22 Engaging Free Prize Ideas for the Classroom
Fun prizes don’t have to be expensive.
My typical issue with your average classroom management system is that kids typically work for prizes. Well, your typical prize basket costs a lot of money to fill up! They aren’t expensive individually, but it adds up over a long period of time. Plus, when it runs out, you have to refill it. It is the never-ending cycle of the prize basket.
Because it is so important to me to reward my students, I did some brainstorming, and here is a list of some of my favorite free prize ideas for the classroom.
Discovering Budget-Friendly Prize Ideas:
One common challenge I faced with traditional classroom management systems was the reliance on prizes to motivate students. While each individual prize may not seem costly, the cumulative expense can become substantial over time. It’s a never-ending cycle of refilling the prize basket. Fortunately, I’ve found a way to break this cycle without compromising on rewarding my students.
- Here are some of my favorite free prize ideas for the classroom:
- No Shoes Pass : A break from wearing shoes in the classroom.
- No Homework Pass : A coveted pass that exempts a student from homework for a day.
- Sit in the Teacher’s Desk for a Day : A chance for a student to experience the teacher’s perspective.
- Use a Teacher Pen for the Day : A simple but exciting privilege for a day.
- Student Choice Morning Activity : Empower students by letting them choose their morning activity.
- Tech Time : 10-20 minutes of supervised tech usage.
- Free Draw Time : A creative outlet for students.
- Choose GoNoodle Activity : Let a student pick the GoNoodle activity for the day.
- Seat Swap : Students can switch seats to sit by a friend either in the classroom or during lunch.
- Line Leader : Lead the class in line for the day.
- Skip the Line : A pass that lets a student avoid waiting in line.
- Bring a Comfort Item : Students can bring a pillow, stuffed animal, or blanket for comfort.
- Teacher Desk Privilege : Experience the teacher’s desk for a day.
- Lunch with the Teacher : A special mealtime with the teacher.
- Hat Day : A day to wear a hat in class.
- Morning Activity Choice (Again!) : Because it’s a favorite!
- Show and Tell Pass : Share something special with the class.
- Read to a Younger Class : An opportunity to read to a younger grade.
- Teacher’s Helper : Assist the teacher for a day.
- Marker Privilege : Write with a marker for the day.
- Special Pen Day : Use a unique pen for the day.
- Choose a Read-Aloud Book : Select a book for a class read-aloud session.
Rewarding students is essential, but it doesn’t have to break the bank. These free prize ideas offer creative ways to provide positive reinforcement in the classroom without spending a dime. Hopefully, these free prize ideas can help you to provide some awesome positive reinforcement in the classroom. Let me know what some of your favorite free prize ideas are!

It was important for me to make sure that I included a variety of free rewards for you! This list covers individual free rewards for those moments to positively praise individual students for going above and beyond following your expectations! There is a section for whole-class free rewards that the entire class can work towards. Last, but not least is a section that works in a virtual setting! The virtual section includes both individual as well as whole group rewards. These rewards can also work in a brick-and-mortar setting, so make sure to check it out even if you are not virtual.
Individual Free Rewards
Reward 1 ~ Read a Book to Another Class
Not only does it provide additional reading practice, getting the opportunity to read to another class is just super exciting! Students will love the opportunity to read to a younger grade or even to a past teacher’s class. Their old teacher will love it too!
2 ~ Be Featured on a Photo Recognition Board
You can dedicate an entire bulletin board or part of one in the hallway for a recognition board! Display students’ work and/or photos of themselves to display! Keep in mind student comfort as well as confidentiality if families do not want their child’s photo taken or shared.
3 ~ Choice of Line Leader or Caboose
Who doesn’t love to be first or last in line.
4 ~ Borrow the Principal’s (or Teacher’s) Chair for the Day
For an extra special reward, students can sit in your chair or even borrow the Principal’s chair for the day!

