The business must try to resolve some issues in its current area of operation. Describe the business model that you will adopt in this sub-section. Here you must answer the 2 following questions:

Is this a corporation or a partnership (LLC)? Who are the investors? How much equity percentage do they own? Is there a Board of Directors? If so, whom? Do they have experience in the industry?

A complete understanding of the market where you want to operate is important for the success of your business.

For example, if you want to open an auto glass repair shop in an area where most of the vehicle owners usually come for regular servicing, it might not be a viable business model for the area.

d) Customers

This is the sub-section where you will provide a detailed analysis of your target audience. You will expand the data points your provided earlier in the Business Overview segment.

Some important points that you must include in your customer analysis include:

  • Age and gender distribution (you can get local demographic data from census.gov )
  • Driver gender ratio
  • Number of vehicles per family
  • Average monthly income and disposable income
  • Average bill size per visit
  • Average yearly spending on auto repair services
  • Vehicle type & brand preferences

You can add as many data points as required to validate your business decision. The idea here is to display your deep understanding of the target audience and the needs, preferences, and expectations. This knowledge can help you to tailor your products & services to attract new customers.

4. Sales & Marketing

This is the section of your business plan where you outline your customer acquisition strategy. Try to answer the following questions:

  • What are your Unique Selling Points (USPs)?
  • What are the different marketing strategies you will use?
  • How do you intend to track the success of your marketing strategy?
  • What is your CAC or customer acquisition cost?
  • What is your marketing budget?
  • What introductory promos and offers do you intend to provide for attracting new customers?

What marketing channels do auto repair shops use?

A few marketing channels that auto repair shops typically use are:

  • Signage, billboards
  • PPC ads, Facebook ads, etc.
  • Print media
  • Loyalty programs
  • Online local listing (Google Business)
  • Content marketing (share content like vehicle maintenance tips, safe driving tips, etc.) on platforms like blogs, social media, etc.
  • Word of mouth

You must have a fair and nearly accurate estimate of your marketing budget. Therefore, make sure to budget for marketing accordingly in your financial projections.

What are your Unique Selling Propositions (USPs)?

In other words, how do you differentiate yourself vs. competitors? This is very important as you might need to win customers from competitors.

A few examples of USPs are:

  • High quality service
  • Location : you store is closer to a busy road and/or to where your customers live
  • Partnerships with car manufacturer brands that refer you to their customers
  • Loyalty reward programs : X number of free tune-ups, alignments, and brake services per year

Your USPs will depend on your business model, competitor analysis , and target audience. Whatever your USPs are, it should appeal to your potential customers and attract them.

5. Management & People

You must address 2 things here:

  • The management team and their experience/track record
  • The organizational structure: the different team members and who reports to whom

Small businesses often fail because of managerial weaknesses. Thus, having a strong management team is vital. Highlight the experience and education of senior managers that you intend to hire to oversee your auto repair shop business.

Describe their duties, responsibilities, and roles. Also, highlight their previous experience and explain how they succeeded in their previous roles.

It is also important that you explain how their experiences and qualifications help you in implementing the auto repair shop you are proposing. If they have specialized training and education (such as automotive technician training, collision & auto body repair training, etc.), add that information.

Organization Structure

Even if you haven’t already hired a service manager, mechanics, helpers, and other relevant staff members, you must provide a chart of the organizational structure outlining the different teams, roles and their reporting lines.

6. Financial Plan

The financial plan is perhaps, with the executive summary, the most important section of any business plan.

Indeed, a solid financial plan tells lenders that your business is viable and can repay the loan you need from them. If you’re looking to raise equity from private investors, a solid financial plan will prove them your auto repair shop is an attractive investment.

There should be 3 sections to your financial plan section:

  • Your historical financials (only if you already operate the business and have financial accounts to show)
  • The startup costs of your project (if you plan to purchase new repair equipment, renovate your facilities, etc.)
  • The 5-year financial projections

a) Historical Financials (if any)

In the scenario where you already have some historical financials (a few quarters or a few years), include them. A summary of your financial statements in the form of charts e.g. revenue, gross profit and net profit is enough, save the rest for the appendix.

