A teen Sim does homework on a plain desk

In The Sims 4 ’s new expansion, High School Years , your teen Sims can head out to school the same way some Sims head to work. You can go with them to control what they do throughout the school day, affecting their relationships and academic growth.

Notably, in the career tab for the teen Sim, you’ll see that they have a daily task to “do homework” after every school day (as you’d expect from school). Though homework for young Sims is not a new addition, it can be new for players who never had teenage Sims.

The homework your teen Sim has to do will be in their personal inventory , as a little blue book. You can select it and click “do homework” and your teen Sim will move to a nearby table to do it.

Based on our gameplay, not doing homework didn’t do anything too dramatic to the Sims’ school performances. As long as your teen Sim is attending class, they’ll progress in their career just fine. However, if you want them to improve their grades faster, they should actively be doing their homework.

Education Overhaul

Education Overhaul

A downloadable mod

This might just be my favorite mod I've made... This originally started out as a request to make a small addition of more school projects for children using game objects. It turned into something much more... I've done an overhaul of the Education Career and Preschool, Elementary/Middle, and Secondary school in the Sims 4 in general.

For YA and up, there's a new branch of the Education Career for K-12 teachers with new assignments, tasks, new career goals, rework of the education track, support for degrees and university career entitlements including custom degrees.

Toddlers have the option to go to preschool on Mondays-Fridays for about 7 hours. They will develop all toddler skills, have their needs met, and learn character values. They have a chance to  receive buffs at the end of their day.

Children and Teens are the focus of this mod. There are also a ton of new options for children and teens: in school interactions, field trips, the return of detention and military school, variable school projects, different types of homework assignments, new school options, and more.

Please read the mod description as it is very important you understand what the mod does and what it affects.

Education Career

  • Reworked the introductory track of the career to be broader and incorporate levels from Sims 1, 2, and 3
  • New Branch in Education Career: K-12 Educator
  • Added support for Discover University with required degrees. Sims needs a degree in Art History, Biology, Economics, Literature and Languages, Physics, Psychology, or Zero's custom Education Degree to advance to a branch
  • Degrees requirements from any of these fields leads to career entitlements for PTO, signing bonuses, performance, etc.
  • Shortened the length of time for tutoring and adjusted the pay for completion
  • New Custom Daily Task (Research Teaching Methods)
  • Work from Home Assignments (Answer Parent Emails, Research Teaching Techniques, Write Progress Reports, Attend Department Meetings)
  • New Career Goals for starting track and Educator branch

sims 4 high school years homework

Towards the end of finishing the mod, I realized I needed a preschool option that occurred during the day. Toddlers can now enroll in Preschool on Monday- Fridays from about 730am and will stay there for about 7 hours. Enroll the Toddler by clicking on the Toddler you want to enroll. They can manually be sent by clicking on the toddler, if necessary. While away, their needs will be met, they will gain skills, and increase their character values. You have the option to keep them home instead by canceling the Preschool interaction.

sims 4 high school years homework

**Note about Preschool and Daycare/Nanny: The Nanny/Daycare situation and notifications are hardcoded into the game. Therefore the notification will pop up when there's no one at home even if the toddler is already at Preschool. Y ou must choose the Send to Daycare option . This will not actually send them to daycare, they will go and stay at Preschool but the game requires a choice. Note also that if you travel off lot with another Sim, they will come back from Preschool when you return home. Because the game code does constant toddler checks and does everything in its power to send unattended toddlers to daycare, sometimes the toddler may come home early or go to daycare. I've blocked a lot of this, but it will still happen on occasion.***

New Education Enrollment Options

There are a few new education options in the game for children and teens. There are two independent/private prep school - Wintercrest Preparatory School and SimCity Academy- and two new alternate public options: Bedlington Latin School (a specialized exam school) and Striker Alternative School (an alternative school for learning difficulties and behavioral/social-emotional difficulties). There are two experimental boarding schools - Fort Starch Military Institute and Huntington Preparatory Academy. Please note that the boarding schools are an experimental feature and are still a beta.

sims 4 high school years homework

Application Process

All the new school options have application requirements to complete on the computer (under the School menu under Career)before your sim can join them. An application fee, a personal statement/essay, and a tour/interview/evaluation are required. After writing the personal statement and going on the tour/interview/evaluation, they will need to go back to the computer to submit their final application and pay the application fee for private/independent school. The student must complete and submit all application requirements, but if accepted, only parents can enroll their children. Similarly, only parents can withdraw their children from school. After submission, your sim should hear back from the Admissions Committee within 4 hours. You have 24 hours to enroll the student once accepted or the spot is lost. You can reapply after 5 days.

There is a chance a Sim's applications can be rejected, though this is less likely depending on grades, after which they will remain in public school. Sims who have a failing grade of F at any school have a chance of flunking out and being sent to Striker Alternative School.

Independent/Private and Exam Schools

Independent/private and the specialized schools works similarly to EA school although Sims are more likely to gain skills and increase character values due to their enrollment and learn skills faster due to their wider opportunities and first-rate education. Sims who attend independent/private school will wear uniforms. School hours are 7:30am-1:30pm for upper school students and 7:30am-2:30pm for lower school students.

Virtual School

Students can now be enrolled in Virtual School. To enroll in Virtual School, use the School menu under the phone (as the student) or the computer. Once enrolled, each day before school starts, they will have the option to Attend In-Person Classes or Attend School Virtually.

If they decide to attend school virtually, they will have three tasks to perform which can include (but are not limited to) the following options:

Group Session with Classmates

Study Independently

Do 2 Hours of Physical Exercise

Complete Experiential Learning

Complete Assessment

Attend Virtual Classes

Complete Assignments

Students must Log on and Log out of the Virtual Classroom at the beginning and end of each school day. When attending classes, students must choose from one core class, one elective class, and one skills class. Students enrolled in Virtual School still can participate in school activities including in-school opportunities and after school events and can receive assignments like other students. Occult School

Occult Sims can enroll on the phone under the School menu or on the computer in an Occults only school. There they will gain experience and skills related to their specific occult.

Boarding School

NOTE: Boarding Schools are an experimental feature! They may not always work as expected. If they don't work for you, withdraw your Sim via phone/computer and choose another school option. **When EA fixes rabbithole exit conditions, I will update functionality.**

Students who are at boarding school can only be withdrawn at their parent's behest or upon aging up to young adult. There's a chance that after a few days the Sim may become homesick. A parent will receive notification asking if they wish to withdraw the homesick Sim or not. While the student is away, they can still have texts sent to them and chat with family members through the relationship panel. If you wish a Sim to stop going to boarding school permanently, you must cancel the interaction and then either have an adult withdraw them using the phone/computer and they'll go to their local public school or you can apply to a different application-required school and upon acceptance they will automatically be withdrawn.

After aging up to teen and during holidays, your boarding sim will come home for a two day break and then return to boarding school. Once aging up to a teen, a notification will pop up asking if the parents wish to pay for another year's tuition or unenroll the sim. The sim will be enrolled into Public School upon unenrollment. During Summer your boarding sim will come home for summer break and then return to boarding school. You can end their break and send them back at anytime under the phone menu. Sims at boarding school will have the chance to learn and gain most major skills. You can bring your boarding school sim home at any time, but in order to formally enroll them in another school, you must withdraw them from boarding school via the School menu. Note: If your sim's still grey in the panel after returning from boarding school, travel to a different lot and then back and they should be normal again.

