The most important aspect of any dental treatment plan is understanding why doctors recommend a specific treatment in the first place. Everyone has unique dental needs, based on such factors as their age, daily oral care habits, and existing dental restorations, such as fillings or crowns. The order to follow when treatment planning is the acute phase, prevention, stabilisation, definitive treatment and finally maintenance. 

The first phase of any treatment plan should be the acute phase where you basically get the patient out of pain and you address any emergency or urgent problems. 

Some problems need immediate attention and will need treatment on the same day, and these are Emergency problems like severe dental pain, swelling, systemic infection, or trauma to the face or jaw. Some problems don’t need immediate attention. These are treatments that postponing won’t cause the patient unnecessary pain or risk of systematic illness.

This part of the treatment plan is often overlooked because when treatment planning we tend to start thinking about all the different restorative or period problems but this acute phase is especially important when it comes to building a good rapport with your patients. 

After the Acute phase of the treatment plan, you need to look at prevention. Prevention needs to be in nearly all treatment plans that you write. It should include oral hygiene instructions, fluoride, diet diary and advice. 

The next phase is the stabilisation phase and is kind of connected to prevention in the sense that we want to stabilise their dentition to prevent any of the current diseases from getting worse. 

The next section to include is checking uncertain teeth. These are teeth which you will have to investigate further by removing caries and then assessing the options. Options might be filling, root canal treatment, crown or extraction. 

The next phase of the treatment plan is the definitive phase or as others might call it the restorative phase. After the definitive phase comes the Maintenance phase where you see the patient in regular intervals to monitor their oral health and to prevent any disease like caries from happening. 

This dental treatment plan template will primarily be useful to dentists and dental clinics. You can use it when preparing materials for clients on proper dental care. You can also use the slides in this template when explaining caries to patients or to visualize the main elements of a tooth.

Complex Dental Treatments: 8 Effective Strategies for Case Presentation

About 15 years ago I was one of the surgical assistants in our oral surgery practice. I had been crossed trained in the front office and was presented with the opportunity to become a treatment coordinator. I thought to myself, “easy enough, I come from an assistant background; I have the knowledge of procedures and it comes down to simply presenting the treatment plan.” My first few cases went great! Straight forward wisdom teeth, a few single implant cases. I thought, “wow I am golden.” Then came the eye opener: a large complex case. Upper and lower All-on-4 surgical treatment with a projected surgical fee of 27k which did not include the restorative fee. I began to sweat. My hands got clammy, I was instantly nervous and I began questioning how the patient was going to afford their treatment. I went in to see the patient and stumbled on my words. I wasn’t confident and the patient left the office with the decision to “think about it” and get back to us. That night I realized I had a lot to learn. From there, I continued on with confidence and perfecting my treatment plan presentation . This mission resulted in a treatment plan acceptance rate of 98% .

I believe patients need to feel confident that they are in the right office and that their needs are addressed (especially to eliminate their fears.) Here are my eight effective strategies I have found to be successful for presenting complex treatment cases.

Step 1: Do your homework!

As a dental treatment coordinator , you want to be educated on each of the procedures performed in your practice. You need to know pre and post-op care and be able to articulate them to your patient in an easy to understand manner.

A great way to do this is to sit in on your doctor’s consultations, observe surgeries and train on total patient care. Prior to presenting treatment cases, be sure to read all notes in the patient’s chart. This starts with the initial phone call all the way through to the doctor’s notes. This homework will help you determine the type of patient you are presenting to (fearful, straight to the point, second opinion, lots of questions.) All patients are different and you should know how to effectively communicate with each one of them based on their preferences. There needs to be a smooth transition from the first phone call to meeting with the implant treatment coordinator.

As such, documentation in the patient’s chart needs to be as detailed as possible for the doctor and treatment coordinator to know how to tailor the care to their specific needs. Also, make sure their insurance has been verified and that you have verified coverage for the specific codes presented.

