Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Squared Love Everlasting’ on Netflix, The Third Film In A Sweet But Average Rom-Com Series

Netflix Basic

Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Blind Date Book Club’ on Hallmark Channel, Where A Bookstore Owner And A Famous Author Fall In Love

Stream it or skip it: ‘how to date billy walsh’ on prime video, a teen rom-com that’s trying to do too much, ‘10 things i hate about you’ turns 25: writers karen mccullah and kirsten smith are here for ‘anyone but you’ reviving the modern shakespeare rom-com, netflix teases latest rom-com ‘mother of the bride,’ featuring brooke shields, chad michael murray and miranda cosgrove.

When the first movie in the Squared Love movie premiered on Netflix in 2021, the premise of the Polish rom-com was that the main character Monika, a school teacher, secretly worked as a model named Klaudia, and unknowingly, a fellow model named Enzo falls for both Monika and her model alter ego, thinking they’re two different women. In the third film of the series, Squared Love Everlasting , the mistaken identities are gone, but the romantic conflict is still there: newly engaged, the couple discover that Enzo has fathered a child with another woman who threatens to come between their perfect romance.

SQUARED LOVE EVERLASTING : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: “Love often takes us by surprise. It comes out of the blue and turns your life into a movie filled with romantic scenes,” a man’s voiceover says as we watch a happy young couple kiss. Thus begins our movie filled with romantic scenes…

The Gist: Stefan (Mateusz Banasiuk), who also goes by Enzo professionally as a model and online personality, and school teacher Monika (Adrianna Chlebicka) are the couple at the center of the Squared Love movie trilogy, and after several “will they or won’t they” storylines in the first two films, they’re now happily living together in this third film. Stefan plans to propose to Monika, but every grand attempt he makes is thwarted somehow, so he hasn’t yet.

When Monika finds out she’s pregnant, so he fast-tracks his proposal and starts wedding planning (but it turns out, she’s not actually pregnant, she just had a hormone imbalance). Stefan goes to the local church he was raised in to ask the priest, Father Wiktor, to marry him, and that’s when the real hiccup hits: Father Wiktor tells Stefan that there’s a young woman named Ewa from Stefan’s past who he hurt. In order to perform the wedding, Father Wiktor tells Stefan he needs to make things right with Ewa first. So Stefan sets off on a road trip with his niece Ania (Helena Mazur) to find Ewa, and when he does, he learns he has a son with her, a boy named Antek.

Stefan brings Ewa and Antek back home to Monika who is understanding when she learns Antek is Stefan’s son, but less understanding when Ewa takes an offer to crash for a couple weeks and turns it into an extended stay. Eventually Monika learns that Ewa is kind of a deadbeat, she has no money and no home and has been mooching off them with the hopes that she would win Stefan back and basically push Monika out of the picture.

With this new woman in the picture, Stefan and Monika’s ideal relationship that was finally starting to seem perfect unravels once more, and they plan to call their wedding off. Will these two ever find their happy ever after?

What Movies Will It Remind You Of? Squared Love Everlasting is a classic rom-com mixed with elements of a farce, not unlike (the underrated, IMO) Definitely Maybe and the classic My Best Friend’s Wedding . It’s not quite on the same level as those films, but it has the same predictably charming elements that make them work.

Our Take: Squared Love Everlasting is predictable in every way, but that’s not to say it’s a bad thing. The formula for most great rom-coms involves some kind of obstacle that prevents our couple from being together (our obstacle in this case is Ewa), a well-rounded, usually funny cast of supporting characters (this film has them lurking everywhere), and a B-story of some kind that acts as a buffer to flesh out the universe of our characters (in this case, it’s an equally complicated romance between Monika’s widower father and his wealthy new girlfriend). And of course you can’t overlook the fact that even though the couple seems broken up until the last five minutes of the film, they end up walking down the aisle after all, once they realized they’re destined to be together.

The memorable performance from Ina Sobala as the ethereal, unfiltered, unpredictable Ewa, ( 30 Rock would refer to her as “ crazy putty “) is exaggerated but necessary to create friction in the relationship, but the ultimately what ties the story together is the way Father Wiktor orchestrates the biggest challenge for the couple – the introduction of Ewa – but also refuses to let the couple use her as an excuse to break up. Because you can’t force a good rom-com couple into love each other, they have to find out their feelings for themselves, and they certainly do here (and in the previous two films as well).

