The Poston Lab recruits and follows older normal adults; older adults with mild cognitive impairment; and patients with Parkinson’s disease, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Alzheimer’s disease, and related disorders. These studies collect information on memory and other mental abilities, which we link with brain imaging, biochemical and genetic markers, and autopsy results. Most research participants will have Parkinson’s disease, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Alzheimer's disease, or another neurodegenerative disorder; some participants will be not have any impairment.    

The Poston Lab seeks a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator Associate. The desired candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, relatively independent, patient, punctual, and conscientious, with excellent interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills in English. Preference will be given to qualified candidates, who are also native/fluent in Spanish (written and verbal). Under the supervision of Dr. Poston and other investigators at the Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), main duties include in-person and telephone recruitment of research participants; obtaining informed consent; scheduling and coordination of research participant visits; maintaining longitudinal contact with participants by phone, email and other means; data collection (including psychometric data), scoring, and data entry.  Training will be provided to administer research questionnaires and administer psychometric tests.

Duties include*:

  • Serve as primary contact with research participants, sponsors, and regulatory agencies. Coordinate studies from startup through close-out.
  • Determine eligibility of and gather consent from study participants according to protocol. Assist in developing recruitment strategies.
  • Coordinate collection of study specimens and processing.
  • Collect and manage patient and laboratory data for clinical research projects. Manage research project databases, develop flow sheets and other study related documents, and complete study documents/case report forms. 
  • Ensure compliance with research protocols, and review and audit case report forms for completion and accuracy with source documents. Prepare regulatory submissions, and ensure institutional Review Board renewals are completed.
  • Assemble study kits for study visits, monitor scheduling of procedures and charges, coordinate documents, and attend monitoring meetings with sponsors, acting as primary contact.
  • Monitor expenditures and adherence to study budgets and resolve billing issues in collaboration with finance and/or management staff.
  • Interact with the principal investigator regularly, ensuring patient safety and adherence to proper study conduct. 
  • Ensure essential documentation and recording of patient and research data in appropriate files per institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in monitor visits and regulatory audits.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish desired.
  • Prior experience with patients or research subjects is desired. Preference given to applicants with previous experience, particularly clinical research experience, with older adults who may have neurological impairment (e.g., Parkinson’s disease) or cognitive impairment (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease). 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with research participants and their families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work easily with research participants and research team members.
  • Strong general computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with computer spreadsheets and database software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Two year college degree and two years related work experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of related education and relevant experience. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

Society of Clinical Research Associates or Association of Clinical Research Professionals certification is preferred. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping. 
  • Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.

The expected pay range for this position is $31.73 to $36.54 per hour.

Position Summary

The Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) is searching for a Project Coordinator to support two different projects: (a) the school’s curriculum review and (b) the Research Ethics in the Middle East and North Africa (REMENA) Project.

The Project Coordinator will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The Project Coordinator will maintain the schedule and records pertaining to the school’s review process.  In addition, he/she/they will collect or analyze data, organize focus groups, workshops and meetings, support the Steering Committee, and disseminate information as directed by the Senior Associate Dean.  As part of the REMENA Project, the Coordinator will maintain the project’s schedule and records, manage the website, support with the publication of various academic articles, take care of all correspondence, and organize workshops and events.

Responsibilities

Specific duties related to the Curriculum Review project include:

  • Maintain project records and write meeting minutes;
  • Maintain project schedule, including, as needed, the calendar of the Chairperson;
  • Data collection, as directed by the Chairperson;
  • Disseminate information as directed, including managing correspondence / communication within and outside the School;
  • Work with the Chairs and the Steering Committee on survey administration, data analysis and synthesis of qualitative research;
  • Organize multiple focus groups and workshops with stakeholders in and outside the school;
  • Support the Steering Committee as needed;
  • Support University review document submission processes;
  • Perform related duties as assigned or requested.

Specific duties related to the Research Ethics in the Middle East and North Africa (REMENA) Project include:

  • Maintain project schedule, including, as needed, the calendar of the Principal Investigator;
  • Manage the project website;
  • Manage all correspondence pertaining to the project;
  • Maintain project records, including developing a bibliography of project-related materials;
  • Edit and proofread academic journal submissions;
  • Organize international workshops, including managing travel and all related activity before, during and after the events (reimburse invoices, arrange transportation and accommodation, book event venues, and assist participants);
  • Engage in stakeholder management as assigned by the Principal Investigator;
  • Organize meeting with stakeholders and write meeting minutes;
  • Help the Principal Investigator in managing the project’s budget;
  • Provide support with expense management;
  • Data collection and analysis as directed by the Principal Investigator;

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, and 1-2 years of related fulltime equivalent experience;
  • Excellent research, communication, interpersonal and writing skills;
  • Detail-oriented and deadline driven with excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information;
  • Proficient in using computer software for communication, data gathering, statistical analysis and reporting activities;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree;
  • Three years of relevant experience;
  • Native or near-native English fluency;
  • Experience in website management and report writing;
  • Experience in data analysis;
  • Experience in project management and stakeholder development;
  • Interest in global higher education administration;
  • Experience with expense management, travel and invoice software (such as Concur) is highly desirable;
  • Must be able to travel internationally.

  • Assists with reviews of vendor performance levels and ensures service level agreements are met.
  • Supports the contract negotiation process with service vendors and reviews project invoices submitted by vendors for accuracy.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in business continuity, crisis management, disaster recovery, or information security.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience working on project(s) involving the implementation of project life cycle methodologies (e.g., SDLC, PMI, organizational change).
  • Minimum three (3) years experience managing project budgets.
  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, MIS or related field and Minimum three (3) years project work experience, including Minimum three (3) years providing project or team leadership. Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
  • Three (3) years experience developing project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) used to create project schedules and estimates.
