As prepared as I was to hate "Dark Johnny" (since it was a follow-up to "JX5", one of my least favorite episodes), I found it silly and entertaining. It was funny to see how Dark Vegan is unable to hold down a job due to his supervillain tendencies, and any opportunity to see Jillian again is welcome for me. Also, this is minor, but I appreciated how the writers remembered that Dark Vegan has a wife and Jillian has a mother; given how TV moms typically get the short end of the stick in fiction, I figured after her non-appearance in "Join the Johnny Scouts"" the writers must've Chuck Cunningham'ed her ( Happy Days reference), but thankfully Mrs. Vegan appeared again and she even had lines. At the end, I shared Johnny's outrage when after all they went through to get Vegan and his family home, he comes back because he can't have toast on his home planet. What the what?? I was suddenly reminded of Lex Luthor's speech to Gorilla Grodd at the end of "Dead Reckoning", when it turned that Grodd's "master plan" was to turn all of humanity into apes. As for "No Homework for Johnny", it was OK. It was nice to see the Tests involved in a group activity as a family, since that doesn't seem to happen too often, and I also enjoyed Lila's attempting to bond with her daughters (which also strangely enough doesn't happen much on the show), and Dukey's Rube Goldberg's devices to torment the neighbor's cats. For some reason the Homework Buddy robot reminded me of H.A.R.M. from Wild C.A.T.s .

I was happy that they continued on the episode from JX5 (one of my favorite episodes). It was funny about Dark Vegan's love for toast, he sure does love it. And I was surprised he came back to stay because he wanted more toast. And in No Homework for Johnny, I liked how the whole Test family was finally together doing something other than having a vacation. And the sisters made a very dangerous robot (because of the battery) and Johnny goes ahead being his own self with whatever he wants.

Johnny Test Season 4 Episode 108

Ep 108. No Homework Johnny

  • October 15, 2011

No homework Johnny is the 108th episode from the fourth season of the popular TV series Johnny Test. It centers around Johnny Test, a young boy who loves to experiment and try out new things with his genetically modified talking dog, Dukey.

In this episode, Johnny's school announces that there will be no more homework for students. Johnny is initially ecstatic about the news and decides to spend his newfound free time playing video games, hanging out with his friends, and pulling pranks on his sisters' experiments.

However, things start to take a turn when Johnny realizes that the no-homework policy is not as great as it seems. With no homework, the teachers in his school begin to assign lengthy assignments during class time that require students to work on them without any additional time during the day. Johnny starts to struggle to keep up with the workload, and his grades start to slip.

Feeling overwhelmed, Johnny turns to his sisters, Mary and Susan Test, for help. They agree to help Johnny with his assignments on the condition that he helps them with their experiments. Although Johnny initially agrees, he quickly regrets his decision when he finds himself knee-deep in his sisters' latest invention - a shrink ray.

As Johnny struggles to keep everything under control, his arch-rival Eugene takes advantage of Johnny's stress levels and starts to make fun of him. However, with determination and hard work, Johnny manages to get all his assignments done and even helps his sisters with their experiment.

In the end, Johnny learns that homework may be a chore, but it's also essential for academic success. The no-homework policy may have seemed like a good idea at first, but it ultimately led to added pressure and stress for both students and teachers.

Overall, No homework Johnny is an entertaining and educational episode that teaches kids the value of hard work and the importance of homework. It's a must-watch for Johnny Test fans and anyone who loves a good lesson wrapped up in a fun and exciting adventure.

Ripley review: Andrew Scott is the diabolical conman Tom Ripley in this arthouse adaptation

Tom sits in the backseat of a car and looks up in concern, his hand near his face.

In high school I struggled to cut my writing homework for English literature down and would routinely hand in essays that were hundreds of words over the limit.

I argued that my teacher should be happy I was giving them more than they asked for.

His response went a little like: "Not when everyone else has managed to get out what they wanted to say, using fewer words and taking less of my time."

This is Ripley's problem. Its director, writer and producer, Steve Zaillian, would have you watch 7.8 hours worth of television to tell a version of a story that Anthony Minghella (most notable of the six Ripley adaptations) managed to tell 25 years ago with a two-hour movie.

