You may have also seen our IELTS Made Easy: Task 2 eBook .

If you are thinking of purchasing only one of these or perhaps wondering whether you want both, you will likely want to know the key differences .

The Model Essays eBook  is as it says - it is full of model essays and each one has some general tips and comments  (see the  sample pages  below). There aren't activities or tasks included in the book.

Task 2 eBook

However, the  Task 2 eBook  is a structured course that builds up your IELTS essay writing skills step-by-step.

Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of essay writing, such as how to analyse the question and brainstorm, how to organise your answer, and how to quickly write an essay that is well-organised with the right grammar.

The Task 2 eBook also has a lot of practice activities and exercises for you to hone your writing skills. There are model essays included in the Task 2 eBook as well, but it's not the main focus.

Making your choice

So they can both complement each other and buying both will certainly help with your essay writing.

But if you wish to purchase one, then think about whether you want to have a bank of examples of model essays with tips or structured essay writing lessons with activities.

The Effects of Dropping Out of High School

(1) Every year thousands of teenagers drop out of high school. Some of these teenagers are wage earners who need to contribute to the family income. For them, the immediate need of helping out financially overrides their need for a diploma. Some teenagers did not get a strong academic foundation in elementary and middle school, so the high school curriculum proves to be too challenging, which leads to frustration. They find it easier to leave school and start life as working adults. Still others become involved in illegal activities, which often includes drug use. Such a lifestyle is not compatible with regular attendance and study necessary for high school success. In spite of the efforts of parents, teachers, and counselors, these teens end up leaving school to face whatever “real life” brings them. In their situations, it is difficult for them to see that leaving school will have profound effects on their finances, their ability to function in society, and even their sense of self-worth.

(2) Clearly, leaving high school without a diploma will have a negative (a) ____________on a person’s finances. Though there are jobs that do not require a high school diploma, these are often not suitable for the long term. Most of these are minimum-wage paying jobs, paying hourly wages that barely cover basic living expenses. Such jobs are usually in the service industry and are often physically demanding. They typically do not offer a lot of job satisfaction. Though there are some better-paying jobs that do not require a high school diploma such as utility line installers, heavy equipment operators, and communications installers, these jobs rarely (b)______________ higher-level managerial positions without a high school diploma. (c) _____________, for the rest of his life, the high school dropout is locked in a job with little hope of significant pay increases to keep up with the cost of living or to provide for a family beyond life’s basics.

(3) Dropping out of high school can also negatively (d) ______________a person’s ability to function as a fully participating member of society. High school math skills, which go beyond the basics, are necessary to function as an informed consumer. These skills affect good decision making about everything from home mortgages to retirement plans. The advanced reading and critical thinking skills that are part of the high school curriculum are also necessary to make good choices, whether choosing a cell phone plan or voting in local and national elections. The ability to be a fully participating member of society is severely hindered if a person lacks the skills learned in high school.

(4) Finally, a less obvious (e) ________________ of dropping out of high school concerns the person’s sense of self-worth. A high school diploma is considered a measure of a basic level of learning for citizens in modern societies. The vast majority of people complete this educational milestone. A person who drops out, however, cannot claim this accomplishment. (f) _________________, he may feel that he is not as valuable to society as others or that other people are somehow better than he is. Though this is not necessarily always the case, the lack of a diploma can lead to a lack of confidence. This could affect his interaction with other people, whether during a casual conversation when meeting new people at a party or during a high stakes job interview. A person may even feel he does not belong to a group of people with more education than he has.

(5) In short, the knowledge and skills learned in high school form a foundation for full participation in our society. Without a diploma, a teen has limited opportunities financially and socially. For those who choose not to complete this degree, life will provide a series of unique challenges, so it is important that anyone thinking of dropping out really understands the consequences.

In the book, you’ll learn how to self-study writing at home, common writing mistakes, good  vocabulary , collocations, tips, and resources plus some sample writing.

Model Essays For IELTS Writing   Study Guide

To get a good writing score, you need good preparation and practice. These tips may be right for one person but not for another. If you find it useful, apply it for yourself!

Preparation is a rather lengthy and frustrating process, often lasting more than a month. However, writing the article later will be challenging if you do not prepare well. First, you need to thoroughly review the  Grammar  section and increase your vocabulary before entering the battle round.

Types of dills

In  IELTS , present simple, present continuous, future simple, and present perfect are used most. The types are different, but I think you don’t need to care.

Conditional sentences

This is the kind of sentence where you will score grammar points so try to use it. Only conditional sentences type 3 (not really in the past) are rarely used, the rest should be carefully reviewed in the article.

Comparison sentence

In fact, more than 50% of essays have comparative sentences, more or less. Usually, you are wrong in this type of sentence because the use of the structure is not parallel to each other.

