Essay on Childhood Memories

Memories are one of the most crucial things we can cherish throughout our lives. They build up our personality as all our knowledge and previous experiences are stored there. Memories can be both good and bad. There are memories either from long ago or from the recent past. In our critical times, we may get some refreshment by recalling our memories. We can run our lives smoothly with the help of these memories. Memories help us in many ways. We can rectify ourselves from past mistakes. Childhood memories are treasured by all of us. They make us smile even in our old age.

Importance of Childhood Memory:

Childhood memories are very significant in our lives. We can recall the best times of our lives. Childhood memories build up our future and way of thinking. People with good childhood memories are happy people. On the other hand some bad childhood memories also affect the future of an individual.

The things a person learns during childhood remain as important lessons and memories for life. It applies to things like family and society values, morals, learning the importance of friendships and being respectful to adults. Without learning proper manners, people can become reckless and take unnecessary risks in life.

Childhood memories are also strongly related to good habits such as proper discipline and cultivating the proper attitude in life. These values, which are very important for success in adult life, cannot be learnt overnight at a later stage.

A childhood memory definitely does not define anyone but they play a pivotal role in one’s life. It is not necessary that a person with good memories always lives a prosperous life while a person with bad memories always lives a hazardous life. Sometimes, ghastly childhood memories make a man stronger.

Nevertheless, it can be said that the inner child is kept alive by childhood memories. There is always a child inside every person. It may come out all of a sudden at any stage in life. It may also be expressed every day in the little things that we enjoy doing.

Our inner child is especially seen when we meet our  childhood friends. Regardless of how grown up we think we are, we go back to kids the moment we are with old friends. Memories also take up the bulk of our conversation when we meet old friends after many years. The trip down memory lane is bittersweet as we long for a time we will not get back but also cherish its joy.

Some may be excited about seeing swings, some may act like a child when they see panipuri. The reason behind the facts is we are reminded by our childhood memories every time. The same happens when we enter the children’s play park and are reminded of our favourite rides. It is even more so when we ate ice cream or our favourite ice candy when we were 5 years old.  Hence, childhood memories play a very vital role in our lives.

My Childhood Memories:

I was born and brought up in a very adorable family. I have grown up with my elder brother with whom I used to play a lot. I remember each and every game we used to play together. Every moment is very precious to me. In the afternoon, we used to play cricket in our nearby ground. The memories of playing in the ground together are mesmerising.

Another beautiful thing I can remember is flying kites. It used to be one of the most exciting things of my childhood. Even the older members of the family participated with us. We used to fly kites on our terrace. The kite-flying programme would last for the entire day.

Another beautiful thing I can remember is my visit to the zoo with my family. We made one zoo visit every year. They used to be those very simple yet fun-filled family picnic moments. We would carry packed food from home that my mother used to cook. My elder brother would click several photographs of us. When I look at those pictures now, the memories come alive. Today, so many things have changed but my childhood memories are still fresh in my heart. It feels so refreshing to relive them again and again. My childhood memories are very close to my heart and make me smile on my difficult days.

Perhaps the time I remember very fondly was going to swimming classes. I have always loved playing in the water, and swimming in clear pools was always an exciting activity. Even though I loved the water, at first I could not swim as I was not aware of the basics of the sport. Slowly, as I learnt to kick and paddle, it became easier to swim in shallow water. The big test was swimming in deep water as it was a terrifying thought and simultaneously exciting. I still remember the day I decided to let go of my fears and dived into the deep end of the pool. The instant I jumped into the water, the fear was gone, and I swam like a fish to the other end of the pool. That day also taught me a valuable lesson about taking the first step in any daunting task.

Conclusion:

We should all cherish our childhood memories as they can always be our companion, our “bliss of solitude.” Simple things hold grave meaning when they are from their childhood days. The days were free of complexities and full of innocence. Hence, they are so close to heart.

FAQs on Childhood Memories Essay

1. How to write a childhood memory essay?

The most important thing you will need to write this essay is about great childhood memories! You will have to look back in time and remember all the good and bad things that happened to you. As you get older, your memories will also change in their context as you change as a person. Like all essays, this should also have a steady narrative of the events from your childhood. You can choose to write only about the best memories you have or choose to write them as they occur. Some of the best things to write are topics such as your friends, your favourite games, and all the vacations you have been on and all the experiences you had in school.

2. How would you describe your childhood memories?

The older you get, the more the bits and pieces of your memory begin to fade or change. The best way to write about your childhood memories is to close your eyes and remember them. Then you have to start writing the events as they occurred without giving them context. Once the essay is written, the stories and events can be arranged as per the requirements of the essay. You can choose to describe your memories in any light you feel.

3. Why are childhood memories important?

Our childhood memories have a significant influence on who we are. People with mostly happy memories tend to be more relaxed with a positive outlook on life. People who have had traumatic memories tend to be more cautious and cynical in life. People can still change with positive or negative experiences in life. However, our childhood influences stay with us for the rest of our lives and can sometimes even come into conflict with the better choices we want to make. Therefore having childhood memories is a good reference to understanding ourselves and why we behave in certain ways.

4. What could be a common childhood memory for everyone?

Everybody remembers their “first-time” experiences in life. It could be things like the first day of school, the first time visiting a zoo, the first time taking a flight in an aeroplane, having a bad experience, etc.

