200 Words Essay On A Cricket Match

Cricket has gained popularity over the years since it was first played. Cricket, which is now the second most popular sport after soccer, is believed to have originated in England during the 16th century and has since spread throughout the globe.

Cricket matches are more of a festival in India than a typical sporting event. The players give the same effort because there is so much anticipation about India’s matches with other countries.

Watching Live | Recently, the cricket World Cup tournament was held, and as expected, people were more than just excited. We were unable to leave anyone behind, so we visited the stadium to watch the match live. As we were on our way, we saw people hurrying towards their homes to watch the match on their televisions. A group of people were going towards the stadium, just like us, because they wanted to see the match live.

The Match | The match began with a coin toss to determine the batting and fielding teams. The whole stadium was filled with people, and as our team won the toss and the batsmen came to the field, the crowd started to call their names; it sounded like a roar. The entire match gave us goosebumps as our team was performing well, and though the opposition was tough, the boys gave it their best. The game was extremely exciting; players ran, balls flew, and everything else that could possibly happen did.

Celebrations | As our team won, a huge cheer came from the crowd. People were going crazy. Later, after the match celebrations were held, everybody was happy and appreciating the efforts of the team, and the match stayed in the conversation for the rest of the week.

500 Words Essay On A Cricket Match

Cricket is the second-most popular sport in the world. There are 2.5 billion cricket fans worldwide, spread across 180 nations. The ICC Cricket World Cup is the most viewed cricket event. The governing body in charge of planning world cup competitions for international cricket is the International Cricket Council (ICC).

History Of Cricket

Cricket originated in England as a sport for royals in the 16th century; later, during the colonial period, it was adapted by the rajas and nawabs of India as they came into contact with the British. Eventually, the royals of India started organising matches for their own entertainment in which common people were allowed to participate, which started the enthusiasm for this sport in the country.

How It Is Played

In cricket, two teams of 11 players face off against each other, one batting and one bowling and fielding. The batting and bowling teams are chosen through a coin toss. The field is circular to oval, with the main batting and bowling taking place in the middle of the field, involving two batsmen from one team and a bowler and wicket-keeper from the opposing team, while the remaining nine players hold the ground to prevent the batsmen from scoring. There are two umpires on the ground who judge the decisions.

Cricket In India

In India, cricket is more of a festival than a sport; some even call it a religion. From young to old, men and women, everybody is a fan of cricket in our country. The players that represent our country at the international level and our states and schools at the national and regional level are paid so much respect by everybody. The fanaticism of cricket is so deep that if you ask a child what he wants to be when he grows up, the obvious answer will be that he wants to play cricket.

My Experience Of A Cricket Match

Recently, an inter-school tournament was held, and we got the chance to see our team play. The stadium was packed with both our team's and the opposing team's supporters. Everybody was cheering for their teams.

The Game | The game began with a coin toss to determine which team would bat first. Our team won the toss and chose to bat first, and the opponent team bowled first. Both teams were on the ground as the game began, and on the very first ball, our team captain, who was the opening player, hit a six, and the ball flew out of the boundary. This continued throughout the game; whenever a batsman hit a six or four, the entire stadium and cricket ground erupted in raucous cheers from the crowd.

The Excitement | The match was exciting because it had ups and downs; players got clean hits; there were catches; sneak runs; boundaries; everything enthralled the audience. Even the bowling part of our team was much more exciting than the batting part. Our team scored 150 runs and was successful in stopping the opposing team at 120 runs, so we won. The players were appreciated a lot, and everybody talked about the game for more than a week. The team members later got awarded by our principal and the chief guest.

Essay on a Cricket Match: Cricket is a popular sport involving two teams of eleven players and game accessories like balls, bats, stumps, headgear, etc. The main goal of each team is to score the highest number of runs possible. A well-maintained pitch or cricket field is where the game is played on. The game is famous in countries like England and India. Various formats and variations in the game regarding rules and duration are allowed.

