What to know

Critics Consensus

The Family Man 's earnest attempt to remind audiences that it's a wonderful life too often steers into schmaltz, although Nicolas Cage and Téa Leoni's romantic rapport adds a dash of sincere sweetness. Read critic reviews

Critic Reviews for The Family Man

Audience reviews for the family man.

Wall Street investor Jack Campbell gets a glimpse at the life that could have been in the holiday film The Family Man. The cast includes Nicolas Cage, Tea Leoni, and Don Cheadle, who all give great performances and have strong onscreen chemistry. The comedy's lighthearted and good-natured, though some of it's a little obvious. And the writing has some cleverness to it, as it retells a familiar tale in a new and engaging way. Though it may be formulaic, The Family Man is an inspiring Capraesque film that has a bit of magic to it.

movie review of family man

The film is nothing new. This has all been done before. But what makes "THE FAMILY MAN" so enjoyable is the stellar cast. Don Cheadle. Saul Rubinek. Jeremy Piven. Tea Leoni. Josef Sommer. All of them give excellent performances that not only save the movie, but make it interesting to watch. Even compelling. But, even with the efforts of this cast, the inability to give the audience anything new, or fresh, everything just feels so familiar that this film ends up falling a bit on the mediocre side.

Good storyline and a great film with Nicolas Cage making a great 'Family Man' character. A must see!

It shows us that our choices can lead to different directions and that what truly matters is love and family, money isn't everything.
