Assignment Cover Pages

Assignment cover page is the first page of an assignment. When you hold an assignment, the first page that you will see is the cover page. It is also called the title page. An assignment cover page includes the name of the institution, the title of the assignment, the name of the student and student’s ID. The assignment cover page is helpful in identifying what the assignment is about and which student submitted it.

Many students submit assignments to instructors, and instructors are usually teaching more than one subject. Therefore, without an assignment cover page, it would be difficult for the instructor to manage and sort out different assignments.

When there is an assignment cover page, instructors can easily sort out the assignments and grade them. Even the students submitting multiple assignments on the same day could end up submitting the wrong assignment if the assignments didn’t have a cover page.

Another important reason for having assignment cover pages is that this is part of training students to submit work professionally. An assignment cover page shows professionalism in submitting work. When students are trained for professional work, they are better equipped at succeeding in their jobs. Thus, professors and instructors usually ask students to create cover pages for their assignments so that the students develop this habit early in their academic life.

The assignment cover page usually includes the name of the institution, title of the assignment, name of the student, student id, date of submission. In some cases, the title page may also mention the instructor name. Usually, the title page is not page numbered.

Some courses might also require the students to format the assignment cover pages using popular referencing styles. For example, there is a particular format to make an assignment cover page using APA or MLA referencing styles. In some cases, professors may also issue detailed instructions on how to format an assignment cover page. These instructions may include font style, font size, text color, page borders, and the information that must be stated on the cover page along with a particular order.

Cover pages are required in several situations:

  • When submitting a project report
  • When submitting a research proposal
  • When submitting a dissertation
  • When making a report that is longer than 2-3 pages
  • When the assignment instructions require an assignment cover page
  • When the professor is handling more than one subject and assignments may be erroneously sorted

Assignment cover pages are very useful and can be created in MS Word or Adobe. MS Word software allows pictures and text to be used on the cover page. Students may also use headers and footers, page borders and other features in MS Word to create a nice cover page. You can even use the popular heading styles given in MS Word.

How to create custom cover pages in microsoft word.

A great cover page draws in readers.

Quick Links

How to add a ready-to-use cover page to your word document, how to create a custom cover page in microsoft word.

A great cover page draws in readers. If you use Microsoft Word, you're in luck, because Word has ready to use cover pages. But did you know that Word also lets you create custom cover pages? Here's how to use both.

Word includes some cover page templates you can insert and then customize a bit if you need a quick cover page for your document.

To find them, switch over to the "Insert" tab on Word's Ribbon and then click the "Cover Page" button. (If your window isn't maximized, you might see a "Pages" button instead. Click that to show the "Cover Page" button.)

On the drop-down menu, click the cover page you want to use.

You can now add your document title, subtitle, date, and other information, as well as change the design up a bit if you want.

Creating a cover page from a template is easy enough, but if you don't like any of the built-in designs, you can create your own. You can do this on an existing document, but it's easiest to start with a blank document. We're going to be saving the custom cover page so that you can quickly insert it into an existing document anyway.

You can create your cover page using pretty much any of Word's tools. You can add a background color, picture, or texture . You can also position those elements how you want and even apply Word's text wrapping tools to them.  Make it look however you want.

When it comes to content, you have a couple of options. You can just type the text you want, but that wouldn't make it much of a template unless you want the same text on the cover page every time you use it.

Instead, you can use Word's Quick Parts feature to add document properties to the document. To do that, switch over to the "Insert" tab and then click the "Quick Parts" button.

On the drop-down menu, point to the "Document Property" submenu, and you'll see a bunch of different properties you can insert into your document: author, title, company, publish date, and so on. Go ahead and insert whichever properties you want to appear on your title page.

When you're done, you'll have several fields on your page. When you insert your cover page into a document later on, those fields are populated with the actual properties from the document (and you can also edit them on the fly if you want).

They're super plain to start with, but you can treat them like any other text in Word by applying styles and formatting, centering them on the page---whatever. Here, we've centered them on the page, applied the Title style to the title, shifted things down on the page a bit, and inserted a filigree illustration for a little flair. It's not the prettiest cover page around, but it's a good working example.

Now that we've got our cover page the way we want it, it's time to create a cover page template out of it.

First, select everything in the document (that's why we recommend starting this in a blank document) by pressing Ctrl+A. Next, head back to the "Insert" tab and then click that "Cover Page" button again.

This time, choose the "Save Selection to Cover Page Gallery" command from the drop-down menu.

In the window that opens, give your cover page a name and fill out a brief description if you want. Click "OK" when you're done.

Now when you open the "Cover Page" drop-down menu in the future, you'll see your new cover page template in the "General" section. Click to insert it just like you would one of Word's built-in cover pages.

And that's it. Creating custom cover pages for your document is pretty easy once you know where to look. While you're at it, learn a few more quick tips on putting together professional-looking documents in Word .

