Kashmir Day Speech For School In English

Today I bring the topic of 5 February Kashmir Day Speech for School in English under my discussion in simple worlds. Kashmir Solidarity Day or simply the Kashmir Day is illustrated by the harmony of Pakistanis and Kashmiris in the favor of the nation of Jammu Kashmir is the state of Pakistan but not of India. Well, here before starting the details of my speech, I would like to differentiate the Azad Kashmir and Jammu Kashmir. These are two states of Kashmir where the Azad Kashmir comes under the regimen of Pakistan, while the Jammu Kashmir is also a state of Kashmir which is administrated by India. Back in August 1947, when Pakistan and India were separated from sub-continent as two independent countries the Kashmir officially came under the territory of Pakistan, but the then-prime minister of Kashmir was Maharaja Hari Singh who said that Kashmir will be the part of India. Later that it was decided that the Kashmir will be tore into parts; Azad Kashmir and Jammu Kashmir. Since then till date, Kashmir is a bone of contention between India and Pakistan.

Best emotional Speech on Kashmir day in English

My honor, Kashmiris have done what they could. But the history brings to light the question: O Pakistanis, what have you done for your fellow Kashmiris? They have suffered for a long – just because of their demand for annexation to Pakistani. What have you given in return?

Let's recall today the message of Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who, while addressing the Kashmiris laid the course of action for all of us. While addressing the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference on 26 Oct 1946 – he remarkably said:

My message and earnest appeal to Muslim leadership in Kashmir is: Organize your people, educationally, socially, economically and politically and set your hand on constructive nation building programme.

Mr. President, we need to revive our conscience, awake our senses and follow the call to action. This day should not merely be a commemorative day. It should be the day of allegiance. The day of pledging allegiance to the cause. Kashmir will never be sovereign, Mr. President, unless we get to fix the internal cracks in Muslim Ummah. Unless the sectarian fire is extinguished.

Unless our Muslim stakeholders take pain for Kashmiris. Unless the Kashmir dispute is voiced well in the international community. Unless the world comes to know the heinous atrocities of so-called democratic India in Kashmir over seventy years. Unless we are united. Unless we are devoted. Let's make a vow to God, to our conscience, to our blood – for surfacing the Kashmir issue with all zeal and zest.

With the immense hope that one day the sun of independence will dawn upon the beautiful valley. And our fellow Kashmiris will have a peaceful and prosperous life. As Faiz Ahmed Faiz writes:

And we oppressed Beneath our feet will have this earth shiver, shake and beat And heads of rulers will be struck With crackling lightening and thunder roars.

Indian throne will soon be reduced to ashes; Kashmir will be ours! Pakistan Zindabad!

Speech On Kashmir Day In English With Poetry

Respectable Teachers, Staff, and All my friends! Assalam-o-Alaikum. Today the topic on I’m going to talk about is Kashmir day Kashmir is a place that is no less than heaven. The land is surrounded by beautiful mountains with beautiful lakes and gardens of Fruits. Further, the Speech On Kashmir Day In English With Poetry is read below.

As we all know, what is the biggest intention is going to Asia? It was fixed before the Partition that, all the Muslim-majority areas will be given to Pakistan and similarly, the remaining Hindu-majority areas will be given to India. But India doesn’t want to give a beautiful area of Kashmir to Pakistan. So, they sent their forces to Kashmir and occupied this Muslim majority Area. The whole world was seeing what was going on here. But the whole world steals their eyes from this issue then and now they regret it. Every night, the Kashmiri close their eyes to a dream that is not going to true in 1947. Further, info about the speech on the Kashmir issue in English for students is listed below.

Speech On Kashmir Day In English With Poetry

Suna he Boht Sasta he Khoon Wahan Ka Aik Basti he jise Log Kashmir Kehte Hen

Just after the partition, when Pakistan acknowledged the thinking of India about Kashmir, they appealed to the United Nations about it. There are a number of Resolutions that were done by the UN on the Kashmir Issue but all are in vain. As we read the books of big politicians of the world, they all have clearly written that India doesn’t have to think that Kashmir is their property. As all of the Kashmiris from children to young and from young to old, they just have a single slogan on their lips:

Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan

With the partition, the Indian Government sent the army to occupy Kashmir and kill everyone who wanted freedom. There are thousands of Kashmiris who have lost their lives from the partition of the Sub-continent. In 2014, when the government of BJP came into existence, the cruelty in Kashmir increased by great numbers. The world just sees what has been done to non-Muslims of the world, but they can’t see what is happening with the Muslims of the World.

