Below is a basic script( not one of my own motivational speeches) that will build momentum in the school year

Motivational Speech for Educators

As we kick off the new year, many of you come here will new enthusiasm, excitement, and energy.

Every new year you stand in front of your classroom, and you ask, how am I going to take this group from where they are to where they need to be?

Because every student deserves a great education. However, building people up takes energy, Building people up takes passion and grit. Building people up takes determination.

We've heard all of this before, and if you say it long enough, and if you say it with passion- people start to believe it.

Many days you come to work when you don't feel like it -but you fake the enthusiasm and muster the energy anyways. Because you won't let your students down.

Teaching requires passion and joy . We know passion is contagious; Energy is contagious, Ambition is contagious.

We are grateful for the positive motivation you bring to each school year.

The most valuable thing we have is time and attention. If time is the most valuable and precious thing we have, it's also the most precious thing we can give. Every day you give that to a student, a student that may not get much of anyone's time or attention.

Today students spend too much time on technology, instead of connecting and building real relationships.

However, when you talk about a world of instant gratification, there’s a problem with it.

If you grow up in a world where you are instantly gratified to do what you want to do, a lot of things that build success don’t require that.

Now we need to teach students delayed gratification, because If you don’t sacrifice for something you don’t value it.

One of the most important things we bring to the classroom is the work ethic. Are we working harder? Are we getting better?

Let’s teach students to solve problems , instead of looking for opportunities.

This year, let's bring the energy, passion, and determination back to our school. Students deserve the best education they can get, and we are prepared to give it to them.

So, let’s start crafting a speech that shows our teachers just how much they mean to us.

Practical tips for crafting an effective Best Teacher’s Day Speech

Teachers are the backbone of our society, nurturing and molding young minds to become responsible and productive members of society. As such, it is important to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication that they put into their profession. One of the most effective ways to do so is by delivering a heartfelt and memorable Teachers’ Day Speech.

Crafting a good Teachers’ Day Speech can seem daunting, but with the right mindset and approach, anyone can deliver a speech that resonates with their audience.

Here are some practical tips to help you write the best Teachers’ Day Speech:

Start with Preparation

Before you start writing your speech, take some time to gather your thoughts and prepare an outline. Identify the key points that you want to cover and the message you want to convey. It is important to have a clear idea of what you want to say and how you want to say it.

Organise the Speech

It is essential to organize your speech to ensure that it flows logically and is easy to follow. Start with an introduction that captures the audience’s attention, briefly introduce yourself and the purpose of the speech. In the body of the speech, express your gratitude, highlight your teacher’s contributions, and share personal anecdotes. In the conclusion, summarise your thoughts and reiterate your appreciation.

Duration of the Speech

When delivering a Teachers’ Day speech, it is crucial to keep it brief and to the point. An ideal Teachers’ Day speech should not exceed 10 minutes. This ensures that your speech is engaging and memorable, without being too long and tedious.

Express your gratitude to your teacher for their dedication, hard work, and contribution towards your growth and development. Highlight specific examples of how your teacher has impacted your life, both academically and personally.

Do Not Exaggerate

While it’s essential to acknowledge your teacher’s efforts, it’s crucial not to exaggerate. Be sincere and truthful in your speech, and avoid making false statements or claims.

Do Not Undermine the Purpose of the Speech

Keep in mind the purpose of the Teachers’ Day speech – to express your gratitude and appreciation. Avoid any negative comments or criticisms and stay focused on the positive aspects.

Dedicate Your Thoughts

When crafting your Teachers’ Day speech, take the time to reflect on your teacher’s impact on your life. Dedicate your thoughts and emotions to ensure that your speech is authentic and heartfelt.

Incorporate Humor and Emotion

Incorporating humor and emotion into your speech can make it more engaging and memorable. Use personal anecdotes, metaphors, and analogies to make your speech relatable and impactful. However, ensure that the humor is appropriate and does not undermine the purpose of the speech.

Use Personal Anecdotes

A good speech is one that connects with the audience on a personal level. Share personal anecdotes or stories that showcase the impact that teachers have had on your life. This will help you establish an emotional connection with your audience and make your speech more memorable.

Be Unconventional

While there are some standard conventions for a Teachers’ Day Speech, don’t be afraid to break the mold and try something new. Perhaps you can incorporate a poem, a song, or a visual aid to make your speech more memorable.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Once you have written your speech, practice delivering it multiple times. This will help you become more comfortable with the material and ensure that you deliver a polished and confident speech.

By following these tips and incorporating your own unique style, you can craft a speech that celebrates and honors the hard work and dedication of teachers everywhere. Remember to speak from the heart, and your message will resonate with your audience for years to come.

After guiding your child to write a well-crafted Teachers’ Day Speech, the next step is to help them practice and deliver it with confidence. Here are some tips to ensure your child’s speech is not only impressive but also emotionally touching:

  • Practice, Practice, Practice: Encourage your child to rehearse their speech in front of a mirror or with family and friends. This will help them overcome stage fright and build their confidence.
  • Focus on Intonation and Voice Modulation: The tone of voice and modulation can make or break a speech. Encourage your child to practice speaking in a clear, confident, and emotive tone. Teach them to emphasize important words, phrases, and expressions to make their speech more impactful.
  • Maintain a Moderate Rate of Speech: Your child should speak at a pace that is neither too fast nor too slow. Speaking too fast may cause the audience to miss important points, while speaking too slowly can make the speech boring and uninteresting.
  • Use a Pleasing Pitch: Your child’s pitch should be pleasing to the ear. Teach them to speak with a tone that is neither too high nor too low. This will make their speech more engaging and interesting to listen to.
  • Engage the Audience with Presentation: Encourage your child to use appropriate gestures and body language to complement their speech. This will help them connect with the audience and keep them engaged throughout the speech.
  • Maintain Eye Contact: Your child should maintain eye contact with the audience while delivering their speech. This will make them appear confident and sincere.

By following these tips, your child can deliver an impressive and touching speech that will leave their teachers feeling appreciated and valued.

I stand before you today with a heart full of gratitude and a mind filled with memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Today, on Teacher’s Day, I would like to take a moment to thank all the wonderful teachers who have helped shape me into the person I am today.

I have been lucky enough to have many great teachers throughout my academic journey, but I would like to specifically thank two teachers who have had a profound impact on my life. The first is my primary school teacher, Mrs. Smith, who not only taught me how to read and

write, but also how to be kind, compassionate and curious. She encouraged me to ask questions and explore the world around me, and for that I will always be grateful.

The second teacher I would like to thank is my high school English teacher, Mr. Johnson. He not only taught me the intricacies of literature and writing, but also taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and pushed me to strive for excellence.

But today is not just about thanking individual teachers, it is about acknowledging the tireless efforts of all teachers who work day in and day out to provide their students with the best possible education. Teaching is not an easy job, and yet they do it with dedication and passion.

On this Teacher’s Day, I urge all of us to remember the importance of teachers and the role they play in shaping our future. Let us not take them for granted and show them the respect and appreciation they deserve.

How to Prepare Your Child for the Speech

Preparing your child for a speech can be a daunting task, but with the right approach, it can be an enjoyable experience for both you and your child. Whether your child is giving a speech for a school assembly or a special occasion like Teacher’s Day, here are some tips to help them prepare and deliver an outstanding speech.

  • Start Early: It’s important to give your child enough time to prepare their speech. This will allow them to research the topic, organize their thoughts, and practice their delivery. Encourage your child to start working on their speech at least a week in advance.
  • Understand the Audience: Before your child starts writing their speech, it’s important to understand the audience they will be speaking to. This will help them tailor their speech to the interests and expectations of the listeners.
  • Practice, Practice, Practice: Once your child has written their speech, encourage them to practice it several times. This will help them feel more confident and comfortable with their delivery. You can also practice with them by giving feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Intonation and Voice Modulation: Encourage your child to practice their intonation and voice modulation. This will help them to add emphasis to important points and create a more engaging delivery. A monotone delivery can quickly lose the attention of the audience.
  • Moderate Rate of Speech: Encourage your child to speak at a moderate rate. Speaking too fast can cause the audience to lose track of what’s being said, while speaking too slow can cause them to lose interest.
  • Use Personal Anecdotes: Encourage your child to include personal anecdotes in their speech. This will help them connect with the audience on a deeper level and make their speech more memorable.
  • Incorporate Humor: Humor is a great way to engage the audience and make the speech more entertaining. Encourage your child to include appropriate humor in their speech.
  • Keep it Short and Simple: Encourage your child to keep their speech short and to the point. A long, rambling speech can quickly lose the interest of the audience.
  • Use Visual Aids: If appropriate, encourage your child to use visual aids to support their speech. This can include slides, pictures, or props that help to illustrate their points.
  • Be Confident: Finally, encourage your child to be confident in their delivery. Remind them that they have worked hard to prepare their speech and that they have important things to share with the audience. With the right preparation and mindset, your child can deliver a successful and memorable speech.
  • Encourage them to practice in front of a mirror: This will help them to work on their facial expressions and body language, which are important aspects of delivering a great speech.
  • Record their practice sessions: By recording their practice sessions, your child can listen to themselves and identify areas where they need to improve, such as intonation, pacing, or clarity.
  • Provide constructive feedback: When listening to your child’s practice sessions, be sure to offer constructive feedback that will help them improve their speech. Focus on specific areas where they can improve, and be sure to offer praise for what they’re doing well.
  • Help them to memorize the speech: While it’s not necessary for your child to memorize their entire speech, it’s a good idea for them to memorize the opening and closing lines, as well as any important points they want to make.
  • Practice with an audience: Encourage your child to practice their speech in front of a small audience, such as family members or close friends. This will help them to get used to speaking in front of others and build their confidence.
  • Remind them to breathe: Before your child begins their speech, remind them to take a deep breath and exhale slowly. This will help to calm their nerves and steady their voice.
  • Dress appropriately: Encourage your child to dress appropriately for the occasion. This will help them to feel confident and professional, which will shine through in their speech.

