बैलगाड़ी खींचने के लिए भी गायों का उपयोग किया जाता है। वे काफी तेज दौड़ सकते हैं और उनके बाद भारी भार भी खींच सकते हैं। वे बहुत धैर्यवान जानवर हैं और थके होने के बाद भी कड़ी मेहनत करते हैं।

एक गाय ज्यादातर घास पर रहती है। इसे अच्छी तरह से खिलाया जाना है। तभी यह बहुत सारा दूध देती है। हमें गायों के प्रति बहुत दयालु होना चाहिए, क्योंकि वे बहुत उपयोगी हैं, नम्र जानवर हैं और हमें कभी कोई नुकसान नहीं पहुंचाते हैं।

हमें उन्हें कभी भी हरा नहीं करना चाहिए और न ही किसी भी तरह से उन्हें पीड़ा पहुंचानी चाहिए। एक बछड़े को हमेशा अपनी मां के साथ रहने की अनुमति होनी चाहिए। उन्हें अलग नहीं किया जाना चाहिए।

गायों को उनके मांस के लिए भी मार दिया जाता है। उन्हें बहुत अधिक चारा दिया जाता है और जब वे मोटे होते हैं तो उन्हें मार दिया जाता है। भारत में बहुत से लोग मांस खाना पसंद नहीं करते हैं। वे इसे गाय को चोट पहुंचाना पाप मानते हैं।

गोबर को सूखने के बाद ईंधन के रूप में उपयोग किया जाता है। चमड़े का सामान गाय की खाल से बनाया जाता है। इस प्रकार गायें मनुष्य के लिए बहुत उपयोगी साबित हुई हैं।

उन्हें भारत में पवित्र जीव के रूप में सम्मानित किया जाता है और उनकी पूजा भी की जाती है। आइए हम इन कोमल जानवरों के साथ दयालुता से पेश आएं।

खनिज( मिनरल्स)- 0.7 प्रतिशत

गावो विश्वस्य मातर: अर्थात गाय विश्व की माता है, सूर्य, वरुण, वायु आदि देवताओं को यज्ञ होम में दी हुई आहुति से जो खुराक पुष्टि मिलती है, वह गाय के घी से ही मिलती है.

होम में गाय के घी की ही आहुति दी जाती है, जिससे सूर्य की किरने पुष्ट होती है. किरणों के पुष्ट होने से वर्षा होती है और वर्षा से सभी प्रकार के अन्न, पौधे, घास आदि पैदा होते है, जिससे सम्पूर्ण स्थावर- जंगम, चर, अचर प्राणियों का भरण पोषण होता है.

हिन्दुओं के गर्भाधान, जन्म, नामकरण आदि जितने भी संस्कार है, उन सब में गाय के दूध, घी, गोबर आदि की मुख्यता होती है. द्विजातियों को जो यज्ञोपवीत दिया जाता है उसमे गाय का पंचगव्य (दूध, दही, घी, गोबर और गौमूत्र) का सेवन कराया जाता है.

यज्ञोपवीत संस्कार होने पर वे वेद पढ़ने के अधिकारी होते है, जहाँ विवाह संस्कार होता है, वहाँ भी गाय के गोबर का लेप करके शुद्धि करते है. विवाह के समय गोदान का विशिष्ट महत्व है.

पुराने जमाने में वाग्दान (सगाई) के बैल दिया जाता था. जननाशौच और मरणाशौच मिटाने के लिए गाय का गोबर और गोमूत्र ही काम में लिया जाता है, क्योकि गाय के गोबर में लक्ष्मी का गोमूत्र में गंगाजी का निवास है.

जब मनुष्य बीमार हो जाता है, तब उसको गाय का दूध पीने के लिए देते है, क्योकिं गाय का दूध तुरंत बल, शक्ति देता है. अगर बीमार मनुष्य को अन्न भी न पचे तो उसके पास गाय के घी और खाद्य पदार्थों की अग्नि में आहुति देने पर उसके धुंए से उसको खुराक मिलती है. जब मनुष्य मरने लगता है तब उसके मुह में गंगाजल या गाय का दही देते है.