Yaran-e-Jahan Kehte hen Kashmir he Jannat Kashmir Kisi Kafir Ko mili he Na Mile Gi

Readmore, Speech On Kashmir Day In English With Poetry. It is true that Kasmir is one of the most beautiful places in the world and from then, the people have faced so much but Peace is upon their strengths and patience, that they never felt disappointed and they have never felt it is the property of India. Every Kashmiri wakes up with the prayer that this day will not be his last day in the world. It is true that they have all been doing Jihad from the day they came into this world. But what can we say about it? Pakistan has always raised its voice on this issue and always called the world to stand up with Kashmir. 5th February Kashmir Solidarity Day is a national holiday.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister himself went to the UN and there, he made a historic speech that directly referred to the voice of Kashmiris. The world is standing like they are on the other planet and can’t see Kashmir. Kashmiris are on the faith that:

It’s better to die Fighting for Freedom than to live Life as a Slave

From this, it is clear that India is asserting their right to property, which was never a part of India. So, in the end, I would like to say:

Kashmir was not part of India and it will never be. Inshallah! This is a short speech on Kashmir.

Kashmir Day Poetry, Quotes, Speech, Posters, History and Songs

Photo of Shakila Nasreen

Kashmir day is also known as “Kashmir Solidarity Day” in Pakistan. In 1990, the Chief Minister of Punjab Nawaz Sharif called the political and religious parties to celebrate 5th February as Solidarity Day with the Kashmiris.

So, for the first time, the Kashmir day was celebrated on 5th Feb in 1990. He appealed the people to protest against India that has occupied a big part of Kashmir and does not let the Kashmiris live in the peaceful state.

So, the appeal was followed by the Pakistanis, and there were rallies, protest processions, speeches and prayers for the Kashmiri freedom movement across the land. The ruling party declared the day as a “Public Holiday” at that time.

The day is recognized on the international level. Now, every year on 5th Feb, Pakistanis celebrates Kashmir Day to support their Kashmiri Brethren in their struggle against the atrocities of Indian.

The people living in occupied Kashmir have been making efforts to breathe in the free air for the last seven decades. The Indian armed forces interrupt their freedom and have occupied their lands forcefully. They are struggling to set their country free and to live with freedom from India. Pakistanis support their aim, and they stand united with the Kashmiri people against India.

It is equally important for political parties and religious parties in Pakistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir. The political and religious parties in both the lands organize rallies, processions, conferences, and seminars to show their devotion towards their Kashmiri Brethren.

Kashmir Day Poetry

The leaders and spokespersons of the parties make speeches to show their unity and devotion towards Kashmir and Kashmiri people. The people of Pakistan make the freedom movement of Kashmiris strengthened against Indian occupation. Kashmiris hate Indian occupation on their lands, and they are making struggle and sacrificing their lives to set their country free out of the foreign occupation. The Kashmiris want to live a free life and India wants to keep Kashmir as an Indian territory forcibly. However, Pakistan supports Kashmiri people and their freedom to live as an independent state.

Initially, the Kashmir Solidarity day was observed in Pakistan. Now it has been observed on international levels. Pakistanis wherever they are, celebrate this day to show solidarity and devotion towards Kashmiris. For this purpose, the poets from various parts of the world write heart touching poems. The poems also show how much passionate love they are bearing in their hearts for Kashmir. Here, I am going to give a few examples of the poetry on Kashmir day. The poets from Pakistan, Kashmir and even from other countries have written about the freedom of Kashmir to make the world aware of the unjust and forceful occupation of India over Kashmir. Some poems are in Urdu while others are in English. Find them below.

Poem: FREE KASHMIR

Bodies all dusted.

Choices all busted.

Voices all gusted.

Rights all rusted.

The schools like barracks.

The play fields like Graveyards.

Buried all freedom lied in the backyards.

Speaking a word here brings you thousand hazards.

Calling themselves doves are all Jeopard’s.

with due regards to all nationalistic retards.