“For the last few years I lived here, I was the same height as I am now, so why am I astonished at the low hang of countertops, or that I can catch my reflection in the mirror that hangs high on the wall? Sometimes peering at that tired, but devilishly handsome, man in the mirror evokes the same, bittersweet feeling of vertigo you get from visiting your old primary school, as you stand 3ft higher than you’re supposed to, like some befuddled Lemuel Gulliver.”

In his essay, O’Reilly reflects on his time visiting his father in his childhood house. He recalls his memories inside the house alongside his son’s experiences today and how they are similar. He also explains how pleasant it is to be in the house again, as it evokes warm, cozy memories of his upbringing. While much has changed about the house, every visit remains as nostalgic as ever.

You might also find these essays about camping trips helpful.

“I always smile when I remember fishing with my Father. Many years have now since passed since those Saturday morning fishing trips. Time has taught me that the bond between Father and Son is what made those memories special to me. Now when I close my eyes I can remember those days since passed with joy and with a remembrance of the love I have for my Father.”

In this short essay, Dziegielewski describes memories of fishing with his father. He recalls every detail, from the fresh smell of the lake to the sound of a fishing bobber. Most importantly, however, he remembers how his father taught him the skill of fishing. This made him love his father, even more, allowing him to look back on these memories fondly.  You can also check out these essays about development .

“Water also drives many of our decisions — from the seafood we eat to our most romantic moments, and from where we live, to the sports we enjoy, and the ways we vacation and relax. We know instinctively that being by water makes us healthier, happier, reduces stress, and brings us peace.”

Bajaj recalls a memorable experience in which she dove into a deep pool after her mother had told her not to. She remembers the feelings of curiosity and excitement she felt and how despite her nearly drowning, she remembers that time happily. Reflecting on the memory, she also explains how water has helped her become more satisfied, peaceful, and happy. Our childhood memories shape us and provide us with the basis for the rest of our lives.

4.   I Would Have Liked Childhood More Without the Pressure to Grow Up by Jane Coaston

“I felt like I was given no time for trial and error. My choices were either to make the very selective local club soccer team or never play the sport again, be a genius or give up. Because being bad at anything was the worst possible sin I could imagine committing.”

Coaston writes about a more negative aspect of her childhood: the constant pressure to “not be a kid anymore.” She recalls several things expected of her, including having exceptional grades while being athletically gifted at the same time, with “no time for trial and error.” She feels everything was expected of her, and she did not have time to discover herself by making mistakes. She wishes parents would not rush their children along and let kids be kids for a while.  Check out these essays about growing up .

“I remember calling home once when I was spending the night at a friend’s house. I was homesick and just wanted to come back home. It was near midnight, but my mom drove over and picked me up. It was in these little moments that I especially felt loved. These were moments when I really needed my mom, and she was there for me. As a mother of a one-year-old now, I treasure these moments too.”

In her essay, Castleberry recalls her childhood memories involving her mother, including ones in which her mother entertained her and her friends and picked her up from a late night at a friend’s house. She remembers the small things her mother would do for her and how she was always there when she needed her. In raising her daughter, Castleberry strives to be the same mother that her mother was for her.

Structure of a Memories Essay

As of other essays, an essay on memories also has the same structure:

  • Introduction,
  • Conclusion.

Let’s briefly look at each of these sections.

The Introduction

It is the doorway to your essay. You start by establishing the context of your memories essay, which will act as a hook to your readers. A quote can do well in this case.

For example, “Cakes are special. Every birthday, every celebration ends with something sweet, a cake, and people remember. It’s all about the memories.” Buddy Valastro.

The quote above creates an interest in the reader’s mind and provokes them to poke further into the essay. An introduction ends with a thesis statement.

Example: “memories are truly add meaning to life.”

It carries the significant weight of the essay with supporting examples, facts, and even statistics. It is made up of body paragraphs directly relating to your memories essay thesis statement. The standard paragraph structure of a topic sentence, explanation, examples, and illustrations are followed.

Here is an example of a well-defined body paragraph:

“Those high school outings are my most treasured memories. I recall the moments we boarded the school bus and visit interesting places. I remember how amazing it was putting on my best shirt, set aside for that special occasion. Memories of how we would buy goodies in the mall before heading back to school still linger in my mind. That’s the best part of my school life. It never gave me a frown.”

The Conclusion

Here, you restate the thesis statement and make a summary statement of the memories discussed in the body. You can choose to also conclude with a quote such as the one below.

“Childhood is like being drunk. Everyone remembers what you did except you” Noor. H.

Childhood Memories Essay

  • 100 Words Essay On Childhood Memories

One of the most important things we can treasure throughout our life is our memories. They mould our personalities since they contain all of our information and experiences from the past. We all have memories, both positive and negative. Memories are the small things that make life flow more smoothly. They shape our personalities since they include all of our information and life experiences. The most wonderful and magnificent time of our lives is when we are children. It is that time in our lives when we were without sorrows and concerns. Our adult lives are greatly influenced by the recollections of our youth. They influence our future and way of thinking about the world.

200 Words Essay On Childhood Memories

500 words essay on childhood memories.

Childhood Memories Essay

Any person's heart has a special space for childhood memories. Childhood is the earliest stage of life, and what a child learns and observes from his or her family, teachers, and classmates will determine what that child learns in the future. Therefore, a child's future and memorable childhood are both the responsibility of parents and other family members.

