Holi is known as the festival of colours. It is one of the most important festivals in India . Holi is celebrated each year with zeal and enthusiasm in the month of March by followers of the Hindu religion. Those who celebrate this festival, wait for it every year eagerly to play with colours and have delectable dishes.

Holi is about celebrating happiness with friends and family. People forget their troubles and indulge in this festival to celebrate brotherhood. In other words, we forget our enmities and get into the festival spirit. Holi is called the festival of colours because people play with colours and apply them to each other’s faces to get coloured in the essence of the festival.

History of Holi

The Hindu religion believes there was a devil king named Hiranyakashyap long ago. He had a son named Prahlad and a sister called Holika. It is believed that the devil king had blessings of Lord Brahma. This blessing meant no man, animal or weapon could kill him. This blessing turned into a curse for him as he became very arrogant. He ordered his kingdom to worship him instead of God, not sparing his own son.

Following this, all the people began worshipping him except for his son, Prahlad. Prahlad refused to worship his father instead of God as he was a true believer of Lord Vishnu. Upon seeing his disobedience, the devil king planned with his sister to kill Prahlad. He made her sit in the fire with his son on the lap, where Holika got burned and Prahlad came out safe. This indicated he was protected by his Lord because of his devotion. Thus, people started celebrating Holi as the victory of good over evil.

The Celebration of Holi

People celebrate Holi with utmost fervour and enthusiasm, especially in North India. One day before Holi, people conduct a ritual called ‘Holika Dahan’. In this ritual, people pile heaps of wood in public areas to burn. It symbolizes the burning of evil powers revising the story of Holika and King Hiranyakashyap. Furthermore, they gather around the Holika to seek blessings and offer their devotion to God.

The next day is probably the most colourful day in India. People get up in the morning and offer pooja to God. Then, they dress up in white clothes and play with colours. They splash water on one another. Children run around splashing water colours using water guns. Similarly, even the adults become children on this day. They rub colour on each other’s faces and immerse themselves in water.

In the evening, they bathe and dress up nicely to visit their friends and family. They dance throughout the day and drink a special drink called the ‘bhaang’. People of all ages relish holi’s special delicacy ‘gujiya’ ardently.

In short, Holi spreads love and brotherhood. It brings harmony and happiness in the country. Holi symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. This colourful festival unites people and removes all sorts of negativity from life.

Holi in Assam

Holi is one of the most popular festivals celebrated in India.A day when every age group comes together in wake of joy to spread colours and happiness all around!

The ancestral works claim thatMahapurushSrimantaSankardeva was the one who introduced Holi in India. This festival has a historical significance that depicts victory of the evil upon good. It not only departs a message but also acts as a bong for upheaval of spring season, warmth and happiness. Moreover, every state, region and corner of India celebrates Holi in its own special way, so do Assamese do!

Holi festival in Assam

Holi is regarded with the name of Phagwah or the festival of colours in Assam. It is a 3-5 day affair for the people residing in here. Though, all the local regions of Assam have the same rituals during Holi, Barpeta is known to celebrate it in an entirely unique and grand style. Many people from other parts of India, world and Assam itself travel to Barpeta to enjoy the Doulutsava!

It is known that Mathura Das Bura Ata was the first man to celebrate Doulutsava in Barpeta. Ever since then, the Doul festival celebration is being carried on in the same satriyaparampara (traditional way) by the devotees of Lord Krishna in Barpeta. People forget all their problems, agonies and sorrows during the DolJatra, another name to denote Doul festival in Assam. And swing in the songs with rhythms that go like,

“Range phagukhelechaitanyabanamali Duhatephagurgundasichantamurari.”

Apart from this, an idol of Lord Krishna isworshipped by priests in Barpeta Sara and other parts during Holi festival celebration in Assam. The idol of god is made to stay at the place of worship for the days following the celebration. All devotees dedicate their prayers to Krishna through many different ways.

