You should include a list of five or six skills that are relevant to the position you’re applying for and describe how they will help you excel in this role.

Your resume is a summary of your career, skills, and accomplishments as far as your career is concerned. It’s also a contact card and an opportunity to showcase your personality and uniqueness. As such, what you include in your resume matters. Let’s discuss the most popular sections for a resume. 

Contact Information

One critical section in your resume is the “contact information”. Your contact information should include:

  • Your name, preferably the first and last name 
  • Address/ Location 
  • Phone number 
  • Your professional title, if any
  • LinkedIn URL- This directs the recruiter to your LinkedIn profile, where you share detailed information about your accomplishments and responsibilities. 
  • Social media handles, especially if you have a published portfolio. This could be Medium if you are a writer, Behance if you are a designer, or Github for developers. 

You do not need to include a headshot to show the recruiter your appearance. Also, avoid using unprofessional emails.

Recruiters and employers spend an average of 6 seconds scanning your resume. Therefore, you have exactly 6 seconds to capture the recruiter’s attention and impress them with this resume section. This means that no matter how many “how to write a CV” searches you do, you’re wasting precious time if your summary does not tick the right boxes. 

The resume summary is 2-3 sentences long and lists your strengths, accomplishments, responsibilities, and desired goals for working for the company. However, you should avoid resume summaries if you’re a recent graduate with no job experience.

Tips for writing a resume summary:

  • Describe yourself: A “hardworking”, “motivated”, “fast-paced” etc. employee 
  • Your job expeirnce: A certified developer with two years of experience
  • Achievements: Specialized in software development, UX, and customer care 
  • Desired Goal: Looking for an opportunity to work as the lead designer and leverage my experience in managing design teams 

Work Experience 

Your work experience is an opportunity to list your accomplishments, responsibities, and roles. You can list your work experience as follows:

  • Job title: For each job entry, state your work title as the first part. 
  • Company name: State the name of the company and the location where you worked in a specific role.
  • Achievement/ responsibility: Either list your achievements or responsibilities in the role. Be as detailed as possible. For example, “Created a new keyword and title template for organic inbound marketing and boosted blog engagement by 20% within 3 months”. 
  • Employment dates.

When you explain your experience, be detailed instead of listing the general responsibilities in your role. You want the recruiter to know what you accomplished and distinguish yourself from the crowd. You can also state your proficiency level based on the NIH Proficiency Scale . 

Remember to tailor your resume to the role. 

When you submit your resume to a job board, an Applicant Tracking System filters the resumes before any recruiter sees them. The ATS (for resume) is software that helps recruiters filter through hundreds of resumes submitted to job boards. 

You should tailor each resume to the job you’re applying for to cross the first filtration process. You can do this by including the right keywords in your resume. Peruse the job description, note the crucial education, skill, and experience requirements, and mirror them in your resume. 

For example, if the job description asks for more than five years of experience in software development, your resume should state, “5+ years of experience in software development”. 

If the job description is looking for a digital marketer with social media experience, campaign management, and organic marketing, list these keywords in your accomplishments or skills. 

The work experience you list depends on your current situation. For example, for job hunters with no experience, it’s better to focus on other sections. However, it’s better for CEOs with decades of experience to list the five most recent roles relevant to the job you’re applying for and ignore your first experience as a cashier. 

List your education in reverse chronological order. For example, an education entry may appear as follows. 

  • Program Name: Bachelor’s Degree in Education 
  • Name of Institution: Warren State College
  • Years of Attendance: 2000-2014 
  • (Optional) Honors:Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude
  • (Optional) Academic achievements: Papers you’ve written and have been published
  • (Optional) GPA: 3.5 

The education section is vital if you have no work experience. Always start with the latest education achievement, and generally, avoid mentioning your high school education if you have a university education. Lastly, only mention optional features if they help you stand out and are impressive.  

The skills section is a must-have in any resume. You can list hard, measurable skills . Examples of hard skills are coding in Python and JavaScript or knowing how to make a latte.

You should also mention transferrable soft skills such as excellent communication, team management, critical thinking, and social skills.   • Volunteering Experience: Volunteering experience showcases your philanthropy, loyalty, devotion, and values. 
  • Certification and Awards: Have you received certificates and awards for participating in competitions and events? List them. 
  • Projects and publications: If you have personal projects relevant to your job and publications worth showcasing, you can list them and link to their respective sites.

Start by adding some personality.

