I always thank God that he sent Rahul into my life as my best friend, and I also wish that everyone has a friend like Rahul. Rahul and I met on the first day of school after the summer vacation when we were studying in the 5th standard.

I also remember an incident when our class teacher asked him about his previous school and the place from where he came. He is a good speaker, and he gave an interesting answer to everyone in his introduction in class.

He is good at studies and also a good athlete. He loves running and singing too, and his handwriting is also very neat and clean. I feel happy to become his friend, and he also loves my company, and we spend most of our time together.

My Best Friend Essay 200 Words

I have had a lot of friends since childhood, but Raghav is one of the kindest and most trustworthy friends for me. I must say that Rohan has been my best friend since childhood. He is a very good person and a true friend because he has a good manner that he never lies to anyone, and hates people who lie to him. He is a kind boy and also a sincere student. We both live in the same building, and our apartments are also in front of each other.

My parents also met my friend in the school at the parents-teachers meeting, and they also like Raghav and his sincerity. We both have been in the same class from the 3rd standard until now. We are in the 10th standard now, and we both help each other in the preparation for Board exams, which will be held in the month of March.

He always invites me to his house to play video games with him. Every Sunday, we both enjoy playing video games with popcorn and juice together. Sometimes, our school teachers also wonder about our true friendship and the strong bond between us. He has a set of badminton rackets and a shuttle, and we also play together in the evening near our building. We both love each other’s company.

My Best Friend Essay 300 Words

Everyone has at least a single friend who is more than just a friend to them. Getting a friend is common, but getting a true friend is very rare and a bit special. It is like a big achievement for people to get a trustworthy and lifelong best friend. I also had a best friend in my life too since childhood. His name is Ganaraj, and his mother is Telugu. We are neighbors too and also classmates. We always sit together in school and also spend most of the time together.

He is a very talented person and always supports me in my studies. We both like mathematics, and also we love to solve maths numerical problems. I like to play games, and we both always play games together and participate in the sports that are held in school. Our favorite sport is Cricket, and we both are good all-rounders on our school cricket team. Our class teacher always suggests and supports us to play cricket even better and also helps in education to achieve success in life.

He is very valuable to me, and I always value his friendship as I value my parents. He is like my family, as a brother from another mother. Whenever I need his help and support, my best friend is there for me to hold me. We both live in the precious moment and create memories that will stay with me forever. Our friendship is a kind of beautiful relationship, and I hope any kind will never break these mistakes. Every Sunday, we go together to a playground near our locality, and we spend most of our time there. My parents also like Ganaraj to be my friend. Everyone is happy with our friendship and has a strong bond that never goes down in any situation.

My Best Friend Essay 500 Words

My best friend’s name is Siddhart Jadhav. We have been friends since class 7th A in Alfred Nobel High School. We both studied in the same school in childhood but not in the same class as our sections are different. Later that time, all the students from all the sections are sorted according to the previous academics’ percentages and grades and separated into four different sections. Due to this separation, I met Siddhart in the 7th A, and we became friends at that time. Later, time goes by, and our friendship bond becomes stronger, and we become best friends with each other and spend most of our time together in school, tuition, and extra classes. We also sit on the same bench in the classroom.

Our likes and dislikes are also common, and we also love to dance and sing. In every annual gathering and other function that is held in our school, we both participate and give our best performances. We never wanted to win the competitions, our intention was to enjoy the gathering. Some of our school teachers don’t like our togetherness and friendship, but some of them loved and always blessed our strong bonded friendship to stay longer and longer. Siddharth and I always talked in the running classroom, and most of the time, our teacher also punished both of us by standing outside the classroom. We always tried to irritate the lecturer in the chemistry lectures by asking tons of doubts and questions. We eat tiffin boxes sitting on the last benches.

Apart from this naughtiness, Siddharth is very punctual, and he is never late for coming to school and attending classes. He always completes his homework at a given time and being with him, I also start studying very well and completing my homework on time. He keeps his books and copies very clean. His writing is very nice and encourages me to write cleanly and clearly for better understanding. My parents also compliment my friend that being with him, I also become responsible and a good student.

Siddharth and I are both excellent football players and athletes. When we both start playing the football game, the opponent team never wins. Our sports teacher always motivates us and tells us that we will become good football players one day. My parents also know Siddharth very much, and they like his pleasant behavior. Feel free when Siddharth and I stay together, whether for playing games, video games, study, or for going out to have fun with other classmates. Siddharth is my best friend, my first friend. He is the one who offers me help in my studies when I need it, supports me and always shows love to me, defends me, and stands by my side in any situation no matter what.

In academics, my best friend, Siddharth, is chosen to be awarded the best student of the year in the 10th class. He is one of the brilliant students of our school and also won many of the competitions that were held in school. He is like a well-wisher, and I always enjoyed his company. He, too, feels secure and relieved by spending time with me as well. He is like a problem-solving friend to me. I never wanted to lose him in my life.

Essay on my best friend

Our Friendship

Our friendship started when my best friend came in as a new admission to our class. Both of us were hesitant to talk to each other at first, but gradually we developed a bond. I remember the first time my best friend tried to talk to me; I rolled my eyes because I thought there was no use and we wouldn’t hit it off. However, to my surprise, we became best friends by the end of the session year.

We learned so many things about each other and found out that our taste in music and fashion was so similar. Since then, there was no stopping us. We spent all our time together and our friendship became the talk of the class. We used to help each other out in studies and visited each other’s homes as well. We made sure to have lunch together on Sundays. We also used to watch movies and cartoons together.

On our summer break, we even went to summer camp together and made a lot of memories. Once during the summer holidays, she also accompanied me to my maternal grandparents’ home. We had a fabulous time there. Moreover, we even invented our own handshake which only both of us knew. Through this bond, I learned that family doesn’t end with blood because my best friend was no less than my family. Friendship is one relationship that you choose, unlike all other relationships.