Step 2: Simplification

Simplifying the process is vital to case acceptance. For example, if you give an All-on-4 patient a treatment plan that visually has a long list of teeth to remove, all implant positions, each of the 15 min intervals of sedation, etc., then you are already overwhelming them. We found that the treatment plan should be itemized in your system but the patient should be presented with a more simplified version. Example, all teeth removed with All-on-4 implant placement and sedation included. Now you have an outline of what is being performed and the patient is focused on the next step of their care instead of the fear factor. Our goal is to always calm, educate and provide solutions.

Step 3: Introduction

Always introduce yourself to the patient and explain the role you play in their care. Let them know you will be the one to communicate with everyone involved in their care to assure a smooth, successful experience. To many patients it can be worrisome when dealing with multiple offices. By clearly describing the role you play, you can gain confidence and begin to build trust.

Step 4: Body language

Always sit with your patient at a safe distance. Preferably next to them if the space allows. Don’t stand and talk down to them. Sitting with your patient allows them to feel comfortable and not rushed through the treatment planning process.

Step 5: Build trust

It’s important to have a calm and uninterrupted conversation with the patient to identify any fears or anxiety. Once you understand their concerns, you can take steps to address them in a thoughtful and reassuring manner. Next, you want to reiterate and confirm the treatment the dentist is recommending and paint a picture for them. Detail the steps in their care and what aftercare will look like. This overview will give the patient an idea of what to expect. It’s a great opportunity to market your website. Consider showing them pertinent videos of the procedure, before and after photos and reviews of patients who have been through the same treatment.

Step 6: Q & A

Take time to address each of the patient’s questions and concerns and document them. Taking notes and offering to email them a summary can be very helpful and most patient appreciate it.

Step 7: Finances

Present the financial investment to the patient. Discuss ways the patient may want to explore to pay for their procedure. Offer third party financing as an option. Also, mention ways they may not have considered (such as a loan from their bank, refinancing their home or pulling from their 401k). Finances should always be discussed towards the end of the visit.

Step 8: Conclusion

Summarize the next steps in the patients care and provide a packet with detailed information. Share your contact information and ask if it’s okay to follow up.

To summarize, simplifying patient treatment presentation and following these effective strategies will demonstrate and facilitate five key pillars: teamwork, education, documentation, mindset, and care. Remember, always care for the patient before you take care of them. And most important: when your mindset changes, so does your case acceptance!

3 tips to successfully communicate your patient's dental treatment plan presentation

Have you ever struggled to cover the necessary information in your patient’s dental treatment plan presentation, so it’s easy to accept? 

When it comes to meeting with a patient for a dental treatment plan presentation, it can be challenging to convey complex information in a way that is both understandable and effective.

1. Take your time explaining why your patient needs this treatment

The key to this type of treatment presentation is making sure that the patient totally understands WHY they need the treatment and the VALUE of getting it done. Be sure to express the consequences of not receiving this treatment, especially if it will lead to more expensive treatment in the future. 

For example, if you don’t get this $200 composite restoration now, it could lead to a $1,200 crown down the road.

Make sure you are sitting down knee to knee for this presentation and you and your patient don’t feel rushed. Answer their questions thoroughly or obtain clarity from the provider if needed.

Explaining dental insurance and dental treatment can get wordy and complicated. Here are some quick tips to help your patient understand: 

  • Be clear and concise - keep it as simple as you can. 
  • Use visual aids if possible (x-rays, diagrams, etc.)
  • Provide a print out of their treatment and their costs

One benefit of working with RCM experts is you will have more time to dedicate to patients. If you don’t have the time to give patients a thorough treatment presentation, your team may want to look into partnering with RCM services. 2. Be clear that insurance payments are estimates only

Don’t get bogged down on insurance details. Instead, focus on the word “estimate.”

Basic insurance verification services can give you the information you need to calculate an estimation, but that’s all it is — an estimation. 