Remember, the most important thing is to help your child feel confident and prepared for their Teacher’s Day speech. With your guidance and support, they’ll be able to deliver a speech that is heartfelt, meaningful, and impactful.

Final Thoughts: Empower Your Child to Give an Unforgettable Speech on Teacher’s Day

As a parent, you may feel overwhelmed by the prospect of helping your child prepare a speech for Teacher’s Day. It’s natural to feel nervous about how your child will perform and how their teacher and peers will react.

But let me tell you this: you are not alone. Every parent wants their child to shine and make a positive impact, especially on such a special occasion as Teacher’s Day.

Perhaps you’re thinking, ‘But what if my child doesn’t have a natural talent for public speaking? What if they forget their lines or freeze on stage?’

First of all, it’s important to remember that every child is unique and has their own strengths and weaknesses. Some children may feel more comfortable speaking in front of an audience than others, but with the right guidance and practice, every child can improve their communication skills and deliver a meaningful speech.

Secondly, the benefits of helping your child prepare a speech for Teacher’s Day are immense. Not only will your child learn how to express their gratitude and appreciation for their teacher, but they will also gain valuable skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and creativity. They will feel more confident and empowered, and their teacher and peers will be inspired by their words.

So, don’t be afraid to embrace this opportunity and guide your child towards giving an unforgettable speech on Teacher’s Day. Use the tips and strategies outlined in this article, and remember to practice patience, kindness, and encouragement with your child.

I believe in you and your child, and I know that with your support, they will deliver a speech that will make you proud and leave a lasting impact on their teacher and classmates.

How to give a speech for teachers' day- a guide for students and teachers

A teachers’ day speech is a special occasion speech. It is a speech where you acknowledge your teachers, gurus or mentors for being an absolute human guide and encouraging you to dream. On this special day, you express your gratitude towards them, it can be in the form of a speech or stage performances.

‘When one teaches, two learn.’  Robert Heinlein

Teachers’ Day is that one event which not only excites the students, but the teachers as well. It is an important day for the students, as it gives them a chance to recognize the efforts put in by their teachers to ensure that they get proper education and ethics in life. Likewise, the teachers also await the Teachers’ Day celebration, as their efforts get acknowledged and honoured by their students.

But why is it important to celebrate Teachers’ Day?

Teaching is considered to be the most sacred and noble professions of all, as teachers are the ones to craft the other professions.

Teachers have the ability to change the students’ life for the better. Teaching is a tough job; however, it is that one job where you can make the optimum impact on another person’s life.

However, we often tend to forget the importance teachers have in our lives. So, on this day you make them realize how important they are in your life along with this you appreciate their existence, their efforts and their guidance.

How to appreciate your teachers or students in your teachers' day speech

Not only students, but teachers also express their views to the students because their profession is nothing without their students.

If you are looking for tips on how you can draft a heart touching speech for teachers’ day, don’t worry we’ve got some suggestions for you (teacher or student).

But remember, the only key to give a heartwarming speech is Authenticity.

importance of being authentic or genuine in your teachers' day speech

Tips to Remember Before you Draft your Teachers’ Day Speech:

1)  appreciate, do not exaggerate.

When you give a speech on occasions like teachers’ day, it demands you to be authentic while sharing your experiences or showing gratitude. Being authentic will help you make your speech pure and impressive at the same time.

Try to articulate your feelings in the simplest form which will make your speech sound genuine.

Exaggeration in a speech might make you lose your credibility, making it sound unreal.

In case of students giving a speech for their teachers, you can appreciate their efforts, praise them, or the way in which they helped you garner knowledge, improve your skills, grow confidence as well as to help you choose the right path to success.

In short, when thinking about the best way to thank your teacher/s, consider what exceptional they did or above their call of duty? How did they inspire you or change your thinking? Did they inspire some new academic avocation or activity? What skills will you hold dear in future?

You are basically trying to acknowledge the efforts that your teachers have put in. So try and make your acknowledgement sound genuine and speak from your heart and not just for the sake of saying it.

In case of teachers giving a speech on teachers’ day, you can talk more on the lines of how your students have been motivating you or how happy you are to see their efforts to do better everyday, for instance, showing their interests in the extracurricular activities or competitions.

Pro tip- Do not overdo it, for instance over praising your teachers or students, the listeners will understand it is not coming from your heart.

2) Dedicate your Thoughts

The speaker should be expressive about one’s emotions. Your speech is dedicated to the event of Teachers’ day, so everything you speak has to support the event.

For students giving a speech on teachers’ day, the speaker can dedicate the speech mainly to acknowledge his teachers, communicate gratitude towards them and applaud them for being a beacon of light in their lives.

For teachers giving a speech on teachers’ day, you can talk more about why it is celebrated, the importance of a teacher in a student’s life, what motivates you to be a teacher.

3) The PURPOSE should be at the Heart of your Speech

One thing you need to bear in your mind is the purpose of your speech. Purpose means, why is the speech drafted or for what are you drafting the speech.

For instance, in case of students , the speech is drafted for your teachers in order to pay them a tribute or acknowledge their efforts.

Similarly, in case of teachers , your speech is drafted for the students as well the fellow teachers, so your purpose of talking would be the joy you experience while teaching or guiding your students or expressing your gratitude for the efforts the students have taken to make your day special.

Therefore, your speech needs to revolve much around teachers’ day, so that you don’t deviate from the purpose of your speech.

4) Duration of the Speech

The goal of any speaker is to make his speech memorable and at the same time the one which has a long-lasting impact.

While drafting your speech, try to keep it short and sweet, as it is more likely to hold your audiences’ attention. It also forces you to say what you mean and nothing more. Meaning, you will cover only those points that are central to your message or speech.

Stick to your topic and then draft your speech accordingly – use as few words as possible and limited anecdotes to retain your audiences’ attention without sacrificing the essential information.

Make sure the points you want to make come out clearly.

We’ve written an article on How to Deliver a 1 Minute Speech: Tips, Examples, Topics & More . Check it out to get some tips on how you can deliver a short speech.

After keeping in mind these few suggestions, the next step would be to organize your content, so that your speech flows smoothly.

Here’s an article on How to make your speech flow smoothly . You can review this article to get a better understanding regarding the same.

In order to give a clear and a structured speech, your speech needs to be divided into three parts, mainly- Introduction, Body and Conclusion.

How to Organize your Teachers’ Day Speech?

1) introduction.

An introduction can be best considered as the foundation of your speech. Just as you can’t build a building without forming its base, you cannot build your speech until and unless you don’t introduce your topic.

Introducing your topic will help you gain the audiences’ attention because you’re revealing the purpose of you standing in front of them.

The goal is to start your speech with impact and to do this, you can start by telling a story or a quote, or by asking an interesting question.

Here’s an article that we’ve written on various storytelling approaches that you can consider for your next speech.

You can start your speech with, say like a story or a quote and then connect it to the occasion of Teachers’ day or teachers in general.

For instance, a student can start his speech with a hypothetical situation, supposing a life without a teacher and then connect it to being thankful for having them in your life as torch bearers.

A teacher can start her speech by expressing her gratitude towards the program that has been organized for them along with a few lines regarding why is teachers’ day celebrated

To start your speech with a bang, you can review the article that we wrote on 15 powerful speech opening lines and how to create your own.

After choosing an impactful opening remark, the next part would be the body of your speech.

Oftentimes, more importance is given to the opening and closing remarks and everything in between is considered to be filler. This should not be the case because the body of a speech is where you offer the evidence or data to support your main message.

Taking the previous example in case of students , you can actually start expressing your gratitude towards them, recognize their efforts, explain their importance in your life, and much more.

