My Favorite Game Hockey Essay In 100 to 200 Words

Hockey is a sport that has captured the hearts of people around the world for centuries. It is a game that brings together skill, speed, and teamwork in a thrilling and engaging way. In this essay, I will share why hockey is my favorite game and why it holds a special place in my heart.

First and foremost, what I love most about hockey is its fast-paced nature. The game is played on ice, and the players move with lightning speed, creating an exciting and dynamic atmosphere. Each moment on the ice is filled with anticipation, as players swiftly navigate the rink, trying to outmaneuver their opponents. The fast pace of hockey keeps me on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting the next exhilarating play.

Additionally, hockey is a physical sport that demands toughness and resilience from its players. Checking, or body contact between players, is a common occurrence in hockey, adding an element of intensity to the game. While fights are not encouraged, they do occasionally happen and further showcase the passion and dedication players have for their team and the sport. The physicality of hockey adds to the excitement and makes it all the more captivating to watch.

One of the aspects of hockey that I find truly captivating is the emphasis on teamwork. Hockey is a team sport, and success on the ice depends on the ability of players to communicate and collaborate effectively. Teammates need to work together to score goals and protect their own net from opponents. The sense of unity and camaraderie among players as they strive towards a common goal is what makes hockey a joy to watch.

Furthermore, hockey requires a high level of skill from its players. They must be proficient in various areas, including skating, shooting, passing, and defending. The artistry displayed by skilled players as they handle the puck and make strategic moves is truly impressive and adds to the excitement of the game. The skill required to play hockey is what makes it such an awe-inspiring and remarkable sport to watch.

Beyond the thrill of the game itself, hockey holds a rich tradition that spans generations and cultures. 10 Reasons Hockey Is the Greatest Sport on Earth

If you’re reading this, you’re probably already aware that hockey is the undisputed best sport on the planet. But if you really need some extra convincing, here’s a list of ten things (in no particular order) that make hockey the greatest sport on Earth:

1. It’s Played on a Giant Sheet of Ice

Football, basketball, baseball – what do they all have in common? They’re played on the solid ground, not a slippery sheet of ice. The athletes that play those sportswear shoes, not sharp blades of steel on the bottoms of their feet. I’m not saying basketball, baseball, and football players aren’t serious athletes, I’m just saying they’re not as talented as hockey players. Hockey players have to combine all that speed and agility on top of managing to stay upright on a large ice cube. If that’s not skill, I don’t know what is.

(Then again, they’re only human. Sometimes they fall down, too.)

2. The Players Have the Ability to Control the Game

In other major sports, the majority of games are usually decided by the referees or umpires. In hockey, it is to a certain extent, but the players definitely have the ability to control the game on a different level. They can speed it up, slow it down, or shake things up with big hits or fights. In this sport, the athletes truly have control of the game, which makes it much more entertaining to watch.

3. Hockey Is a Team Sport

Some sports, even though they’re considered “team sports,” are sometimes monopolized by an individual athlete. Football has quarterbacks, baseball has pitchers, hockey has a team. Although it’s possible for one hockey player to be the superstar of the team, this sport

Colorado Avalanche 2022 Stanley Cup Champions

makes it impossible for a team to win unless they play together. Everybody needs to be on the same page if things are to work in this sport and that makes it all the better. After all, there’s no “I” in “hockey.”

4. The Speed

No other sport even comes close to hockey in terms of speed. Everything about this sport is fast-paced: the slap shots, the game pace, the players. Every other sport moves at a glacial pace in comparison to this one. There’s no time for dozing off in hockey – something is always happening and if you blink, chances are you’ll miss it. Constant action is one of the many reasons hockey is the greatest sport on the planet.

5. The Insane Playoff Format

You can argue every other point on this list, (except six; that’s a fact, too) but you can’t argue that the NHL playoffs are, without a doubt, the most grueling of all the major sports. In order to become champion in this league, you must survive four rounds of grueling, backbreaking play, on top of the seven months of brutal regular-season games that have already been completed.

There’s no stopping nor breaks for these boys – Only twenty-eight games to prove that you deserve Lord Stanley. Good luck finding another sport that requires that much work and devotion to win the title.

6. Hockey Players Are Warriors

There’s no doubt about it, hockey players are the toughest athletes out there. They get blasted in the face with a puck and keep playing. They break bones on the ice but finish the shift . There’s just nothing that stops them. Rich Peverley literally died for a few seconds on the ice and after being revived, asked to be put back into the game. Classic hockey player.

