HIT: The 2nd Case Reviews
HIT 2 is quick, engaging, and a well-directed thriller. It works as a standalone film, and Sailesh Kolanu did a fabulous job creating excitement for the next part and building up the overall universe.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jul 31, 2023
It's a winning example of a sequel that's better than the original movie. The story's mystery is wider in scope and told in a more compelling way than in HIT: The First Case. It's a great idea to make each HIT movie with a different detective protagonist.

It just doesn’t seem to do anything to take you by surprise. What it does do however is make you want to watch the next installment. And maybe, that’s a win.

HIT 2 review: Adivi Sesh’s hunt for a serial killer has both shortcomings and impressive moments
Thanks to the seasoned actors, Sailesh Kolanu’s directorial engages the audience despite the cliched murder-mystery pattern and scenes.

Hit: The Second Case , aka HIT 2 — starring Adivi Sesh — released in theatres this Friday, 2 December. It is a sequel to Hit: The First Case (2020), which was a critically acclaimed hit.
With Adivi Sesh becoming more of a household name after his pan-Indian hit Major , HIT 2 attracted quite a lot of attention from movie lovers.
Let’s check if the suspense thriller lives up to the expectations.
Krishna Dev aka KD (Adivi Sesh) is posted as the in-charge of the Homicide Intervention Team in Visakhapatnam.
Soon after taking charge, he is given a high-profile murder case which becomes a sensation across the Telugu states.
Sanjana, a bar manager, is brutally murdered and her body is chopped into pieces.
KD’s investigation reveals that the body parts found at Sanjana’s murder location include those of two other women, making it clear that it is not one murder but three.
The hurdles the team faces while solving the mystery and the motive behind the serial killings form the rest of the story.
What works and what doesn’t
Sailesh Kolanu, who directed Hit: The First Case , is also the director for Hit: The Second Case .
Movies about psycho serial killers are not new to Telugu film lovers. Also, most of the flicks in this genre follow a set pattern, where cops are on the lookout for a criminal who keeps killing because of a painful past.
Adivi Sesh and Meenakshi Chaudhary in ‘HIT 2’. (AdiviSesh/Twitter)
While Hit 2 follows the same pattern and has several cliches, it also has its moments and manages to impress in some scenes.
However, there are many loose ends in the movie, which raise questions from serious suspense thriller fans, about the way police carry on with the investigation of serial killings.
Sailesh Kolanu should have worked more on the script and made the movie compact and fast-paced.
Actors make up for shortcomings
Adivi Sesh is not new to such characters, and hence he pulled it off with ease.
Meenakshi Chaudhary looks cute as Sesh’s love interest. Komalee Prasad is impressive in the police officer’s role.
Suhas gets a meaty role in this suspense thriller. Actors like Rao Ramesh, Tanikella Bharani, and Posani Krishna Murali appear as supporting cast and do their bit. Being seasoned actors, they all made up for the shortcomings in the script.
Actor Nani also appears in the climax, hinting that he will star in HIT 3 .
It started with The Intense Cop. The Wildfire happened with The Cool Cop. 🥶🔥 Ruthless Cop Loading… #HIT2 is MASSIVE. #HitVerse ❤️ https://t.co/JrgmMcohzU — Adivi Sesh (@AdiviSesh) December 2, 2022
Cinematographer S Manikandan does a decent job, while editing by Garry BH is adequate.
MM Srilekha and Suresh Bobbili composed the songs. John Stewart did the background score. The BGM is in tune with the genre.
HIT 2 is a suspense thriller about police hunting a serial killer. This Adivi Sesh-starrer has both shortcomings and impressive moments. It can be watched once.