Andrew Scott (Fleabag, All of Us Strangers ) leads this iteration as Tom Ripley, a duplicitous con man who we first meet masquerading as a debt collector and barely scraping by in 60s New York.

As in previous versions of the story, Tom needs little convincing when a wealthy man wants to pay him to travel to Italy and convince his rich and spoiled dilettante son Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn) to return to the US.

Tom is instantly enamoured by Dickie's life: He lazily adds haphazard brushstrokes to mediocre paintings and relaxes on his Amalfi coast-moored boat with his girlfriend Marge Sherwood (Dakota Fanning), who is trying and failing to write an Eat, Pray, Love-style book. Which is to say, "they do nothing".

Tom's desperation to cling to the life his proximity to Dickie affords him results in murder, deceit and fraud. (Yes, the parallels to the recent  Saltburn  are striking.)

In the age of streaming, Ripley is by no means the first adaptation with a blown-out run time. But the decisions from other directors to tell familiar stories over the course of several episodes instead of in a single film (most recently Mr and Mrs Smith ) have been justified by their additions to source material.

Ripley, however, subtracts key elements from the classic movie starring Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow. And it confines itself to telling the story of only the first of the five Patricia Highsmith novels that comprise the Ripley series. (Perhaps because Zaillian doesn't plan for this limited series to remain limited? Not that we have any indication of this, beyond the fact the show was named after the series as opposed to its first book, The Talented Mr Ripley.)

The reason Ripley is so long despite its comparatively thin narrative is because it leans painstakingly into the conventions of the psychological thriller genre, drawing out the minutiae of Tom's every movement and experience — partly to create an intoxicating visual world, but mostly to foster a sense of unease.

In this way, something that would seem simple and mundane in another context, like the sound of an elevator ascending, becomes anxiety-inducing.

It's incredibly effective at building glorious tension. But, over so many episodes, it's also exhausting.

Marge, left, looks to Dickie, right, as she holds a martini glass in her hand and they stand on a balcony overlooking the sea

As is Zaillian's decision to tell this story in black and white. Don't bother waiting for a mid-way transition to colour à la Poor Things — it isn't coming.

"The edition of the Ripley book I had on my desk had an evocative black and white photograph on the cover," Zaillian said of his decision in Vanity Fair last year. "As I was writing, I held that image in my mind. Black and white fits this story — and it's gorgeous."

There are moments when Zaillian's decision feels so fitting. For one, it lends a beady quality to Scott's eyes, which helps emphasise that this version of Tom is less morally grey. He's older (Scott is 47), beaten down from a life of poverty, visibly slimy and set in his scheming ways. (Yet somehow still attractive, because Scott is out here giving Hot Priest in everything he does.)

And in Zaillian's monochrome world, the use of light can be equal-parts transfixing and anxiety-inducing — whether it's dancing on the fur of a watchful cat or flashing across the eyes of a suspicious taxi driver.

But, despite this aesthetic appeal, there are more moments when the decision to go full black-and-white is irritating.

And part of what makes both Highsmith's original story and the 1999 film so psychologically thrilling is that they play out in the decadently beautiful dreamscape that is the Amalfi coast in the 60s. In those tellings, the incongruence of the dark events that take place within the vibrant setting were key. But, in Ripley, things start off dark and stay dark.

Tom, right, stands on a balcony and looks to Dickie, left, who is seen from behind on what appears to be a bright day.

Colour is lacking in more than just the literal sense, too. While Fanning is perfectly suspicious as Marge, and Flynn makes for a brilliant choice as the charismatic Dickie, there's something missing in the chemistry of their relationship. Tom and Dickie's friendship doesn't feel genuine, either — Flynn isn't carefree enough and Scott isn't youthfully exuberant enough for it to be entirely plausible after the orchestration of their meeting is revealed.

And, somehow, all three characters are less rounded than they have been in previous versions of this story — none more so than our protagonist. We don't get overt glimpses at Tom's self-awareness as we did in the 1999 film when Damon quietly posited:

"Whatever you do, however terrible, however hurtful, it all makes sense, doesn't it? In your head? You never meet anybody who thinks they're a bad person."

Tom halts mid-way up a decadent stone staircase which forks to the left and right, looking back.