Basketball players sit out for the season with ingrown fingernails. Baseball pitchers can’t pitch because of blisters. Hockey players ask to play more after having their faces stitched back together. If that’s not a warrior, I don’t know what is.

7. The Lingo

If you’ve ever spoken to a hockey player, you know very well just how hilarious hockey lingo is. From “beauty” to “bender,” hockey has a language of its own. No other sport requires a dictionary to decode what’s happening. This hockey jargon makes things a bit complicated at times, but it also adds to the greatness of the sport.

If you feel the desire to learn how to speak like a hockey player, read up on the ultimate hockey dictionary here .

8. Goal Celebrations

In most sports, scoring requires some sort of celebration . However, in hockey, scoring means a celly is coming and that is much more than your average celebration. That’s an all-out-spin-in-circles-flail-around celebration of awesomeness and the goal that was just put in the net. Not every goal requires a celly, but when they happen, it’s definitely worth watching.

9. The Traditions and Superstitions

From playoff beards to pre-game rituals, hockey is a sport bursting with traditions and superstitions. Other sports have their customs, but none come close to hockey. These men grow facial hair for good luck or insist on eating the same exact meal before every game.

Some guys get really strange with their superstitions : Max Talbot boxed with Marc-Andre Fleury before every game, while Karl Alzner used to tap his stick 88 times and outline the Canadian maple leaf during the National Anthem. Hall of Fame goaltender Glenn Hall used to vomit before every game, believing he’d lose unless he lost his lunch before taking the ice.

Although they’re odd, these superstitions and bizarre traditions set hockey apart from all else.

10. Hockey Players Are Nice Guys

This may be a generalization, but hockey players seem to be the nicest professional athletes. They may act tough on the ice, but they’re giant teddy bears off the ice.

It’s common to hear of players from across the league performing little acts of kindness. Last year a group of Boston Bruins players dressed up as characters from Disney’s  Frozen  and visited the Boston Children’s Hospital. Former Colorado Avalanche Matt Duchene purchased a jersey for an 11-year-old girl who was bullied at school. Charlie Coyle , formerly of the Minnesota Wild, made a young boy’s day just by waving at him during warmups.

Both on and off the ice, hockey players make this sport the greatest of them all. If you didn’t believe it before, you should now: Hockey is the greatest sport on earth.

I usually talk about #6 when explaining why the NHL is the best, but #2 is just ridiculous. I agree with Oren, in no other major sport (Soccer is pretty close) do the refs have more influence than hockey. Imagine: NFL – Hey Running back, that was a pretty awful tackle. we’re going to give you the ball on the 50 yard line, and that safety is going to try to stop you from scoring. go!” NBA – Wow! that was a really bad foul, You have to play a man down for the next 5 minutes no matter how many baskets they make. MLB – ok…beaning the batter is bad form. He gets a free shot at a home run, he can toss the ball up to himself.

great article Alli! well put together and to the point

Awesome article! So true!

I can’t figure out which was more cute, the player sliding the other player toward the bench, or the smile on the little boy’s face after the Wild player waved. Yep, hockey can indeed best, they left out the fact that AS A FAN or non-player, it’s OKAY to appreciate more than one team. Also, Canada’s National Anthem is pretty awesome.

I totally agree, Allison! Not shocked that you are a fellow-Minnesotan, though. I believe Minnesota only has 2 seasons: 1) road construction; 2) hockey season.

Yes, this is very true! At least we get lots of hockey!

Spot on… Hands down the best sport and the nicest athletes! Well done! I’ve been fortunate to know a lot of NHL players and you wont find a better group of people in any sport….

Awesome (and true) article! Thanks Allison! – Go Wings! – Dave

Thanks, Dave! Good luck to your Wings!

I love hockey, and it is my favorite sport. However, number 2 is simply stupid. The fact is that there is no other sport in which the refs can change the game as much as they can in hockey. There is no comparison with any other penalty handed out in any other sport and the power play. The refs call literally makes the game uneven by taking a person off the ice for a full 2 minutes or more. I’m not critiquing that at all, I’m just saying don’t praise the fact that somehow the officials in hockey effect the game less than in the other 3.

I love everything about this article. Well done!