No matter how much information you gather during insurance verification, it will still just be an estimate. 

When you use end-to-end RCM services , they verify patient benefits for you, providing the amount of information needed to calculate your patient’s out of pocket estimate.

Optimize insurance verification process to collect more

We asked one of our RCM experts at DCS how they have approached presenting treatment in the past. 

He explained, “When talking about the specific treatment the patient needs, I use the word USUALLY a lot. You need a crown on tooth number 30. Our fee is $1,200 and your plan usually covers this at 50% which means they usually pay around $600. 

We collect a down payment of $600 and usually that covers your portion, but keep an eye out for a statement (or text/email) in case insurance pays less or more than they usually do."

You can present a ballpark number to patients to help them prepare, but you should always start with the full cost of the treatment so that they know they are ultimately responsible, should their insurance not cover it.

Remind them of your financial policy, and develop your financial agreement that details their payment and financing options you offer. Don’t judge their pocketbook and let them determine their best payment method.

3. Remind patients that benefits are not determined until the claim is processed

Dental insurance payers will never be able to give you more than an estimate ahead of time. You’ll know the patient’s costs when the insurance company issues payment with an explanation of benefits (EOB).  Any estimates beforehand may be inaccurate. This is why we don’t recommend spending your valuable time on predeterminations instead of insurance verification.

  • Predeterminations are time-consuming. This time could be spent on other valuable administrative duties such as patient care, patient scheduling, etc. 
  • Predeterminations are not always accurate. Like we said, everything is just an estimate until the claim has been processed. And predeterminations don’t prevent denials when you finally submit the actual claim.
  • Predeterminations can frustrate your patients when they don’t match real costs. Don’t let your patients get stuck on a number. If your patients get an unexpected bill that because their predetermination was inaccurate, they could leave your dental practice

Unlike predeterminations, insurance verification provides you with the information you need to present treatment to patients. Verification gives you a more comprehensive view of benefits. DCS insurance verification services deliver fast and easy technology-assisted verification.

Guidelines for Practice Success | Managing Professional Risks | Patient Records, Charting, and Documentation Protocols

While every patient’s record, and the notes it contains, must be specific to the patient undergoing examination and treatment, much of what is written in the chart can be seen as common to almost every patient. That can make it challenging to make what’s noted in the record seem unique to a particular patient. This reality of dentistry can make the concept of using templates, drop down boxes, etc., especially appealing because, after all, there are only so many ways of saying the same thing.

Frequently using template entries or copying entries from one patient’s records and pasting them into another’s can put a practice at risk, especially in the event of an audit. That’s because these shortcuts can make it easy to overlook blank fields in the record or cause the person writing the note to forget to customize notes. These types of oversights can raise red flags with auditors and prompt them to cast a wider net before closing the audit.

Practices that opt to follow a template approach in making notes in patients’ records should consider making notes that specify tooth-by-tooth status and treatment as well as procedure-by-procedure details. A good rule of thumb is that entries that are customized to the patient are always preferred to the frequent use of the same basic language in multiple records. While custom reporting may take more time, it also provides more protection in the event that a patient files some type of complaint against you or if you are selected for a random audit.

Some healthcare institutions and practices have begun to use “smart phrases” to help dentists report simple and commonly performed procedures such as dental exams and radiographs. If your practice decides to develop and use smart phrases, make sure that individualized data always accompanies the phrase. It’s also a good idea to have the phrases reviewed by an attorney, your professional liability carrier, or a compliance officer to review the phrases and ensure that they’re accurate.

A few sample smart phrases include:

  • I was present in the operatory (during or when) this service was rendered and reviewed the patient’s health history, condition, treatment plan, and supervised the above services provided and documented.
  • I was present in the operatory during or when (detail the service that was rendered) and (note findings and or the treatment plan as appropriate).