Traditional Norms of Holi in Assam

• According to traditional norms, Doul is celebrated for 3-5 days. The three day Doul is known as “BurhaDoul” that is held in month “Chotpurnima” (full moon).
• Whereas, the four day Doul is known as “DekaDoul” that is held in month of “PhagunPurnima.”
• It comprises of a ritual called mejipuoa, which describes the winter is ready to move out.
• The occasion of is divided into two parts. First includes the burning of clay huts near the houses by people. It is to signify the legend if Holika. And in second half, Holi begins with colours, water, flowers, music and what not!
• Often the joy is combined with tributes to the god, Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha. People offer prayers and sign songs in chorus devoted to them.

The Days Of Holi Celebration In Assam, Barpeta Are Described As:

• First day, gandha or banhutsava.
• Second day is called bhardoul.
• Last day is called phakua or suweri.

It is not a surprise that Assam is rich in folk music. From the time of the Kamarupa Kingdom followed by Ahom Dynasty, Assamese culture has been influenced by each of its rulers except the British rule which ended the Ahom Dynasty. The indigenous folk music has influenced the folk music of artists like Bhupen Hazarika, Parvati Prasad Baruva, Jayanta Hazarika, Utpalendu Choudhury, Nirmalendu Choudhury and many others. Classical Assamese music is divided into Borgeet and Ojapali which combines narrative singing with dancing. The music of Oja-pali has a raga system of clear traditional orientation.

• The Assamese use bamboo to welcome guests because of their attachment to the bamboo culture. Known as Jaapi, this is basically known as the sunshade of Assam. It is made of bamboo strips and dried palm leaves locally known as Tokow Pat. There are many types of Jaapi like the Halua Jaapi, Pitha Jaapi, Sorudoiya Jaapi, Bordoiya Jaapi, Cap etc. These Jaapis were also used as headwear back in the olden days, mostly by rich and noble families. They are also used by farmers and peasants as umbrellas in the paddy fields.
• People of Assam always believed in the joint family system and it is still prevalent among both tribal and non-tribal communities. The rule that was followed for inheritance was called Dayabhaga. This system holds strong even today. The custom is that a child cannot claim his share in the property of the father as long as the father lives.
• Some of the tribes follow customs like the matriarchal system, which asserts that the mother is the center of the clan and that her property will be given to her daughters. If there are no daughters, it will be passed to the youngest daughter of her sister. The prevalent custom among the Dimasa-Kacharis is that the sons inherit the father's property while the daughters inherit the mother's property.

Holi is a widely celebrated event in India and Nepal. The festival of colours, which takes place in March, is known as the Festival of Colours. Holi is celebrated over three days, with Holi Purnama (full moon day) being the first. Puno’s second day, or Choti Holi. Parva, or Holi Day, is the third day of the festival. People used to wear white dresses and congregate on the ground on this day. For this festival, they use natural colours and play with painting guns. They drink sweet lassi and eat sweets like gunjiya , khoya , mawa , and pistachio-based desserts .

Eventually, the tale and legend of Holi date back to the time of Hiranyakashyap, the Demon King. He had his sister Holika go into a burning fire with Prahaladha in an attempt to make his son worship him instead of Lord Vishnu. Holika could be resistant to flames and fire. Holika then turned into ashes when she moved ahead into the burning fire with Prahaladha, but Lord Vishnu saved Prahaladha as Holika’s curse would have only worked if she had joined the fire by herself, i.e. alone. Since then, this day is known as Holi in India, and it symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. During this festival, people lit a bonfire to commemorate Holika’s death. People spend their evenings with friends and family sharing treats and greetings after a day of excitement. Holi is said to instil a sense of brotherhood in everyone’s minds, and even rivals are reconciled on this day. The festival day begins with the preparation of a variety of delicacies. People paint each other with gulal, watercolours, and water balloons. The best thing about this day is that everybody decides to let go of his shyness and join in on the fun. They give each other hugs and wish each other a ‘Happy Holi.’ Many housing societies host Holi celebrations on their lawns. Bright and beautiful colours such as yellow, green, red, pink, grey, and violet are used to cover the entire lawn. It’s difficult to tell who is who because everybody is dressed in different colours. Holi is a Hindu festival of love and happiness celebrated in the month of Phalgun, which corresponds to March in the Gregorian calendar or sometime in the last week of February, with Hindus all around the world embracing a new life of fullness, prosperity, hope and love and a life together. It also corresponds to the wheat harvest and represents wealth and happiness. The spring season marks the end of winter and the beginning of summer; as a result, the spring climate is particularly pleasant, especially when the flowers are abundant. As a result, Holi is observed as a festival of colours to honour nature’s spring beauty and a prosperous harvest. The most popular legend says that King Hiranyakaship argued with his son Prahlad because the latter insisted on worshipping Lord Vishnu . The king got annoyed by this and decided to kill his son.