Glad to hear! Thank you!

essay on my favourite sport hockey

Why Hockey is my Favourite Sport

My favourite sport is hockey. I know what you are thinking, another typical Canadian who favourite sport is hockey, but here’s the catch I like both ice hockey and ball hockey. I like ice hockey because it’s a fast, suspenseful and intense sport. I normally watch the NHL and my favourite team is obviously the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks have been my favourite team ever since I was 7 years old. Since watching my favourite team play, I’ve got to see them go to the Stanley cup final only one time, and that was in 2011. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I still remember the iconic goal that Alex Burrows scores in overtime against the Chicago Blackhawks.

At the time Chicago was the team to beat, as the Canucks played them several of times in the first round of the playoffs, but they always lost to them. Not this time though. This time it was the Canucks turn to beat the Blackhawks and they finally did! Once they finally knocked off the Chicago Blackhawks, it was all easy street from there as they beat the Nashville Predators in the second round and the San Jose Sharks in the third round. Unfortunately, though the Canucks playoff winning streak will come to an end in the Stanley cup final when they took on the Boston Bruins. However, even though they still managed to force a game 7 against the Boston Bruins, there were unable to complete their goal of the winning the Stanley cup that year as the Bruins won in game 7 to take the championship.

Today the Canucks have built another strong team and were able to make it to the second round of the playoffs, but they were unable to win in the second round as they were defeated by the Vegas Golden Knights. Now it’s up to the Canucks to do it again next year as they are going to be making some moves during the off-season to try to win the Stanley Cup next year. Now, I said that I like both ice hockey and ball hockey, so now I’m going to be talking about ball hockey.

I first got into ball hockey back in grade 10 of high school. I played on a team and we were doing well. I had to unfortunately stopped though because I ended up having a cardiac arrest that year, but once I recovered from that I was able to finish the rest of the season off. I continued to play ball hockey up until grade 11. In grade 11 we had a great team and my dad was even the assistant coach, and that was really cool! Also, our team went to provincials, but we only came up with fourth place, which is really good though because at least we were in the top five. That was a really cool season indeed. Hockey will always be my favourite sport in life, and I will keep on continuing to watch it because it’s just a fun sport to watch.

There’s lots of hitting, goals, and fights, and that’s really fun to watch. Also last year I got commentate for an ice hockey team called the Valley West Giants who play out of the Langley Events Centre and are a part of the BCMML hockey league. Hockey commentating is something that I’ve always wanted to do in life, because I thought that it will be really cool, and it was indeed! I had a blast being the play by play commentator for the Valley West Giants as it helped me with my communication skills, and it helped really shape my personality as well too. Unfortunately, though, I didn’t get to finish the entire season because of COVID-19 that came in and everything, but that’s ok I still really enjoyed being a play by play commentator for the Valley West Giants. I would totally be the play by play commentator for the Valley West Giants again because they are a really good team and a great organization as well to!

Also, before the pandemic hit and everything, I used to go play hockey. I would just go with my dad to drop in hockey night and the nearest area near my house and we would just skate around and shoot the puck around too. Sometime if there were enough people, we would form two teams and play against each other. That was really cool too! Also, it was really cheap to go skate around and shoot a puck around too. I believe it was only fifteen dollars in total which is a great dead indeed! Hopefully once the pandemic is over I could again with my dad, and we can go for a little skate and shoot the puck around once again too.

Hockey is Canada’s greatest sport, it has been around for years whether it’s kids playing on the ice at the nearest rink in the community, or people just playing it in their drive ways. It has helped form the National Hockey League, and it has helped form jobs to as well. It really is an all-around awesome sport! And it really brings people together, so that they can each cheer on the team that they are cheering on for, and it’s even better when your team wins the cup as well too. That just has to be the cherry on top, because even though I haven’t experienced it yet, I’m sure that it’s a great experience, and a great feeling as well to.

All in all, hockey is one of the best sports in the world, and it brings people together, and actually here’s a fun fact. Did you know that the Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to win in all of sports? Yes, it is and that’s what makes this sport even more fun than watch and play as well too. I hope you enjoyed reading this, and what’s your favourite sport? And why? Let me know in the comments down below and thank you!

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Favourite Game’ for Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on ‘my favourite game is cricket’, essay on ‘my favourite game is kabaddi’, essay on ‘my favourite game is hockey’.

  • Essay On ‘My Favourite is Game is Ludo’

Essay on ‘My Favourite Game is Volleyball’

Short essay on ‘my favourite game is carrom’, essay on ‘my favorite sport is football’, long essay on ‘my favourite game is badminton’, what will your child learn by writing an essay on ‘my favourite game’.