I want to say that Free Kashmir is on the cards.

Kashmir is Bleeding

Kashmir is bleeding,

Kashmiris are bleeding,

Bodies are bleeding,

Hearts are bleeding,

blood dipping from veins,

blood dipping from arteries,

some people are celebrating,

blood parties,

soil is red, rivers are red,

kashmiris are knot with blood thread,

every color is replaced with red,

every soul is forced dead,

sometimes you see headless, bodies,

sometimes you see bodies, headless,

people of Kashmir are peace less, restless,

Bullets and shells is the game of forces,

youths are taught, jail courses,

Eyes are blinded, legs are broken,

mothers are left, unspoken,

Kashmir is receiving rain of tears,

the world enjoys, no one cares,

Kashmir is a story of children less parent, parent less children,

unknown graves, land of martyr’s,

half widows and full widows,

disappearances and PSA’s,

custodial killings and killing at doors,

Kashmiri’s are kept under wicked veil,

so that their pains, no one feel,

The stream of blood is kept flowing,

Kashmiri’s are forced to keep roaring,

when will this blood shedding come to an end, o! world?

when will we live fearless, and bold?

Poem: Kashmir is Burning

Koi awaz ab uthaye ki kashmir jal raha hai

Koi insaf ab dilaye ki kashmir jal raha hai

Har fard hai pareshan, bechain o dil shikasta

Koi marham inhein lagaye ki kashmir jal raha hai

Maon ki goad suni, har baap tadap raha hai

Koi inki sunle haye ki kashmir jal eaha hai

Zalim hai sena tane, mazloom hai besahara

Koi zulm ab mitaye ki kashmir jal raha hai

Din mai bhi hai andhera, khurshed bhi hai benoor

Koi shamma banke aaye ki kashmir jal raha hai

Poem: Kashmiri Woman

No one knows her here by her name,

the one who is sitting mum

there on a wooden log,

the woman whose son was slaughtered

with a chainsaw,

is the only identity she has

in this refugee camp.

Poem: Kashmiri Family

The night they fled,

leaving behind their village, home, hearth

and half-cooked bread on the stove,

who had come to see them

a night before that night?

And why didn’t they open their windows

and door, for anyone after that?

Even before they could tell us,

why they had not been able to look

into the eyes of their daughters

ever since then…

a *Chinar falls,

making a creaking sound,

they could never tell us all,

what they really wanted to…!

Poem: Kashmir

They have in their memories

their home, and the only flower

blooming in their backyard,

and a cot left outside,

soaking in the pouring rain,

the night they fled.

They have in their memories,

their dialogues, laughter,

and sweet sun,

and everything else,

they could not bring along,

with themselves,

and their little ones,

who did not return home,

after they went to play,

soon after the day,

when snow in the valley

had melted away!

Poem: Kashmiri Hates India

They set off explosives in their roots,

and separated them from their lands,

I wonder, what did they whisper in their ears,

and separated them from their lands?

The snow storms hit the valley, striking Chinars,

where would the fallen Chinars go now?

They will dry up, and set ablaze,

we all know that,

we all know, that their ashes

would still like to return

but to their valleys only.

Kashmir Day Quotes

Kashmir Day is not a day when people get a public holiday in Pakistan. It has become a very important day for Pakistanis. On this day, they stand united to show their devotions for Kashmir and Kashmiri people. They send different SMS and quotes to their friends and relatives to show solidarity with Kashmiri brethren.

They are fighting a continuous war to get freedom from the Indian occupation. Indian armed forces are trying to press their voices for freedom by slaughtering the Kashmiris. But they cannot make their voices silent as Pakistanis are standing with them united. The 5th Feb is a symbol of Kashmiris’ voice on the international forum so that they could get their rights and live a free life.

Pakistan is always with them in every difficult time so that they could not be suppressed by the Indian forces. They make a big nation, and they need to decide their fate by a freedom referendum. Pakistan supports their rights as they are also human beings beyond their religion. Indian does not want to let the occupied land go. That’s why it is violating human rights and wants then Kashmiris to be Indian slaves forever. However, Pakistan supports the Kashmir resolution and their freedom movement wholeheartedly. On the issue of Kashmir, all ruling and opposition parties, religious parties and even the people from every walk of life are united.