If you’re struggling to get your resume noticed, it’s time to add some soul into it. Don’t treat it like a document with laundry list of your responsibilities and successes. Rather, work on converting it into a document that conveys what truly motivates you as a professional.

  • Start by creating a back-office version of your resume. Write down an unedited list detailing your complete work history, including the jobs you took up to earn additional money or the one you were fired from. Then, reflect on your personal and professional strengths and talents.
  • Use your back-office resume to discern what you want to share on your actual resume. Consider what work has left you with strong negative or positive emotions. Both feel-good emotions and difficult emotions can help you describe your accomplishments in a nuanced way and identify what you want in your next role.
  • Now use the back-office resume to rework what you want to showcase. Instead of saying, “Secured a grant funding of $500,000 for youth programming,” say, “Critical thinking and exceptional writing abilities allowed me to secure $500,000 in grant funding for an innovative youth program that helped them develop their leadership skills by writing an online magazine alternative to Teen Vogue .”
  • You can take your resume to the next level by adding some creative sections that reflect the uniqueness of what you bring. Consider an international work and living section or one that showcases your artistic practice.

Resumes have come a long way, from a laundry list of job responsibilities to documents that speak to the qualitative and quantitative impact you’ve had at work. But they’re still mostly devoid of emotion and don’t convey what truly motivates you as a professional.

14 Tips for Writing a Stellar Product Manager Resume

When you’re applying for a product manager role, a standout resume will only get you so far.

“It’s the first part of the conversation,” said Adam Naor, the founder of Work From Home Adviser and a former hiring manager for Indeed. “It’s like a blind date. Once you get there, you either have chemistry or you don’t.”

Still, if you play your hand right, it can get you an interview . Adam Nathan, the cofounder of the document editor Almanac, who reviewed thousands of resumes in previous roles at Lyft, Apple and Varo, said the mark of a good product manager resume is its ability to demonstrate results.

“Ultimately, product managers have to take the company’s vision and strategy, and then build features that produce results around key metrics. So looking for people who can produce results is the most important thing to me,” Nathan said.

There are other competencies worth playing up, of course, including judgment, prioritization, cross-functional collaboration and experience with A/B testing and user research. Paying close attention to the language of the job description is also a must, said Mona Agarwal, a senior product manager at the online money exchange Remitly, who spent several years reviewing resumes as a people manager at Amazon.

“ When I was a hiring manager, there was often a specific gap that I was trying to fill,  ”  she said. “ And you can get a sense of what that gap is by reading the job description. So I recommend that anyone applying customize according to that.”

We spoke with product leaders and hiring managers  for tips on crafting a product manager resume that will set you apart.

Mimic the Job Description 

The most important part of resume writing is to make sure your resume gets read.

Applicant tracking system screeners, such as Oracle’s Taleo, compare the overlap of keywords in a job description against those in a candidate’s resume. “That’s why it’s really important to tailor your resume to the verbiage in the job description,” said Marie Buharin, founder of the career development site Modernesse.

Screeners are used by companies of all sizes to filter candidates from large applicant pools, and in a competitive job market, they are a common first step in the selection process. Modernesse typically sees 300 resumes for a posting weekly. Of those, about seven to 10 candidates pass through to the hiring manager for interview consideration, and one or two are selected for a phone screener interview.

“Looking for people who can produce results is the most important thing to me.”

These screeners are not as arbitrary as they might seem. Job descriptions are often generated by hiring managers and passed along to HR departments or recruiters who use ATS screeners to identity candidates who possess desired skills.

Mimicking keywords is important, but customizing a resume goes beyond parroting, Agarwal said. It involves strategic editing.

“Say I’m looking to fill a gap for somebody who has the ability to write. I would love to see that a candidate wrote a proposal for their vision,” Agarwal said. “That helps me recognize, ‘Oh, this person would be a great addition to our team.”

Calling out the proposal might mean cutting a bullet point emphasizing data analysis. The same type of customization also works in reverse. In service of the job description, it’s best to kill your darlings.

Lead With Results

Several experts told me the first thing they look for when reviewing resumes is an orientation around results. Often, the last company where an applicant worked, even what they were responsible for there, is less important than the metrics.

“So what not to do is, say, ‘Supervised front-end experience for Uber, from 2013 to 2015,’” Nathan said. “That doesn’t really tell me much about what kind of results you produced. Much better, is: ‘Grew rides 37 percent, through three key features.’”