If there’s one thing all children absolutely love, it is playing games. Be it an outdoor sport or an indoor game, children love their playtime. It is the time of day when they take a break from school, homework and other chores at home to have a good time. They get together with their friends and siblings, and enjoy activities that they all like. ‘My Favourite Game’ is an exciting topic for an essay for children of lower primary classes. They will be full of ideas for what to include in the composition. Organising these ideas and presenting them in words will improve their writing skills. When writing about sports, children will be expected to touch upon various aspects of it. Here are some samples which will guide children of classes 1, 2 & 3 to write about some popular sports.

‘My Favourite Game’ is a moderately challenging topic for children. They need to remember certain facts about the game of their choice and express why it is their favourite. Here are some essential tips:

  • When writing about a game, start by talking about the game’s popularity.
  • Write about the different aspects of that game that makes it your personal favourite.
  • Talk about how often you play the game.
  • Mention how it is a part of your school life.
  • Dive into details of the game only in a longer essay.

Cricket is a popular game in India, making it a topic that is easy for a short essay for children. Here is how to write a short 10-line essay on cricket for class 1.

  • Cricket is the most popular and loved sport in the country.
  • I enjoy watching cricket with my family and playing the game with my friends.
  • People in my country are very passionate about cricket and watch the matches with a lot of enthusiasm.
  • I play cricket with my friends at home and at school.
  • I am a good batsman and fielder, and my friends have the same opinion.
  • In cricket, there are 11 players on each team. Each team has a batsman, a bowler, a wicket-keeper and many fielders.
  • At the beginning, there is a coin toss. The winner chooses to bat or bowl.
  • My favourite cricket players are Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
  • Everybody is interested in cricket scores during an important match.
  • Seeing cricket on TV is fun but going to a stadium is the most fun you can have as a cricket fan.

Kabaddi is a regional sport that has existed for many generations in India. It is a physically demanding game played by seven players on each team. In the game, two teams stand opposite each other. A player from one team enters the opponent’s court while continuously saying “kabbadi”. If he touches one of the players and returns to his side, his team wins a point. The opposite team tries to stop him from going back till he runs out of breath and stops saying kabaddi. If they manage to stop him, he loses. I am very good at Kabaddi because I can run very fast before anyone can catch me. I am also able to hold my breath for a very long time. Kabaddi is my favourite because it is a challenging game and one has to be very strong and fast to win at it.

Hockey is my favourite game because it is challenging and also a lot of fun at the same time. It is the national game of India and is also played throughout the world. In the game, there are 11 players on each team. The teams have to chase a ball with their hockey sticks and score a goal. Along with playing hockey, I also love watching it on television. Although it is a national sport, hockey is not very common in the country. The popularity needs to increase, and more people should take up the game in schools and colleges.

Essay On ‘My Favourite is Game is Ludo’

Ludo is a popular board game among all children. I play it with my family and friends on weekends when we meet. Ludo is my favourite because I can play the game anytime and anywhere. The game is also available on mobile phones, but I like playing it on the gameboard when I am home. It requires at least two players and a maximum of four. In ludo, each player gets four tokens to play. The players roll the dice turn by turn and move ahead on the board accordingly. The first player who takes all his tokens to the finishing point wins. I also have a magnetic board and tokens for playing the game while travelling to a holiday destination. I like playing ludo with new people and making new friends.

I enjoy playing all ball games, but volleyball is my favourite of them all. The game has two teams standing on opposite sides of a court with a net in between. The first team serves the ball, and the opposite team returns it by hitting the ball with their wrist. If the ball reaches out of the court boundary or touches the net, the team that hits the ball loses. The game requires you to stay focused all the time, as even a small lapse of judgment can cost you the winning point. Unlike other games where you can take your eyes off the ball, you cannot do the same in volleyball until you have gained or lost a point. I like volleyball because it is all about strong team coordination. Everybody has to cooperate and work together to win.

Carrom is one of the best board games there is! It is a two-player game, but I love playing it alone too. I enjoy it because it requires strength, accuracy and swiftness while striking every move. The game is fun but challenging because it requires precise moves with an understanding of force and direction of the strike. It took me many months to learn how to shoot the striker properly and hit the tokens on the board. It takes a lot of time to become good at the game as we need a lot of practice to excel in it.

My favourite game is football. It is a popularly played sport throughout the world! The best teams from every country make it to the world cup, and people across the globe watch it with interest. I love football because there is a sense of freedom in playing the game. It is physically demanding as we have to run around the field to score a goal and simultaneously defend our side of the goal post. I play football every day in school with my classmates. I also play football with other children in my neighbourhood. It is a great way to make friends as you learn to play as a team.