Sex and Skin: Some kissing but nothing hot and heavy.

Parting Shot: “We really did do a good job,” Father Wiktor’s assistant tells the priest as they look at the newly-married couple. “I mean, you did a good job, Father. But I did help out, you have to give me that.”

Most Pilot-y Line: “Let your uncle ruin his life in peace,” Stefan’s brother Andrzej tells his daughter Ania as she tries to offer her uncle life advice.

Our Call: Is it hokey and predictable? Yes. Is it still charming and filled with good-looking people and gorgeously scenic backdrops for a wedding? Also yes. There’s nothing ground-breaking about Squared Love Everlasting , but it’s a satisfying rom-com all the same. STREAM IT!

Love Everlasting Ending Explained: A Closer Look at an Underrated Gem

Aaheli Pradhan

Love Everlasting is a wonderful medley of romance, trauma, and tragedy. Its ending reminds us how ‘happily ever after’ is rarely the reality. It doesn’t have a very popular ending but is open to originality.

Featuring Lucky Blue Smith, Love Everlasting was the acting debut of the famous model. It was even shot in Utah, which is Lucky’s hometown. The local scenic beauty makes the film stand out from others of its genre.

The 1 hour 33 minutes long movie puts worth its best leg forward but is an underrated gem since it came out at the same time as Fifty Shades Darker. Obviously, the film got overshadowed, and very few discovered its brilliance. Love Everlasting is unrated, but the director predicts it would have received a PG or PG 13 rating.

So what makes Love Everlasting so different? Is it the wonderful acting?

The beautiful shots or the heart-rending conclusion to a bitter-sweet tale? Let’s find out more about Love Everlasting as I take you through the movie.

What Happens in the Movie Love Everlasting?

What Happens in the Movie Love Everlasting

Love Everlasting (2016) introduces Bridger Jenkins, a high schooler, and his mother, Helen. They both run away from Bridger’s abusive father and end up in a small Utah town with much less money. Their aim was to reach the ocean.

Will Simms, a local mechanic, shelters them. Eventually, Bridger starts connecting with Clover, Will’s daughter. Bridger has a scar on his chest due to a heart transplant, and he connects with her because of a scar she has too. They grow closer to each other, and the audience sees hope for the couple.

Their peace is ruined by Bo, Bridger’s high school bully. Bridger is haunted by his own past and struggles with alcoholism. Even Clover has never recovered from her own trauma. The duo barely connects when Bo beats Bridger until he is heavily injured.

Bridger goes into a coma as his body starts rejecting his heart. After he does wake up, he proposes to Clover, and they get married. They decide to watch the ocean together to grant Bridger’s final wish.

The following day, Bridger can no longer be found, and Clover searches for him. It turns out that he had passed away. Clover ends up having a daughter and lives with Will and Helen.

Love Everlasting Ending Explained

Love Everlasting Ending Explained

The ending of Love Everlasting has the power to leave anyone depressed. After a passionate wedding night, Bridger sees the ocean, leaving Clover in the van. He digs his feet deep into the beach and watches as the sand slips through his hands.

Maybe he could feel his life slip away just like the sand did. The movie’s ending connects to the beginning when Bridger and his mother had left to visit the ocean as an excuse to run away.

When Clover wakes up and finds Bridger, he does not respond and looks lifeless. Will tries to save him, but it doesn’t look like it works. The shot then pans off to show the ocean, as if Bridger is now in a faraway place.

It is confirmed that Bridger didn’t survive when the next scene shows Clover and her daughter, but not him. It seems to be Bridger’s daughter, and they live with Will and Helen. It looks like a new generation was born into a family with trauma that ran deep in their veins. A happy kid who will break the chain of tragedy.

Is Lover Everlasting Based on a True Story?

Rob Diamond, the writer, and director of Love Everlasting, explained that two separate real-life stories inspire the movie. The first story was about one of his former students who received a heart transplant at a young age. The second person was a woman in his church who had received a shotgun wound, resulting in a scar.

Diamond wanted to marry the two stories together and give them an inspirational conclusion. While Diamond was working on his story of Everlasting Love, he encountered Lucky Blue Smith and knew right away that he was made for the role.

