How to Write an Essay on How You Spent Your Summer Vacation

Last Updated: January 4, 2020

Writing an essay on how you spent your summer vacation is a classic way of starting a new school year. Think about this essay as an opportunity to tell a story about your summer while reflecting on the experiences you had. Choose a memorable moment you had this summer and start crafting your essay, giving as many details as possible.

Choosing a Topic

Step 1 Look back on mementos you kept from the summer.

  • These can also make nice visual aids if you are asked to present your essay.

Step 2 Make a list of the things you’ve done over summer vacation.

  • A list might be full of things like babysitting, attending a camp, working at a local store, taking a road trip, etc. This type of brainstorming can help you pick major events and other important moments from your summer.

Step 3 Write about a memorable moment.

  • For example, maybe you spent your summer traveling around Japan. Think of a memorable moment you had while traveling — maybe you walked up a mountain in the pouring rain — and write about this moment, adding lots of details.

Step 4 Create an outline...

  • For example, if you're writing about spending time at the beach, your outline could remind you to talk about the sandcastle building contest you entered, the dolphins you saw, and the ice cream you ate every day.
  • Details might be what the other sandcastles looked like, how far away the dolphins were, and what kind of toppings were on your ice cream.
  • Your outline is just to help you organize your thoughts — it can be written by hand or typed.

Crafting the Essay

Step 1 Focus on your feelings, interactions, and thoughts.

  • Instead of saying that you worked in a pet store, ate a PB&J sandwich, and walked home every day, talk about more than just your actions. You could talk about which pets are your favorites to work with, how it felt to eat the same sandwich every day, or what you thought about on your walk home.

Step 2 Use your 5 senses to explain your experiences.

  • Using sensory details like these will help your readers visualize and engage with your writing. These help your audience make your experiences feel real to them, even though they weren't there.

Step 3 Describe activities you did in each place you went.

  • For example, instead of saying “I went to the beach this summer,” try saying “I spent my summer swimming in the frigid water at Virginia Beach.” The more details you can provide, the more engaged your reader will be.

Step 4 Choose precise, descriptive adjectives.

  • Instead of saying “the burger was really good,” you could say, “the burger was juicy and filling.”

Step 5 Revise and edit your essay carefully.

  • Don't just rely on spellcheck. It will help catch some errors, but it will miss some things, too.
  • Ask a parent or other adult to read over your essay too, if you'd like.
  • Setting your essay aside for a little while will give you a fresher perspective when you go back to revise it.

Structuring Your Essay

Step 1 Start with a strong introduction.

  • Make sure your conclusion doesn’t just copy the introduction.

If you need to write an essay on how you spent your summer vacation, there are simple ways to take your writing to the next level. Choose a moment that stands out to you, like playing at the park with your friends or watching a movie you enjoyed. Think about all the feelings and thoughts you had, and use them to write sensory descriptions that will take the reader on the journey with you. Use your introduction to set the scene and draw your reader in. Then, use each paragraph to explore different aspects of your favorite moment. Are you required to write an essay about your summer vacation or your holiday break? This can be a tough assignment to tackle at first glance. But if you think about it, there are lots of interesting things that happen on your vacation that others might enjoy reading about. The key to success is to zero in on the experiences, people, or situations that made your vacation unique.

Summer vacation can be busy or lazy, funny or serious. You may have traveled with your family, worked every day, fallen in love, or coped with a difficult situation. To start your essay, you'll need to choose a topic and tone.

Family Vacation Essay Topic Ideas

If you traveled with your family, you may have some great stories to tell. After all, every family is crazy in its own way. Want some proof? How many Hollywood films have themes about family holidays or trips? Those films are popular because they enable us to glimpse inside the crazy family lives of others. Alternatively, you may have a more serious story to tell.

Consider these funny topics:

  • Why I'll Never Go Back to (insert place name)
  • How (insert name) Drove Me Crazy in Five Days
  • Traveling to (insert city) Then and Now
  • The Hazards of Traveling With a (person or thing)
  • Why You Shouldn't Take a Dog to (insert place)
  • I Left (insert city) But My (lost item) Stayed
  • Why I Couldn't Sleep in (place name)

If your family vacation involved something more serious, think about one of these topics:

  • The Love I Left Behind in (insert place)
  • Saying Good-Bye to (insert person or place)
  • Exploring (place's) Secrets
  • An Emotional Trip

Summer Job Essay Topic Ideas

Not everyone gets to spend the summer having fun; some of us have to work for a living. If you spent your summer at a job, chances are you met a lot of interesting characters, dealt with complicated situations, or even saved the day once or twice. Here are some ideas for summer job topics:

  • The Boss's Day Off
  • The Customer From Hell
  • What I Learned from My Customers
  • Why I'll Never Go Into the ___ Business
  • Six Things I Learned on the Job

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

  • The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
  • The rising action (the beginning of your story)
  • The climax (the most exciting moment in your story)
  • The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

1. Try to make your writing interesting for the reader. To do this, you can make it personal with your own memories and experiences.

