Is SlideShare Dead?

SlideShare is an online presentation service that launched in 2006 and was purchased by LinkedIn in 2012. The platform originally focused on digital slideshows, hence the name, but eventually added support for the uploading of files created in other programs and the embedding of LinkedIn videos to create more dynamic presentations.

SlideShare is kind of a combination between a social network and an online learning resource. Anyone can create a presentation on the SlideShare website , sometimes referred to as "SlideShare net", while those that make high quality and popular creations, such as comprehensive webinars , can often gain a large following.

Projects made on SlideShare can be posted privately or publicly on the platform. If a project is published on SlideShare publicly, SlideShare users can like or comment on it and share it on social media or by embedding it on a website. Presentations can also be downloaded for offline viewing on the official SlideShare iOS app and SlideShare Android app.

What You Can Use SlideShare For

SlideShare is mainly known for being an educational resource with a variety of webinars and training presentations on a large number of subjects. Despite this main focus, though, SlideShare is also used by many to promote brands or companies and some even use it as a blogging or newsletter service for their website.

Due to the added support for PDF files , PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word documents, some users also use SlideShare to distribute files to friends, colleagues, or subscribers.

Here are some of the most-popular ways to use SlideShare:

  • Online webinars and training programs.
  • Website newsletters.
  • A visualization tool for presentations.
  • Promotional or marketing slideshows.
  • Travel guides and cookbooks.

Is SlideShare Free?

It’s completely free to view presentations on the SlideShare website and apps. It’s also free for all users to upload or create projects on the SlideShare website.

The SlideShare website does heavily promote LinkedIn Learning slideshows and courses. These are not free and require a monthly LinkedIn Learning subscription to access.

How SlideShare Login Works

While slideshows and presentations can be viewed without logging into SlideShare, an account is needed to leave comments, like slides, follow accounts, and download media.

SlideShare actually supports three different account options which can all be used via the Login link on the main SlideShare website.

  • Login with LinkedIn : This lets you log into SlideShare with your existing LinkedIn account.
  • Login with Facebook : This option allows you to use SlideShare with your Facebook account.
  • Login with your SlideShare account : This option is for those who still have an old SlideShare account from before LinkedIn purchased the brand back in 2012.

In general, logging into SlideShare with a LinkedIn account is recommended as the two services have become intermingled to the point that you’ll often find yourself on the LinkedIn website while using SlideShare.

How to Create a SlideShare New Account

If you select Signup on the main page or Signup for a SlideShare account from the Login page, it will actually prompt you to create a LinkedIn account, not a separate SlideShare account. This is completely intentional, as the creation of new SlideShare accounts are no longer supported for the average user.

An option to create a SlideShare account for a company or university is available, however, but all individuals are recommended to use LinkedIn.

Even if you’re a sole trader or a freelancer, you should still use SlideShare as an individual with a LinkedIn account. The company option is mainly intended for large corporations and organizations.

The SlideShare website and apps are technically all still active, but the service is no longer as popular as it used to be. Nowadays, it’s rarely seen as a primary focus for either individuals or companies with the majority of SlideShare’s most-popular presentations having been created several years ago and the website being used more to drive traffic to paid LinkedIn Learning courses rather than support user-created content.

The SlideShare apps also seem to be on their way out having only been updated once or twice a year since 2016.

One of the main reasons for SlideShare’s decline is the success of numerous rival online educational platforms like Lynda, which powers LinkedIn Learning, and Udemy. Unlike SlideShare, which is mostly restricted to basic free slideshows, these other services feature more multimedia functionality and also allow creators to earn money from their webinars and courses.

The increase in usage of cloud storage services, such as Google Drive , OneDrive , and Dropbox , which provide easy solutions for file sharing and viewing, have also likely had an effect on SlideShare user numbers, as has the continued popularity of YouTube , which many educators now use for free education channels, video tutorials , and online marketing.

How to Use SlideShare: Benefits and Best Practices for Marketers

Claire Cortese

Claire Cortese | June 7, 2019 | LinkedIn | 7 min read

LinkedIn is widely known as a professional networking goldmine. The platform offers a wide range of tools to aid business professionals in their endeavors, including the information host SlideShare.

When used correctly, SlideShare can be a valuable resource to marketing professionals looking to extend their efforts to the maximum potential.

But how do you use SlideShare? And how does it fit into your marketing plan?

What Is SlideShare?

SlideShare is a tool offered by LinkedIn that allows you to share slideshow presentations, infographics, videos, and other materials online. The basis is to make professional knowledge easily accessible by sharing it with an online audience.

What’s great about SlideShare is that the presentations can be made public, so there’s no limit to the number of people you can reach.

It’s also a user-friendly host that allows you to upload complete PDFs, PowerPoint and OpenOffice presentations, Word documents, and more.

SlideShare boasts “ 18 million uploads in 40 content categories ” – that’s an immense amount of information available at your fingertips. The content is high quality and posted by leading experts who want to share their knowledge with the world.

In short, SlideShare is a valuable resource if you’re looking to learn about any number of different topics – or to share your own knowledge.

Also, did we mention it’s free?

Types of SlideShare Presentations

When it comes to sharing knowledge and reaching a global audience, SlideShare opens up your possibilities. But in case you’re wondering how to use SlideShare to best display your information, we’ve put together a list of the types of presentations you can create.

Informative

Informative presentations are concise and direct. Their purpose is pretty clear – to inform the audience. These presentations often cover facts that are broken down from dense material into smaller digestible pieces of information.

Informative presentations include research and analytics results, background content information, and more.

Instructional

Instructional presentations are used to teach something to your audience, providing directions to guide them through things like navigating software or using an online tool.

These presentations are usually longer and more time consuming and can range from basic instructions to more advanced direction.

They are most commonly found in the form of video tutorials, but slideshows also work well.

This kind of presentation is used to spark interest in your audience about the topic being covered. Narrative driven, real-life stories and examples are often used to evoke emotion in the audience and make a significant impact.

These kinds of presentations are motivational and encouraging, and often end with a strong call to action to create movement within your audience.

The purpose of persuasive presentations is very straightforward – to convince your audience of your point. It requires supportive facts to enforce your argument and often presents your point as a solution to a problem.