Essay on A Cricket Match 500 Words in English

Below we have provided a Cricket Match Essay in English, written in easy and simple words for class 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

“Cricket to us was more than play; it was a worship in the summer sun.” ~ Edmund Charles Blunden

Two things have made their place in the heart of Indians forever; Shahrukh Khan (The King Khan of Bollywood) and the sport of cricket. In our country, cricket is a religion and players like Sachin Tendulkar are considered as god. This game is enjoyed by small children as well as office going adults. It never fails to amuse us. You can find people playing cricket in world-class stadiums as well as on every corner of a not so well-lit street. You can never know which side the match is going to go as nothing is sure till the last ball is bowled.

I remember being the witness to one such nail-biting finish. I’m sure that all cricket enthusiasts would still remember the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) Finale; how all of us were glued to our television screens and were just waiting for the clock to show 7:30 pm! But I was one of the very few lucky ones who got a chance to visit the stadium in Hyderabad and watch the roller coaster of a finale in front of my own eyes.

My family and I live in Delhi, but since my father is such a cricket lover, we had made plans in advance to watch the finale. It was going to be held in Chennai initially, but because of some reasons, the venue was shifted to the city of Hyderabad. We purchased the match tickets as soon as they went online. All of the thousands of tickets that were available were sold within a record -breaking time of 2 minutes.

That is a mere 120 seconds, just think about it! But then, this is something that one can expect when the two teams playing head-on against each other were Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The match was indeed a clash of the Titans. We landed at the Hyderabad airport and checked into our hotel. After taking a short 2- hour nap, we took a cab and set out for the stadium. There was so much traffic. It felt as if every person in the city was going to the stadium.

Our tickets were double-checked at the entry gate, and we then reached our seats. The stadium felt so lively and was full of people cheering and supporting their favourite team. I doubt if even one seat would have been empty! We were waiting for the toss to start while my father went to bring some snacks and cold drinks for my sister and me. Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians, won the toss and elected to bat first. We all were shouting at the top of our voices and just couldn’t wait for even one more second for the match to begin.

The match started and seemed to favour the yellow side. Mumbai Indians lost some of their crucial wickets early in the game including that of their captain for only 15 runs. Bowlers Deepak Chahar and Imran Tahir seemed to give the blue batsmen a tough time. The supporters of Mumbai Indians had suddenly turned very quiet. But then came Kieron Pollard and struck a new hope for his side. He played some brilliant shots that went literally through the roof! The blue side posted a score total of 149 runs for a loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. It was now time for the lions of Chennai to work magic with their bat.

The batsmen of Chennai Super Kings started quite well and kept the run rate exceptionally high. But as soon as Faf du Plessis lost his wicket, things started going south for the team. No other batsmen except for Shane Watson was able to perform exceedingly well. Even our favourite helicopter shot hitter, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was run out for only two runs. At the last ball, the Chennai side needed only one run to draw the game and two runs to claim the trophy.

If not anything else, the audience was expecting at least a super over. But one should not merely expect something beforehand when a talented bowler like Lasith Malinga stands with the ball in his hand on the other side. Malinga bowled a superb delivery under so much pressure. He bowled an LBW (Leg Before Wicket) and brought the Mumbai Indians to victory.

This game with its importance is also necessary to be understood by students for exams and hence Cricket Essay for Students in English becomes an important topic in English. Here is everything regarding the Cricket Essay for Students in English via Vedantu.

Cricket is a very popular game and is played at both national and international levels. This game originated in England. Cricket was introduced to the Indians by the British in the early 1700s. This game rules in everyone’s heart in India and so it can be called the “king of the games”. Millions of fans watch this game, and there is an air of excitement everywhere. It is enjoyed by the old and young. Over the years, this game has gathered a huge fan-base, who connects emotionally with it in our country.

History of Cricket

The game of cricket goes long back to British times. When it was introduced in India, very few people played this game. The Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh brought this game into limelight. He was a great patron of sports. He played cricket and he had his own team. Cricket was his second love after his kingdom. He was the man behind the golden history of cricket due to his passion for the game. His team Patiala XI was the best team during that time and he was the captain of the Indian team. He himself sponsored his teams for the tours to England.

