ELCC Standard 1.0: Vision

A building-level education leader applies knowledge that promotes the success of every student by collaboratively facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a shared school vision of learning through the collection and use of data to identify school goals, assess organizational effectiveness, and implement school plans to achieve school goals; promotion of continual and sustainable school improvement; and evaluation of school progress and revision of school plans supported by school-based stakeholders.

ELCC Standard 1. 1 : Candidates understand and can collaboratively develop, articulate, implement, and steward a shared vision of learning for a school.  

School leaders are the primary carriers of the vision and mission of a school, making their example key for passing those values on to all other stakeholders. By intentionally modeling and implementing strategies for maintaining a positive school culture, school leaders can effectively set community expectations. In this assignment, I give an example of school vision and mission statements and name specific strategies for "passing the torch," or helping stakeholders to understand and these key elements of the school's culture.

ELCC Standard 1.2: Collect and use data to assess organizational effectiveness and implement plans to achieve school goals. 

While site budgets can be a point of anxiety in the life of a school leader, student-centeredness and a commitment to the mission and vision of the school can provide strong direction for decision-making. In this assignment, I demonstrate the ability to use multiple data points for budgetary decision-making, including budget vs. actual spending analysis, schoolwide needs assessment survey responses, and details of the school improvement plan. I also utilize my own understanding of the school mission and vision to suggest original ideas for supporting the major programs within the educational model.

Developing teachers and staff through strategically planned PD is essential for driving school improvement. In this case study, I present strategies for promoting growth in identified areas of improvement among teachers. By implementing a professional development system that utilizes the principals of professional learning communities (PLCs) and regularly meeting one-on-one with teachers, I believe instructional practices will improve.