Similar to stirring presentations, persuasive content typically ends with a strong CTA that encourages the audience to make a decision and act based on the information that has been provided.

These kinds of presentations often include debates and business proposals.

Benefits of Using SlideShare for Marketers

SlideShare can have a myriad of benefits for marketing professionals looking to extend their efforts. Adding SlideShare to your marketing plan can boost your content marketing strategy, one of the core foundations of any good business aiming for success.

The resource is especially valuable to marketers who are looking to use LinkedIn to strengthen their company's brand and hold a competitive edge within their industry.

Increase Exposure

For starters, you have the potential to reach a massive audience. SlideShare earns 25 million views each month – that’s a lot of potential eyes on your work.

More views means more exposure and thus more followers. This can lead to an increase in sales prospects, greater networking opportunities, and potential business partnership offers.

Repurpose Content

You don’t have to post all new content on SlideShare. It’s a great platform to help you repurpose top performing content in a fresh way!

Have a long form blog post that’s had a lot of views? Transform it into an easily digestible presentation on SlideShare.

This will allow you to deliver the information in a new way, continue to promote the material, and thus greatly expand your audience!

Establish Yourself as a Thought Leader

Sharing your knowledge via SlideShare will allow people to see your innovative and forward thinking mindset.

You’ll be able to establish yourself as a thought leader within your industry, and people will turn to your presentations when they need information on your specific area of expertise.

Deliver An Educational Resource

In addition to the numerous benefits SlideShare has when it comes to sharing your content, it’s also a great place to seek out information.

With content posted by a world of experts, the amount of quality material you have at your fingertips is practically limitless.

Use the resources available to you to constantly expand your knowledge of your industry and gain new knowledge on fresh topics – both of which will help you maintain a competitive edge within your field.

The Marketing Guide to Using SlideShare

Putting together a full presentation can be a time consuming and daunting task. How do you know where to start?

If you’re struggling with how to create a SlideShare presentation, don’t worry!

We’ve laid out the three primary steps for putting one together – planning, creation, and post-launch. If you follow these guidelines and best practices, you’ll be a presentation pro in no time.

1. Planning

Before you create your SlideShare presentation, you should plan out its content and your strategy for it.

What is the overall goal of sharing this information? Are you hoping to gain followers? Boost website traffic? Establish your authority within your industry? Determining the purpose for your presentation will help you shape it toward a target audience.

Make sure you have your material outlined and ready – you should be fully prepared to put it into a comprehensive presentation.

You should also consider how long you want your presentation to be – longer content containing 40-60 slides generally receives more views that shorter content.

2. Creating

Once you’ve planned out the goal and theme of your presentation and you have the materials ready, it’s time to make your SlideShare content!

Make your cover slide bold and descriptive to attract viewers and clearly tell them what your presentation is about.

Take a look at the cover slide of this presentation  by Leslie Samuel about establishing yourself as a thought leader:

linkedin-slideshare-thought-leader

The slide is colorful and well designed to attract attention from the audience. The title is bold and in theme with the colors of the overall slide, which maintains consistency. Finally, it clearly describes what the viewer will gain by clicking on this slide deck.

In order to optimize for searchability, include keywords in your title, description, and tags. If you want to drive traffic back to your website or other content, remember to include backlinks in your presentation. SlideShare allows you to include working hyperlinks within your work.

Consider your design carefully – you should include an engaging visual element in your presentation, as people respond to it more strongly than simple written content. Include pictures and infographics where appropriate.

You should arrange your slides in a way that develops a narrative and shows a clear, linear train of thought within the presentation.

Finally, if you want to build upon what is presented within the slides, you can add an audio narration feature to your presentation. Simply upload an MP3 file and attach it to your document, and your audience will have access to a fully developed audio and visual presentation!

Remember that presentation above about establishing yourself as a thought leader? Consider the points discussed in this section and pay attention to how they've been utilized throughout this deck:

3. Post-Launch

After you launch your content, you’ll need to promote it to boost your views.

One of the best ways to do this is to share it on your social media channels. Additionally, you can also embed the presentation into blog posts or a relevant page on your website.

One your content starts gaining traffic, SlideShare has a free analytics tool that allows you to track your number of views, downloads, and shares it receives.

Analyzing your content is an important step in the creation of a SlideShare presentation, as it allows you to track the impact of your work and keep tabs on what resonates with your audience. This way, you can assess the efficiency of your content and promotion efforts, and improve them for the future.

Present Your Best Work

Producing a consistent stream of content is great for consistency within your marketing strategy, and filling up your SlideShare profile will certainly impress your viewers.

However, make sure that you're only sharing presentations that have been thoroughly planned and carefully created. Shallow content will reflect poorly upon you and your brand.

When you know how to use SlideShare effectively as a marketing tool, you will see big results. Every presentation should add substantial value to your channel and benefit the audience in an impactful way. Sharing only the highest quality of content will help to create a sustainable growth impact within your larger marketing strategy.

What, How, and Why to Use SlideShare

Are you interested in using SlideShare to further your social media marketing objectives?  If so, this article will tell you what SlideShare is, why it is important, and how it can be used as part of a social media marketing campaign.

What is SlideShare?

SlideShare is a slide hosting service, acquired by LinkedIn in 2012. It allows users to upload files (PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote, or OpenDocument presentations) either privately or publicly. The slide decks can then be viewed on the site itself or can be embedded on other sites. Just as YouTube allows users to upload and share videos, SlideShare allows users to upload and share slideshows.

Although the site was originally intended for businesses to share slides amongst employees, it has expanded and now hosts a huge number of slideshows which have been uploaded for anybody to view.

And a lot of people do view them. In fact, SlideShare has 60 million users , hosts over 18 million pieces of content, and gets 159 million monthly page views.

Even so, SlideShare is currently only used by around 17 percent of B2B marketers. Most social media marketers focus their efforts on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn . And, of course, a good presence on all of these platforms is essential to a good social media marketing campaign. But many should perhaps consider SlideShare, too.

In fact, because so few marketers consistently upload content to SlideShare, there’s a lot less competition on the platform. This means that your content will have more chance of getting seen on SlideShare than on more popular platforms. So long as you create a valuable, aesthetically pleasing presentation, there’s no reason why you can’t expect your content to get hundreds or thousands of views almost immediately.