If you don’t have any, don’t worry, most new businesses don’t have any historical financials and that’s ok. If so, jump to Startup Costs instead.

b) Startup Costs

Before we expand on 5-year financial projections in the following section, it’s always best practice to start with listing the startup costs of your project. For an auto repair business, startup costs are all the expenses you incur before you open your auto repair shop and starting making sales. These expenses typically are:

  • The lease deposit for the commercial space you rent (if you don’t buy it)
  • The design and renovation of the existing facilities
  • The auto repair equipment

Assuming you do not buy the land and the building but decide to rent instead, typically startup costs are anywhere from $67,200 to $225,500 for a typical small (5,000 sq. ft.) auto repair shop.

c) Financial Projections

In addition to startup costs, you will now need to build a solid financial model over 5 years.

Your financial projections should be built using a spreadsheet (e.g. Excel or Google Sheets) and presented in the form of tables and charts in your business plan.

As usual, keep it concise here and save details (for example detailed financial statements , financial metrics, Key Performance Indicators , key assumptions used for the projections) for the appendix instead.

Your financial projections should answer at least the following questions:

  • How much revenue do you expect to generate over the next 5 years?
  • When do you expect to break even ?
  • How much cash will you burn until you get there?
  • What’s the impact of a change in pricing (say 20%) on your margins?
  • What is your average customer acquisition cost?

You should include here your 3 financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement ). This means you must forecast:

  • The number of customers over time ;
  • Your expected revenue ;
  • Operating costs to run the business ;
  • Any other cash flow items (e.g. capex, debt repayment, etc.).

When projecting your revenue, make sure to sensitize pricing and the number of customers as a small change in these assumptions will have a big impact on your revenues.

7. Funding Ask

This is the last section of your auto repair shop business plan . Now that we have explained what your auto repair business model is about, what’s your strategy, where you go and how you get there, this section must answer the following questions:

  • How much funding do you need?
  • What financial instrument(s) do you need: is this equity or debt, or even a free-money public grant?
  • How long will this funding last?
  • Where else does the money come from? If you apply for a SBA loan for example, where does the other part of the investment come from (your own capital, private investors?)

If you raise debt:

  • What percentage of the total funding the loan represents?
  • What is the corresponding Debt Service Coverage Ratio ?

If you raise equity

  • What percentage ownership are you selling as part of this funding round?
  • What is the corresponding valuation of your business?

Use of Funds

Any auto repair business plan should include a clear use of funds section. This is where you explain how the money will be spent.

Will you spend most of the loan / investment in paying your employees’ salaries? Or will it cover mostly the cost for the lease deposit and the machines and equipment?

Those are very important questions you should be able to answer in the blink of an eye. Don’t worry, this should come straight from your financial projections. Writing a business plan is critical to the success of your appliance repair service.  Writing a business plan can be intimidating for the first time, but we have tips to help you get started on the right path.

Why is a Business Plan Important?

While many people write their appliance repair business plan for funding purposes, the business plan can offer many more benefits such as:

You have likely already spent a lot of time thinking about your appliance repair business, but it is next to impossible to stay organized and reach all of your goals by not writing them all down. Likewise, it is difficult to have a clear vision until you put those thoughts on paper. That is where the business plan comes into play. Creating a business plan provides a road map to connect the dots and make your vision a reality.

Another point to encourage you in writing your business plan is that the  Small Business Administration  shows that over 21% of small businesses fail in the first year, and 50% fail in the first five years.  Some of the more common reasons for business failure include not starting with enough money, lack of planning, and overestimating revenue.  The business planning process can help identify these issues helping to reduce costly mistakes once your business is off the ground.

Another advantage of having a business plan is receiving valuable feedback from others in your industry. New entrepreneurs can be overly optimistic when starting their business and overlooking details both big and small simply because of a lack of experience.