As one gets older, they become more and more sentimental about their childhood, which is the best time in their lives. People often feel happy when they think back on their youth because it was the most carefree and enjoyable time of their lives.

When I was a kid, I loved spending time with my family. One of my favourite childhood memories is going to the park with my mom and dad.We would go on the swings, play in the sandbox, and go down the slide. It was always so much fun. Another great memory is going camping with my family. We would hike through the woods, roast marshmallows over the campfire, and tell stories around the fire. I loved spending time outdoors and exploring nature. I have so many great childhood memories, and I cherish them all. Spending time with my family was always the best part of my day. I'm so grateful for those memories and they will always be close to my heart.

When we reconnect with our childhood friends, our inner child is always present. No matter how mature we consider ourselves to be, the instant we are with old friends, we revert to being children. When we reunite with old friends after a long absence, memories also drive our conversations. The trip down memory lane is bittersweet because we miss a time that is gone but yet treasure its happiness. Some people might act like children when they see sweets, while others might become enthusiastic when they see swings. Similarly, visiting places that you used to frequent as a child brings back many emotions and memories associated with the place.

Importance of Childhood Memory

Our adult lives are profoundly impacted by our childhood recollections. The happiest moments in our lives come to mind. Our future and mentality are built on the experiences of our childhood. Happy people tend to have fond memories of their childhood. A person's future can also be impacted by unpleasant childhood experiences.

Childhood lessons serve as valuable life lessons and memories for the rest of one's life. It is relevant to issues like family and societal values, morals, understanding the significance of friendships, and treating adults with respect.

Childhood experiences have a profound impact on the development of virtues like self-control and a positive outlook on life. These principles, which are crucial for success in adulthood, cannot be picked up quickly. They must be learned over time.

Although they don't define a person, childhood memories can be very important in one's life. It is not certain that a person with pleasant memories always lives a happy life and a person with sad memories always lives a chaotic life. Difficult childhood experiences might occasionally make a person stronger, empathetic and resilient.

It may be argued that childhood memories keep our inner child alive. Every person always has a child inside of them. At any point in life, it may just appear out of nowhere. It can also be shown in the tiny things we like doing on a daily basis.

My Favourite Childhood Memory

Childhood memories are always fun to recall after a tiring day at work. My fondest memories are all of my friends running together, friends creating mischief together, and playing cricket in the gullies. Summer holidays used to be just as fun and exciting. My friends and I would play football matches where we would imagine ourselves as our favourite football player. The losing team had to buy the winning team chocolates from the neighbourhood shop—we all would share and have a great laugh over it. When not playing football, we would play hide and seek in the gullies. Everyone would tactically hide and control their laughter lest someone finds them and screams ‘Gotcha’. After all the time spent playing outside, we would have to go back home to complete our holiday homework. My mom used to make my favourite meal during the holidays. It was always a pain to imagine the end of summer holidays and going back to school. Childhood was indeed a memorable journey that we still recall after a tiring day.

‘We all loved summer vacations, where we were allowed to enjoy a month-long vacation with our friends and families. However, a beautiful and fun childhood doesn’t determine a prosperous future. Diving into nostalgic childhood memories is something we all enjoy.’

Remembering little things like running wild on grass, flying kites, playing marbles, sliding on the seesaw, etc. reminds us of those good old memories. Family gatherings and celebrations form a tapestry strand, remembering the joy and togetherness. The smell of grandmothers’ home-cooked meals passing through my nostrils, the sound of relatives sharing anecdotes, and the sparkle in the eyes of grandparents imparted a sense of belonging and continuity. These gatherings served as anchors in the tumultuous sea of life, reminding us of our roots and the importance of human connection.’

Bedtime stories are one of the treasured memories of our childhood, where secrets were whispered under the twinkling lights. The rustle of pages turning in a favorite storybook, the comfort of a soft blanket, and the reassuring presence of a parent reading aloud – these moments were the alchemy that transformed ordinary nights into magical adventures. The tales became not just narratives but a source of moral compass, imparting lessons that lingered far beyond the pages.

‘When we are old and failing, it is the memories of childhood which can be summoned most clearly.’ – Dan Simmons

However, childhood memories are not immune to the bittersweet tinge of nostalgia. The fleeting nature of time becomes palpable as we grow older, and the places and faces that once defined our world may change or fade away. The innocence of our youth is a fragile bloom that caves to the relentless march of time.

Childhood memories are priceless experiences, which play an important role in shaping our character and contributing to the mosaic of our lives. Nostalgia, the sentimental longing for the past, is a testament to the enduring impact of those formative years. As we navigate the complexities of adulthood, the allure of revisiting the playgrounds of our youth and the warmth of familial embraces becomes a poignant journey, a celebration of the innocence that once defined us.

Childhood Memories Essay (Short & Long)

Childhood memories are some of the most precious and nostalgicically remembered moments in a person’s life. For me, my childhood memories are filled with happy and carefree times, spent playing with friends and exploring the world around me.

One of my favorite childhood memories is of the summer vacations I used to spend at my grandparents’ house in the countryside. The house was surrounded by acres of lush green fields and had a small pond in the back. My siblings and I used to spend hours splashing around in the cool water and catching fish with our bare hands.

I also have fond memories of the countless hours I spent playing with my friends in the neighborhood. We used to play all sorts of games, ranging from hide and seek to soccer and basketball. I remember the thrill of winning a game and the disappointment of losing, and how we always tried to come up with new and creative ways to play.