Another approach to making notes in the dental record uses the acronym SOAP, which calls for the person making the entry to consider the Subjective, Objective, Assessment and Plan. This system can also minimize the risk of failing to include important details in the record.

SOAP calls for:

  • This would also include updating the medical/dental health history information for existing patients and collecting complete information for new patients.
  • Objective : This part of the entry deals with the patient’s current health status such as blood pressure readings, exam findings, radiographic findings and other diagnostic information, such as pocket depths, etc.
  • Assessment : This is your diagnosis of the patient’s condition, based on the subjective and objective information. There may be several diagnoses to consider.
  • Plan : The unique treatment plan recommended for the patient.

While SOAP is an effective tool for all patients, it can be especially effective when dealing with emergency appointments: gathering the information in this format is an easy way to collect everything needed in order to provide a customized note in the patient’s chart.

General Suggestions for Customizing Notes in the Dental Record:

  • This information will be especially valuable if the patient returns with multiple complaints during the course of treatment.
  • Consider including photos when treating patients. Pre- and post-operative images can support your diagnosis and treatment in the event that a patient claims they’ve experienced an injury as a result of the treatment provided.
  • Specify brand name, lot number and conditions whenever possible.

Problem/Symptoms 1: The patient has irritated gums around teeth, with red and swollen gum tissue in the lower and upper teeth. The patient also has white spots in some teeth, indicating the initial signs of enamel decalcification.

Long-Term Goal: Improved dental hygiene through regular brushing and flossing.

Short-Term Objectives:

  • Teach the patient how to floss properly.
  • Reduce the patient’s plaque with regular flossing and the use of antiseptic mouthwash.
  • Reduce the white spots on the patient’s teeth.
  • Reduce the patient’s gum swelling and redness.

Initial Date - 09/10/2019

Date Completed - 09/30/2019

Problem/Symptoms 2: The patient has halitosis and showed a gum recession. There are also deep pockets from the upper lateral incisor to the first molar and the surrounding gums. 

Long-Term Goal: Stop the progression of the patient’s chronic periodontitis and prevent recurrence through regular flossing, proper brushing, and dental cleaning.

  • Remove the bacteria build up between the patient’s gums and teeth.
  • Cure the patient’s halitosis.
  • Promote the healing of the patient’s gum tissue.

INTERVENTIONS

The patient came in complaining of halitosis and gum bleeding. She was advised to do proper flossing and regular brushing at least three times a day. She was also instructed to use an oral rinse to prevent plaque build-up. The dentist also showed her some techniques on how to effectively clean teeth without experiencing pain from her swollen gums.

The patient was also advised to control or eliminate her smoking habit. The attending dentist did a brief 4-minute counseling session to convince the patient to stop smoking, suggesting techniques, coping strategies, and alternatives.

Review Date: 09/10/2019

The patient’s plaque build-up and gum redness and swelling have reduced. Halitosis is still present but is expected to disappear with a significant reduction of plaque and bacteria. 

The patient is still in the process of considering tobacco cessation. The dentist will continue with the counseling sessions, taking care not to pressure the patient.

Treatment Plan Presentation – Big vs. Small

Over the years I’ve done my share of “big case” dentistry.  And, I’m often asked how I get the “big cases.”  Yet, I also understand many dentists have no interest in doing big cases.  For today’s installment, I’m going to skip the rather broad topic of attracting “big case dentistry” and get to the actual presentation to the patient.  Specifically, I’ll show you how I present it in written form.

All practice management software (PMS) conveniently lets you punch in a treatment plan.  Then it spits it out in an itemized format on paper.  This is fine for small treatment plans that involve basic restorative treatment for a few teeth.  But, for extensive restorative and prosthetic treatment plans, I believe it’s a huge mistake.  Why?  Read on…

A large treatment plan, when spit out by your PMS is a laundry list of codes and fees that means little to nothing to a patient.  Worse, it can be very intimidating and confusing.  “What’s this ‘P-slash-C’ for, and why does it cost $295?”   The patient will tend to look at long list of procedures (looks like a LOT of work!) and each individual fee.  Then he or she will start to question each one… if not vocally, at least in his or her mind.