In case of teachers , you can build your speech on the basis of how your students motivate you or how you feel about teaching as a profession, or what joy you experience while teaching.

3) Conclusion

The conclusion of your speech should restate your main message.

You basically summarize the main points of your speech which will help you to create a long-lasting impression in the minds of your audience.

You can end your speech in much the same way you began- with a story, quotation, or a question.

In case of students ending their Teachers’ day speech, you can thank your teachers for being an essential part of your journey.

In case of teachers ending their Teachers’ day speech, they can provide a bunch of advice to their students.

We have a few suggestions or tips on Ways to end your speech with maximum impact .

To make this simple, here are some points that you can cover while drafting your speech.

4 Points Students can cover in their Teachers’ Day Speech :

  • Teacher’s importance in your life
  • Acknowledge their efforts that they have put in for you
  • You can highlight the significance of teachers’ day
  • Express your gratitude towards them

Education without teachers is like a body without a soul.  “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instill a love of learning” , says Brad Henry. Let’s pick the first keyword over here – ‘HOPE’. A teacher is capable of returning the lost light in a student’s life. Therefore, teachers are the torch bearers who show us the path of success and walk us through the entire path until we achieve something. Today we all have gathered here to celebrate the presence of those unsung heroes without whom no profession would have existed, our teachers. It is said that parents give birth to a child, but it is the Teacher who makes sure that the child is not only raised as a tough individual, but also as an ideal citizen. We students have sometimes made it so difficult for a teacher to survive, especially if we personally find a subject boring, but it is the teacher who has made us learn a lesson which is To Never Give Up. Even if we are disrespectful, intolerant, and sometimes cross all our limits of being bearable, she still continues to motivate us.  What a teacher writes on the blackboard of life can never be erased. The values, the skills and the life lessons taught by them are something we all will hold dear in our lives. You are the reason behind our dreams and our farsightedness. You have prepared us to become the fittest and the finest individuals. Without your presence we wouldn’t have learnt how to dream. Thank you for guiding us when we were wrong and being on your toes to get the best out of us, we all are very grateful to have you all as our teachers. I would like to conclude my speech through a short poem called Teachers by Kevin William Huff that summarizes the role of a teacher in a student’s life. Teachers Inspire a love of knowledge and truth As you light the path which leads our youth For our future brightens with each lesson your teach Each smile you lengthen Each goal you help reach For the dawn of each poet, each philosopher and king Begins with a teacher And the wisdom they bring

“There’s no word in the language I revere more than teacher. My heart sings when a kid refers to me as his teacher, and it always has. I’ve honored myself and the entire family of man by becoming a teacher.”  —Pat Conroy, Author It is said that Teachers have got their designation because of the existence of students, who are taught lessons for life. Welcoming the Principal, my fellow teachers and my dear students. It gives me immense pleasure to thank each and every student present here for putting up such a lovely program. We teachers feel highly privileged to have students like you all, so I would like to dedicate this day to all our students. Teaching for me is one of those careers, where you learn something new every day as well as impart knowledge and skills to train individuals and make them ready to face the real world. We really appreciate all the support that you’ve been giving us over the years and continuously reminding us about the value of our work and our potential to impact your lives for the greater good. In short, your support helps us remain mindful of our ultimate purpose and hold on to the passion that fuels our fire.  This special day reminds me of my own gurus and their impact on my life. I remember one of my teachers telling me this, “Beyond the undone and unseen lies the unachieved.” Meaning, to do something that nobody has done or seen and that’s when you will achieve what nobody has. To achieve something extraordinary you need to conquer the 3 D’s- Desire, Determination and Discipline.  Desire means being passionate about something you love.  Determination refers to being dedicated towards something that you are passionate about. Discipline refers to practicing what you are determined about. As teachers, we strongly believe it is our key responsibility to dig in the foundation to construct pillars of great strength. And I truly appreciate the efforts all the teachers have been putting in so as to achieve this. Before I sign off for the day I would like to give you all a piece of advice. Each one of you is different, each one of you has a different caliber, challenge yourself and chase your dreams. There will be a time in your life when you might fail, but don’t give up. Your success lies without your level of patience. Do great for the society and help everyone possible. Never take your profession on your head because at first, you have to be a good human before becoming a good professional. Hence, I proudly say teaching for me is sacred and I revere teaching as a profession.

A good speech in school will earn you the admiration of your teachers and peers alike. You probably won't deliver the kind of speech you hear in the movies, but that's a good thing: people will enjoy your original take much more. From getting an idea to conquering stage fright, here are the steps to take if you want to make your final speech a memorable, exciting success.

Sample Speeches

Writing the Speech

Step 1 Choose a topic or theme.

  • If you're not sure which theme to choose, write down or summarize a few stories and statements you could include in your speech. Pick the ones you like best and see if there's a unifying theme to tie them together.
  • See What to Do and What Not to Do for more advice on themes.

Step 2 Pick a tone that makes you comfortable.

  • Don't interrupt one point with a clause, or section set aside by commas or parentheses. Instead of saying "Our tennis and basketball teams, which we all know won the regional championships two years ago, need increased funding to compete," say "Our tennis and basketball teams both won the regional championships two years ago. Now we need to increase their funding to compete with other schools."
  • You can reference your school's slang once or twice to get a laugh, but don't overdo it, especially if there are parents in the audience.

Step 4 Write down original stories and messages.

  • Find a broad message that your whole audience can connect to their own life, but still deals with a specific idea. For instance: "Become an even better version of the hero who inspired you." (But don't steal your "original" idea from this website!)
  • Your stories can be specific incidents in your life or from history, but you should connect them to a more general idea. For instance, you could tell a story about your sibling's hospital visit, then go on to talk about overcoming fear and hardship in general.
  • If you like what you're writing but it doesn't fit the theme you had planned, it's fine to adjust your topic or switch it entirely. Switch back and forth between writing stories and brainstorming a theme if you keep getting stuck.

Step 5 Find a gripping way to begin your speech.

  • Surprise your audience by diving right into a tough story. "When I was ten years old, I lost my father."
  • Make your audience laugh by telling a joke, especially one that everyone in the room will get. "Hello everyone. Let's have a round of applause for the guy who installed air conditioning."
  • Start with a grand, thought-provoking statement. "Our galaxy contains billions of earth-like planets, and we're only just beginning to discover them."
  • Most likely, someone else will introduce you, and many of your classmates know you already. Unless you're asked specifically to introduce yourself, you can get right to the good stuff.

Step 6 Make the theme clear.

  • To use an example from earlier, if your theme is "Become an even better version of the hero who inspired you," you could begin your speech with two or three sentence about your hero, then say "You all have heroes who inspire you, but you don't have to just follow them. You can become even greater than the people you look up to."

Step 7 Move from one idea to the next in a natural order.

  • Include phrases such as "Now I'd like to talk about..." and "But we should also remember..." when moving on to your next idea.

Step 8 End with a memorable statement that captures your speech.

  • Build up to a big ending, then crack a joke to wrap up a funny speech. "And I know when you walk to the ballot box tomorrow, you'll be ready to do the right thing. Protect the interests of yourself and your school by washing your hands afterward. Do you know how many people touch that thing?"
  • If you're giving a commencement speech, leave people feeling excited or awed about the future. This is a big moment and you have the power to help them realize it. "Years from now, you will be the father or mother your kid looks up to. The writer who changes the way we think. The inventor who creates new ways to live. Come up to the stage and start becoming heroes!"

Step 9 Edit and polish it as much as possible.

  • Have a teacher, family member, or trusted friend check it over for grammar mistakes and offer feedback. Spelling isn't as important, since you'll be speaking out loud.

Step 10 Consider visual aids.

  • If your topic involves a lot of numbers, plan to write them on the board so your audience can remember them

Step 11 Turn the speech into note cards, then practice!

  • Your notes are there to remind you what to say next and of important facts. "Move on to bear wrestling story (guy's name is Paul Bunyan)" is the level of detail you need.

Practicing and Delivering the Speech

Step 1 Think about movement and materials.

  • Practice giving your speech in as situation as similar to your actual speech as possible.
  • In general, you should stay fairly still while giving a speech. Small hand gestures and occasionally moving to a new spot are fine, especially if they help you feel and appear confident

Step 2 Practice speaking loudly and clearly.

  • If you speech is too long, you absolutely need to cut some material out of it or shorten the longer stories or ideas. If you're giving a commencement speech, aim for a 10 or 15 minute maximum. An election speech should be no more than a few minutes, and your teacher should be able to tell you the time limit for a class assignment speech.

Step 4 Talk slowly and pause between ideas.

  • If you can't stop rushing, work out how long you should spend on each section and write the number of minutes at the top of each index card or paragraph. Practice near a clock so you can check whether you're on pace.

Step 5 Deliver your speech to a mirror until you can do it without reading.