Having quantifiable data that supports your claims lends credibility to the resume and signals an understanding of the work’s impact on higher-level business objectives, wrote Nicholas Stanford, a product manager at Grammarly. Foregrounding these numbers at the top of each section can catch the eye of a reviewer poring over hundreds of resumes.

“And remember to use percentages in addition to numbers — percentages underscore impact better than absolute numbers, especially if applying to a job at a larger company,” Stanford wrote. “For example, ‘Grew active users by 50 percent’ instead of ‘grew active users by 100,000.’”

Buharin is preferential to applicants who showcase at least one big project, say, the concept design for a product launch, in three or four bullet points.

Agarwal is drawn to candidates who present results as part of a progression of ideas. Can the candidate envision a product concept? Can they execute on that vision in a successful launch? What is the quantitative result? “How many people were impacted? How much did revenue increase? How much cost savings was there?” she asked.

Don’t Waste Space on an Objective Statement. Use an Executive Summary.

Although they are commonly used, top-line objective statements are mostly distractions. “I think that’s a very outdated thing in terms of what you’re trying to convey,” Buharin said.

Instead, she recommends an an executive summary that serves as a snapshot of your relevant experience for the position.  For example: “I’ve launched 10 products over the past six years, generated X amount of revenue, ran marketing campaigns that were valued at X number of dollars,” Buharin said.

Titles and keywords are important to a resume's chance of success.

Get the Title Right

Being explicit in the use of the term “product manager,” or whichever product role you’re applying for, is the best way to ensure fair consideration, Nathan said.

Titles like product manager, product strategist, product designer, product marketer, user researcher or product researcher are often used interchangeably, but they reflect distinct roles and skill sets.

More elevated roles like senior product manager or director of product management are virtually unattainable without prior experience as a product manager. And even product manager roles can be difficult to enter without the title or adjacent experience on your resume.

“If you want to be a product manager,” Nathan said, “the best thing to do is to join a company in an adjacent role, like biz ops, or research, or product marketing — something that kind of sits next to the product team and has direct contact — and then find your way, laterally, into that role in a company.”

Use Pattern Matching

When we spoke, Naor had spent the past week reviewing 78 resumes for an open product manager position at Work From Home Adviser. The candidates whose resumes caught his attention exhibited what he calls pattern matching — showing how past experiences directly apply to a business and its aspirations.

“ Work From Home Adviser  needs front-end; it needs conversion metrics,” he said. “ So on their resumes, they called out skills aligned to the kind of business I’m hiring for. ”

Pattern matching also saves interviewees time by setting the stage for the conversation likely to transpire during the interview.

“Because I can say, OK, you’ve worked on scaling a new product at company X,” Naor said. “ Now, I don’t have to look at the resume anymore. Tell me about that experience. What did you do? What did you learn? What results did you drive? How did you show bias toward action? How did you have backbone and disagree when the data was unclear as to what to do? That’s what I’m really curious about, not ‘Where did you go to school?’”

Embed URLs to Relevant Work

Providing links to relevant projects is another way candidates differentiated themselves, Naor said. Whether their backgrounds were in consumer finance or direct-to-consumer software made little difference to him.

“What I cared about was that they gave me very relevant examples with a URL to say, ‘This was the kind of business where I was a PM.’ Beautiful. ‘Here were the challenges we faced.’ ‘This is how I accelerated the product development lifecycle. I can do that for your company,’” Naor said.

Screener questions may be read before your resume. Take them seriously.

Don’t Rush Screener Questions

As part of the application guidelines, Work From Home Adviser required candidates to answer a screener question providing feedback on a website. Those who didn’t respond, or did so flippantly, didn’t get interviews.

“On the flip side, there were people who wrote really insightful, interesting things,” Naor said. “And it showed an attention to detail. It showed a willingness to dive deep; it showed a bias toward action. Those were incredibly attractive attributes for me to see. And I started with those resumes.”

Experience With SQL and Jira Is a Plus. But Don’t Get Carried Away.

Agarwal said experience with commonly used software tools such as Jira, research methods like usability testing and A/B testing, and coding languages is a plus. Proficiency with the domain-specific programming language SQL is especially attractive, particularly among small startups.

“Strong product managers have to make a lot of tough decisions grounded in data, and a lot of times, that data is not readily available,” Agarwal said. “So you have to pull it yourself or get an analyst to pull it for you. A product manager who can do that, to me, has an advantage.”

While software expertise can give you a leg up, it’s important not to get carried away.