Grade School and High School Changes

Homework, School Projects, and Assignments

Added the ability for your Sims to do their homework online. The option exists under the Career menu.

sims 4 high school years homework

Added more Homework Options for Children and Teen through Homework Book which increases skills and character values while fulfilling homework task

Unlocked Homework book options for Children:

  • Fill Out Activity Chart (Motor)
  • Do Math Problems (Mental)
  • Practice Vocabulary (Creativity)
  • Review Social Studies (Social)

Homework book options created for Teens:

  • Study Dramaturgy (Charisma/Acting)
  • Submit Original Composition (Piano/Violin/Guitar)
  • Prove Scientific Principles (Rocket Science)
  • Write English Paper (Writing)
  • Work on Art Critique (Painting)
  • Solve Linear Equations (Logic)
  • Compose Analytical Argument (Research&Debate/Logic)

New School Projects and Active Assignments

Randomly every week or two, child and teen Sims will receive the additional assignments and projects. Not completing these custom projects and assignments before the next school day will penalize their work performance. If assigned one of these custom projects and assignments, they will count as homework when assigned and Sims will not be able to use the homework book to complete their homework.

sims 4 high school years homework

A note about EA's Parenthood School Projects: If installed, these projects will now no longer be given every Monday. They will be randomly assigned along with the custom assignments. They will also need to be completed before the next school day, will count as homework, and will no longer be for extra credit.

  • Artwork Assignment - Spend time working on artwork/painting
  • Coding Assignment - Beginner coding assignment (new BG interaction)
  • Essay Assignment - Spend time writing an essay on computer or in homework book (new BG interaction)
  • Music Assignment - Practice for Band Concert, Orchestra, or Recital
  • Performance Assignment - Practice for Role by Learning Lines (new interactions, BG compatible), Singing, Puppet Theatre
  • Science Assignment- Chemistry Experiment (Children); Stargazing at Observatory (Teens)
  • Test Assignment - Study for Exam (new study options on the computer)

School Day Changes

Detention makes a comeback! If your sim spends most of their time in school (via one of the new away interactions below) either sleeping in class, disrupting class, goofing off, or gets caught doing homework there's a chance they could be sent to after-school detention. Detention lasts for about 2 hours. Detention is more likely the poorer a student's grades are. If a Sim gets Detention, their parents may discipline the student. If your Sim gets repeated detentions and have poor grades, they are more likely to be kicked out of school and forced to attend the alternative school.

Actively Participate (Study Hard) - Increases Performance, Skills, Empathy, Responsibility, and Manners. Decreases Fun.
Be Disruptive - Increases Fun. Lowers Performance, Responsibility, Emotional Control, and Manners. Chance for Detention.

  • Planetarium
  • Professional Theatre Production
  • Sim River Conservatory

In-School Events

sims 4 high school years homework

At the end of the school day, children and teens can choose to participate in a Spelling Bee (grade school only), Student Body Elections (teens only), Science Fair, or Art Showcase. They have a chance to win a prize.

Honor Roll/Honor Society

Students with high grades and skills have an opportunity to make honor roll (Grade School and Middle School) or join the Honor Society (High School).

School Hours

Hours for public high schoolers have been changed from 8am-3pm to 8am-2pm.

sims 4 high school years homework

Your sims can now experience the joys of snow days. They will randomly occur, mostly during winter but a small chance they can happen during fall or spring, on days when there's snow on the ground and your sims will have a day off to lament the snow or make snow angels!

Summer and Winter Break

sims 4 high school years homework

Sims enrolled in all schools (including the private school from the Private School mod) will now no longer be required to attend school during the summer and winter. They will have the opportunity be on break for the entire summer and mid-to-late winter and will automatically return to school on the next weekday of Fall/Spring. Of course, parents can elect to send their children back at any time via the School menu on the phone or computer as well as opt-out of sending them at all.

Dropping Out

For some, school just isn't the way. Children and Teens have the ability to use the Drop out of School option available in the School menu on the phone. Dropping out will make it more difficult to become promoted if they seek employment. An adult in the household can always enroll them back in school if they change their minds. (I will be adding a GED-type course and exam for those who drop out in the future).

School Milestones and After School Events

Note: The separate mod is being phased out and should not be used with this mod.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Sims can sign up for Parent-Conferences and learn about their students' progress.

Game Night and Theater Performance

After school on some days, children and teens have an opportunity to get a chance to attend the school play or sports game with household members and friends.

Prom and School Dances

sims 4 high school years homework

These now occur randomly during school nights.

sims 4 high school years homework

Graduation now occurs automatically on a teen Sim's last day as a teen. If you having aging off, you can manually choose to have graduation for your teen, but it will not age them up. They will attend in cap and gown if from public or private school or in military dress if from military school. Depending on their grades, graduates have a chance to graduate with honors or be valedictorian. Upon graduation, they will be withdrawn from school.

School Picture Day

sims 4 high school years homework

School picture day can now randomly have occurred during or at the end of the school day for both teens and children. Your sim will get a notification it happened and a random buff.

Academic Aptitude Test

During the last 3 days as a Teen, Teen Sims will receive a notification that they have the opportunity to go and take an Academic Aptitude Test via the phone or computer. Taking the test will give them a large boost in performance. This is especially helpful if you have a mod that takes into account a Sim's final grade level/trait for University acceptance.

Future Plans

  • Add the ability to obtain High School Graduate Level Certificate after homeschooling or dropping out and becoming Young Adult.
  • Update functionality for boarding schools once EA fixes rabbithole exit conditions
  • Add changes to university acceptance based on school performance and which schools attended (i.e. going to prep school might give you a little leg up in uni acceptance) in a collaboration with Ilkavelle
  • Add a couple active school trips and an actual graduation event to start after graduation

Requirements

Required Packs

Discover University (Only for the Education Career. It's the adeepindigo_gameplaymods_EducationOverhaul_M_DU_REQUIRED_EducationCareer file. Do not install if you do not have Discover University.) High School Years (Only for the files labeled HSY)

Snowy Escape is NOT required for the EA Default version but if you have it, you can choose the pack uniform your sims will wear to Prep School in the ChooseSnowyEscapeUniform version.

Compatibility and Instructions

NOTE: Mod Conflicts simply mean the same files are used and if both in the game could cause one or the other not to work as intended depending upon how they're loaded. If a mod is not listed below, I did not find a conflict with it, but if you do, let me know.

Download Instructions:

Read Instructions 1-6 and the Compatibility and Conflict Information below. No other mods are needed for this mod to work. Place the entire folder from the zip file into your mods as is. The path should be similar to this: Electronic Arts -The Sims 4 - Mods - [adeepindigo] Education Overhaul v4. Do not change the name. If you have School Milestones installed, delete before adding this mod! Make sure if you have Family and Youth Activities, it's version 2.9 or higher.

Also, always clear your cache when installing or uninstalling script mods!!

1. Delete any previous versions (the whole mod and all modules).

No other mods are needed for the mod to work that are not included in the zip. Check, double check, and triple check you do not have a conflicting mod installed (detailed explicitly below) before installing.

2. Download the CORE file and script. Download any modules you want in your game. IF you choose to download the AlternateRabbitholeSchools, choose only ONE version.

EA Default (No Uniforms) Mod Version : This version of the mod has no custom uniforms and all schools including private schools have the default uniform settings (everyday). This will allow you to plan an everyday outfit to use for your sim but you'll need to change into it before school like usual.

Choose Snowy Escape Uniform Mod Version : Snowy Escape required. This version of the mod will allow you to choose a Snowy Escape uniform for each age and gender for all private school uniforms. I have prechosen a uniform for each age and gender. If you wish to change it, replace the files in the SnowyEscapeUniform folder with those you'd like instead.

Core (Required) - This is the main file required for the mod to work.

Extracurricular Activities and Events - This adds Sports/Game Night and  School Musical as events your Sims can attend after school.

Alternate Schools - This adds four new schools including one private school, one exam school, one independent school, and one alternative school.

Boarding Schools - This adds boarding schools to the game.

Field Trips - This adds six field trips students can attend in lieu of school of certain days.

More Schoolwork Options Compatibility - This option is needed if more school work is installed and one has High School Years installed.

More Schoolwork Options - This requires Parenthood. It adds additional schoolwork options to your sim's homework book as well as different projects they can work on for homework including science projects, art projects, and more.

Preschool - This adds a preschool option for toddlers.

School Breaks and Snow Days - This adds the option for students to get school breaks including a Winter break, Summer Break, as well as Snow Days.