Maybe that's because Scott's version of Tom has even less to lose than the Tom Ripleys that came before him. Maybe it's because Ripley is trying to be cerebral and show, rather than tell, absolutely everything — from the chore that is mopping up blood to what happens when you accidentally leave key evidence at a crime scene and have to double back for it.

That could also go some way to explaining the repeated visual parallels drawn between the Italian painter/murderer Caravaggio and Tom throughout the series, which was Zaillian's addition to the story.

But for what Ripley leaves out from Tom, Marge and Dickie's narratives, it adds immeasurably to its background characters. Italian actor Maurizio Lombardi is a stand-out as weary police inspector Pietro Ravini, as are the string of observant hotel concierges whose delightful expressiveness screams the extent to which they see through Tom.

And then there's Freddie Miles — Dickie's impossibly exhausting trust-fund-baby friend — refreshingly portrayed here by real-life trust-fund baby Eliot Sumner (whose parents are Sting and Trudie Styler). Their decision not to emulate the late Philip Seymour Hoffman's iconic version of Freddie is commendable.

Freddie sits at a cafe table with a hand over their mouth as they consider something being said.

Surprisingly, there are several moments of hilarity in Ripley; there are even darkly humorous moments in the wake of cold-blooded murders.

But each of these gags pale in comparison to the highly satisfying ending — which happens to be less wrenching than that of the 1999 film, and more exciting than the book.

(Ironically, I have gone over the word limit for this review.)

Ripley is streaming on Netflix.

In the modern world, any company is trying to modernize its services. And services for writing scientific papers are no exception. Therefore, now it is very easy to order work and does not take time:

  • First, you need to choose a good site that you can trust. Read their privacy policies, guarantees, payment methods and of course reviews. It will be a big plus that examples of work are presented on the online platform.
  • Next, you need to contact a manager who will answer all the necessary questions and advise on the terms of cooperation. He will tell you about the acceptable writing deadlines, provide information about the author, and calculate the price of the essay.
  • After that, you sign the contract and during the indicated days stay in touch with the employee of the company.
  • Then you receive the file, read it attentively and transfer a certain amount to the company's bank card. After payment, the client downloads the document to his computer and can write a review and suggestions.

On the site Essayswriting, you get guarantees, thanks to which you will be confident and get rid of the excitement. The client can ask any questions about the writing and express special preferences.

Milton’s Ryan Shea is part of an all-Hockey East pairing that has energized the resurgent Penguins

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ryan Shea (5) celebrates his first NHL goal with defense partner Jack St. Ivany (3) against the Capitals on April 4.

PITTSBURGH — The Steel City’s No. 3 defense pairing, with Ryan Shea on the left and Jack St. Ivany on the right, has been a gift from the Hockey East heavens, though neither blue liner made a direct skate from their respective college campuses to the Penguins’ blue line.

Shea, 27, grew up in Milton and played three years at BC High before a one-season tuneup with USHL Youngstown. Originally a Blackhawks draft pick, he turned pro as a free agent with the Stars after graduating from Northeastern in 2020, then joined the Penguins as a free agent last summer after three years of not getting a shot with the varsity Stars.

“It’s been a pretty long road to get here,” Shea said prior to facing his hometown Bruins for the first time. “Obviously, I didn’t get my opportunity in Dallas, even though I was playing pretty good hockey there. But that’s how the cookie crumbles sometimes — you’ve just got to be patient. I pretty much never gave up on my dream to play in the NHL.”

St. Ivany, a California kid from Manhattan Beach, began his college career at Yale, then transferred to Boston College after his sophomore season. Originally a Flyers draft pick, the 24-year-old was a free agent upon leaving the Heights in 2022, signed with the Penguins, and only recently was promoted from AHL Wilkes-Barre Scranton.

The infusion of youth on the back line, noted coach Mike Sullivan , has been a key element in helping boost the Penguins, who were 5-0-1 in their six April games prior to facing the Bruins. The recent hot streak had the team back in the hunt for one of the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.

“We tried to sign him when he was coming out of college,” said Sullivan, the ex-Bruins bench boss, noting that Shea long had been on the club’s radar. “This time around, when we had the opportunity to sign him and add him to this group of defense, I was certainly excited. We had done some homework when he was coming out of Northeastern and then since he’s played at the American League level — he’s been one of the better defensemen at the AHL level in the role that he plays.”