इसका कारण यह है कि कोई मनुष्य यात्रा के लिए रवाना होता है तो उसे गाय का दही देना मांगलिक होता है, जो सदा के लिए यहाँ से रवाना हो रहा है उसको गाय का दही अवश्य देना चाहिए जिससे परलोक में उसका मंगल हो. अंत काल में मनुष्य को जैसे गंगाजल देने का महात्म्य है, वैसा ही महात्म्य गाय का दही देने का है.

वैतरणी से बचने के लिए गोदान किया जाता है. श्राद्ध कर्म में गाय के दूध की खीर बनाई जाती है, क्योकि पवित्र होने से इस खीर से पितरों को अधिक तृप्ति होती है. मनुष्य, देवता पितर आदि सभी को गाय के दूध घी आदि से पुष्टि मिलती है. अतः गाय विश्व की माता है.

गाय के अंगो में सम्पूर्ण देवताओं का निवास बताया जाता है. गाय की छाया भी बड़ी शुभ मानी गई है. यात्रा के समय गाय या सांड दाहिने आ जाए तो शुभ माना जाता है.

और उसके दर्शन से यात्रा सफल हो जाती है.गाय के शरीर का स्पर्श करने वाली हवा भी पवित्र होती है. उसके गोबर गोमूत्र भी पवित्र होते है. जहाँ गाय बैठती है, वहां की भूमि पवित्र होती है, गाय के चरणों की रज (धूल) भी पवित्र होती है.

गाय से अर्थ, काम और मोक्ष इन चारो की सिद्धि होती है. गोपालन से, गाय के दूध, घी, गोबर आदि से धन की वृद्धि होती है. कोई भी धार्मिक कृत्य गाय के बिना नही होता है.

सम्पूर्ण धार्मिक कार्यों में गाय का दूध, दही, घी, गोबर काम में आता है, कामनापूर्ति के लिए किये जाने वाले यज्ञों में भी गाय का घी काम आता है.

बाजीकरण आदि प्रयोगों में गाय के दूध और घी की मुख्यता रहती है. निष्काम भाव से गाय की सेवा करने से मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है. गाय की सेवा करने मात्र से अंतकरण निर्मल होता है. भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने भी नगे पाँव गायो को चराया था. जिससे उनका नाम गोपाल पड़ा.

प्राचीनकाल में ऋषिलोग वन में रहते हुए अपने पास गाये रखा करते थे. गाय के दूध घी का सेवन करने से उनकी बुद्धि बड़ी विलक्षण हुआ करती थी,

जिससे वे बड़े बड़े ग्रंथो की रचना किया करते थे. आज कल तो उन ग्रंथो को तो ठीक ठाक समझने वाले भी कम है. गाय के दूध घी से दीर्घायु होते थे.

गाय के घी का एक नाम आयु भी है. बड़े बड़े राजा लोग उन ऋषियों के पास आते थे और उनकी सलाह से राज्य चलाते थे. गाय इतनी पवित्र है कि देवताओं ने भी अपना निवास स्थान बनाया है. जिसका गोबर और गोमूत्र इतना पवित्र है, फिर वह स्वयं कितनी पवित्र होगी.

एक बार गाय का पूजन करने से सब देवताओं का पूजन हो जाता हैं जिससे सब देवताओं को पुष्टि मिलती है. पुष्ट हुए देवताओं के द्वारा सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि का संचालन, पालन, रक्षण होता है.

गां च स्प्रश्ती यों नित्यं स्नातों भवति नित्यशः अतो मर्त्यः प्रपुष्टस्तु सर्वपापै: प्रमुच्यते गवां रज: खुरोभ्दूत शिरसा यस्तु धारयेत् स च तीर्थजले स्नातः सर्वपापै: प्रमुच्यते

जो मनुष्य प्रतिदिन गौ का स्पर्श करता है, वह प्रतिदिन तीर्थ में स्नान करने का फल प्राप्त करता है. गौ के द्वारा मनुष्य सर्वविध घोर पापों से मुक्त हो जाता है.