Hiranyakashyap asked his nephews to throw Prahlad into the fire as he was a threat to his kingdom. His nephews were loyal to him, so they threw Prahlad into the fire after tying him to a piece of wood. However, Holika , Hiranyakashyap’s sister, saved him by sitting on the burning pyre with him.

• চ’ত বিহু: চ’তৰ নিশা ডেকা-গাভৰুৱে বিহুৰ আখৰা কৰে আৰু আখৰা কৰা প্ৰথম নিশাটোয়ে হ’ল চ’ত বিহু।
• ৰাতি বিহু: চ’ত বিহুৰ আখৰাৰ পৰৱৰ্তী বিহু মৰা নিশাবোৰক ৰাতি বিহু বুলি কোৱা হয়।
• গৰু বিহু: চ’তৰ সংক্ৰান্তিৰ দিনা গৰুক গা ধুৱাই নতুন পঘাৰে বন্ধা হয়। গধূলি ধূপ-ধূনা আদি দিয়া হয়।
• মানুহ বিহু বা চেনেহী বিহু: এক ব’হাগৰ দিনাখন এই বিহু পতা হয়। এই বিহুটোক আপোনজনে আপোনজনক বিহুৱান দিয়ে। বিহুগীত, হুঁচৰি গীত গাই অতি আনন্দ কৰে।
• কুটুম বিহু: ব’হাগৰ দ্বিতীয় দিনটো কুটুম বিহু। এই দিনা জী-জোঁৱাইসকল মাকহঁতৰ ঘৰলৈ যায়। ইষ্ট-কুটুম্বই পৰস্পৰে পৰস্পৰক আদৰ আৰু সেৱা-সত্কাৰ কৰে।
• মেলা বিহু বা হাট বিহু: এই বিহুৰ দিনা পথাৰৰ মাজত এডাল গছক প্ৰতীক হিচাপে লৈ তাৰ তলত গাভৰুসকলে বিহু নাচে। গছ জোপালৈ বিহুৱান, তামোল-পাণ আদি আগবঢ়ায়। শিমলুগুৰি, নাহৰকটীয়া, টেঙাখাট আদি অঞ্চলত এই বিহু দেখা যায়।
• চেৰা বিহু বা এৰা বিহু: বহাগ বিহুত ডেকা-গাভৰুৱে নাচি-বাগি ভাগৰি পৰে আৰু সপ্তম দিনা অতি আদৰৰ বিহুটিক সমাপ্ত ঘটায়। সেই দিনাখন বিহুৱানবোৰ পুনৰ ধুই বিহুক বিদায় দিয়ে। Bohag Bihu in Assamese

প্ৰথম বিহুটিৰ নাম গৰু বিহু। এই দিনা গৰুৰ শিঙত তেল দি ধুৱাই-পখলাই লাও-বেঙেনা খুৱায় আৰু তাৰে মালাও পিন্ধায়। গাঁৱৰ আটাইবিলাক গৰু ওচৰৰ নদী , বিল বা আন তেনে ঠাইলৈ নি সকলোৱে গৰু ধুৱাই আৰু তলৰ গীতটো গাই গাই দীঘলতী,  মাখিয়তী  আদি গছৰ ডালেৰে কোবাই

দীঘলতিৰ দীঘল পাত, গৰু কোবাওঁ জাত জাত। মাৰ সৰু বাপেৰ সৰু, তই হবি বৰ গৰু। লাও খা বেঙেনা খা, বছৰে বছৰে বাঢ়ি যা।