But it’s not just the outdoor adventures that I remember from my childhood. I also have many fond memories of indoor activities, such as baking cookies with my mom and reading bedtime stories with my dad. These simple, everyday moments have stayed with me and continue to bring a smile to my face.

As a toddler, I was full of energy and curiosity. I loved exploring my surroundings and discovering new things. I remember the excitement of learning how to walk and the joy of chasing after my older siblings.

One of my favorite childhood memories is of my grandfather, who would always take the time to play with me and make me laugh. He would chase me around the house, pretending to be a monster, and I would squeal with delight. These moments of play and connection with loved ones are so important for children and create a strong foundation for their development.

Another special memory from my early years is of my first trip to the beach. The feeling of the cool sand between my toes and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore is something I will never forget. As parents, it’s important to take the time to savor these precious moments with our children. These early years are filled with so much joy and wonder, and they go by far too quickly. So let’s take a moment to slow down and soak up the magic of childhood while we can.

Childhood Memories : Friends and Fun

School is a time of great growth and exploration for children. It’s a time when they make their first close friends, learn to navigate social interactions, and discover their own interests and passions. These years are filled with so much fun and excitement, and for many of us, they are some of our fondest childhood memories.

One of my favorite memories from elementary school is of the friendships I made. I remember the thrill of being invited to my first sleepover and staying up late giggling with my friends. But as we move forward in life, it’s also important to consider the lessons we learned and the ways in which our childhood experiences have shaped us. When I look back on my own childhood, I realize that many of the values and beliefs I hold dear were formed during these formative years.

One lesson I learned during my childhood was the importance of kindness and compassion. I remember my parents and teachers always stressing the importance of treating others with respect and empathy, and these lessons have stayed with me throughout my life. I believe that these values are crucial for building strong, healthy relationships and creating a positive impact in the world.

Another lesson I learned during my childhood was the value of hard work and determination. I remember my parents encouraging me to set goals and work towards them, and I learned the importance of perseverance and resilience. These lessons have helped me throughout my life and have helped me to overcome challenges and achieve my dreams.

As I look back on my childhood memories, I am grateful for the love and support of my family and the lessons I learned along the way. These memories serve as a reminder of the joy and magic of youth, and they provide a foundation for moving forward in life with purpose and direction.

Conclusion: Cherished Moments

Overall, my childhood memories are filled with joy and laughter, and I am grateful to have had such a happy and carefree upbringing. These memories continue to shape who I am today and bring me a sense of warmth and nostalgia whenever I think back on them.

Narrative Essay on Childhood Memories

Childhood memories are the treasures of our past, vividly painting the innocence, adventures, and joy of our early years. These memories, both sweet and bittersweet, form the mosaic of our identity, influencing who we become. This essay delves into the essence of childhood memories, exploring their impact and significance through a personal journey back in time.

The Magic of Childhood

Childhood: a period of life where every day feels like a new adventure, filled with curiosity and wonder. My childhood was no different. It was a time when the smallest things felt like grand discoveries, from finding a caterpillar in the backyard to the first time I rode a bike without training wheels. These moments, though seemingly small, are monumental in the eyes of a child. They represent growth, learning, and the boundless joy of living.

A Journey Back in Time

One of my most cherished memories takes me back to my grandmother’s house, a quaint cottage nestled in the heart of the countryside. It was a place out of a storybook, surrounded by lush gardens and towering trees that whispered secrets with the wind. My summers there were filled with endless days of exploration, from the crack of dawn until the stars claimed the sky.

The Garden Adventures

The garden was a magical realm where imagination had no bounds. My cousins and I would embark on epic adventures, pretending to be explorers in a mystical land. We built forts out of branches and leaves, declaring them castles of ancient times. The garden was our kingdom, and in it, we were invincible. The laughter and shouts of our play still echo in my mind, a reminder of the carefree joy of youth.

Lessons Learned

Amidst the fun and games, childhood also presented its set of challenges and lessons. I recall a particular rainy day when our garden escapades led to a muddy disaster. Our clothes were stained, and the indoors became a canvas for our muddy footprints. The scolding that followed taught us the importance of responsibility and the consequences of our actions. Yet, even in that moment of admonition, there was love and the gentle guidance towards making better choices.

The Power of Friendship

Childhood is also a time when friendships are formed, bonds that often last a lifetime. I met my best friend under the most unusual circumstances, a mishap during a school play where a missed cue turned into a comedy of errors. Instead of embarrassment, we found laughter and a friendship that stood the test of time. It was through these friendships that I learned the value of trust, support, and the sheer joy of having someone to share life’s moments with.

As the years passed, the innocence of childhood gradually gave way to the responsibilities of adulthood. The endless days of play were replaced by schedules and commitments. Yet, the memories of those carefree days remain, a beacon of light guiding me through life’s challenges. They remind me to find joy in the simple things, to approach life with curiosity, and to cherish the bonds formed in the innocence of childhood.

Childhood memories are more than just moments of the past; they are the foundation upon which we build our future. They teach us lessons, shape our values, and influence our paths. As I reflect on my journey through childhood, I am grateful for the experiences that shaped me, the challenges that strengthened me, and the joy that filled my days. These memories are a precious gift, a reminder of a time of innocence and wonder that continues to inspire and guide me as I navigate the complexities of adulthood.

