With little advanced notice, Daniel Caesar releases his sophomore album CASE STUDY 01, boasting features from Pharrell , Brandy and John Mayer . This fresh selection of songs still has that romantic Daniel Caesar sound — especially in the chord progressions in "Open Up" and "Too Deep To Turn Back" — but many of these new tracks offer a switch-up from the dreamy acoustics heard on the artist's previous releases, Freudian and Pilgrim's Paradise.

Caesar enters a realm of a more electric and beat-heavy sound with these new 10 songs. As with most of his discography, the lyrics in the album continue to follow the winding emotional path that Caesar conveys through his music. What separates Ceaser from other artists is his relatable range of emotions paired with tastefully written metaphors and imagery.

"So, what's the price? We're like mosquitoes to light in a sense / I feed off of bioluminescence / Love and intent / So it's a quick fix, what else does life have to give but the pain generating inside our own brains?" Caesar muses on " Too Deep To Turn Back. "

On "Frontal Lobe Muzik" featuring Pharrell, Caesar sings about the loneliness of still being in love with someone and his yearning for feeling something genuine. The lo-fi, mellow groove of the song is sprinkled with synths and galactic sounds that evolve Caesar's sound.

Caesar's effortless falsetto and soulful harmonies have become a signature for the Toronto artist. Still, it's hard to place Caesar in just one genre because he defies the rigid lines and regulations of both soul, acoustic and R&B music. This fusion and alternative sound is what keeps him relevant. The music he creates reaches across genres, inviting listeners to enjoy and engage in his own universe.

After Daniel Caesar released his soul-baring debut album, Freudian, tracing his decision to leave home and the church at 17, he became one of R&B’s most promising poets, able to distill spiritual complexities into deceptively simple love songs. Then, he got lost in his own head. “I got pretty depressed,” he tells Apple Music, citing artistic pressure, social media, and the isolation of fame as factors. “For a while, I didn’t want to leave my house.” The thing that ultimately freed him from his creative rut was finding comfort in his own mortality. “Everything dies, everything changes—I had to embrace that,” he says. “To not be so scared of failure.” CASE STUDY 01, his existential follow-up, is denser, headier, and riskier, confronting ideas like good and evil, life and death, loneliness, and God. “I’m drawn to touchy subjects,” he says. “They’re my favorite.” He found he kept circling back to themes of death and spirituality. “I’d been reading a lot about Judaism and Kabbalah and meditation. And I was raised religious, so it’s like my operating system,” he says. “But I also needed to free myself from that—to live.” Once he’d regained some creative confidence, he drafted a fantasy lineup of artists to work with on the new music—Pharrell, Brandy, John Mayer. “These are my heroes,” he says. “People who I never thought I’d ever collaborate with, until the opportunity came up and it was like, ‘Is this really real?’” Even more surprising, perhaps, was the degree to which the studio sessions felt like true artistic exchanges. “There were obviously things I admired about these artists,” he says, “but I realized there were also things they admired about me.” Pharrell was drawn to Caesar’s palette of influences—a mix of gospel, R&B, rock, and soul—while Caesar hoped he’d absorb some of Pharrell’s signature playfulness. “I take myself very seriously,” he says, “and there’s something so childlike and fun about his music.” Similarly, Mayer, his all-time favorite artist, was interested in seeing how Caesar pieced lyrics together: “He liked what I say and how I say it.” “SUPERPOSITION” perfectly marries their mutual love of romantic, tuneful melodies and densely layered production. “I wanted a song that could’ve fit on [Mayer's 2006 album] Continuum,” Caesar says. “But, you know, right on the edge.”

Background: Diseases and disorders related to mental health are spreading like other chronic diseases all around the world. Considering the role of food in the prevention and treatment of these disorders, including major depression, investigating the relationship between different food patterns and this disorder is of particular importance. The aim of this study was to compare Dutch healthy eating and healthy eating indexes and anthropometry in patients with major depression with healthy individuals.Methods: In this case-control study, the final analysis was performed on 67 men and 111 women with an age range of 20-30 years. Height (cm), weight (kg), food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), physical activity (MET-min/week), demographic and PHQ-9 questionnaires were taken from all participants. In the following, all the food ingredients and their components were extracted and used to calculate HEI-2015 and DHD. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software with independent t-test, logistic regression and chi-square.Results: It was found that people with major depression in this study were mostly women and occupied. The average HEI-2015 in healthy people and those with major depression was 58 and 54.3, respectively. Also, the average DHD in these people was 60.5 and 55, respectively. HEI-2015 and DHD had a significant negative correlation with depression score (r= -0.16, p-value= 0.03) (r= -0.19, p-value= 0.01). Also, in the logistic regression model, before and even after adjusting confounders, HEI-2015 and DHD had a reduced odds ratio in people suffering from major depression. The two groups did not differ significantly in terms of the average factors of height, weight and body mass index (BMI).Conclusion: It seems that HEI2015 and DHD have a significant relationship in reducing major depression. However, due to the small number of studies in this regard, especially in the field of DHD, the need for more studies seems necessary.