  • Use slightly different words each time once you have the main ideas down. Try not to get caught up on exact memorization; using a new phrase to communicate the written idea makes your speech sound more natural.

Step 6 Pay attention to other details once you become comfortable with the content.

  • Practice varying your facial expression if your face looks fixed and mechanical.
  • Try to vary the tone of your voice as well. Don't make it sound like you're reciting every word from memory; pretend you're speaking in ordinary conversation.

Step 7 Practice in front of a test audience.

  • Try to make eye contact with different members of your audience throughout the speech. Don't stare at any one person for too long.
  • Resist the temptation to hide by standing near a corner or large object.
  • Don't fidget, tap your foot, or make other nervous gestures. Try slowly walking back and forth across the stage to get rid of your nervous energy.

Step 8 Use their feedback to practice more.

  • Dressing nicely will increase your confidence and gain respect and attention from your audience.

What to Do and What Not to Do

Step 1 Choose an appropriate theme (for an election speech).

  • Memories your class shares and personal memories that many people will connect to, such as your first day at the school.
  • Overcoming obstacles. Talk about how your classmates overcame problems related to academics, finances, and health, and how proud everyone is that they're standing here.
  • The diversity of your classmates and celebrating the rich variety of experiences, personalities, and interests at your school. Describe some of the many ways people will go on to do good in the world.

Step 3 Use techniques to make your speech more memorable.

  • Address your audience directly. Ask them questions to get them thinking, although you shouldn't expect an answer.
  • Use groups of three. The human brain loves repetition, and especially trios. Start three sentences with the same phrase, speaking louder each sentence.
  • Use emotive language. Try to provoke a strong emotional response in your audience, not present a list of facts to them.

Step 4 Thank specific people, but don't go on too long.

  • Don't tell stories that only a few friends will understand. Even references that your whole class will get should be used sparingly if there are parents in the room as well.

Step 6 Avoid clichés.

  • Go change the world!
  • Today is not the last day of your education, but the first.
  • The future belongs to you.
  • If elected, I will be the voice of the students.
  • It's time for change!

Step 7 Don't insult or offend anyone.

  • If you're giving a high school commencement speech, remember that not everyone in your class will be attending college. Don't joke about your education letting you avoid a "bad" profession; chances are good there's a parent who has that job out in the audience.=

Teachers’ Day is a special occasion where we express our gratitude and appreciation for the invaluable contributions of educators in shaping our lives. Delivering a heartfelt speech is a wonderful way to honor teachers on this significant day. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive guide on how to write an inspiring speech for Teachers’ Day, highlighting key elements such as understanding the audience, structuring the speech, incorporating personal anecdotes, expressing gratitude, and delivering a memorable conclusion.

Table of Contents

Understanding the Audience

Before you begin writing your Teachers’ Day speech, it is crucial to understand your audience. Consider the diverse group of teachers who will be present, ranging from seasoned educators to newly appointed teachers. Acknowledge their dedication, passion, and the challenges they face in their noble profession. Tailor your speech to resonate with their experiences and aspirations, ensuring that your words create a sense of unity and appreciation among the educators.

Structuring the Speech

An organized structure is essential for an effective speech. Begin with a warm introduction, capturing the attention of your audience. Provide a brief overview of the significance of Teachers’ Day and the purpose of your speech. Transition into the main body, divided into several key points. Each point should focus on a specific aspect, such as the impact of teachers on students’ lives, the transformative power of education, or the importance of continuous learning. Use clear and concise language, and support your points with relevant examples or anecdotes. Finally, conclude your speech by summarizing the key ideas and reinforcing the message of appreciation and gratitude.

Incorporating Personal Anecdotes

Personal anecdotes add a touch of authenticity and emotional connection to your speech. Share your own experiences as a student and highlight the teachers who have made a lasting impact on your life. Recall specific moments or instances that exemplify their dedication, compassion, or innovative teaching methods. By sharing these personal stories, you not only honor the teachers who have influenced you but also inspire others to reflect on their own experiences with educators. Remember to maintain a balance between personal anecdotes and broader messages that resonate with the entire audience.

Expressing Gratitude

Teachers’ Day is an opportune time to express heartfelt gratitude. Take a moment to acknowledge the hard work, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment demonstrated by teachers. Reflect on the challenges they face, including the demanding nature of their profession and their role in shaping future generations. Express appreciation for their guidance, patience, and belief in their students’ potential. Consider incorporating quotes, poems, or excerpts from famous speeches that exemplify the impact of teachers on society. Be sincere and genuine in your expressions of gratitude, as it will resonate deeply with your audience.

Delivering a Memorable Conclusion

A powerful conclusion leaves a lasting impression on your audience. Summarize the key points of your speech, emphasizing the significance of teachers and their role as catalysts for change. Inspire your audience with a call to action, encouraging them to continue making a difference in the lives of students. Conclude with a heartfelt thank you, expressing gratitude once again for the dedication and passion exhibited by teachers. Consider ending with a memorable quote or a thought-provoking statement that encapsulates the essence of your speech.

A Teacher’s Role

While some people think it’s easy, the role of a teacher is very challenging and equally important. It is their responsibility to impart the correct knowledge and in the right manner. They have to teach methodically for which they prepare their lessons beforehand. Thus, they are able to motivate their students through the use of accurate techniques.

A good teacher gives homework to their students also checks it regularly for a better practice. Further, they plan meticulously for a better teaching pattern. At the beginning of the year, they plan the whole syllabus out for a smooth teaching experience.

In addition to teaching, a teacher is also a good organizer. They have to organize various activities that take place in school throughout the year. Further, they have to take care of other little yet important things, like the seating arrangement, classroom activities and more.

Moreover, they also supervise a lot of tasks and activities in school. For instance, attendance, homework, behaviour is also supervised by teachers. They are responsible for maintaining the discipline and decorum of the students.

Most importantly, they guide the students every step of the way. They have to make sure they do not favour a specific student and give equal attention to all. In fact, teachers have to decide how they divide the attention towards students who need it more than others.

Thus, it is fair to say that our teachers are the ones who make this world a better place. They make this world a better place by enhancing student’s lives. Moreover, teachers are the ones who play the role of so many people in a child’s life. They are a mentor, a parent, a friend, and more which makes all the difference in one’s life.

Speech On Teachers - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

Teachers significantly shape the future of students. They are the ones who teach us about everything crucial from kindergarten to tertiary education. They also impart moral values to us and teach us about ethical principles.

A World Without Teachers

A world without educators would undoubtedly be disordered. For their students, they take on the role of mentor. They occasionally turn into our buddies and support us in dealing with our issues. They will assist you in improving yourself and your knowledge.

Additionally, they recognise their children's potential when no one else does. As they are in charge of the youth, teachers also determine the fate of a country. The nation's future will undoubtedly be promising if the youth are educated and informed.

Teachers encourage the childrens to succeed and reach higher goals. As a result, only with a teacher's aid do they become scientists, doctors, lawyers, pilots, and more. Even in India, on September 5th of each year, we commemorate teachers with a holiday called Teacher's Day.

They clear the way and let the kids pick their own routes so they can grow into their best selves in the future.

Role Of Teachers

"I believe there is no other profession in the world that is more vital to society than that of a teacher," as Dr Abdul Kalam would have remarked.

Despite what some people may believe, teaching is a challenging yet crucial profession. It is their duty to teach the proper information correctly. They have to impart knowledge methodically; therefore, they plan their lessons. As a result, they can inspire their students by employing effective methods. An excellent teacher assigns homework to their childrens and constantly reviews it for improved practice. They also carefully develop a superior teaching strategy. For a seamless teaching experience, the entire syllabus is planned out before the start of the school year.

Importance of Teachers

A teacher is an excellent organiser in addition to being a skilled instructor. They have to plan a variety of events that take place at school all year long. Additionally, they must take care of other details like the seating arrangement, academic activities, etc. Additionally, they oversee numerous responsibilities and activities at school. Teachers oversee things like behaviour, schoolwork, and attendance. They are in charge of preserving the childrens' order and decency.

They lead the childrens at every turn, which is the most crucial thing. They must offer each child the same amount of attention to avoid favouritism. Teachers must choose how to allocate their time to students who require it more than others. In light of this, our professors are responsible for improving the world. By enhancing students' lives, they contribute to a better world. Furthermore, teachers fill the roles of many different persons in a child's life. They play various roles in a person's life, including mentor, father, friend, and more.

My Favourite Teacher

I have always been blessed with excellent teachers throughout my school life. They were extremely helpful and generous towards the students. My favourite teacher was Gargi Ma'am. She was our chemistry teacher.. Because of her, I love chemistry, and today I am studying chemistry honours. She always helped me with chemistry labs as well as projects. She always motivated me whenever I needed help to get good marks or had a tough time.