500+ Words Essay on Childhood Memories

We all remember our childhood friends, interesting incidents relating to them, our family members, relatives, and so many other things. Childhood is a lovely time that everyone remembers. It is the period that everyone cherishes as this builds our foundation when we are growing. In our childhood, we were carefree and innocent. We don’t know what jealousy is and have no complexes regarding ourselves and others. It was time for play, studies and vacations. We were gorging on our favourite food without any restrictions, playing pranks on our siblings, and supporting our siblings when we had to face the wrath of our parents. Those days won’t come back, but we can remember those childhood memories.

My Childhood Memories

I have a lot of childhood memories. Here, I will be sharing the one which is the most memorable to me. In my childhood, we used to go to my grandparents’ house at least once a year. We mostly visit my grandparents’ house during my school summer vacation. My grandparents live in a small village which is located near Kanpur city in Uttar Pradesh. I wake up early in the morning and go to the farmhouse. Near the farmhouse, we have farming land, where various crops are grown. By that time in the summer, the crops are ready to harvest. I love to see the harvesting process. In the farmhouse, I get prepared by taking a bath in the running water of the tubewell. I love that moment. The cold water and fresh air refresh my mind, and it starts my day full of positive energy.

My grandmother cooks the food in the traditional style by using the “Chulha”, a U-shaped mud stove made from local clay. I love the taste of cooked food. It’s so delicious and yummy. Also, during summer, my grandmother made papad, pickles of mango and green chilli. I just love eating them. We also have one cow and two buffaloes in the farmhouse. Due to this, there is a lot of milk and curd available in my house. It’s my duty to make Lassi, and we drink it every day after having lunch. At night, we sleep on the terrace to feel cool during summer. All my cousins gather at the terrace, and we enjoy it together. Everyone drinks a glass of milk before going to sleep.

Another naughty incident that I remember from my childhood was when I was studying at LKG. My parents had gone for a walk after having dinner at night. They informed me that they would be coming back soon, so I should not lock the door from the inside. I was watching the TV and said ok. After some time, I went to the kitchen to have a glass of water, and I locked the main door. I didn’t realise when I slept while watching the TV. My parents came, and they kept knocking on the door. I didn’t get up, and they had to be outside the home for the whole night. They went to the neighbours’ house and stayed there. In the morning, when I got up, I opened the door and called my parents.

Childhood is the best part of everyone’s life. Childhood memories give us different kinds of experiences. Whatever we have learned in our childhood lasts for a long time. Some experiences are joyful, while some help us learn lessons. These lessons give us the strength to stay positive in life even when situations are not in our favour.

But finally, my father bought me some books, a school bag, and a school uniform and I agreed to go to school. The first day was full of scariness for me. We went to the headmaster’s room and he asked me some easy questions. I knew the answers but I was unable to answer due to lots of pressure going on in my head.

Essay on Memories 3 Models

Last updated Monday , 18-03-2024 on 09:48 pm

Essay on memories, our memories are part of our lives. We go back with our memories to the past, and we remember the happy events in it. There are memories engraved in our minds, feelings hidden in our hearts, and images we kept in our eyes. Our memories are part of the past and they are the source of our happiness in the present.

In Essay on memories we can write our childhood memories, our memories with family and relatives on holidays and occasions, memories of the first school day, the education journey and the success we achieved, memories of the first love, and the first friend, our memories are our past experiences, from which we learned a lot.

Essay on memories

There are many memories in our lives, including beautiful memories that make us stronger, and other memories that contain a lot of pain and make us feel sad, especially if they are memories related to people we have lost.

In fact, there are memories that represent great meaning to us, as they are the best that happened to us in our lives, such as moments of success, or knowing someone else’s feelings towards us.

In Essay on memories, I will write about the importance of memories. We resort to searching for our beautiful memories so that we can bear the difficult circumstances we live in. We also wish that our past lives, especially those that brought us happiness, would return.

Childhood memories

Childhood memories are our most beautiful memories. They are engraved in our minds and hearts. I do not forget the kindness of my father and mother, their love for me, and the gifts they used to buy me. My beautiful toys I spent many times with her, playing with them and talking to them as if they could hear me, my little room, my bed and my desk.

I sat at this desk for several years studying my lessons, writing down my assignments, everything in my room had a fond memory in my mind and in my heart.

I like the writer’s saying: “ Winter is cold for those who do not have warm memories. ” Fyodor Dostoevsky. I remember the first school day very well, and in the Essay on memories I will write about the memories of that day. I felt a mixture of feelings, feelings of fear and feelings of joy. It’s my first day at school, I feel scared because it’s a new place, and I feel happy because I started the learning stage, and I quickly got used to school, and I became a top student in my studies.

In childhood, we get love and attention from our family, and this leaves a beautiful memory inside us throughout life. The feeling of security is the best feeling that a person needs, and that is why we always remember the childhood stage, and we feel happy and wish it would come back again, as our parents used to provide us with everything we need.

In childhood, we do not take responsibility and do not think of anything other than fun and play.

And Nibal Qundus says: “ The children, despite their innocence and angelic nature, never forget the offense. Beware of leaving bad memories for them. “

Teenage memories

Memories of adolescence are among the beautiful memories that remain hidden inside us for life. At this stage, I had successful and failed experiences. It is the stage in which I rebelled against receiving orders from my parents, and tried to rely on myself and make difficult decisions.