School Day Changes and Possibilities - This adds in school events such as Science Fair, Honor Roll, Arts Show as well as Detention

School Milestone Events - This adds school dances for grade  and middle school as well as prom and graduation for those without High School Years pack.

Virtual School - This adds an alternate school that Sims can attend from home

Education Career - This requires Discover University. This includes a revamp of the Education Career.

Education Overhaul/HSY Compatibility - This is required if you have High School Years pack.

Occult School - This is adds an alternate school that Sims can attend if they are occults to learn occult specific experience and gains

Skill and Character Value Gains - This optional file allows your sims to gain skills and character value points when at school

4.  If you do not have a pack corresponding to the required pack on the file name, do not install that particular file. The core mod and all modules without packs required in the names are BG compatible. 5. Clear Cache

6. For the Snowy Escape Version, I have prechosen a uniform for each age and gender.

If you wish to change it, replace the files in the SnowyEscapeUniform folder with those you'd like instead. The alternative options are in the AlternateSnowyEscapeUniform zip file.

Troubleshooting Instructions

1. If you are using the mod and can't access options, clear your cache and make sure you have the updated general pie menus. If you are looking for cheats, they are under the Action menu. 2. If you get BE UI errors, you are missing the general pie menus and/or the Mood Pack. They are REQUIRED. 3. The Shared Mod tuning files are required. You need ALL of the files unless you either have Private Practice in which case you don't need the GTW file or you use Dynamic Teen Life Addon for HSY Activities in which case you don't need the HSY Activities file. In all other cases, you need all the files. However, you only need one copy so if you use another mod that already includes the files, you only need to install them once.

4. If you are using the mod and get a game error or can't open your game, your download was most likely corrupted by your browser when downloading. You must do the following in order

  • Step 1: Delete all iterations of the download from your computer including downloads folder and mods folder
  • Step 2: Delete your browser cache
  • Step 3: Delete your game folder cache
  • Step 4: Delete your resource.cfg (it will be regenerated)
  • Load up the game and try again.
  • Step 5: If that doesn't work, try downloading from a different browser or the alternate download link in the mod's description post after repeating the first 4 steps.
  • Step 6: Load up your game again.
  • Step 7: If that doesn't work, try downloading from a different browser and using the alternate download link after repeating the first 4 steps.
  • Step 8: Load up your game and try again.
  • Step 9: If this does not work, you can try for mod support on Discord.

Compatibility and Conflict Information:

ItsKatato's PreTeen Mod will not conflict.

KS Education Bundle is compatible with one exception: the Better Schools folder will conflict and is not needed with this mod as similar options are included in this mod. Delete the files KS-Better Grade School mod.package and KS-Better High School mod.package . The rest of the Education Bundle is fully compatible.

Kuttoe's Career Overhaul is compatible with this mod with one important exception : the Education Career Goals package in Kuttoe's Career Overhaul. To avoid the issue, simply delete the file Kuttoe_CareerReqs_Education.package found under Kuttoe Career Overhaul Suite- Career Goals/Discovery University Careers. Do not use that package with this mod; they are incompatible and will cause issues.  All other portions of the Career Overhaul are fine to use with this mod.

LMS/Scarlet's Subject Homework will not conflict with this.

Shenanagin's Private School Mod will not conflict with this mod. You can withdraw your sims from Private School with this mod but you need to go through the Private School mod's enrollment event to gain entrance. However, if your sim is enrolled in Private School they will still get summer break, a chance for detention, field trips, and school assignments.

My School Milestones mod will conflict with this mod and is not needed with this mod as these options have been reworked and integrated into this mod. Delete that mod!

School Uniforms in Any World by MizoreYuki will not technically conflict but it will cause your Sims to wear Snowy Escape uniforms to public and private school and requires Snowy Escape.

Zerbu's Go to School works with this mod but if you choose to follow your sim to school you will not receive a chance for the additional assignments, new away actions, or receive detention. Those options are only available in the school rabbithole. You will not get the chance to follow your sims to school if enrolled in boarding school or independent/private school. If you aren't getting the popups for Zerbu's mod, rename the Zerbu - Go to School Mod Pack (Old Code) to !Zerbu - Go to School Mod Pack (Old Code) and make sure it's directly in your mods folder.

Zero's Required Degrees for Promotions-UNI package will conflict. The rest of the mod will not.

Zero's Teens Jump to University Mod will conflict. Ilkavelle has a similar mod that does not here .

Zafire's Mandatory School Uniforms will conflict. Please do not use with this mod. That mod has been included in this mod, many thanks to Zafire!

Install instructions

The Sims 4 High School Years guide, from prom, after-school activities, Social Bunny and Trendi

Surviving - and thriving - in high school has never been easier

The Sims 4 High School Years gives your Sims the opportunity to experience their high school years to the fullest!

Having this new The Sims 4 expansion installed will give Simmers the keys to enhancing their Teen Sims lifestyles. No longer will Teens just be Young Adults in disguise, but will get the option to attend class (in-person, not somewhere off-lot), pull pranks, decorate their own locker, and even join an after-school club. There's also the ever important prom to think about too.

This page explains how to enroll in high school , after-school activities that you can take part in, how to become prom royalty or jester , and all of the cool tips and tricks that'll make your Sims 4 high school years one to remember.

On this page:

How to enroll in High School in The Sims 4

The sims 4 high school years aspirations and traits, prom in the sims 4 high school years explained, after-school activities in the sims 4 high school years, how to use social bunny in the sims 4, how to use trendi and thriftea in the sims 4 high school years, puberty and body changes in the sims 4 high school years explained, can you create your own high school in the sims 4, the sims 4 high school years tips and tricks.

The Sims 4 High School Years expansion pack adds a new lease of life to the high school system. When you install the expansion pack, Sims who are Teens automatically are enrolled into High School, unlike The Sims 4 University where you need to enroll yourself.

With your Sims already enrolled, when it comes around to head to school, you'll be asked whether you want to send your Sims to school without following them, or you can follow your Sims and be with them through their day-to-day activities. Regardless of which option you choose, your Sims will head to school for the day.

the sims 4 enroll high school students

The Sims 4 High School schedule

After you head to school, your Sims days will be split into four different sections. The first is when you first arrive to school. You'll have around an hour and a half to socialize for a little while, or even cram in some study time. You'll have to move on fast though, because time moves fast in The Sims 4!

Once your free time is over, you'll head to your first lesson. If for some reason you don't know where to go, hover over a whiteboard until you can interact with it, this will always be the classroom you're supposed to be in. If you can't interact with a certain whiteboard in a classroom, your lesson must take place somewhere else.

After your first lesson, you'll have two and a half hours to eat lunch and do whatever else you'd like to do. This could be studying, decorating your locker, performing challenges with your friend, or even asking people out to Prom.

This leads to your last lesson of the day, which your Sim should attend without your guidance. Still, if they get stuck for whatever reason, you can always redirect them yourself. After this lesson is done, it's home time.

Unless you've already signed up for an after-school activity... If so, read on!

the sims 4 high school years

As with most expansion packs that come to The Sims 4, High School Years adds a number of different traits and aspirations. Traits are characteristics that make up your Sims personality, whereas aspirations are what your Sims goals are throughout life. We've listed both traits and aspirations below.

The Sims 4 High School Years Traits

  • Socially Awkward - These Sims struggle in social situations and build charisma much more slowly. However, they gain powerful Moodlets and Sentiments when they are able to overcome their awkwardness.
  • Party Animal - These Sims love to party and hyping up others through performing tricks and pranks.
  • Overachiever - These Sims tend to raise their skills faster, and are their happiest when completing tasks. That said, they are harder to get to know as friends.

the sims 4 socially awkward

The Sims 4 High School Years Aspirations

Because High School Years is centered around teenagers, you'll be able to find all school-focused aspirations in the Teen tag. All aspirations picked from the Teen tag will give Sims the Relatable trait , making it easier to build relationships with fellow teens.