Using the wrong article is a prevalent mistake, not only for Vietnamese students but also for other IELTS test takers worldwide. I also get this error often during writing practice, so I have little experience. Please remember:

model-essays-for-ielts-writing.1

  • For singular nouns, using the article “a/an” or “the” is mandatory. We only use “the” if the noun has something to help the reader understand what we are referring to.
  • Some cases do not comply with this rule.
  • For uncountable nouns, there is no article in front. Only use THE if there is an “of” which means “of”. It would help if you did the article exercises in grammar books or have someone well-qualified to check your writing.

Learning the IELTS writing format and marking criteria does not take too much time. Task 1, which accounts for 33% of your final score, is usually a graph, process, or map description. You just need to learn some comparative structures, a few words that show an increase and decrease, and groups of words that show displacement to be able to write. There are also some such vocabulary and structures in this book, which you can learn from.

Some notes   for Model Essays For IELTS Writing

  • A brief introduction, usually 1 sentence. Only in some cases (such as having two charts mixed together) would two sentences be used.
  • Overall, the main feature is also usually 1 to 2 sentences. This part can be left right after the introduction or at the end of the article, but it must be there.
  • Details should be arranged into 2-3 paragraphs depending on the article. Each passage plays a different role than the others. For example, paragraph 1 is about the increasing group, paragraph 2 is about the decreasing group. Or paragraph 1 about the change of the northern area of the map, paragraph 2 about the change of the southern area, for example.
  • Task 1 does not need a conclusion. You can write in it, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t.
  • For line graph: Start point and end point. In the middle, describe the highlights.
  • For bar chart: Events with the same trend are grouped. Do not separate each event.
  • For tables: Multiple columns are divided by columns, and many rows are divided by rows.
  • For process, diagram: Specify how many processes start and end with what process.
  • For Maps: if it’s a map that compares changes, how does the function change? Divide into regions and compare the difference in each area.
  • For mixed format: Each paragraph describes a chart, do not compare charts with each other.
  • The exam marking criteria are Task response (directly answering the question and your level of support argument).
  • Coherence (coherence, easy to understand), Vocabulary (vocabulary) and Grammar (grammar).
  • You should focus on handling the Task response carefully and limit mistakes when writing articles. You should read this ebook carefully for common mistakes, good vocabulary, good ideas and sample lessons for reference.

Vocabulary in IELTS can be learned in the following books:

  • English Vocabulary in Use PDF: This is a huge vocabulary book. Reading IELTS 9.0 masters often recommend studying in this book.
  • Latest Cambridge Vocabulary for IELTS [pdf + audio]: This book is an academic vocabulary for Writing. Accompanying the vocabulary are collocations and audio to help you learn how to listen. Nice copy.
  • Book Check your vocabulary for the IELTS examination: I must say that I enjoyed this book. Part of the reason is that the vocabulary is divided into specific topics, convenient to look up. The vocabulary in this book is very good, not only for IELTS but also for your future purposes. The advice is to print this file and then study it daily for 5-10 new words.

model-essays-for-ielts-writing.2

In the first few weeks, don’t expect too much. At the fastest, you can only review basic grammar and learn some new vocabulary. The vocabulary part, you can study strictly during the exam preparation process later, not necessarily learning too many words in a short time.

Methods of learning vocabulary also have many. One of the easiest ways is to make flashcards and take it with you when you go to school. Take advantage of the free time of the day and learn vocabulary. Another way to learn vocabulary is to make sentences with that word. Look up the dictionary to understand the meaning of words and try to write sentences with similar contexts. You are learning while practising will help you remember vocabulary much faster.

A multiliteracies pedagogy has renewed our interest in materiality, or how the physical text interacts with the author’s choices and the context to contribute to the message, yet little attention has been paid to materiality in analog texts, such as the scrapbook, even though this medium contains affordances (capabilities and limitations) that encourage active engagement with the materiality of composition. This essay demonstrates the pedagogical value of the scrapbook for how it encourages student composers to select, appropriate, and redesign external cover materials to communicate the message inside the book and how it emphasizes the haptic sense (touch). In short, the scrapbook assignment is pedagogically important because it teaches students the concept of affordances and demonstrates to them how materiality impacts design, composition, and rhetorical choices; it also provides a low-tech, low-stakes entry into multimodal composing and reflexivity on the rhetorical decision-making process.

The term "memory-craft" refers to arts and crafts media where personal memorabilia and journaling are combined and assembled into book form. Examples of memorycrafts include scrapbooks, art journals, and altered books. Traditionally, women have been the primary assemblers of memory-crafts, using this form as a method of autobiography and genealogical archiving. Memory-crafting is often associated with the amateur home-crafter, and while historians have long understood its cultural significance, academia has not properly considered memory-craft as a type of alternative discourse. The purpose of this study is to examine the use of memorycrafting as a non-traditional method of writing, especially among women who use it to record personal and familial narratives. Just as women are usually the primary caretakers of the family, through memory-craft they also become responsible for collecting and preserving memories, which would otherwise become lost. These memories of the everyd...
