immigration persuasive essay topics

The whole world watches the immigration drama that occurs in the USA. Separated families, tears, anger, escalation of antimigration attitudes in society—this all are consequences of immigration regulations.

Writing an essay on immigration may seem difficult enough. However, the IvyPanda team is here to help you. Just keep reading and you’ll find out simple tips to ace your assignment.

Immigration Essay: Research the Problem

Before you start drafting your essay outline, you should understand what is immigration, its causes, forms, and develop your opinion.

What is immigration? This is the process of acquiring permanent residence in a foreign country. And, accordingly, an immigrant is a person who undergoes this process.

Why do people decide to immigrate?

Actually, every person has their own reason. But we gathered most common immigration causes below:

  • Economics. Most people decide to move to other country when they are not satisfied with conditions in their homeland: lack of jobs, low salaries, high taxes, corruption. All of these make a person seek a better life.
  • Politics . In some countries, government bans certain parts of population from occupying certain positions, gaining education they want, etc. For example, lists professions and occupations that are prohibited for woman.

  • Wars. Even though we’re living in the 21st century, wars still occur. And the desire to save immigrants’ families, and escape from death leads to increasing number of refugees.
  • Human right and freedom. We all want to live in a better place with our loved ones, being able to choose a career, and religion, regardless of our social or marital status. However, some countries ban same-sex marriage, some religions and religious trends other than the dominant ones. There are also a lot of countries where there is no freedom of speech. Imagine that even a short post in your social media account may lead to a prison.
  • Personal causes. It may be a desire to take the career to the next level, a realisation of childhood dream to live in a certain place, to acquire education in a certain institution or country, etc.

Immigration can be legal and illegal. Legal immigration means that the person is acquiring the residential status in accordance to government regulations. On the other side are immigrants who decide to try and flee to foreign countries illegally .

Is it bad? You have conduct a thorough research and form your opinion.

If you’re doing your research for illegal immigration essay, you should also investigate effects of it. Mostly, it negative impacts on economics. Illegal immigrants take any job that provides an income to support their families. Employers use this labor force without paying any taxes, providing insurance and often pay less than minimum wage. This leads to legal job cuts and lower budget revenues. And, as a result, cuts in social, education, public health, and other important programs occur.

Among other effects, we can name the rise of terrorist and criminal activities. You can explore this topic when writing the immigration essay or paper on terrorism.

Relatively easy way of illegal immigration leads to reduced motivation for legal immigration. It’s cheaper and easier.

If you’re writing the overpopulation essay, you can mention that overpopulation can be both cause and effect. The lack of access to fresh water, poverty, and pollution makes people seek for the better life somewhere else. And, as a consequence, immigration explosions provoke overpopulation, cut of legal jobs, increased pollution in the destination country.

Immigration Essay: Stick to the Structure

Now, let’s get back to the writing. First of all, brainstorm some ideas of your immigration or overpopulation essay. Write them down and then pick the topic that appeals to you the most. Don’t forget to check if there are enough sources for your paper. There are plenty of free essays and examples to help you with all of that.

The next step is to create an essay outline. A typical essay structure consists of introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Even if you need to write a five-paragraph essay, you must include these elements.

First things first, let’s start with the essay introduction. In the intro of any type of essays, you must give a hook to your readers and provide an essay thesis. Engage your readers with a couple of suggestions about the problems of immigrants that you’ve researched.

As for the essay body, its contents may vary depending on the type of assignment. In the argumentative or persuasive essay, you must put several arguments supporting your point of view. In the for and against essay, provide a counterargument after each argument. If you’re writing an opinion essay, express your thoughts and don’t forget to keep a logical flow. Otherwise, your readers will be bored and quickly lose their attention.

As well as the introduction, a conclusion is also a mandatory element. In this part, you must restate thesis and ideas, presented in a body without repeating it. Write it in other words.

130 Immigration Essay topics

Whether it’s for a political science class, a history class, or a course on civics and government, writing an immigration-themed essay will most likely be an assignment required to complete the course.

Immigration is not only one of the most controversial issues in the United States; immigration is also a perennial concern that has been a part of all societies throughout time.

Because of the importance of the topic and the potential for controversy, writing an immigration essay can be a daunting task. However, by following a few simple steps, you can produce a high-quality essay on immigration that will help you get the grade you need to pass your class.

How to Write an Immigration Essay?

Writing an essay on immigration is much like writing an essay on any other topic. In addition to a well-thought-out topic and thesis statement, the essay should have a strong body and conclusion.

To improve your grade on an immigration essay, you need to create a thesis statement specific to the subject of the paper and present a viewpoint with supporting details from credible sources. A well-constructed argument will help you with this task.