“I don’t like skill sections,” Nathan told me bluntly. “I think those are silly, because I believe that you can train someone to do anything. So when people give four lines to say, ‘I’m proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Gmail,’ that’s a turn off. I wouldn’t list general productivity tools.”

Emphasize Cross-Functional Collaboration

Though it can be hard to validate on a resume, showing that you’ve worked with different teams across the company to build momentum for new initiatives is also a good strategy, Nathan said: “‘Reduced user support tickets by 50 percent in collaboration with the customer service team.’ Things like that can be a nice way of showing that you worked cross-functionally to produce results, and that you weren’t an island.”

Personal interests and diverse life experiences can set candidates apart.

Don’t Discount Your Personal Background and Interests

With space at premium, your interest in international travel or pottery may seem a bit superfluous, but don’t dismiss the impact of your hobbies and personal interests.

“At the end of the day,” Nathan said, “we’re all human, and I think it’s good to list some interests that are not related to your job or product management. It humanizes the resume a bit and shows that you’re a real person.”

In a selfish way, he added, it also gives the interviewer something to chew on during the interview — an ice breaker that can establish the parameters for a more lighthearted exchange.

“For me, having a diverse perspective is a bonus, as well,” Agarwal said. “So if you’ve lived in another country, if you come from a minority background, just thinking about the world a little bit differently. To me, that’s a bonus.”

Keep It to 1 Page

While working at Indeed, Naor was privy to internal data showing resumes greater than a page received a lower reply rate than those that fit on a single sheet. Brevity is best — particularly for product managers.

“Much of product management is about allocating a company’s finite resources to help it achieve its strategic goals for a product,” Nathan said. “It’s a position that’s all about clarity, results and making tradeoffs. If your resume doesn’t show those qualities, it doesn’t pass the screen for me.”

Write a Thoughtful Cover Letter

Still, candidates need to find ways to acknowledge their understanding of an organization’s product vision by prioritizing parallel or complementary experiences. A cover letter or one-page experience summary can be a good place to discuss resume items that require additional elaboration, Stanford writes.

“Cover letters not only illuminate what the candidate brings to a company and address any intentional gaps in their resume, but also showcase their writing abilities” Stanford wrote. “Having strong writing skills is essential for product managers, and it sends a message to hiring teams that the candidate is detail-oriented and professional.”

Use Standard Formatting and Fonts

Nathan recommends using a standard resume template that includes education at the top, followed by professional experience and interests. Candidates should place greater weight on their most recent positions and the last three years of their careers. Important information — company names, dates of employment and job titles — can be emphasized with spatial cues and bold font.

Name recognition matters: “It’s unfortunate, but certainly, when you’re looking through hundreds of resumes, you look to see names that are familiar,” he said.

“It’s good to list some interests that are not related to your job or product management. It humanizes the resume a bit and shows that you’re a real person.” 

In general, Nathan’s advice is to avoid getting too creative. No colors. No photographs. No columns. Times New Roman or Arial. Ten-to-12 point font. Standard spacing and margins.

“The point of the resume is to clearly and concisely communicate your credentials for the job. It’s not to show me that you’re good at formatting on Microsoft Word. Anything that distracts from your accomplishments is bad,” he said.

Find an Internal Advocate

Even if all goes right, a resume submitted cold, without an internal champion to push it forward, has little chance of getting read, Buharin said. She recommends using social sites like LinkedIn to connect with individuals within an organization who can advocate on your behalf.

“Say you submitted a resume to Microsoft in Seattle, the finance group. You want to look for people who are working there, and then you want to email them and just say: ‘Hey, I applied for this job, I’d love to talk to you about your experience with Microsoft and learn more about the company. Do you have 30 minutes to talk?’ — something really simple to connect with someone, because building those connections is going to be the easiest way to actually get your resume looked at.”

Job Seekers Rewrite the Resume Rules in 2024

A ccording to recent data from LiveCareer’s Resume Evolution Report , in just five years, the average word count of resumes has surged to 503, close to twice their average length in 2018. Two-page resumes are the new normal.

Job hunting isn't what it was in 2018. To meet the demands of a transforming job market takes new strategies. With economic uncertainties, increasing desire for remote work, technological advancements, and fierce competition, what was once considered standard resume-writing practice is now outdated.

LiveCareer analysts extracted data from 50,000 resumes built by international job seekers with its resume builder between 2018 and 2023.

The results carry profound implications for both candidates and employers alike. The skills job seekers prioritize, and their strategies to showcase their suitability for prospective roles shifted radically in the last five years.

