Further, this person needs to take charge of the development of the company’s products and services. As well as research, and development of new technologies and innovation. The officer also conducts market research to acquire a better understanding of the market environment. After that, he or she uses that information to develop products or services that are needed by the market.

Then, the officer is usually employed by a large organization. Such as a manufacturing company, insurance company, hospital, government agency, and more. The duties and responsibilities of this person vary from one organization to another. He or she is mainly involved in coordinating, managing, and supervising all research and development activities within the organization.

But also, it is worth noting that in some organizations, the person who holds this position is responsible for providing technical support to customers. This is on technical problems related to the organization’s products or services.

What makes me smile at work

There’s always some type of unique challenge to work through on each project. Even if it’s a brand you’ve worked on before, we have to change it up to keep our consumers interested. For example, I work on beverages like Mountain Dew, Pure Leaf and, of course, Pepsi. The big wave right now is being healthy and consumers wanting fewer calories. We have to reformulate to make these stable beverages without sugar and with the clean label. Or let’s say the business team has a crazy idea for a new flavor, and you have to go through the steps to make it happen in record time. I think that’s the best part of the job.

How my role creates consumer smiles

We’re the science behind the business; we’re the team that makes things happen. And without R&D, honestly, there wouldn’t be anything on the shelves. That’s why R&D is such a big deal, and we have a big function where each team is responsible for their own piece of the giant puzzle.

Why I chose PepsiCo and R&D specifically

For me, a big part of my curriculum at school for engineering was directed more towards entering the oil industry, and I wasn’t interested in that. We were lucky as undergrads and got the chance to visit these refineries and pharma plans, but I still just didn’t know what industry I wanted to enter. But what I did know is I didn’t want to be solving Bernoulli equations all day, and I wanted to step away from that traditional chemical engineering material and do something a bit more fun.

Best part of my job

As engineers and scientists at PepsiCo, we travel quite a bit to our domestic and international plants around the world. Personally, I’ve been to Ireland and Canada. I’m still waiting to go to plants in Singapore and the Philippines and Thailand. Visiting some of our U.S. plants brought me to the West Coast for the first time. That was really an incredible experience being able to take some time once we were done and explore that part of the world.

The Office of Research Development at Northeastern University is situated under the Office of the Sr. Vice Provost for Research and supports Northeastern research, scholarship, creativity and innovation within the Research Division. The office provides specific assistance to all Northeastern faculty and researchers in the development and submission of research proposals and offers professional development opportunities to faculty and researchers.

Reporting to the Director of Research Development and Strategic Projects, the Research Development Officer (RDO) helps to produce, manage and implement a suite of programs and services designed to increase the competitiveness of proposals for extramural funding, with an emphasis on projects that can scale to major center-level initiatives. The RDO will develop deep knowledge of college-based and multidisciplinary research programs and will participate in the expansion of existing programs and the development of new initiatives. The RDO develops and maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and non-federal extramural sponsor priorities in support of faculty research development efforts, with a focus on building a sustainable matrix of sponsorship from diverse sources and will leverage faculty strengths and internal funding programs to map to key sponsor initiatives. Advised by their supervisor, the RDO oversees the limited submissions process at Northeastern, provides support for the RDO office for event planning and offers proposal development support for single investigator or early career proposals, and to those colleges/campuses without local research development support.

Approximate hiring range: $65,000+

  • Master’s degree in a research related field, plus three years of experience in either research development/research administration with an emphasis on multi-investigator proposal development, or comparable experience in research communications or public administration;
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities with particular emphasis on ability to understand, interpret, and summarize scientific research initiatives across a variety of subject domains for presentation to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Knowledge of extramural federal and non-federal sponsors supporting research and education activities, preferably in a university environment;
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and activities, and flexibility to manage addition or reprioritization of projects and to request guidance as needed;
  • Ability to assume a leading role in project and program management and demonstrated expertise in managing the development of complex documents;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizations skills with a demonstrated ability to build consensus in order to achieve desired outcomes;
  • Experience in academic research, business development, strategic planning, data design and analysis, and technical writing, a plus;

Program Overview

The Division of Translational Research (DTR) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) directs, plans, and supports programs of research that translate knowledge from basic science to discover the etiology, pathophysiology, and trajectory of mental disorders and develop effective interventions for children and adults. The Division, located in Rockville, MD is looking for a motivated individual to serve as a Program Officer to guide research training programs relating to adult psychopathology in the Office of Research Training and Career Development. The Office fosters the training of new investigators and enhances the career development of translational scientists through individual fellowship, career development, research education, and institutional research training grants.

Position Duties

The Program Officer in the Office of Research Training and Career Development serves as a program expert for the research education and training of individuals in the areas of adult psychopathology related translational research. The Program Officer will be expected to provide scientific and programmatic guidance and support to investigators in the early stages of their research careers who are conducting research in fields relevant to the advancement of DTR’s research mission. Responsibilities will include administering and managing an extramural portfolio of research training, education, and career development awards and developing new funding opportunities. The Program Officer will also be expected to interact with researchers in the scientific community and with program officers at NIMH, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other federal agencies, as appropriate.

Qualifications

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have successfully completed a bachelor’s and graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position from an accredited college or university.

This position requires working both independently and collaboratively. Strong organizational, oral, written, and communication skills are also required. Experience managing research programs is also desirable. Successful candidates are subject to a background investigation and public financial disclosure requirements.

  • Developing Standardized Training Packages (STP’s) in line with ICAO Annex 1 and KCAA ATO requirements.
  • Developing, adapting, and/or reviewing TrainairPlus Standardized Training Packages (STP’s) by implementing the TPP curriculum development process and techniques for maintenance of Training Centre of Excellence (TCE) and TrainairPlus (TPP) full membership.

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Aviation, Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Survey, Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunication Engineering, Education, Civil Engineering, Physics, Physical Science, Computer sciences/ICT, Mathematics, Business Administration, Sociology, Statistics, Economics, Law, Programming, and Graphic Design or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate of competency in the relevant research field.
  • Must be in possession of a valid ICAO Qualified Course Developer (IQCD) Certificate in accordance with ICAO Trainair Plus requirement.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Certificate in supervisory skills Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
  • Proficiency in computer applications especially in statistics e.g. Excel, SPSS.