The quotes, I am going to discuss here will also explain how Pakistani people feel about Kashmir and Kashmiri people. These quotes explain the feelings of Pakistani people wherever they are. It does not matter they are living in Pakistan thousands of miles away from Kashmiri people. Still, their hearts beat with Kashmiris all the time. The quotes below are from the people from every walk of life. These quotes are from the political leaders, Ulamas, and writers of Pakistan to show their true feelings for Kashmir and Kashmiris.

India is using troops in Kashmir. They are losing the battle of heart and minds. It’s like treating cancer with dispirin. (Imran Khan)

We must learn from history; there is no military solution for the Kashmir issue…we have to understand this reality. (Pervez Musharraf)

I will take back Kashmir, all of it, and I will not leave behind a single inch of it because, like the other provinces, it belongs to Pakistan. (Bilawal Bhutto Zardari)

“The Tug of War between India and Pakistan continues, as Kashmir bleeds”

Suna Hai Bohat Sasta Hai Khoon Wahan

Ik Basti, Jisay Log Kashmir Kehtay Hain

Is Aas Pe Aarish Hum Ne Zindagi Luta Di

Meri Khaak Se Watan Mien Kuch To Haryaali Hogi

Yaran-E-Jahan Kehte Hain

Kashmir Ha Jannat

Jannat Kisi Kafir Ko Mili Ha Na Mily Gi !!

INSHAH ALLAH

It’s Better to Die! Fighting for Freedom, Then! To Live Life in Slave

Say “NO” to Indian BRUTALITY in KASHMIR

Aaj Wo Kashmir Hai Mehkum-o-Majboor-o-Faqeer

Kal Jisay Ahl-e-Nazar Kehtay Thay Iran-e-Sagheer

Kashmir Day Speeches

On 5th Feb, there are different seminars and rallies in all over Pakistan to pay tribute to Kashmiris for sacrificing their lives for the freedom movement. In Pakistan, 5th Feb is observed as a public holiday that was first observed in 1990 in Pakistan.

It was not only in 1990, but in 1975, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the then president of Pakistan announced a nationwide strike on 5th February. It was announced to support Kashmiris in their freedom movement and to ensure Pakistani support for them in every crucial moment.

Kashmiris are sacrificing their lives for the security of their lands, and till now, Indian armed forces are helpless before Kashmiri people. The Kashmiri people hate India and Indian forces. They do not want them to interrupt their freedom. They want to get their country back from foreign occupation and want to live a free life.

Pakistan supports the rights of Kashmiri people and wants India to set the land free and let the Kashmiri people live a peaceful life. But India has occupied Kashmir due to its geographical importance. Kashmiris are entirely resolute to make their land free of foreign occupation.

They want to aware the rest of the world about the atrocities of the Indian armed forces on Kashmiris. So, in the entire world, 5th Feb is observed as a day when Kashmiri people and even Pakistan can represent the rights of Kashmiris. It is on 5th Feb that different parties, religious leaders and organizations hold seminars to let the world know what is going on in Kashmir. They make the people aware of the cruelties of India over the Kashmiris.

Now, some straightforward people in Indian media also support fairly to Kashmiri people’s rights. They also want the Kashmiris to decide their own fate. So, due to the media, there is great awareness to the people of the world regarding what is going on in Kashmir and what should be the solution.

Kashmir Day Posters

Every year Pakistan observes 5th Feb as a Kashmir Day. This day is very important in the lives of Pakistanis whether living in Pakistan or abroad. Every Pakistani observes 5th Feb as a solidarity day for Kashmiri Brethren.

They pay tribute to Kashmiris for struggling against the cruelties and atrocities of Indian armed forces by sending them SMS, quotes, posters and even videos regarding 5th Feb. Kashmir Day is not only a public holiday for Pakistanis but also a reminder for the rest of the world regarding the sacrifices of Kashmiris and their usurped rights by the Indian Armed Forces.

On this day, Pakistani people use to send SMS and posters showing devotion and a new inspiration for the freedom movement of Kashmir. The poster competitions are held in different organizations to encourage them to make unique and novel posters regarding 5th Feb. Kashmir day is not only considered important in Pakistan but also Azad Jammu Kashmir.