The Rise of the Two-Page Resume

In 2018, resumes averaged around 312 words. By 2023, that number increased by 61%.

“All the uncertainty around the pandemic changed how we present ourselves on paper, and a simple one-pager wasn't cutting it anymore,” says Sarah Miller, a hiring coordinator with a mid-size United States tech company.

“People realized they needed to show off everything they've got, all their skills and experiences, just to stay competitive. So, they started building up their resumes, turning them into these detailed accounts of who they are and what they can do.”

Beyond the Basics

While the fundamental sections of resumes remain unchanged — personal information, education, work history, skills, and a professional summary — applicants increasingly include additional information.

Certificates, languages, and accomplishments sections have roughly doubled in prevalence, putting growing emphasis on specialized training and expertise. Candidates leverage these sections to showcase dedication to learning in-demand skills required by a diverse, global economy.

Soft Skills Take Center Stage

A striking evolution in resume writing is the shift in emphasis from hard to soft skills. While technical proficiencies once dominated the spotlight, job seekers now highlight interpersonal qualities like time management, critical thinking, and active listening .

Increases in leadership, critical thinking, and written communication have put these soft skills in the top five. None made the 2018 list. These qualities likely emerged due to an increased interest in remote work, with job seekers demonstrating their ability to work independently.

The Rise of Coding and IT Skills

In parallel with the increase of soft skills, coding languages have emerged as the new kings of technical skills. The rise of remote work also amplified the need for tech-savvy professionals capable of navigating an increasingly digital-centric workplace.

In 2023, eight of the top 10 hard skills listed on resumes were coding languages. That's a stark contrast to 2018, when IT-specific skills comprised only three of the top 10.

Resilient Skills Amidst Change

Amid these changes, some specific skills have proven resilient. Time management, customer service, verbal communication, self-motivation, and quick learning remain in the top 10 most common resume soft skills. As for hard skills, project management, C, HTML, Java, and Excel remain as pertinent today as they were in 2018.

Increased Hybrid Work

The advent of remote and hybrid work models has left an indelible mark on resume language. In 2018, only 2.4% of resumes included “remote” or “hybrid.” By 2023, this increased to 7%.

“Over the last five years, the employment landscape has changed, and so has the way job seekers write resumes,” explains LiveCareer’s Career Expert Eric Ciechanowski, CPRW. “During the period we studied, we experienced a global pandemic – which took a huge toll on some industries while others thrived – so it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that job seekers have changed their approach to resume writing to meet the changes in the job market.”

While some see remote work as a luxury, some see effective remote working as a skill. Highlighting experiences and competencies gained from gig jobs and other online endeavors allows job seekers to incorporate remote work on resumes when they lack experience otherwise.

“Resumes aren’t exclusive to traditional jobs anymore,” Miller adds. “Including gig work and side hustles isn’t just a nice addition – they show how adaptable and resourceful you are and that you can work on your own.”

Job Title Progression

The most common job titles have also significantly changed, mirroring which industries are growing or declining. While traditional roles like server and administrative assistant have waned in prevalence, newcomers like project manager, recruiter, and account manager have risen to prominence.

However, financial analysts, customer service representatives, accountants, and teachers appear in the top 10 job titles in 2018 and 2023.

Navigating the New Normal for Resumes

The world has changed since 2018, and so have resumes. Job seekers must remain aware of these emerging trends and employers' expectations to succeed in a competitive and ever-evolving job market.

Despite the rise of the two-page resume to the prioritization of soft skills, one thing remains the same. To get an interview, job seekers must create resumes that stand out in a crowded field and showcase their unique value to prospective employers.

Shortly after midnight on June 13, 1994, Sydney and Justin Simpson, the children of Nicole Brown Simpson and ex-football great O.J. Simpson, were sound asleep in their Brentwood condominium when their mother was found brutally stabbed to death at the base of the front steps outside their home.

In the ensuing years, Sydney and Justin first lived with their mother’s family, while their father was tried and then acquitted in the murder of their mother and their mother’s friend, Ron Goldman. Following an emotional custody battle in 1996, Sydney and Justin returned to live with their disgraced father, first at his mansion near their old home in Brentwood and then in Florida.

Almost 30 years later, Sydney and Justin Simpson returned once again to be with their father in the final days before his death on Wednesday in Las Vegas, TMZ reported . The once popular NFL running back, actor, pitchman and sports commentator died at age 76 of cancer.