Reward 7 ~ Be the Illustrator
Ever dream of being an illustrator of a book? Here is your opportunity! Not only do you get to draw on the chalkboard or draw during class! You get to illustrate the story that the teacher is reading aloud to their classmates. I like to provide special paper to the student to do this so we can keep the illustrations for future use. I laminate their illustrations and include them within our classroom library.
8 ~ Get a Drink from the Cold Fountain
Yes, there is always the favorite fountain in the school that is better than the others! Try to deny it! 🙂
9 ~ Class Helper for the Day
The class helper can be whatever you want it to be whether they can help pass out papers, sit near the teacher during read-aloud, erase the boards, collect items or a combination of all.
10 ~ Positive Phone Call Home
Students AND families will enjoy this reward! Make a phone call home with the child present to provide some positive news. If appropriate, the child can even get on the phone to talk to their family and receive even more praise.

You can decide on a specific time frame that the student can sit at your desk to work. This can be a half-hour to the entire day!

Reward 13 ~ Free Admission to a School Event *
Often, with school permission, you can get a free ticket to a sports game or admission to an art show or drama presentation.
* A word of caution on this one… Keep in mind the students’ families when providing this option or reward. Sometimes due to work schedules, transportation issues, or other events outside of a student’s control will deny them attending these types of events. Please don’t provide this reward unless you absolutely know that it is feasible for your student.
14 ~ Assist with the Morning Announcements
With principal permission, your student can earn the opportunity to help with announcements. whether they hop on to join in with saying the school pledge, pledge of allegiance, or a morning message…it is just so exciting.
15 ~ Keep a Stuffed Animal or Small Toy on their Desk
Students can earn the opportunity to bring in a small toy (figure, lego piece, fidget toy, etc.) or stuffed animal to keep on their desk. There is an entire classroom management tool called Desk Pets if this reward system appeals to your class this year!
Group Rewards for the Entire Class
16 ~ Dance Party
Turn on those favorite tunes from KidsBop or bring in your favorite playlist! Check out “Clean” 80s music for the classroom on YouTube for some classics! You’ll be surprised at how many of these your students know! “Clean” pop music is another option… you’ll never guess that the ‘Macarena’ is making a comeback!
17 ~ Pajama Day
Students and teachers alike will enjoy a pajama day just to be comfy while working in class goes a long way.

Reward 19 ~ Extra Computer Time
If you have a classroom set or access to individual Ipads/computers, students can earn extra computer time! If you do not, perhaps you can talk with the computer teacher to see if there is a block of time to bring your class to the computer lab instead?
20 ~ Additional Recess or Added Time for Recess
Always a fan-favorite!
21 ~ Have Class Outside
I personally LOVE this reward for myself. Grab clipboards and a pencil then head outside to have class. I love reading with my class outdoors or have my students work in small groups while outdoors.
22 ~ “Free Time” at the End of the Day
The options are truly endless with free time students can play games, draw, or just relax and chat with a friend..
23 ~ Walking Field Trip to the Community Library
If you are lucky enough to have a Community Library within walking distance of the school, then here is your chance to use it together! Take a stroll (with parental permission) on a nice day. Many community libraries will have a librarian read to your class and sometimes complete an activity with them (with advance notice)!
24 ~ Change the Classroom Layout and Allow Students to Sit Wherever They Want to
As a reward, students can pick their new seats in the classroom! I like to have the discussion of “choose wisely” when doing this. We talk about a good seat choice and what that looks like. “Even though we want to sit next to our best friend, make sure we choose a good seat where we won’t get in trouble for talking!”
Reward 25 ~ Dress Up Days
Your class can take a vote on a themed dress up day themes can include wearing a specific color, favorite book character, favorite food, or even old halloween costumes, etc., virtual free rewards (for individual or whole group use).