What does all this mean to a patient? Does it answer all of the patient’s questions?

A good treatment plan presentation (verbal and written) is one that answers the patient’s questions.  We dentists tend to focus on the how and why instead of the BENEFITS to the patient.  Of course, we also have to cover alternative treatment options, risks vs. benefits, etc.  We can do it in a patient-friendly way, though and still cover our bases.

What is it good for?   Aaaaaabsolutely nothin’… say it again!

Answer the questions!

So, what do patients want to know?  Do they want to know about osseointegration?  Nope!  Do they want to know how you’ll be bonding materials to their teeth?  Nope!  Do they want to hear about how a post and core is placed?  Nope!  Do they want to know about crown-root ratios?  NO!  Stop thinking like a dentist.  Pretend, for a moment, that you are talking to a non-dentist… a regular person… your patient.

When it comes to treatment options, they want to know about BENEFITS.  Patients want three things from dental treatment:

  • Last a long time.

That’s it!!  Really!  It is!

When it comes to the actual treatment plan, patients want to know three more things:

  • How many appointments?

That’s it!!  Really!  Don’t bend their ears about anything else!  You’ll just talk them out of treatment.  Ask me how I know!  With 24 years under my belt, I finally figured a few things out.  😀

The secret to your success…

Over the years, I developed a way to present treatment and answer those questions, while covering my “informed consent” bases.  I quit printing out those PMS treatment plans.  I quit itemizing the fees.  It wasn’t working for the big cases.  Not at all!  I wanted to present treatment options, informed consent, and answer the patients’ questions in one fell swoop.  Again… there’s no real automated / lazy way to do this.  But, at the end you’ll see that after a while, you can make the process more efficient.

What’s my big secret?  It’s not a secret.  It’s not rocket surgery.  I’ve put this out there on Dentaltown.com a number of times.  I am reprising it here for posterity and easy reference.  🙂

I present the whole case and a single CASE FEE printed on paper created by a word processor.  Remember the patient’s questions (see lists above).

Options, options, options…

Let me back up a bit, though.  If the case has a number of options (and they usually do), I’ll present those options first, in general terms, along with pros and cons and fee ranges.  So, if you can imagine a case where the patient may have missing teeth and others in need of restoration.  Options might include:  removable, traditional crown & bridge, and implants.  Three basic options.  Start there.

Or it could be a cosmetic case that could be an orthodontic + minimally invasive restorative vs. ten or more porcelain restorations.  Also remember to include the option of no treatment (and possible consequences).

It helps to print it out in an easy-to-read-and-understand format.  And, again, consider a significant other at home may be looking at it (and be involved in the final decision).

Finalizing the plan

Once the patient has decided on a particular option, I write up the treatment plan, again remembering the patient questions.  I summarize the treatment.  Then I map out the number of appointments (and time between appointments).  And, I quote a CASE FEE.  I don’t break it down by the tooth.  It’s the whole case, soup to nuts.  One fee.  I also include any “informed consent” caveats that should be mentioned.

Surf’s up!

This approach has worked very well for me over the years.  In this economy, I’m not doing as many of the “big cases” as I was in years past.  But, I expect once the economy turns around (whenever THAT’S going to be!), there will be a pent-up demand for these services.

The question is:  Will you be ready to surf that wave when it comes?

“You can either surf, or you can fight!…  If I say it’s safe to surf this beach, Captain, then it’s safe to surf this beach! I mean, I’m not afraid to surf this place, I’ll surf this whole ***** place!”