By having another business owner, consultant in the industry, or accountant look over your plan, you can receive critical feedback, spotting potential weaknesses in the plan. Getting these insights and fixing the plan before presenting it to a lender or investor increases the likelihood of receiving funding and increasing the odds of business success.

Writing a business plan is not something many prospective appliance repair shop owners want to do because they are unfamiliar with the process, and it takes time. However, keep in mind that writing a business plan is nowhere near as hard as running a business without a roadmap.

What Goes into a Business Plan?

There is no set format for a business plan, and it is a living document, meaning that changes can (and probably will) be made over time.  However, there are specific topics that need to be covered. Below we have a business plan outline that should help you get started.  However, since this is your plan, write it the way that makes the most sense for your business and the intended reader.

Executive Summary

The executive summary is included at the beginning of a business plan but will be the last part written.  This section should be a clear, concise, and high-level overview to help the reader (often a lender or investor) quickly decide whether or not your project is one they will continue reviewing.  If they are not engaged after reading the summary, they will not likely read further, so it is essential to generate interest quickly.

Common elements of an executive summary for your appliance repair shop business plan will include:

The appliance repair industry provides repair and maintenance services for home appliances and garden equipment. From 2015 to 2020, there was a great competition with consumers wanting to replace appliances rather than repair them. This is the result of higher disposable income as well as a spike in DIY savvy consumers.

In the five years from 2020 to 2025, per capita, disposable income, homeownership, and existing home sales are expected to increase. These factors support increasing industry revenues.

Another point to drive home in this section is the need for an appliance repair shop is needed. Describe what will set your business apart from the competition and why people would choose you over your competitors.

In addition to exceptional service, a successful appliance repair needs to also offer:

  • A good reputation:  Having a good reputation can go a long way, especially if the geographical area you will be located in is pretty concentrated competition-wise.
  • Access to a highly skilled workforce: Per an IBIS World report, wages account for an average of 29% of overall costs in the appliance repair industry. With the increase in the minimum wage, this percentage is likely to increase. Considering the investment you will be making in your employees and technicians, it is crucial that those individuals are top-notch in their field.
  • Prompt delivery of your service:  Delivering fast service to your customers will play a huge factor in the success of your business as service requests are expected to be fulfilled quickly. Otherwise, customers are inclined to seek service from another provider.

Industry Overview

The industry overview section should describe the overall market for appliance repair services, home improvement, and lawn and outdoor equipment industries. These types of businesses complement the appliance repair sector. Company Ownership

Indicate the legal entity of your business and how ownership will be structured.  If you aren’t sure about the differences between a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or Limited Liability Company (LLC), be sure to check out our article comparing the different business entities.

Discuss where you’re your appliance repair shop will be located and why this location is desirable. For example, you may decide to run this business out of a home office, but if you plan to have office space, consider the proximity to other similar businesses, as this affects your competitive landscape.

Permits and Licenses

Before opening an appliance repair business, you’ll need to obtain several federal, state, and local licenses and permits. Standard permits for this type of business include:

  • Business License (Check with the municipality in which you will run your business.)
  • Training and license to work of the appliance you will service

Owners, Management & Employees

In this section, include a brief biography of the owners and their professional experience and education. (Resumes may even be included in the Appendix of your business plan.) This section is critical when looking for funding as a lot of weight is placed on the experience of the owner(s) and their ability to run an appliance repair business successfully. If the owner(s) don’t have direct industry experience, explain how their previous experience is relevant such as selling new appliances.

If there will be any employees, including information about staffing to detail what positions and how many people are needed to run your business.  Include the title of the position, the number of people required for each position required hours per week or month, and the wages for those positions.

Include a timeline of milestones already achieved and those that are being worked on.  By having a timeline, you will have a list of the sequence of when critical tasks need to happen. An example of such millstones include:

The competition for an appliance repair service can be competitive, and the number of ways to market this type of business keeps expanding.  Just being good about fixing refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, and other household appliances may not be good enough. Without a solid plan to get the message out about your potential customers, it may be hard to get customers to trust a newly established company.   Getting noticed in the market is critical, so what will you do to get the message out and make your business stand out?