They also observe this day as a Solidarity Day for the people living in the occupied part of Kashmir. Many people participate in poster and speech competitions to show their skills and talent. The only purpose of organizing such competitions is to show the Kashmiris and the world that Kashmir is still bleeding and Pakistan is standing united with Kashmiris in every crucial time. In various parts of the country, the people make a human-made chain of hands to show the unity with the Kashmiris in their difficult times.

5th Feb

Kashmir Day History

Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed officially in Pakistan on 5th Feb every year. The first time, it was observed in 1975 when the President of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto declared that there would be a nationwide strike on 5th Feb to show devotion for Kashmir resolution. Later, In 1990, Qazi Hussain Ahmad suggested the ruling party of Pakistan to announce 5th Feb as a Solidarity Day to Kashmiri people. The then Chief Minister of Punjab, Nawaz Sharif declared 5th Feb as a public holiday to show the solidarity towards Kashmiri people. The question arises that what happened at that time that the CM Punjab announced this day as a solidarity day? Let me explain. In 1990, the Indian Government appointed a new governor of Occupied Kashmir to Gug Mohan. Kashmiris protested against this decision, and they boycotted the new governor to show the world the true face of India. It was a historic protest when the Indian forces brutally martyred a large number of Kashmiri people. The aroma of their blood was prevailing in the entire Kashmir valley. They were tortured by the Indian forces brutally for protesting against the Indian government. However, no cruelty could make them retreated from their resolution. So, 5th Feb was declared a solidarity day in Pakistan by the then CM Punjab.

So, It has been a part of Pakistan public holidays since 1990. It is not observed as a public holiday, however. The people belonging to different walks of life organize various speech and post competitions to show the world how Kashmiris are struggling against the foreign occupation. The people in Pakistan show their support to Kashmiris in their struggle against Indian armed forces.

Kashmir Day Songs

Kashmir Day is celebrated as a solidarity day in Pakistan. On this occasion, Pakistani people pay tribute to Kashmiris and stand united with them in their difficult times. Pakistani singers do not forget them and compose different songs to make the Kashmiris well aware of the support of Pakistani people with them. It is celebrated officially as a solidarity day for Kashmiri brethren. Even the official media channel of Pakistani armed forces releases the songs on this memorable day to commemorate the memories of martyred Kashmiris.

Different schools and organizations show their unity with the Kashmiris by organizing Kashmir Day songs competitions. The inspiring words are used to show the feelings of Kashmiris in the songs. Here are a few songs regarding Kashmir Day.