Once you have your thesis statement, the body of your essay should consist of an organized positioning on relevant issues with supporting details, including specific examples.

Finally, to create a well-written conclusion that is relevant and clearly linked to the thesis statement, it’s important to restate your position on the issue. This is also a great time to reiterate your support for the argument you have made throughout the essay.

If you follow these simple steps, you will be able to write an essay on immigration that is guaranteed to get you the grade you need to pass your class and move on to more important topics.

What Type of Immigration Essay Should I Write?

Depending on the class and the given writing prompt, a student can use a number of essay styles to craft an immigration essay.

Narrative Immigration Essay

If you are an immigrant or a child of parents who immigrated to a new country, you could choose to write a narrative essay about your experience.

A narrative essay is meant to tell a story. So be sure to include plenty of personal examples in the writing, such as why your parents chose to leave their home country, what it was like living in a foreign land, or how you found out you were coming to the United States.

This type of writing is usually free-form and uses the first-person perspective, making it more personal.

Descriptive Essay on Immigration

Another option for an immigration essay is to write a descriptive essay. A descriptive essay can be used to describe anything. In the case of an immigration essay, you could focus on describing what it’s like living in a country that is constantly changing because of new immigrants.

You could also describe how the arrival of new immigrants has affected your life or the life of someone you know. This type of essay could also describe the process of immigrating to a new country, from the paperwork and interviews to the day-to-day struggles of living in a new place.

Persuasive Immigration Essay

A persuasive essay is meant to convince the reader to agree with your viewpoint on a certain issue. For example, in the case of an immigration essay, you could try to convince the reader that immigrants are not actually the problem that they are made out to be or that stricter immigration laws will only make things worse.

You could also argue for more open borders or providing amnesty to undocumented immigrants. Whichever side of the argument you choose, be sure to back up your points with credible sources.

Research Paper on Immigration

If you are asked to write a research paper on immigration, your task will be more difficult. In addition to writing a strong thesis statement and argument, you will also need to do extensive research to find credible sources to support your claims.

A research paper on immigration can cover a variety of topics, from the history of immigration in the United States to the effects that immigration has on the economy. Whatever topic you choose, be sure to stay focused on the main issue and make sure your arguments are well-supported.

No matter what type of essay you are writing, be sure to follow the basic essay structure: introduction, body, and conclusion. And if your immigration essay is research-oriented, be sure to back up your claims with strong supporting evidence.

Just because immigration can be a sensitive subject for many doesn’t mean that students should face challenges creating one. With a bit of planning and a strong understanding of the different types of essays, any student can write an immigration essay that is clear and concise.

' src=

Immigration is a hot-button issue in many countries. With debates over immigration policies heating up, it’s becoming increasingly important to know how to write an effective immigration essay. Crafting the perfect paper can be a daunting task, but with the right guidance and resources, anyone can create an informative and persuasive paper. In this article, we will provide tips on how to write the perfect immigration essay.

By following the simple tips below, you’ll be able to get a good immigration essay that makes a lasting impression on readers! Read on for more information about how to write the perfect immigration essay.

Immigration Essay Examples

Immigration essays can be difficult to write. They require extensive research, careful analysis, and thoughtful reflection on the topic. The introduction is the first part of an immigration essay and it should be crafted to capture the reader’s attention. It should introduce your story and the argumentative essay outline you will use throughout your paper.

Immigration Essay Example

How To Write an Introduction?

When crafting an immigration informative essay , the introduction is a crucial component. It should provide readers with an overview of the issue and introduce the main argument that will be discussed in the essay. To start, begin by providing some background information on immigration and its impact on society. This will help to set up the context for your essay and ensure your reader understands why this topic is important.

When crafting an immigration essay introduction, you can start with a personal story that illustrates how meaningful this issue is for you. Explain why you are passionate about immigration reform, or how it has impacted your life. Be sure to keep it concise and relevant while avoiding too much detail as this could potentially bore readers.

What to Write About in the Body?

Once you have provided a general overview of immigration, it’s time to address the main focus of your piece. Ask yourself what you want to say about immigration and create a thesis statement that outlines your argument.

This is where you will present your research and arguments in support of your thesis statement. To do this effectively, it’s important to create an argumentative essay outline that outlines exactly what points you want to make throughout the paper. Make sure each point has evidence to back it up so that readers will understand why you are making these claims and be more likely to agree with them.

Make sure to include facts or research if needed so readers can trust your opinion. Additionally, avoid using biased language as this might lead to misunderstanding or misinterpretation from readers.