The marketing section is one of the most important business plan sections but is often not given the time and attention to detail as it needs. Why is it so important?  Because your business needs customers to spend money without service calls, there will be no business.  Without knowing who your customers are and how to reach them, they may never hear about your repair service.

Don’t think of targeting a specific group as excluding people and limiting business potential.  By defining your target market, you can more effectively spend your marketing budget by explicitly going after the people who will most likely need appliance repair. For instance, you will target homeowners instead of those who rent, such as those living in apartment complexes.

After defining your target market, try and find numbers about how many of them there are.   You can find this information by visiting websites such as city-data.com or census.gov. Having actual data and statistics in your business plan lends credibility and will help form the basis for potential customers.

Promotional Strategy

After defining the target market, the promotional strategy comes next.  The promotional process looks at how to reach your target market best.   By knowing your target market, assumptions can be made to best reach them by focusing on their media preferences.

When preparing this section, make sure to have a solid plan to generate attention through the various marketing channels like print, radio, social media, we8bsite, etc. Also, be sure to get actual costs for advertising to use in the financial projections later in the plan.

The competitive analysis section will provide an overview of the competition in your area and why you believe people will choose you over them.  You will likely focus on other repair services, but don’t forget to look at indirect competition such as home improvement stores.

It would help if you listed how many appliance repair businesses are in a nearby radius and then focus your analysis on the top 3-5 competitors.  The purpose is to research and show you understand the competition and what gives you a competitive advantage.

Some of the key areas to look at in a competitive analysis include:

  • Competitor’s name
  • What they do well
  • What you will do better/differently

This is  not  the place to bash your competition or make references to how terrible of a person the owner is since this is subjective. Doing so also makes you look unprofessional and is not likely to get you the funding.

Financial Projections

The financial projections of any business plan are a critical component of the plan but are often the most intimidating.  Typically, lenders and investors will read the executive summary to see if it is a project they would be interested in participating in and then jump right to these projections.  If the thought of preparing financial projections is a bit daunting, software such as LivePlan helps make it easier.

Sales Projections

Sales projections can be complicated to estimate without existing revenue data.  There are several ways of estimating sales for an appliance repair service, but you will want to refer back to your target market research done earlier to support your assumptions.

Seasonality

When looking at sales projections, the effects of seasonality also need to be evaluated.  Seasonality is more significant in some businesses than others. It is vital to estimate based on these fluctuations because it can show whether a company is projected to run out of mon2ey in the financial statements.

Simply dividing sales by 12 months is a common mistake picked up by lenders and investors because it shows the entrepreneur may not understand the sales trends for the industry.

The appliance repair industry goes through a unique cycle as different appliances break during different seasons.

Uses of Funds

Start with a section for the Use of Funds to show the total cost of starting your appliance repair business. Next, list any expenses you have already incurred and what still needs to be purchased.  You don’t need to itemize every small item, such as every office supply or piece of equipment, so combine the cost of all similar items and list them.

It’s important to have quotes for everything should the bank or lender request them, but only add quotes for the more expensive items such as renovations as attachments in the Appendix.

Total up the Uses of Funds to find the total cost of the project

Sources of Funds

The Sources of Funds section breaks out where the money is going to come from.  The owner’s investment is commonly listed first.  Most lenders will want to see the owner(s) put in between 15% – 25% for a new startup.

Other funding sources are listed next, such as bank loans, SBA guarantees, investor funds, etc. Learn more about finding financing for your appliance repair business.

The total amount in the Sources of Funds should match the Uses of Funds.

Financial Statements

There are three primary financial statements that a lender will look at for a startup of an appliance repair service: the cash flow statement, profit, and loss statement, and balance sheet. The information provided previously in the narrative portion of the business plan must match the financial projections.