Speech at the Prayer Meeting on 4th January 1948

Today there is talk of war everywhere. Everyone fears a war breaking out between the two countries. If that happens it will be a calamity both for India and for Pakistan. India has written to the U.N. because whenever there is a fear of conflict anywhere the U.N. is asked to promote a settlement and to stop fighting from breaking out. India therefore wrote to the U. N. O. however trivial the issue may appear to be, it could lead to a war between the two countries. It is a long memorandum and it has been cabled. Pakistan’s leaders Zafrullah Khan and Liaquat Ali Khan have since issued long statements. I would take leave to say that their argument does not appeal to me. You may ask if I approve of the Union Government approaching the UNO I may say that I both approve and do not approve of what they did. I approve of it, because after all what else are they to do? They are convinced that what they are doing is right. If there are raids from outside the frontier of Kashmir, the obvious conclusion is that it must be with the connivance of Pakistan. Pakistan can deny it. But the denial does not settle the matter. Kashmir has acceded the accession upon certain conditions. If Pakistan harasses Kashmir and if Sheikh Abdullah who is the leader of Kashmir asks the Indian Union for help, the latter is bound to send help. Such help therefore was sent to Kashmir. At the same time Pakistan is being requested to get out of Kashmir and to arrive at a settlement with India over the question through bilateral negotiations. If no settlement can be reached in this way then a war is inevitable. It is to avoid the possibility of war that the Union Government has taken the step it did. Whether they are right in doing so or not God alone knows. Whatever might have been the attitude of Pakistan, if I had my way I would have invited Pakistan’s representatives to India and we could have met, discussed the matter and worked out some settlement. They keep saying that they want an amicable settlement but they do nothing to create the conditions for such a settlement. I shall therefore humbly say to the responsible leaders of Pakistan that though we are now two countries – which is a thing I never wanted – we should at least try to arrive at an agreement so that we could live as peaceful neighbors. Let us grant for the sake of argument that all Indians are bad, but Pakistan at least is a new-born nation which has more ever come into being in the name of religion and it should at least keep itself clean. But they themselves make no such claim. It is not their argument that Muslims have committed no atrocities in Pakistan. I shall therefore suggest that it is now their duty, as far as possible, to arrive at an amicable understanding with India and live in harmony with her. Mistakes were made on both sides. Of this o have no doubt. But this does not mean that we should persist in those mistakes, for then in the end we shall only destroy ourselves in a war and the whole of the sub-continent will pass into the hands of some third power. That will be the worst imaginable fate for us. I shudder to think of it. Therefore the two Dominions should come together with God as witness and find a settlement. The matter is now before the UNO. It cannot be withdrawn from there. But if India and Pakistan come to a settlement the big powers in the UNO will have to endorse that settlement. They will not object to the settlement. They themselves can only say that they will do their best to see that the two countries arrive at an understanding through mutual discussions. Let us pray to God is to grant that we may either learn to live in amity with each other or if we must light to let us fight to the very end. That may be folly but sooner or later it will purify us. Now a few words about Delhi. I came to know of the incidents which took place last evening through Brijkishan. I had gone to the Camp for the evening prayer. I came away after the prayer but he had stayed over to talk to the people in the Camp. There are some Muslim houses at as little distance from the Camp. About four or five hundred inmates of the Camp mostly women and children but also some men – issued out of the Camp to take possession of the houses. I am told they did not indulge in any kind of violence. Some of the houses were vacant. Some were occupied by the owners. They tried to take possession even of the latter. The police were near at hand. They immediately went to the spot and brought the situation under control at about 9 O’ clock according to the information I have. The police have stayed on there. I understand they had to use tear gas. Tear gas does not kill but it can be pretty painful. I am told that something has happened today again. All I can say is that is a matter of great shame for us. Have not the refugees learnt even from their immense suffering that they have to exercise some restraint? It is highly improper to go and occupy other people’s houses. It is for the Government to find them shelter or whatever else their need. Today the Government is our own. But if we defy our own Government and defy the police and forcibly occupy houses the Government is not likely to continue for long. It is still worse that such things should happen in the capital city of India where there are so many ambassadors from all over the world. Do we want to show them the spectacle of people occupying what-ever they can? It is all the more regrettable that women and children were used as a shield. It is inhuman. It is like Muslim rulers keeping a herd of cows in the anguard of their armies to make sure that the Hindus would not fight. It is uncivilized, barbaric behavior. It is still more barbaric to put women and children in front to provide against the police making a lathi charge. It is abuse of womanhood. I must humbly ask all the refugees - women and children – not to behave in this way. Let them settle down. If they don’t, then apart from a war between Indian and Pakistan, we may kill ourselves in mutual strife. We may lose Delhi and make ourselves the laughing-stock of the world. If we want to keep India a free country, we must stop the things that are at present going on.

100 Words Essay On The Kashmir Issue In English

The Kashmir Issue is one that is complex. It can be traced back to the time of partition.

With the end of British rule, conflicts emerged between the Hindus and the Muslims, with the latter wanting a separate country of their own.

After the Partition in 1947, Pakistan emerged as a Muslim-dominated country while India emerged as a secular, democratic country. The province of Kashmir, situated at the border of the two countries, got tangled and entrapped between them.

Today, POK, PoK, or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in India remains the portion of Kashmir under the Pakistani administration.

Among Mahatma Gandhi, the other invited guests were The royal kings and princes, Annie Besant. Everyone was in shock at the speech which Gandhi gave that day. Mahatma Gandhi mainly focused on the importance of the Indian language while he was giving the speech.

Mahatma Gandhi was sharply criticizing the overuse of the English language and also demanded self-government or Independent India had jolted the audience for the first time. During this speech, he also showed signs of taking on the leadership of the country’s freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi also made sure to discuss the importance of cleanliness especially in public areas and in trains. He also said that if we as Indians are not able to clean the places where we worship or travel, how can we ever be able to manage the government.