Many of us dream of becoming great footballers someday. I always work on my skills because my coach says we can make it to the state or national level championships if we play well. Football is just as much about strategy and teamwork as it is about physical endurance. We also need great discipline and team cohesion to become a great football team.

When writing a long essay, students have to plan what they are about to write. For writing about a sport, they will need to give a few details about the game and why they like it in the rest of the essay. Here is a sample essay on badminton for students of class 3:

Badminton is a popular sport throughout the world. Many people worldwide watch it on TV, and many play it as a leisure sport. My interest in badminton started when I visited the sports centre in our locality. I was hooked on the sport soon after my first game. Unlike many other games that I play, I find that badminton is fun and challenging at the same time. The game requires two players. We need great stamina to move around the court to serve and return the shuttlecock by hitting it with the racket.

Badminton can be played by anyone as long as they love games. There are a few rules for playing the game in a competition or championship. You can choose to relax some of the rules and play just for fun as per your own plan.

Badminton is a game that gives a full-body workout. You will have to constantly move around the court in the direction of the shuttlecock and hit it using your racket with the required force. Throughout the game, you exercise your legs, torso and upper body.

I am known as the best badminton player in my school because I practise in the evening every day. I have participated in many events at the regional and national levels, and won several championships. In recent years, badminton has also become popular in video games. My love for the sport makes me play that too, however, I prefer to play the sport on an actual court with a real opponent. The thrill of hitting the shuttlecock high into the air and running around to chase it is unmatched in a video game.

When writing an essay on their favourite game, your child will learn how to express themselves coherently in the written word. Writing about sports involves explaining the rules of a game, its unique rules, and several other aspects. Students will gather thorough knowledge about their favourite sport to write this essay. They will also improve their general knowledge while memorising facts like famous players of the sport.

Since playing games is a fun activity for children, they will enjoy writing this essay as they combine their knowledge, feelings and writing skills to compose an excellent essay.

My Favourite Game Hockey Essay

My Favourite Game Hockey Essay in English

My favourite game hockey essay.

Every game is good but Hockey is my favourite game. Like cricket and football, it is also a very interesting game. It first started in England and gradually spread throughout the world in various forms. At this time, this game has gained a lot of popularity in Pakistan as well.

A Hockey team has a total of eleven players. Each player has a “Hockey”. Hockey requires a perfectly smooth field so that the players do not face any difficulty in playing. A hockey field is 300 feet long and one hundred feet wide.

There are two goals facing each other with a net behind it and in front of it there is a half circle i.e. D. The player who stands in it is called the “goalkeeper”. He saves the ball from going into the goal. The success of a team depends on the smartness and agility of the goalkeeper.

Two players on the team support the goalkeeper, known as “fullbacks”. There are three players in front of the fullbacks called “halfbacks” and those who pass the ball forward are called center forwards. These are five in number. Well, all the players do their duties but center forwards are very helpful in moving the ball back and forth and scoring goals.

During the match, an umpire is appointed to decide the rules and regulations of Hockey. He is called “referee” in the language of the game. He has full powers to start and stop the game and if any player makes a mistake, he gives the final and definitive decision. No appeal is ever entertained against his decision. A good referee is always impartial.

Playing hockey gives the body a workout. Like other sports, hockey players develop some positive habits. They develop a spirit of helping each other. The habit of respecting one’s senior is strong. These good habits help them to become good citizens of the society.

The fast pace of the game keeps me on the edge of my seat, as every moment is filled with anticipation and excitement.

Hockey is also a sport that requires teamwork and coordination. Players must work together to defend their goal, create scoring opportunities, and support each other on the field or rink. The camaraderie and bond between teammates are evident in the way they communicate and collaborate to achieve their common goal of winning the game.

Cricket is not just a sport; it’s a passion, a tradition, and a way of life for millions of fans around the world. As a cricket enthusiast, I am drawn to the rich history, strategic gameplay, and electrifying moments that make cricket my favorite sport.

Strategic gameplay is another compelling aspect of cricket that keeps me hooked. Unlike many other sports, cricket is as much a mental battle as it is a physical one. The term “gentleman’s game” is often used to describe cricket, reflecting the spirit of fair play, respect, and integrity that pervades the sport. Whether it’s the post-match handshake or the tradition of applauding an opponent’s century, cricket embodies the values of sportsmanship and mutual respect.