Positive, specific praise goes so far with students! I always say positive specific praise is like an exclamation point. It is yelling “HEY!, Look at this, this is important!”
27 ~ Earn a Pass to the Zoo , Aquarium , or Museum
Check out some of these Live Zoo Cameras, Aquarium trips, or trips to the Museum.
28 ~ Digital Roller Coaster Ride
YouTube has some amazing Virtual Roller Coaster Rides ! They are as if you are sitting in the front seat of the coaster. Toss your hands up and prepare for an amazing ride!
29 ~ Class DJ
Choose the songs you listen to throughout the day whether to work to or morning GoNoodle songs . To make this a little easier to manage, I had my student choose a general genre (Pop, 80s, Kidsbop , etc.). I found a playlist of that type of music on YouTube to play while students were working. The “DJ” would then give me a thumbs up to keep listening to the song, or they can provide you with a thumbs down if they would like to skip that song on the playlist. This worked out well because the work still continued and the students weren’t calling out or talking about each song.
30 ~ Student Choice of Class Read-Aloud
Allow your student to choose the book you read for read-aloud..
Reward 31 ~ Introduce a Family Pet
This was one of my students’ favorites while we were virtual! As a reward, students were able to choose the opportunity for a show and tell. A show and tell of their PET!
32 ~ Wear a Hat to Class
Students can wear their favorite or silly hat to virtual class!
33 ~ Choose the Brain Break for the Class
Choice continues to be a powerful tool on this list of free rewards! Allow your student to choose the brain break for the day. Perhaps a choice board with a few options like GoNoodle videos , Gross Motor Activity , Breathing Exercise , etc.
34 ~ Access to an Arcade or Arcade Games
Speaking of choice boards, I had a virtual arcade game choice board for my virtual students. This choice board was a simple google slide that had links to various arcade games I found on websites such as ABCya , FunBrain , RoomRecess , or PBS Kids to name just a few.
35 ~ Early Lunch
How special a student or the entire class can feel when they are dismissed early for lunch you can have a specified amount of time to dismiss the student or class, like 10 or 15 minutes early..

Why I stopped giving homework passes & my students loved it!
For years (literally, like 7 of them), homework passes were my go-to reward. Had a birthday, I gave you a Birthday Pass.
Did something above and beyond? I rewarded you with a pass.
Get the picture? It was pretty bad…or good, depending on your viewpoint. About a year ago, I had an epiphany.
As I am sure you know, there is a plethora of research on homework.
There are those in the Alfie Kohn camp , who argue homework has no educational purpose. Then there are those who suggest that without it, there just isn't enough time in the day to build all the necessary academic skills.
However, neither of these camps actually swayed my decision. Keep reading to find out why I no longer give homework passes & what I do instead.
What you'll find on this page:
Why I stopped giving homework passes
So why did I give up on passes?
While they weren't causing any major issues, they also weren't serving any purpose. In fact, they were working against my goals.
I stopped giving these passes because it gave the impression that I didn't see the homework as purposeful or valuable.
Why am I giving it if I am willing to let you skip it?
A homework pass tells students that homework doesn't matter. They can skip it on a whim just by trading in a ticket. Some students used these appropriately – when they forgot an assignment or had a busy night and couldn't quite finish. However, most did not.
Homework passes tell students that the assignment itself is a punishment.
Instead, I want my students to be getting value from their assignments…perhaps even (GASP!!) enjoying it.
How do I handle things now that I quit giving homework passes?
At my campus, homework is required for all students starting in first grade so eliminating homework wasn't an option. While I may have wanted to, it just wasn't a choice for me. Instead, I decided to take a different route.
I decided to incorporate choice . I believe that choice is one of the biggest transformational factors we can incorporate into our classrooms. So the first thing I did was change the assignments to give students options.
For me, this came in the form of homework choice boards, which we called Homework BINGO .
Homework choice boards offer me the opportunity to differentiate while being sure students were practicing the essential skills required by my school – like math facts and consistently reading at home.
When I introduced the new homework format, the students LOVED it! It was the first time they felt like they had any control over their school assignments.
How do Homework Choice Boards work?
I knew homework should focus on practicing skills that students have already learned. Many students don't have a parent to help them with homework, and they don't need to be trying to master new skills without support.
I also don't want to set families up for added stress because they aren't available to help as much as they would like. It just isn't great for building home-school relationships , you know?
That's why I set up the assignments in each square of the choice board to be something they should already know how to do independently.
Reading, writing, math – the basics. I knew if my students continued to build on the basics at home they could do the more challenging tasks at school more easily.
I created the options on the Homework BINGO boards to be familiar but to push students slightly out of their comfort zone. For example, about half of the squares on the board were reading and writing activities, but each square is different.
The option in one square might be 15 minutes of reading about a famous person.
Another square is reading a book of your own choice. They are both reading, but now the students have options and parents can be in control of differentiating based on what works for their lifestyle.
I did the same thing for writing, math, and spelling (all our required homework components).
So what are the rules of Homework BINGO?
I urge the students to make a variety of choices in order to earn BINGO each week. However, I do not make this a requirement. Instead, each student must finish 10 of the 25 squares.
I offer an incentive for those earning BINGO – a chance to earn line leader the following week. Since this is a pretty hot commodity in my classroom, I get many students trying to enter the competition.
Regardless of whether they get BINGO, students have their choice board signed by an adult and return it on Friday. That's it! I pass out a new board on Monday, and students glue it into their take-home journal and we start the process again.
And what do your students and parents think about it?
You wouldn't believe how many students describe their homework as fun!
And the parents?
Let's just say I get a LOT less parent communication about homework now.
Over the years, I've heard it all.
“You give too much homework.”
“Can you give us some extra assignments? We need more homework.”
With the Homework BINGO boards, parents can differentiate for their children. The ball is in their court with how much homework to give beyond the minimum expectations.
I even get comments during parent conferences about how much they like the homework and how they see their children challenging themselves to try something new.
Definitely not something I ever imagined happening.
My replacement for homework passes – Choice Boards
Of course, I still have rewards in my room. I've adjusted them so they don't undermine the joy of learning as the passes did.
Popular choices these days include:
- Shoes off math – a carry-over from my own 2nd-grade teacher, Mr. Hammer, who was WAY ahead of his time
- Use markers or crayons instead of pencils on an assignment
- Flashlight reading
Basically, I have decided to give other choices that are exciting to the students. The funny thing is, I don't miss homework passes…and neither do my students. My homework process is smoother, and my students are interested in participating.
Want to try the BINGO choice boards in your classroom?
Want to give this differentiated homework option a try? It is currently available in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
You can get Homework BINGO here .
It contains weekly homework sheets aligned with a September to May school year. Each week has a slightly different set of options that go with monthly themes and holidays.
Homework BINGO is also editable to allow you to align tasks to your unit plans and practice your students need to be successful. This means you can provide differentiated homework menus to fit your classroom each year.
I'd love to hear more about homework in your classroom. Do you still use homework passes?