How To Write a Conclusion?

The conclusion of an immigration essay is the most important part. It should summarize the main points of the essay, restate the thesis, and leave the reader with a sense of closure. To write an effective conclusion:

  • start by revisiting your main points and reiterating why they are important;
  • provide a brief overview of how the immigration issue has been addressed throughout the essay;
  • draw your conclusion by making a statement about immigration policy or offering a suggestion for further action on this issue.

When writing your conclusion, be sure to avoid simply repeating what you have already said in the body of your essay. Instead, use this section as a chance to bring together all of your ideas into one concise statement that drives home your point. Additionally, it is important to ensure that your conclusion remains focused on the topic at hand and does not wander off into unrelated topics or tangents. If done correctly, writing an effective conclusion can be one of the most rewarding parts of constructing an immigration essay.

5 Paragraph Essay About Immigration

  • The first paragraph of your immigration essay should provide an overview of the topic. Introduce your main points and explain why this issue is important.
  • In the second paragraph be sure to include any relevant facts or statistics that will help your argument come across as well-informed and persuasive. Don’t forget to cite any sources you use!
  • Your third paragraph should be much wider and focus on the body of your essay. This is where you dive into the details of your argument and provide evidence for why your perspective is valid.
  • After that discuss the pros and cons of different immigration policies, or analyze the economic or social impact of immigration in your country—the possibilities are endless! Again, make sure to include sources wherever possible.
  • Finally, end your 5 paragraph immigration essay with a conclusion that ties together all of the main points from your body paragraphs into one cohesive statement summarizing what was discussed in the paper. Include any final thoughts or insights you may have had while writing this paper as well as any potential solutions or further action steps related to immigration reform.

Immigration Argumentative Essay

Having covered the basics of writing a paragraph essay about immigration, it’s now time to explore how to construct an immigration argumentative essay. An immigration argumentative essay is a powerful tool for convincing readers of one’s opinion on the complexities and nuances of immigration in the United States. As such, this type of essay requires careful research and thoughtful analysis to be effective.

Argumentative Essay Topics on Immigration

  • First, identify an appropriate topic related to immigration into the United States. This could include current laws, benefits or consequences of immigration, public opinions on immigration, etc. Research should then be conducted around this topic in order to gain an in-depth understanding of both sides of the argument. Once a solid foundation has been established, it is important to consider all perspectives when constructing an argument for or against immigration.
  • The structure of an immigration argumentative essay should first introduce the issue and provide background information before delving into supporting arguments. For example, if pro-immigration policies are being argued for then evidence from relevant sources such as statistics and experts’ opinions can be used to support one’s claims. On the other hand, if anti-immigration policies are being argued against then economic data or personal stories can be included to emphasize their impact on individuals and society overall.
  • Finally, once all arguments have been presented a conclusion should be drawn that summarizes key points without repeating them verbatim. A conclusion should also include implications for further action or exploration that readers may find interesting or informative. With these tips in mind, any reader can confidently craft an effective and persuasive immigration argumentative essay that will engage readers and leave them wanting more!

Do you need to write a persuasive essay but aren’t sure what topic to focus on? Were you thrilled when your teacher said you could write about whatever you wanted but are now overwhelmed by the possibilities? We’re here to help!

Read on for a list of 113 top-notch persuasive essay topics, organized into ten categories. To help get you started, we also discuss what a persuasive essay is, how to choose a great topic, and what tips to keep in mind as you write your persuasive essay.

What Is a Persuasive Essay?

In a persuasive essay, you attempt to convince readers to agree with your point of view on an argument. For example, an essay analyzing changes in Italian art during the Renaissance wouldn’t be a persuasive essay, because there’s no argument, but an essay where you argue that Italian art reached its peak during the Renaissance would be a persuasive essay because you’re trying to get your audience to agree with your viewpoint.

Persuasive and argumentative essays both try to convince readers to agree with the author, but the two essay types have key differences. Argumentative essays show a more balanced view of the issue and discuss both sides. Persuasive essays focus more heavily on the side the author agrees with. They also often include more of the author’s opinion than argumentative essays, which tend to use only facts and data to support their argument.

All persuasive essays have the following:

  • Introduction: Introduces the topic, explains why it’s important, and ends with the thesis.
  • Thesis: A sentence that sums up what the essay be discussing and what your stance on the issue is.
  • Reasons you believe your side of the argument: Why do you support the side you do? Typically each main point will have its own body paragraph.
  • Evidence supporting your argument: Facts or examples to back up your main points. Even though your opinion is allowed in persuasive essays more than most other essays, having concrete examples will make a stronger argument than relying on your opinion alone.
  • Conclusion: Restatement of thesis, summary of main points, and a recap of why the issue is important.