Shea’s game, not flashy, has been more that of a conservative, stay-at-home back liner, though in today’s game all defenseman are charged with more than just pushing guys away from their net. Sullivan refers to Shea as a “stabilizing” defenseman, one who can calm things down defensively and also help move pucks out of the defensive zone.

“He defends well … a calming force,” said Sullivan. “He makes good plays with the pucks. He has very deceptive moves and that helps us get pucks out of our end. He defends well with his stick, has good size [6 feet 2 inches, 200 pounds], good on the penalty kill, and that was the game we were hoping he was going to bring to our team.”

The Shea-St. Ivany duo ”has been real reliable for us,” added Sullivan, “and Ryan has been a big part of that … I think he is playing with more confidence this time around.”

Shea made his NHL debut with the Penguins in October and saw ample action through November before being returned to the AHL in early December. He’s only been a roster regular again since the start of April, which also coincides with that 5-0-1 run Pittsburgh took into the game here vs. the NHL’s other Black and Gold franchise.

“Honestly, it’s great,” said Shea, musing over what it meant to face the Bruins, the team he idolized as a kid growing up only a Red Line commute away from the Garden area. “You grow up watching the Bruins, guys like [Zdeno] Chara and [Patrice] Bergeron and guys even earlier, like [Johnny] Boychuk … the guys I liked to watch on the blue line. They brought a lot of joy to everyone in Mass. back in the day.”

Maroon part of power-play revamp

The Bruins’ power play, a bugaboo of late, rolled out with some changes here vs. the Penguins after going a low-pulse 2-for-27 over the nine previous games.

The most obvious twist had Pat Maroon , playing his first game in Black and Gold, manning the net front on the No. 2 unit, joined up front by Charlie Coyle and Danton Heinen . Kevin Shattenkirk , back for his first game action since April 2, returned to point duty, supported in large part by Morgan Geekie .

The first unit started the night with Jake DeBrusk among the shooters with regulars Brad Marchand , David Pastrnak , Pavel Zacha , and point man Charlie McAvoy . McAvoy entered the night with only one power-play goal all season (Nov. 18), but he had connected at even strength in each of the previous two games.

Per coach Jim Montgomery , the two power-play units for the most part operate under similar instructions, though some of the message is tailored to personnel as well as the time on ice each is allotted during a typical two-minute man advantage.

“It’s probably 60 percent the same message,” said Montgomery, “but we want the second unit to be more direct, because they’re not going to have as much time out there. We want more people and pucks to the net. Breakouts are a little bit different [between the two units]. That might be because of personnel, but also just a factor of time on the board.”

Kevin Shattenkirk has been an effective offensive defenseman throughout his career, and the veteran will get another chance to man the Bruins power play.

Shattenkirk, playing in only his 59th game of the season, entered the game with two power-play goals, the most of all Bruins defensemen this season. He had a familiar screener up front in Maroon. The two played together in Tampa in 2019-20 and have a Cup ring to prove it.

“We all know what he does and the strengths of his game,” said Shattenkirk. “A bit part of that [for Maroon] is being at the net front. I played with him at Tampa on the second power play. That was our M.O. to get pucks there. We know not only does he do a great job of screening, but he can make those little plays along the goal line, so again, I think he fits perfectly into the mold for what we are trying to do on our unit — he’s a great asset to have him slot in there.”

Cassidy leads Knights to another playoff berth

The Vegas Golden Knights, with ex-Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy in charge, on Friday night locked down the eighth and final Western Conference playoff berth. Entering the 8:20 puck drop here, the last two Eastern berths remained up for grabs among the Penguins, Islanders, Red Wings, and Capitals. The Flyers also remained in the hunt, but began the day having played the most games (80) of the “wannabe” bunch. It’s possible the Bruins won’t know their Round 1 opponent until the East wraps up regular-season play Wednesday, a night that has the Penguins playing the Islanders in Elmont, N.Y. …The Bruins will enjoy a day of rest in D.C. on Sunday, face the Caps there the next night, then return for the season wrap Tuesday night vs. Ottawa on Causeway Street ... In his 451 regular-season games prior to facing the Penguins, McAvoy had 12 power-play goals. Shattenkirk, playing in game No. 950, entered with 44.
