The following conclusions were drawn: 1. Management of church affaris under the four administrative church councils appears to be less than effective. 2. Professional local church leadership appears to be weak. 3. Strategies regarding recruitment of missionaries and mission finances appear weak. 4. The ECWA appears to lack both an acceptable criteria and specified groups for evaluation of theological programs. 5. Better financial management is one of ECWA's major areas of need. 6. Written personel guidelines and job descriptions are a critical need in ECWA church administration. 7. The need for effective communication may be one of the major problems facing ECWA.

Spivey, Emily J. "Exploring the role of Emotional Intelligence in the effectiveness of lead church planters." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2014. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=1562962.

This mixed quantitative/qualitative study explored the role that Emotional Intelligence (EI) plays in the leadership of church planters in Restoration Movement Churches in the U.S. (specifically Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ) and the relationship between the EI profiles of lead church planters and healthy church growth patterns, according to attendance and financial data 3 years after being planted. This study found that EI plays both a causal role and correlates strongly with healthy church growth within the first 3 years of a new church plant's life. As the first study of its kind among a Restoration Movement sample of church planters, this study assists church planting organizations in identifying and training new church leaders, as well as ongoing leadership development and coaching of individuals who have been called to be church planters.

Toston, Shaunte'. "Work life balance of women leaders in the Church of God in Christ." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2014. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3635360.

The purpose of this study is to isolate how the successful Church of God in Christ women leaders combine work, church and family life. This study explores the experiences that mold the life course of women and how they affect work-family life balance. The goal is to extract these strategies and provide them to other women interested in pursuing leadership roles in the church and in their careers all while balancing family life. Qualitative data was analyzed to find coping strategies, and themes.

Giele (2008) developed the life course theoretical framework used in this study. She discussed the framework in her article entitled “Homemaker of Career Women: Life Course Factors and Racial Influences Among Middle Class Families.” Giele’s (2008) study focused on 48 women. After interviewing these women, Giele categorized these interviews in to 4 categories of questions, which are as follows: childhood, adulthood, current adulthood and future adulthood. Exploring these categories provide an inside look at each woman’s perception of their identity, relationship types, motivations and adaptive styles.

In 2011, Dr. Margaret Weber and her team duplicated Giele’s study but later decided to add an additional set of questions to the semi-structured questionnaire. These additional questions were created to allow women an opportunity to share their coping strategies which can be used to inform others. The additional questions also help to complete the life course process and inform others (Weber, 2011).

This dissertation research is based on Giele’s (2008) study and enhanced by Weber’s (2011) additional set of questions. The life course framework helps to analyze the narratives of women and to isolate data pertaining to work-life balance. This phenomenological study strives to understand all contributors impacting this balance.

Adams, Anthony Wayne. "Shepherd leadership of Church of God pastors and how this relates to ministerial effectiveness." Thesis, University of Phoenix, 2013. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3570373.

A Shepherd’s responsibility is to care for and guide sheep in such a way that they (sheep) can effectively and proficiently perform the duties that are natural and necessary to sheep. The same is true with leaders and managers as it relates to their followers. This quantitative correlational research study was conducted to discover whether the biblical shepherd leadership model, particularly its characteristics, practices, and responsibilities (CPR), were related to successful church growth. A 45-item Likert type survey was used to ascertain the level of shepherd leadership of 106 pastors in the Church of God in Michigan. This score was then compared with statistical information found in the treasurers and ministry reports namely, attendance, tithe, and conversions that took place at these pastors’ local churches within a five year period. The results of the study showed a statistical positive association between shepherd leadership and the attendance and financial data. The data also showed a negative association between shepherd leadership and conversions. These findings will be helpful to pastors, educators, and church leaders to be more effective in ministry.

A tremendous opportunity exists for church and business leaders to work together to bridge an ever-widening gap in both dialogue and understanding of the needs of believers on the front-lines of workplace service. Church leaders are anointed and responsible for equipping believers for ministry in all spheres of life, including service in the marketplace (Eph. 4:13). Church and business professionals need each other; however, due to realities such as the sacred-secular divide and unbiblical working definitions of "ministry" and "vocation," countless numbers of believers have a bifurcated, compartmentalized view of life and vocation. Research reveals that the vast majority of believers do not view their work as an expression of worship to God and service to others.

Phase one of this project involves research in the form of fifteen interviews with church and business leaders to understand their worldviews so as to better appreciate the factors contributing to the gap. Phase two involves the creation of a Workplace Roundtable Curriculum informed by the interviews and then piloted with church and business leaders at three Roundtable discussions.

The interviews and Roundtables yielded rich and thoughtful discussions about "whole-life discipleship" and revealed that participants believe workplace discussions are productive and worthwhile. These discussions help facilitate a greater understanding of the sacred-secular divide and its negative, damaging effects on believers, as well as a deeper appreciation of the biblical meaning of "ministry" and "vocation."

This introductory study was initiated by the observation that authors about the church differ in their understanding of and approach to church and ἐκκλησία. An analysis of some authors reveals at least three main trends of ecclesiological approach that have an important influence on church missiology. The study concludes with the definition of important areas of study in both ecclesiology and missiology that can lead to a productive interaction between the modern day church and contemporary forms of ἐκκλησία as described in the New Testament.

Edward Seely: How Can Churches Facilitate Education Leading to Maturity in Jesus Christ Worldwide?

This PowerPoint presentation on the fifth of the six loci (Biblical doctrines) of historic Christian systematic theology, Ecclesiology, is an Overview, an abbreviated version, of that section in the accompanying larger and unabridged PowerPoint (PPT) program, “Essential Christianity: Historic Christian Systematic Theology—With a Focus on Its Very Practical Dimensions, Including God’s Answers to Our Great Questions of Life—for Now and Eternity.” Ask the class to read the larger, unabridged, version; this Overview; or at least the accompanying Abridged Overview with highlighting prior to the class session. Provide opportunities for discussion of any of the subjects in the unabridged version, the Overview, or Abridged Overview, and/or related subjects, especially contemporary implications and applications of the Biblical content. The large unabridged, the Overview, and the Abridged Overview PPTs of Ecclesiology are for the seventh session of a nine-week course for adults and advanced youth classes (i.e., for all young people who want to seriously study the basis and content of their faith—the essence and most important part of their emerging adult identity—as formed by Biblical theology), which offer an introductory overview of historic Christian systematic theology with an emphasis on its many practical applications. This PPT introduces the doctrine of Ecclesiology, the doctrine of the church, the fifth of the six doctrines, or loci, of systematic theology. This locus (doctrine) answers these related and linked questions: What or who is the church; and What is its purpose? For further information on each subject in this course, the teachers and students can access the unabridged PPT, "Essential Christianity: Historic Christian Systematic Theology," on the Christian Theology page of the author’s general Website at https://fromacorntooak12.com/ or on his academic Website at https://seelyedward.academia.edu/research. Each of the PowerPoint presentations is written in an expanded sentence outline format in order to provide a stand-alone resource for teachers, students, and others, including those using it for independent study and/or devotional purposes. Week nine is for a review and discussion of matters the class wants to address. See also the related loci, doctrines, on this Website.

Aaron Jameson

The idea of church is misunderstood by most, abused by some, and usually somewhat imbalanced by the rest. What we believe and confess about Theology Proper, as well as other doctrines, informs and shapes our ecclesiology, not merely in theory but also in practice. This paper seeks to defend a particularly baptist (as opposed to paedobaptist, as well as presbyterian, catholic, or orthodox) ecclesiology stemming from a Trinitarian view of Theology Proper.