Qualities of My Best Friend

I feel one of the main reasons why I formed such a bond with my best friend was because of the qualities she possesses. Her courage always inspired me to raise my voice against injustice as she always stood up to her bullies. She is also one of the smartest minds in class who doesn’t only excel academically but also in life. I have never seen a dancer as good as my best friend, the accolades she has won are proof of her talent.

Above all, I feel the quality that appeals to me the most is her compassion . Whether it’s towards humans or animals, she always keeps the same approach. For instance, there was an injured stray dog that was wailing in pain, my best friend did not only get him treated but she also adopted him.

Similarly, she saw a poor old woman on the streets one day and she only had money for her lunch. My best friend did not hesitate once before giving all of it to the poor lady. That incident made me respect her even more and inspired me to help the underprivileged more often.

My Best Friend Topic Ideas to Write about & Essay Samples

1. introduction.

My best friend is not just any friend, but the best friend I ever had. Not many people are lucky enough to find a best friend, but I am. Whether best friends are around to defend their friend who is in trouble or to play basketball together, it is more than a blessing to have them in our lives. However, I walked into the world of a best friend when I was in junior high. It was my second year in the United States. I never knew I could make a good friend in my early life, but I was very fortunate for having him. I think our friendship was hard to keep, but we did. We ended up our friendship when I was in high school. I learned how to be a good friend and to show more appreciation to him. Now, looking back, it was one of the biggest lessons that I learned in my entire life. Because he was hard on me, I am pretty sure I could have my life in a good way so far. "Finding a best friend is not an easy task. The best friend is a person who stands by our every emotion. This is not just a friend; this is the one who very understands our written sentences. A friend does not need to be a well-wisher. Someone who learns all about us and manages to tolerate the worst" (www.grammar.com). This is a good definition of a best friend. Well, now we learn another definition of a best friend. Our parents and siblings are the ones who love us most, but it will be great to have one more person who is willing to listen to our sadness and happiness. He will give us comfort no matter how serious our problems are when we are with him. This person will also help us teach us things. I think this is the meaning of another definition of a best friend - it is a kind of person who is willing to help us and stand by in every difficult situation. We could even have good friendships with our neighbors and more, but best friends are the chosen ones in our lives. A best friend is a title held for the few and privileged. The term cannot be thrown around loosely. Not just anyone can be called your best friend. A best friend has to first meet several qualifications and have many outstanding characteristics to have the honor of holding such a prestigious title. He should be someone who makes us the person who we are. He could show the positive side and fix the negative side of our emotions. The writer needs to write the three important things which are the definition of a best friend, he will show the importance of having a best friend, and the writer will give the reason why people need a best friend. That is better than the source that I find on the internet, and I can show it to the writer when I finish my essay.

1.1. Definition of a best friend

Importance of having a best friend 1. Definition of a best friend A best friend is not just a friend. They are a person that you can share your own ideas with, spend most of your time with, and who you can have fun with. They are a person you can be sincere with, a person you can laugh with, and also a person that will support you in times of need. They should be someone who can accept all the different aspects of who you are as a person. A best friend is because you feel more comfortable with that than you do with a regular friend. They are very important for me because the main thing I look for in a friend is trust. The important qualities of a best friend are that they know you and accept you for who you are. A best friend is also the person you can call when you feel like you need to speak to someone and also the most reliable and honest when you feel like you really need help. A best friend should be there for you all the time, no matter what the situation may be. It should be a person who has always been there when you needed for their help. All these will make them best life long friends. Also, if they are the type of person who will lie and destroy and do this and that because they are jealous of you then you should break your relationship and also avoid getting into relationship with the person who is not good for your mental health. I think that it is important to have a clear understanding of the worth of a best friend. A best friend can be closer than family. Actually, best friends are family and they are the only people that I choose to be my family. This special relationship must be respected in a mutual way. When that person feel comfortable with that type of mutual respect then that person really trust and feel good in his or her life. So, I do understand that a best friend can be a true friend and can also bring a lot of happiness in your life. And that's why I feel very lucky to have a best friend all my life. And a best friend is not just anyone can be my friend but one who is really close to my heart.

1.2. Importance of having a best friend

For starters, having a best friend puts us in a state of mind that is conducive for generating happy and healthy emotions. Keeping good friends around us helps us to deal with the stress and pressure that comes with daily living. For example, when a person is feeling too stressed, his or her best friend would help to calm them down, as well as to ease the pain he or she is going through by just lending a listening ear. This will indirectly improve the person's health, by supplementing his or her emotional well-being. Additionally, having a best friend can serve as a role model to us in making choices since they have the experiences of the similar choices they made before. This is important because these experiences will guide us through the process of making decisions. Also, having a best friend can also allow us to experience new activities that we might not even dare to try without a best friend's encouragement. In fact, experiencing difficulties or successes in a journey with a best friend could create more precious and fabulous memories than if we were alone. In this globalization era, we got to know more and more people. Some of these people may adopt the strategy of befriending others just to use them to gain benefits. We must always be on guard and judge the quality of the relationships we form. It is better for us to be selective in searching for a best friend, as it is a lifetime investment for our own well-being.

2. Qualities of a Best Friend

First and most important, a best friend should always demonstrate trustworthiness. In whom else can you confide your deepest, darkest secrets, if not your closest buddy? The mere fact that someone would accept you and your secrets with open arms and without judgment speaks to a very special relationship. This person gives you the opportunity to speak your mind and share your thoughts without the fear of having those ideas tarnished or misused in some way. In truth, a real friend is a friend who is there – not just when the sun is shining in your life, but in the dark, dreary moments as well. When people are asked what's important in their life, it's very common for many people to say that their family and friends are important in their lives. Unfortunately, most people don't really understand the importance of friends in someone's life. In other words, the people in my life are put there for a reason. Some are placed there to continuously teach you a lesson and others are placed there to make lifelong impacts and so, throughout one's life, the importance of friends is great. But at the end of the day, a best friend is there living in the unknown and ready at any moment to go with you on life's adventure, be it big or small. Whether it's picking off where you left off or guiding you in the direction of your newest interest, a best friend is there whenever you call, and they are always near when you need them the most.