Homework help
Necessity of online homework help.
Contemporary world is a scene for competitions. Starting at early childhood environment immerse us into struggle for best positions. With constant population growth it becomes harder to get a place in kindergartens, schools for gifted children, prestigious universities and, of course, you are not alone in desire to have a well-paid job. Children since early age know that they must study hard, devote themselves into different subjects, and be successful and active in post-school projects. Under pressure of numerous complex tasks no wonder they often require homework help. For their needs special websites were launched. And now every child can get guidance and online homework help from every corner of the world. With opportunity to ask questions about necessary subjects he will at his own pace learn information. This also adds more individuality to process of studying, as children might experience problems with concentrated and fast group-learning. Online homework help is not merely a way to make grades better and to finish all tasks in time, it's personal attention and support. Websites offer plenty of subjects to work at, but according to searches most popular (as it's complicated to understand) is math homework help. This subject is a nightmare for both schoolchildren and their parents.
Why using college homework help is beneficial
It might come as surprise for graduates but when you enter college or university, amount of homework will be only increasing. Yes, besides lectures and practical courses you are obliged to do some homework too. And it might be incredibly more complicated than all things you have done in school. Plenty of students are struggling to cope with amount of tasks themselves but some are looking for websites for college homework help. With current subjects, with unknown teachers, with new classrooms it's stressful enough for young people to be focused. That's why students choose homework help discord, a place to discuss all difficulties online and solve problems. With guidance and support of experts it's easier to understand unknown topics and work on self-improvement. It's recommended not to torture yourself and get accounting homework help or any other kind of assistance. With wide range of professionals you can find a person no matter how complicated your task is.
Is it safe to trust strangers with important tasks?
Looking for online help with college or school tasks you might doubt reliability of person who is assisting you from other side of screen. How is it possible to find a proper tutor for difficult statistics homework help? Read reviews, study information, ask for certificates or diplomas to be assured you hire a true expert to perform job