How is Cricket Played?

Cricket is a game played by two teams of eleven players each on a pitch with two sets of three stumps, which are called wickets. The bowler bowls the ball down the pitch to the batsman of the opposing team, who must defend the wickets in front of which he stands. The target of the game is to score as many runs as possible.

Runs are scored by individual players by running on the playing strip (called pitch) between the wickets, or by hitting a ball that flies outside the boundary of the playground or which falls inside the boundary but bounces or rolls outside. When the balls go directly outside the boundary, the batsman scores six runs, and when the ball falls within the boundary but rolls outside then the batsman scores four runs. The opponent team will bowl and field and their objective is to take the wickets for each of the batsmen playing on the pitch.

A batsman can be dismissed in one of several ways: by the bowler hitting the wicket with the ball, which is called, bowled; by a fielder catching the ball hit by the batsman before it touches the ground and it is called caught; by the wicket-keeper or another fielder breaking the stumps while the batsman attempts a run and is therefore out of his ground. This is called stumped or run out. A batsman can also be dismissed if the batsman breaks the wicket with his own bat or body and this is called a hit wicket; by a part of the batsman’s body being hit by a ball that would otherwise have hit the wicket is called leg before the wicket or “lbw”.

A match consists of one or two innings, and each inning ends when the tenth batsman of the batting team is out, when a certain number of overs (an over: a series of six balls bowled) have been played or when the captain of the batting team declares ending the innings voluntarily.

Forms of Cricket

There are three forms of cricket: Test matches, one-day internationals, and T20 internationals.

A Village Cricket Match Lesson Summary and Explanation in English Class 10th

Table of Contents

Introduction

A.G. Macdonell’s novel England, Their England is a sarcastic humorous tale depicting 1920s English urban and rural society. A Village Cricket Match is an excerpt from the novel. The chapter is a satirical commentary of a village cricket match being played between a local team of amateur Scottish villagers and professional English players from the city.

Level Scores

The chapter begins in an anxious stage of the match with both sides struggling to level up. Shakespeare Pollock, Southcott and Hodge were the fielders. The batsmen guarded tenaciously, hunkered down on their bats. A single came from a snick through the slips. A run was brought by a ball that escaped the publisher’s massive pads. The batsmen, who were inherently careful men, one being old and the sexton, the other being a postman and hence a Government employee, were not taking any chances and thus did not take a run although they could.

Then came another single off a mis-hit, followed by an eternity in which no wickets fell and no runs were scored. It was finally broken disastrously when the postman smacked the ball hard at Mr. Pollock, who snatched it up and threw it frantically towards the wicket in a surge of enthusiasm. There were two overthrows as a result. The scores were equal, and two wickets remained to be taken. Then there was silence. The gaffers, who were experiencing both joy and senility, could hardly lift their beer pots.

Throughout the narration, the author presented amusing scenes for the readers. The sexton, a guy of solid muscle from his years of digging, struck it square with the middle of the bat, and it flashed like a meteor, straight at the young man in the blue jumper. With a piercing cry, the young man leapt backward out of the way and collapsed onto his back. The enormous Boone stood just behind him. He had no hope of getting away and was struck in his belly. It was an accidental catch but a grumpy Boone received mass applause. Now, the scores were level with one wicket to fall.

The injured and limping blacksmith was the last man left and the villagers’ last hope too. The baker was going to run for him. He swung aggressively at the first ball he got and sent it straight up into the air to an incredible height. This narration gets quite eventful and the author is a particular kind of genius to depict a cricket ball flying in the air, then keep readers captivated for three pages with a precise, rapid narrative until it lands.

Chaos ensues and all three batsmen sprint to gain a run for victory. The three collided halfway down the pitch with a tremendous clang. With the catastrophic defeat of their three champions, the village’s aspirations were wrecked. There was also uncertainty and disorganization among the fielders. The two cracks, Livingstone and Southcott, were approaching with speed. It would be easy for either of them to catch it. Mr. Hodge had to not only choose amongst them but also make a quick decision.