Under her guidance, I did a project for my final year. We won the first prize as my project was outstanding! Without her help and knowledge, it would not have been possible. Her vast knowledge about the subject and humbleness always fascinated me. I hope every student gets one teacher like her in their education life. Teachers are truly a blessing in disguise for everyone.

Society is powerless to compensate teachers for their services. Teachers are not merely there to lead us. All we can do in this situation is treat them with the utmost respect. We would not be where we are now without them. They have served as our true superheroes for all these years. They have always provided solid support and direction as we go through our experiences.

Speech on Teachers

The role of a teacher in a child’s life is crucial. Being a teacher is a great responsibility as the present and future of children are in their hands. What children become is a result of all the lessons a child takes from the very beginning. This article will help you understand the part teachers play in the life of an individual and also give you examples of speeches about teachers.

Table of Contents

Role of a teacher, short speech on teachers, speech on the importance of teachers, faqs on teachers.

Teachers are the ones who open the minds of the young ones to the world. They impart knowledge and show them what matters the most. Teachers have a lot of students to take care of, and they all look the same in the eyes of a teacher; whereas, the same teacher can appeal to each student differently. They make an impact on their lives and change them for the good.

The influence a teacher has on their students is huge. No matter what, a student always looks up to the teacher for help and guidance. Teachers are like second parents. Teachers have a fair share in the moulding of a child from the time the child is around 4 to 5 years old. So it is important that children have good teachers who could make them intellectually, emotionally and morally sound and strong.

‘A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others’, says Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Teaching has always been considered as a noble profession. No good teacher looks for their own success and endeavour; they always have their students’ present and future in mind. When one chooses to be a teacher, it is understood that a number of qualities are embodied in that individual.

A teacher is looked upon as a guide, a mentor, a friend and a selfless abode of love and care. No matter how young or old a teacher is, they consider their students as their own children. The influence of a teacher extends beyond the classroom. The best teachers tell their students where to look but don’t tell them what to see, according to Alexandra K Trenfor. Teachers let their light shine bright even on the darkest roads so that the little ones do not lose track of their destination. You are everything a teacher should be. To the world, you may be just another teacher, but to us, you are our hero. We respect you for what you have been doing for us all through these years. We know we are not the best students, but you are the best teacher we could ever ask for. Thank you for accepting us for who we are and for loving us as much.

Teachers play a pivotal role in the life of each and every student. A teacher need not be perfect, but a teacher ought to be knowledgeable so as to provide the students with the right information and considerate so as to be able to try and understand every little child. Teachers are often a source of inspiration. There are children who follow the footsteps of their teachers. A good teacher is like a treasure that has to be cherished and valued.

Joyce Meyer said, “Teachers can change lives with just the right mix of chalk and challenges”. It is true that as teachers, they always chalk out the right direction and overcome the challenges on the way. Teachers can do more than just guide. They pave the way and let the children choose their own paths to become the best version of themselves in the future.

Why are teachers important in our life?

Teachers impart knowledge and guide us in the right directions. Our life would definitely not be the same without dedicated teachers who selflessly work in order to make our lives better.

How do you end a speech?

There are numerous ways in which you can end your speech. You can simply sum up and conclude, use a quote that sums up the whole idea of the speech, motivate everyone listening to you to join in with you to make a difference and so on.

What is the best speech for a teacher?

If you are thinking about what would be the best thing to say when you are asked to speak about your teacher, here is a tip. You can share your experiences about your teachers and thank them for all that they have done for you.

Speech on Respecting Teacher

Teachers are the guiding stars of your life. They help you grow, learn, and become the best version of yourself.

It’s essential to respect them. Why? Because respect is the first step towards understanding and appreciating their hard work and dedication.

1-minute Speech on Respecting Teacher

Good day, everyone!

Let’s talk about something important today, about respecting our teachers. But why should we respect our teachers? The answer is simple. They are the ones who guide us, help us learn new things, and make us better humans.

Think of your favorite book, game, or movie. There’s always a hero, right? But behind that hero, there’s always someone who teaches them, someone who helps them become a hero. That’s what our teachers do for us. They are our guides in the journey of life, helping us become the best we can be.

Respecting our teachers is not only about saying ‘good morning’ or ‘good afternoon’. It’s about listening to them, learning from them, and appreciating their hard work. It’s about saying ‘thank you’ when they help us and saying ‘sorry’ when we make a mistake.

But why does this matter? When we respect our teachers, we create a happy and positive environment. In this environment, we can learn better and grow faster. We also learn to respect others and understand their value in our lives.

Respecting our teachers also teaches us about responsibility. We learn that our actions have consequences, and we need to be careful about what we do and say. This helps us become more responsible and mature.

To conclude, respecting our teachers is about valuing their efforts, learning from them, and creating a positive environment. It’s about becoming better humans and making the world a better place.

So, let’s make a promise today. Let’s promise to respect our teachers and appreciate what they do for us. Because without them, we wouldn’t be who we are today. Thank you!

2-minute Speech on Respecting Teacher

Let’s talk about something important. Let’s talk about respecting teachers. Why is it so crucial? Let’s get into it.

Teachers are like the sun. Just like the sun lights up the world, teachers light up our minds. They fill us with knowledge, preparing us for life. They guide us when we’re lost, help us when we’re stuck. They help us grow from tiny saplings into mighty trees. For all these reasons and more, they deserve our respect.

Respecting our teachers means listening to them. We should pay attention when they’re talking, not interrupt them, and follow their instructions. This not only helps us learn better, but also shows them that we value their wisdom and experience. Imagine you’re telling a story and nobody’s listening. How would you feel? Probably not very good, right? That’s why we should always listen to our teachers.

But respect isn’t just about listening. It’s also about behavior. It means being polite and kind, saying “please” and “thank you”. It means not raising our voice or being rude. It means treating them the same way we would want to be treated. Remember, teachers are people too. They have feelings just like us.

Another way to respect teachers is by valuing their time. This means being punctual, doing our homework on time, and not wasting class time. Teachers work hard to plan lessons and help us learn. By being on time and ready to learn, we show them that we appreciate their effort.

Finally, respecting teachers means appreciating them. This doesn’t mean we have to buy them expensive gifts. A simple “thank you” or a note telling them how much they’ve helped us can mean a lot. After all, everyone likes to feel appreciated.

In conclusion, teachers are like the architects of our future. They play a crucial role in shaping our minds and our lives. Without them, we wouldn’t be who we are today. So let’s show them the respect they deserve. Not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because they’ve earned it. Let’s listen to them, behave well, value their time, and appreciate them. Because a world without teachers is like a sky without the sun. Dark and empty.

Thank you for your attention. Now let’s all go out there and show our teachers some respect!

But the question is, how do you make your speech more engaging? Especially when students have a high tendency of not listening and not minding when a speech is being delivered. How do you make a welcome speech that students will remember for the rest of the school year?

How to Write a Welcome Speech

Just to make things clear, a welcome speech is can also be used in any event that may be held in your school, it can be a graduation ceremony, pep rally, homecoming, etc. And it can be delivered by the principal, teacher and students alike.

Now to start your journey to writing a welcome speech, the first thing you need to do is write the opening of your speech. This includes a formal greeting to the audience and acknowledging the presence of guests, if any. You should start your speech in a warm and friendly welcoming gesture so that you audience can feel comfortable during the entire duration of your speech and programme. Should you wish to mention names of guests, be sure you include all of their names, it is quite rude to forget the name of the other guests.

After you write your short greeting, you can start introducing yourself to the audience. Introduce yourself especially when it is your first time to publicly address the audience, most importantly when your the new principal, teacher or student. You need to make sure your audience will be able to remember you after the speech. However, you need not to make your introduction lengthy, just mention your name, your position for example new principal, subject teacher, etc. and a short background about yourself. Just so your audience can feel like they know have known you for quite some time. You may also see tribute speech examples & samples.

Afterwards, you present a short background about the event or inform them on what’s about to happen this school year. This is where you share announcements and basically inform them the purpose of the whole event. On an instance when the speech is blasted through the PA system, make sure you inform the audience about the significance of a new academic year, inform them of upcoming activities and basically let the know of what’s to come in the next few days, weeks or months. However, make sure you emphasize the key point/s that is related to the event you are speaking on. You may also like thank-you speech examples & samples.

And since you’re already in the point of your speech where all the relevant and significant information you needed to share has been said, share encouraging words and help motivate your audience especially the students to give their best this academic year or the following. Encourage them to be the best version of themselves. However, do not pressure them, pressuring them is way different from motivating them. You can do this by giving successful examples of famous people or people that are also familiar to them. You may also check out dedication speech examples.

Lastly, you can send them off to do their activities and what not in an encouraging manner. You an do this by giving motivational quotes or by posting a challenge that they can do in order for them to feel energized and motivated. Remember to end you speech in a positive way. Some students already dread going to school, make sure you make them feel like school and studying is not a bad thing and that all the effort and sacrifices are all going to be worth it in the end. How to Deliver an Iconic Welcome Speech

When its you first time delivering a speech it can be quite nerve-wracking most especially when you are delivering it in front of people you know, you can feel fidgety and vulnerable which can affect your delivery. But do not fret, this guide will help you deliver an iconic welcome speech.