2.1. Trustworthiness

First, what is trustworthiness? Trustworthiness is an important quality because a best friend is someone you trust. You will tell them secrets that you will not tell anyone else and you will trust their opinions. A trustworthy best friend is someone you can tell your secrets to and know they won't tell anyone. If you tell your best friend your secrets and they tell other people, they are not trustworthy. Trust is important in every kind of relationship and it is always there - that is a good point of trust. You have to find which people in your life are truly trustworthy. Trust can take years to build, but it can be destroyed in an instant. My best friend and I all the time talk about this and we think we are both pretty trustworthy. My best friend can keep my secrets and he can tell me his secrets. We can trust each other. Also, my best friend will always ask my opinion in big decisions and he really values what I have to say. If he has a secret that is really tearing him up, he will tell me because he trusts me and he knows I will never tell anyone. Trust is very important in a friendship and in order to build that trust you must be willing to listen to your friend. To be trustworthy is another quality I believe a best friend should have. In addition, do not judge your friends. Never simply pass judgment on a friend when you do not know the fight from their point of view. Being untrustworthy can ruin this. Even the most fun and exciting relationship can be boring or hard sometimes, I think trust is a big point for a friendship. A friend should be someone that can comfort you when you are in need and make you laugh for a minute but also think of important things instead of always bringing a mess to you. It is very hard for me to call some of my friends "best friend" because most of them have given me pain. As for my knowledge, Kar is not getting any better. He still has to make a lot of friends and I do not think he can make it yet. I am going to help him learn how to be a good friend and maybe then things will help out. Well, not all people are lucky enough to meet a "best friend" in their lifetime. I think we have to learn from the experiences in our life and treasure the friendships that we have or will have. Well, no matter who is lucky enough or not, I think a best friend should have some qualities. A friend should help us become better people. They should trust in our family and make our family trust them. Well, a friend should be like a book - not everyone can be the book. The best friend should also help each other. I always think that our friends are like a mirror and shadow: the mirror represents honesty, openness, and truth in a relationship, and the shadow represents loyalty and support in the relationship. Well, I don't know which friends are the best friends, but I know who are the trustworthy friends that are always by my side and I have faith in, and I wish them a great life. Lastly, let's see if my friends can meet Kar someday and maybe they will have a great life with the friendship.

2.2. Loyalty

Despite the language barriers, the author and her Hispanic friend made extra effort to understand each other. When friendship had to be solid and warm, they both had to make the greatest effort. They eventually learned to cope with each other's weaknesses, managed to find a balance in the communication and built up the loyalty to another. The author concluded that whether a friend is a robot or a person, the most important thing besides the sincerity is keeping the connection last forever. Robotic friend will never betray you, but they also do not have their own free will to share joy and loyalty when you are prospering; likewise, robotic friends do not simply give up whenever mistake happens. She claimed that such friendship lasted long and remained strong which she cherished very much. The author and her friend gave this friendship a name "Sun-Fu Friendship", which means friendship originated from Pious-Righteousness in Chinese. Through the process of writing, the author tried to justify that her definition of friendship, which includes loyalty, could be perfectly used in human beings and in this case, even robotic would have the same sense of friendship. In fact, she had experienced such theory in her daily life and it worked. All these valuable experiences have tremendously influenced the aspect of friendship defined in her own opinion. She believed that in order to get a deeper understanding about the concept of friendship, people have to experience it with their body and soul. Also, she illustrated how important loyalty was in a friendship, no matter which race, human or robot. She cherished what she had learned from the journey with the robotic friend and it would remain in her mind forever. She learned that both sides should bear the responsibility creating and maintaining the friendships. She learned if friends had faith in each other and value the friendship, they should not take any action to destroy the good and deep relationship. Last but not least, robot or human being, friends should be respectable and willing to learn and share with each other.

2.3. Supportiveness

There are varying degrees of support, but a best friend is there by your side whenever, however you need them. This could be emotional comfort during a hard time, offering advice and help in a time of need, or even just physical company. Robert is always there for me on my birthday, for example, as it was difficult for me when my father passed away and my classmate was killed in a road accident. Robert offers a sense of relief in company, which is very important to me and I greatly appreciate it. A best friend is there when I need them, no matter what for and I like the fact that Robert can sense when I'm feeling down and he adapts his company to suit my needs, knowing when I want to talk or when I don’t. This emotional support can be essential for many reasons, so it is blissful to have someone in Robert on whom I know I can count. On occasions Robert has given up his time to help me when it has been really crucial. After a long row with my dad, it got physical the day I decided to leave home. I telephoned Robert whose parents only live around the corner and his dad collected me. We've had a lot of fun but we’ve also cried together and had our share of scrapes as well. As we have got older that has deepened. I value the support he offers but I also value his straightforward manner; I know he’d tell me if I was just being self-pitying or oversensitive and he wouldn't mind if I did the same. It is a strong feature of our friendship that we can be honest and open with each other. His parents have become like second parents to me and they are always making me feel welcome and like part of the family, offering lifts and pick-ups. Even through the tough time after long school days, my mum can trust that I will have some responsible company in the form of Robert and his family.