সিদিনাই মানুহে মাহ, হালধি, আমৰ মল আৰু দৈৱজ্ঞই আগতে দি যোৱা সৰ্বৌষধিৰে গা ধোৱে। এইদৰে গা ধুলে অপায়-অমঙ্গল দূৰ হয় বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰা হয়। দুপৰীয়া নামঘৰত নাম-কীৰ্তন কৰা হয়। গধূলি গৰুক নতুন পঘা দিয়ে আৰু লাড়ু পিঠা খুৱায়।

দ্বিতীয় দিনা বৰ বিহু বা মানুহৰ বিহু। সিদিনাও নামঘৰত সামুহিকভাৱে নাম-কীৰ্তন কৰা হয়। সাধাৰণতে বৰ বিহুৰ দিনা বিহুৱান লোৱা হয়। এই বিহুৱান নিজৰ লগতে পৰিয়ালৰ অন্যান্য অঙহী-বঙহী ইষ্ট-কুটুম্ব আৰু মৰমৰ জনকো দিয়া হয়। ইও এক ধৰণৰ পৰম্পৰা। ব’হাগ বিহুত খোৱা-বোৱাতকৈ ৰং-ধেমালিৰ ওপৰত বেছি গুৰত্ব দিয়া হয়। ডেকা-ডেকেৰী সকলে বিহু-উৎসৱ পাতি বিহুগীত, বিহু নাচ, হুঁচৰি, নানা ৰকমৰ খেল-ধেমালিৰ ব্যৱস্থা কৰে। লগতে মানুহৰ ঘৰে ঘৰে গৈ হুঁচৰি গাই গৃহস্থক আৰ্শীবাদ দিয়ে। আনহাতে কোনো কোনো ঠাইত শেন-কনুৱাৰ যুঁজ, ম’হ যুঁজ, কণী যুঁজ আদি খেল-ধেমালিৰো ব্যৱস্থা আছে।

আগৰ কালত চ’ত মাহৰ আৰম্ভণিৰ পৰাই ডেকা গাভৰু মিলি ‘ ৰাতি বিহু’ পতাৰ পৰম্পৰা আছিল। বৰ্তমান এই প্ৰথা প্ৰায় নোহোৱা হৈছে। ৰাতি বিহু কেৱল ডেকা গভৰুৰ বিহু। ডেকা গাভৰু মিলি ৰাতি ৰাতি আছুতীয়া ঠাইত বিহু নাচ, বিহু গীতৰে ইজনে সিজনক প্ৰেম নিবেদন কৰিছিল আৰু বিহু তলিৰ পৰাই বহুতে সাংসাৰিক জীৱন আৰম্ভ কৰিছিল। অৱশ্যে বৰ্তমান আধুনিক সভ্যতাৰ পৰশত এই বিলাক প্ৰথা একেবাৰে লোপ পাই গৈছে, কেৱল কেইটামান জনগোষ্ঠীৰ মাজত ‘গছ তলৰ বিহু’ নামৰে এই ৰাতি বিহুৰ অলপ পৰিবৰ্তিত ৰূপ প্ৰচলিত হৈ আছে। এই ৰাতি বিহুৰ শেষ হৈছিল গৰু বিহুৰ উৰুকাৰ দিনা।

এই বিহু নৃত্য আৰু গীত কেৱল মহিলাসকলৰ দ্বাৰা পৰিৱেশন কৰা হয়। পূৰ্বতে গাঁৱত মহিলাসকলে এনে বিহু নৃত্য পৰিৱেশন কৰোঁতে তাৰ চাৰিওফালে বাঁহৰ কিছুমান “জেং” গুজি লৈছিল। সেয়ে সময়ত ইয়াক “জেং বিহু” বুলি নামকৰণ কৰা হয়। ইয়াক  গছ তলৰ বিহু  বুলিও জনা যায়।

