Executive MS in Finance (EMSF) Program Degree Requirements

The Executive MS in Finance (EMSF) is designed for experienced professionals who are seeking specialized knowledge and training in finance to become leaders in their field. It is an accelerated, cohort-based, 30-credit program with a modular structure and includes the following features:

The program is particularly designed to be applications-oriented to enable executives to take classroom learning to the workplace.

The cohort format enables students to learn from and challenge each other, share perspectives, build lasting relationships, and develop critical workplace skills.

The program employs a variety of instructional modalities including in-class discussions, hands-on projects, case work, and role-playing that enrich the learning experience.

The foundational courses help students master fundamental financial concepts and become more effective at articulating them to key stakeholders.

The advanced and specialized courses equip executives with the latest financial strategies and techniques to respond to fast-moving financial developments.

The program includes a unique international business consulting practicum where students participate in team-based, real-life projects in a global context, which significantly enhance leadership and decision-making skills.

The Executive MS in Finance program leads to a Master of Science degree. The program can also serve as a steppingstone for those interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in finance or a related field.

Admission Requirements

Five or more years of professional/managerial experience. Generally, this experience should be post-undergraduate.

An undergraduate degree from an accredited university or foreign equivalent.

Appropriate quantitative skills acquired via academic training or professional experience. These skills may also be demonstrated through a satisfactory score on the Executive Assessment (EA), the GMAT, or the GRE.

EMSF Curriculum

The program has a total of 30 credits.

Degree Requirements

Students must earn 30 credits for the degree, maintain a cumulative 3.00 grade point average (GPA), and satisfy all Baruch College, Zicklin School of Business, and Executive Programs policies, rules, and regulations.

A student whose GPA falls below 3.00 after taking 9 or more credits in the program will be on academic probation.  He or she must comply with all Baruch College requirements of probation status to continue in the program.  Please refer to the current Baruch College Graduate Bulletin , discussion of General Academic Regulations, for information on these requirements.

Because this is a cohort program, all students take the same courses together and in the same order. Many of the later courses in the program have one of the core courses as prerequisites. Any student who enters probation status may thus not be able to complete the EMSF program within the period of ten to eleven months.

Students in this cohort program will be registered for 9 or more credits each semester.

Baruch College and the Deloitte Foundation to Fund Scholarships for Students Pursuing a Fifth-Year Master’s Program in Accounting

December 3, 2021

New York, NY, December 3, 2021 —The Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College is proud to collaborate with the Deloitte Foundation to support diverse talent entering the accounting profession through the Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholars Program (DFASP). Over the next year, as part of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the DFASP and the Zicklin School of Business will fund scholarships for five Zicklin students pursuing a fifth-year master’s program in accounting.

The DFASP is a critical tenet of Deloitte’s Making Accounting Diverse and Equitable (MADE), a $75 million commitment to generate more opportunities and leadership pathways for the next generation of certified public accountants (CPAs). MADE aims to transform the future of the accounting profession, combining both financial support and resources to help address the identified barriers faced by racially and ethnically diverse students, and support them as they chart their pathway from high school to business professional to leadership in the profession.

“Our Deloitte Foundation is laser focused on driving education initiatives that help prepare the next generation of diverse business leaders,” said Erin Scanlon , Deloitte Foundation president. “We are proud to fund the Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholars Program as an important step in strengthening the pipeline of next generation CPA talent.”

“We are excited to collaborate with the Deloitte Foundation as part of our initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said H. Fenwick Huss, Willem Kooyker Dean of the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College. “These scholarships can give diverse participants the opportunity to learn from Zicklin’s renowned faculty who are thought leaders, researchers, and industry practitioners in New York City, a vibrant center for accounting and finance markets.”

Selected applicants must matriculate in the Zicklin School’s MS Accountancy program for the fall 2022 semester and complete the program by August 2023. Consistent with Baruch College’s goal of enrolling a racially and ethnically diverse student population, the Zicklin School strongly encourages applications from underrepresented demographic groups.

For consideration, please submit an application for admission no later than March 1, 2022. If any questions, please reach out to the Zicklin Graduate Admission Office. Email [email protected] .

NV obtains new photos and videos of the elimination of traitorous ex-MP Ilya Kyva near Moscow

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Photos and videos of the elimination of pro-Russian ex-MP Ilya Kyva in a Moscow suburb were obtained by NV from sources in Ukraine’s SBU Security Service on Dec. 11.

This special operation was meticulously planned and successfully executed, the SBU informant confirmed.

In one imgae, Kyva's lifeless body can be seen in the snow surrounded by bloodstains. The location where “deserved punishment awaited the traitor” is near the place that Kyva filmed many anti-Ukrainian videos, sources say.

Kyva was a high-priority target, SBU said. His daily routines, movements, and habits were extensively studied in the operation. Despite strong security, the SBU managed to eliminate him just outside Moscow.