The 15 Best Microsoft Word Cover Page Templates

An attractive cover page adds a professional look to your document. These Microsoft Word templates are for that first impression.

If you want to add something extra to your report or essay, an attractive cover page can help. Not only can it bring flair to your document, but it is also helpful. A cover page introduces the paper to your audience with a title, author, date, and summary.

The cover page makes the first impression on your readers and conveys the big picture of the content. So, if you are ready to complete your business or educational paper, here are several Microsoft Word cover page templates.

Templates for Business Reports and Texts

1. business cover page median theme.

This Median-themed template not only gives you an eye-catching cover page but helps you start your report. The cover page includes space for a photo, such as your business location, product or service, or company logo. You can also add the date and an optional subtitle, along with a summary of the contents.

The second page of the template provides headings, subheadings, paragraphs, and a quote section. This template from Microsoft Office is a great choice that goes a little further to assist you with your document.

2. Report Cover Page Executive Design

This design from Microsoft comes with a cover page template and report format in one. The cover page has a tasteful and professional geometric design. You can pop in the report title, subtitle, and abstract like the other templates.

The second page carries over the same black, white, and purple color scheme and offers a sidebar for highlighting key points. You also have headings, subheadings, and paragraphs for a complete package.

So, if this style matches your business, it is a good choice.

3. Formal Cover Page Blue Vertical Design

Maybe you prefer to stay away from a cover page that includes a photo. If so, this basic option from Hloom might be more your style. With a simple blue vertical line design, the cover page also has spots for the title, subtitle or abstract, date, and the author's name.

4. Report Cover Page Dark Blue Weaves

Hloom has another good option in a darker blue. This one highlights the title of your report with large font right in the center. Other great features of this page are the additional text areas. You can include a subtitle, date, or your company motto at the top. Then, at the bottom is a place for the report's author or your summary.

Templates for Educational Essays and Term Papers

5. student paper cover page.

For students who have the flexibility to format their cover page as they like, this Microsoft Office cover page template is an excellent option. You can pop in a photo or other image and add the report title, student name, course name, instructor name, and date. You can also easily remove the areas that you don’t need.

Similar to the business cover letter templates, this one includes a second page for the report. Headings, subheadings, and a bulleted list are there for convenience. But, if you are required to submit your paper in a specific format like MLA or APA, you can use the cover page.

6. Student Report With Cover Page

Microsoft Word gives you this lovely cover page template for a more compact design that includes a helpful second page. Like other templates for students, you can use a photo or image that enhances your report topic. Insert your title and subtitle and then your name, course name, and date.

The second page has headings and subheadings with a bulleted list to assist you in starting your report, research paper, term paper, or essay.

7-9. APA-Style Cover Pages

When your instructor requires an APA cover page to match your paper, Hloom has a few templates. Each option provides the correct line spacing, font size, margins, Times New Roman font style, and a running head. You can use these templates for a paper with one author, multiple authors within the same institution, or authors with different affiliations.

  • The first template is for a paper with just one author, and it is plain and straightforward with places for your title, name, and affiliation or institution name.
  • These two are suitable for a two-author paper. You will notice that the only difference is the affiliation.

10. Collaborative Cover Page

If you have a paper with more than one author but are not restricted to the APA format, this report template will be handy. You can add a photo, title, abstract, and multiple authors. You can also fill out the areas for class, semester, instructor name, and date. Take advantage of the second page to start your paper right with a convenient formatting option.

14. Text Background Cover Page

15. Basic Cover Page

When basic is best for your report or paper, this neat and clean template is a good choice. There are no fancy images or photo spots, just a splash of color in the line separating the title and subtitle, which can be removed. In the last couple of years, I have tried many word-processing services , and still, Google Docs is one of my favorites. The ease with which lets me do my writing manages to win me over every single time. What’s more, the keyboard shortcuts are the icing on the cake.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs

However, apart from the standard word-processing features, Docs also has various cool features up its sleeves. For instance, you can make a timeline or a cover page for your project.

Yep, you heard us right! With Google Docs, you can design a neat cover page or title page for your assignment or project. And the good news is that it’s rather a simple affair.

Without further ado, let’s see how to make a cover page in Google Docs.

Making Your Own Cover Pages

Google Docs offers plenty of features to customize a document — be it adding image or messing around with different fonts and styles. To create your own cover letter, you’d have to put in some efforts as well as have an eye for creativity.

First off, you may want to add a border to your document. Sadly, Google Docs doesn’t have any native method to add borders. However, we have a nifty workaround in place. Here, we’ll have a table cell masquerading as a table border.

