The school is a blessing in disguise and the proof of the importance of a school in our life. School is the place where we cry going the very day and also cry, leaving the last day.

There is an excellent slogan in Sanskrit, which, when translated in English, reveals that education imparts morality and loyalty to each and everyone and is the reason behind everyone’s success in life. Here people may question that many people are still successful despite being dropouts. Then why education alone is credited for his/her success?

At the very instance, it seems correct. We may take example of Sachin Tendulkar. Despite a school dropout, he has created histories in his life. Correct. but do you know who has been credited for his stupendous achievements? The answer is Shri Ramakant Vitthal Achrekar. This man was Sachin’s first teacher, who taught him how to handle a cricket bat. I studied in a school which was near to my home. It was a small school in a small town, not like today’s convent like school. It has only a two-storied building. The infantry and junior sections were on the ground floor while the senior parts were on the first floor of the building. It was those days when I joined the school in lower Kindergarten. My heart was in deep sorrow that I have to be away from my mother for like 4-5 hours. I was weeping and in agony that Dai Maa arrived at me and asked if I need some help from her and then brought me a glass of water and I clean tone asked me to drink. I drank the complete water in one ship out of shivering and afraid of being scolded again. Then she took me to my class and ordered me to be there till the last bell rings. Being afraid of scolding again, I sat quietly and waited for the last bell to ring. After the bell, I hurried as if a prisoner is freed from prison and asked to leave otherwise will be prisoned again. I ran to the Dai Maa and took me back Home. It continues for some days, and I met my first School friend. I, along with him, started the journey of an education getter and stared to exploring what a beautiful place my school was. Surrounded by a garden from all the sides with notice board, “Plucking off a flower is strictly prohibited.” Our Headmaster, a master in biology and zoology, himself took care of the garden, and anyone who disobeys was taken to task.

Not only a fascinating garden, but my school also had an excellent science laboratory where we use to analyze various chemical compounds and sometimes make a blunder, which could break all the furnishes( flask) available with a boom. The teachers of my school were all good and fit for the profession they chose. It is their role in my life that today when I looked back, my eyes fill with tears in their remembrance.

With the teachers who compel me to learn the tasks daily and impel to my success at considerable length. They propel me ahead of anyone else in the journey called life. It is not only the one reason I love my school but also as they noted guardian they overlook and not ignored my wicked deed on the campus of the school’s premises. Was that of my first crush whom I meet in class 8th. Understanding the seriousness of the age group and the attraction towards the opposite sex, my teacher called me and, with much sympathy, promised me that he will help me when the time comes.

Today we both are settled with our partners with the same essence of friendship understand that it was just an attraction and nothing more than that. As this can happen at the age, we were in, but as the time came, both of us understood the reality.

What has My School Taught Me?

My school, like everyone else’s school, taught me to live life to the fullest and enjoy this present movement without worrying about the future. The very first day itself, our Headmaster taught the importance of plants and gardens. It fills my heart with the joy unspeakable to try to sum up what my school taught me. My school life started with the lesson and big lecture in the form of cold-hearted scold by my master over the importance of plantation and why we should not pluck the flower off.

Not only about the greenery had my school also taught me the value and importance of wildlife. Some time it disheartened me over the decreasing number of Tigers in our country. My school has won many trophies, shields, and medals in many extra-curricular activities. In debates also, the students of my school secure good positions. It is considered to be one of the best schools in my locality.

But, all of this isn’t enough to make me a good human being and succeed in life. This is the reason why all the students of my school get good marks. My school is also very ahead in sports. Students are given training for sports like Hockey, Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, etc. Annual Games are organized once a year. To maintain the fitness of the students, there is a parade followed by prayers every day.

The school library helps the students a lot. There is a unique treasure trove of books here. Apart from stories, biographies, and science books, there is no dearth of subject material here. English and Hindi newspapers and magazines come here regularly. Every Saturday there is a special seminar for the students in which there is an autobiography competition, debate competition, speech competition, or general knowledge competition. On the day of the school’s anniversary. The students present a colorful programme. Apart from this special programs are organized on the occasion of Children’s Day, Teacher’s Day, Independence Day, and Republic Day.

High School Sports | Bats and cats: Severna Park softball junior Ryleigh Smith carries on a family tradition of helping neighborhood cats

Unbeknownst to most people driving through the white picket, lacrosse-crazed suburbia, there’s a secret society of felines, nestled around seemingly innocuous locations like elementary schools, trails, backyards and driveways.

Smith is a feral trapper by trade, the third in a maternal line. She’s a volunteer with the goal of spaying and neutering wild colonies of kitties to prevent them from growing too large. Even during the busy spring season, the Falcons junior checks on the traps morning and night — sometimes more — and feeds them once a week.

There’s nothing she loves talking about more.

“The younger cats are more sociable and easy to domesticate,” Smith said. “My favorite’s one in Severna Park; he has one eye. He’s not the most friendly, but he’s scraggly and kinda cute looking.”

Her teammates and coach hear about them constantly. Falcons softball coach Bailey Benedick reckons her favorite story is from this past March, when her third baseman regaled her with details on each one of her “cat clans” and how each must have a name to make it “more official.”

“I know they know I’m doing it,” Smith said, “but I don’t think they know how much.”

Erika Smith reckons her daughter was born a future veterinarian. Ryleigh watched the woman she considered her grandmother, Erika’s best friend’s mother, run a massive dog and cat sanctuary while raising exotics, horses, livestock and, of course, feral feline colonies. She passed her knowledge to Erika, Ryleigh said, who then passed it down to her.

“I was so into it. One of my earliest memories is when I was 4 and we went around Baltimore City and Annapolis looking at the colonies and feeding them,” Ryleigh Smith said.

Erika Smith still remembers her 13-year-old daughter walking into her kindergarten classroom with a cat in her hands. Ryleigh couldn’t catch a ride home from school, so the then-freshman walked the Baltimore-Annapolis trail down to her mother’s school when she bare-handed a stray.

“From then on, she was on a mission to catch them all,” Erika Smith said.

The junior currently has roughly 30 cats on her plate. The family keeps watchful eye on colonies living in the two cities still, but the Jones Elementary clan — eight adults and innumerable kittens — belongs to the teenager. She collaborates with neighbors’ backyard colonies. Earning a driver’s license allowed Smith more independence in her work and she developed her own style.

“I prefer tuna to bait them,” Smith said, “even if it smells horrible.”

Smith operates on word-of-mouth — neighbors coming to her or her mother with a cat sighting — and she feeds off Facebook complaints. People even enlist her to trap raccoons and opossums that terrorize local chickens. Sometimes, Smith checks her traps just to find a wayward rabbit hiding inside. She keeps a mental log of where each tends to hide, walking alongside sides of the road with cans in one hand and a plate in the other.

As Smith furthered her craft, curiosity led to more cats. Smith traps, neuters and rereleases those too wild to live indoors. She tries to domesticate some, adopt them out, but one in particular was returned to her (that’s her coach’s favorite). Smith keeps five in the house alone (along with the three dogs, two chinchillas, a hedgehog, a hamster and eight chickens) in a side room. She’s working with her mother to build a shed off their house to shelter more.

And, most importantly, she still invites her mom along.

“I treasure the times we spend together,” Erika Smith said. “It makes my heart happy that at 17, she still chooses me to join her in her adventures.”