'HIT: The Second Case' movie review: A racy thriller with smart twists
It’s been weeks since we saw an engrossing thriller in Telugu cinema—especially the kind that requires you to suspend your disbelief and go for a roller-coaster ride. Pleasingly, director Sailesh Kolanu’s HIT: The Second Case , a second film in the HIT-verse, is exactly that kind of film. It’s a far-fetched thriller much in the tradition of its first film HIT: The First Case , and yet it’s thrilling enough for you to stop looking for the cliches and plot holes and go with the flow instead.
Starring Adivi Sesh, HIT 2 is a confident, competent, and gripping thriller that sucks you into its drama less than five minutes into the film and keeps you invested till the end credits roll.
Krishna Dev aka KD (Adivi Sesh), a Superintendent of Police in the Homicide Intervention Team (HIT) of Visakhapatnam has a better record in solving crimes than his contemporaries. He perceives that the criminals are birdbrained (kodi burralu) and is also well-known in his department for his sharp tongue. He lives with his girlfriend Aarya (Meenakshi Chaudhary) and his exceptionally talented dog Max.
KD and his team encounter a dismembered body of a woman, who was gruesomely killed by a serial killer. KD uses all his skills and expertise to decode the motive behind the chilling murder and makes every possible attempt to unmask the killer.
Sailesh Kolanu skillfully builds a real world around this murder mystery that moves at a racy pace with spurts of tension and thrill. There are some realistic scenes like the one where KD asks his forensic team to conduct a luminol test on a suspect at a crime scene and how he analyses the murder of a woman at a resto-bar.
Like any good thriller, HIT 2 never reveals all its cards at once. The layers come off one by one and each time you think you have got it all figured out, another twist hits you out of the blue. That doesn’t mean that you haven’t guessed some of the surprises in advance. With enough plot twists to confuse the viewers, the film keeps you on the edge of your seat for the most part. If you have watched enough Korean thrillers, then surely you can predict at least a few of the surprises yourself. After all, a serial killer on the loose and a cop sets out to nab him is a staple ingredient of a murder mystery.
The film’s only drawback is an amalgam of disturbing visuals that are meant to shock our senses. The film, in a few places, tends to get repetitive and loose. But for the most part, the narrative moves at a brisk pace, never really deviating from its thriller format.
The impact of a film of this nature depends largely on the performance and credibility its protagonist lends to the character. In Adivi Sesh, Sailesh Kolanu has found the perfect man for the task. Uninhibited, spontaneous, and blessed with an unmistakable presence, Sesh holds the screen like a fireball. He used his face to convey the emotions—from confusion, to fear, to anger, to shock —and he, undoubtedly, emerges as the biggest asset of this thriller. Meenakshi Chaudhary is charming but doesn’t get much scope to showcase her acting chops. The same is the case with Rao Ramesh, who played an underdeveloped character. Komalee Prasad as Varsha got a meaty role and her character remains almost parallel to the plot. Maganti Srinath, who played a crucial role in HIT 1 , leaves an impression in this film as well.
The film also has a moral core that will definitely resonate with its viewers. HIT 2 is not a great film, but it delivers what it promises to deliver. The film was slickly photographed and has some exciting visuals, but it’s got a boring romantic track that only adds to the film’s length. The film ends on an exciting note by introducing us to its new protagonist and also gives us a hint of what to expect from the third film in the HIT-verse titled HIT: The Third Case .
HIT: The Second Case
Cast: Adivi Sesh, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Rao Ramesh, Komalee Prasad Director: Sailesh Kolanu; Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Rathnam: Everything You Need to Know About Vishal’s Movie
By Aditi Rathi
Tamil star Vishal is known for his movies with mass action sequences. Throughout his career in the industry, the actor has given many blockbusters. He was last seen playing the lead protagonist in Marc Antony. The actor returns to the big screens with another action drama, Rathnam . After a long wait, fans will witness massive fight sequences with the added drama. While the movie is highly anticipated among the actor’s fans, very little is known about its plot.
Celebrated director Hari, known for his action films, has helmed the movie . It marks the 34th project of Vishal’s career in the film industry. After a long production process, the movie was wrapped up earlier this year. Its trailer, cast, runtime, and other details are as follows.
Rathnam trailer, cast & other details
The makers left the audience on the edge of their seats with a mysterious trailer for the film. Released a week before the movie’s premiere, the trailer did not spill much about Rathnam’s plot. The clip opens with an action sequence and introduces Vishal as Rathnam. The protagonist could be seen defending a woman he calls his “life and breath.” To save his ladylove, he fights goons with a sickle and defeats them easily.
Fans shared their excitement via comments to the trailer. One wrote, “Hari and Vishal’s combo is awesome. I’m waiting for this movie to see on the big screen,” while another penned, “Eagerly Waiting.”
Besides Vishal, Rathnam boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Priya Bhavani Shankar is the leading lady, while Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Ramachandra Raju, and others play supporting characters. So far, the details about the movie’s plot have been kept under wraps, but its first review has revealed that the movie is promising.
Tamil filmmaker Yoagandran Raako recently reviewed the movie and penned his verdict via X (formerly Twitter). The filmmaker wrote, “#Rathnam. Director Hari is back to form. Everything from @iYogiBabu comedy, Amma sentiment to high octane action sequences worked well to make it an engaging Masala entertainer. Good to watch with family. Another hit for @VishalKOfficial,” he added.