2. Use adjectives to add detail to your descriptions.

3. Write clear and simple sentences and organise your ideas in short paragraphs. Give each paragraph a different topic.

4. Use so, but, and, because and other linking words.

Where was your last holiday?

I want you to know that I am very happy and enjoying my vacation quite a bit. The destination on this vacation has been the Colombian Caribbean coast, We arrived two days ago, this is a very nice experience. Yesterday I discovered the window to the world that is located in Barranquilla, as well as the boardwalk, they are very warm places but above all very visited, as the afternoon fell I went to visit some of my husband's brothers. Tomorrow we will get up very early to travel a few kilometers and be able to visit Cabo de la Vela, in La Guajira, we will leave at 6 am, because we must be in Uribia Guajira at 3 pm, there the tour guide will be waiting for us, who will be the one in charge of directing this adventure. I also had the opportunity to visit Cartagena de Indias and its beautiful beaches, I really liked getting to know the beach, the sea and the people who live there, But what I liked most was being able to visit Cabo de la Vela and learn a little about the reality of the Wayuu culture, being able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and sunsets that this beautiful place offers.

My last was holiday three-week trip to Fez in Morocco. Fez it’s my hometown so I know it well because I lived there for 26 years. I went to visit my family there and I stayed at home, every day I was invited by my sisters and brothers, they made me delicious dishes and we had a good time together. I’ve been seeing my friends every day in the café, we’ve been seeing football matches and we’ve been talking about different topics. In this holiday I made many things important for me, I had driving courses to be confident when I’m going to buy a car, in the same time I had English courses.

My last holiday was a three-day trip to Thua Thien Hue in Vietnam. I always want to go there, so in the summer of last year, I decided to take a trip to Hue with my family.

We booked a small hostel near Hue Walking Road. We stayed in a twin room, which was clean and had full amenities. The owner was very friendly; he showed us good restaurants, attractions, and how to deal with sellers in the market. We tried local foods such as Bun Bo Hue, Banh Xeo, Banh Bot Loc, etc. The food in Hue is cheap and amazing; I thought that I could eat it all day!

We did some touristy things too. We visited Hue Capital and had a chance to learn more about Vietnam's history. The architecture is very majestic and beautiful. We also went to Thien Mu Pagoda. It is one of the most sacred temples in Vietnam, so we prayed for health and happiness and wished everyone good luck. In the evening, we walked across the historic Trang Tien Bridge. It was so beautiful at night; there were a lot of people walking there.

It was three amazing days. I felt so relaxed and hope to visit more places in Vietnam.

My last holiday was a two-day trip to Baguio in the Philippines. I had lived there before for five months. So I decided to go back for just a visit on my holiday. Unfortunately, there was heavily raining as we got off the bus. Otherwise, getting a taxi was super hard, and we were waiting for around an hour. Fortunately, I got home safely and I made so much fun with my friends. I visited the old places that I often did because it made me happy and refresh. In conclusion, I had so much fun spending my last holiday in Baguio.

I remember last year when I went with friend to the beach in summer. My Lastsummer holidays was 2days and 3 nights trip to Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanamr . Ngwe Saung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5hours drive with no traffic away from the principal city of Yangon. Ngwe Saung is well know for An unspoilt 15 kilometres stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Saung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. I booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach, name was "Grand Paradise Hotel ". My friend and i prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. And also we prepared necessary clothing for the sea, sun cream and some essential medicines. After 5hours of driving we arrived the hotel at 12PM afternoon and went to our rooms to rest change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach. This Hotel is near the beach, all services was good and room are cleaned, wide and nice. We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my friend ordered from a fish restaurant . The Crab ,Lobster and fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much. After lunch we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths ,listening to music and playing fun games. OH really nice Ngwe Saung beach Myanamr.