Did Love Everlasting Have a Happy Ending? Did Someone Die?

Did Love Everlasting Have a Happy Ending Did Someone Die

The answer can be both yes and no, but judging from the protagonist’s death, most viewers are bound to find it a tragedy. However, the last scene shows Bridger’s daughter, who is going through her teen years with a happy family.

It can be interpreted as breaking away from generational trauma. Yet, Bridger’s death gives the film a somber tone.

Love Everlasting offers a refreshing look at the sad reality of life. People rarely get what they want and almost never end up happy.

I believe Bridger was able to find peace at the beach before he passed away. Otherwise, it would be too cruel of an ending for the screaming little boy in him.

Love Everlasting is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Love Everlasting #1

Comic Books

‘love everlasting’ #1 is flawless.

Love Everlasting benefits from strong writing, impeccable art, and a style of storytelling that is wholly original.

love everlasting movie review

Love Everlasting could not be told as a novel, nor a short story. It could not be told over the length of a film. The story by Tom King and Elsa Charretier is told the only way this story can: as a comic book. And in a world of adaptations and comics being used merely as fodder for IP content farms, Love Everlasting is a work of comic book art.

Within its classic-style structure, Love Everlasting is daringly modern. Charretier’s more traditional cartoon style blends in with King’s script like a glove, when on the surface it has no right. But King’s story is more than meets the eye, and when we dig under the surface we see a story boiling with noir. Charretier delivers King’s surrealistic and twisted love story from hell with a nostalgic flavor, allowing Matt Hollingsworth’s colors to produce an immersive atmosphere, nailing the mood of the noir tale.

Clayton Cowles’ contributions can’t be overlooked, either, as his lettering gave the story weight and a consistent tone. He certainly had his work cut out for him, as King’s story serves up plenty of dialogue, as well the narration.

As for Tom King, whether you love him or hate him, you know it’s a Tom King production every time you finish one of his comics. This is no different, as King has paced and structured the story in free-flowing manner, with a rising tension bubbling underneath.

But it’s the format itself that takes center stage. This debut issue runs 24 pages, but is told in four mini-stories, with the fourth being a one-page story. Each story differs but has one common beat that threads them all together: Joan Peterson finding herself in alternating presents, with memories of past loves and histories that may or may not be real, but with the threat of vanquishing her future of a new love and a happy marriage.

With each new story, Peterson remembers her memories earlier and quicker, leaving her and the reader questioning whether what happens next is real or not. But as each new story compounds upon the next, Peterson’s experiences feel both grounded as a memory but surreal in the events unfolding before her. King’s bold writing does a great job of weaving in and out of these complex concepts and is conveyed in smooth fashion.

So, when it comes to defining the merits of art and cataloguing it for our cultural zeitgeist, what are the rules? How do you contextualize the subjectivity of a comic in a way that is well thought out, balanced, and honest? First, you have to take a step back.

I’ve sat with this comic for a few days. I first wrote my review, a much quicker one, but throughout the editing process I’ve had to go back and revisit and revise. And in doing so, I’ve been given the freedom, space, and time to think about this comic and write about it in a more profound and meaningful way than to just regurgitate a review a hundred other websites may or may not beat me to publishing.

I thought about it today, earlier, before I had the opportunity to edit. I thought about the art, the way it got under my skin, the way Charretier’s style surprised me by giving me something I didn’t expect at first. I thought about how well she blends her artistic talent with Tom King’s story, and how intrigued I am by the end of the last page.

I thought about Tom King, and how in the hell he does it. I wondered, as I sat with the story today, how the two were able to tell a story with so many unexpected beats and offer a comic book that hits on all cylinders, even ones I didn’t know I needed to look for.

I thought about the second issue, and what was to come. In the world of content gluttony, Love Everlasting held my attention and wouldn’t let go. It’s the most creative debut issue of a comic book I’ve ever read. Love, it is said within the final pages of issue #1, is everlasting. This series will be, too.

What's the Story?

Is it any good.