Rathnam release date, runtime & more
Rathnam is all set to hit the silver screens on April 26, 2024 . The movie has received a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. This means that the movie is unrestricted, however parental discretion is advised for children under 12 years. The movie’s runtime has also been locked at 156 minutes, i.e. 2 hours 36 minutes. The Vishal starrer is being simultaneously released in Tamil and Telugu.
According to 123telugu.com , Amazon Prime Video has acquired Rathnam’s digital rights. Moreover, the movie’s satellite rights are allegedly with ZEE TV. The movie’s OTT release date has not been revealed yet. However, most films in the Tamil and Telugu industry follow the four-week pattern. Therefore, the movie might be in the OTT space by the end of May.
Ahead of the film’s release, Vishal was rigorously promoting it. He has been sharing glimpses from his promotional spree on X (formerly Twitter). The actor is thankful for the love that he has received throughout this journey. Sharing a clip, the actor wrote, “Selfie moment! #rathnam is releasing tomorrow in Tamil and Telugu. Continuous love and support from all over. Thank you.”

Rathnam is another big-budget movie in Tamil cinema. Rumor has it that the movie’s budget is $6 million. Kaarthekeyen Santhanam is producing the film under the banner of Zee Studios and Stonebench Films. Devi Sri Prasad has served as the movie’s music composer.
All eyes are now on the movie’s box office collection.
Always lookin' for what's cookin', Aditi is a fan of American sitcoms and Indian cinema. The combination is as quirky as she is. Apart from writing all day, you can catch her playing with her street dogs, painting, or cooking.

You know it when you see it: here are some movies that got sex scenes right.
Linda Holmes
It is a happy coincidence that our "What makes a good sex scene?" episode came out in the same week as Challengers, a film about a romance triangle in the tennis world starring Josh O'Connor, Zendaya and (not pictured) Mike Faist. Niko Tavernise/Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures hide caption
It is a happy coincidence that our "What makes a good sex scene?" episode came out in the same week as Challengers, a film about a romance triangle in the tennis world starring Josh O'Connor, Zendaya and (not pictured) Mike Faist.
What makes a good sex scene? It can be easier spot bad sex, but Aisha Harris, Christina Tucker, Ronald Young, Jr. and I tried to focus on the good this week on Pop Culture Happy Hour. You can listen to our full conversation here. (We didn't originally plan for this episode to run the same week as our episode about Challengers , which is out in theaters now, but it's a happy coincidence, since that film has gotten a lot of attention — probably too much, relative to its other merits — for the sex scenes involving its three leads. It's really very good .)
Movie Reviews
Watch a tense romantic triangle play out on the tennis court in 'challengers'.
It's often very obvious when a sex scene is bad, just like when a sex scene in a book is bad. It can get so uncomfortable to watch that you have to leave the room (and not in a way that feels true to the story). One of my personal tells for a bad sex scene is when all I can think about is how hard the actors are trying to persuade me that the characters are having a good time. For example, there has been much good discussion in recent years about Showgirls being a more interesting and competent project than it originally got credit for, but in that one pool scene (if you know it, you know it), all I can see is the effort.
Lauren Bacall And The 'Sex? What Sex?' Kind Of Movie Sex
It's not always as clear which scenes are good . That's partly because they serve so many different functions, all of which look different, and all of which can be effective. Furthermore, you don't want to confuse whether a sex scene is used well in a film with whether it's hot to you personally, despite the fact that there is overlap between those considerations.
In the 'Last Dance,' Magic Mike leaves his thong-and-dance routine behind
Here's what I mean: When Aisha talks about the sequence near the beginning of Magic Mike's Last Dance , it's not irrelevant that the scene is, to her (and to me), hot. But it also makes sense in the context of the film and the franchise, partly because of the way it sets up the power dynamic between Mike (Channing Tatum) and Max (Salma Hayek Pinault). Mike is older now, he knows more, and the way he approaches a lap dance is actually different than in earlier movies.
And not all good sex scenes are hot in the same ways. The one I mentioned in the episode, from the romantic drama Love & Basketball , is sexy, yes. But it's also a scene between young adults (the talented basketball players Monica and Quincy, played by Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps), and as such, it incorporates a tentativeness that's not present in Magic Mike's Last Dance , to say the least. As Ronald pointed out during our discussion, that sex scene is quite different from one that takes place later in Monica and Quincy's relationship, when they're older and know each other better. That certainly feels true to real life, but it's not always reflected in Hollywood films, where I would tentatively estimate that 90% of on-screen sex is more idealized and thus less intimate than real-life sex, in part because it isn't allowed to change over the course of a relationship.
Movie Interviews
'like it or not, we live in oppenheimer's world,' says director christopher nolan.
Even further from the hotness of the lap dance scene is Ronald's pick: the imagination of Kitty Oppenheimer (Emily Blunt) running wild in Oppenheimer. While her husband (Cillian Murphy) is being interrogated, she pictures him having sex with his mistress, Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh). It goes by quickly enough that it might seem like a Christopher Nolan flourish for flourish's sake, but it serves the purpose of letting you feel her pain over her husband's affair. Her relationship with Robert doesn't look especially romantic in the film, let alone sexually charged; she finds herself consumed by the idea that he was having hot sex with this other woman, and she locks eyes with her vision of a naked Tatlock and finds herself tormented. It's not really the intent of the scene to titillate the audience, just to give specificity to the shape of Kitty's preoccupation with the affair.
What makes a good sex scene?
Christina raised another really important point, which is that sex scenes also collide with viewers at very specific moments. Her example from Bound , and the scenes between Violet (Jennifer Tilly) and Corky (Gina Gershon), touches on (among other things) her own history. It's an underappreciated aspect of the sex-in-movies discourse: representation matters in these scenes as much as anywhere else. I always wish I saw more sex scenes in movies that featured a broader variety of body types; it's still really rare to see ones that feature anybody who is even average sized. This is one of the reasons I'm curious about the upcoming season of Bridgerton , which places its focus on the gorgeous and curvaceous Penelope (Nicola Coughlan).

