Child development: course guide for GCSE

child care gcse coursework

'Child development: coursework guide' is the key text for the coursework component of the child development GCSE AQA specification. As an essential guide to coursework, it is also highly relevant to a wide range of other child care and health and social care courses.

This book was written by a leading exam board's chief examiner and principal moderator, and is closely linked to the bestselling 'Child development: a comprehensive guide for GCSE'.

It is the first text ever to be dedicated to the coursework element of child development, and provides essential information on planning and carrying out activities and observations, as well as explaining assessment criteria and coursework outlines. 'Child development: coursework guide' is comprehensive, accessible and fully illustrated throughout - the core text for planning, conducting and writing up coursework projects.

child care gcse coursework

This task booklet is the perfect opportunity for learners to work through and begin research for Task 1 Service Provision, WJEC GCSE.

It will take them through everything they will need to research in relation to their chosen life stage- or it can be used generically for each life stage.

This booklet will allow them to work through the different tasks in the way they would for the coursework. This allows learners to be ready for that assessment time.

Learners are then able to use this booklet as their research during the assessment period. This booklet usually takes from September to December to deliver where the tasks set are for independent learning. However, this is something that can also be set as a homework task on teams where they can individually edit their own document.

This has proven to be a success and a different way of delivering this part of the course. Also, due to Covid-19, this booklet can be used for assessment purposes if learners are not to complete any assessments in 2022.

It provides an opportunity for all learners to gather enough research for the coursework set by the WJEC.

In addition to following all state and federal regulations, Charlie Bear’s Child Care participates in the Idaho Stars Quality Program. Although participation is not required, this is one more way we can go above and beyond for the children that attend our daycare.

Our educational program is based on Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale guidelines. This comprehensive program includes many areas that contribute to positive child development. The curriculum includes opportunities for children to make their own choices among various learning areas in the classroom, as well as daily teacher-planned activities in language, math, science, art, music and fine motor and gross motor areas.

Importance of Family

You are encouraged to be part of your child’s day at Charlie Bear’s Child Care. Daily reports and information are provided, along with a Parent Resource Center with books, videos and community updates. Family events are held throughout the year to develop strong relationships among the staff, families and children.

In compliance with the City of Moscow regulations, the maximum teacher-to-child ratios are as listed:

Children under 2               1:3 Children 2-3                        1:5 Children 3 and older       1:10

We have the opportunity to leverage additional staff during structured learning times so that children receive the attention they need to maximize their learning potential.

Credentials and Education

The teacher in each classroom who plans activities must reflect Idaho’s Early Learning Standards and national standards, have a degree in early childhood education or a related field or have prior experience in early childhood programs. Assistants are also qualified by education or experience to work with young children.

All staff are required to have criminal background checks, child-abuse record clearances and annual health appraisals. Staff members are licensed through the City of Moscow. They are certified in First Aid and CPR, and they receive a minimum of 12 hours in annual service training related to their duties as early childhood educators.
