Job Summary:

Reporting to the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) Manager, and in compliance with clinical trial regulations, CRNM and CANO standards of nursing practice, the Research Nurse screens potentially eligible CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) patients/clients for clinical trial eligibility, ensures that the initial and ongoing consent process is performed and documented, organizes study-specific treatment plans and monitors the ongoing progress of patients enrolled in a clinical trial.   In collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team, the Research Nurse participates in patient/family education and counselling, making pertinent nursing assessments and provides appropriate interventions as per the study-specific protocol.  The Research Nurse promotes a culture of research within the organization.  Some overtime may be required.   Please note that the successful incumbent will be required to work out of CCMB locations where CTU trials are active

Qualifications:

• Diploma in Nursing
• Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or willing to obtain
• Minimum 3 years oncology experience
• Experience with cancer treatment modalities
• Evidence of excellent communication, organization and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
• Demonstrated ability to provide patient-focused care
• Demonstrated professional and ethical behaviour in the workplace
• Demonstrated attention to accuracy and detail
• Satisfactory employment record
• Must be legally able to work in Canada
• Baccalaureate of Nursing (BN)
• Certified in Oncology Nursing Canada, CON(C)
• Clinical research experience with the adult and/or pediatric population
• Experience with a variety of cancer sites
• Ambulatory oncology clinic experience
• Commitment to ongoing professional development, leadership and self development e.g ONDEC
• Ability to speak French