Good sex scenes are like any other kind of good filmmaking, honestly: it comes down to execution with purpose and care, done relative to whatever the function of the scene might be.
Whether that's spiciness or conflict or relationship growth or (as in the case of Bound ) setting up a steamy neo-noir story that wouldn't be the same if it weren't hot as heck, form follows function, ideally.

Rathnam Box Office Collection Day 2: Vishal’s Tamil Actioner Earns More Than Every Hindi Film Running In Theaters RN!
Vishal's action film has been performing better than major hindi and tamil releases of 2024 at the box office..
There has been an interim battle between the South Indian industries this year, with Telugu and Malayalam films performing very well at the box office and Kannada and Tamil films lagging a bit behind. But it seems like good things might eventually come in Kollywood as well with Rathnam’s release.
Rathnam Box Office Collection Day 2
Vishal’s film earned almost 2 crore on the second day of its release. It registered an opening of around 2.3 crore on day 1, with almost 80 lakh coming from the Telugu version and the rest from the Tamil version. In two days, the film has earned a decent 4.30 crore at the box office.
Expected Growth On Sunday
While Rathnam witnessed a negligible drop on the 1st Saturday, the film is expected to grow on the first Sunday, according to the early trends of occupancy reports. It might replace Jayam Ravi ‘s Siren and enter the list of the top 5 Tamil weekend openers of 2024 as well.
Will Eye Siren Weekend
Rathnam will push Jayam Ravi & Keerthy Suresh’s Siren to number 5 in the list of highest-earning weekends for Tamil films in 2024. Jayam Ravi starrer has collected 5.65 crore in the first weekend whereas Vishal’s action film is already close to Siren’s figure in two days itself.
Here are the top 5 Tamil Weekend Collections of 2024.
- Captain Miller: 23.90 crore
- Lal Salaam: 9.90 crore
- Ayalaan: 13.90 c ro r e
- Siren: 5.65 crore
- Rathnam: 4.30 crore (in 2 days)
Rathnam is a Tamil action film directed by Hari and his third collaboration with Vishal. The film also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar, Yogi Babu & Murali Sharma.
Note: Box office numbers are based on estimates and various sources. Numbers have not been independently verified by Koimoi.