SlideShare Benefits

Here are some of the benefits of using SlideShare:

  • Using SlideShare means you won’t have to worry about hosting content on your own site since you can just embed content from SlideShare. A far more practical and less time-consuming process.
  • Using it means you will be able to tap into the large number of SlideShare visitors and raise your own profile.
  • It is low cost since there is both a free account option and the option to go pro.
  • It is easy to use since most people are already familiar with PowerPoint and so are able to generate content relatively quickly.
  • Using it will allow you to grow your brand and is perhaps the platform which can best accommodate more detailed and in-depth content – i.e., content that may not be appropriate for sharing on other social channels.

So, SlideShare is great. Yes. But how do you go about creating a good presentation?  There are some great tips on how you can add great creativity to presentations using Visme in this article by Orana Creative – very cool.  Slideshows are a great way to promote your product reviews as well.

1.  Design, Design, Design

Design is key for what, how and why to use slideshare

SlideShare’s users expect high-quality content. Meet this requirement, and you can expect to be rewarded by clicks and shares. Ignore it and prepare to watch your content sit around not doing an awful lot.

SlideShare itself has written about what makes for a well-designed presentation. In short, presentations should:

  • Not use overwhelming background images, since this can make text hard to read. Instead, use a light-coloured, subtle background so that people can read what you have to say clearly.
  • Not centre-align all text and images, since this can create a chaotic, disjointed effect.  Rather, only align some of your text centrally. Move supporting text to the left for a more balanced look.
  • Not consist of only one font size. Draw attention to the more important parts (words or sentences) of your slide with larger fonts and use smaller fonts for less important information of a slide.
  • Not overuse drop shadows. Drop shadows, especially thin, dark shadows against a white background, look blurry and cluttered. If you need to use a drop shadow, only ever use it on the header (never the body).
  • Not use poor quality images. Nothing looks as unprofessional as a poor quality or low-resolution image. If you want to use an image for the background, make sure it is in the 1000 pixels size range. Anything smaller should only be used as part of a slide, never a background.
  • Not use tacky or cheap fonts. Fonts which appear childish or tawdry will put viewers off instantly (I’m looking at you, Comic Sans ). But this doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with fonts. There are some great ideas for font combinations here .

2.  Use Keywords to Rank Higher

use keywords to rank higher on google by understanding what, how and why to use slideshare

No surprises here. Like any content, using keywords will improve your contents’ internal and external search ranking. This means your presentation should contain common relevant search phrases, as well as certain important words.

You should also include your keyword or phrase in the title and description or your presentation, as well as in tags. And make sure that you use a keyword as a file name when you save your content to the site.

SlideShare presentations already rank pretty well in Google. Making sure yours is keyword-optimised will give you the best possible chance of getting spotted.

3. Make it Valuable

adding value through slideshare

It can be tempting to create slideshows that harp on about how great you or your product/service is. But generally, such presentations do not perform very well.

Like any good content, your slideshows have to give readers valuable industry information. This may be the results of a survey, a summary of a white paper, speculative industry insights, or market reports.

Whatever information you choose to use as the basis of your presentation should be relevant to your target audience and give them insights and information they haven’t seen before and can’t get elsewhere.

If you can consistently deliver such information, your account will take off big time.

4. Share Presentations Elsewhere

If you’re just starting out on SlideShare, a great way to drive initial traffic to your content is to direct it from other social channels.

Of course, LinkedIn is a safe bet, since the content you’re likely to be sharing will be detailed and in-depth information, and such information will go down best with professionals.

The best way to do this is to post the presentation to LinkedIn (easy, since the two platforms are well integrated) and then share it as a status update from your personal account, your employees’ personal accounts, and your company page. It’s also possible to add SlideShare content to your LinkedIn profile’s summary page.

And other social platforms can do their part too. There’s no reason why you can’t post your slideshow to Facebook and Twitter . It might not perform as well here as on LinkedIn, but all traffic is good traffic.

SlideShare Conclusion

SlideShare is a great opportunity for social media marketers. But in order to make the most of the platform, you will need to take the time to create high-quality content. To do this, you will need an effective content strategy and a good content calendar .

And you’d better move quickly. As I say, it is still a relatively untapped resource. But it’s not likely to stay that way for long…

Are you using SlideShare? Or are you considering doing so? Let us know what you’re doing on the platform or why you want to get started with it. And if you need help with creating presentations, hosting them on SlideShare, want to understand how does SlideShare work or how to use SlideShare, and also promoting your SlideShare presentations, then please just get in touch !

Hello Buddy! you have done a terrific job of presenting Slideshare, and have certainly gotten me excited about it! This is one of those programs I kind of joined and set on the back burner, but now you have me fired up. Where, oh where, I ask, am I going to find the extra time? lol. This is one real winner, though, and worth making time for.

What do good presentations have in common

The best presenters rehearse the material for smooth delivery, use eye contact, and engage their audience. You’ll also find great slides and a strong storyline.

Here are five elements you’ll find in every great digital presentation .

The presentation is highly relevant to the audience.

The best way to engage your audience is to talk about things that matter to them. By choosing topics that are genuinely interesting, solve their problems, answer their questions, or offer actionable ideas, you’re on the right track for a great presentation.

The icing on the cake? Having great titles. Your slide titles should pique people’s interest and curiosity while clearly stating the topic so your audience can decide if it’s relevant.

The presentation has a clear objective.

People sitting in on a presentation should have a reasonably clear idea of what you’re covering.

Whatever the topic, your slides and commentary should clearly relate to your key takeaways.

The presentation follows an organized storyline.

While closely related to the item above, your slides should tell a story that your audience can follow, with a beginning, a middle, and an end.

By following the key elements of storytelling, it’s much easier to demonstrate the point you’re leading towards.

The audience understands the next steps.

Defining the action you want your audience to take at the conclusion of your presentation and offering a compelling reason to do so helps them understand and follow your ideal course of action.

While this is often a call to action, it can also be a thought-provoking question or a list of key takeaways.

The audiences leave with contact information and/or resources.

Often, your audience wants to dive deeper into your material or topic. Offering contact information or additional resources helps listeners find what they need, whether it’s a conversation with you or a link to more information.