So, if you’re not already comfortable doing big cases (but would like to), sharpen that saw by going to as much related CE as you can.  And, then when the right patient comes in, you’ll be ready not only to do the case, but effectively present it as well.  Remember what the PATIENT wants to know.  Keep it simple!  Feel free to adopt and adapt my approach on a word processor to suit your own style.  Once you’ve got a number of these stored on your hard drive, for any given case, you can go back and modify a previous similar plan (and not have to start over from scratch).  So, it does get easier and more efficient.

Thanks again, Mike. I’m going to pilfer your templates. I do a lot of full mouth cases and you are right: giving the patient too much info is a bad thing. Just let them know that you’ll take good care of them, that you stand behind your work, and that they’ll be able to chew and smile with confidence.

I too have noted less of these bigger cases in recent times. My question to you would be approximately how much time does it typically take for you to finalize the final treatment plan. Obviosuly some of that will depend on the patient but I am guessing you have a couple consultation appointments? One for the treatment options overview and then a 2nd consult for the final treatment plan?

I realize you are probably at a point and time in your career where these big cases seek you out but I’d like to see you write sometime on how you approach people unaware of their dental problems who are big cases but don’t know they are (or at least won’t acknowledge they are).

I’ve got bunches of these treatment plans “in the can” on my hard drive. So, most times, I can dig one up and just modify it. But, before that, I sit down with x-rays, models, photos, etc. and sketch out some options on a blank piece of paper.

Sometimes we have 2 consultations (options and final). Other times, we can sort it all out at the options consult. Just depends.

How do I approach folks that have big issues but don’t know? I just say, “Duuuuuuuude… your grill be all jacked-up!” 😉 Just kidding.

Honestly, most of them know. They just don’t know what can be done because other dentists never tried to tell them. Most dentists don’t want to do big cases. Some are afraid if they present a big case, the patient might say YES! Some are afraid of rejection (of the big fees). “$30,000??? Are you out of your mind, Doc???” Some dentists don’t like hearing that. So, they avoid the “confrontation.” Of course it’s nothing like a confrontation. But, most people don’t like rejection. So, it’s easier to never ask.

I’m just doing this in Microsoft’s “Word.” I create a table to organize the treatment sequencing.

Over time, I’ve saved a bunch of these on my hard drive. So, if I can, I try to find a similar case and then just modify it for the next case.

I try to put a treatment plan from hygiene first, chef complaint then worst condition teeth and last the most important teeth to save first to last ( such as 6 and 11 is important to save for partial denture) but my boss ( not a dentist) want me write down from tooth number 1 to 32 in that order. She said easier for the front desk to type the treatment plan. And i don’t agree with her. I feel that the big treatment plan the fee is too high, so if address the chef complaint first and get patient out of pain is very important, that will increase trust level between patient to doctor. And then take out the worst condition and save the one may have possiblity need RCT if wait then RCT may become necessary( that will increase extra 1000 dollars). I don’t think because it is easy for the front desk and scare patient off by fee. Let me know what you think? and your opinion of my boss thinking?

Hi Bernard. Thanks for visiting my blog. Every case and every patient is different. I agree that treating the chief complaint first is the best way to gain the patient’s confidence. After that, it really depends. I try to get to know the patient and his or her goals. Then I tailor the treatment plan to fit that. I will also come up with multiple options, so that we can fit the patient’s financial resources.

that is what i am trying to do. But the boss want me to write down from tooth #1 to tooth #32 in that order. I totally not agree with her. She said that is hard for the front to type the treatment plan. How you resolve that problem? How you can make the front desk easier to type the treatment plan?

I don’t think I can answer the question, unfortunately. It depends on the systems in place at your practice. I recently converted to Open Dental software, and it is very, very easy to punch in the treatment plans (in any order). It also makes it easy to split the plan into groups and prioritize them.