जो मनुष्य गौ के खुर से उड़ी धूलि को अपने मस्तक पर धारण करता है, वह समस्त तीर्थों के जल में स्नान करने का फल प्राप्त करता है और समस्त पापों से छुटकारा पा जाता है.

भारतीय गाय की सभी नस्ल की जानकारी और पहचान

अमृतमहल नस्ल की गाय (Amritmahal breed’s cow)- यह नस्ल मैसूर राज्य में पाई जाती है. इस जाति का रंग खाकी तथा मस्तक,गला और थुहा काले रंग का होता है. इस नस्ल के बैल मध्यम कद के और फुर्तीले होते है.
हल्लीकर नस्ल (Fresh breed)- नस्ल के गोधन मैसूर राज्य में पाए जाते है. यह एक स्वतंत्र नस्ल है, इसका ललाट उभरा हुआ और बिच में चीरा हुआ सा होता है. इस नस्ल की गाय अपेक्षाकृत अधिक दूध देती है, इनके सिंग लम्बे और नुकीले तथा कान छोटे होते है.
कंगायम नस्ल (Kangayam breed) – इस नस्ल के गोधन कोयम्बटूर के दक्षिणी एवं दक्षिणी पूर्व के तालुकों में पाए जाते है. इनमे दूध बहुधा कम होता है. कहते है इनके छोटे कान, मस्तक मध्यम, प्रिमानका, गर्दन ओछी तथा पूंछ काफी लम्बी होती है, यह नस्ल सर्वांगी मानी गई है.
खिल्लारी नस्ल (Khillari breed)- इस नस्ल के गोधन का रंग खाकी, सिर बड़ा, सींग लम्बे और पूंछ छोटी होती है, इनका गलकबल काफी बड़ा होता है.
कृष्णातटकी कृष्णावेली गाय की नस्ल (Krishna Valley cattle)- इस जाति की गायें मुंबई के दक्षिणी भाग एवं हैदराबाद राज्य के कृष्णा नदी के तट पर पाई जाती है. इस नस्ल की गाय बहुत अधिक दूध देती है. गाय की यह नस्ल कई जातियों के मिश्रण से बनी है. इनका थुहा काफी बड़ा सिंग और पूंछ छोटे और गलकंबल काफी बड़ा होता है.
बैग्लूर नस्ल (Baglur breed)- इस नस्ल की गाय मद्रास के कोयम्बटूर के बरगूर नामक पहाड़ में बहुतायत मिलती है. सहनशक्ति एवं तेज चाल में कहते है ये अद्वितीय होते है, इन गायों का दूध बहुत कम होता है, इनका सिर लंबा, ललाट कुछ उभरा हुआ और पूंछ छोटी होती है.
आलम बदी नस्ल (Alam Badi Breed)- इस नस्ल को मैसूरी हल्कीकर नस्ल की शाखा मानना चाहिए. इस नस्ल के बैल बड़े परिश्रमी और तेज होते है तथा थोड़ी खुराकापर ही निर्वाह कर सकते है. इन गायों के दूध कम होते है. इनका ललाट उभरा हुआ और लम्बा संकरा होता है, और सींग लम्बे होते है.
गीर नस्ल (geer nasl)- इस नस्ल की भारतीय गाय की पीठ मजबूत, सीधी और समचौरस होती है. कुल्हे की हड्डियाँ प्राय उभरी हुई होती है, पूंछ लम्बी होती है, गीर गाय की नस्ल प्राय एक रंग की नही होती है, वे काफी दूध देती है. इस जाति के बैल मजबूत होते है, यदपि वे मैसूर के बेलों की अपेक्षा कुछ सुस्त और धीमे होते है.
देवनी नस्ल (devanee nasl) – यह नस्ल महाराष्ट्र प्रान्त की डांगी नस्ल से मिलती जुलती है, इसमे गीर नस्ल में काफी समानता है, इस नस्ल की गाय के सिर सींग और गीर नस्ल के एक से होते है, इस नस्ल के बैल खेती में अच्छा काम देते है. तथा गौएँ निजाम राज्य की अन्य नस्लों की तुलना में काफी अच्छा दूध देती है.