One of the most memorable aspects of cricket is the electrifying moments that define the game. Whether it’s a breathtaking catch, a blistering century, or a last-ball thriller, cricket has a knack for producing unforgettable moments that are etched in the annals of sporting history. From iconic matches like the 2005 Ashes series to individual brilliance like Sachin Tendulkar’s “Desert Storm” innings in Sharjah, cricket has provided fans with countless memories to cherish.

Furthermore, cricket has a unique ability to unite people across boundaries, cultures, and continents. It transcends barriers of language, religion, and nationality, bringing together diverse communities in a shared celebration of the sport. Whether it’s the roar of the crowd in a packed stadium or the camaraderie among fans watching a match in a local pub, cricket has a way of fostering a sense of belonging and unity among its followers.

In conclusion, cricket is more than just a sport; it’s a source of joy, camaraderie, and inspiration for millions of fans worldwide. With its rich history, strategic gameplay, spirit of sportsmanship, electrifying moments, and unifying influence, cricket holds a special place in the hearts of fans like myself. My Favourite Sport Essay 100 words

I am a great fan of basketball. I used to practice this game since I was in class 5th. My parents and my coach encouraged me a lot to perform well in my favourite sport. I believe that it is a game that combines strategy, athleticism, and teamwork . The best thing I like about this sport is the dribbling of the basketball. I love playing basketball with my friends at the society’s basketball court.

We used to gather every evening at 6:30 and play a match regularly to maintain the stamina and the pace of precision shooting. The winning situation in this game is completely dependent on teamwork, the result could be truly magical. Basketball is the sport that keeps me captivated with its adrenaline-pumping excitement.

Essay on My Favourite 250 words

My favourite sport is everyone’s favourite. Yes, Cricket it is. Cricket is often known as the ‘ Gentleman’s Game .’ Almost every Indian loves cricket for us this sport is not just a game it is an emotion. The entire Nation keeps a keen eye on the World Cup match when our country is performing.

My idol is Hon’ble Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. In my childhood, I tried to copy their style and always wished to be a good cricket player. As it is rightly said ‘Practice makes a Man Perfect.’ I also believed in it and practised with my school cricket team to become a good cricket player. My endurance and dedication helped me to secure the position of opening batsman for the school cricket team and we are presenting our school at the district-level cricket competition.

The main reason cricket resonates with me is its rich history and traditions. It’s a sport that has been played for centuries, and it carries with it a sense of timelessness. The iconic venues, the legends of the game, and the celebrated rivalries all contribute to the sport’s allure. Whether it’s the Ashes battles between England and Australia or the fervent India-Pakistan contests, cricket has a way of gripping the hearts and minds of fans around the world.

Cricket not only teaches sportsmanship but also helps us learn about teamwork, patience, dedication, etc. My dream is to build a successful cricket career. To accomplish my goals I am planning to take admission in the cricket academy and learn from experts.

In conclusion, cricket is more than a sport to me; it’s a culture, a passion, and a source of endless joy in my life. Its rich heritage, technical intricacies, and life lessons will forever held close to my heart.

Essay on My Favourite Sport Badminton

Among all the indoor and outdoor activities, I love to play badminton the most. Badminton is played as an indoor and outdoor game but traditionally it was an indoor game. It is one of the most admired sports among children and adults. Badminton is my favourite sport because it requires speed, practice, precision, stamina, and accuracy all at the same time.

A player needs to be very attentive while playing badminton. When each stroke of the shuttle makes a ‘whoosh’ sound, it infuses a feeling of competitiveness and enthusiasm to perform extraordinarily against the opponent.

I am a huge admirer of Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu. Watching them perform makes me feel so proud and more inclined towards the sport. It’s my dream to play a badminton tournament at the National level and win for the country.

Shooting requires good technique and accuracy, and teamwork is essential for passing the ball and setting up plays. These skills make basketball a challenging and rewarding sport to play, and they are what makes it so enjoyable for me.

Finally, watching professional basketball games and playing basketball with friends are both enjoyable activities for me. Basketball is a sport that requires both physical skill and strategic thinking. It involves running, jumping, and moving quickly, as well as making split-second decisions on the court. This combination of physical and mental challenges is what makes basketball so appealing to me. Not only do you have to be quick and agile, but you also have to be able to outsmart your opponents and anticipate their movements. This makes each game unique and thrilling, as you never know what will happen next.

