A printable periodic table is an essential tool for students and chemists. The periodic table lists the elements in order of increasing atomic number and includes other key facts, like atomic weight. You can place it where you need it while solving problems, mark it up, and print a new one whenever you like. This is a collection of free printable periodic tables in PDF file or PNG image format to save, print, and use. Some tables are available as slides in Google Apps. These periodic tables use accurate data for name, atomic number , element symbol , atomic weight, and electron configuration , obtained from the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry or IUPAC.

What we’ve done is list the tables, along with links, so you can get detailed info about each one. The HD periodic tables make great screen savers or reference tables on mobile devices. They are sized to fit on a sheet of paper and you don’t need to worry about marking them up because you can always print more for working homework problems or performing lab calculations. The tables re-size cleanly, so you can view or print at any size or aspect ratio, from tiny to poster-sized.

Atomic Radius Periodic Table

This color periodic table shows the relative sizes of each atom. The diameter of each atom is scaled relative to the largest element atom: cesium. This is a fun table to use when you’re considering periodic table trends because it shows how atomic radius decreases as you move across a period, even though the atoms gain more mass. This brightly-colored periodic table contains the melting points of the elements. Usually, these values are cited at STP , so if you’re using a different temperature or pressure, expect some deviation from the value. It’s mostly a guide to help illustrate periodic table trends. This chart features the element symbols, atomic numbers, and atomic weights, but does not list the element names. You can use it to help learn to associate the names and symbols, like for quizzes and such. Printing Instructions for the Printable Periodic Tables

You can either print the HD image file (PNG) or else you can open and print the PDF files. It’s a simple matter to spread out the image over several pages to make a large wall poster, too. We recommend you print the PDF files because they are made for that purpose!

Periodic Table

My Favourite Element *suitable for home teaching*

A series a set of short film clips in which celebrities and scientists choose their favourite element and explain why they like it so much.  The clips could be used to set the scene for an activity in which students choose their own favourite element, perhaps producing an illustrated information card about it, a radio script or a film clip.

RSC Interactive Periodic Table

This is a really nice resource that would be a good basis for a research project. Students can explore each element with podcasts and videos, choosing from a variety of themes including the history, alchemy and trends within groups.

The Search for Simple Substances

Although this book looks dated now, it provides some great background information on how we have come to understand elements, right from the four elements of earth, wind, fire and water to the modern periodic table.

This is a good video that explores reactivity of the elements and how this affects what we use them for. Initially the unreactive nature of gold and silver is discussed and compared with the reactive alkali metals and then the reactivity of halogens is looked at. There are some nice demonstrations that are not possible to do in the classroom.

Just as a language has an alphabet from which words are built, chemistry has an alphabet from which matter is described. However, the chemical alphabet is larger than the one we use for spelling. You may have already figured out that the chemical alphabet consists of the chemical elements. Their role is central to chemistry, for they combine to form the millions and millions of known compounds.

• 2.0: Prelude to Elements, Atoms, and the Periodic Table The hardest material in the human body is tooth enamel. It has to be hard so that our teeth can serve us for a lifetime of biting and chewing; however, tough as it is, tooth enamel is susceptible to chemical attack. Acids found in some foods or made by bacteria that feed on food residues on our teeth are capable of dissolving enamel. Unprotected by enamel, a tooth will start to decay, thus developing cavities and other dental problems.
• 2.1: The Elements All matter is composed of elements. Chemical elements are represented by a one- or two-letter symbol.
• 2.2: Atomic Theory Atoms are the ultimate building blocks of all matter. The modern atomic theory establishes the concepts of atoms and how they compose matter.
• 2.3: The Structure of Atoms Atoms are composed of three main subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons are grouped together in the nucleus of an atom, while electrons orbit about the nucleus.
• 2.4: Nuclei of Atoms Elements can be identified by their atomic number and mass number. Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have different masses.
• 2.5: Atomic Masses Atoms have a mass that is based largely on the number of protons and neutrons in their nucleus.
• 2.6: Arrangements of Electrons Electrons are organized into shells and subshells about the nucleus of an atom.
• 2.7: The Periodic Table The chemical elements are arranged in a chart called the periodic table. Some characteristics of the elements are related to their position on the periodic table.