“This [Kyva’s elimination] serves as a signal to all traitors and military criminals who have sided with the enemy. Remember: Russia will not protect you. Death is the only prospect awaiting enemies of Ukraine,” SBU Chief Vasyl Malyuk said.

Ukraine’s SBU eliminated Kyva in a special operation in Moscow Oblast on Dec. 6, said NV sources in the intelligence service.

Kyva's “bloodied body”, discovered with a shot through the head, was found in the park of an elite club hotel in the Moscow region on Dec.6, Russian propaganda Telegram channels reported.

Kyva was shot with an unidentified firearm and died from the injuries on the scene, the Russian Investigative Committee claimed.

Kyva had fled to Spain ahead of Russia’s full-scale invasion. He then appeared in Russian propaganda broadcasts in Moscow, actively spreading lies about Ukraine. Kyva also sought “political asylum” and citizenship from the enemy aggressor.

The Ukrainian parliament stripped Kyva of his MP status in March 2022, charging him with treason. He was additionally charged with publicly calling for a violent change in the constitutional order and propaganda on behalf of the aggressor state in Aug. 2023.

Graduate Stephanie Florez Pursues Her Real Estate Passions in New York City

  • Home  /  News  /  2024  /  April  /  Stephanie Florez

Posted on April 29, 2024 by Wendy Frost

May 2024 graduate Stephanie Florez

“Business is the backbone of the economy,” said Florez, a Bold Promise scholar from San Antonio. “It can be applied to any field.”

Taking advantage of the many career resources available to UTSA students, she applied for internships her first year at UTSA utilizing Handshake, UTSA’s job platform.  She credits the university’s Career Center, the college’s Student Success Center and the Najim Center for Innovation and Career Advancement with helping her prepare.

“UTSA is the place to be with all the resources,” she said. “Everyone is welcoming, and they want to help you succeed. As big as UTSA is you still can receive one-on-one support.”

She first participated in a virtual internship with Project Destined, an organization that provides students with training in real estate, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.  Florez took part in an eight-week program that focused on commercial real estate.  She returned to work with them the following year as a program manager, leading a team of interns.

“That experience really helped prepare me for my future positions,” said Florez. “I liked real estate because I could go behind the scenes and see how things work.”

She then landed a coveted role as a commercial real estate summer analyst with JPMorgan Chase and Co. in Los Angeles her first summer at UTSA. “It was a really great experience, and it helped me gain perspective on the real estate industry.”

Florez also joined the Najim Center’s Strategist Program, an experiential learning program that provides students with real-world business experiences. “I valued the opportunity to be able to give back to my community by working on these projects,” she said.

Last summer she completed an investment banking analyst internship with Wells Fargo in New York City. As a part of the real estate securitization and capital markets team, she worked on two projects that included pitching an investment retail suite based in Buda, TX and developing a 30-page FICC memo.

“What makes real estate so unique is that it gives opportunities to so many different types of people as well as connects people together,” she said.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Florez was active with several organizations at UTSA. She was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the Investment Society, the Professional Businesswoman Society and helped relaunch the college’s chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals for America.

Building her network early on, she also participated in two business immersions to San Francisco and Washington, D.C. as well as numerous site visits and roundtables through the Embrey Real Estate Finance and Development program.

“UTSA does a good job of including commuter students,” she said. “I had so many opportunities to connect with my peers as well as with leaders in the real estate industry, like Walter Embrey.”

Capping off her senior year, she was selected as an inaugural member of the Alvarez Ambassadors, a group of student leaders who cultivate a sense of community within the college, promote resources to fellow students and engage with prospective students.

“I love the diversity and perspective that I’ve gained at UTSA,” she said. “And, I value being surrounded with like-minded students who are just as driven as me.”

Meeting her best friend her first year at UTSA, she has enjoyed amazing experiences expanding her global perspectives by traveling with friends within the United States as well as internationally to Brazil, Japan, Indonesia and Jordan. “One of the best things about UTSA is the relationships that I have developed.”

Although she’ll leave soon for New York, Florez will always consider San Antonio home.  “I hope people remember me not for the things that I’ve done, but how I’ve made people feel. This community has established my identity, and I’ll never forget that.”

This major prepares students for professional positions with financial institutions, including commercial, investment, and savings banks; brokerage firms; insurance companies; investment advisory services; and finance companies. Students will also be well prepared to enter the finance departments of non-financial corporations, nonprofit institutions, and governmental agencies.

An internship training program is available to qualified day seniors majoring in finance and investments, with 3 credits a semester for 20 weekly hours of work and for no more than two semesters. These credits cannot be counted toward the credits needed for the major.

Students who are planning on future graduate study in finance or business are strongly recommended to include advanced courses in mathematics, statistics, and econometrics in their undergraduate programs.

All finance courses have FIN 3000 Principles of Finance as a prerequisite. FIN 3000 is required of all BBA students.

Students majoring in finance take three required courses and five elective courses. In addition, a student must earn a 2.0 (C) average or higher in the major courses to graduate.