Squared Love Everlasting is about as unnecessary a movie as was ever made. Every single minute of it feels false. Dumb premises are stacked on impossible premises and those sit on never-could-happen-in-a-million-years premises. Enzo's told an obviously treacherous woman that she can't drive his car and then he leaves the keys in the car for her to, you guessed it, drive off in his car. The common comic trope in which lead characters allow other characters to move into their homes, take over their lives, "borrow" their money, and otherwise impose themselves unrealistically takes up most of this hard-to-watch, annoying display of good-looking actors flailing their way through dreadful material.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

If you have watched the previous two movies, how does this one compare? Do you think the story warrants another sequel? Why or why not?

Squared Love Everlasting Reviews

love everlasting movie review

Every single minute of it feels false. Dumb premises are stacked on impossible premises and those sit on never-could-happen-in-a-million-years premises.

It lacked depth, was hokey, forgettable and lackluster.

love everlasting movie review

A tad exhausted and a bit of “deja vu all over again,” but at least the “obstacles” to true love are more interesting this time out.

Full Review | Original Score: 1.5/4 | Aug 30, 2023

Is it hokey and predictable? Yes. Is it still charming and filled with good-looking people and gorgeously scenic backdrops for a wedding? Also yes.

Full Review | Aug 25, 2023

Squared Love Everlasting does serve as a fair reminder that a romance movie doesn’t have to be groundbreaking to be entertaining.

Top 10 Teen Romance Movies to Watch If You Loved ‘The Tearsmith’

10 Movies Like The Tearsmith You Must Watch

The Tearsmith is available to watch on Netflix and is a gothic, sometimes steamy love story. If you enjoyed the film and are looking for something else along those lines, you could do worse than check out our recommendations for teen romance movies like  The Tearsmith , some with a darker edge.

10 Movies Like The Tearsmith

Tuck everlasting (2002), the inbetween (2022), the map of tiny perfect things (2021), elle enchanted (2004), 10 things i hate about you (1999).

  • She's All That (1999)

The Way He Looks (2014)

Issy and ossie (2020), do revenge (2022), true romance (1993).

With the usual themes of forbidden love, this 2002 movie follows young Winnie, played by Alexis Bledel, who chances upon a handsome boy named Jesse Tuck in the woods. That’s never a good start, but things escalate when she learns a game-changing secret about him and his family. Winnie finds herself in a dilemma over whether to stay with her true love and his family or return to her own life.

Here’s another tale that finds itself drifting into the darkness, as we follow the relationship of Tessa and Skylar, who bump into each other at the movies and hit it off right away. However, when Skylar meets his untimely end in a car accident, Tessa starts to think that he is still trying to connect with her from beyond the grave.

Here is a timey-wimey teen romance that borrows from Groundhog Day as we encounter two teens, stuck in a loop and replaying the same day over and over again. It’s been done before and it will be done again, ironically, and follows a couple trying to break the loop as they spend the days looking for perfect moments.

Here’s a classic romantic fantasy movie that stars current indie darling Anne Hathaway as Elle, meeting Prince Charmont, falling in love, and striving to break the incredibly awkward curse that makes Elle do anything she is told. Cheesy and a bit cringe, but sometimes you might just be in the mood for this kind of thing, so enjoy.

Here’s a well-remembered teen romance that could be arguably listed as one of the most influential productions in the genre. The screenplay is inspired by Shakespeare’s Taming Of The Shrew  and follows charismatic bad apple Patrick Verona trying to win a bet by convincing aloof Kat Stratford to give things a go. Plenty of fun set pieces and some nice performances elevate this above many others.

She’s All That (1999)

Here’s another film with a date bet premise that will of course remind you of our previous entry. This time he’s the popular guy and she’s the awkward girl, and this is a fun and competent entry that features a cameo from our favorite vampire slayer of all time, Sarah Michelle Geller. The film would get a switcheroo remake by Netflix called He’s All That.

Here’s an entry that may have flown under your radar, but you might want to give it a go. Touching and funny, we follow Leo, who is blind and fed up with his life situation, meeting Gabrielle and falling in love. However, tensions mount as Leo’s friend Giovana starts to feel jealous of the couple. This is a sweet underrated gem and if you are reading this list you should probably watch it.

Here’s a German-produced teen rom-com that has another tried and tested formula. The privileged Isi comes from a wealthy home and family, and in a moment of rebellion, decides to annoy everyone by dating a boxer from the wrong side of the tracks. Of course, the more time they spend together, the more a real bond starts to grow, but you knew that would happen anyway.