Cash Flow Statement  – The projected cash flow statement is an important tool when starting a business. Similar to a checkbook register, the projected cash flow statement shows an estimate of the money coming into the business and expenses that will need to be paid.  The benefit of this statement is to see whether there is enough cash to sustain the company based on the assumptions.  Should this number be negative, the assumptions need to be reevaluated to see if sales can be increased, expenses reduced, or more cash needed to start the business.

The cash flow statement is typically structured to look at three years later, with the first year broken out by month and years two and three broken out by quarter.

Profit & Loss Statement  – This statement (sometimes called a P&L statement or income statement), while similar to the cash flow statement, shows the annual income and expenses of the business.  The projected profit and loss statement is often displayed annually and takes a pre-tax view of the financial results of the business.

Balance Sheet  – The projected balance sheet statement be requested by all banks when reviewing a loan for your new appliance repair business. A projected balance sheet shows the projected assets and liabilities for a startup and then the end of each year.

Personal Financial Statement

If applying for bank financing, a personal financial statement will typically be needed for every person with a 20% or more ownership position in the business.  This statement is similar to one that is used to apply for a home or car loan.   The personal financial statement will show a borrower’s assets (checking & savings accounts, CD, IRA, 401K, valuables, home, vehicle, etc.) as well as debts (mortgages, credit card bills, installment accounts, etc.).

The third reason is to prove to readers that you are an expert in your industry. By conducting the research and presenting it in your plan, you achieve just that.

The following questions should be answered in the industry analysis section of your credit repair company business plan:

  • How big is the credit repair industry (in dollars)?
  • Is the market declining or increasing?
  • Who are the key competitors in the market?
  • Who are the key suppliers in the market?
  • What trends are affecting the industry?
  • What is the industry’s growth forecast over the next 5 – 10 years?
  • What is the relevant market size? That is, how big is the potential target market for your credit repair business? You can extrapolate such a figure by assessing the size of the market in the entire country and then applying that figure to your local population.

Customer Analysis

Competitive Analysis

Your competitive analysis should identify the indirect and direct competitors your business faces and then focus on the latter.

Direct competitors are other credit repair businesses.

Indirect competitors are other options that customers have to purchase from that aren’t directly competing with your product or service. This includes credit consultants, other types of credit advisors, and free credit service providers. You need to mention such competition as well.

For each such competitor, provide an overview of their business and document their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you once worked at your competitors’ businesses, it will be impossible to know everything about them. But you should be able to find out key things about them such as

  • What types of customers do they serve?
  • What type of credit repair business are they?
  • What is their pricing (premium, low, etc.)?
  • What are they good at?
  • What are their weaknesses?

With regards to the last two questions, think about your answers from the customers’ perspective. And don’t be afraid to ask your competitors’ customers what they like most and least about them.

The final part of your competitive analysis section is to document your areas of competitive advantage. For example:

  • Will you make it easier for your customers to acquire your product or service?
  • Will you offer products or services that your competition doesn’t?
  • Will you provide better customer service?
  • Will you offer better pricing?

Think about ways you will outperform your competition and document them in this section of your plan.  

Marketing Plan

Traditionally, a marketing plan includes the four P’s: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. For a credit repair business plan, your marketing strategy should include the following:

Product : In the product section, you should reiterate the type of credit repair company that you documented in your company overview. Then, detail the specific products or services you will be offering. For example, will you provide goodwill letters to creditors, credit monitoring, or paralegal services?

Price : Document the prices you will offer and how they compare to your competitors. Essentially in the product and price sub-sections of your plan, you are presenting the products and/or services you offer and their prices.

Place : Place refers to the site of your credit repair company. Document where your company is situated and mention how the site will impact your success. For example, is your credit repair business located in a busy retail district, a business district, a standalone office, or purely online? Discuss how your site might be the ideal location for your customers.

Promotions : The final part of your credit repair marketing plan is where you will document how you will drive potential customers to your location(s). The following are some promotional methods you might consider:

  • Advertise in local papers, radio stations and/or magazines
  • Reach out to websites
  • Distribute flyers
  • Engage in email marketing
  • Advertise on social media platforms
  • Improve the SEO (search engine optimization) on your website for targeted keywords

Operations Plan

While the earlier sections of your business plan explained your goals, your operations plan describes how you will meet them. Your operations plan should have two distinct sections as follows.