My last holiday was far away in time in different reasons. We were at black sea coast on September so there where not so much other people. We was drinking a wine that was cheap there and going some excursions

My last holiday. Last summer, in particular on the last weekend of June, I decided to visit Granada, an amazing city in Spain. I visited Granada for the second time with my family, my wife, and two daughters. I was so happy because I visited Granada sights, especially Alhambra Palace, and Civilization Museum. We arrived at the hotel by bus at 11 a.m. The hotel was wonderful and clean, and the food they offer was delicious. My family really liked the traditional typical dishes of Granada, in particular the dish named Baella. During the holiday, I met some of my Spanish colleagues and they invited us to visit their house which is located in a nice village in the city suburb. Really, I liked this place for the large landscape, calmness, and the kind people who live in. On the fifth day of our holiday, we walked around the city and saw the old city which has been built above the mountain. So, you can see the whole city from above it. Despite the enjoyment that we have got, the negative thing about that holiday was that we spent so much money and also many friends need to buy some things from there, so I bought some souvenirs and I hope that I can keep one for myself to remind of that divine place. By and large, this holiday was great and unforgettable thanks to my Spanish friend, Gaspar, who provided me with a Guidebook which makes my trip easy and coy.

My last holiday was four days on São Miguel dos Milagres with my family. We stay on the beach house of my grandpa. There is a pool, and four rooms in that. There we go to the beach, to some interesting restaurants, to a beach clube and to an ice cream shop. I love that travel and i'd love go back to São Miguel dos Milagres.

On the first weekend in March, we took an amazing trip to Barcelona. We went by train from Atocha station and the journey lasted two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the historic Barcelona Sants station, we took the metro to Plaza de Tetuan, which is where we had the apartment. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc. On Sunday, we saw the beautiful Sagrada Familia which is my favourite landmark. Later, we went to the incredible Nou Camp stadium to see the Barça game against Valencia. After the game we visited the official store and did some shopping but everything was very expensive. On Monday, before returning to Madrid we went back to the Nou Camp to take a guided tour of the trophy room, changing rooms, benches, and the VIP box.

At the end, we went to the apartment to take the suitcases and so, we took the metro to the Sants station where we boarded the high speed train back to Madrid.

I go to Thailand for a camping holiday, It was fun I go caving on the first day, I see many bets are sleeping on top of the cave.(no time to finish)

How I Spent My Summer Vacation: 500 Words Essay

Spent My Summer Vacation

Who does not love summer vacations? All students look forward to this time of the year. We have different plans to spend this time of the year through different activities. While some of us love to go on tours, some would love to spend time at home. But, no matter how you spend your summer vacation, it helps create memories we treasure.

Importance Of Summer Vacation

Summer vacations are the most awaited time of the year. It is the time when students finally get to spend some time away from the monotony of school and regular classes. Education and schooling are essential indeed. However, we all need a break so that the healthy process of learning and developing ourselves does not feel tiring. Summer vacation is the best opportunity for a rejuvenating experience. So, here is how I spent my summer vacation –

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

This summer vacation, I spent my time in the city with my aunt. Being a village student, I never had the opportunity to explore the cities until this summer vacation. This summer vacation, I spent time with my aunt, who lives in Kolkata. My Aunt is a doctor in Kolkata. This summer vacation, I came to live with her for a few days.

Since my aunt had to work the night shift, she could spend the day with me. During the, we would take the public bus and take a tour of the City of Joy, Kolkata. She used to take me to some of the historical places and local attractions.

Kolkata is known for its vivacity, culture, and colors. Located in the eastern part of India, it is the center of many historical events and home to diverse cultures. This summer vacation, I spent time visiting some of the most prestigious places in Kolkata.

Places I Visited

I went to Victoria Memorial, a famous landmark in Kolkata housing some of the most famous sculptures, and paintings, artifacts from the colonial era in India. I also saw the magnificent Howrah Bridge over the Hooghly river in Kolkata. This is one of the busiest bridges in the world and stores the unique engineering marvel of the city of joy.

Memory I Made

What I loved the most during this trip was going to M. P. Birla Planetarium . It is one of the finest astrological observatories, and I cannot stop thinking about all the collections of their astronomy gallery. I also enjoyed my trip to the Alipur zoo with my aunt.

This is where I saw the tiger, the lion, and the python. We also tasted different street foods with my aunt during our trips. She used to treat me to the best street foods available in Kolkata. Sometimes we were late to return home, and my aunt had to go to work during the evening. However, I loved the experience of traveling around the city with my aunt. It was a thrilling experience for me.

Once the summer vacation was over, I had to return home and go back to school again. Although I returned, my mind was filled with the memories of the busy city streets, historical places, and vibrant city life. This summer vacation was full of great experiences I will never forget.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation: 400-450 Word Essay

It is true that for a student, summer vacations are one of the most anticipated times of the year. I used to look forward to summer vacations too till last year. But now that I am in my final year of school, the realization slowly started sinking in that summer vacations won’t be a carefree time for me as this year I have to spend the vacation preparing for my school final examinations. Because of this, I was not really looking forward to summer vacation this year. Almost all of my friends were also feeling the same way as the vacations were drawing near.