Sometimes I made the right decisions, and other times I made the wrong ones, so it is important to consult our parents and benefit from their advice.

In Essay on memories I will write some of my teenage memories. In adolescence I had many friendships, some of these friends were good, and therefore this friendship continued until now, but some friends were bad, and they caused me a lot of harm, so I moved away from them.

And there are people I love, but we parted because of education, or travel. These people are still present in my memory, and I cannot forget the beautiful times I spent with them. My memories of middle school and high school I can never forget, as they constitute the largest part of my memories, and at this stage I was exposed to many situations.

These situations are what formed my personality, this stage in which major changes occur in a person’s life. Therefore, it is full of experiences and difficult situations, and this stage is when we make true friendships, and these friendships may last a lifetime.

Adolescence is a period of strength, growth and aspiration to achieve dreams. Munther Al-Qabbani says: “ The most important thing that a person carries with him through life is memories, both sweet and bitter. “

In Essay on memories, why do we relive our memories?

Everyone has different memories, happy or otherwise, and in all cases we benefit from reliving our memories.

Beautiful memories bring happiness to our souls, and improve our psychological state, and therefore we should remember the beautiful things in our lives, such as our living with the family, the mother’s love, the father’s kindness, spending quality time with brothers and sisters, adventures and trips, the places we went to with people we love, Every beautiful thing we lived in the past will make us happy when we remember it.

Many times we don’t recall memories, but rather they come suddenly and we find ourselves smiling. A person carries within him the memories of a lifetime, and it is difficult for anyone to see them. They are special memories that provide you with feelings of love and happiness, and help you to continue progressing in life with some hope.

I like to remember all the beautiful things that happened to me in the past, they are my memories that I live by, and this does not mean that the present is bad, but the moments of happiness that we lived in the past are not repeated.

I like this saying: “ Be careful who you make memories with, because those things last a lifetime. “

Socrates the philosopher.

In the conclusion of the Essay on memories, Mark Twain says: “ Memories are something above the will, above the heart, above the feelings, that is why they are unforgettable .”

You should know that our memories are part of us, through these memories our personality was formed, and some of these memories make us feel proud of the success we have achieved in our lives.

And some memories are painful and cause us some sadness, but we have benefited from it, and we are good to ourselves, our private memories are ours, and we should not talk about them with others. It is a summary of our experiences in life, we lived it honestly, and we learned from it, and in many cases we failed and tried again in order to reach success.

In conclusion, Essay on memories, I hope you have benefited.

Childhood is the most enjoyable and amazing experience part of our life. It is that phase of our life when we were free from sorrows and worries. We had no job or anything to worry about.

Our loved ones were around us all the time. Mom was there to feed and hug us when we were sick, dad was there to bring our favorite toys and our friends lived next to our house. Everything was good and pleasant.

Why Childhood Memories Matter?

One can never forget childhood memories with friends. If somebody recalls the happiest and funny childhood memory or just to think top 10 childhood memories, there are bundles of them! The best experience in our life, if we have ever had, is the childhood period.

What a person learns in his childhood always stays with him. If he has been taught the importance of discipline, punctuality, ethics and values since childhood then these values will stay with him throughout his life.

It is impossible for him to become punctual and disciplined all of a sudden when no one taught them the importance of these manners in his childhood.

When a child comes into this world, he has no knowledge about anything. He learns everything through his surrounding by observing. So, whatever a person becomes in his future is due to the experiences he learnt as a child.

My Personal Childhood Memoir

When I recall my childhood days, I feel so pleasant and delighted. When I am having a bad day, I sit down and recall all those precious days. Reliving those days in my mind always brings a smile on my face and I forget about all my worries.

I still remember those precious childhood days. I was the youngest in my family so everyone used to pamper me so much. I still remember how I used to cry at night for ice-cream and my dad would always get it no matter how late it was.

I have seen so many videos of my 2nd birthday when I started taking first steps. These videos always excite me. On every vacation, my family used to make picnic plans. I would get so excited to hear that because I knew that I was going to explore a new place that I have not seen before.

My grandmother is my most favorite personality in this whole world. She used to make so many delicious dishes for me. I still remember that I used to run to my home in the middle of my play time just to eat food from her hands.

At night, she used to read me so many stories. My favorite story was of ‘Princesses and Fairies’ who lived in a palace and had amazing super powers.

The funniest memory of my childhood is of my first day at school. I cried a lot when my dad left me alone in the class. I laid down in the classroom while crying loudly but then, my teacher gave me chocolates after which I stopped crying.

I made so many friends on my first day and enjoyed too. I had many friends at school. At that time, our hearts were free of negativity. We had no ego or attitude in our personality. Even if we had a fight then after some time, we would finish our anger and become friends again.

Short Essay on Childhood Memories (250 – 300 Words)

Introduction

Memory is an interesting and important part of our lives. The things we remember most about our lives are the things from our childhood. We can never forget the things we did when we were young.

My Childhood Memories

When I think about my childhood, I remember a lot of stories. Some of them make me happy, while others help me learn and grow. I think my kindergarten memory is the one that has stuck with me the most. I still remember the very first day of my school. I cried so much for not going to school. My mother took me to school and gave me many chocolates so that I didn’t cry. I was very upset but my teacher showed me some love and I enjoyed the day. I made many new friends and from that day I loved going to school every day.