  • Less is more.
  • Keep text to a minimum.
  • Rethink visuals.
  • Incorporate multimedia.

Now that you know what to look for in a great slide deck, let’s dive in and explain how you can create your own. Follow these four guidelines for the best results.

1. Less is more.

Keep your slides simple when delivering a presentation to an audience in-person. You want the focus to be on the message, rather than just the slides themselves. Keep the slides on-topic but simple enough that people can still pay attention to what you're saying.

Remember, your visuals and text support your message. The true power is in your delivery.

2. Keep text to a minimum.

One way to accomplish the aforementioned simplicity is to reduce the amount of text in your presentation. Too much text can leave your audience overwhelmed. They’ll be preoccupied with reading your slides instead of listening.

Instead of large amounts of text, think about fewer words in a bigger font. This will help your audience up close and in the back of the room read your slides.

3. Rethink visuals.

People recall information better when it’s paired with images (as opposed to text). When you reduce the amount of text in your slides, you'll need compelling visuals to support the message you're delivering to your audience.

That doesn't mean you can just throw some nice-looking photos onto your deck and move on. Like any other content strategy, the visual elements of your presentation need to be strategic and relevant. We’ll discuss different types of visuals, and their best practices, below.

Slideshare Presentation template

Download 10 PowerPoint Templates for Free

While PowerPoint templates have come a long way since the program was first unveiled to the world, chances are, they're still commonly used.

To make your presentation unique, choose a theme that your audience hasn't seen dozens of times before — one that matches your brand and complements the topic you're speaking about.

Sometimes, it pays to look at presentation platforms other than PowerPoint to find templates, like Prezi.

There are also many visual content design sites that offer customizable templates that you can adapt for your own brand and topic, like Canva. In fact, in addition to templates, Canva also offers its very own platform for building presentations from scratch .

Additionally, you can also take a look at Venngage's free presentation maker for more professionally designed templates, icons, and high-quality stock photos that you can use right away.

Charts and Graphs

good presentation examples, charts and graphs

One of the best ways to support the message you're delivering in your presentation is by including data and statistics. That's where charts and graphs come in: They provide a colorful and engaging way to present the details that support your point.

That said, make sure they fit in with the rest of your presentation's visual theme. Otherwise, your data points can distract the audience from what you're talking about, rather than enhancing it.

Color Theme

There's been some research on the way color can influence our emotions, especially when used in marketing.

While the goal of your presentation may not necessarily be to make a sale, you might be trying to invoke certain feelings or impressions, which a strategic use of color can help you do.

Check out Coschedule's guide on the psychology of color in marketing, which highlights the ways different tones, shades, and combinations can influence purchasing decisions.

When you include text, you want it to be easy to read and interpret. If you include text that's too small or dense to easily read, participants become too focused on trying to decipher it to pay attention to what you're saying.

That's why the designers at Visage recommend choosing Sans Serif fonts that opt for "legibility over fun," noting that text should not only be big enough for people in the back of the room to read but also presented in the right color to maintain visibility over your background.

Image Quality

Incorporating this fabulous visual content into your presentation will go to waste if the images are low-quality. Make sure your photos and other visual assets are high-resolution enough to be crisp and clear when displayed on a huge presentation screen.

10 FREE PowerPoint Templates

Tell us a little about yourself below to gain access today., 4. incorporate multimedia..

There's a reason why we love examples. You can give out the best advice available, but sometimes, in order to believe it, people need to see it in practice.

Multimedia is one way to achieve that — in a manner that can also capture and maintain your audience's attention.

A simple Google search for " music in presentations " yields enough soundtrack results to suggest that it's a unique way of engaging your audience, or at least creating a welcoming atmosphere before and after you speak.

Within the presentation itself, video serves as valuable visual content to keep your audience engaged. After all, 43% of people want to see more video content from marketers .

Video helps to illustrate and explain theories in practice in a way that the spoken word or photographs can't do alone.

Every item on this list meets the criteria for a great PowerPoint presentation. As you peruse these examples, take inspiration from our favorites and use what you learn to create your best presentation yet.

1. ChatGPT What It Is and How Writers Can Use It by Ads

The presentation below explains what ChatGPT is and all of its functionality, all with the goal of making the writing process easy.

What we love: This presentation maintains a limited color palette. The designer makes use of bold white text over a blue background to call out important headings. Key definitions are centered in white space, allowing these sections to naturally catch the viewer’s eye.

2 . How Google Works by Eric Schmid

Ever wonder what it's actually like to work at Google? The presentation below from Eric Schmidt (Alphabet, Inc.'s Executive Chairman and ex-CEO of Google) could clue you in.

This presentation outlines some of the top lessons he and his team have learned from running and hiring at one of the top companies in the world. Besides giving you a peek behind the scenes, Schmidt inspires you to make changes to the way your business runs.

What we love: This presentation has minimalist slides that balance simple illustrations with short text. Viewers can consume information quickly. Just as valuable, Schmidt ends with a thought-provoking question and information about where to go for more information.

3. Fix Your Really Bad PowerPoint by Slide Comet

This presentation has some awesome takeaways we all could learn from. Even if you're following all the tips in this presentation (inspired by Seth Godin's ebook), you can surely be inspired by its expert copy and design.

Seth Godin is arguably one of the greatest marketing minds of our time, so a presentation based on his book had to achieve high marks. In addition to the compelling design, the simplicity of the text stands out, making it easy for viewers to follow along.

What we love: This presentation example is best for understanding principles of great design and organization, while simultaneously teaching you how to create better slides.

4. 2022 Women in the Workplace Briefing by McKinsey & Compan

This presentation outlines the key findings from McKinsey’s 2022 research on women in the workplace. Focusing on original data, the slides below use a variety of graphs and visual representations to show how the expectations women face at work have changed over time.

Pro tip: If your presentation focuses on original research, use multiple types of graphs to show your finding. Only using bar graphs or pie charts can be tedious. Using many forms of data analysis will keep your presentation engaging.

5. Email Marketing Trends by Gabriel Blanche

Most marketers are looking to grow, but sometimes they can get stuck making incremental improvements. To help you get unstuck, Gabriel Blanchet shares trends to keep an eye out for.