Playing basketball provides a great workout and improves hand-eye coordination. The constant movement and jumping help to build endurance and strengthen muscles, while the need to handle the ball and shoot accurately improves hand-eye coordination. Additionally, basketball is a sport that can be played with others, which makes it a great way to socialize and build teamwork skills. The fast-paced nature of the game and the need for quick decision-making also help to improve cognitive function and reaction time.

The fast-paced nature of basketball and the need for teamwork make it a thrilling and rewarding sport to play. At This Hockey Game, the Biggest Save Might Have Kept a Boy Alive

A man deflected a puck heading straight for a boy’s head at a game in Ohio. With the help of TikTok, his mother was reunited with her son’s protector.

A young boy holds up a hockey puck while a man wearing a hat backwards smiles in the background.

By Orlando Mayorquín

Asia Davis was up late thinking about the harrowing finish to the hockey game the night before, and decided that she needed to find the man who might have saved her son’s life. So she went on TikTok.

“Out of nowhere this puck comes out of heaven straight toward my son’s head,” Ms. Davis said in a TikTok video posted early Saturday.

She had taken her son and a friend to watch the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League play the Laval Rocket on Thursday.

Near the end of the game, a rogue puck blasted off the ice, over the glass and into the stands where Nasir, 4, was sitting.

Just as suddenly, Ms. Davis said, a man in a backward baseball cap and gray sweater leaned over to swat it away.

Ms. Davis credits that man, Andrew Podolak, 28, with saving her son from a life-changing blow, or worse. The puck had come so close that her son had ice chips in his hair, she said.

“I held the puck and felt how heavy it was, and knowing how fast it was going, I kind of wanted to throw up,” Ms. Davis, 33, said in a phone interview on Sunday night.

She thanked Mr. Podolak and snapped a picture of him with her son. Her son didn’t realize he had nearly been hit, she said, and he was “over the moon” when he got to keep the puck.

But the disquieting scenario kept running through her mind. She had trouble sleeping.

She needed to know the name of the quick-acting man.

So she turned to TikTok early Saturday morning for help, posting a video of the close encounter taken by her friend, along with a picture she had snapped of the man and her son.

@asiafromakron Tiktok do your thing! @Cleveland Monsters @Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse #lakeeriemonsters #clevelandtok #216 #fyp #clevelandkids #foryoupage #greenscreen ♬ original sound - AsiaFromAkron

Ms. Davis woke up at around 10 a.m. to over 600,000 views and a flooded inbox, including one from Mr. Podolak.

“He had just said: ‘Everything happens for a reason. I’m glad little man is OK,’” Ms. Davis said.

The Monsters organization saw Ms. Davis’s TikTok video, which now has over 4 million views, and invited her, Nasir and Mr. Podolak to drop the puck before the team played the Laval Rocket again at home on Saturday evening.

Mr. Podolak and Nasir met again, this time on the ice, and amid a swarm of television cameras and microphones.

“I had a couple other kids sitting behind me as well so I just tried jumping in front of it and it was able to deflect off my hand,” Mr. Podolak told reporters , referring to the stray puck.

It is rare for a hockey fan to be killed by a puck. In 2002, a 13-year-old girl died after she was struck in the head by a puck at a game in Columbus, Ohio, the only death of a fan in the history of the National Hockey League. Protective netting at each end of N.H.L. rinks was later mandated. The A.H.L., a feeder league for the N.H.L., followed suit.

At professional hockey games, announcements typically caution fans to look out for flying pucks. A similar warning is written on the backs of tickets or posted on scoreboards.

On Sunday, Ms. Davis said that moments after the flying-puck incident, Mr. Podolak told her that he had just happened to sit next to Nasir even though he also had tickets for other seats.

“‘I was supposed to be here,’” Ms. Davis recalled him telling her.

“A couple of people were like, ‘Wow, that was a really close call, that was really lucky,’” Ms. Davis said. “But I don’t think it was luck. I think that was fate.”

3 things to know about Rangers vs. Capitals first-round NHL playoff series

essay on my favourite sport hockey

The New York Rangers' first-round opponent is set.

The Washington Capitals clinched the Eastern Conference's second and final wild-card spot with Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, setting up an opening series against the Presidents' Trophy-winning Blueshirts.

Postgame takeaways: Rangers clinch Presidents' Trophy in regular-season finale

It will be the 10th playoff meeting between the Metro Division rivals, with the Rangers winning five of the previous nine. That includes the most recent in 2015, when New York rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to win in seven games.