ব’হাগ বিহুৰ লোকবিশ্বাস

ব’হাগ বিহু বা ৰঙালী বিহু সম্পৰ্কীয় ভালেমান লোকবিশ্বাস পোৱা যায়। চ’তৰ সংক্ৰান্তি অৰ্থাৎ গৰু বিহুৰ দিনাখনৰপৰাই সাদিনীয়া বহাগ বিহু আৰম্ভ হয়। গৰু বিহুৰ দিনাখন ৰাতিপুৱাই গৰুক মাহ-হালধি তেল সানি গা ধুৱাই নতুন পঘা আঁৰি দি দীঘলতি-মাখিয়তি পাতেৰে গৰুৰ গাত কোবোৱাৰ অন্তৰালত উৰ্বৰা বিশ্বাস জড়িত হৈ আছে। গধূলি পদূলিৰপৰা গোহালিলৈকে শুকান ধান খেৰ, তুঁহ, দীঘলতি, মাখিয়তি পাত আদি জ্বলাই ধোঁৱাময় কৰি তোলা হয়। এই ধোঁৱাই গোহালিৰ মহ-ডাঁহ আঁতৰোৱাৰ উপৰি অপদেৱতাক খেদি পঠায় বুলি সহজ-সৰল চহালোকে বিশ্বাস কৰি আহিছে। ঠাই বিশেষে সাপ আদিৰপৰা ঘৰচীয়া জীৱ-জন্তুক ৰক্ষা কৰিবলৈ সেইদিনা গোহালিৰ চাৰিওকাষে নহৰু বটা পানীত ছটিওৱা হয়। গোটেই বছৰটোৰ বাবে গৰু-ছাগলীৰ ডিঙিত বগা, ৰঙা সূতা মেৰিয়াই দিয়া হয়।

অঞ্চল অনুযায়ী গৰু বিহুৰ দিনাখন গৰুক বিচনীৰ বিচ দিয়াৰ পিছতেহে মানুহে বিচনীৰ বা লয় আৰু এনে কৰিলে গোটেই বছৰটো শৰীৰ জুৰ পৰি থাকে বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰা হয়। বিহুৰ প্ৰথম দিনা কিছুমানলোকে স্নানাদি কৰোঁতে সৰ্বশুদ্ধি ব্যৱহাৰ কৰাৰ উপৰি ব্ৰাহ্মণ-জ্যোতিষাদিৰ কথানুষাৰে অনাগত বছৰটোত যাতে নিৰোগী হৈ থাকিব পাৰে সেই বিশ্বাসতে ৰাশি অনুযায়ী চেনি, নিমখ, মৌ, গাখীৰ আদি খায়। ‘বিহুত বিহোঁ অমৃত হয়’ বুলি এষাৰ কথা আছে। সেয়েই হয়তো কোনো কোনো অঞ্চলত স্বাস্থ্য ভালে থাকিবৰ বাবে গধূলি শোকোতা তিতা, কল পচলা, টেঙা আদিও খায়। এনে কৰিলে বছৰটোত সাপে খোঁটাৰ ভয় নাই বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰে। অঞ্চল বিশেষে গৰু বিহু, মানুহ বিহু বা সাতবিহুৰ যি কোনো এদিনত এশ এবিধ শাক খোৱাৰ নিয়ম আছে। কিছুমানে ইয়াক সাত শাকেতী বা সাথেক তোলা বা সাত শাক তোলা বিহু বোলে। এশ এবিধ শাকৰ যি ব্যঞ্জন তৈয়াৰী কৰা হয় সেয়া ৰোগৰ মহৌষধ। ‘সাত বিহুৰ শাক শুকতি দেহাত দেই বল’ বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰি এশ এবিধ নহ’লেও সাতবিধ বা নবিধ শাক তোলে।