The Surprise

So you can well understand the happiness I felt when my parents announced that they had planned a trip for me to go on during summer vacation. But Little did I know that more surprises awaited me. My parents along with my friends’ parents have decided that since this is our final summer vacation in school, they will allow us to go on a trip together alone with no parental supervision. We will all be going to Shimla and staying at the house of one of my friend’s relatives.

Imagine the happiness and excitement that my friends and I felt upon hearing this news. Since all our parents decided to break the news on the same evening, we all got to know around the same time. Since we will be leaving in three days, the next few days were spent simultaneously packing and planning with our friends on the phone. On the day, a car driven by a friend’s older brother picked all of us up from our homes. It took us around 9 hours to reach Shimla.

What we did in Shimla

We were tired and fell asleep. But the next day, we rose early to explore Shimla. We went on a short trek to visit Jakhu Temple and enjoyed the panoramic view from the hilltop. The next day, we went on a day trip to Kufri, a hill station near Shimla where we tried various adventurous activities like skiing and horse riding. The adrenaline rush I felt was simply amazing. We also visited several historical landmarks, strolled down the Mall road, visited local markets and apple farms, rode the toy train, and took a walk in the pine forests.

We were in Shimla for 15 days and I think we tried out all the activities for tourists and visited almost every part of Shimla. All the time we were in Shimla, we were in awe of the beautiful natural scenery surrounding us. Needless to say, I immensely enjoyed my very first trip with friends. I will forever cherish the memories I made on this trip.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation: 200 Words Essay

Summer vacations are my most awaited time of the year. Every year, My school arranges small trips to different places with students of different classes. This year, they did not have any plan like that. So, I, and other students of my school, had to spend the vacation at home.

During this summer vacation, I spent lots of time on my hobbies and favorite activities. I love drawing, so this summer vacation, I picked up on it and spent most of the time of my days drawing. I also love to read science fiction, so I indulged in this hobby as well.

But, when I was not spending my time in these activities, I was playing Chess with my father. Once we had lunch, we used to watch movies together. In the afternoon, I used to go out with my friends from the village . Sometimes we played cricket, and sometimes we only strolled around the riverside.

The summer vacation was fun, relaxing, and full of fond memories for me. The different experience I had this year makes me look forward to the summer vacation in the coming years.

How to Write a Summer Vacation Essay

Summer break is a great time to kick back, relax and enjoy yourself and, if you’re lucky, to go on an awesome trip! But how can you translate your amazing vacation into a narrative essay for English class or work it to fit a common application prompt? Here’s some tips to help you out:

Save Mementos From Your Summer

Even if you’re not the sentimental type, make sure to document your summer travels. Take pictures, write diary entries, save train stubs. This is the best way to ensure that you’ll remember your summer well enough to look back and write about it later.

Write an Outline Before Writing Your Essay

Regardless of whether you spent your summer break in Madison, Wisconsin or Madrid, Spain, you should plan out what you’re going to write before diving in. Make a list of what you’ve done over the summer so that you can later narrow down a focus for the essay itself. Keep in mind that the best essay topics aren’t always on the most exciting activities an essay about getting stuck in traffic on the way to the airport on the way to Denver could work better than an essay on hiking the Grand Canyon and looking out at the incredible view.

Be Specific

Since you’re going to keep a record of your trip and come up with an outline before writing your essay, you should be able to put some detail into your essay. Be as specific as possible when it comes to your word choice. If you’re talking about some gelato that you ate in Italy, don’t say that it was “delicious.” Instead, say that it was “creamy and chocolatey, with a note of vanilla.”

Focus on Feelings About Your Trip, Not What You Did

If you spent the summer on the beach in Cape Cod, you shouldn’t write about what you did. You should write instead about how you felt while there. An essay that reads “I went to beach, then had lobster for dinner” is not quite as exciting as one that goes, “As I went for a walk on the beach, I thought about how lucky I was to be able to enjoy nature.” Feelings translate better into text than events, and you should try to place those feelings into context.

Stick to Writing About a Small Moment

With any essay you write especially a short one it’s important to focus a narrow moment in time. Don’t write about your entire week in Paris. Instead, write about the moment you got lost in the city at midnight and fumbled your way home in the dark. You don’t have to pick a particularly glamorous moment from your trip, but you should pick one that meant something to you.

Edit Your Essay Carefully

The shorter the essay, the more important precision is. Regardless of length, make sure to carefully read over what you’ve written to make sure every sentence conveys the message you most want displayed. The editing process matters just as much as the writing process, even if it seems less so.

Essay on My Dream Vacation

My Dream Vacation

My dream vacation is a magical adventure filled with excitement, fun, and unforgettable memories.