  • Drama Llama - This Sim wants to know ALL of the drama. Gossip, break-ups, fights, you name it - this Sim wants to know about it.
  • Admired Icon - This Sim wants to be adored by their peers, whether through trend-setting, popularity, or knowledge.
  • Live Fast - Sims with this aspiration want to live free and fast, with zero rules and zero boundaries. Adrenaline rush, here we come!
  • Goal Orientated - This Sim wants to be the best at absolutely everything. Sports? Money? Grades? All of it and more.

Success at prom is all dependent on what you're looking to get out of it in this expansion pack. Are you trying to get prom royalty, or do you want to spice everything up and be the Prom Jester instead? In this section we'll teach you how to attend prom, how to create your own prom proposal, and how to make your teen Sims prom nights one to remember!

The Sims 4 High School Years Prom

How Prom works and how to attend it

As you continue your first high school week, you'll eventually get a notification about Prom coming up. Prom usually happens at the end of the week on a Saturday, but just to be extra sure, you can look on your Household Calendar.

Once the day rolls around, you will be asked whether you'd like to attend Prom. This is a yes or no answer. No will mean you skip prom, yes means you'll go.

How Prom works is that your Sim, if they decide to go, can go by themself, with friends, or they can ask a very special someone to the Prom with them. This will give them a Prom Date sentiment. But be warned, just because they said yes doesn't mean that they won't change their mind, so be sure to give your Prom date all of the attention they deserve.

How to ask someone to Prom

Asking someone you like to the Prom can be mortifying if it doesn't go well, even in a simulated game! Still, if you're looking to ask someone to the Prom, we'll teach you how.

First you must wait until you get a notification about Prom. Once that's done, you'll be able to click on a Sim of your choice and get a few options: Promise to Skip Prom Together, Ask for Prom Tips, Ask to Prom, Ask to Prom as Friends, Claim to be Prom Royalty, and Present Prom Proposal Sign. Depending on what your preference is, select which option you'd like.

However, if you want to get creative and go all out in order to win the love and affection of your prom date, you should present them with a proposal sign. To do just that, click on your Sim, then the Prom tab and then Create Prom Proposal sign. Once that's done, you can present it to the Sim of your choice.

How to become the Prom King, Prom Queen or Prom Jester

Much like in real life, Prom in The Sims 4 High School Years asks you to select who will be taking home the crown at Prom.

In this version of prom, Sims attend the event via the Auditorium and are given the option to dance, eat, socialize and just have a good time. At the far corner of the building however is a noticeboard, where you can click on it cast your votes for Prom Royalty and Prom Jester - two very different categories. Instead of just using gendered roles like Prom King and Queen, Prom Royalty encompasses it all into one, making the only two things you're able to win is Prom Royalty or Prom Jester.

the sims 4 prom royalty

Despite trying numerous of times, it does feel like no matter how many times you vote for a certain person, the game's selection of who is Prom Royalty or Prom Jester is reliant mostly on luck.

Once you select whichever Sim you'd like to win the category, you can go back and enjoy the rest of the Prom. After a while, the Principal will call everyone together and will announce who the winners are for the selected categories.

Once announced, Prom will continue for a few more hours before it ends and your Sims will head home.

All work and no play will make your Sims very dull indeed, so why not pick an after-school activity for them to get involved in? If you join a club, you'll not only increase your skills, but get to know other teenagers and make more friends.

There are four different teams you can join for more extracurricular activities, and all take place after school hours. These teams are: Computer, Chess, Football and Cheerleading. As far as we know from our own experimentation, you are unable to start your own after-school activities.

How to join after-school activities

There are two different ways to join an after-school activity. The first requires you checking your mobile phone at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen, and selecting the business app. The business app resembles a suitcase and is yellow.

The Sims 4 after school activity

Once selected, you'll be given a full list of all of the after-school activities. If you'd rather use a computer than your phone, you can also use the High School tab via a laptop/PC, which will also allow you to pick your activities.

The second way is to directly join an activity after school. To do this you must stay on campus after classes end, and head to the lockers. There you'll see representatives of the after-school activities, and talking to them will allow you to know more about your club and will allow you to join.

Once you've joined an after-school activity, you'll have specific requirements you need to meet in order to be allowed to stay in the club and succeed. Some clubs will also give you certain items to help, such as a cheerleading mat for the Cheerleaders team and a football for the Football team.

Another feature that's been added alongside The Sims 4 High School Years is a new app called Social Bunny. This app is a bit of a mixture between Facebook and Twitter, allowing you to post statuses and slide into people's DMs if you so choose. In other words, it's an extremely cursed app. But it has its uses, particularly if you're looking to get closer and deepen your relationships with Sims.

How to access and use Social Bunny

Social Bunny is available via your Phone at the bottom left corner of the screen. Once you click on your phone you will see nine different apps. Click the second one, a pink app with a picture of a bunny and love heart on it. This is Social Bunny.

Once on Social Bunny, you'll see three different headings. These are Feed, Friends, and Messages. Above these headings are other features, such as New Post and Tag Sim. We've explained what all of these mean, and their function below.

  • Feed - This is where all of the social media activity happens. All of your friends (who you can add to your Friend list in the Friends section) posts are featured on the Feed section.
  • Friends - You can add other Sims you've met to your Contact aka Friends List. Here you'll be able to message them directly, as well as remove them from your list if they prove to be too much of a hassle.
  • Messages - This will show you both messages that you receive and send. You can also create new messages with the New Messages tab.

sims 4 high school years homework

  • New Post - When using this feature, Sims must have had something eventful happen to them, otherwise they won't be able to post. For Teens this could mean travelling home from school, having a crush on someone, doing homework, and more.
  • Tag Sim - When tagging a Sim, this message goes directly to your Feed but is about a specific Sim. This can increase or decrease your relationship, depending on what sort of message you send.

How to gain followers on Social Bunny

Because Social Bunny isn't like Simstagram, you'll have to gain followers only by using that app. But how? It's actually much easier than it looks, but as always, it depends on how much you use the Social Bunny app.

The first step is posting a lot. This can be hard if your Sim hasn't done anything worth posting about, so get out there and make some memories! Once done, post, post and post!

The second and final stop is crucial: meet loads of people, add them to your contacts and tag them. These will go directlty to your feed, and will help others get to know you more, and as such, will increase your follower count.

Yet another app that can be used on your phone is pink app with glasses on called Trendi. Clicking on it will give you several options, such as buying clothes, checking followers, and a brief explanation on what Trendi is. But let us give you the too long, didn't read version: Trendi is a fashion app that lets you buy and sell clothes.

As for ThrifTea, that is the physical store that is only available in Copperdale. It's essentially a thrift store where you can physically try on outfits, buy them, and talk to the owner of the store to see which fashion trends is in right now.

the sims 4 trendi and thriftea

Fashion trends are huge and can be a make or break in popularity depending on what clothes you're wearing, but thankfully you can check what's trending via your phone. You don't want to stand out in a bad way, now do you? What trend is in right now - and what isn't - will be shown on the top right hand corner of your screen.

That said, in order to start your own Trend, you need to create an outfit - either in Thriftea or in Trendi - and hype it up. Once hyped, you may even see other Sims that you've never met before trying out your style.

the sims 4 trendi

Sims are also able to gift other Sims their Trendi purchases if they don't like what they've purchased online. And if they'd rather just get their money back, they can also sell on the outfit.

Puberty, we've all been through it and now with High School Years, our Sims are going to go through it too. That is, unless you decide to go into the Pack Settings in Game Options and disable those Acne and Body Changes... But where's the fun in that?

the sims 4 body and acne

Body changes and acne were already sort of included in The Sims 4 DLC Parenthood, however this time around these changes happen in a way that's much more natural. For example, your teen may go to sleep one night, and wake up the next day with their acne completely out of control. Thankfully, it's actually pretty easy to get rid of both pesky acne and unwanted body hair.

For your Sims acne, apply a facial cleanser and wash your face every day and eventually the acne will go away. As for your body hair, click on a shower or bath tub, and choose the option to trim your body hair or get rid of it completely, depending on your preference.

The Sims 4 High School Years expansion comes with its own school, situated in the world of Copperdale. This is the only school included in the game, and while it works fine as a template, it can feel rather empty. So, can you make your own high school, or improve it?