ঠাই বিশেষে গৰু বিহু বা মানুহ বিহুৰ দিনাখন ধুমুহা বৰষুণৰ পৰা হাত সাৰিবলৈ শিৱক সন্তুষ্টি কৰি নাহৰৰ পাতত মংগলসূচক বচন লিখি ঘৰৰ ছালৰ পানীপচাত খুচি থোৱা হয়-‘‘দেৱ দেৱ মহাদেৱ নীলগ্ৰীৱ জটাধৰ/বাত বৃষ্টি হৰং দেৱ মহাদেৱ নমস্তুতে’’। অসমীয়া মানুহৰ মনত শিৱ কৃষি দেৱতা। সেয়েই হয়তো প্ৰথম বিহুৰ দিনাই ৰাতিপুৱা কামৰূপৰ কোনো কোনো অঞ্চলত বাঁহৰ আগ আৰু ভাং-ধতুৰাৰ গছ খেতি-পথাৰত পুতি থয়। জনবিশ্বাস মতে এনেদৰে শিৱৰ প্ৰিয় ভাং-ধতুৰাৰ গছ পুতি শিৱক সন্তুষ্ট কৰিলে খেতি ভাল হয়। পহিলা বহাগ বা মানুহ বিহুৰ দিনা গা ধুই গোসাঁইক সেৱা কৰি বিহুৱান লয় আৰু পিছত সৰুৱে মান্যজনক সেৱা-সৎকাৰ কৰি আশীৰ্বাদ লয় যাতে আগন্তুক বৰ্ষটো ভালে ভালে যাব পাৰে।

‘অতিকৈ চেনেহৰ বহাগৰ বিহুটি’ অহাৰ আগতেই অৰ্থাৎ চ’ত মাহ সোমোৱাৰ লগে লগেই অসমীয়া জীয়াৰী-বোৱাৰীৰ ‘চেনেহৰ বিহুৱান’খনি বৈ-কাটিবলৈ গাত ত’ত নাইকিয়া হয়। কিয়নো বিহুৰ পিছত ব’বলৈ থোৱা কোনো কাপোৰ বা বিহুৱান কোনো পুৰুষক দিয়া নহয়। বিশ্বাস ‘বিহুচেৰা’ বস্ত্ৰ পৰিধান কৰিলে লওঁতাৰ মৃত্যু কাষ চাপি আহে। অঞ্চল বিশেষে বিহুৰ সাতদিন পুৰুষে গাত তেল নলয়, সাতদিনৰ খোৱা পিঠা-পনা, লাৰু আদি থাকিলেও বিহুচেৰাৰ দিনা পেলাই দিয়া হয়। যদি বহাগ বিহুৰ মাহটো মলমাহ পৰে তেতিয়া নিজৰ অশুভ হ’ব বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰি কোনো নতুন কাপোৰ বা বিহুৱান গ্ৰহণ কৰা নহয়। বহাগ বিহুৰ সময়ত হুঁচৰি গোৱা আশীৰ্বাদ ল’লে স্বৰ্গত স্থান পায় বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰে। সেয়েহে অনাখৰী কবিয়ে গায়- ‘‘গৰু বিহু দিনাখন- ল’বা আশীৰ্বাদ/তেহে পাবা বৈকুণ্ঠত থান”। Bohag Bihu in Assamese

বিহুৰ খেল ধেমালি

বহাগ বিহু ৰং-ধেমালিৰ উৎসৱ। বিহু-বলিয়া ডেকা-গাভৰুৱে সেয়েই বহাগ বিহুত নানান খেল-ধেমালি কৰা দেখা যায়। তাৰ ভিতৰত কড়িখেল উল্লেখযোগ্য। কড়ি প্ৰজননৰ প্ৰতীক। কড়িখেলত যদি কোনো পুৰুষৰ কড়ি ফুটে তেন্তে সেই সেই পুৰুষৰ ভাগ্যোদয় হয় আৰু জিকিলে অবিবাহিতজনৰ বিবাহৰ যোগ মিলে বুলি কোনো কোনোৱে বিশ্বাস কৰে।