Everyday short-term processes include all of the tasks involved in running your credit repair business, including answering calls, meeting with clients, corresponding with creditors, billing and collecting payments, etc.

Long-term goals are the milestones you hope to achieve. These could include the dates when you expect to acquire your Xth client, or when you hope to reach $X in revenue. It could also be when you expect to expand your credit repair business to a new city.  

Management Team

To demonstrate your credit repair business’ potential to succeed, a strong management team is essential. Highlight your key players’ backgrounds, emphasizing those skills and experiences that prove their ability to grow a company.

Ideally, you and/or your team members have direct experience in managing credit repair businesses. If so, highlight this experience and expertise. But also highlight any experience that you think will help your business succeed.

If your team is lacking, consider assembling an advisory board. An advisory board would include 2 to 8 individuals who would act as mentors to your business. They would help answer questions and provide strategic guidance. If needed, look for advisory board members with experience in managing a credit repair business.  

Financial Plan

Your financial plan should include your 5-year financial statement broken out both monthly or quarterly for the first year and then annually. Your financial statements include your income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.  

Income Statement

An income statement is more commonly called a Profit and Loss statement or P&L. It shows your revenue and then subtracts your costs to show whether you turned a profit or not.

In developing your income statement, you need to devise assumptions. For example, will you work with 5 clients per day, and/or offer discounts for referrals? And will sales grow by 2% or 10% per year? As you can imagine, your choice of assumptions will greatly impact the financial forecasts for your business. As much as possible, conduct research to try to root your assumptions in reality.  

Balance Sheets

Balance sheets show your assets and liabilities. While balance sheets can include much information, try to simplify them to the key items you need to know about. For instance, if you spend $50,000 on building out your credit repair business, this will not give you immediate profits. Rather it is an asset that will hopefully help you generate profits for years to come. Likewise, if a lender writes you a check for $50,000, you don’t need to pay it back immediately. Rather, that is a liability you will pay back over time.  

Cash Flow Statement

Your cash flow statement will help determine how much money you need to start or grow your business, and ensure you never run out of money. What most entrepreneurs and business owners don’t realize is that you can turn a profit but run out of money and go bankrupt.

When creating your Income Statement and Balance Sheets be sure to include several of the key costs needed in starting or growing a credit repair business:

  • Cost of equipment and office supplies
  • Payroll or salaries paid to staff
  • Business insurance
  • Other start-up expenses (if you’re a new business) like legal expenses, permits, computer software, and equipment

Attach your full financial projections in the appendix of your plan along with any supporting documents that make your plan more compelling. For example, you might include your office location lease or a list of relevant professional certifications you possess.

Anthropic launches new iPhone app and premium plan for businesses

Anthropic, one of the world’s best-funded generative AI startups with $7.6 billion in the bank, is launching a new paid plan aimed at enterprises, including those in highly regulated industries like healthcare, finance and legal, as well as a new iOS app.

Team, the enterprise plan, gives customers higher-priority access to Anthropic’s Claude 3 family of generative AI models plus additional admin and user management controls.

“Anthropic introduced the Team plan now in response to growing demand from enterprise customers who want to deploy Claude’s advanced AI capabilities across their organizations,” Scott White, product lead at Anthropic, told TechCrunch. “ The Team plan is designed for businesses of all sizes and industries that want to give their employees access to Claude’s language understanding and generation capabilities in a controlled and trusted environment.”

The Team plan — which joins Anthropic’s individual premium plan, Pro — delivers “greater usage per user” compared to Pro, enabling users to “significantly increase” the number of chats that they can have with Claude. (We’ve asked Anthropic for figures.) Team customers get a 200,000- token (~150,000-word) context window as well as all the advantages of Pro, like early access to new features.