What Makes a Good Persuasive Essay Topic?

Theoretically, you could write a persuasive essay about any subject under the sun, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Certain topics are easier to write a strong persuasive essay on, and below are tips to follow when deciding what you should write about.

It’s a Topic You Care About

Obviously, it’s possible to write an essay about a topic you find completely boring. You’ve probably done it! However, if possible, it’s always better to choose a topic that you care about and are interested in. When this is the case, you’ll find doing the research more enjoyable, writing the essay easier, and your writing will likely be better because you’ll be more passionate about and informed on the topic.

You Have Enough Evidence to Support Your Argument

Just being passionate about a subject isn’t enough to make it a good persuasive essay topic, though. You need to make sure your argument is complex enough to have at least two potential sides to root for, and you need to be able to back up your side with evidence and examples. Even though persuasive essays allow your opinion to feature more than many other essays, you still need concrete evidence to back up your claims, or you’ll end up with a weak essay.

For example, you may passionately believe that mint chocolate chip ice cream is the best ice cream flavor (I agree!), but could you really write an entire essay on this? What would be your reasons for believing mint chocolate chip is the best (besides the fact that it’s delicious)? How would you support your belief? Have enough studies been done on preferred ice cream flavors to support an entire essay? When choosing a persuasive essay idea, you want to find the right balance between something you care about (so you can write well on it) and something the rest of the world cares about (so you can reference evidence to strengthen your position).

It’s a Manageable Topic

Bigger isn’t always better, especially with essay topics. While it may seem like a great idea to choose a huge, complex topic to write about, you’ll likely struggle to sift through all the information and different sides of the issue and winnow them down to one streamlined essay. For example, choosing to write an essay about how WWII impacted American life more than WWI wouldn’t be a great idea because you’d need to analyze all the impacts of both the wars in numerous areas of American life. It’d be a huge undertaking. A better idea would be to choose one impact on American life the wars had (such as changes in female employment) and focus on that. Doing so will make researching and writing your persuasive essay much more feasible.

Tips for Writing a Strong Persuasive Essay

After you’ve chosen the perfect topic for your persuasive essay, your work isn’t over. Follow the three tips below to create a top-notch essay.

Do Your Research

Your argument will fall apart if you don’t fully understand the issue you’re discussing or you overlook an important piece of it. Readers won’t be convinced by someone who doesn’t know the subject, and you likely won’t persuade any of them to begin supporting your viewpoint. Before you begin writing a single word of your essay, research your topic thoroughly. Study different sources, learn about the different sides of the argument, ask anyone who’s an expert on the topic what their opinion is, etc. You might be tempted to start writing right away, but by doing your research, you’ll make the writing process much easier when the time comes.

Make Your Thesis Perfect

Your thesis is the most important sentence in your persuasive essay. Just by reading that single sentence, your audience should know exactly what topic you’ll be discussing and where you stand on the issue. You want your thesis to be crystal clear and to accurately set up the rest of your essay. Asking classmates or your teacher to look it over before you begin writing the rest of your essay can be a big help if you’re not entirely confident in your thesis.

Consider the Other Side

You’ll spend most of your essay focusing on your side of the argument since that’s what you want readers to come away believing. However, don’t think that means you can ignore other sides of the issue. In your essay, be sure to discuss the other side’s argument, as well as why you believe this view is weak or untrue. Researching all the different viewpoints and including them in your essay will increase the quality of your writing by making your essay more complete and nuanced.

Persuasive essays are a bit like argument essays and persuasive speeches , but they tend to be a little kinder and gentler. Argument essays require you to discuss and to attack an alternate view, while persuasive essays are attempts to convince the reader that you have a believable argument. In other words, you are an advocate, not an adversary.

A Persuasive Essay Has 3 Components

  • Introduction : This is the opening paragraph of your essay. It contains the hook, which is used to grab the reader's attention, and the thesis, or argument, which you'll explain in the next section.
  • Body : This is the heart of your essay, usually three to five paragraphs in length. Each paragraph examines one theme or issue used to support your thesis.
  • Conclusion : This is the final paragraph of your essay. In it, you'll sum up the main points of the body and connect them to your thesis. Persuasive essays often use the conclusion as a last appeal to the audience.

Learning how to write a persuasive essay is an essential skill that people use every day in fields from business to law to media and entertainment. English students can begin writing a persuasive essay at any skill level. You're sure to find a sample topic or two from the list of 100 persuasive essays below, sorted by degree of difficulty.