2.4. Sense of humor

Of all the qualities that we might seek in a best friend, a sense of humor may be the utmost important. We all know it's not easy to find a friend who makes you laugh, but it's great when such a friend appears. The past without her had been a barren field, featuring many lighthearted and frivolous moments, but little true joy or genuine merriment. However, after becoming friends with Mandy, a girl who has an extroverted personality, many of my weekends and leisure times have been occupied with her delightful jokes and foolish pranks. She had always been the ice breaker in the formal process of making friends with me. To be honest, I'm a kind of introverted person and I feel a little bit difficult and timorous when communicating with strangers. It was that Mandy had removed the invisible barrier between me and the complicated surrounding that we found our interests are in unison. She has never been short of jokes at any time in life, during midnights in the summer clubs, over the splendid meal and even through examinations. She had the sort of sharp wit and repartee that not only made her socially comfortable, but also an intimidating presence in debate. But I had always made friends with people who were in a position of defending the tone that brought themselves from laughter. I still remember the very first joke that she made. We, with a number of local and international artists, were supervising a famous sculpture, which was an assigned task for us in the community service scheme. Mandy looked at me, wearing a sultry and long face, and told me a baseless prophecy that we were to scrutinize the sculpture under most minuscule details and values for a week, without closing our eyes for one moment, when there's a tyrant will come to gain our beautiful joy in destruction. Her jokes are of such high quality, and I laughed so hard that I nearly bent down to applaud her smartness. Such a memory, so unblemished by the tainting passage of time and ever shining in my mind, is however merely the beginning of all those wonderful moments. My best friend now is the one person who is able to elevate my spirits though not merely when I am despondent, but even when I am at my happiest. A single, rib-cracking joke from her is the only thing that I need to turn a ghastly dull day into a beautiful and delightful festival. Just as what she had done in the past. Only through her remarkable catalytic powers, Mandy is the one who finds qualities in me that I had never imagined to have. Her patience, broad-minded attitude has gradually seeped into my soul and relieved the infamous acrimony formed against human vices. I started to learn to appreciate human stupidity, which could provide a manifold of entertainment and even more opportunities to have a good laugh. And most fortuitously, we understand and accept each other on the basis of peaceful coexisting and yearning for a bright future. With the friendship goes deep and strong. And I believe that it is no doubt for both of us to become best friends forever.

2.5. Understanding

That being said, sometimes it feels like my best friend is the only one who gets me. We'll finish each other's sentences, laugh at things that other people don't find funny, and have both an incredibly fast and complex sense of humor that is almost entirely exclusive to us. For me, this is the meaning of understanding. When you can look at someone and know exactly what they're thinking, wanting, or needing, that's when you know you've found a true best friend. That doesn't come from being the same, from reading all the same books or having seen every episode of your favorite TV show. It comes from really and truly knowing someone; knowing their goals and dreams and what they want to get out of life and then, most importantly, knowing exactly how to be there for them if they find it. One of the things we best friends understand is that people go through hard times; loss, change, and tragedy are all parts of life we will experience at one point or another. That doesn't mean that it's ever easy for anyone to deal with these tough experiences though, and this is why understanding is so important. I know that when stuff happens, no matter what, I'll have my best friend to turn to. I hope that if ever she needs me, I can be as much of a help to her as I know she'd be for me. I've heard people say that many animals have a built-in sense of when their owner is feeling down; they can get visibly upset or agitated by a person's distress. When I think about it, that's actually quite similar to how best friends operate. We just seem to have an instinctive radar that tells us when they're needed, and no matter what else is going on, we drop everything and we're there. I believe it's the strength and sensitivity and purely the fact that we know what's needed, and neither of us would hesitate to give each other support or help. For me, understanding is about that support just as much as it is about laughter and companionship. My best friend and I make an absolutely amazing team; we work well together and understand each other's strengths and weaknesses. This doesn't mean we're completely in sync with one another every hour of the day - that really would be quite a scary thought! - but it does mean that we're aware of the other's opinion and knowledge on things. We take it in turns to lead or follow, advise or accept and, in the end, I think it makes both of us better people for having that level of understanding and respect for each other.

3. Experiences with My Best Friend

My best friend, whose name is Andy, and I went to the mountains two years ago. We both were fond of hiking and we went on many trips together. This trip was one of the best among all the others. It was the month of June. The weather was very pleasant and we were feeling very comfortable. We reached the mountain in the afternoon. We decided to stay at the mountain over the night. The scenery of the setting sun was very beautiful. The mountains were looking very charming. We made a tent and arranged the necessary items to cook something. We took some food and started enjoying the beauty of the nature. The air was very fresh and cool. We were feeling like we were in the heavens. It was getting dark rapidly. So, we lighted a fire. We cooked some food. I was very pleased to have a friend like Andy. We both were very happy. We sat together, started gossiping and kept on adding the wood in the fire time after time. The weather was getting colder and colder. We ate the food and went to sleep. It was a dark night. The air was very still. The only noise we were hearing was the noise of the insects that were far away in the jungle. I was in a very slow and sweet sleep. Suddenly a very terrible noise woke me up. I saw that a big bear has entered in our camp. We both woke up in a terrible shock. Andy advised me not to make any sudden noise. He asked me to come along with him. He whispered that we should go to the car very slowly. We both were feeling very fearful. We left everything there and went to the car in a very careful way. When we reached there and locked the doors of the car, we looked at each other. We both laughed a lot. After laughing a little, I thanked Andy. He was still smiling. I thanked him for his company and help. He got serious for a while and then smiled. He said, "My friend! Friends are meant to help each other in the tough and terrible situations of life." He again burst into laughter and continued, "Remember the nights of the Bear story." We came back to home in the morning. This trip really means a lot for me. We often discuss about the mountain trip with great excitement and smile on our faces. So, this was my best trip with my best friend.