Context window, or context, refers to input data (e.g. text) that a model considers before generating output (e.g. more text). Models with small context windows tend to forget the content of even very recent conversations, while models with larger contexts avoid this pitfall — and, as an added benefit, better grasp the flow of data they take in.

Team also brings with it new toggles to control billing and user management. And in the coming weeks, it’ll gain collaboration features including citations to verify AI-generated claims (models including Anthropic’s tend to hallucinate ), integrations with data repos like codebases and customer relationship management platforms (e.g. Salesforce) and — perhaps most intriguing to this writer — a canvas to work with team members on AI-generated docs and projects, Anthropic says.

In the nearer term, Team customers will be able to leverage tool use capabilities for Claude 3, which recently entered open beta. This allows users to equip Claude 3 with custom tools to perform a wider range of tasks, like getting a firm’s current stock price or the local weather report, similar to OpenAI’s GPTs .

“By enabling businesses to deeply integrate Claude into their collaborative workflows, the Team plan positions Anthropic to capture significant enterprise market share as more companies move from AI experimentation to full-scale deployment in pursuit of transformative business outcomes,” White said. “In 2023, customers rapidly experimented with AI, and now in 2024, the focus has shifted to identifying and scaling applications that deliver concrete business value.”

Anthropic talks a big game, but it still might take a substantial effort on its part to get businesses on board.

According to a recent Gartner survey, 49% of companies said that it’s difficult to estimate and demonstrate the value of AI projects, making them a tough sell internally. A separate poll from McKinsey found that 66% of executives believe that generative AI is years away from generating substantive business results.

Anthropic Team

Yet corporate spending on generative AI is forecasted to be enormous. IDC expects that it’ll reach $15.1 billion in 2027 , growing nearly eightfold from its total in 2023.

That’s probably generative AI vendors, most notably OpenAI, are ramping up their enterprise-focused efforts.

OpenAI recently said that it had more than 600,000 users signed up for the enterprise tier of its generative AI platform ChatGPT, ChatGPT Enterprise . And it’s introduced a slew of tools aimed at satisfying corporate compliance and governance requirements, like a new user interface to compare model performance and quality.

Anthropic is competitively pricing its Team plan: $30 per user per month billed monthly, with a minimum of five seats. OpenAI doesn’t publish the price of ChatGPT Enterprise, but users on Reddit report being quoted anywhere from $30 per user per month for 120 users to $60 per user per month for 250 users. 

“Anthropic’s Team plan is competitive and affordable considering the value it offers organizations,” White said. “The per-user model is straightforward, allowing businesses to start small and expand gradually. This structure supports Anthropic’s growth and stability while enabling enterprises to strategically leverage AI.”

It undoubtedly helps that Anthropic’s launching Team from a position of strength.

Amazon in March completed its $4 billion investment in Anthropic ( following a $2 billion Google investment), and the company is reportedly on track to generate more than $850 million in annualized revenue by the end of 2024 — a 70% increase from an earlier projection. Anthropic may see Team as its logical next path to expansion. But at least right now it seems Anthropic can afford to let Team grow organically as it attempts to convince holdout businesses its generative AI is better than the rest.

An Anthropic iOS app

Anthropic’s other piece of news Wednesday is that it’s launching an iOS app. Given that the company’s conspicuously been hiring iOS engineers over the past few months, this comes as no great surprise.

The iOS app provides access to Claude 3, including free access as well as upgraded Pro and Team access. It syncs with Anthropic’s client on the web, and it taps Claude 3’s vision capabilities to offer real-time analysis for uploaded and saved images. For example, users can upload a screenshot of charts from a presentation and ask Claude to summarize them.

“By offering the same functionality as the web version, including chat history syncing and photo upload capabilities, the iOS app aims to make Claude a convenient and integrated part of users’ daily lives, both for personal and professional use,” White said. “It complements the web interface and API offerings, providing another avenue for users to engage with the AI assistant. As we continue to develop and refine our technologies, we’ll continue to explore new ways to deliver value to users across various platforms and use cases, including mobile app development and functionality.”

