In this chapter, you begin to take the first steps in the world of data analysis, learning in detail about all the concepts and processes that make up this discipline. The concepts discussed in this chapter are helpful background for the following chapters, where these concepts and procedures will be applied in the form of Python code, through the use of several libraries that will be discussed in just as many chapters.

(vi) Research involves gathering new data from primary or first-hand sources or using existing data for a new purpose. (vii) Research is characterized by carefully designed procedures that apply rigorous analysis. (viii) Research involves the quest for answers to un-solved problems.
Data analysis is the central step in qualitative research. Whatever the data are, it is their analysis that, in a decisive way, forms the outcomes of the research. Sometimes, data collection is limited to recording and docu-menting naturally occurring phenomena, for example by recording interactions. Then qualitative research is concentrated on ...

Most readers will be familiar with the fundamentals of statistical data analysis, so this is primarily intended as a repetition of important aspects of quantitative data analysis. This chapter comprises six sections: Section 1.1 elaborates on the objectives of this book and summarizes the ...
Statistical methods involved in carrying out a study include planning, designing, collecting data, analysing, drawing meaningful interpretation and reporting of the research findings. The statistical analysis gives meaning to the meaningless numbers, thereby breathing life into a lifeless data. The results and inferences are precise only if ...
Data Management, Analysis Tools, and Analysis Mechanics This chapter explores different tools and techniques for handling data for research purposes. This chapter assumes that a research problem statement has been formulated, research hypotheses have been stated, data collection planning has been conducted, and data have been collected from various

A good data analyst must be able to move and act in many different disciplinary areas. Many of these disciplines are the basis of the methods of data analysis, and

In this section, we discuss the main types of data analysis methods in brief. For this purpose, the data analysis can be categorized into the following six main methods (Taherdoost, 2021): Descriptive Exploratory Inferential Predictive Explanatory or Causal Mechanistic.
in Section V of the Handbook we examine data analysis using examples of data from each of the Head Start content areas. We explore examples of how data analysis could be done. We identify and describe trends in data that programs collect. Finally, we offer a perspective of how data lends itself to different levels of analysis: for example, grantee-
research data. That is, they decide what methods of data collection (i.e., tests, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, observations, constructed, secondary, and existing data) they will phys-ically use to obtain the research data. As you read this chapter, keep in mind the fundamental principle of mixed research originally defined in ...
For many researchers unfamiliar with qualitative research, determining how to conduct qualitative analyses is often quite challenging. Part of this challenge is due to the seemingly limitless approaches that a qualitative researcher might leverage, as well as simply learning to think like a qualitative researcher when analyzing data.