My dream vacation destination is a tropical island paradise. Crystal-clear turquoise waters, soft sandy beaches, and palm trees swaying gently in the warm breeze. I can already feel the sun kissing my skin as I run barefoot along the shore, collecting seashells and building sandcastles.

One of the best parts of my dream vacation is staying in a cozy beachfront bungalow. It’s painted in vibrant colors and adorned with seashell decorations. From my window, I can see the breathtaking sunrise every morning, painting the sky in shades of pink, orange, and gold. And at night, I fall asleep to the soothing sound of waves crashing against the shore.

I would love to go snorkeling in the coral reefs, where I can swim alongside colorful fish and discover hidden underwater treasures. Imagine exploring a magical world beneath the sea, where every corner holds a new wonder to behold!

I would go on a thrilling adventure through the lush tropical jungle. I would zip-line through the canopy, feeling the wind rush past my face as I soar through the trees. Along the way, I might encounter playful monkeys swinging from branch to branch and exotic birds singing their sweet melodies.

Of course, no vacation would be complete without indulging in delicious food. I would feast on fresh tropical fruits like juicy mangoes, sweet pineapples, and creamy coconut. And for dinner, I would savor mouthwatering seafood dishes prepared with local ingredients and bursting with flavor.

But perhaps the most unforgettable part of my dream vacation is the opportunity to immerse myself in the local culture. I would learn traditional dances, listen to captivating stories from the elders, and make friends with the warm and welcoming people of the island. I believe that experiencing different cultures enriches our lives and broadens our perspectives.

As the sun sets on my dream vacation, I feel a sense of gratitude and contentment wash over me. It’s been an incredible journey filled with laughter, adventure, and new discoveries. And as I drift off to sleep, I know that these memories will stay with me forever, inspiring me to dream big and explore the world around me.

My dream vacation is a magical escape to a tropical island paradise, where I can immerse myself in adventure, relaxation, and cultural exploration. It’s a journey of a lifetime that I can’t wait to embark on someday soon. Until then, I’ll keep dreaming and imagining all the wonders that await me on my dream vacation.

Essay on Winter Vacation in 150 Words

‘My winter vacation started right after Christmas, which was a two-week long vacation. Winter Vacation is my favourite time of the year, as we go New Year shopping, plan a trip to a hill station, and enjoy feasts like homemade cakes, cookies, pastries sweets, etc. On this winter vacation, I went to the city market to buy winter clothes with my parents. My father bought a denim jeans and a dungarees jacket for me, as were planning a trip to Mussoorie, the famous hill station.

Before me and my family left for our winter vacation trip, I completed all my winter homework and school assignments, so that I don’t have to worry about them after returning from our vacation. I took my brother’s help with mathematics homework and completed the remaining homework myself.

After that, we went on a 4-day family trip to Mussoorie, where we had quality time and played a lot. We were lucky enough to witness snowfall and my brother made a large snowman and snowballs and played for hours. Later, we went back to the hotel, where we had our tasty lunch and a bonfire. This was my this year’s winter vacation, which was full of excitement and surprises.’

Essay on Winter Vacation in 300 Words

‘Winter and summer vacations are my favourite time of the year, as we are free from academic pressure and don’t have to worry about school for the next couple of weeks. This year, my winter vacation started with an exciting activity, as I attended a wedding with my family in a different city. It was a short un-planned family trip where we had a lot of fun. Me and sister were excited to dine out at a highway restaurant, which was one of the memorable moments of my winter vacation. On our way to the wedding, I and my sister requested our father to stop at a highway restaurant, as were hungry.

Me and my sister ate a pizza and ice cream. After finishing our food, we were back on our way to the wedding. We greeted all our relatives and some of them gave us gifts. After returning from the wedding, I and my sister wanted to work on extracurricular activities, so our father enrolled us in dance classes. For the next 10 days, we were continuously working on our dancing skills, which was physically exhausting but interesting. As soon as we hit the dance floor, all we could do was wave our hands in the air and vibe with the music.

Another fun activity I did during this winter vacation was helping my mother with household chores. Our family has a custom of making Gajar ka Halwa every winter. I wanted to learn from my mother how it is prepared and the ingredients she uses to make it. Gajar ka halwa is one of my favourite sweets. Eating Gajar ka Halwa on a chilled January morning is one of my loving memories. I wish I could enjoy I little more of those family moments, where there is no school pressure, just fun and love. Now, I will plan for next year’s winter vacations, where me and my family can have a great time together.’

A student’s life revolves around exam preparation, tests, and homework. So, this means that more often than not it revolves around studies only. They go to school than to coaching centers and then to home. Thus, there is hardly any time left for students to do other activities especially when he/she is studying in higher classes. So, when Sunday’s come, it is feeling of respite but more often than not there are some tests planned for Monday. So, a student starts developing a feeling of being trapped inside the burden of studies. So, essay on vacation is an insight into a student’s mind during the holiday season.