3.1. Memorable adventures together

When we think of the term "adventure," many different ideas may come to mind. Some people may think of far-off and exotic locations, while others may think of something a little more simple, like exploring every nook and cranny of a small town. To me, adventure has always meant "unplanned" or "spontaneous." With my best friend, I have had the opportunity to live and experience a very unique type of adventure: learning to embrace the unknown and make the best of it. Just like any adventure-rescue cartoon character, our adventures have revolved around saving the world or, at least, a city from an evil villain. We have scripted out and helped one another film an entire television series, even creating cheesy and not-so-sensible commercials to go along with it. Our adventures are far from clean and organized. For instance, one late evening while I was over at my friend's house, we ventured into her creepy basement to look for some candles. After an hour of screaming at each other to "check behind that suspicious box," it finally dawned on us that the light switch for the basement was at the top of the stairs. None of that actually mattered because we actually found a giant projector and a box of classic movies which we immediately began to try and fix up so that we could have movie nights in her backyard. Every adventure, no matter how big or small, has become a valuable memory to me. I have learned who I really am and who I want to be, no matter what anyone else thinks. All of these lessons have traced back to experiences that I have had with my best friend.

3.2. Challenges overcome together

When we were younger, my best friend and I didn't always get along. Even though we could have fun together, we also found ways to annoy each other. What started as small disagreements sometimes turned into full-fledged fights, with both of us yelling at each other or worse. The root of most of our arguments was that we were both used to getting our own way, and neither of us was good at accepting defeat. However, if I had to argue with my parents and I was feeling upset, there was no one I would rather talk to than my best friend. In fact, one thing that really shows how much my friend means to me is that I'm talking about him in this way now - I'm not actually telling you about a friend I currently have, but a friend that I used to have. We've had the experience of standing by each other through some pretty tough times - with my friend, it's like matters of arguments and betrayals aren't even a question. Gradually, the trust of us about each other has been building up. As the trust has been solidifying, I came to pull back myself a little bit more than ever before. Not only did I make friends with him, but also I have discovered a self I desire since I have known this friend. This person brings out the best in me; he is the greatest friend I could have ever asked for.

3.3. Lessons learned from our friendship

Throughout my life, I have always struggled with social anxiety. It is hard for me to start conversations, and I often overthink what I say. But when I am with my best friend, Jake, it is different. I can talk for hours without feeling self-conscious, and I am always pushed to be bold and confident when I am with him. Jake is the very definition of a "people person." When I feel anxious, he always knows what to say - or if I need silence, he knows that too. As a result, we are never nervous around each other; we are honest and open, and we can be as weird as we want because we accept, understand, and respect each other. Being with Jake has made me learn to live in the moment more, to take every opportunity that presents itself and to make the most of every day. He and I have so many similar interests, but we also have new things that we introduce each other to. This has helped me realize that I can try out new things provided that I have the right support network behind me. Thanks to Jake, I have been introduced to so many new things, from skiing to snowboarding and even trying out things like a new style of food. I can't begin to express how much more enriched my life is because he is a part of it. Every day, I learn something new from him about our world and how amazing it is. But most importantly of all, Jake has been a constant support. When my parents split, Jake's advice and comfort was a pinnacle point for my mental stability during that time. He helped me to see that not all good things last forever, that sometimes bad things need to happen before something better can occur. Jake took me out of the house, distracting me for hours on end playing ridiculous games in the park and just doing the things we love to do together. I cannot imagine having to go through such a period of my life without him by my side; his unwavering guidance and beacon of positivity shone a light on a shadowy time for me. I have learned from Jake's expertise in coping mechanisms and ardently attentive behavior towards others - I am so much of a stronger person today thanks to him.

How To Write a My Best Friend Essay

' data-src=

Definition: What Is a My Best Friend Essay?

Write about what you know is sage advice often given to fledgling writers. And what do many of our young students know more about than their trusty sidekick, who is a constant presence through thick and thin?

A My Best Friend Essay is precisely what it sounds like; an essay the student writes that is focused on their closest pal’s endearing attributes (and otherwise).

However, the My Best Friend Essay is more than just a chance for students to wax lyrical about their BFFs. It is an authentic opportunity for students to hone their composition skills and exercise their creative flair.

All this while talking about one of their best mate – not bad!

STRUCTURING a My Best Friend Essay

This is an essay. It says so right there in the title! Just how complex the structure of a student’s essay is will depend on essential factors such as age and ability. However, the 5-paragraph essay structure is a perfect framework for this type of composition.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the 5-paragraph essay is that it is easily modified to differentiate between lower or higher ability students by simply adjusting the number of paragraphs. The essay will still contain the same essential elements of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion, regardless of how long it is.

The 5-paragraph (or hamburger) essay is a craft in itself and much too broad a topic to go into at length. Check out our complete guide here if you want more detail on this handy essay template.

Briefly though, in essence, the 5-paragraph essay comprises three parts:

  • The Introduction : The opening paragraph will orient the reader to the topic of the essay, in this case, by introducing the show’s star, the best friend .
  • The Body : In the traditional 5-paragraph essay, this makes up three of the five paragraphs. In this type of essay, the student will use these paragraphs to flesh out the main reasons they value their friend, or (at a more advanced level) they will tell a story about them that illustrates why they are the student’s best friend.
  • The Conclusion : In the conclusion, the student can sum up why their friend holds the hallowed title of ‘best’. Or, at a higher level, the student can use the final paragraph of their essay to look forward to the future of their relationship with their best friend.

My Best Friend Essay Story

While we are teaching a short essay on my best friend’, it can also be approached from another angle, i.e., as a nonfiction story.

While the clearcut essay format may be eminently suitable for younger students, you may wish to revisit this genre with older students, this time emphasising storytelling.

In this creative nonfiction approach, students can merge the essay format with storytelling elements such as character, setting, central conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

Constructing their best friend composition in this manner allows students to work on structuring a nonfiction text. Simultaneously, it offers them a chance to develop their creative flair.

My Best Friend in 10 Lines

Another approach particularly well-suited to younger students is the my best friend essay 10 lines format.

This helps younger students get writing by giving them a clear target to aim for, which makes planning easy.

However, you can still introduce the three elements of the 5-paragraph essay here. As students list the points they want to make in their 10 lines, they can be encouraged to group these into introduction, body, and conclusion sections.

