10 things to do when you feel like your dissertation is killing you

A surprising number of people google ‘my dissertation is killing me’ every month. Writing a dissertation is not an easy task: It can be tough, regardless of what level. If you feel defeated, discouraged or exhausted because of your dissertation, check out 10 concrete things you can do to improve your situation.

1. Identify the nature of your struggle

2. reach out to your supervisor/s and peers, 3. reach out to family and friends, 4. find an accountability partner, 5. look for professional support, 6. take a proper break, 7. develop a daily routine that incorporates rest and fun, 8. prioritise your health, 9. consider extending your studies, 10. consider quitting your programme.

Okay, so you feel like your dissertation is killing you. But what does that mean?

Identifying the nature of your struggles is an important first step to improving your situation.

• Are you struggling to develop the direction of your thesis, and find the right literature?
• Do you have a hard time focusing, while you feel anxious about the upcoming deadlines?
• Do you feel like you are working non-stop, and have no time for hobbies or friends?
• Do you feel depressed and struggle to get up in the morning?

These are just a few examples. So take a minute or two and identify your individual struggle with your dissertation.

Supervisors are there to support you during your dissertation process. That’s their job. Too many students struggle behind closed doors but pretend that everything is going okay during meetings with their supervisor/s.

If you struggle with your dissertation, take the courage to reach out to your supervisor/s. Supervisors can help you to overcome challenges in your dissertation in terms of content. They can also provide you with useful tips on concentrating, writing or maintaining a work-life balance.

The same is true for peers. Once you are open about your struggles, you may be surprised to hear that you are not alone. Connect with your colleagues and find ways to help each other.

Everyone who struggles with a dissertation has different needs. A common tendency, however, is to feel stressed and overwhelmed, and as a consequence to withdraw from social interactions. However, this is a bad idea.

When writing a dissertation, you need all the support you can get!

Maybe it helps you to plan fun outings with your friends in the evenings so that you have something to look forward to when you work on your dissertation during the day.

Or maybe all you need is a daily phone call with your mum or your best friend, to feel less lonely and know that someone is rooting for you.

Reach out to your family and/or friends and tell them how you feel. Be concrete about the type of support that you could benefit from.

Beyond reaching out to peers, family and friends, it can be extremely useful to find an accountability partner.

An accountability partner is a person who keeps you to your commitment. This commitment could be, for instance, to write 500 words every day.

Accountability partners tend to be people who are in the same boat. This means, in our case, they are writing a dissertation as well. However, you do not need to limit your search for an accountability partner to other dissertation writers.

Furthermore, be creative. For example, if you don’t know anyone else who is in a similar stage of your dissertation, or if you don’t get along with your colleagues or peers, you could join an online writing group.

When you struggle with your dissertation, just know one thing: you do not have to figure out everything by yourself!

Many universities have student councillors and other support mechanisms that can help to you overcome roadblocks and find suitable professional support. This can range from writing support, to coaching or mental health counselling.

There is no shame in asking for help! On the contrary, admitting that you struggle and looking for (professional) support is a sign of courage and strength.

Many students suffer from mental health issues, including loneliness, persistent sadness, depression, anxiety, or hopelessness. If you do, know that you are not alone and that there is support available.

Our brains are simply not wired to work non-stop. Additionally, when we are stressed or anxious, our cognitive functions decline.

While it seems completely counter-intuitive to take a proper break when you are trying to write your dissertation, it can make a world of difference!

Taking proper breaks could entail a strict time to close your dissertation files every day at 6 pm to enjoy the rest of the evening. Or it could be taking a whole week off, including a change of scenery so that you can recuperate.

And I promise you: You will notice the difference in the way you can tackle your dissertation after taking a proper break.

Humans thrive on routines. Take an energy audit to figure out when you are most creative or most productive throughout the day. Then, set up a daily routine around these times.

One key element of developing a daily routine is to schedule your breaks in advance. This can include short breaks to check emails or social media, or to stretch. It can also include longer breaks to take a walk, have lunch or meet a friend for coffee. You could also try the Pomodoro method .

When you know that your daily routine accounts for rest and fun, it is much easier to focus on your dissertation.

Remember, writing a dissertation is a marathon, not a sprint. Incorporate activities that give you energy, so you will not be completely exhausted at the end of the day.

Without a healthy body or mind, it is much harder to tackle a dissertation. Therefore, do what you can within your powers to prioritise your health:

• Exercise provides your brain with oxygen, and can reduce anxiety and stress!
• Try to eat healthily. A salad for lunch instead of a McDonald’s burger will make you feel better and prevent that mid-afternoon slump!
• Prioritise sleep for more efficient thesis writing . Proper sleep improves your cognitive capacities, can reduce anxiety and improve your quality of life!