বিহুত শাক খোৱাৰ পৰম্পৰা

অসমীয়া সমাজত গৰু বিহুৰ দিনা এশ এবিধ শাক আৰু সাত বিহুৰ দিনা সাতবিধ শাক খোৱাৰ পৰম্পৰা আছে। গৰু বিহুৰ দিনা যি এশ এবিধ শাক খোৱাৰ পৰম্পৰা আছে তাত বিভিন্ন শাক-পাচলি, তৰু-লতা-তৃণ আদি অন্তৰ্ভুক্ত কৰা হয়। এই শাক-পাচলিবোৰত টেঙা, কেঁহা, তিতা গুণৰ সমাহাৰ হয়। স্বাভাৱিকতে এই সমূহ ঔষধি গুণ সম্পন্ন। অসমীয়া সমাজত খাদ্য প্ৰণালী সম্পৰ্কে বিভিন্ন নীতি-নিয়ম আছে। সেইদিনা গ্ৰহণ কৰা এশ এবিধ শাকত কোনো খাদ্যৰ অশুভ প্ৰতিক্ৰিয়া নাথাকে আৰু নিঃসংকোচে প্ৰত্যেকে ইয়াক গ্ৰহণ কৰে। বিহুৰ প্ৰথম দিনা ঔষধি গুণসম্পন্ন শাকপাত খাই অসমীয়া মানুহে বছৰটোলৈ বল বান্ধে। Bohag Bihu in Assamese

होली पर निबंध (Essay on Holi in Hindi):  होली भारतीय संस्कृति का एक प्रमुख धार्मिक पर्व है। यह पर्व फागुन मास के शुक्ल पक्ष में मनाया जाता है और भारत वर्ष में खुशी, आनंद, प्रेम और एकता का प्रतीक है। होली एक सांस्कृतिक महोत्सव है जिसमें लोग अपनी पूर्वाग्रहों और विभिन्न सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठानों को छोड़कर आपसी भाईचारा और प्रेम का आनंद लेते हैं। यह पर्व विभिन्न आदतों, परंपराओं और धार्मिक आराधनाओं के साथ मनाया जाता है और भारतीय समाज के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण और आनंदमय अवसर है।

होली का त्यौहार कैसे मनाया जाता है?

विश्व के अलग-अलग कोने में अलग-अलग तरह से होली खेली जाती है कहीं फूल भरी होली खेली जाती है तो कहीं लठमार होली तो कहीं होली का नाम ही अलग होता है। होली खेलने का तरीका भले ही सबका अलग अलग हो लेकिन होली हर जगह रंगों के साथ ज़रूर खेली जाती है। होलिका दहन के लिए बड़कुल्ले बनाना, होली की पूजा करना, पकवान बनाना, होलिका का दहन करना इत्यादि किया जाता है।

पकवान बनाने के बाद घर के सभी लोग उसे एक थाली में सजाकर होलिका दहन वाली जगह जाते हैं। इसके अलावा वे अपने साथ बड़कुल्ले और पूजा का अन्य सामान भी लेकर जाते हैं जिसमें कच्चा कुकड़ा (सूती धागा), लौटे में जल, चंदन इत्यादि सम्मिलित हैं। फिर उस जगह पहुंचकर होली की पूजा की जाती हैं, पकवान का भोग लगाया जाता हैं और बड़कुल्लों को उस ढेर में रख दिया जाता हैं। उसके बाद सभी लोग कच्चे कुकड़े को उस गोल घेरे के चारों और बांधते हैं और भगवान से प्रह्लाद की रक्षा की प्रार्थना करते हैं। पूजा करने के पश्चात सभी अपने घर आ जाते हैं। 

रात में सूर्यास्त होने के बाद पंडित जी वहां की पूजा करते हैं। सभी लोग उस स्थल पर एकत्रित हो जाते हैं। उसके बाद उन लकड़ियों में अग्नि लगा दी जाती हैं। अग्नि लगाते ही, उस ढेर के बीच में रखे मोटे बांस (प्रह्लाद) को बाहर निकाल लिया जाता हैं। होलिका दहन को देखने के लिए लोग अपने घर से पानी का लौटा, कच्चा कुकड़ा, हल्दी की गांठ व कनक के बाल लेकर जाते हैं। पानी से होली को अर्घ्य दिया जाता है। दूर से उस अग्नि को कच्चा कुकड़ा, हल्दी की गांठ और कनक के बाल दिखाए जाते हैं। कुछ लोग होलिका दहन के पश्चात उसकी राख को घर पर ले जाते हैं।