Here’s a teen drama that veers into darker territories as we meet the formidable Drea and her new bestie, the malleable Eleanor, who form an uneasy alliance and decide to take revenge on each other’s most hated peers. It almost strays into Hitchcockian territory, and revels in its own dread.

Thought we would throw this one at you, although it does kind of deviate from the theme of this list, but it features an unlikely romance. From the mind of Quentin Tarantino, this dark tale sees a geeky Elvis Presley fan who meets a call girl and falls in love with her. The story sees them setting out to California, trying to sell a job lot of cocaine they have stolen from the mob. Ah, young love.

Rodney o talks clearing sample for “like that” and kendrick lamar’s game-shifting verse.

As “Like That” enters its second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart , (and No. 2 on the Global 200), Future , Metro Boomin ’, and Kendrick Lamar are not the only artists celebrating. For rapper and producer Rodney O , the top position is a long time coming.

The track samples his and Joe Cooley’s 1988 record “Everlasting Bass” which never reached the Billboard charts. However, Hip-Hop fans regard the record as a certified classic.

Future And Metro Boomin’s ‘WE DON’T TRUST YOU’ Debuts At No. 1

“It is crazy because the song was big when it came out and for it to be even bigger now all these years later, it’s crazy. I heard the song, I knew it was good, but when it comes out and the world hears it how you hear it and react to it the way you reacted to it, that’s confirmation,” shared the Hip-Hop veteran with VIBE. “Every song that I’ve cleared, they’ve sent it to me prior and I’ve been able to check it out. A lot of people have used the same sample in the past, but when I heard [“Like That”], I was like ‘they totally demolished it.’”

Released last month, the collaboration instantly went viral. The song anchored itself at the center of the Hip-Hop universe with a diss aimed at Drake and J. Cole from the featured Compton representative. By declaring “Motherf**k the big three ni**a it’s just big me, ni**a bum,” Kendrick Lamar sparked an inevitable clash of the titans.

While the “Dreamville head honcho” responded on “7 Minute Drill”  from his surprise album, Might Delete Later, issued last week, he has since retracted his rhymes. Thus far, Drake has yet to officially respond to the blatant call-out, which was mostly directed toward him.

“It’s funny. Somebody called me the day before it came out and said, ‘Hey man, I got some news for you…I actually heard Kendrick is on that record.’” And I was like, “No, Kendrick ain’t on that record because I have it. Songs now they’ll be two minutes and 30 seconds, so when I heard it, I’m like, ‘That’s the whole song.’ So I said, ‘He might be on a remix or something like that,’  that’s what I’m thinking. I heard it in a restaurant just on my phone. So I really didn’t get to hear what he was saying and all that. Then my phone just started going nuts that night,” remembered the veteran rapper.

When “Everlasting Bass” was created in the 1980s, Rodney O was still in his teens, and used a lot of 808 Bass, a popular sound in modern Hip-Hop.

“I made that record [“Everlasting Bass”] when I was 16 [or] 17 years old. You’re talking about a kid making a record. I think it still resonates with the younger audience because I was a kid when I made it,” he reflected.

“We did a show, it was UTFO, Joeski Love, L.A. Dream Team, [and] Egyptian Lover. I seen how the crowd reacted [to them], so we all came back to the hotel and I was like, ‘I have to make a hit record. I have to have some of this.’  So I went up to my room from the lobby from seeing everybody signing autographs, and I came up with that song that night and we recorded it within a week.”

This isn’t the first time the Grammy-nominated producer dug into Rodney O’s archives.  In 2020, the St. Louis native sampled Rodney O and Joe Cooley’s “Nobody Disses Me” on his collaborative album, Savage Mode II, with 21 Savage on the track “Steppin’ On Ni**as.”

“That’s the essence of it,” shares Rodney O, discussing sampling in Hip-Hop.

For Metro and Future, the collaboration is the highest charting song from their collaborative WE DON’T TRUST YOU album, which also reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart.  Their second promised album, WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU, is due on Friday (April 12).

Love Everlasting benefits from strong writing, impeccable art, and a style of storytelling that is wholly original. Love Everlasting could not be told as a novel, nor a short story.