This latest chapter is expected to begin Sunday at Madison Square Garden, with the start time to be announced.

We'll have plenty of time between now and then to dive deep and preview the matchup, but let's start with three things to know about the surprising Capitals.

Holding off the rebuild

It wasn't too long ago when no one was expecting the Caps to be in this position.

They came out of the all-star break sitting seven points out of a wild-card spot, needing to leapfrog four teams to rally their way back into the playoff picture. Then they appeared to wave the white flag by selling off forwards Evgeny Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha and defenseman Joel Edmundson at the trade deadline.

It seems the players, which includes an aging core of John Carlson, T.J. Oshie and all-time-great Alex Ovechkin, had other plans.

That trio, along with Rangers' arch nemesis Tom Wilson, were major parts of the 2017-18 Stanley Cup winner. But Carlson is 34, while Oshie is 37 and Ovechkin is 38. Their best days are behind them, with an inevitable rebuild already partially underway.

Washington began that process by hiring 42-year-old head coach Spencer Carbery − a candidate the Blueshirts themselves flirted with but never got too serious about − last summer, and he's showing why he was viewed as one of the top up-and-coming assistants around the league. He's gotten enough out of his veterans, including a 31-goal season from Ovechkin on his march to Wayne Gretzky's record of 894, while grooming a new generation of talent that includes forwards Hendrix Lapierre, Aliaksei Protas and Connor McMichael and defenseman Martin Fehérváry. He's also overseen a career year from Dylan Strome, who led the Capitals with 67 points, and a breakout season for goalie Charlie Lindgren. (More on the latter in a bit.)

Carbery got the group to buy into a grinding style that emphasizes finishing plays on the interior, with many of Washington's goals coming from the home-plate area in front of the net. That helped them go 9-5-1 in the month of March to scratch and claw their way back into contention.

It's been a bit rockier of late, with a 4-4-2 record in their last 10 games. But the drop-off after the top six teams in the East has been fairly dramatic, opening the door for a flawed team like the Capitals to sneak in.

They'll be underdogs by a wide margin against the 55-23-4 Rangers. Consider that New York has five players who registered 72 points or more, including a 120-point campaign from Hart Trophy candidate Artemi Panarin, while Washington has none.

Here's an even more telling stat: The 40-31-11 Caps ended the regular season with a negative-37 goal differential, which is easily the worst of any team in the East's playoff hunt.

Peter Laviolette's DC return

Rangers coach Peter Laviolette has joked about all the different cities he's coached in − there are six NHL teams in all − but this series will pit his two-most recent places of residency against each other.

The 59-year-old, who ranks seventh all-time with 807 career coaching wins, spent the previous three seasons in D.C. It was one of his least successful stops, with a pair of first-round exits followed by missing the playoffs entirely in 2022-23. He finished with a respectable 115-78-24 record, but expectations were certainly higher than that when he arrived.

Longtime assistant coach Kevin McCarthy, who was with Laviolette throughout his Washington tenure, pointed to their staff arriving during the COVID-19 pandemic as a prohibitive factor that prevented them from creating the "family-type atmosphere and togetherness" that's characterized some of their best teams.

"That never really got a chance to flourish there in Washington because of (COVID), especially the first two years because of all the restrictions we had," McCarthy told lohud.com, part of the USA TODAY Network.

The Lindgren brothers

One of the coolest storylines heading into this series will be the matchup of the Lindgren brothers − Ryan and Charlie.

Ryan is in his sixth season with the Rangers, having established himself years ago as a top-four defenseman who plays with as much grit and heart as anyone. But Charlie, who's four years older, has suddenly burst onto the scene.

The 30-year-old goalie spent parts of six seasons toiling in the AHL before finally playing a full NHL season with Washington last year. He began in a backup role, but earned more ice time as the season wore on and positioned himself for a breakout in 2023-24.

He finished a 25-16-7 record, .911 save percentage and six shutouts, which is tied for the NHL lead. He's also posted a .955 SV% and 1.35 goals against average in three career appearances against the Rangers, including a 4-0 Caps' win on Dec. 9 .

"He’s someone I grew up admiring and it was a pretty special moment together to get to play against him in the NHL," Ryan said after that game, which was the first head-to-head meeting between the brothers at the highest level. "It meant a lot. I know it meant a lot to my parents and my family. It’s something we won't forget. It’s obviously tough that we lost, but it was really special."