Essay on Vacation

Holidays are the time during which a student can finally take a break. Because usually, students have a hectic work routine. Thus, they cannot follow their interests or hobbies they want. So, they can get the time to follow their interests and hobbies during the holidays. Suppose a student loves art and craft and so decides to join the different art and craft classes. Some might join different classes based on their needs and interests. Like some will join dance class, others might join instrument class, while others might join sports like swimming, skating, etc.

Also, holidays are the time when students can socialize with their friends and relatives. Also, if someone loves to spend their time with the family that they can plan a trip during the vacations. Additionally, some students might go to their friend’s place to spend the day once in a while.

Most importantly, holidays are the time when one can relax and understand as to how he/she improve their skills. This can be helpful during exam along with the other activities. Thus, make sure to give 2-3 hours every day to do your study related work during the vacations.

Essay on My Dream Vacation

Students are often asked to write an essay on My Dream Vacation in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on My Dream Vacation

My perfect holiday.

Imagine a place with clear blue skies and warm sunshine. That’s where my dream vacation begins. It’s on a peaceful beach with soft, golden sand. I can hear the waves gently crashing and feel the breeze on my face.

Fun Activities

Every day, I would build sandcastles, swim in the sea, and collect colorful shells. I would also try to learn surfing. It sounds like so much fun to ride the waves!

Delicious Food

I would eat fresh fruits and yummy ice cream. There would be picnics with sandwiches and juices too. Tasting new dishes would be a great adventure.

Relaxing Times

After fun, I’d rest under a big umbrella, reading comics or just daydreaming. This vacation would be a time to relax, laugh, and make happy memories. It’s my perfect break from school!

250 Words Essay on My Dream Vacation

Introduction to my dream vacation.

Everyone loves to take a break from their daily routine, and I am no different. My dream vacation is a trip to Japan, a land with a beautiful mix of old traditions and new technology. I imagine spending two weeks there, exploring everything from the quiet countryside to the bustling city streets.

Exploring the Cities

First, I would visit Tokyo, the capital city. Tokyo is known for its amazing sights like the Tokyo Tower and the busy Shibuya Crossing. I would love to see the city lights at night and taste the local food like sushi and ramen from the street vendors. Walking through the city, I would see tall buildings and many different shops.

Enjoying Nature

After the city, I would like to see the countryside. Japan has beautiful mountains, like Mount Fuji, and I would enjoy seeing the cherry blossoms in the spring. The peaceful gardens and quiet temples would be a nice change from the noisy city. I could also visit the hot springs to relax.

Learning About Culture

Japanese culture is very interesting to me. I would visit museums to learn about samurai and ninjas. I would also like to see a traditional tea ceremony and maybe try on a kimono, which is a Japanese dress.

My dream vacation to Japan would be a mix of city excitement and country peace. It would be a chance to see new things, eat new foods, and learn about a different culture. This trip would be an adventure that I would remember for my whole life.

500 Words Essay on My Dream Vacation

Everyone loves a good vacation. It is a time to relax, enjoy, and see new places. My dream vacation is no different. I dream of a trip that is full of fun, learning, and adventure. In this essay, I will share what my dream vacation looks like.

The Perfect Destination

The perfect place for my dream vacation is Japan. Japan is a country with beautiful mountains, bustling cities, and amazing culture. I have always wanted to see the cherry blossoms in bloom, try sushi from where it started, and ride on the super-fast bullet trains.

On my dream vacation, I plan to do lots of fun things. First, I want to visit Tokyo Disneyland. It’s a magical place where I can meet my favorite characters and ride exciting rides. Then, I want to climb Mount Fuji. It is a big mountain, and from the top, I can see a great view. Lastly, I wish to attend a traditional tea ceremony. It is a special way to learn about Japanese culture.

Learning New Things

Vacations are not just for fun; they are also for learning. In Japan, I can learn many new things. I can visit museums to learn about history and science. I can go to a language school to learn some Japanese words. I can even learn how to make sushi!

Making Friends

One of the best parts of going on vacation is making new friends. In Japan, I hope to meet many people. I can talk with local kids, make friends, and play games. This way, I can learn about their lives and share stories about mine.

Japan is also known for its beautiful nature. I want to see the cherry blossoms, which are pink and white flowers that look like a dream. I also want to visit the beaches and maybe even see a snow monkey. Nature is important, and on my dream vacation, I want to enjoy it a lot.

Trying Delicious Food

Food is a big part of any vacation. In Japan, there are so many tasty things to try. I want to eat sushi, noodles, and try matcha ice cream. Food helps us understand a place better, and I want to try as many Japanese foods as I can.