Step 1 : To add a page border, open File > Page Setup, lower the page margins, and hit the OK button.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 8

Step 2 : Next, click on Insert > Table > and select a cell.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 9

Now, all you have to do is drag the lower border to the bottom of the page, and ta-da! There’s your border added.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 10

Step 3: Now, you can go about your business of adding an image or adding text inside the cell just like any other document. You can even drag the image to the location of your choice.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 14

Just remember to choose the Wrap text option. Add the necessary text, and modify the font as you see fit, and you’ll have a rough structure of your cover page in no time.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 11

Other than that, if you plan to write over the image, the best option will be to utilize the Drawing tool. Here, you’d have all the tools at your disposal. So whether it’s adding text on images or clubbing a set of shapes, you can do a lot.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 12

After making the cover page, simply add the page numbers via Insert > Headers and page number > Page numbers. And that’s it. YOur cover page is almost ready. Just add the rest of the content.

How to Add an Attractive Cover Page

Don’t want to get down to all the complex stuff? After all, writing over a pre-formatted template is simple and easy. Thankfully, Google Docs has many templates in place for making an effective cover page. Though they may look a bit childish to some, you can always customize them as per your preference and project.

What I love about pre-formatted templates is that you don’t have to worry about the color theme in fonts.

Now that it’s settled, let’s get down to it.

Step 1: Open Google Docs and open the Template Gallery and scroll down to the Education section.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 1

Open any of the templates that suits your requirement the most.

Step 2: Now, this document is an open playbook, and you have to add your personal touches to it. For example, you can tweak the image or choose to replace it with a file from your PC. Or, if you want, you can change the color theme of the image on the cover page.

If you choose to tweak the image a bit, simply double click on it. To replace the image, right-click on it and select Replace image.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 5

The option to recolor it is available on the right panel. Click on the Recolor drop down and choose a color theme that sits best with your overall assignment. The same can be said of transparency and brightness.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 4

Perhaps, the best thing about Google Docs is that you can place an image anywhere you want. So, be it your company’s logo or some other small image, you can and move it a location of your choice.

Step 3: To replace the dummy text, double click on it, and add the appropriate title. The same is true of the name and other details.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 178

As we mentioned above, a template comes with its own color palette. Hence, to maintain the same theme across the document, the best thing would be to choose from the last line of color options.

Step 4: Last but not least, add the page number via Insert > Header and page number > Page number and choose the second option.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 7

Or, you can save the document as a template if you have a G Suite account. To do so, open the Template Gallery and click on the company name. Next, click on Submit Template button and select a document from your drive.

Create Cool Cover pages

And that’s not the end of the story. You can search the Internet for more refined templates, and then use it on your document. Or, if you’re on the mood to experiment, you can use either try Adobe Spark or Canva to whip up superb images. Having done that, you can simply import it to Google Docs. Yes, you can thank me later.

Next up: Again, Google Docs doesn’t a native method to add or play YouTube videos? If you are looking for a workaround, check out the post below.

What is school assignment cover page?

School assignment cover pages are the title or front pages of the students’ assignments, that have been given to them by the school. The cover page indicates the main gist of the assignment as well as helps in differentiating one assignment from the other, and one student’s assignment from the other student’s assignment.

By looking at the cover page, a supervisor would know which student the assignment belongs to. He would also know the title of the assignment so that it would be easy for him to keep and maintain the student record. In addition, if an assignment gets lost within the department or among the departments, if anyone finds it, by looking at the provided details on the cover page, it would be easy for him to give it to the concerned person.

Importance of cover pages for school assignments

Cover pages of the school assignments are one of the most important pages of an assignment, hence, they need to be designed while considering various factors, such as:

  • The information required by the teacher, or the school should be present on the cover page, without any less or extra information.
  • The information should be correct and up to date.
  • The cover page should follow the format, as stated by the teacher. If the teacher does not require any specific format, such as MLA, APA, etc., for the cover page, the font used should easily be readable, and the text should have the size and line spacing, that a reader can easily read it.
  • If any images are added, they should be aligned with the type of requirements as well as the guidelines provided by the teacher.
  • No text should be overshadowed by the images.
  • The design and look of the cover page should be formal and professional, and yet attractive.

Designing a school assignment cover page

To design a cover page of the school assignment, a student can make his own design, or choose one from the free templates readily available online and in the programs, such as Microsoft Word. Usually, the teacher guides about the information that needs to be put on a cover page. However, generally, the following details are included on a school assignment cover page:

  • Date of submission.
  • Title of the assignment.
  • Subtitle of the assignment, if any.
  • Assignment number.
  • Name of the student/s, who is/are submitting the assignment.
  • Student ID number or roll number.
  • Batch number or class name.
  • Name of the department.
  • Name of the subject or course.
  • Name of the teacher or supervisor.
  • Name of the university.
  • Logo of the university.
  • Space for the student’s signature.
  • Space for the teacher’s signature.
  • Space for the teacher’s remarks.

The students who overlook the cover pages of their assignments, often, do not score well. A cover page is often considered an opportunity for the student to attract his teacher’s attention toward the assignment and show its worthiness. If he gets successful in marketing his assignment, his teacher would be interested in going through his assignment, and the chances of higher grades become a possibility.