What we love: These slides use a bright color pallet and use clean flow charts to present information. Best of all, it drives action by explaining each trend and explaining why it works.

6. Digital Strategy 101 by Bud Caddel

Even though this presentation is almost 100 slides long, its content is pure gold. Caddell answers some of the biggest FAQs about digital strategy in a very accessible way.

The reason his slides are so straightforward is because of the way he's laid them out. He's really adept at making "animated" slides that explain his story — something we all should learn how to do.

What we love: In the first few slides, Caddell lays out his objective and explains exactly what the presentation will cover. Viewers instantly understand what they’re going to get out of the presentation.

7. A Product Manager's Job by Josh Elma

Product managers are the backbone of every new initiative. These slides from Josh Elman describe what the role actually entails on a daily basis.

This presentation uses limited text in big font to drive home the highlights of the role. Plus, Elman starts off by discussing brands he’s worked with in the past, giving his presentation credibility.

What we love: Elman’s slides have a consistent color. By adding a blue filter to images, each slide in the presentation feels cohesive.

8. SEO, PPC, and AI in 2023 and Beyond by Lily Ra

Smart designers choose a consistent theme for their presentations. In this presentation, Lily Ray and her co-presenter pull from the world of science fiction.

When discussing AI and the future of marketing, they playfully evoke imagery reminiscent of Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell.

Pro tip: Picking a theme with cinematic imagery will help you stand out in a sea of corporate clipart.

9. The HubSpot Culture Code by HubSpot CTO Dharmesh Sha

Not to toot our own horn, but this presentation has been one of our most successful. The secret? Dharmesh chooses a central theme, the acronym HEART (Humble, Empathetic, Adaptable, Remarkable, and Transparent).

This simple phrase provides a concise framing of our company’s values, as well as a central message for the presentation. Plus, heart icons in the presentation make the connection clear.

Pro tip: Consider adding a theme or acronym that ties your presentation together.

10. How I Got 2.5 Million Views on SlideShare by Nick Deme

Feeling inspired to create a SlideShare of your own? Make sure you flip through Nick Demey's presentation first. He shares some tried-and-true tips for creating awesome presentations that rack up tons of views.

Here’s what works: right off the bat, Demey tells you how to get in touch with him. He’s already successful, so if someone wanted to reach out directly to his agency, they don’t have to wait until the end to connect with him.

11. Intro to Azure Data Platform by Karen Lope

Making technical information easy to digest is a formidable challenge, especially in a slide deck. Karen Lopez tackles the challenge in her slide deck. Her presentation makes use of tables and flowcharts — creating clear visual representations of complex technical ideas.

Pro tip: If you’re presenting on a complex process, find ways to explain each step using charts and infographics. A few images can help a greater portion of your audience understand what you do.

12. Insights from the 2022 Legal Trends Report by Clio

From a design perspective, your presentation should have imagery. However, these images don’t need to be photographs of a boring office. Consider something more abstract, like Clio has done below.

Each slide of the presentation includes simple objects, like triangles, rectangles, and circles. These shapes seamlessly integrate with the different charts and graphs in the presentation.

Pro tip: Instead of using cliche visuals, shapes, and patterns can give your presentation an artistic flair.

13. Displaying Data by Bipul Deb Nat

We admire this presentation for its exceptional display of data — now this post will explain how to do the same in your own presentations.

I also love how this presentation is concise and minimal, as it helps communicate a fairly advanced topic in an easy-to-understand way.

What works: This presentation example has a clear objective — showing the audience how to effectively display data. Because of that, the visuals here take center stage, expanding on the meaning of the text, which makes it easy to absorb the key takeaways from the presentation.

14. 2022 GWI's Social Report by GWI

In this presentation, Leticia Xavier shows the power of a limited color scheme. She uses different shapes of pink and purple to create contrast. All of the graphs, backgrounds, and images use different hues of the same colors.

When she breaks the color scheme, as she does on slide 12, the viewer’s attention is immediately recaptured.

Pro tip: If you’re worried about contrasting visuals, pick one or two colors. You can then choose different hues and tints of these colors to make your slides cohesive.

15. Digital 2023 Global Overview Report

If you’re looking for a dark color scheme to replicate, look no further. This slide deck from DataReportal uses a deep blue background throughout its presentation. Graphs are in bright yellows and greens, while the text is white.

Remember to keep a high level of contrast between your text and your background. This will make your slides easy to read.

Pro tip: If you’re going to present in person, consider your environment when choosing a color scheme. If the lights will be off in the room, a dark background will work for your slides. If everything will be bright, a light background with dark text will be easier to read.

16. How to Turn Wild Opinions into Traffic, Backlinks, and Social Proof by Animalz

good presentation example, animal

SEO’s changed a lot in the past two decades. Most of us are concerned with keeping up with the latest and greatest changes. This presentation walks through today’s marketing landscape, where everyone has both opinions and ways to express them.

What we love: This presentation uses emojis, a staple of the social media world, as a stand-in for bullet points. Smart presenters match design elements with their subject matter.

17. 5 Killer Ways to Design the Same Slide by Crispy Presentations

While keeping everything consistent can be good for branding, it can also prevent people from noticing the new content you’ve put together. This presentation shows you a few different ways you can design the same slide — all depending on what you want it to accomplish.

What we love: Everyone who sees the title instantly knows what they’re going to learn. It’s short, which makes it easy to consume in very little time.

18.   The HubSpot Customer Code by HubSpot CTO Dharmesh Shah

good presentation example, customer cod

When it comes to working with a company, it helps to set customer expectations and to clearly lay out your value proposition. HubSpot does both in the slide deck below. Instead of relying solely on product images, this presentation includes drawn images and lively colors.

Pro tip: Use bright colors for different words and phrases that you want to stand out. These will naturally catch your viewers’ eyes.

19.  ThinkNow Culture Report 2022 by ThinkNow

Thus far, we’ve seen slides that use neutral backgrounds that contrast with colorful charts and graphs. In this presentation, ThinkNow successfully subverts expectations.

The slides use colorful icons and accent colors in magenta and yellow. Meanwhile, graphs throughout the piece are made in black and white. This works well by creating high-contrast, easy-to-read visual representations.