A retired Microsoft exec and his wife fell in love with RVing during the pandemic. Now he's using AI to help you plan your next road trip.

Scott Lengel and his wife, Lisa, were Marriott people.

After spending 23 years as a CTO at Microsoft , Lengel retired in 2017, at which point he and his wife knew they wanted to travel the world. They visited places like Cambodia, Vietnam, and India, typically traveling by plane and staying in hotels — often Marriotts.

Then the pandemic hit.

Suddenly, they were stuck at home in South Carolina. That's when the couple realized, "We really haven't seen the good old US of A."

Up until that point, they'd never even been camping .

"We figured if ever there was a time to go RVing, to go camping, this would be it," Lengel told Business Insider.

So they rented an RV and set off for Nashville with a couple of good friends. "We just had a blast," Lengel said. "Hanging around the campsite and the campfire and eating and beverages, and just the camaraderie. We just fell in love with the lifestyle of camping in one week."

Within six months, they purchased an RV of their own and started taking it all over. But when the couple tried to plan a six-week, multi-stop road trip to the national parks of the Southwest, they realized it was actually pretty challenging and that the existing resources were not great.

"There has to be a better way," they thought.

A couple of years later, in May 2023, Lengel launched AdventureGenie — an AI-powered RV trip planner. Lengel, who serves as chairman and CEO, said that in less than a year, AdventureGenie has attracted more than 10,000 users, and not just RVers, but also people traveling in cars on all kinds of road trips.

AI can customize trip planning

AdventureGenie is one of many AI-powered trip-planning tools that have popped up over the past couple of years. It's been featured on lists of the best RV- and road-trip planning AI tools.

AdventureGenie is set up to help people plan their trips in three phases, which Lengel said was based on talking to thousands of people about how they plan their trips.

First, you can shape your trip. You can tell AdventureGenie things like where you want to start, where you want to end, how many miles you want to drive in a day, and any places you know you want to stop along the way. AdventureGenie will create a custom route based on your preferences and what the program knows about you, either from what you've told it or from past trips you've planned.

Second, you can select your campsites. AdventureGenie uses AI to compile information about campsites and make recommendations based on your preferences. In addition to generating an overall score on a campsite, AdventureGenie also generates a score that is unique to you, indicating how likely a specific campground is to meet your personal needs.

Third, is finding things to do. For instance, if it knows you like eating at local restaurants, hiking, and biking, as Lengel and his wife do, it can point out those attractions.

The biggest thing AI brings to AdventureGenie's trip planning is the customization, Lengel said. Instead of looking up a generic road trip planner that is the first hit served to everyone on Google, AdventureGenie can create itineraries that are unique to you.

"It feels as if you have a copilot or a travel planner sitting by your side and knows what you're looking for and customizes it for you," Lengel said.

He said that when RVers first use AdventureGenie the "jaw-dropping" moment for them is when it fills in the blanks on a trip with stops along the way.

In the past, if you wanted to road trip from South Carolina to Yellowstone, you'd have to look at a map and try to plot out stops based on how many miles a day you want to drive. But you'd also have to manually figure out whether those stops have campsites that suit your needs, or if they have any other attractions that make them worth passing through, or how far off the highway they are.

Lengel said new AdventureGenie users often say it saves them so much time planning their trip just by filling in their route.

"That's pretty darn rewarding for us," he said.

From Microsoft to tech startup

Lengel, who came out of retirement to launch AdventureGenie, said working on this startup has been a major change of pace from his days at Microsoft, which he also loved.

"We're a startup at our core, and it's a lot different than when I was working for an organization that had 150,000 employees and an incredible budget," he said. "We all wear lots of hats, which has been exciting, thrilling, and even challenging from time to time."

These days, he and his wife are on the road three out of four weeks a month, though now it's usually for work, visiting trade shows and meeting with RV user groups.

However, they do still make a point to do some fun things, too.

When Lengel spoke to BI, he was sitting in his RV in the Florida Keys, with a view of the ocean right out his window .