डांगी नस्ल (Stew breed) – इस नस्ल की गाय महारास्ट्र प्रान्त के अहमदनगर और नासिक जिलों में बांसदा, धर्मपुर, जौहर, डांग्स क्षेत्रों में पाये जाते है. वे बड़े परिश्रमी होते है और धान के खेतों में लगातार काम करने से इनके स्वास्थ्य कोई अवांछनीय प्रभाव नही पड़ता, इस नस्ल की गाएं दूध कम देती है. इन गौओं का रंग लाल और सफेद अथवा काला और सफेद होता है.
मेवाती नस्ल (Mewati breed)- इस नस्ल के गाये बहुत सीधी होती है बैल भारी हलों और छ्कड़ो में जोते जाते है. गाए काफी दुधारू होती है. इनमे गीर जाति के लक्ष्ण पाए जाते है तथा कुछ बातों में हरियाना नस्ल के गोधन से भी मिलते है. जिससे यह पता चलता है कि यह एक मिश्रित जाति है, इनका रंग सफेद और मस्तक काले रंग का होता है, इनकी टाँगे कुछ ऊँची होती है.
निमाड़ी नस्ल (Nimadi breed)- इस नस्ल के जानवर बहुत फिर्तिले होते है. इनका रंग व मुह की बनावट गीर जाति की सी होती है. इनके कान मध्यम परिणाम के होते है. सामान्य तौर पर इनका रंग लाल होता है, जिस पर जगह जगह सफेद धब्बे होते है. इस जाति की गाये काफी दूध देती है.
कांकरेज नस्ल (Cancroid breed)- इस जाति के गोधन भारतवर्ष में विशेष मूल्यवान समझे जाते है. यह नस्ल काठियावाड़, बडौदा राज्य एवं सूरत तक फैली हुई है. इस नस्ल के गोधन चलने तथा गाड़ी खीचने में बहुत तेज होते है. कांकरेज जाति की गायों की छाती चोडी, शरीर सबल, ललाट चोड़ा और सींग मुड़े हुए होते है. इनके कान लम्बे और झुके हुए होते है, इनकी चमड़ी भारी गलकबल साधारण प्रिमाणिका होता है. पूंछ अपेक्षाकृत छोटी होती है.
मालवी नस्ल (Malviya breed)- इस जाति की गायों की प्राकृतिक गौचर भूमियों में पाला जाता है, सडको पर हल्की गाडियों को खीचने में तथा खेती में इसका विशेष उपयोग होता है, परन्तु बुढ़ापे में इनका रंग बिलकुल सफेद हो जाता है. मालवी नस्ल के दो अवांतर भेद होते है. 1. ग्वालियर जिले के दक्षिण पश्चिम भाग में बड़ी रास के गोधन 2. इस भाग के दक्षिणी पश्चिमी भाग में पाये जाने वाले छोटी रास के गोधन. इस नस्ल की गाय कम दूध देती है.
नागौरी नस्ल (Nagauri breed)- इस नस्ल के गोधन जोधपुर मारवाड़ के उत्तरी पूर्वी भाग में पाये जाते है. इस जाति के बैल आकार में बड़े होते है. और तेज दौड़ने के लिए प्रसिद्ध होते है. इनका मुह अपेक्षाकृत संकरा व लम्बा होता है तथा ललाट चपटा. इनकी चमड़ी पतली,गलकंबल, छोटा और पूंछ छोटी होती है इस नस्ल की गाये कम दूध देती है.
थारपारकर गाय की नस्ल (Breed of tharparkar cow)- कच्छ, जोधपुर, जैसलमेर जिलों में इस जाति की गायें बड़ी संख्या में पाली जाती है. इस भूभाग में बालू के टीले बहुत पाये जाते है और वर्षा कम होती है. इस जाति के बैल बड़े परिश्रमी और खाकी सफेद रंग के होते है. इस नस्ल की गाय भारत में सबसे अधिक दूध देने वाली गाय की नस्लों में से एक है. बैल मध्यम परिणाम के होते है, अतएवं खेती एवं गाडियों में जुतने के काम आते है, इनमे कई गुण ऐसें होते है, जिनके कारण इनकी बहुत कदर की जाती है. गाये अधिक दूध देती है, बैल अधिक मेहनत कर सकते है और खुराक पर निर्वाह कर सकते है. इनका मुह काफी लम्बा, ललाट कुछ उभरा हुआ और थुहा मध्यम परिमाण का होता है.