The necessity of Childhood Memories

The things we remember from our childhood are important to us as adults. Our childhood is a very important part of how we grow up. People say that childhood is the best time of life because we don’t have to worry about anything. Childhood memories are very important to us because they help us build our character and personality. Memories from childhood also have a lot to do with good habits like being disciplined and having the right attitude in life.

Every kid has a special memory from their childhood that they always think about or remember. When we think back on good times, we feel joy and happiness. On the other hand, when we think about bad things that have happened to us, we feel fear and sadness. Memories are worth a lot and will always be important to us.

Long Essay on Childhood Memories (500 Words)

Life is full of memories. Some of which are sweet, while some of them are bitter. When we look back at these memories we feel happy and sometimes sad. There are a lot of memories we have forgotten, and some of them we can only remember a little bit. We all remember our childhood friends, interesting things that happened to us, our family, relatives, and much more. These are the best part of our lives.

Childhood: The Best Part of Life

One of the most important parts of life is childhood, which affects how confident one will be in the future. There is a lot of innocence in childhood. When we are young, we don’t know much about the world, but we start to learn about it. It was a time in our lives when we didn’t have to worry or feel sad. It is also an important part of our lives because what a person learns as a child stays with him forever. The environment we live in childhood directly affects our personality.

My beautiful Childhood Memories

When I think about my childhood, I feel so happy. There are many sweet memories out of which the best memory comes from my village. When I was about four years old, I went to my grandparent’s house for the first time. I remember every day spent there. My grandmother cooked my favorite food every day.

We used to sleep on the terrace below the open sky. I loved counting stars at night. Every night, my grandmother told me stories. In the morning I used to go to the farms with my grandfather. He brought me sweets and chocolates every day. There were many kids of my age in the neighborhood. It was really fun to spend a few days there.

Importance of Childhood Memories

Our memories from childhood are very important to us. When we are young, we are most eager to learn. Everyone loves to recollect their childhood memories. They also help us to keep the child inside us alive. They change the way we think and what we do in the future. Childhood is a time free from worries, problems, and unnecessary thoughts. Thinking of old memories brings smiles to our faces. However, sometimes we can feel regret and sadness. But these memories are a great way to learn from the past. They teach us from our mistakes and help us to get better.

Everyone has fond memories of their childhood. We can relive the events of our childhoods through our memories. We realize from these memories that childhood is the best part of life. We can’t go back in time and get those days back, but we can remember and feel the moment. We should keep our childhood memories because they might become our “pleasure of loneliness” for the rest of our lives. I wish I could go back to when I was a child.

I hope the above provided essay on Childhood Memories will be helpful in recollecting your childhood memories.

Life is a journey. However, as humans, we have categorised this journey on the basis of ages and phases. One of the best and most glorious phases of life is Childhood. As humans, we are most immature and very innocent in this phase of our lives. Childhood stands for the ages up to 12, before entering teenage. Children have different perspectives pertaining to the world. They are candid and unapologetically themselves, something adults struggle at. They are honest and carefree. For a child, issues such as not doing simple homework are extremely dreadful and they do not care what land has been conquered by whom. Complex issues are just negligible in childhood. When we grow up, we can only reminisce about this time and live in those memories.

As they say, “Every happy memory created in childhood is a treasure of time”, childhood is sure a treasure. It is made up of innocently climbing on the walls, doing homework after returning from school, throwing tantrums for getting permission to have another piece of chocolate in the day, smiling all day because parents got ice cream on their way back home, feeling positive the entire day because the sports teacher substituted for the mathematics class in school, and so much more.

Childhood memories are marked by finding joy in every little thing. As children, we are unbothered and cream-filled biscuits while watching our favourite cartoon are enough for us to laugh heartily. When we try to remember our days back as a child, we observe that they were more about things that were uncomplex and simple. Uncomplicated is the best way to describe childhood memories. As children, we never acknowledge a fact with an opinion. We rather see it very unbiasedly. This is one of the best things about childhood. As children, we hardly remember friendship breakups because everything was only a matter of smiles. Children fix everything with their smiles. Be it their friendships or the bad mood of their parents, children hold the capacity to fix things with their smiles.

Childhood memories are a gift. For certain sections of society, this gift has been ripped due to a lot of social evils. Adults in society must strive to provide each child with a better childhood, just as Wendy Dale says, “Childhoods never last. But everyone deserves one.”

essay on memories in english

For many years, I have been trying to talk an old friend of mine into writing a popular book on Skeat. A book about such a colorful individual, I kept repeating, would sell like hotcakes. But he never wrote it. Neither will I (much to my regret), but there is no reason why I should not devote another short essay to Skeat. In 2016, Oxford University Press published Peter Gilliver’s book The Making of the Oxford English Dictionary , a work of incredible erudition. Skeat is mentioned in it many times, and I decided to glean those mentions, to highlight Skeat’s role in the production of the epoch-making work.

Twenty-six years separated the day on which the idea of the dictionary was made public and the appearance of the first fascicle. Countless people contributed to the production of the OED , but the public, if it knows anything about the history of this project, has heard only the name of James A. H. Murray , its first and greatest editor. This is perhaps as it should be, but in the wings we find quite a few actors waiting for broader recognition. One of them is Walter W. Skeat , a man of incredible erudition and inexhaustible energy. I have lauded him more than once (see, for example, the post for November 17, 2010 , reprinted in my book Origin Uncertain … .). However, today I’ll use only the material mentioned in or suggested by Peter Gilliver.