Yes! Not only can you make some improvements to the school of Copperdale - and its Auditorium - but make your very own school to fit whatever theme you're going for. You'll need a certain amount of desks, chairs, lockers, cafeteria's, etc, but as long as you have the selected number of items for your school, you'll be able to make your high school look however you want it to.

the sims 4 make your own school

Here are a handful of useful tips and tricks that'll make your time in high school one to remember!

  • New Social Interactions - You can now have a pillow fight with Sims, or talk to other Sims while sitting on a bed by interacting with any bed in your lot.
  • Party Animal Tricks - Sims with the Party Animal trait can perform tricks and chants. You need to click on the Sim and it will come with its own unique option.
  • Locker Time - You can choose your own locker by clicking on a locker and claiming it for your own. You can have different locker styles and designs as well, and even can prank other lockers too depending on your mischief level.
  • Review Schedule - If you click on your Sim and click on the High School tab, then 'Review Class Schedule', you can see what lessons you have that week and what skill it improves on (e.g writing, logic, music, etc)
  • Mess Around - There are several places you can 'Mess Around' added in this expansion pack. The Ferris Wheel, as well as the Cuddle Carts, in Copperdale, as well the new photo booths featured at Prom.

Hope you enjoy high school in The Sims 4!

How To Do Homework In The Sims 4

How To Do Homework In The Sims 4

Homework in The Sims 4 is an extracurricular activity that sim children and teens can do at home. To learn more about homework in The Sims 4 read on.

  • For more Sims 4 tips, read our guide on how to have twins in The Sims 4.

Homework in sim's inventory in The Sims 4

As your sim children and teens age up-they'll automatically receive homework in their inventories. Children receive yellow 'Grade School Homework' and teens receive blue 'Homework' books. The homework is individual to each sim, sims cannot do other sim's homework for them. If you lose the book around the neighbourhood, you can purchase another set of homework for your child through the 'buy books' menu on a bookcase or PC.

To do homework simply click on it in your inventory and select 'Do Homework'. The activity will take longer if your sim is in a bad mood. You can speed up the interaction if you get an adult sim to 'Help with Homework' by interacting with the sim whilst it is working. After completing the homework, you can interact with it again to complete 'Extra Credit Homework' for additional gain.

How To Improve Grades In The Sims 4

Parents helping with a school project in The Sims 4

Doing Homework is an easy way of ensuring your child improves their grades. School works in a very similar way to sim careers in the fact that homework acts as an extra activity you can do to boost performance.

To boost performance, you can also ensure that your sim goes to school in a good mood with their needs all met and choosing the 'Work Hard' option on their icon picture whilst attending class. You can also raise a child's skills to increase performance. Skills include mental, motor, creativity and social.

Children can sometimes come home with a school project if you have The Sims 4: Parenthood installed. If this is the case, you'll receive a notification that they have received a project from school. Projects range from making volcano displays to castles and other dioramas. These are a good way of boosting your sim child's grade as well as boosting skill gain. The project will perform even better if you get a parent to help the child with the project. Projects can also be bought from the build and buy mode if you wish to help your child's grade along faster.

If the child's grade starts to fall, it will trigger an interaction where the principal will ring the child to discuss their failing grades. The child's grades will also suffer if they choose to skip school. This can be done by simply cancelling the interaction for them to go to school in the morning. They may also get a pop-up from a classmate asking them to skip school if you have The Sims 4: Parenthood installed.

The Sims 4: High School Years - How To Pass Exams

In The Sims 4: High School Years, teens are required to take weekly exams over what they've learned, so here's how to ace them every time.

The Sims 4: High School Years added tons more gameplay for teenage Sims, including a new interactive high school experience. Players can follow their Sims to school, attend classes, use the gym, and make friends. Each class increases a different Skill, and at the end of the week, they must take exams.

Related: The Sims 4: Part-Time Job Guide

Exams play a role in the overall grade and progress meter; if Sims don't prepare for them, they will fail them. In addition, repeatedly failing exams makes it hard for Sims to increase their grade, which can lead to negative moodlets, failing and dropping out, or even expulsion. However, there are a few ways Sims can ensure they can take their exams stress-free and earn top-notch scores. This guide covers how to study for and pass exams in The Sims 4: High School Years .

How To Study For High School Exams

At the start of a school week, students receive their class schedule, including what Skills they will be working on and what day exams take place. The interactive school day consists of morning free time, first period, lunch, and last period. Exams are every Friday, and there are two in total, one for each class period. While they will have their daily homework, just like in the base game, Sims will also receive a notebook where they keep all their notes from class.

To study for high school exams using their notebook, click on a teen Sim, a computer, or a bookshelf and find the "High School.." menu. When it opens up, select "Study for Exam." This takes Sims anywhere from thirty in-game minutes to an hour. Whenever they can't study anymore for that exam using their personal notes, the option will be grayed out. Players can do this during the school day or at home at any point.

Sims also have the option to attend the study prep that takes place after school every Wednesday in Classroom 2. This option is only available if players choose to go with their teen Sim to school. After the last bell, find the correct classroom and click on the whiteboard to participate in the study class. If players have their Sims do both kinds of studying, they will be fully prepared to take their exams.

How To Take High School Exams

Exams will take place regardless if players go with their teens or if they send them alone. Sims will take them automatically if they go to school alone and will receive their results at the end of the day. If players are with their Sims, they must ensure they are in class during the exam. Courses and exams last one in-game hour, so if Sims don't make it in time, they will fail by default .

While they should automatically start the exam, Sims can sometimes be difficult and get up to do something else. If this happens, click on the whiteboard and select "Take Exam." Players will see the results when they finish and can check their overall grade from the Job tab at the bottom right side of the screen.

The Sims 4: High School Years is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The Sims 4 High School Years: How To Survive High School

Here's everything to know to make it through your high school years in The Sims 4.

Quick Links

Copperdale high: your schoolday, going to prom, socialising: apps and activities.

In The Sims 4 High School Years, all work and no play makes you a dull Sim. Part of the fun of getting to experience high school with your Sims is the chance to balance exam prep, become head cheerleader, and grow a thriving fashion empire - all whilst still under your parents' roof.

Related: The Sims 4: Teenage Aspirations, Explained

However, there's more to a school than simply stink-bombing the class bully. From plucking up the courage to ask your crush out on a date, to win a medal at Football Sports Day, here's your guide to surviving Copperdale High.

Pick up those pencils and notebooks, because class is in session.

From nine in the morning to half past three in the afternoon, your teen Sims will be heading off to Copperdale High School for a day of learning and mischief. Should you choose to accompany them, you'll be stepping off the school bus and onto the quad in no time. Welcome to your first day of school!

A normal day will consist of some free time in the morning followed by a morning class . Afterward will be lunch recess, which lasts just over two hours - plenty of time to finish that late homework before you get stuck into your afternoon class .

Try to attend every class you can! Not only will your Sim build valuable skills which will be carried into adulthood, but getting caught skipping class will see your grades take a nose dive. Also, you're sure to get slapped with a hefty detention summons. Good luck explaining that to your coach.

Sometimes, you'll have special activities during school hours such as:

  • Careers Day: professionals come to chat with students about prospective jobs. Attending this and completing objectives at Careers Day will give your Sim a strong Confident moodlet.
  • Sports Day: On different days, the Cheerleading and Football teams will hold activities in the quad where you can compete against your peers for medals. Those with higher Fitness skills tend to do best here!
  • Fire Drill: In the middle of class, don't be surprised if a fire engine pulls up outside as the student start trickling out. Participating in fire drills will help kick your Sim into action should any fires break out on their lot in the future!
  • Exams: On Friday, you'll sit your final exams in the place of your afternoon lesson. Be sure not to skip this one - it could mean the difference between passing and expulsion!
  • After-School Activities : Whether you're a footballer, cheerleader, computer geek, or chess guru, there's something for everyone in Copperdale's comprehensive extra-curricular roster.