He first yelled for Livingstone to go for the ball but then after another quick thought, changed his call to Bobby. This led to Bobby Southcott rushing forward and stumbling over Donald, causing him to be shot headfirst into Boone’s chest. The result that followed was nothing but a series of unfortunate events as the professor got sandwiched between Boone and Livingstone.

Finally, the ball came down and hit the professor’s head. The ball then jumped a foot or so into the air, pinged on Boone’s head, and then trickled down the wicketkeeper’s back.  Mr. Shakespeare Pollock leaped into the maelstrom with a final ear-splitting roar of victory and grabbed it off the wicket-keeper’s trousers – only a foot from the ground. The game was a draw. However, the players of Fordenden unaware of this still attempted to land a victory, yet again making a mistake. They all ran for the same wicket, realised their blunder at the same time, and turned around to run for the other.

But their effort was in vain, for Mr. Pollock had grabbed the ball and the match was a tie. In the end, both teams spent the evening at The Three Horseshoes, where Mr. Harcourt spoke in Italian about England’s glory. Donald returned home to Royal Avenue at 1 a.m., feeling that his experience of their national game had taught him little about the English.

The chapter undoubtedly delivers a rather comical description of the match which ensures the readers a burst of hearty laughter. One learns a lot about cricket from this narration. The narrator outlines the strengths, weaknesses, peculiarities, and nobility of the individuals who have gathered to guard their wickets and score runs.

A Cricket Match – Essay in English

admin September 1, 2017 Essays in English 20,623 Views

It was held in our town’s sports stadium. Our team had been preparing for weeks for this important match, and was in a very confident mood. A big crowd had turned up for the match. Both the teams marched into the ground, and a coin was tossed. The rival team’s captain won the toss and decided to bat first. Their opening players were

surely one of the best that I had seen. They put up 94 on the scoreboard before their partnership was broken. However, the rest of their team could not do so much, and their total stood at 221 for 8 at the end of 50 overs.

Then our team came to play. To our horror, our opener was out for just 5 runs. But we soon cheered up when our team captain walked in with a determined face. And how he played! It was a pleasure to watch him hit one boundary after another. Our opponents lost their confidence.

Essay on “One Day Cricket Match ” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

ONE DAY CRICKET — THE CRAZE OF THE DAY

Game is a game ; one must play it in the spirit of game.                                  — Anonymous

Cricket is a game known for its wonderful glories, fluctuating fortunes and tantalizing suspense.  It is popular with men and women of all ages and almost all times.  Whenever there is a cricket match, people crowd the playing fields in thousands or sit glued to their television sets for days.  A cricket match used to be a long drawn out affair.  But things changed with the introduction of one-day matches.

The one day matches made cricket so popular that cricket players came to be celebrated more than the heroines or the heroes for the world of the theater.  Various advertising companies hired the services of some of these players on fat payments.  Some of the players developed a craze for instant with the bookies who used to stake huge fortunes over the result of the matches.  The controversy arising out of the match-fixing is still fresh in every mind and charges and counter charges are being looked into by the authorities.  Some players in some countries have already been found guilty and punished.  All this is certainly against the very spirit of the game.

From instant coffee to instant cricket, the journey has not been very long.  In this jet age everything fast is acceptable and anything moving at a slow pace is instantly rejected by the people.  Only 30 years ago in the seventies, the five-day cricket matches inspired a lot of interest.  Though the majority of these matches ended in a draw, yet they did cause a lot of excitement.  Today a 5-day cricket match no longer holds the interest of the people to that extent.  Far from it, it is being termed as out-dated or boring.