For example, a plan might look like this:

A ‘My Best Friend in 10 Lines’ Plan

Introduction

Line 1: My friend’s name.

Line 2: What she looks like.

Line 3: Where she is from/her family.

Line 4: What friendship means to me.

Line 5: How we met.

Line 6: The kindest thing she has ever done.

Line 7: The funniest thing she has ever done.

Line 8: My absolute favorite thing about her.

Line 9: Restate why she is my best friend.

Line 10: How I see our future together.

To complete their 10-line ode to their friend, the student simply builds proper sentences around each of these (or similar) ideas.

More on Planning a My Best Friend Composition

As we can see in the sample plan above, the planning process is relatively straightforward when the 5-paragraph essay structure serves as a framework. However, we may want to take things up a notch for students of a higher ability.

A good, old-fashioned brainstorming session is an excellent starting point for the student. They can list their favorite memories and their friend’s best features.

While younger students may inevitably write something of a hagiography (a biography of a saint!), older students may want to present a more realistic portrait of their ever-present amigo.

Likewise, if the student is undertaking their composition in a narrative nonfiction form, they’ll need to map out the narrative arc of their story at the planning stage.

As with any story, the conflict will serve as the engine of the narrative. However, this conflict does not have to take the form of a problem between the writer and the best friend. After all, this text is more likely to be something of a love letter than a letter of complaint. Instead, the conflict is more likely to take the form of a problem or a challenge faced by the writer and their pal together.

Whether or not the student’s text will take a full-blown story form, true-to-life anecdotes will bring life to the student’s writing. The planning process is the perfect time to dump these onto paper, even if they don’t all make it into the final draft.

How to Start a MY Best Friend Essay

As with most text types, fiction or nonfiction, the writer will want to grab the reader’s attention from the outset. An effective way of doing this is by using a hook.

How to Hook The Reader

The student writer has many methods available to grasp the reader’s attention. While some of these will only be suitable for more advanced students, most can be adapted with a bit of effort for our younger writers.

  • Start in the Middle of the Action

Technically known as, In Medias Res , this technique involves opening the story in the middle of a moment of dramatic tension with the exposition filled in later. This type of wizardry is probably best reserved for the more skilled student writer.

  • Make a Bold Promise at the Outset

The promise of a big payoff can undoubtedly catch a reader’s eye and draw them in, but the student-writer must follow through later in the text. For less experienced students, you may want to offer a writing prompt to help out here. For example,

My best friend Jack is truly one of a kind, but just how special he is wasn’t clear to me until the day a fire broke out in our school.

Students can quickly adapt such prompts by changing the event mentioned to their own circumstances.

  • Create a Sense of Intimacy

Another way to grasp the reader’s interest is to create a sense of intimacy right from the start. This can be achieved by addressing the reader directly in a conversational tone. Students should use informal language and approach writing their text as if they were speaking to a close friend – this is perfect for this writing style.

  • Open with an Anecdote

Another way to create interest (and a sense of intimacy) is to open up with an interesting anecdote about the friend. Students can select an interesting or humorous story to use as a carrot to entice the reader in. The student could substitute an exciting or amusing fact in shorter pieces for a full-blown anecdote.

  • Begin with a Quotation

Quotes are a great way to garner attention. There are many online repositories of inspirational quotes on every topic under the sun where students can find a golden nugget of friendship-based wisdom to open their masterpieces. They must simply type in keywords such as ‘famous’, ‘quotes’, and ‘friendship’ to uncover a smorgasbord of well-articulated wisdom for students to choose from. However, students should ensure the sentiment expressed in their selected quote ties into the type of friendship described in their work.

Working the Body

As we stated earlier in this article, the 5-paragraph essay structure, or the narrative writing arc, lays out a suitable template for the student-writer to work their way through the body of their text. However, it’s worth pointing out five areas where a little attention can significantly impact.

  • Get Specific

The devil’s in the details. The more specific the student is in their writing, the more effectively they will communicate with the reader.

Encourage students to be as precise as possible in their descriptions. A thesaurus is an excellent tool to help students find just the right word for the job.

  • Vary Sentence Length

Often, emergent writers rely on the same couple of simple sentence structures in their writing. This soon makes the writing monotonous for the reader; if they continue to read, it is only with effort that they will finish the student’s work.

Variety is not only the spice of life but also the spice of good writing. Encourage students to vary their sentence structures and alternate between long and short sentences to diversify the rhythm of their writing and evoke interest on the reader’s part.

  • Use Dialogue

Weaving dialogue into a my best friend essay text is a great way to bring colour and variety to a student’s writing. It also allows the student to practice punctuating dialogue – an essential skill!

Students will need to learn to listen carefully if they are to be able to write how people actually speak. Encouraging them to read their dialogue aloud is an effective way to check if it rings true.

  • Incorporate Literary Devices

Though this is undoubtedly a nonfiction text, it has firm roots in creative writing too. Students should incorporate some of the literary techniques and devices that we’d more commonly associate with poetry and fiction writing to add colour, creativity, and imagination to their writing.

For example, for younger students, physical descriptions of their BFF provide the perfect opportunity to introduce similes and hyperbole. Don’t be afraid to get comical here; writing should be fun, after all.

Does their friend have a big nose? How big? As big as an elephant’s trunk, perhaps?

Just make sure students avoid being too mean or poking fun at areas too sensitive for their friends.

It is easy to differentiate different abilities by challenging stronger students to use more complex literary devices in their work. Zoomorphism anyone?

  • Evoke the Five Senses

Emergent writers often display a bias towards only using the sense of sight in their descriptions. To bring their writing up a notch, encourage your students to employ all five senses in their writing.

By evoking the sense of hearing, smell, taste, and touch in their work, students will help their writing to come alive in the reader’s imagination.

WRAPPING THINGS Up

In a regular 5-paragraph essay, the concluding paragraph is usually the time to summarize the main arguments and drive home the thesis statement one more time. Obviously, things are a little bit different in a “my best friend essay.”