At the end of each week (unless it coincides with a Holiday, for those of us with the Seasons expansion pack ), your Sim has the opportunity to attend Prom with their crush or with a friend.

Promposals And Sentiments

You can craft a promposal sign to present to your crush, asking them to the Prom with you the fancy way if words simply won't cut it. Be warned that even though you may have a Crush sentiment toward a fellow student, it might not be reciprocated.

Try to ascertain their romantic and mess around interests before you profess your undying love, or you might be left out in the cold. When in doubt, it might be wiser to ask them as a friend rather than as a date.

When you get to Prom, be sure to submit your vote for Prom Royalty before snagging yourself some punch. A Prom Queen, King, or Jester may be chosen, so if you want to be up there getting crowned before the entire school you're going to have to be relatively popular on campus.

And hey, even if you don't get chosen, there's still plenty of time to dance the night away - and, of course, hit the after-party.

Skipping Prom

If streamers and spiked punch aren't your bags, you can always scrap Prom entirely. Select a Sim of your choice and choose the 'Promise To Skip Prom Together' option from the Friendly interactions menu. This will show up in your partner in crime's information panel when you check your relationship status.

When Prom rolls around, be sure to select the 'Skip Prom' option to avoid letting down your bestie.

Because Prom is like, so lame.

There's more to life than good hair and good grades. If you're looking to kill time between classes or on weekends, High School Years comes with a host of killer activities to ensure that your Sim is never bored.

Social Bunny and Trendii

Social Bunny is the social media application everyone has in The Sims 4. Through it, you can interact with classmates by tagging them in posts or sending them direct messages. Your tone can be flirty, friendly, or even mean - it all depends on how you want your relationship to progress.

Use Trendii to browse and sell hot new outfits as purchased from the second-hand store, Thrift-Tea, which doubles as a boba tea shop. This is a great place to hang out after school with friends, allowing you to check out the newest trends to find a style that best fits your Sim's personality.

If you're hoping to take your passion for fashion to stratospheric heights as a Simfluencer , try hyping your outfits up to fashion-forward buddies and gauge their reactions. Positive responses have real-time effects on hot trends, so you never know: your threads could end up the topic on everyone's lips in just a few short days!

Goofing Off At School

On the first day of school, be sure to claim your locker and let the games begin!

Sims with at least Level One Mischief can interact with their classmates' lockers, planting stink bombs to catch their unsuspecting marks off-guard. You can even design your locker to suit your aesthetic, from grunge to kawaii and beyond.

Once your Mischief level is high enough, you'll be able to spread some nasty urban legends on campus. To mess with your friends, click on the 'Discuss Urban Legend' option from the Mischief interactions menu. Be careful though - legends aren't always as harmless as they seem .

If you see a Sim standing around with their arms splayed, be sure to ask them what T Posing is. They will explain it as a silly viral trend on Social Bunny, and next time you see someone performing the T Pose Challenge your Sim will be able to join them! What better way to infuriate your normie teachers than with an obscure social media joke they'll never understand?

Hanging Out At The Fairgrounds

Overlooking the sapphire waters of Copperdale is Plumbite Pier , complete with a ferris wheel, haunted house, and tunnel of love. Meet friends here and grab some ice cream before mooching off down to the riverside hangout - now that's a chilled weekend.

You can even sneak out past curfew if you're lucky enough to be invited to a party with your friends. To sneak outside past curfew, be sure that you have an open window on the lot to sneak out from, or just wait until your folks are fast asleep before creeping out through the front door.

Successfully sneaking out grants positive moodlets, whilst getting caught will make your Sim Angry, Embarrassed, or just plain grounded.

Class is in Session in The Sims™ 4 High School Years Expansion Pack

Live the Ultimate Teen Experience on Your Own Terms

[The PA system crackles as it turns on and the principal starts their morning announcement.]

Good morning, students and faculty of Copperdale High! Welcome back to another adventure-filled school year. For those of you that are new to our school and town, we’re excited to have you joining our dear community! Once renowned for its booming mining industry, Copperdale is a small town nestled on the banks of Lake LaSuli where you can truly live out your teenage dreams, explore your identity, and test boundaries through choices and growth.

We are so proud of our community creators and the seven lots they built in Copperdale, including  MsGryphi , who built ThrifTea–the thrift store and local boba hangout,  xfreezerbunnyx , who built the library, and  JOL1990 , who built the high school principal’s old money mansion.

We’ll be giving tours of the school and town after the final bell today, and all are welcome to join.

Here’s to all the memories we’ll be making together this school year.

Go Copperdale Womp Womps!

Carving Your Own Path in High School

Copperdale High is the center of your teen Sims’ world. Inside these halls, Sims participate in everything that makes high school such a formative time in life, from building lifelong friendships, to selecting our favorite extracurricular activities and graduating into adulthood.

During school hours, Sims attend class, hang out with friends, have lunch in the cafeteria, take weekly exams, and hopefully avoid being scolded by the principal who patrols the halls! After school, students can participate in activities like football, cheerleading, chess, and computer clubs, go to events like the science fair, or head home to their poster-filled bedroom to complete their homework.

In terms of extracurriculars, teen Sims can join an after-school club or team like football or cheer, practice these skill related activities, participate in competitions, and experience the highs and lows of winning and losing alongside your teammates.

You’ll even have the opportunity to navigate through the challenges and joys of young love, whether it’s the blissfulness of the crush stage, or the woes of a teenage breakup. A word of advice: Plumbite Pier is the perfect date spot! There is an amusement park with a haunted house, tunnel of love, a ferris wheel, and a photobooth for memories!

Explore Your Teen Identity

Teen years and high school are the launching points for self-discovery. Creating even more ways for Sims to explore their identities, a free base game update will go live alongside the release of High School Years, introducing an additional new feature that will add more choice and opportunity for discovery to your Sims’ lives.

The free base game update will also introduce body hair. For those with the High School Years Expansion Pack, Sims will be able to groom and trim their body hair’s natural growth over time, celebrating that transition through puberty.

You can learn more about the new base game updates coming to The Sims 4 on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11am PDT on  Twitch  and YouTube.

Express Your Creativity With Pranks and Style!

What is high school without a little mischief? In High School Years, discover an all new mischievous side to your teen Sims as they pull pranks. Mark up the whiteboard, leave a stink capsule in your classmate’s locker, or mess with the school’s PA system, but don’t get caught! Successfully pranking other Sims will increase your mischief skill, but being discovered will have consequences on relationships, as well as lead to trust issues.

Back at home, you can make your teen Sim’s bedroom an oasis that fully reflects their personality and style, as unique as they are. Teen Sims can hang out in the bedrooms, with Sims now able to sit crossed-legged on the bed together and have pillow fights. Need to sneak out of the house after curfew? Sims can exit the house via The E window and trellis ladder, and climb down the side of a house.

Fashion is the ultimate form of self-expression, and has always been a huge part of The Sims. As part of The Sims 4 High School Years Expansion Pack, your Sim’s fashion options are growing even larger via a collaboration with  Depop , the circular fashion marketplace app where the next generation comes to discover unique items. Sims can discover clothing items designed by real-world Depop sellers  Jeremy Salazar ,  Sha’an d’Anthes ,  Selena Williams  and  Bella McFadden  in-game at the local thrift store and boba hangout, ThrifTea, and earn Simoleons by selling outfits they curate and hype on the new in-game Trendi app and become a “Simfluencer” in the process.

Take pictures of your Sims’ new outfits at the mural from artist  Monica Ahanonu , displayed on the side of ThrifTea, drawing inspiration from The Sims x Depop collaboration.

Star Quarterbacks, Prom Queens and Valedictorians

It wouldn’t be a true high school adventure without prom and graduation.

Perhaps the most nerve-wracking yet exciting night of a teen Sims’ high school years is prom. You’ll be able to customize every aspect of your Sim’s prom, beginning with prom preparation and the event itself. Sims can go solo, ask someone to the prom,  go with friends, or skip out altogether. From there, players can dive into the details including creating and presenting a promposal sign, selecting outfits, having friends over to get ready, and voting for prom royalty. Players can also plan out their dance routines, music, snacks, and more. How a Sim prepares for and participates in prom will impact their relationships going forward!