1. Research and prepare

Before anything else, you must be prepared. If you have been given the assignment of delivering a welcome speech weeks or even days before the event, you have enough time to do a research. If the event has some special guests, research about them especially if you intend to mention their names. Research on the purpose and objectives of the event, the theme that the event is applying, and everything else that you should know. This will prevent you from stuttering or blacking out since you already have a clear background about these important information. You may also see launch speech examples.

2. Write a draft

Writing a draft ensures that you have included all the information you need to deliver. It allows you to have a clear physical copy of what you’re going to say in your speech. this will also allow you to correct and replace some contents of the speech that you think are unnecessary. A draft can also help you structure your speech better since you can easily correct if you think the sequence of your contents are off. A draft can ensure that the flow of your speech is logical and comprehensive so that you audience can easily understand the purpose of your general speech.

3. Understand the purpose of your message

Before the audience, you must first understand why you’re making a speech. How can you convey a good message if you do not understand it? After you have written your draft, read and reread it, internalize and make sure you understand your objective so that you can effectively convey it to your audience. This will also help you feel confident with your speech and can great affect how well you deliver your speech. You may also like presentation speech examples & samples.

4. Familiarize your speech

You do not need to memorize you speech; memorizing the whole speech still has a high chance of you forgetting the words especially when your nervousness overcomes. Therefore, it is still better to familiarize your entire speech. This way when you read a specific word in your cue card you will immediately remember what comes next. This will also help you avoid juts reading through the the script the whole time while delivering the speech. Since you remember you cues, you can immediately deliver what’s next. You may also check out leadership speech examples & samples.

5. Practice beforehand

And the most important part of all of this is to practice, practice, practice. Practice delivering your speech in front of the mirror that way you can see the way deliver your speech. You can correct your posture, gestures and your habit of just reading. In addition, practicing your speech days before the event will also help you familiarize your speech better and you can detect if your voice quality and intonation is good or not. V. I. Lenin

Speech at the first all-russia congress of, workers in education and socialist culture, july 31, 1919 [1].

Comrades, it gives me great pleasure to greet your Congress in the name of the Council of People’s Commissars.

In the sphere of education we have long had to struggle against the same difficulties that Soviet power encounters in all spheres of work and in all spheres of organisation. We saw that organisations regarded as the only mass organisations were from the very outset headed by people who, for a lengthy period, were under the influence of bourgeois prejudices. In the first days of Soviet power, in October 1917, we even saw how the army swamped us in Petrograd with declarations to the effect that it did not recognise Soviet power, threatened to go against Petrograd and expressed solidarity with bourgeois governments. As long ago as that we were sure that these declarations came from the top people in these organisations, from the army committees of that time, who represented the past in the development of the moods, convictions and views of our army. The situation has since then repeated itself in all mass organisations—in respect of the railway proletariat, and again in respect of the post and telegraph employees. We have always noted that at first the past maintains its power and influence over mass organisations. We were, therefore, riot.at all surprised at the lengthy and stubborn struggle that went on among the school-teachers, the majority of whom, if not all, from the very beginning took a stand hostile to Soviet power. We saw how we gradually had to overcome bourgeois prejudices and how the school-teachers, who were closely connected with the workers and labouring peasantry, had to struggle against the former bourgeois system to win for themselves rights and to break a road to a genuine rapprochement with the working masses, to a genuine understanding of the nature of the socialist revolution that was under way. Until now you have had more than anybody else to deal with the old prejudices of the bourgeois intelligentsia, with their usual methods and arguments, with their defence of bourgeois or capitalist society, with their struggle, not usually direct but carried on under cover of some outwardly pleasant slogans which are advanced to defend capitalism in one way or another.

Comrades, you may remember how Marx describes the way the worker got to the modern capitalist factory, how he analysed the enslavement of the worker in a disciplined, cultured and "free" capitalist society, studied the causes of the oppression of labour by capital, how he approached the fundamentals of the production process, how he described the worker’s entry into a capitalist factory where the robbery of surplus-value takes place and the foundation of capitalist exploitation is laid down, where capitalist society is built, the society that gives riches to the few and holds the many in a state of oppression. When Marx reached this most significant, most fundamental place in his book—the analysis of capitalist exploitation—he accompanied his introduction to this analysis with the ironical remark that the place he was taking the reader to, the place where profit was extracted by the capitalists, was the place where liberty, equality and Bentham ruled. [2] By this Marx stressed the ideology up-held by the bourgeoisie in capitalist society and which they justify because from their point of view, from the point of view of the bourgeoisie who had won the fight against the feudals, "Liberty, Equality and Bentham" ruled in capitalist society which was based on the rule of money, the rule of capital and the exploitation of the working people. What they call liberty is liberty to make profit, liberty for the few to become rich, the liberty of the trade turnover; what they call equality is equality between capitalist, and worker; and the rule of Bentham is the rule of the petty-bourgeois prejudice about liberty and equality.

If we look around us, if we take a look at those arguments that were used in the struggle against us yesterday and which are being used today by members of the old teachers’ union and which we still meet with among our ideological opponents who call themselves socialists (the Socialist-Revolutionaries and Mensheviks), those arguments that we meet with in a not very conscious form in our day-to-day talks with the peasant masses who have not yet understood the significance of socialism—if you take a look at and give some thought to the ideological meaning of these arguments you will find the very same bourgeois motif that Marx stressed in Capital. All these people reiterate the catch-phrase that Liberty, Equality and Bentham rule in capitalist society. And when objections to us are raised from this point of view and it is said that we, the Bolsheviks and Soviet power, are contravening freedom and equality, we refer those who say so to the elements of political economy, to the basic doctrines of Marx. We maintain that the freedom you accuse the Bolsheviks of contravening is the freedom of capital, the freedom of an owner to sell grain on the open market, i.e., the freedom for the few to make profit, for those who have grain surpluses. That freedom of the press that the Bolsheviks have constantly been accused of having violated—what is this freedom of the press in a capitalist society? Everybody could see what the press was in our "free" Russia. This was seen to a still greater extent by people who were familiar with, have been able to observe closely or had had dealings with press affairs in the advanced capitalist countries. Freedom of the press in capitalist society means freedom to trade in publications and in their influence on the masses. Freedom of the press means that the press, a powerful medium for influencing the masses, is maintained at the expense of the capitalists. Such is the freedom of the press that the Bolsheviks violated and they are proud of having produced—the first press free of the capitalists, that in a gigantic country they have for the first time set up a press that does not depend on a handful of rich men and millionaires—a press that is devoted entirely to the struggle against capital, the struggle to which we must subordinate everything. Only the factory proletariat that is capable of leading the peasant masses that are not class-conscious can be the leader, the vanguard, of the working people in this struggle.

When we are reproached with having established a dictatorship of one party and, as you have heard, a united socialist front is proposed, we say, "Yes, it is a dictatorship of one party! This is what we stand for and we shall not shift from that position because it is the party that has won, in the course of decades, the position of vanguard of the entire factory and industrial proletariat. This party had won that position even before the revolution of 1905. It is the party that was at the head of the workers in 1905 and which since then—even at the time of the reaction after 1905 when the working-class movement was rehabilitated with such difficulty under the Stolypin Duma—merged with the working class and it alone could lead that class to a profound, fundamental change in the old society." When a united socialist front is proposed to us we say that it is the Socialist-Revolutionary and Menshevik parties that propose it, and that they have wavered in favour of the bourgeoisie throughout the revolution. We have had a double experience—the Kerensky period when the Socialist-Revolutionaries formed a coalition government that was helped by the Entente, that is, by the world bourgeoisie, the imperialists of France, America and Britain. What did that result in? Was there that gradual transition to socialism they had promised? No, there was collapse, the absolute rule of the imperialists, the rule of the bourgeoisie and the complete bankruptcy of all sorts of illusions about class conciliation.