Of course, students can take the opportunity to revisit and restate the main reasons why their best friend holds the best-friend-championship belt. Still, there is a more artistic way to use their composition’s final paragraph.

Ask students to think about their friendship and where they see it in five, ten, twenty, or even forty years.

Undoubtedly, for younger students, in particular, this may be a bit of a challenge, but it can be a fun thought experiment too. Students can pose themselves questions to help, such as:

  • Will we be neighbours?
  • Will we work together?
  • Will our children go to school together? Etc.

Taking a tentative step into the possibilities of the future can make for an impactful ending.

Introduction.

‘A man is known by the company he keeps’, Says a proverb. Hence one needs to be very careful in selecting friends. As Shakespeare has pointed out in his play ‘As You Like It’, ‘Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly’. Fair-weather friends are plenty; true and reliable friends are few and far between.

My Best Friend

I have many friends in my school , but most of them are only so-called friends. They are not dependable. Out of them, only Arvind is my true and sincere friend. He is my best friend. I am, indeed, proud of his friendship.

Arvind is the only son of a district court judge. Even then he is very humble and modest. His financial position is sound and enviable. Yet prosperity has not turned him proud and rude. He is not puffed with pride.

His Qualities

Arvind has all the fine qualities of head and heart. He is tall, healthy, and handsome. He is affectionate, kind, sociable, and extremely helpful. He is a good sportsman on the playground and an inviable scholar in the classroom.  All praise, honour, and admiration sit lightly on him. He is not swollen-headed. He is all the more modest and polite because of them.

He is a hard-working boy. He is kind and compassionate. His heart melts at the sight of poverty, sickness and human suffering of any kind. In order to serve the suffering humanity selflessly, he has decided to become a doctor and set up his medical practice in some rural Adivasi area. He often says that the selfless service of the poor is the true service of God.

Our Friendship

I am so proud that I have such an ideal friend like Arvind. Because of his company and rare friendship, my outlook, attitude, and behaviour have been positively influenced. His friendship has given a new, healthy dimension to my life and I, now, look forward to a happy and bright future.

Arvind is indeed, the architect of my life and the moulder of my destiny in the right direction. He is my friend, guide, and philosopher. I envy myself for having such an ideal friend.

Friendship essays have a standard structure of academic papers. They are short and consist of three parts:

  • Introduction about friendship
  • Paragraph about friendship
  • Friendship essay conclusion

In the intro, you start with an attention grabber. Feel free to use a quote, a surprising fact, or an anecdote. Introduce the topic and finish with thesis statements about friendship.

In a friendship paragraph, you support a thesis with facts, evidence, personal stories, etc. As a rule, essay bodies have three paragraphs minimum. So you can devote each paragraph to one aspect :

  • Definition of this concept
  • Why having friends is essential
  • What a friend can give you
  • Types of friendship
  • Challenges mates meet on their way
  • Characteristics of a good friend
  • How to strengthen a friendship, etc.

In the essay body, you can use stories and examples from your life to illustrate points. Tell about your friends and share personal thoughts — it will make your paper more compelling to read.

In the concluding paragraph, sum up the points and restate your thesis. Finish on a positive note, leaving readers with the food for thought.

  • 💬 10 Witty Quotes

1. đŸ–Šïž Friendship Essay: Writing Guide

If you’ve been given to write an essay about friendship, then you have accepted one of the best tasks. It can be challenging as it requires recollecting the memories associated with the friend. Also, it requires following a particular guideline.

  • Choose a topic

To start writing an essay on friendship, you need to choose a good topic. There are several things you need to keep in mind:

  • When writing an essay about friendship, make sure the topic you choose corresponds to the type of the paper (e.g., opinion or narrative essay );
  • The topic you choose needs to be enough to develop it in the essay. If your idea is too broad, you will not describe it sufficiently. If it’s too narrow, you will not have enough information to write about.
  • Find evidence

Research your topic. Use the available sources for searching for information, such as books, dictionaries, and internet sources. Find enough data to support your argument. Also, think about life experiences that can be used under this topic. An essay on friendship usually requires using personal examples as evidence.

  • Outline your essay

Think about the information you will include in different parts of the essay. Usually, such papers consist of an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.

Just in 1 hour! We will write you a plagiarism-free paper in hardly more than 1 hour

Introduction : A paragraph that includes any necessary background information and a thesis statement .

Body Paragraphs : Generally, essays include three separate body paragraphs. They present arguments and additional support individually.

Conclusion : The last paragraph that summarizes major points and restates the thesis statement.

  • Write and proofread

As you have your topic and outline ready, start writing your friendship essay. When you finish, carefully proofread. Double-check your spelling, the accuracy of the information, and grammar. Make sure to format your essay according to the guidelines.

Ask someone to help you revise the text: a person might notice mistakes you didn’t see. Another great way to revise your paper is by checking friendship essay examples to get inspired and see what you can improve in your writing.

Receive a plagiarism-free paper tailored to your instructions. Cut 20% off your first order!

2. ⛔ Essay on Friendship: 5 No-Nos

Writing an essay about friendship can seem less challenging than composing a paper on some uncommon topic. Yet, there are still mistakes that a student can make.

Check the following five taboos that you should avoid:

  • Avoid complaining. Some students use this task as their chance to complain about someone having betrayed them. Bad things happen. Move on and find better ideas to include in your friendship essay.
  • Avoid flattering. Another extreme to be avoided is singing the praises to someone. Even if you badly want to include something like ‘I was blessed to meet Tom who was my best friend ever,’ try to refrain from writing just that and add more exciting details instead to create some context and let your readers know exactly why and how was Tom such a great friend to you.
  • Don’t add too much drama. Focusing on how you can’t imagine your life without your friends from school you left is a bad idea.
  • Don’t be too negative. Sure, you are free to defend any position in this paper. Yet, teachers would like it better if your essay is optimistic (and you might be happier writing it too).
  • Don’t forget to include examples. Examples from your personal life and books will make your paper more sincere and persuasive.