In conclusion, my dream vacation is a trip to Japan where I can have fun, learn, make friends, enjoy nature, and eat delicious food. It is a place where I can experience new things and create memories that will last forever. I hope one day I can turn this dream into a reality and have the best vacation ever.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

When a Couple’s Paradise Honeymoon Became a Gothic Mystery

Scarlett Thomas’s latest novel, “The Sleepwalkers,” recounts the tale of a couple’s disastrous getaway, told through letters, transcripts and more.

an essay about my vacation

By Flynn Berry

Flynn Berry is the author of the novels “Northern Spy,” “A Double Life,” “Under the Harrow” and the forthcoming “Trust Her.”

THE SLEEPWALKERS , by Scarlett Thomas

My arguments on vacation have always been dreary — disagreements with my mom on how far to walk before setting up a beach umbrella, squabbles with friends over where to eat — but other people’s vacation arguments are sinister and seductive. Or at least they are in books, and especially in Scarlett Thomas’s 11th novel, “The Sleepwalkers,” as a couple’s trip abroad in a dazzling, dangerous territory (a landscape familiar from Highsmith and Hitchcock, “La Piscine” and Françoise Sagan) is derailed by latent tensions.

At the start of “The Sleepwalkers,” Evelyn and Richard are on a Greek island for their honeymoon. As they talk and drink carafes of wine, their conversation wrinkles with the private riptides of aggression and jealousy that flow under their relationship. Both of them have been lying, and now they are far from home, exposed by the “kind of heat in which secrets melt, like beef tallow.”

The entire island is suffused with threat and intrigue, from the bruised pomegranates that fall off the trees and dot the island’s paths to the hornets that fly by, “bright as a bullet, drunk on the end of summer and the glut of fruit.” Everything seems to be hot, on the boil. Nearly every interaction holds the possibility of betrayal or violence.

The central mystery of the novel seems to be what happened at Evelyn and Richard’s wedding to send them into such turmoil. Except the story crackles with little distortions: Mirrors and bird cages appear with eerie frequency, paintings vanish from a wall, and other oddities complicate the narrative. Evelyn and Richard also learn about the ypnovátes , the sleepwalkers, a couple who drowned on the island the summer before.

So is this a ghost story, or a time loop, or a memory play? For Thomas, nothing seems to be off the table. She shifts between erotic thrills, gothic drama, postmodern deconstruction and kitchen-sink realism. Through her bold storytelling, “The Sleepwalkers” becomes a work of peculiar, gonzo genius.

The story is told through letters, notes, guest book pages and other documents. We encounter 17 audacious pages of an uncorrected, almost illegible audio transcript. Elsewhere, gaps appear in paragraphs where someone else, presumably, has erased the writing. Some of the documents that make up the book have been torn or burned, which makes sense — the pages are as damaged and degraded as the characters themselves.

Exploitation, in different forms, emerges again and again in “The Sleepwalkers.” During university, Evelyn worked as a housekeeper for Richard’s family. Evelyn recalls how his mother insisted she eat “with them, treating her like a daughter almost. A daughter who cleans.” Now an actor and playwright, Evelyn is still trying to understand her employers’ power over her. Richard downplays his wife’s former position in his family home, and his own relative privilege. In a section of the novel rendered through one of his letters, he writes, “People assume they can know about someone else’s past because of their gender, or their social class, or their parents. Try asking them instead about the secret alliances they made, and who was blackmailing them, and the secrets they’d rather die than own. Ask them about their shame, and their darkness.” By the time they arrive at their honeymoon, both Evelyn and Richard have been eroded by large-scale forces as powerful as the storm that sweeps away the island’s beach every fall.

Reading “The Sleepwalkers,” I was wrong about so much; I wasn’t even looking in the right direction, and that process of disorientation felt corrective and necessary. Thomas takes a glamorous late-capitalist setting, with rosé and catamarans, and shreds, twists and warps it into a story that is surprising, humane and political to its bones.

We Told Our Teen Son How Much We Expect Him to Pay for College. His Reaction Deeply Worries Me.

We’ve made it very clear..

Slate Plus members get more  Care and Feeding  every week. Have a question about kids, parenting, or family life?  Submit it here !

Dear Care and Feeding,

My son is 16 and an eleventh grader. He gets decent grades and has a wide friend group. He plays sports for part of the year. He is set on his college, has some vocational interests, and is a people-pleaser. He’s also violently opposed to planning ahead.

He’s been like this since he entered puberty—about everything—though it’s been getting worse since COVID. He won’t plan what to take to eat on a game day, he won’t figure out what he wants for gifts, and he won’t talk about summer vacation plans. I sense that it’s anxiety-driven, and while I don’t worry about it when it comes to lower-stakes things, college isn’t something you can just show up to.