Pro tip: Don’t be afraid of using classic color schemes like black and white. These simple colors can balance out loud accents.

20 . How to Gain a Massive Following on Instagram by Buffer

good presentation example, buffer

When choosing a presentation topic, find ways to hook your audience. For example, this presentation from Buffer makes use of a numbered list. Listeners know exactly what they’ll get from the presentation and how far along in the presentation they are.

Pro tip : Keep your slides simple. Instead of choosing a text-heavy design, Buffer limits text on the slide just to each tip.

The best PowerPoint presentations have gorgeous designs, give insanely actionable takeaways, and provide down-to-earth advice.

Learn from the presentation examples above to create your own that represents all three.

How to Use SlideShare for Marketing Watch Overview

How to Use SlideShare for Marketing

According to Alexa (before the service was retired), SlideShare is one of the top 200 sites in the world. SlideShare itself claims to have 80 million visitors a month, most of whom arrive via search engines.

That’s a lot of traffic— so how can you take advantage, and use SlideShare as part of your content marketing activities to grow your visibility and market your business?

  • Siphon off traffic for your own website...
  • Generate leads ...
  • Build authority and credibility...
  • Grow your search engine visibility...
  • Attract followers on your other networks...
  • Grow engagement on social media...
  • Plus various other benefits …

Are those enough reasons to love SlideShare?

In this post, I’ll show you exactly how to create and publish content on the platform, and use it effectively for marketing.

The good news is that:

  • There’s very little competition…

What Is SlideShare?

In brief, think YouTube, but for slideshows.

Users can freely register and publish slideshows on the platform.

Just as with other content platforms like Medium , by publishing content regularly and consistently you attract followers and grow an audience, and that helps your engagement and results from SlideShare grow over time.

A Brief History of SlideShare

SlideShare was founded in 2006 by Rashmi Sinha and Jonathan Boutelle.

LinkedIn acquired the platform in 2012 for $119 million.

LinkedIn itself was bought by Microsoft in 2016, with SlideShare then sold to Scribd in 2020, partly to help LinkedIn focus on their core objectives.

While it’s currently unclear how Scribd (billed as the “ world's largest digital library ”) will develop SlideShare, the intention is apparently to keep it as an independent platform.

Content will remain on SlideShare after the Scribd acquisition

What Type of Businesses Should Be Using SlideShare for Marketing?

If you’re in a B2B business, it’s likely you will find SlideShare beneficial for your organic marketing .

That includes:

  • Content amplification
  • Lead generation
  • Increasing engagement with other content
  • Generating website traffic
I have a little content marketing secret. It’s called SlideShare... With just 12 slide deck presentations and 3 infographics uploaded to SlideShare, I've had over 650k views of my content. Donna Moritz , Social Media Strategist

It's less applicable for B2C businesses.

SlideShare is similar in terms of demographics to LinkedIn , generally attracting a professional crowd who tend to be affluent, and keen to develop their careers and businesses.

That means the leads and traffic you can attract as a result tend to be high quality.

However, as I’ll show you, not all the results come from the SlideShare website itself.

SlideShare presentations can also be embedded into content you've published elsewhere, delivering a number of advantages such as increased engagement with that content.

How to Create a SlideShare Presentation That Markets Your Business

There’s no reason to start creating a presentation with a completely blank slate.

A much easier and quicker approach is to simply repurpose an existing blog posts.

It's a relatively straightforward process and can be easily delegated or outsourced.

Here's the process I follow...

1. Create the Outline Document

The first step is to create an outline document on which your slideshow will be based.

To do this, go through the blog post that you're repurposing, creating a document to plan out the content of each slide.

This will give you an overall structure before you then dive into creating actual slides, and is much easier to edit and move things around while still in this format.

As an example of how to approach this, if the following were the first couple paragraphs of the blog post:

First paragraph of a blog post ready for repurposing as a SlideShare

You might convert this into your document as follows, with a simple notation to separate one slide from another:

Script outline slideshare

You'll note each slide only contains short, succinct text.

Here are some general tips on creating this outline document:

  • Minimize the text on each slide —each slide needs to be easy for people to just scan and move onto the next one, thereby keeping them engaged.
  • Create headline slides to split up the narrative and provide a sense of structure.
  • Use bullet points liberally to help viewers quickly scan the information and move them through your presentation.

2. Build the Slideshow

Use appropriate software to build the slideshow itself.

Out of habit, I tend to use Google Slides, but you can just as easily use Powerpoint or Keynote, or online-based software designed for the task such as Canva , Visme and beautiful.ai .

There are two main approaches people generally use:

  • Have attention-grabbing images on each slide, with the text superimposed.
  • Focus on the information, with plainer-looking slides which are still designed to be engaging.

I generally take the latter approach as it’s quicker to create the slideshows while still delivering results.

Create the Look and Feel

Your first SlideShare may take longer to create as you’ll need to figure out how you want it to look.

But the good news is it then gets quicker and easier, as your first one can simply be used as a template.

So get started by creating the overall look and feel, before you start adding more slides and building the presentation.

Here’s how to approach it:

  • Aim for a consistent look and feel throughout —ideally this should match the style of your brand. This sense of consistency boosts results when people click through from your slideshow to your website or social media profiles.
  • Add your domain name/logo to each slide —I usually put this in the bottom right-hand corner. This attracts some people to your website to find out more information about you even if they don’t reach a specific call to action .

You can link your domain name/logo directly and make it clickable, but there is a disadvantage in doing this.

Namely, when you publish a SlideShare, the text from each slide is extracted and published beneath the presentation as notes. This includes any underlying links which end up showing as plain text.

So, if you have added the same link to each slide, the notes beneath can look less than professional, and this can hurt engagement levels.

Creating the Presentation

The header slide— the first slide in your presentation —should be visually appealing in order to attract attention and encourage people to view it.

The header slide is what’s shown when your SlideShare is:

  • Listed on SlideShare
  • Shared on social media (it's used in the social meta tags for the presentation page)
  • Embedded into other web pages

It should also therefore contain the title of the presentation so it’s clear what it’s about.

Most SlideShare’s are actually pretty poor in this area, often because people have simply uploaded presentations used in other environments (such as speaking engagements), and given little thought to how it will work online.