If that experience is not enough, take Siberia. There we saw the same thing happen again. In Siberia the government was against the Bolsheviks. At the beginning the entire bourgeoisie who had fled from Soviet power came to the help of the Czechoslovak uprising and the uprising of time Socialist-Revolutionaries and Mensheviks. They were helped by the entire bourgeoisie and the capitalists of the most powerful countries of Europe and America; their aid was not merely ideological but financial and military aid as well. And what was the result? What came of this rule that was allegedly the rule of the Constituent Assembly, that allegedly democratic government of Socialist-Revolutionaries and Mensheviks? It led to the Kolchak gamble. Why did it lead to the collapse that we have witnessed? Because here we saw the effect of the basic truth, which the so-called socialists from the camp of our opponents do not want to understand, that there can be only one of two possible powers in capitalist society, either the power of the capitalists or the power of the proletariat, no matter whether that society is developing, is firmly on its feet, or is declining. Every middle-of-the-road power is a dream, and every attempt to set up something in between leads only to people, even if they are absolutely sincere, shifting to one side or the other. Only the power of the proletariat, only the rule of the workers can ally to itself the majority of those who work, because the peasant masses, although they constitute a mass of working people, are nevertheless to a certain extent the owners of their small properties, of their own grain. And that is the struggle that has unfolded before our eyes, the struggle which shows how the proletariat, in the course of lengthy political trials, during the changes in governments that we see in various places on the outskirts of Russia, is sweeping away everything that serves exploitation; it shows how the proletariat is breaking its own road and is becoming more and more the genuine, absolute leader of the masses of working people in suppressing and eliminating the resistance of capital.

Those who say that the Bolsheviks violate freedom and who propose the formation of a united socialist front, that is, an alliance with those who vacillated, and twice in the history of the Russian revolution went over to the side of the bourgeoisie—these people are very fond of accusing us of resorting to terror. They say that the Bolsheviks have introduced a system of terror in administration, and if Russia is to be saved, the Bolsheviks must renounce it. This reminds me of a witty French bourgeois who, in his bourgeois manner, said with reference to the abolition of the death penalty, "Let the murderers be the first to abolish the death penalty." I recall this when people say, "Let the Bolsheviks renounce the terror." Let the Russian capitalists and their allies, America, France and Britain, that is, those who first imposed terror on Soviet Russia, let them renounce it! They are the imperialists who attacked us and are still attacking its with all their military might, which is a thousand times greater than ours. Is it not terror for all the Entente countries, all the imperialists of Britain, France and America, to keep in their capitals servitors of international capital—whether their names are Sazonov or Maklakov—who have organised tens and hundreds of thousands of the dissatisfied, ruined, hum’iliated and indignant representatives of capital and the bourgeoisie? You must have heard about the plots among the military, you must have read about the latest plot in Krasnaya Gorka, which nearly led to the loss of Petrograd; what was this but a manifestation of terror on the part of the bourgeoisie of the whole world, which will commit any violence, crime and atrocity in order to reinstate the exploiters in Russia and stamp out the flames of the socialist revolution, which is now threatening even their own countries? There is the source of terror, that is where the responsibility lies! That is why we are sure that those who preach renunciation of terror in Russia are nothing but conscious, or unwitting, tools and agents of the imperialist terrorists, who are trying to crush Russia with their blockades and aid to Denikin and Kolchak. But their cause is a hopeless one.

Russia is the country assigned by history the role of trail-blazer of the socialist revolution, and that is just why so much struggle and suffering has fallen to our lot. The capitalists and imperialists of other countries realise that Russia is up in arms, and that the future not only of Russian but of international capital is being decided in Russia. That is why in all their press—in all the bourgeois world press which they have bribed with their many millions—they spread the most incredible slanders about the Bolsheviks.

They are attacking Russia in the name of the selfsame principles of "Liberty, Equality and Bentham". If you come across someone in this country who thinks that when he speaks of freedom and equality and of their violation by the Bolsheviks, he is championing something that is quite independent, the principles of democracy in general, ask him to have a look at the capitalist press of Europe. What is the screen being used by Denikin and Kolchak, what is the screen being used by European capitalists and the bourgeoisie in their efforts to crush Russia? Liberty and equality—that is all they talk about! When the Americans, British and French seized Archangel, when they sent their troops to the South, they did so in defence of liberty and equality. That is the kind of slogan they use as camouflage, and that is why the proletariat of Russia has risen against world capital in this fierce struggle. Such is the purpose of these slogans of freedom and equality which all agents of the bourgeoisie use to deceive the people, and which intellectuals who really side with the workers and peasants have to expose.

We see that as the attempts of the Entente imperialists become more desperate and vicious they meet with ever greater resistance on the part of the proletariat of their own countries. The first attempt at an international strike by workers in Britain, France and Italy against their governments that was made on July 21 had as its slogan, "Hands off Russia, and an honest peace with the Republic". This strike failed. Separate strikes broke out in Britain, France and Italy. In America and Canada, everything that looks like Bolshevism is fiercely persecuted. In the last few years, we have gone through two great revolutions. We know how hard it was for the vanguard of the Russian working people in 1905 to rise in the struggle against tsarism. We know that after the first bloody lesson of January 9, 1905, the strike, movement developed slowly and laboriously until October 1905, when the mass strike scored its first success in Russia. We know how hard the going was. This was proved by the experience of two revolutions, although the situation in Russia was more revolutionary than in other countries. We know with what difficulty the forces for the struggle against capitalism are mobilised in a series of strikes. That is why we are not surprised by the failure of this first international strike of July 21. We know that there is much greater resistance and opposition to the revolution in the European countries than over here. We know that in fixing July 21 as the date for an international strike, the workers of Britain, France and Italy had to overcome incredible difficulties. It was an experiment unparalleled in history. It is not surprising that it failed. But we also know that the working people of the leading and most civilised countries are on our side despite the European bourgeoisie’s rabid hatred of us, that they understand our cause, and whatever the hardships of the revolution and the trials ahead, whatever the atmosphere of lies and deception in the name of the "freedom and equality" of capital, equality of the starved and the overfed, whatever the atmosphere, we know that our cause is the cause of the workers of all countries, and that is why this cause will inevitably defeat international capital.

school teacher speech

An ORT informatics and technology teacher has just won the  Teacher of the Year Moscow 2018  competition.  Ignat Ignatov, who teaches ninth grade at Moscow ORT Technology School, received this distinction based on the results of the third stage of the city-wide contest, surpassing an initial 11,000 contenders, of whom 29 advanced after the first stage, followed by 10 teachers who advanced after the second level to become finalists.

“This is a great honor and responsibility,” Ignat said, adding, “This is a serious test.”  A young teacher with 3 years of pedagogical experience and 2 years of experience at the ORT school, Ignat speaks about his work.  “I’ve learned a lot.  We have an excellent team.  The children have the opportunity to realize their most challenging engineering ideas, from ‘the smart lighting system’ to ‘the copter to monitor the environmental situation.’

Teacher of the Year Moscow 2018 Competition

The competition, established in 2017 by the Moscow Department of Education, which publicized it throughout city schools, has four categories:  Teacher of the Year, Teacher-Psychologist of the Year, Pre-School Teacher of the Year, and Optional School Teacher of the Year .   Participants must have a higher education, at least two years of teaching experience, be certified for their position, and hold a full-time position corresponding to competition requirements.

For the first stage of the contest, teachers participated in a multi-subject Olympiad.  The second stage entailed delivering a speech entitled ‘I Am a Moscow Teacher,’ writing an essay entitled ‘Moscow School 2018,’ and presenting a concept in a video entitled ‘An Easy Talk About Complex Things.’  The third stage for the finalists was held March 24 to April 30 and involved teaching a master class, completing an educational project, and presenting experience and work results to a pedagogical council.

Ignat’s vision: new school projects and 3D modeling studio

Ignat is determined to develop his teaching, and has ideas for the future.  “My plans include the expansion of the 3D modeling studio; next year we will study more design programs. And I really want to study and create neural networks, and introduce this theme in school projects.”  Last year another staff member of Moscow ORT Technology School was a finalist, Tatiana Mansurova, a math teacher.

Having an ORT teacher win the Moscow Teacher of the Year award is a testament to the fact that ORT delivers quality instruction and offers a motivating environment for professional development, all part of the ORT mission of making an impact through education.

School leaders welcome proposal to tackle harassment of teachers

Creation of a ‘cohesion and conflict unit’ in England is among recommendations in government-commissioned review

School leaders have welcomed proposals for the creation of “a cohesion and conflict unit” to support teachers who face “freedom-restricting” threats and harassment during the course of their work.

It is one of a number of recommendations in a government-commissioned review into threats to social cohesion in England, which highlights the case of a religious studies teacher at a school in West Yorkshire who was forced into hiding after accusations of blasphemy.

Published on Monday, the review said the teacher at Batley grammar school was left feeling suicidal and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after being targeted in an online and offline campaign of intimidation and abuse.

The teacher was suspended in March 2021 for showing pupils a drawing taken from the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo during a religious studies classes, provoking complaints from parents and protests outside the school’s gates.

He was subsequently cleared of causing deliberate offence and was told he could have his job back, but the review criticised the handling of his case, claiming that “appeasing the protesters to secure the end of the protests – at the expense of the religious studies teacher” appeared to have been the priority.

The review, conducted by Dame Sara Khan, the government’s independent adviser for social cohesion and resilience, also argued there was a “disproportionate concern for not causing offence to the religious sensibilities of those who, unaware of the facts, chose to engage in intimidation and harassment”.