बचौर नस्ल (bachaur nasl)- इस नस्ल की गाय बिहार राज्य के अंतर्गत सीतामढ़ी जिले के बचौर एवं कोइलपुर परगने में पायी जाती है. इस जाति के बैल काम करने में अच्छे होते है. इनका रंग खाकी, ललाट चौड़ा आँखे बड़ी बड़ी और कान लटकते हुए होते है.
पंवार नस्ल (Pew breed)- यह पीलीभीत जिले के पटनापुर तहसील में और खेरी के उतर पश्चिम भाग में पाई जाती है. शुद्ध पंवार नस्ल के गाय बैल मुह संकरा तथा सींग लबें और सीधे होते है, इनका रंग प्राय काला और सफेद होता है, इनकी पूंछ लम्बी होती है और ये बड़े क्रोधी और फुर्तीले होते है. ये मैदानों में स्वच्छ रूप से चरना पसंद करते है. गौएँ कम दूध देती है.
भगनारी नस्ल (Bhagannari breed)- नारी नदी के तटवर्ती भाग में पाये जाने के कारण गाय की इस नस्ल को भगनारी कहते है. इस नस्ल के गोधन अपना निर्वाह नदी तट पर उगने वाले घास और अनाज की भूसी आदि से करते है, इस नस्ल की गाये अधिक दूध देती है.
दज्जाल नस्ल (dajjaal nasl)- भगनारी नस्ल का ही दूसरा नाम है, इस नस्ल की गाय पंजाब के देरागजी खां जिले में बड़ी संख्या में पाई जाती है. कहते है कि लगभग बहुत वर्ष पूर्व इस जिले में भगनारी नस्ल के बैल बहुत खास नस्ल के लिए भेजे गये थे. यही कारण है कि देरागाजीखां में इस नस्ल के काफी गौधन है. यही से पंजाब के अन्य भागो में भेजे जाते है.
गावलाव नस्ल (gaavalaav nasl)- यह नस्ल मध्यप्रदेश राज्य की सर्वश्रेष्ट गाय की नस्ल है. इस जाति के सर्वोतम गौधन सतपुड़ा की तराई के वर्धा जिले में, संसार तहसील एवं कुराई परगने में और बइहर तहसील के दक्षिणी भाग में तथा नागपुर जिले के कुछ भाग में पाए जाते है. ये प्राय मध्यम कद के होते है, गायों का रंग प्राय निरा सफेद होता है और बैलो का सिर खाकी रंग का होता है, इनका सिर काफी लम्बा एवं संकरा, सींग छोटे और गलकंबल बड़ा होता है, खिल्लारी जाति के बैलों की भाह्ज.
हरियाना नस्ल की गाय (Haryana breed’s cow)- इस नस्ल की गाय बड़ी संख्या में दूध देने के लिए कलकते आदि बड़े नगरो में भेजी जाती है. इस नस्ल के गोधन संयुक्त प्रान्त और राजस्थान के भरतपुर और अलवर जिले में मुख्य रूप से पाई जाती है. हरियाना जाति के बैल सफेद एवं खाकी रंग के होते है. कलकते में बरसात से पूर्व इनका रंग प्राय सफेद हो जाता है. बैलों की गर्दन और थुले काले होते है. गायो और सांडो के सींग छोटे और मोटे होते है. परन्तु बैल के सींग प्राय मुड़े हुए होते है.
हाँसी हिंसार नस्ल (Hansi Hissar breed)- पंजाब के हिंसार जिले में हाँसी नदी के आस-पास यह नस्ल पाई जाती है. इससे इसका नाम हाँसी हिंसार पड़ा. इस नस्ल की गाये हरियाणा नस्ल के जैसी ही होती है, परन्तु उनकी अपेक्षा अधिक परिश्रमी होते है. इनका रंग सफेद और खाकी होता है. इस जाति के बैल परिश्रमी होते है. पर गाय हरियाणा नस्ल की खूबी को नही पा सकी.