And then, of course, the high school experience culminates with graduation, the ceremony bookending a Sim’s time at Copperdale High. It’s a chance to celebrate with friends and family, and welcome in the next stage of life. Sims can prepare before the main event by inviting guests, deciding their outfit, and acquiring gifts for friends and teachers. All the decisions your Sim has made throughout their high school journey will impact how their graduation plays out. Sims can choose whether or not they attend, but they won’t be invited to graduate if their grades don’t meet the mark!

No matter how you choose to live out your High School Years in The Sims 4, there are no wrong answers. Unless it’s a test you forgot to study for.

Sims 4 High School Years expansion pack review - hormones, homework, and horsing around

Teenagers scare the living Sims outta me.

A Sim strutting down High School hallways

Published: 03 Aug 2022 1:00 PM +00:00 Updated: 03 Aug 2022 12:44 PM +00:00

School may be out for the summer, but class is still in session in EA’s latest Sims 4 expansion pack. Retailing for £34.99, High School Years adds to every aspect of the game, bringing new events, clothing, families, and a new world. But is it worth such a high price?

The pack feels modern and adds a welcome breath of fresh content as we’ve never actually seen inside a Sims school before, let alone been able to control and follow younger Sims during their day-to-day lives. Careers that are currently popular today are taken into account, and more than ever before, teens are given accurate activities and feelings.

Now to get into the nitty-gritty of High School Years and what it contains, from the clothing and furniture to gameplay and new mechanics.

Different styles of outfit in The Sims 4 High School Years

Table of Contents

The edge of sim-teen, i was a teenage sim, the sim next door, high school never ends, school’s out for an evening, dance the night away, a new beginning, 10 things i hate about sims.

Let’s be honest, everyone’s favourite part of a Sims expansion is the Sim-centric customisation. In this respect, High School Years does not disappoint. High school is a time of experimenting and dressing how you want to, and so there are different styles to mix and match, with a few statement pieces thrown in - the fashion included in the pack is, obviously, very youthful.

The clothing features a lot of patterns and textures, from fishnet to mesh to studded denim and beyond. Layering is a big theme with the clothes too, and a lot of the accessories and trims are reminiscent of the late 90s and early 2000s fashion - be that a good thing or a bad thing. There’s a clothing collab with Depop , too, though these pieces only have one swatch as they were created with specific designers.

High School Years adds more than just clothing. There’s a new ‘Teen’ Aspiration, that can dictate how your young Sim progresses and what they want from life. This can be coupled with three new traits; socially awkward, party animal, and over-achiever. Each of these will give your teens constant moodlets according to what they’re doing. The other big addition is body hair, and the fact it grows and requires upkeep. It can be turned off, but if not, Sims will have the option to shave it off, or to a required length on arms, legs, and faces. The body hair is actually a base-game update, but the growth is specific to High School Years, weirdly.

Different swatches in The Sims 4 High School Years

High School Years’ main focus is definitely its aesthetics, and that has worked out great for build and buy mode as well as create-a-Sim. There’s everything you could possibly need to completely deck out your teenager’s rooms in their own style.

The pack brings ten new beds, with five designs available in single and double options. These are unfortunately not very comfortable, so can give Sims negative moodlets, but they at least look good. On top of sleeping apparatus, there are heaps of new clutter items like books and clothes to make rooms look properly lived in. The winner of the buy mode options is the wall art options - most change shape and size with each swatch, not just the colour! You can get a periodic table, gothic designs, video game posters, or anime-inspired designs. For me, this was the highlight as some wall decorations in previous packs feel a little flat.

The vast majority of the swatches for the new furniture errs on the more pastel, with a lot of pinks, floral, and delicate patterns. In terms of different or darker decor, there are maybe two swatches that would fit any sporty, rocker, or even geeky room themes. This pertains to the school’s items too - the swatches available don’t reflect what comes to mind when I think school, and there aren’t many options. Does any school in real life have gold lockers and bright green masonry?

Something that needs mentioning is the eagerly awaited ‘sneak-out’ window. We see it in the trailer with Molly Prescott sneaking out of her bedroom at night, but the window isn’t on her house in the game. It isn’t on any of the new houses, nor can you fit it on them and have it work without doing some serious renovation. It was actually a challenge to find where the window could work. And then there’s the trellis. The ladder option, despite looking the same, is not the item that works with it. You need the buy mode trellis that comes in different sizes. I could not get this to work, no matter the building shape. You also need to wait for your Sim to get an invite to hang out to actually use it, and if you’re under a curfew, you can’t use it anyway. The one time I did try and get someone to sneak out, my Sim just walked out of the front door, so take that how you will.

The Sims 4 High School Years building - Copperdale High

Like other expansion packs, High School Years adds a new world to Sims 4. The sleepy, post-industrial town of Copperdale is home to the high school, new shops, and new families that we saw in the trailer.

There are 11 new lots in Copperdale: one empty plot, two vacant houses, three occupied lots, a library, park, ThrifTea, and of course the high school and auditorium. ThrifTea, a bubble tea and thrift store combo, is a cool place for younger Sims to come to, and hang out without their parents looming over them. The cosy vibes are on point. You can only build the two together though, as the lot category is specifically a ‘thrift store and bubble tea’ area.

The school and auditorium are locked to their specific lots, though they can be rebuilt and modified. This does make sense as the school and auditorium lots are right next to a sports field with bleachers and stands (which you can’t sit on, sadly), so wouldn’t work in any other location. They're also locked to Copperdale, meaning you can only have one school per save file.

As well as the contained lots, there is Plumbite Pier, a funfair by the sea with social amenities. The rides are rabbit holes, and there are a lot of buildings that are just for show. Still, the area is a unique addition from what we’ve seen in other worlds and can serve as a post-Prom hangout spot for our darling teens.

A deceased teacher in The Sims 4 High School Years

And now, the main event. Or, what should be the main event if it wasn’t overshadowed by almost everything else: the school day. In High School Years, you can choose to accompany your teens at school. You begin the day with some free time, then head to your first class. There’s a lunch break, a second class, and then any after-school activities you may have - including detention.

You don’t get to choose which classes or subjects you take, and there is sadly no interaction with lessons. You rock up, sit down, and listen for a while. Woe betide you if you lag behind: you can very easily get caught ‘out of lesson’. Three of these incursions and you’re expelled. The kicker is, the school that comes with the game is huge. Like, absurdly big, and empty. It takes way too much in-game time to walk around, which leads to more warnings and detentions. My unsolicited advice for playing this pack is to rebuild and restructure the school as soon as possible so that it is easier to use, focusing on the cafeteria, lest your Sims do what mine did and congregate around the lunch lady dropping their food every two minutes.

Cafeteria kerfuffle in High School Years

If you chose an over-achiever trait, school is even harder. These Sims will become tense at the slightest inconvenience, which can hinder your performance and actively remove some tasks you give them due to the bad mood. My over-achiever Sim wanted to take an exam. She had it lined up. But it disappeared due to her tense mood, and she went off to go and study in another room, thus failing the exam AND getting an out-of-class warning. Some other players have reported that it is easier to let Sims get on with it, and not control them during the day, and I have to agree.

There is fun to be had, though. Friendships are made during lunch, and Sims can break up the day by playing pranks on the boards, lockers, and PA systems. By the way, if your Sim is particularly mischievous, do be careful. There are two new deaths in the High School Years pack, and both are specifically linked to the pranks you can pull. I’ll let you find them out for yourself…

Inside ThrifTea

Once that end-of-day bell rings at 3 PM, the world is your oyster. Or not, if you get detention. There are four after-school activities you can join or two new side-hustle careers. Or you could forge your way as a Trendi clothing reseller to make some cash on the side. The streamer and influencer careers have hours that take place outside of school time, allowing Sims to do both. You can’t have a career and join a club, though - it’s one or the other despite no overlapping times.