The review said a cohesion and conflict unit would not only support affected teachers, it would provide guidance, training materials and resources and collect cohesion data. It also called for legislation to enforce 150-metre buffer zones around schools in England to prevent protests immediately outside school gates.

“While demonstrations should always be peaceful, local authorities and police already have powers to restrict protests that are intended to be intimidatory,” said Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the National Education Union.

Geoff Barton, the general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, added: “The idea of a cohesion and conflict unit to provide schools with guidance, training materials and resources, along with support and care for schools and teachers who find themselves threatened and harassed, sounds helpful.

“However, this would … require further thought about how this would complement and work alongside existing advice and support systems.”

Batley Multi Academy Trust, which is responsible for the school at the centre of the protests three years ago, defended its actions. “We remain clear that we delivered on our responsibilities and that we followed due process. This included immediately establishing an independent investigation, accepting its findings and acting on them.

“We are therefore disappointed by today’s report. We do not recognise much of what is in it, its description of the events, nor the characterisation of our school and community.”

Michael Gove, the secretary of state for levelling up, housing and communities, said Kahn was right about the threat posed by freedom-restricting harassment. “She is also right about the need for new government architecture to protect our democracy and tackle threats to cohesion. Rapid work is currently under way that will do just that.”

The review identified higher education as another area affected by “freedom-restricting harassment” and described how one university was forced to cancel a proposed academic research centre after threatening harassment to staff.

The government has appointed a university free speech tsar to protect freedom of speech and academic freedom and new legislation will impose a duty on English universities to take “reasonable steps” to promote free speech, or face sanctions including possible fines.

A consultation on guidance about the new duty, published on Tuesday, warned that universities in England could be ordered to terminate agreements with overseas countries if they are found to have undermined free speech and academic freedom.

One of the examples included in the guidance, published by the regulator of higher education in England, the Office for Students, described the case of a university that accepts international students on visiting scholarships funded by an overseas country.

If students are required to accept the principles of the ruling party of that country, that could undermine free speech and academic freedom and the university may have to end or amend the agreement, the guidance says.

The warning comes amid mounting concern about English universities’ growing dependence on fees from international students to stay afloat. The Sunday Times reported that many of the UK’s most prestigious universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, now get only a minority of their fee income from British students, with some getting more than three-quarters of their fees from abroad.

Prof Arif Ahmed, director for freedom of speech and academic freedom at the OfS, was asked at a briefing whether there were fears that universities were putting the financial benefits of international students over preserving free speech for academics and students.

He said the OfS would look at individual complaints, adding: “If we find a case where, for instance, a university thinks because it’s financially expedient that it can breach its free speech duties and it doesn’t have to take practical steps to secure freedom of speech, or it thinks that it can compromise on those things simply because it’s financially expedient, that could very well be a case where they are in fact breaching their duties and we might find against them if a complaint comes to us.”

The secondary school is divided into two stages… grades 7-8 (the Logic Stage) and grades 9-12 (the Rhetoric Stage).

In grades 7-8, the students take the mastered information from the Grammar Stage and bring it into ordered relationships. Students begin to apply logic, assessing the validity of arguments and learning to view information critically with more discerning minds.

In grades 9-12, students learn to articulate eloquently and persuasively, and to use the tools of knowledge and understanding acquired in the earlier stages. This is the point at which the strength of a classical education is made fully visible.

Class Schedules

Fall 2023 Finals Schedule    7th-12th grades only.

23-24 Fall Class Schedule     7th-12th grades only.

Senior Course Options:

By the time students reach their senior year in high school, they have usually developed interests in specific areas. Therefore, they will be given the opportunity to pursue those areas through the following senior course options. These options are designed to allow students the opportunity to learn one or two subjects well. As Dorothy Sayers says, “Whatever is mere apparatus may now be allowed to fall into the background, while the trained mind is gradually prepared for specialization in the “subjects” which, when the Trivium is completed, it should be perfectly well equipped to tackle on its own.” (from The Lost Tools of Learning) These options should aid the transition from the completion of the Trivium to the more specialized study that is a part of a college or university education.

Option 1: College or Online Class

This is a 1 credit option in which a student enrolls in a college or online class. Approved subjects include math, science, theology, humanities, and fine arts. The class must be taken for credit and the student must submit a transcript to receive credit toward Logos graduation. Areas of study that do not qualify are recreational classes and/or self-guided courses with little accountability.

Option 2: Internship

The internship is a 1/2 credit option intended to provide seniors with the opportunity to study a career. Students must work a minimum of 2 hours per week on their internship. A variety of internships have been approved in the past (interning with an elementary or secondary Logos teacher, riding along with police officers, observing at a local vet clinic, etc.). Students are not allowed to be paid for the time they spend as an intern. Parents are responsible to provide oversight and any necessary supervision or screening (background checks, etc.) for this experience.

Procedures for Both Options

1. At least two weeks before the beginning of each semester, students must submit a written proposal to the principal, via email. Late proposals will not be considered. Proposals must describe the following:

a. the main purpose of and goals for the program

b. the work that the student will be doing weekly to achieve these goals (include the website link for online classes)

c. the number of hours per week that the student will be participating in the program

2. Students have two days to resubmit proposals that have been denied.

Guidelines for Both Options

1. Credit will not be granted for work completed before a proposal is approved.

2. Students will receive a grade of E, S, or U at the end of each quarter and semester.

3. Failure to make satisfactory progress in the first semester will disqualify the student from participating in these programs during the second semester.

4. Students may only request approval for one semester at a time.

HISD restores stipends for speech, debate teachers after previously removing them

H ouston ISD has restored stipends for speech and debate sponsors for the 2024-25 school year after initially excluding them from the list of eligible employees.

HISD announced its compensation plan for the upcoming academic year in early March, including a link to all positions that would be eligible to earn stipends during the upcoming school year. The district offers stipends for duties that are unrelated to an employee’s primary job, such as working days outside of their normal schedule.

The posted list initially did not include several positions , such as academic coaches, teacher mentors, speech and debate sponsors and department chairs, who earn stipends this year. The district also removed stipends for sponsoring yearbook, newspaper, student council or robotics in New Education System schools but kept the stipends for employees at non-NES schools.

Jessica Neyman, HISD’s chief human resources officer, said the removed stipends were “an inefficiency” and “extraneous.” She said HISD expects employees to go above and beyond in a high performance culture, and the district was “not going to nickel and dime” every time an employee did something a little extra.

Since then, HISD has restored stipends for speech and debate sponsors, who will earn a yearly stipend of $1,010 in middle schools and $1,930 next year in high schools.

Under the previous compensation plan for the 2023-24 school year, middle school debate sponsors earn stipends of $720, $1,010 or $1,295, while high school debate sponsors earn $1,360, $1,930 or $2,500, depending on their level experience.

Speech and debate sponsors were not listed to receive stipends as of March 15, and it’s unclear when the district added the position back to the list of eligible employees. The district did not respond to a request for comment about why or when the role had been added to the list.

TEACHER SALARIES: What to know about HISD's compensation plan for the 2024-25 school year

State-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles said during a District Advisory Committee committee meeting on March 19 that he didn’t know why stipends for debate coaches had been removed and would check why they were not listed.

“I love debate ... and I’d be surprised if a debate coach who's actually going out to debates and taking the kids out to debate doesn't receive some sort of stipend,” Miles said.

Several people spoke out about the removal of stipends for certain employees during the HISD school board meeting on March 21, where they urged the board to restore stipends because of the value that extracurricular activities provide to students and the extra time that sponsors spend working with students outside of class.

Eric Emerson, a Houston Urban Debate League board member, told the Board of Managers that debate “gives students a voice in a way that no other activity does” and cutting stipends for debate sponsors would undermine the educational wellbeing of HISD’s students.

MORE HISD COVERAGE: District enrollment drops by more than 30,000 students since peak

“This is an investment that provides educational opportunities for the kids, ... and if you cut the budget for the stipends, our lesson is that, in 2008, when we didn't have the stipends, no (high) school in HISD had debate,” Emerson said. “The only one that did was Bellaire (High School.)”

The district has also made minor adjustments to the compensation plan since it was first published publicly on March 5. The plan now states that the overtime pay for employees can not exceed 10% of their total salary, which is a reduction from the initial limit of 30%.

It also states that the teacher pay table for employees in schools outside of the New Education System applies to dyslexia interventionists, librarians, media specialists, nurses, speech therapists and multiple other positions. The initial draft of the proposed compensation plan did not list the pay details for librarians and certain other employees.

The compensation manual is still pending approval from the Board of Managers, which is expected to vote on the budget in June. If approved, the plan will go into effect on July 1.

Editor’s note: This story originally stated that HISD was restoring stipends for academic coaches after the position was added to the list on the district’s website. It has been updated to reflect that HISD removed academic coaches from the list of eligible positions for stipends Wednesday.