अंगोल नस्ल (Angol breed)- मद्रास प्रान्त का अंगोल नाम का इलाका गायों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है. गंतूर जिले के किसान प्राय इन गोधन को पालते है. इस जाति के गोधन प्राय सीधे और बैल मजबूत होते है. परन्तु अधिक भारी होने के कारण वे अधिक चलने में उपयोगी नही होते है. इस जाति के गोधन बहुत बड़ी संख्या में अमेरिकन नस्ल की गाय की नस्ल को सुधारने के लिए अमेरिका भेजे जाते है. ये थोड़ा सा सुखा चारा खाकर निर्वाह कर सकते है. इनके शरीर अपेक्षाकृत लम्बे और गर्दन छोटी होती है. ये अपने डील डोल तथा शरीर की गठन के लिए प्रसिद्ध है.
राठी नस्ल (Rathi breed)- ये बहुत फुर्तीले और मध्यम परिमाण के हल चलाने के लिए एवं सड़क पर चलने के उपयोगी होते है. इनकी गाये भी दुधार होती है. इन तीन गुणों के कारण राठी नस्ल को कामधेनु कहा जाता है. जबकि नागौरी नस्ल की गाय और बैल अमीर लोगों की कामधेनु कहा जाता है.
केनवारिया नस्ल (Canvaria breed)- यह बुंदेलखंड की प्रमुख नस्ल है. और संयुक्त प्रान्त के बांदा जिले के केण नदी के तट पर पाई जाती है. इस जाति की गाय कम दूध देती है. इनका रंग खाकी होता है. इनका मस्तिष्क ओछा किन्तु छोड़ा तथा सींग मजबूत तथा तीखे होते है.
खैरीगढ़ नस्ल (Khairigad breed)- यह नस्ल संयुक्त प्रान्त के खेरीगढ़ क्षेत्र में पाई जाती है. ये गोधन प्राय सफेद रंग के तथा छोटे संकरे मुह् के होते है. वे केनवारिया नस्ल से मिलते जुलते होते है, ये क्रोधी व फुर्तीले होते है तथा मैदानों में स्वछन्द चरने से स्वस्थ व प्रसन्न रहते है. इनकी गाये दूध कम देती है ये तराई प्रदेश में उपयुक्त होते है.
साहिवाल नस्ल (Sahival breed)- ये मुख्यतया दूध देने वाले गोधन होते है. जो प्राचीन काल में पंजाब के मध्य तथा दक्षिणी भागों में बहुत बड़ी संख्या में पाले जाते थे. दुधारू होने के कारण इस जाति की गायें बड़ी संख्या में शहरों में ले जाई जाती है.
लाल रंग की सिंधी नस्ल (Red colored syndi breed)- यह नस्ल मूलतः कराची के आस-पास और उसके पूर्व के प्रान्त में पाई जाती है. ये आकार में छोटी होती है. किन्तु इनमे दूध देने की अधिक क्षमता होती है. ये चाहे जहा पल सकती है. ये लाल रंग की होती है और मुह पर गलकंबल में कुछ सफ़ेद धब्बे बहुधा रहते है. इनके कान मध्यम परिमाण के होते है, इनकी खुराक में कम खर्चा लगता है और थोड़ी खुराक में ही अपना स्वास्थ्य अच्छा रख लेती है.
सीरी नस्ल (Seri breed- इस जाति की गाय दार्जलिंग के पर्वतीय प्रदेश में तथा सिक्किम एवं भूटान में पाई जाती है. इनका मूल स्थान भूटान ही माना जाता है. और इस जाति के सर्वोतम गोधन दार्जलिंग लाए जाते है. ये प्राय काले और सफेद अथवा लाल रंग के होते है. इनके शरीर बारह महीनों घने बालो से ढके रहते है. जो पर्वतीय प्रदेशो में कड़ाके की सर्दी और मुसलाधार वर्षा से रक्षा करते है. सीरी जाति के गोधन देखने में भारी होता है. थुहा काफी आगे निकला हुआ और कान बहुधा छोटे होते है. इस जाति के बेलों की बड़ी कद्र होती है.