इन सब के बाद शुरू होता हैं असली रंगों का त्यौहार। सभी लोग अपने मित्रों, रिश्तेदारों, जान-पहचान वालों के साथ होली का त्यौहार खेलते हैं। पहले के समय में केवल प्राकृतिक रंगों से ही होली खेलने का विधान था लेकिन आजकल कई प्रकार के रंगों से होली खेली जाती हैं।

इसी के साथ लोग फूलों, पानी, गुब्बारों से भी होली खेलते हैं। कई जगह लट्ठमार होली खेली जाती हैं तो कहीं पुष्प वर्षा की जाती हैं। कई जगह कपड़ा-फाड़ होली खेलते हैं तो कई लड्डुओं की होली भी खेलते है। यह राज्य व लोगों के अनुसार भिन्न-भिन्न प्रकार की होती हैं। बस रंग हर जगह उड़ाए जाते हैं।

होली  का इन्तजार लोगो को पुरे साल भर रहता है। लेकिन कई बार होली पर बहुत सी दुर्घटनाएं भी हो जाती है जिसका ध्यान रखना चाहिए। लोगों द्वारा होली के दिन गुलाल का प्रयोग न कर के केमिकल और कांच मिले रंगों का प्रयोग किया जाता है। जिससे चेहरा खराब हो जाता है कई लोग मादक पदार्थों का सेवन व भाग मिला कर नशा करते हैं जिससे कई लोग दुर्घटना का शिकार भी हो जाते हैं। ऐसे ही होली के दिन बच्चे गुब्बारों में पानी भर कर गाड़ियों के ऊपर फेंकते हैं या पिचकारी और रंगो को आँखों में फेंक के मरते हैं होली में ऐसे रंगों व हरकतों को न करें जिससे किसी व्यक्ति के जीवन पर बुरा प्रभाव पड़ें इसलिए होली के दिन सावधानीपूर्वक रंगो को खेलिये जिससे किसी के लिए हानिकारक न हो।

सुरक्षित तरीके से होली खेलने के सुझाव 

होली का त्योहार (Holi Festival) ऐसा त्योहार है, जिसमें सभी लोग इसके रंग में डूबे नजर आते हैं, लेकिन इसकी मौज-मस्ती आपको इन बातों का भी विशेष ख्याल रखना चाहिए ताकि इस प्यार भरे उत्सव का मजा किरकिरा न हो।

• होली खेलने से पहले अपने पूरे शरीर और बालों पर अच्छी तरह तेल और मॉइश्चराइजर लगा लें। ताकि रंग आसानी से छूट जाएं।
• होली खेलने के लिए नैचुरल और ऑर्गेनिक रंगों का इस्तेमाल करें, कैमिकल भरे रंगों के इस्तेमाल से बचें। क्योंकि कैमिकल वाले रंगों की वजह से कई बार स्किन एलर्जी तक हो जाती है।
• होली में ज्यादा पानी को बर्बाद न करें।
• होली पर फुल कपड़े पहनने की कोशिश करें, ताकि कलर ज्यादा स्किन पर न आए।
• होली में किसी पर जबरदस्ती कलर नहीं डालें और ध्यान रखें कि मौज-मस्ती में किसी को चोट न आए।
• होली की मौज-मस्ती में बच्चों का विशेष ख्याल रखें, कई बार ज्यादा समय तक पानी में गीले रहने से बच्चे बीमार भी पड़ जाते हैं

होली रंग का त्योहार है, जिसे मस्ती और आनंद के साथ मनाया जाता है। होली में पानी और रंग में भीगने के लिए तैयार रहें, लेकिन खुद को और दूसरों को नुकसान न पहुंचाने के लिए भी सावधान रहें। अपने दिमाग को खोलें, अपने अवरोधों को बहाएं, नए दोस्त बनाएं, दुखी लोगों को शांत करें और टूटे हुए रिश्तों को जोड़ें। चंचल बनें लेकिन दूसरों के प्रति भी संवेदनशील रहें। किसी को भी अनावश्यक रूप से परेशान न करें और हमेशा अपने आचरण की देखरेख करें। इस होली में केवल प्राकृतिक रंगों से खेलने का संकल्प लें।