Skeat was not only the greatest English etymologist of his time (in a way, I think, of all times, despite the progress made by this branch of linguistics since 1912, the year he died). In 1873, he also founded the English Dialect Society and remained active in it as secretary and later director until 1896 (in 1897, after fulfilling its function, the society was dissolved). He edited the numerous book-length glossaries published by the society; attended its meetings wherever they were held, and without him Joseph Wright ’s work The English Dialect Dictionary (1898-1905), still a source of inspiration to students of English, would probably not have been completed.

Among very many other things (!), he was a founding member of The Early English Text Society , and in 1865, he became a member of its committee. Neither post was “ceremonial,” for it presupposed a lot of work. Last but not least, Skeat was a generous man, a rare quality in scholars. For instance, he contributed a large sum of money to the Dialect Society at its inception, and much earlier, in 1885, he loaned Murray £1,660 for the purchase of a house in Oxford, the location of the future famous Scriptorium . Curiously, to this day, it is often the philanthropists who subsidize historical linguistics.

In the early eighteen-seventies, some influential people suggested that Skeat should become the main figure in the production of what became the OED . Fortunately, he concentrated on editing medieval texts and writing his etymological dictionary. He would not have become a second Murray, but by way of compensation, no one else would have done so much for the study of word origins and early English literature. Amazingly, Murray, a wonder of erudition, had little formal education and no university degree, while the Reverend Skeat’s background was in the classics. As individuals, Skeat and Murray represented different psychological types. Skeat was impatient and ready to bring out a book, not yet quite perfect, in the hope of a revised version. He would have been satisfied with a much smaller OED , while Murray made no concessions to haste (his invariable goal was absolute perfection, a wagon hitched to a star) and advised Skeat to wait for the completion of the OED before publishing his etymological dictionary. Fortunately, his suggestion fell on deaf ears, but Skeat’s readiness to agree that the text of the OED might be shortened infuriated Murray. (The episode was the result of a misunderstanding, and Skeat apologized.)

At that time, all thick dictionaries appeared in fascicles, which presupposed a good deal of competition among the lexicographers, the more so as a relatively small circle of publishers was involved. The people whom we know only from the names on the covers of their works were often not only colleagues and even friends but also rivals. At a certain moment, Skeat concluded that the Clarendon Press had declined to take on the OED and turned to the Press with an offer of his own etymological dictionary. As it happened, the two projects ran concurrently and did not get into each other’s way. Skeat’s work appeared in 1882, two years before the first fascicle of the OED came out. Murray once commented on Skeat’s dependence on the research at the OED , but Skeat responded rather testily that the OED had also had access to his findings. Yet Skeat remained Murray’s trusted friend and often maneuvered among various projects, to prevent other publishers from interfering with the OED . Though also hot-tempered, he was more diplomatic than Murray, and the relations between the two men remained friendly and even warm for years. To James Murray, Skeat’s death in 1912 was a heavy blow. He survived Skeat by three years. (Skeat: 1835-1912, Murray: 1837-1915.)

Throughout his life, Skeat supported the OED by his reviews (today it seems incredible that once not everybody praised Murray’s work) and kept chastising his countrymen for their ignorance and stupidity when it came to philology. He never stopped complaining that people used to offer silly hypotheses of word origins, instead of consulting the greatest authority there was. He also tried to encourage Murray, who often felt exhausted and dispirited. This is the letter he wrote to Murray, when he was working on cu -words: “I could find enough talk to cumber you. You could come by a curvilinear railway. Bring a cudgel to walk with. We will give you culinary dishes. Your holiday will culminate in sufficient rest; we can cultivate new ideas, & cull new flowers of speech. We have cutlets in the cupboards , & currants , & curry , & custards , & (naturally) cups . […] Write & say you’ll CUM!” Nor did Skeat stay away from the least interesting part of the work connected with the OED and often read the proofs of the pages before they went into print.

Gilliver states that Skeat’s support for the Dictionary and its editors in so many ways places him alongside Furnivall and Henry Hucks Gibbs. Gibbs was “a wealthy merchant banker (and director of the bank of England) who would go on to become one of the Dictionary’s greatest supporters… He had been reading for the Dictionary at least since July 1860.” And the somewhat erratic Frederick James Furnivall (1825-1910) earned fame as a central figure in the philology of his day, even though today only specialists remember him.

A picture of Furnivall can be seen on p. 12. Gibbs appears sitting in a comfortable armchair on p. 43, and on p. 67, an entry for rebeck “a rude kind of fiddle” (among other senses), subedited by Skeat, is photographed. Quite a few more bagatelles of this type can be produced by an attentive reader of Peter Gilliver’s monumental book, but for the moment, I’ll stay with Skeat.

Title: leave no context behind: efficient infinite context transformers with infini-attention.

Abstract: This work introduces an efficient method to scale Transformer-based Large Language Models (LLMs) to infinitely long inputs with bounded memory and computation. A key component in our proposed approach is a new attention technique dubbed Infini-attention. The Infini-attention incorporates a compressive memory into the vanilla attention mechanism and builds in both masked local attention and long-term linear attention mechanisms in a single Transformer block. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on long-context language modeling benchmarks, 1M sequence length passkey context block retrieval and 500K length book summarization tasks with 1B and 8B LLMs. Our approach introduces minimal bounded memory parameters and enables fast streaming inference for LLMs.