Mahatma Gandhi during his speech also challenged the British government and demanded an Independent India and also made sure to give the British government a message that if India is not given independence then we will forcefully take it by ourselves via the nonviolent way. This was the very first speech that went on and grew into a wildfire culminating in India’s freedom from the British government.

On 11th March 1930, there was a mass gathering of more than ten thousand people and there was an evening prayer held on the Sabarmati sands at Ahmedabad. It was on that evening that Mahatma Gandhi delivered the famous Dandi March speech. The speech which he gave during that evening mainly was a roadmap of the famous civil disobedience movement. He made sure to let the people know that no matter what happens after the march and if he lives or dies, the mode of operation should be nonviolence and peace. Every section of the society was invited to come forward and participate in the civil disobedience movement. The march started with the manufacturing of salt from the seawater along with the followers and also called upon every fellow Indians to defy the taxes which were imposed by the British government. He asked all the Indians to give up foreign clothes and liquor, resist taxes imposed by the government and the British courts and offices. This speech had such an impact that not only did this speech ask every Indian to join the freedom struggle and also challenged colonial rule but also decades later influenced the Civil rights movement in the United States of America. Mahatma Gandhi also requested all the women to participate in the march and said that they should come forward and stand shoulder to shoulder with the men in the struggle. The Dandi March speech is considered to be a very important event as it introduced the term ‘satyagraha’ in every Indian psyche.

The round table conference speech was given by Mahatma Gandhi at the round table conference which was held in London on 30th November 1931. During this conference, the British tried to convince all the Indian leaders to accept the British government and all the rules and laws citing communal disharmony. The bold and courageous Mahatma Gandhi called the British bluff and showed the unity of Indians and the spirit. He said that the people of India are united and there is no disharmony between them due to religion. There were actually no conflicts between the people with different religions but as soon as the Britishers arrived and along with them the policies, there was a division among the people of India.

Mahatma Gandhi was bold enough to demand the British to offer self-government activity to India through his speech.

On the day of the Quit India movement, Mahatma Gandhi gave a speech to the people at the Kranti ground in Bombay. The speech of Mahatma Gandhi included many important points but mostly in his speech he focused on the idea and the importance of non-violence. He said that to get independence everyone should follow a nonviolent approach and the draft resolution of the working committee of the congress is written on the foundation of ahimsa and anyone who does not trust the nonviolence approach to attain independence can separate themselves from the operation.

During this speech, he gave many examples and the situations of the resolutions from history which were fought with the weapons and eventually lost. He said that a person who fights for freedom with only the violent approach will have the blood of his comrades on his hands. He made sure to let the people know that we as Indians are fighting against the non-democratic British rule and its government and not the British people. He said to not hate or have a sour feeling for other English people but to treat everyone with respect. Mahatma Gandhi finally concluded the speech by saying the very famous slogan ‘’Do or die’’. The slogan was a message to every Indian across the country that made sure to say that the fight for the independence of India is the endgame and no one will stop until and unless we get what we want. The Quit India movement speech became an open challenge to the British government from Mahatma Gandhi who was speaking for the millions of Indians across the country to give our country independence.

On the 4th of January 1948, after the evening of the prayer meeting, Mahatma Gandhi had to discuss the tension which arose between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. From the beginning, Mahatma Gandhi did not want any kind of conflicts between India and Pakistan as he was a follower of peace and nonviolence from the beginning. He was a firm believer that anything could be solved by discussing and therefore he wanted that India and Pakistan should initiate a dialogue system to find a solution to the problem. From the beginning, he did not support the idea of partitioning as he believed that if India went through partition there would be conflicts in the future based on religion. He always believed that we Indians are the strongest when we are united together irrespective of whatever religion we belong to. After the partition was done and when the conflict arose between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, Mahatma Gandhi highlighted the importance of the United Nations in initiating a settlement between the two countries.

India had achieved independence but it was achievable through the hard work of many people and it came with a terrible price which the people of India are still paying. Mahatma Gandhi was a firm believer of nonviolence and peace among everyone but when he saw the communal riots happening in front of him, that broke him completely. The one thing which he believed and fought for was peace and a country where everyone is free but he was seeing a sight where people were fighting based on religion, he was devastated by it. Mahatma Gandhi was surrounded by sorrows and he started to fast to spread communal love, harmony, nonviolence, and respect to each other. In this speech, Mahatma Gandhi highlighted the importance of fast as a penalty and he also requested communal harmony between all the communities in India. He was very disappointed by the enmity shown by people belonging to different religions. The speech on the day before his fast was the last recorded speech of Mahatma Gandhi before he was assassinated.

Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir – A spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Indian-administered Kashmir to protest against New Delhi scrapping the region’s special status on this day two years ago.

Businesses in the main city of Srinagar, however, on Thursday said Indian security forces broke the locks of some of their establishments, asking them to remain open in order to “project normalcy” in the restive region, as troops patrolled its streets.

“We were silent and did not tell the police anything. We cannot force the traders to open,” the trade union leader said.

“Today, everyone observed the shutdown, all by themselves. It was not anyone’s call but the police are now forcing them to open and breaking their locks.”

Al Jazeera reached out to a number of traders, who refused to speak due to fear of reprisals.

Sheikh Ashiq, president of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said he also received reports of shops being forcibly opened.

“I believe businesses should be kept out of politics,” he said.

Despite directions by the police, most markets across the Himalayan region remained shut or witnessed little footfall. The effect was also visible on public transport in the region.

Ahead of the anniversary, paramilitary troops with riot gear began manning the main roads around the city, putting up numerous barricades for frisking civilians.

Videos were shared on social media, showing police directing the shopkeepers to open their shops in Srinagar’s commercial hub of Lal Chowk. The locks were cut with blades and rods, the images showed.

‘Day of mourning’

Mehbooba Mufti, the last elected chief minister of the region and head of the regional People’s Democratic Party (PDP), held a protest along with her party members on Thursday.

“August 5 is a black day in the history of Kashmir. Today is a day of mourning for Jammu and Kashmir,” she added, referring to how India describes the region.

Top separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement said the changes made in 2019 were an attempt “to erase its (Kashmir’s) status as a disputed territory”.

Farooq is a member of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), a collective of separatist groups in the region which demands either a merger with Pakistan or an independent state.

speech on kashmir issue in english for students

Both India and Pakistan claim the entire region of Kashmir but rule over parts of it.

Farooq said India’s actions have only complicated the Kashmir dispute further.

“The government continues to assault the people of the state by continuing to incarcerate political prisoners and youth, intimidate people by arrests and bringing in arbitrary and anti-people laws,” his statement said.

Meanwhile, several members of India’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marched with the Indian flag in the southern district of Anantnag to mark the anniversary.

Some BJP workers also hoisted the Indian flag in the districts of Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal. According to the government’s directives, all its departments have been asked to hoist the tricolour on top of government buildings and public institutions.

“The BJP government started oppression, barbarism in 2019. It is unfortunate that the BJP is celebrating while Kashmir is mourning. We will resist this,” a furious Mufti said.

March of solidarity in Pakistan

In neighbouring Pakistan, hundreds of people marched alongside parliamentarians to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir, Pakistani media reported.

Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi marched with other ministers and parliamentarians as participants waved Kashmiri flags.

“We warn to the Hindustan (India), you are playing with fire,” Alvi said to the crowd. “No Pakistani will sit comfortable until Kashmir becomes independent.”

The Indian govt's barbarism in IIOJK is inspired by its RSS Hindutva ideology. Today India is destroying regional stability through its rogue actions & state sponsored terrorism in contravention of all international laws & norms. — Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) August 5, 2021

In a series of tweets, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said the government and people of Pakistan “salute their Kashmiri brothers and sisters for their sacrifices in their determined and legitimate struggle”.

“Today India is destroying regional stability through its rogue actions and state sponsored terrorism in contravention of all international laws and norms,” Khan posted.

In a statement shared with Al Jazeera, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s said the day marks “India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019”.

“[We] honour sacrifices of Kashmiris and salute their indomitable spirit in their just struggle for inalienable right to self-determination,” said the statement.

“Pakistan calls upon the international community to hold India accountable for its crimes,” said the statement.

The Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, a collective of pro-India political parties in the region, said it would keep up its struggle for restoration of partial autonomy.

However, Jitendra Singh, a minister in the BJP-led federal government, said the region was better off “fully integrated” with India, where its special laws had resulted in an “unhealthy divide” with the rest of the nation.

“Today, such distinctions are history,” Singh wrote in the Indian Express newspaper.