Presenting options pro and con is the ethical thing to do. However most do not They present the ideal first and push for acceptance Only if unsuccessful will options reluctantly be presented

The problem with presenting options is patients will pick the cheapest way out And not fully be satisfied with results even if forewarned

We are not required to divulge cons which are highly unlikely For instance, very small percentage of titanium implants develop Osteosarcoma

However most do not tell patients the truth that conventional treatment may outlast implants which are often, to make the sale, touted as forever. Patients are rarely informed restorative is finite and will need replacement. Often cases eventually fail in senior citizens retired on fixed income who cannot afford replacement or even those younger now without resources to replace.

Such contingencies are rarely if ever disclosed for fear of losing the sale. And as well, perhaps rendering appropriate care

Currently, provider economic factors present as student loan payback, office overhead, discount plans and life style.

How do we rationalize all these factors and discharge fiduciary responsibility to our patients who trust us. Will that trust which is our only “coin” vital to acceptance ultimately be squandered?

Patients often select a mid plan so three options may be offered A. Basic Plan to eliminate dental disease B. Ideal Restorative Plan C. Outrageous Plan nobody would accept

Hi Lloyd. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I have not found that patients pick “the cheapest way out.” Most patients want “the best.” Certainly, some cannot afford it. I try to present all options, and my patients vary across the board in which they choose. Some choose the best. Some choose the middle. Some choose the least expensive. ALL patients deserve to know their options, regardless of their perceived socio-economic status.

I routinely tell patients about the potential and, if they live long enough, almost inevitable failure of restorative treatment. I don’t fear “losing the sale.” I think we are obligated to fully inform our patients. And, I don’t believe I’ve EVER lost a case due to the reality that they will need maintenance / replacement in the future.

Thanks for these examples and explaining the emotional influence of patient decisions. I would consider myself thorough, a talker, and honest when it comes to patient conversations. This often leads to talking in circles or just overwhelming the patient with a large treatment plan. I have improved, but still get anxiety when a patient with a very large treatment need arrives in my practice. My normal method is to create a word document with about 3 options with generic pros/cons and fee ranges. After narrowing it down with the patient I lock in a specific quote based on lab/material cost/and time required to complete. I find your examples very valuable not only because it aligns with what I have learned works, but that it includes a bit of a consent to the longevity of treatment. This method is very patient focused revolving around their value for care, but in a way is very abbreviated for ease of conversation. Glad I came across this…keep it up

I’ve been working on my case presentation skill for extensive cases to keep it short & simple by answering What (summary of what pt need), Why (if they ask), How (if but rarely asked) and How much & how long to complete case. Then I came across your article…what a blessing!! I tend to “get in the weeds” and find myself going into the “why” first…(perhaps to ‘defend’ or ’empower pts w/ knowledge so they can make the best informed decision for themselves’).

What is hemophilia? a group of genetic disorders that impairs the body's ability to control blood clotting. hemophilia A - genetic deficiency in clotting factor 8, which is an essential blood clotting protein hemophilia B - rarer than hemophilia A, deficiency in clotting factor 9 gene Management of patients depends on the severity of their disorder, mild, moderate, or severe and the invasiveness of the procedure. If the procedure has limited invasiveness and the patient has a mild bleeding disorder, only slight or no modifications will be required. Overall, It is essential to prevent accidental damage to the gingiva and mucosa by cautious use of any instruments and things like the saliva ejector. Damage to tissues that cause bleeding can escalate into dental emergencies if bleeding can not be stopped, or controlled. What exactly does this mean? Pre-treatment A hemophiliac does not bleed more intensely than a person without, but can bleed for a much longer period of time. Even minor injuries can result in blood loss for days or weeks. People brush there teeth for many reasons. It could be because they don't want bad looking teeth, because they need to for their job, or just because they enjoy doing it. People have done it for thousands of years, and will continue to do it because it is very important to your health. 3. Its what they've been taught to do The End Because the waitress is in constant touch with the public and relies on tips for most of their income, bad breath or yellow teeth could have negative effects on their earnings. In contrast, a chef is in the kitchen, not seen by the public and paid by salary, will not be affected by having bad teeth. 2.