3. 💡 50 Essay Topics on Friendship

Any excellent essay starts with an idea that you can explore in detail. We’ve prepared 50 writing prompts and topics to help you pick the perfect theme for your paper:

15 Prompts for Talking and Writing About Friendship

Questions to help students reflect on the meaning of friendship in their lives

best friend topic essay

By Natalie Proulx

Who are your closest friends? How much do you share with them? Do you actually like your friends? What have you learned from them?

Below, we’ve rounded up 15 questions we’ve asked students over the years all about friendship. You can use them as prompts for writing or discussion, inside the classroom or out. We hope they’ll inspire you to reflect on your friendships, consider how you can strengthen the ones you have, and motivate you to reach out and make new ones.

Each prompt includes an excerpt from a related New York Times article, essay or photo; a link to the related piece; and several questions to help you think deeply about it. Many of these questions are still open for comment from students 13 or older.

You can find even more ideas for teaching and learning about friendship in our related lesson plan: How Students Can Cultivate Meaningful Friendships Using The New York Times .

1. Who Are Your Friends?

Do you have a “best friend,” a few close friends or a large group of friends? What interests, experiences, passions and circumstances forge those relationships? What are some of your favorite memories or admirable characteristics you associate with your friends?

Use this Picture Prompt to talk or write about your most important friendships.

2. How Alike Are You and Your Friends?

Did you know there is science behind how we choose our friends? Research has shown that we tend to befriend people who are much like us in a wide array of characteristics, including age, race, religion, even our handgrip strength.

In this prompt , you’ll read more about the things that bond us, and then share what you and your friends have in common.

3. Do You Have Any Unlikely Friendships?

Though we tend to connect with people who are like us, sometimes friendship happens with someone we’d least expect. That was the case for Spencer Sleyon, a 22-year-old rapper and producer from East Harlem, and Rosalind Guttman, an 81-year-old woman living in a retirement community in Florida, who met playing the Words With Friends game.

Do you have any surprising friendships like this one?

4. How Much Do You Share With Your Friends?

Do you often express your innermost thoughts, feelings and struggles to those closest to you? Or do you tend to keep those things to yourself? Being vulnerable can be scary, but research shows it’s important for building connections with others.

Use this prompt to reflect on what it feels like to open up to your friends, and how you might try to do more of it.

5. Do You Have Satisfying Friendships?

Are internet friendships as fulfilling as in-person ones? In a guest essay, a writer argues that “The kind of presence required for deep friendship does not seem cultivated in many online interactions. Presence in friendship requires ‘being with’ and ‘doing for.’”

Do you agree? Can online “friends” be true friends? Share your opinion.

6. Do You Have Any Close Friends?

Do you prefer to have many casual friends or just a few close ones? What makes a person a “best” friend? Do you wish you had more close friendships? This prompt explores these questions and more, as well as shares expert advice for developing deeper friendships.

7. How Do You React When Your Friendships Change?

Have you ever become less close to a friend over time? Have you ever felt jealousy when your friend joined another friend group? Have you ever had a friendship just fizzle out? These kinds of changes happen all the time, but they can be difficult to navigate.

Tell us what you do when you feel a friendship start to shift.

8. Do Social Media and Smartphones Make Your Friendships Stronger?

best friend topic essay

Does being able to stay constantly in touch with your friends via social media, texting and location sharing strengthen your friendships and make them easier to maintain? Or does it do the opposite? Weigh in with your experiences on this prompt .

9. Do You Like Your Friends?

It may sound like a strange question, but a 2016 study found that only about half of perceived friendships are mutual. That means you might not even like someone who thinks of you as a best friend. And vice versa.

Is this is true for any of your relationships?

10. How Often Do You Text Your Friends Just to Say ‘Hi’?

When was the last time you texted, called, emailed or messaged a friend just to say “hello”? Research suggests casual check-ins might mean more than we realize. Do you underestimate how much your friends would like hearing from you?

Read what experts have to say and then share your thoughts.

11. Is It Harder for Men and Boys to Make and Keep Friends?

American men appear to be stuck in a “friendship recession,” according to a recent survey. Less than half of men said they were truly satisfied with the number of friendships they had. The same study also found that men are less likely than women to seek emotional support from or share personal feelings with their friends.

Does this reflect your experience? Weigh in.

12. Do You Have Any Intergenerational Friendships?

“When applying to my job, I had no idea of the friendships I would be making with 70+ year old women. They teach me new things every day while I hear their life stories and things they have done,” Laura from Ellisville wrote in response to this prompt.

Do you have any friends who are significantly younger or older than you? What do you think we can gain from these kinds of intergenerational friendships? Tell us here.

13. Have You Ever Been Left Out?

Imagine it’s a Saturday. All your friends told you they were busy, so you’re sitting at home, alone, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. But then you see a post that stops you in your tracks. It’s a picture of all of your friends hanging out together — without you. This is what happened to Hallie Reed in her first semester at college.

Has something like this ever happened to you? Use this prompt to talk or write about how it felt.

14. What Have Your Friends Taught You About Life?

“My friends taught me different perspectives on life.” “My friends have taught me to not care what other people think.” “My friends have taught me to be myself.”

These are just a few of the responses teenagers had to this prompt. What have your friends taught you?

15. Have You Ever Had a Significant Friendship End?

Few relationships are meant to last forever. In a guest essay, Lauren Mechling writes that “even bonds founded on that rare, deeply felt psychic connection between two people” are “bound to fray.”

Have you experienced this with someone with whom you were once very close? What happened? Share your story.

Students 13 and older in the United States and Britain, and 16 and older elsewhere, are invited to comment. All comments are moderated by the Learning Network staff, but please keep in mind that once your comment is accepted, it will be made public and may appear in print.