The activities on offer are chess club, computer club, football, or cheer. These take place from 3.30-5.30 PM on various weekdays, but detention or exam prep sessions can cut into them and affect your performance. Joining a club will raise Sims’ skills, and get them some extra friends.

If your Sim prefers the less stressful life, then they can hang out at ThrifTea, or spend their evenings scrolling Social Bunny, the new social media app that comes with the expansion. It allows Sims to post statuses, sometimes aimed at one another, and you can build a separate relationship with others on it. Like real social media, it is addictive: I found myself caring more about the Social Bunny responses than the follower count for my side hustle.

Sims going to prom in High School Years

Now, I’m not from the US, so I don’t have a fixation with prom - but I get that it is a pivotal event in any American teen’s school career. Sims takes this to the extreme, as there is a prom every Saturday night in summer. These are skippable, and I get that there are so many to prevent players from missing it, but it still feels a little much.

The event itself is a good time. You head to the auditorium dressed to the nines with your date (if you have one) and can go and boogie down with your cohorts. Grab a drink, grab some food, and goof around in the photo booth. Your Sims can vote for the Prom Royalty and the Jester, which get announced almost halfway through the event. That’s kind of the only big thing involved - other than that, you can get invited to an after-party at Plumbite Pier, or just head home to sleep off the effects of the punch.

A Sim graduating in High School Years

Another pivotal event for us and our Sims is the high school graduation ceremony. Sims will be able to graduate when they age up to young adults and will have the ceremony pencilled in for the next Sunday night. This can get covered on the calendar if something else is going on, though.

The ceremony is at the auditorium, and to attend, you need to click ‘Go to Event’ on the calendar. This is odd given that every other outing in High School Years has an automatic pop-up. Once there, you spawn outside the auditorium and can hang around for a while before the speech starts. Only when you walk inside will your Sim change into their cap and gown. The graduation itself isn’t a goal-led event, you’re just prompted with notifications to sit down, and then your Sim will automatically go and get their diploma when their name is called. There are no tasks given to complete, and after you walk off stage… you’re done. There’s minimal fanfare and no options for a party. It felt a bit too realistic.

oh dear

This segues well into my next topic: issues and drawbacks within the expansion pack. Any big update to a game is sure to end up with glitches and bugs, but High School Years seems to have quite a few. Granted, some are caused by the base game update, so I’ve omitted anything involving curved walls and incest - research these at your own peril.

As far as the new mechanics go, it feels like aesthetics come first, and actual gameplay comes second. There’s no real downside or discipline to dropping out or getting bad grades other than a bad mood for your Sim. Likewise, there are no positives that come from graduating - sure, Sims are pleased, but there’s no party or event. The fact that after-school activities and the rides at the fairground are rabbit holes doesn’t help this feeling, either.

My game featured some spectacular issues while playing the pack, from Sims dancing with nothing (as evidenced above), to two layers of music playing during live mode, and strange textures on some furniture items. Social Bunny froze my game once or twice, and my school day was ruined when a teacher died and students couldn’t continue and got detention through no fault of their own.

Despite what may seem like an overwhelming amount of issues, this pack is good. The new experiences and day-to-day life that teen Sims get drastically improve their existence in the game. The cosmetic items, careers, and communal lots benefit every age of Sim and can be used across a lot of different builds and family types.

High School Years adds features I'm surprised weren't standard to Sims 4, such as body hair growth and social-centric traits. This pack is a must for anyone who is a fan of gameplay reminiscent of real life, and those who prefer families and Sims of all ages. However, for a title so established as The Sims, packs should be perfect before they are released, and High School Years is another example of that sadly not being the case.

School in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 High School Years Class Schedule Explained

Image of Kristina Ebanez

After years of many fans asking for a more intricate school experience, the High School Years pack has finally launched an interactive educational system. Find out what this new class schedule is in The Sims 4 and other things you can do around campus.

Class Schedule in Sims 4: High School Years Explained

For the first time, the franchise has a class schedule that players must follow in the High School Years . Like the Get to Work pack, you must complete a set of objectives throughout the day to advance further in this new adventure. However, this version has a strict timeline and will result in Detention if you don’t consistently attend class.

Here is a breakdown of what your Sim’s school schedule will look like:

  • 8 a.m. – Go to school
  • 10 a.m. – First Period
  • 11 a.m. – Lunch Period
  • 2 p.m. – Second Period
  • 3 p.m. – End of school

When you first get to school in The Sims 4 , you’ll have a free period to do whatever you want for two hours, such as claiming your locker, talking to your classmates, or having a quick workout before class begins. If you aren’t sure what to do, you can look at the top left corner to fulfill the minor quests for the day.

School in The Sims 4

Once the bell rings, make sure you head to Classroom 1, the designated room for your teenager at campus. These classes only last for an hour, and your Sim can learn new skills in multiple subjects like Art (Painting), Business (Charisma), Foreign Language (Charisma), Computer Science (Programming), Social Studies (Writing), and more. You can also review your class schedule by clicking on your Sim and pressing the ‘High School…’ option, where you’ll get a complete overview of your week in the top right corner.

Class Schedule

After the first period ends, you can explore High School Year’s Copperdale High and get lunch in the Cafeteria. From then on, you’ll go to the next class and complete your school day.

But even though school is over, you’ll still have a lot of things to do, including preparing for prom, finishing your homework, and after-school activities . Although, it is essential that you complete your assignment each day, or else you won’t excel in your educational journey.

Keep in mind that players must prepare for the weekly Friday Exams by either going to the Faculty Study Sessions on Wednesday (Classroom 2) or studying from your notes. Those who want to be rebel Sims can also prank others around the school and skip out on class, but make sure the principal doesn’t catch you.

All these options you can do in The Sims 4 High School Years will eventually lead you to the Graduation ceremony, where you can earn a High School Diploma and potentially receive the Honors or Valedictorian Honors title.

Hopefully, this guide gives you a better explanation of what the class schedule is in The Sims 4 High School Years . While you are here, you can look at more content about the game by checking out the relevant links below and viewing our news article about the latest update .

Their reputation will be increased if they perform better academically and attend proms. However, if they get expelled, they will get publicly disgraced. Obsessed fans & Paparazzi will stalk Celebrity Sims in class. Teachers and the headmaster/headmistress will kick them out.
  • This pack allows Sims to be controlled while inside the school building. In all previous games, schools were either off-screen occurrences [ TS1 ] [ TS2 ] or a rabbit hole . [ TS3 ]
  • A few of the clothing items in this pack were designed by sellers from the fashion marketplace app Depop. [3]
  • The song featured in the official reveal trailer is Sad Disco by mxmtoon.
  • This pack is the only game for The Sims 4 to feature a carpool , that being the school bus which is parked outside the high school. However, it is simply a decoration and Sims cannot drive or travel inside it.

EVERY SINGLE OBJECT IN: The Sims 4 High School Years

buildmode

So many objects and so many styles in High School Years’ Build Mode!

The Sims 4 High School Years comes with over 260 new Build/Buy objects, including the four preorder bonus objects. Just as with the CAS catalogue, the Build/Buy catalogue in this expansion is not limited to one particular theme. Instead, the catalogue caters to a wide array of styles to suit the unique personalities of teenagers. You’ll find everything from boho-themed stuff to princess-style furnishings and sleek, modern styles. There really is something for everyone in this pack.

Patterns are everywhere in this selection so players who are fond of bright colours and patterns will be very happy with a lot of these objects.

Some particularly interesting objects to note are the modular shelving, separated hanging clothes, vending machines, and buffet table with drink fountains. All of these things have previously come with other packs. Modular shelving and separated clothes came with Dream Home Decorator, Vending machines came with Snowy Escape, and the buffet table and drink fountain have been seen in both Luxury Party Stuff and My Wedding Stories. Players who do not own these packs will get to enjoy these objects in High School Years.

The pack is also very poster and wall-hanging heavy, with lots of varied swatches for the wall décor. This is great to see, as it will help us personalise our teens’ rooms in a way that actually fits a teenager’s sense of décor.
