This sample response paper presents a university student's personal reaction to an article about whether medication is prescribed too often to young children to treat psychological disorders. The title page demonstrates the simple default layout for a student paper. The paper has a simple setup with only a title page, body of text, and references. No "running head"! Response papers typically do not include author notes or abstracts, though this may vary by assignment.

Please download the following template to begin your thesis/dissertation. Formatting within the template is already set up for your convenience.
You will need to select the appropriate answer for all dropdown boxes on page 1. Ex. Thesis/Dissertation, Choose Degree, Choose Department, Choose Campus Location, Choose Graduation Term.
You will need to manually input your committee information on page 2. We ask that you only list your committee member's primary department. The name after "Approved by:" should match the name listed on your Form 9 as "Thesis Form Head".
Follow instructions within the template to complete the rest of your thesis/dissertation. Please be careful when making changes so that you do not override/change the template formatting.
Please contact us if your department is not listed, or with other questions.

How to Cite AI Tools in APA
If you intend to use and cite AI-generated content for course assignments, first consult with your instructor. Instructors have varying opinions about how or whether students may use ChatGPT or other Generative AI tools. Use the following format to cite ChatGPT. For detailed information on how to cite AI in APA style, please check this APA blog post, How to cite ChatGPT , created on April 7, 2023. To quote or reproduce the text generated by ChatGPT in your paper:

Thesis & Dissertation Overview
Welcome to the Purdue OWL
This page is brought to you by the OWL at Purdue University. When printing this page, you must include the entire legal notice.

When writing a long document such as a thesis or dissertation over a sustained time period, writers may find it difficult to stay motivated and make progress. Some institutions offer “dissertation retreats” or camps for helping writers make progress. An Intensive Writing Experience (IWE) is a similar event in which a writer makes a concerted effort both to make progress on a document and to become a better writer. The writer sets aside a predetermined amount of time in order to make progress on a particular writing project, such as a dissertation. The material here is meant to be used to conduct a Personal IWE that a writer can use when a group event such as a retreat or camp is not available.
This section contains detailed directions for setting up a Personal IWE. We've included vidcasts and handouts useful for a potential three-day event covering a variety of writing-related topics. Writers can view the vidcasts and read through the handouts and then apply what they have learned to their own writing. We suggest starting with the handout entitled “Conducting a Personal Intensive Writing Experience (IWE)”; this will provide details for structuring time and offers a schedule for the order of topics across a multi-day event.

Citing sources intext using APA-style can be confusing. The following text provides some examples. Additionally, the web links below provide some additional information on intext citations
Intext, or parenthetical references :
Use one of the following formats when citing a source in the context of a discussion board post, blog, or paper. The first two examples are if the idea of from the source is being paraphrased; the last two examples are if the source is directly quoted:
- Smith (2011) indicated that .......
- .............. (Smith, 2011).
- According to Smith (2011), ".............." (p.#).
- "...................." (Smith, 2011, p.#).
If you are including more than one citation in the parens ( ), the citations should be alphabetized and separated by a semicolon:
- (Abbot & Sims, 2011; Frank, 2014; Hapy & Gunter, 2014)