I toured colleges with him this fall in the hopes of getting him into the mindset of planning for it, but it didn’t have any effect. He probably won’t get a ton of scholarships, and we have made clear to him the specific amount of money we are willing to pay, leaving him about $8,000 per year plus incidentals to pay for himself, because we feel like our kids should have a little skin in the game. This is a big financial risk, so I don’t want to leave him to just sink or swim. I’ve tried telling him the importance of making just a few decisions about his future. My husband and I have also modeled our thinking out loud about money a ton. He’s talked to his counselor. We’ve taken him to the financial aid office at the college he’s chosen. I’m out of ideas outside of not letting him go to college at all until he has a financial plan for it.

—Please Make a Plan, Man

Dear Make a Plan,

Let me first say that I know how hard parenting a teenager is. For my money, it is way harder than parenting a newborn, infant, or toddler. You can’t tell them what to do (it only makes them veer harder in the opposite direction), they’re convinced they’re grown up and capable of making their own decisions—and you don’t understand anything anyway, so how can you possibly offer useful advice (and how’d that happen, both you and they wonder, when they used to think you were so wise?)—but they’re kids, and a lot of things they do, or even just want to do, are stupid, dangerous, and indefensible.

That said, I’m a little bit confused by your letter. You say your child refuses to plan anything—but he has chosen a college (and you took him college tours, so it doesn’t seem as if he picked one at random). He’s also gotten “decent grades,” which means he must do some planning with regard to his homework and tests. His unwillingness to decide in advance about food for game days is something I read as, “I don’t really care what I bring to eat, OK?” (and if you strenuously object to this, “natural consequences”—as in your not including on your weekly grocery list anything he might throw together at the last minute—would solve that problem for you). His reluctance to tell you what he wants for his birthday—well, there are reasons other than an inability to plan that would account for that, too (maybe he wants you to come up with a gift idea yourself because that would make the gift more meaningful to him). I guess what I’m wondering is: Are these problems for him, or only for you? And if they’re problems only for you (does he care about making summer plans ahead of time or is he OK with figuring it out on the fly?), then I think that your labeling him Not a Planner is a bigger concern than anything he’s actually doing or not doing—because, like all of us, he is who he is. If the people he loves, trusts, and relies on most in the world put him in a box, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy as well as a source of resentment.

But to get to the heart of your question—I know you’re waiting impatiently: What about financial planning?

1) Most teenagers are terrible at this. And if he—like most teenagers—has never had to think about money in this way before, he’s got a steep learning curve ahead of him.

2) I’m interested in the way you frame your decision about funding his education. If I’m reading this right, you can afford to pay for it—but you want him “to have skin in the game” so you’ve (arbitrarily?) chosen a figure of $32,000 plus “incidentals” (I’m also curious about what you consider those to be) for him to fund on his own. I’ll be blunt. Unless you made that clear to him from the time he was old enough to have a conversation, that is a lot to spring on a 16-year-old. It is an unimaginable sum of money, as is the very idea of the debt he will incur. This isn’t “skin in the game,” by my lights, and I don’t think it teaches him anything about fiscal responsibility.

3) If I am misreading you—if you can’t afford to pay the entire cost of his education at the school he’s chosen, and he hasn’t been preparing for years to make a significant contribution of his own—then you should tell him that. You should have told him that long ago. (I made it clear to my own kid, early on, that if she wanted to go to college anywhere other than Ohio State, where I had a substantial faculty discount—and where tuition wasn’t that steep to begin with compared to private institutions—she was going to have to be the sort of student who could get into one of the top-tier universities that meet the full financial need of everyone admitted. This was not a threat—it was just a fact. Spoiler alert: She met the challenge.)

4) If you can’t—or won’t, out of principle—pay for his education at the college he’s picked out (which I have to assume he’s certain he’ll get into? That’s a big assumption, but I’ll let that be for now), I think you should not only tell him that, but tell him what his other options are. One sensible one would be to live at home and attend a community college before transferring after two years. That would cut costs considerably. It will also wake him up to the reality of what you’re hoping he’ll understand: That his options are limited and that he has to work out on his own how to get what he wants. Another, tougher option, is to tell him he has no choice but to take a gap year or two and earn money on his own (with only a high school diploma, it won’t be enough to cover all of what you expect him to, but it would be a start, and it would certainly teach him the lesson you have in mind).

5) In case you haven’t come to this conclusion yourself, I’ll spell it out for you: If you can afford to pay for his schooling, I think you ought to. But I think you should make sure that the schooling he gets is only what you can afford. And tell him that. Now.