Not much is known about Sydney and Justin’s relationship with their father after he became one of the most polarizing — even reviled — men in America. While a Los Angeles jury found Simpson not guilty of killing their mother, he was found liable for her death and the death of Ron Goldman in a 1997 civil trial.

But last Friday, Sydney and Justin received word that their father was dying, TMZ reported. They and other members of Simpson’s inner circle, including their older half siblings, Arnelle and Jason Simpson, rushed to be by his side.

It turns out that everyone who visited Simpson before his death was expected to sign non-disclosure agreements, including his children as well as medical personnel who provided hospice care to the dying man, TMZ reported. In all, somewhere between 30 to 50 people saw Simpson before he died and all signed NDAs, TMZ said.

Over the years, there have been occasional reports that speculate on Simpson’s relationship with Sydney and Justin. One of the most heartbreaking moments reported about Nicole Brown Simpson’s murder had to do with her children. They had been taken early that morning to a police station, where they waited for someone to come pick them up.

Sydney asked to make a phone call, but dialed her home number and left a message: “Mommy, please call me back. I want to know what happened last night. Why did we have to go to the police station? Please answer, Mommy. Please answer, Mommy. Please answer, Mommy.”

When Simpson was on trial for their mother’s death, Sydney and Justin lived with their maternal grandparents, Lou and Judith Brown, who had temporary custody. When a newly acquitted Simpson sought to regain custody, the Browns fought back in court, with their attorneys focused on allegations of domestic abuse involving Simpson and the children’s mother, the Los Angeles Times reported in 1996 .

When an Orange County Superior Court judge ruled in Simpson’s favor, she wrote in her opinion that the attorneys for the Browns had “failed to demonstrate clear and convincing evidence” that giving custody to their father would be harmful to the children, the Los Angeles Times reported. The judge also described the children’s affection for their father, writing that one of the children had stated a desire to live with Simpson.

The children initially returned to live with their father at his Brentwood estate, about two miles from where their mother was killed. Detective Mark Fuhrman had famously found the blood-stained, right-handed glove on the property, which gave the LAPD evidence to seek a search warrant.

In 2000, Simpson and his children decamped to Florida, where he bought a home in a gated community south of Miami and tried to settle into a quiet life, playing golf and living on pensions from the N.F.L., the Screen Actors Guild and other sources, about $400,000 a year, the New York Times reported. He also had been ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages from the civil trial, but Florida laws protected his home and pension income from seizure to satisfy court judgments, the New York Times also said.

In 2007, Simpson was arrested on robbery and kidnapping charges, stemming from an incident in a Las Vegas hotel room, where he said he was trying to reclaim some of his property from sports memorabilia dealers. In 2008, a jury found him guilty of multiple charges, and he was sentenced to a minimum of nine years in prison.

Before Simpson was to be released on parole in October 2017, it was reported that he hoped to resume his life in Florida and reconnect with his four children. But a report by Page Six, citing a new book by Tom Scotto, Simpson’s self-described friend and spokesman, said that Simpson only got along well with Arnelle, who gave a tearful testimony at his parole hearing. Simpson reportedly was estranged from Jason, Sydney and Justin, according to the book.

“O.J.’s kids don’t want him close to them. Only Arnelle will talk to him,” said a publicist for Scotto.

But Simpson’s attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, denied any estrangement between Simpson and his three younger children. He told Page Six, “They are in constant communication.”

Another 2017 Page Six report offered a different portrait of Simpson’s relationship with his kids at the time. It said that they liked him well enough that they bought a house in St. Petersburg, Florida, for him to live in when he was paroled. Sydney and Justin reportedly lived in the Tampa Bay-St. Petersburg area, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Earlier in 2017, the New York Post also reported that Sydney and Justin Simpson had built “a mini-real estate empire” in the St. Petersburg area, buying up 13 homes and apartments in low-income areas since 2015. All but two appeared to have been bought with cash, which raised questions about whether the property was purchased with money from their father, the New York Post said. On Friday, an attorney for Ron Goldman’s family said he still owned them more than $100 million to them after he was found liable in the 1997 wrongful death lawsuit.

In the end, Simpson didn’t return to Florida. Pam Bondi, Florida’s Attorney General at the time, didn’t want him there, saying that he would burden law enforcement officials and could pose a risk to civilians, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. 

So, Simpson apparently stayed in Las Vegas, initially moving in with a friend who had a home in a gated community, the Las Vegas Review Journal said. As of 2023, the New York Post reported, Simpson was living in a golf course community of Canyon Gate Country Club in Las Vegas.