गाय के दूध के फायदे

आहार शास्त्रियों ने यह सिद्ध कर दिया है कि मनुष्य केवल गाय के दूध का ही सेवन करता रहे तो शरीर के लिए आवश्यक सभी पोषक तत्व उससे मिल जाते है. गो दुग्ध से शरीर अन्य लोगों की अपेक्षा अधिक अशक्त रोग प्रतिरोधक और क्षमतावान हो जाएगा.

हमारे शास्त्रों में गायों को माता का दर्जा दिया गया है। गायो को पुजनीय माना जाता है। इसालिए तो भारतीय घरों में घर की पहली रोटी गौमाता को अर्पित की जाती है। प्राचीन समय में गांवो में गायों की संख्या से सम्पन्नता का आकलन किया जाता था।

ऐसा कहा जाता है कि गायों की उत्पत्ति समुद्र मंथन के दौरान हुई थी। और स्वर्ग में स्थान मिला था। हमारे पुराणों में भी गायों की महिमा का वर्णन किया गया है। पुराण में उल्लेख है कि माता कामधेनु सागर मंथन से प्रकट हुई थी। कामधेनु को सुरभि की संज्ञा दी गयी। कामधेनु को ब्रह्म देव अपने लोक ले गये थे। और फिर लोक कल्याण के लिए ऋषि-मुनियों को सौंप दिया था।

गाय के प्रकार

गाय भिन्न-भिन्न रंग-रुप और आकार की होती है। इनका कद छोटा भी होता है, तो लम्बा भी। इसकी पीठ चौड़ी होती है। जैसे हमारा देश विविध जलवायु लिए हुए है, उसी प्रकार पशु भी अलग-अलग जगहों पर अलग- अलग किस्म के पाएं जाते हैं। गाय भी इसका अपवाद नहीं है।

यह राजस्थान की जानी-मानी नस्ल है। इसका नाम राठस जनजाति के नाम पर पड़ा है। यह हर दिन 6-8 लीटर दूध देती है। कांकरेज राजस्थान के बाड़मेर, सिरौही और जालौर में अधिक मिलती है। वहीं थारपरकर जोधपुर और जैसलमेर में अधिक दिखती है।

5) दज्जल और धन्नी प्रजाति

यह तीनों प्रजातियां पंजाब में पाई जाती हैं। यह काफी फुर्तीली मानी जाती है। धन्नी प्रजाति ज्यादा दूध नहीं देती। किन्तु दज्जल देती हैं।

6) मेवाती, हासी-हिसार

यह हरियाणा की प्रमुख नस्लें हैं। मेवाती का उपयोग कृषि कार्य में ज्यादा किया जाता है। जबकि हासी-हिसार हरियाणा के हिसार क्षेत्र में मिलती हैं।