What has come to be known as one-day cricket or instant cricket, has very effectively replaced the traditional five-day matches.  Today in most of the world tournaments, it is only the one-day cricket that rules the roost.  This particular kind of match cannot exceed a day as each team plays only limited overs.  That is why it is also called limited overs cricket.  Each team plays a fixed number of overs and tries to score the maximum runs, without caring much for the fall of wickets.  It is only the runs that not much time to contemplate or to watch.  The entire atmosphere is filled with excitement throughout the match.  The match moves with speed and there is action all through.  Either the wickets fall or the runs keep coming in.  There is movement, spirit, action and fun all over the field.

This kind of cricket has certainly caught the fancy of the people.  The result of game is out by evening and the suspense is over.

There is no need to wait for five days for the outcome of the result.  Time flies very fast in such matches.  These days people do not have many days to spare for entertainment.  In the good old days, people used to take things in a leisurely way and kept watching a cricket match for days on end.  The matches used to be quite slow because the intention of every player was to stick to the wicket for as long as possible and score slowly at ease.  There was hardly any action in majority of the matches.

It is because of these factors only that there was a swift change to instant cricket.  In one-day matches people can relish the game without having to wait for the result of five or six long days.  Fours and sixes have become a common feature in instant cricket.  In a matter of a few hours only, more than 600 runs are often hit up by both the teams.  Runs flow off the bat like autumn leaves while wickets fall like nine pins.  Spectators demand a six every now and then.  Instant cricket has attracted people of all ages.  Once the series starts, there is hardly any work done in the offices.  Students miss classes and office-goers miss their work.  Everybody sits glued to his or her television set to watch the game.  Instant cricket has caught on like wild fire.  It thrills every soul, young or old.  Time is not far off when 5-day matches will become a thing of the past only.

Essay on Cricket Match with Quotes for FSC 2nd Year

Last month I got a chance to see a one-day cricket match played between our National team and the Indian team. Our college announced a holiday to witness this match. We had bought the tickets two days before they reached the stadium at 9 O’clock. We were surprised to see all the enclosures fully packed. Men, women, children and old persons from every walk of life had come to see this match. Fortunately, we got seats near the commentary box.

“Cricket is a pressure game, and when it comes to an India-Pakistan match the pressure is doubled.” (Imran Khan)

The match started at 10 O’clock. Waqar Younis, the Captain of the Pakistan team won the toss. He invited the Indians to play first. Both the openers of the Indian Team were experienced batsmen. But they could not play confidently before the Pakistani bowlers. The wicket was giving great help to the fast bowlers like Waseem Akram and Waqar Younis. In the first five overs, they took two wickets against only ten runs. It appeared that the whole Indian team would not be able to score even one hundred runs. But the careful batting by Tendulkar and Laxman gave good support to their team. But Waqar made a wise change by introducing Mushtaq from the college end. His ball was taking a sharp turn and he took the important wicket of Laxman in his first over. The fielding of our team was perfect and they were enjoying the home ground. People clapped and danced when Shoaib took a very difficult catch. Our Wicket Keeper Rashid showed a wonderful performance by stumping out three Indian players. Two of them were run-out and the last three batsmen were caught behind the wickets. At last, the whole team was out after making only one hundred and fifty runs.

Champions never sleep, the eternal spirit keeps them alert and awake.”

There was a break of one hour between the two innings. We also had our lunch. The stadium was picturesque. Especially, the ladies enclosure looked very attractive. People were holding the national flags and banners in their hands and waving them.

“A true batsman should in most of his strokes tell the truth about himself.” (Neville Cardus)

Pakistanis started their innings and Shahid came to pen with Saeed. The target was quite easy and our batsmen played aggressive shots from the very beginning. The captain of the Indian team tried many bowlers one after the other, but he could not succeed to break the partnership. Both the openers scored eighty runs. Then came the great Inzi and Yousaf who loved to hit the ball with full force. Whenever they scored a boundary, people enjoyed and jumped at their seats. In this way, Pakistan defeated India by seven wickets. Shahid was declared the man of the match. It was a match that we can remember forever.

“A trophy carries dust. Memories last forever.” (Mary Lou Retton)