For example, here’s what one from Dropbox looks like, presumably originally created a stage presentation:

SlideShare from Dropbox

It doesn't exactly make for compelling online viewing!

Whereas this one from Gary V makes it very clear what it’s about and is a lot more engaging:

SlideShare from Gary V

Just as the headline is the most important part of a sales letter, this header slide is the most important part of your SlideShare presentation.

Its sole purpose is to get viewers to click on the presentation and view the next slide.

The purpose of each subsequent slide is to move viewers through your presentation until they reach your call to action (I’ll talk about this next).

With this in mind, it's important to consider that, just as with a sales letter (again), different viewers will have view it in different ways:

  • Some will read every word…
  • Others, likely the majority, will scan through more quickly

Your presentation must be designed to support both of these 'readership paths'.

Here are some ways to do that:

  • Reuse images from the blog post you're repurposing from to support the information in your presentation and make it more engaging. Speed up the creation of your presentation by including the links to any images you want to use in your outline document (see previous section).
  • Add additional images and graphics where they add value —for example, I sometimes use arrows and checkmarks for bullets. For additional images, see our lists of top free or paid stock photo sites.
  • Use bold and italics for certain words to increase engagement and make it easy to scan the information.
  • Similarly, use different colored fonts where appropriate.
  • As already mentioned in creating the outline document, use bullet points liberally . Increase engagement by using different graphics for the bullet points, rather than just a plain black dot.
  • Use curiosity and intrigue to compel viewers to click to the next slide. This can include asking a question to be answered on the next slide (e.g. How do we know that? ), and using ellipses (three dots, ‘...’) at the end of the last bit of text.

Include a Call to Action

To use SlideShare effectively for marketing, this step is crucial—yet so many businesses neglect it and forget to add any call to action at all.

Or even if they do add one, they then forget to actually make it clickable.

Just as you add calls to action into blog posts, articles and videos, you need to add them into your SlideShare presentations too.

See your SlideShare presentations as tools for lead generation, with the goal to convert as many SlideShare viewers as you can into leads.

Viewers of your presentation have found your information and are taking the time to go through your presentation—so it’s likely they would have a deeper interest in what you do.

Here's one of the most effective ways to convert viewers into leads:

  • Offer a relevant resource —in other words, a “Lead Magnet”. The more relevant your Lead Magnet is to your presentation and the more useful to the viewer, the higher your conversion rate is likely to be. You may already have such an offer for the original blog post you're repurposing, so use the same one!
  • Link through to a squeeze page —the easiest, quickest way to create one is via Optinopoli , using the Landing Mat creative (and this is even easier if you're already offering the same Lead Magnet on the original blog post).

For maximum click-throughs and traffic, make the link viewer friendly :

  • Not everyone will realise they can click it. So it should be uncomplicated, memorable, and short enough for someone to easily type in.
  • The domain of the link should match your domain name if referenced elsewhere in your slideshow (such as your domain name/logo in the bottom right corner)

Your call to action can work well on your final slide, but it can be added elsewhere too.

After all, you’re offering a relevant resource of value to viewers, and not everyone will reach the final slide—so increase conversions by mentioning it earlier.

And if you further repurpose your SlideShare into a YouTube video (more on that soon), it will increase conversions there too.

Recommended: See these 55+ examples of effective call to action phrases.

3. Upload to SlideShare

Before uploading, carefully review the presentation to make sure it doesn’t contain any typos or errors which can damage your credibility and kill conversions.

For best results, get someone else to look over it. Most of us can't see our own typos!

You then need to download the presentation in PDF format to upload it to SlideShare.

In Google Slides, just go to File > Download as > PDF Document from the menu.

Click File > Download as > PDF Document from the menu

(Note: you can also upload files to SlideShare direct from the cloud, such as from Google Drive or Microsoft’s OneDrive).

Log into SlideShare , and click the Upload button on the menu bar.

Click the Upload button in SlideShare

While uploading, check your title, and enter a description.

Your description should sound engaging and contain plenty of keywords to attract your target market, whether on SlideShare or on search engines like Google.

Aim to make it 2-3 sentences long.

While uploading add some details about your presentation

  • Select the most relevant category from the dropdown.
  • Add several keywords as tags, including long tail keywords (3-5 words or longer)

Once you’re done, check the Discoverability Score , it should be showing at max.

Check your Discoverability Score is at max slideshare

Click Publish to make your SlideShare live.

How to Promote Your SlideShare

Once published, it’s time to promote your SlideShare.

By sharing your presentation and driving traffic to it, you are:

  • Driving up the view count for your SlideShare—this boosts credibility, as well as visibility on SlideShare itself.
  • Spreading your message and attracting leads
  • Showcasing your expertise in your social channels
  • Increasing engagement for other content. More on that shortly…

For best results, create a post-publication process to follow each time you publish a new presentation on the platform.

Here are some ways to promote it...

Share It On Social

Share the link for your presentation across your social media channels, such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

But don’t use blink-and-you’ll-miss it marketing, sharing it just once and then forgetting about it…

Aim to share it several times over the next few weeks and months to attract as many eyeballs as you can, and convert social media followers (low value) into leads you can communicate with directly (high value).

Embed It Into Blog Posts

The information in your SlideShare can be used to enhance blog posts back on your website and help keep visitors on the page, providing additional value.

By encouraging visitors to stick around for longer, this helps your search engine rankings , increasing search traffic.

It also converts more of your visitors into leads (see the Call to Action section above).

Plus, embedding it gives you a higher SlideShare view count, adding credibility and attracting further views.

It's easy to do—first, just click the Share button just beneath the SlideShare.

Click Share

You’ll then see a couple of embedding options as follows.

Get the embed code

Use this option if you use a blogging platform other than Wordpress.

For WordPress, you'll generally need to use the WordPress Shortcode option below.

But if you're on WordPress and still want to use this option for whatever reason, add the code to your post via the Code editor .

Access this by clicking the top three dots to the far right of the menu, and then click Code editor .

Switch to the code editor in Wordpress

Copy the Embed code from SlideShare and paste it into the required location in your post.

2. WordPress Shortcode

The shortcode can be copied and pasted directly into your post.

Paste into your post

TIP : To control the size of the embedded SlideShare, add width and height parameters to the end of the shortcode. Here’s an example:

Add width and height parameters to the SlideShare

Embed into Content on Other Content Platforms

In a similar way, you can embed your SlideShares into content you have on other platforms. It only takes a few seconds to do, and again:

  • Increases your SlideShare view count.
  • Attracts new leads.
  • Boosts engagement with and visibility of the content you’re embedding it into.
  • Helps to showcase your expertise and grow your audience.

For Medium , you literally just have to paste the link.

After a second or two, your SlideShare will be displayed.

Embed your SlideShare into Medium by just pasting the link

LinkedIn Articles

LinkedIn was, as mentioned, the previous owner of SlideShare and, thanks in part to their shared history, it’s really straightforward to embed a presentation into a LinkedIn article .

To do so, click the icon in the left-hand margin, select Slides , and then just paste in the link to your SlideShare presentation.

Embed your SlideShare into a LinkedIn article

SlideShares can be also featured on your LinkedIn profile, helping to:

  • Showcase your expertise
  • Generate leads from profile views
  • Increase your SlideShare view count
  • Scroll down your profile to the Featured section and click the + icon
  • Click on the Links option
  • Paste in the link to your SlideShare

Add a SlideShare to your LinkedIn profile

Your SlideShare will then be automatically imported, including the description you added to your SlideShare when first uploading it.

How to Update a SlideShare

One big drawback of SlideShare is that you can’t update an existing SlideShare on the platform.

The only way to do it is to start afresh with a new one, deleting the old. That means:

  • Your previous likes and other stats don’t get carried over
  • It’s published on a new link
  • It breaks any embeds for the previous SlideShare

An update feature did originally used to be available, but for whatever reason was removed shortly after Microsoft bought the site in 2016.

Hopefully SlideShare’s current owners, Scribd, will see the light and bring it back!

Now you know exactly how to create a SlideShare and promote it, and you're familiar with the various ways in which publishing SlideShares benefits your business.

To finish, we'll recap exactly how to use SlideShare for marketing so it’s crystal clear how to get maximum benefit from the platform, including how to use it to:

  • Grow your traffic...
  • Build authority...
  • Improve social media engagement…

I’ll even show you how you can use your SlideShares to develop a presence on YouTube!...

How to Use SlideShare to...

Grow your traffic.

There are two main ways to do this directly:

1. Show your domain name on each page of the presentation.

This can be via a logo or text on each slide.

As stated earlier, it’s best not to link it on each page or it shows repeatedly in the text beneath, which isn’t the best experience for viewers.

But viewers will still look up your website out of interest and curiosity.

2. Link directly to your website.

Do this wherever you have a call to action, as covered earlier.

For example, you might link through to a squeeze page on your website that offers a useful free and relevant resource, and in so doing...

Generate Leads

Remember, the leads generated from SlideShares tend to be relatively high quality:

  • Viewers of the presentation are obviously interested in the information provided
  • They’ve moved far enough through the presentation to reach your call to action
  • By the time they opt in they already have some familiarity with you and your business

Build Authority and Credibility

SlideShares present a showcase of your expertise. You’re sharing what you know.

That immediately provides a certain level of authority and credibility in the mind of the viewer.

As your views to the SlideShare increase (I’ve covered several ways to do that), this adds social proof and boosts your authority further.

Grow Search Engine Visibility

As you’d expect, SlideShares appear in Google’s search engine results.

If you’ve followed the model suggested here of repurposing an existing blog post, you effectively gain another opportunity for your content to show on search for particular keywords.

In other words, for a single keyword search, you could have both your original blog post and your SlideShare showing in the same listings, not to mention other places you repurpose the same content to .

In addition, SlideShares also appear on image search, showing the header slide of the presentation, and this can help attract further viewers.

Attract New Followers on Social Media

There are a few main ways your SlideShares can help build your social media followers:

  • Within your SlideShare, perhaps on the final slide, provide opportunities for people to follow you, linking to the relevant profiles. Here’s an example from a presentation sponsored by Hootsuite:

Include your social links

  • Provide say your Twitter handle in the footer of each slide, alongside your domain or logo, so people can look you up. (Again, as mentioned above for your domain/logo, don’t link this directly ).
  • Share your SlideShares on social, growing your visibility and attracting followers that way too.

Don’t forget, you can attract followers and grow your audience on SlideShare itself too, helping to amplify your future presentations.

Grow Engagement on Social Media

As mentioned, share your SlideShares across your social media channels—for channels like Twitter and LinkedIn, do so repeatedly.

Improve Your Blog’s Bounce Rate

Embed the SlideShare into a relevant blog post (as covered above), and you’ll keep people on your website for longer on average, improving search engine rankings and attracting more search traffic.

Embed SlideShares into either:

  • The original blog post the SlideShare was repurposed from—this gives visitors an alternative way to get the information from your post.
  • Related blog posts —for example, show a SlideShare to help explain a relevant topic, but one that’s outside the scope of the blog post itself.

Grow Visibility and Engagement on Medium

Are you repurposing content for Medium too?

If so, embed SlideShares into your Medium posts too. See above for how.

(If not, here’s why you probably should be).

In doing so, people will spend longer on your Medium posts, boosting your visibility on the platform, attracting more readers and growing your Medium audience.

Create YouTube Content

SlideShare presentations can be easily repurposed into YouTube videos.

This can be an easy way for businesses to:

  • Gain or increase their presence on YouTube
  • Build an additional audience on a separate platform
  • Grow visibility on both Google’s and YouTube’s search engines.

There are a number of approaches you can take in repurposing it. Try:

  • Recording your screen as you add a voice-over to the presentation
  • Walking the viewer through the presentation with a face-to-camera video, editing the video later to add screenshots from the presentation
  • A mixture of the two, with the presenter shown on screen as they go through the presentation

See this post for more information on how to make engaging video content.

It’s Not Just SlideShare…

Submit your slideshow to other presentation-sharing websites too….

Although the most well-known, SlideShare isn’t the only show in town for sharing presentations.

Here are some other sites you can try submitting your presentations too for additional reach and visibility:

  • Scribd —yes, the owner of SlideShare.
  • AuthorStream
  • Speaker Deck