Some struggles are not solved by exercising, eating healthy or talking with your supervisor. While all these steps can help to improve your situation, they may not solve your problems.

So if you feel like your dissertation is killing you, check if there are any options to extend your studies to give you more time. For instance, to take a proper break to recover, or to reduce the number of hours you have to work on your dissertation every day.

Extending your studies could involve making use of a resit deadline a few weeks after the official submission deadline. It could also involve extending your studies for one more semester to finish your dissertation.

Extending your studies is not a sign of failure. Many students do it! There are simply so many expectations and requirements packed into a degree that it is sometimes hard to complete within the allocated time.

Last but not least, don’t shy away from asking yourself the tough question: Is it worth it to push through to (try to) complete my dissertation, or would it be better to quit my programme?

This is of course a tough decision to make. However, if you feel like your dissertation is killing you, consider this option.

Nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING is more important than your health and well-being. Also not your dissertation.

No one ever said that getting a Ph.D. is easy (trust me, no one!), and the hard truth is that it’s no walk in the park. While graduate students’ experiences in their doctoral programs vary widely, almost everyone hits a wall at some point during the dissertation process. The reality is, writing your dissertation is likely the greatest intellectual challenge you’ve ever faced. Most graduate students encounter one or two major roadblocks along the way. 

It’s not all gloom and doom, though. While everyone thinks their dissertation is plotting their demise at one point or another, it’s a natural feeling and one that can be combated. If you feel like you’re on the verge of a meltdown, don’t despair. Take a day or two, if you need it, figure out the root of the problem, and then form an action plan. You’ll be back on the road to finishing your Ph.D. in no time.

When I was writing my dissertation, getting organized was essential. Having a plan helped me stay on track and also keep my sanity. While it didn’t change the amount of work I had to do, knowing exactly what was ahead of me was reassuring. 

As soon as you can, work with your dissertation chair or Ph.D. advisor to develop a dissertation timeline . Use a template to map out each milestone of your dissertation, from your dissertation prospectus , to your proposal , to each chapter of your dissertation. From there, you can build a rough timeline to help you meet your goals for completing each milestone. Sharing this timeline with your chair or advisor (plus a writing partner or a coach ) will help you stay accountable and on target for your dissertation defense. 

In my experience, creating accountability is vital for finishing your dissertation. Writing your dissertation can be a lonely process, and it can be hard to generate the momentum you’ll need when you’re doing it on your own. In addition to reaching out for support, it can also be helpful to make calendar appointments with yourself to create a daily writing habit. Dedicating as little as fifteen minutes a day to your writing can make a noticeable difference in your mindset. 

What Resources are Available for Help?

While holding yourself accountable is an important key to finishing your dissertation, please know that you don’t have to go through the process alone. Chipping away at your dissertation can be a lonely endeavor, and reaching out to others who understand what you’re going through is a great way to feel less isolated and more engaged with your research. It’s important to realize that there are people you can rely on for support when you feel like your dissertation is killing you. 

So who can you turn to? While your Ph.D. advisor or dissertation chair are the usual suspects, the amount of time they have for you may be limited. If you don’t have a mentor-mentee relationship with them, they also may not be a natural choice if you’re seeking a bit of TLC, or even a shoulder to cry on. That’s okay–there are others you can seek out for additional support.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to members of your cohort. When I was working on my dissertation, it was very helpful to meet up with classmates and compare notes about how things were going and books/articles that illuminated the murkiness. A quick coffee date is also a great way to raise your spirits. Even in online programs where you don’t see each other face-to-face in class, Zoom meetings or Google Hangouts are a perfect way to commiserate and share resources. 

Additional Resources

In addition to working with faculty and classmates, there are other resources you can seek out when it feels like your dissertation is killing you. If you need help making a plan and sticking to it, a Ph.D. coach can be a great source of knowledge and support. Developmental and content editors are also helpful consultants during the writing and editing process, and great people to have on your team.

U.S. issues travel warning for Israel with Iran attack believed to be imminent and fear Gaza war could spread

Tel Aviv  — Israel is bracing for a worst-case scenario that U.S. officials believe could materialize within just hours — the possibility of a direct attack on Israeli soil by Iran in retaliation for a strike almost two weeks ago that killed seven Iranian military officers. Iran has vowed to take revenge for Israel killing its commanders, who were hit by an April 1 strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria's capital.

Two U.S. officials told CBS News that a major Iranian attack against Israel was expected as soon as Friday, possibly to include more than 100 drones and dozens of missiles aimed at military targets inside the country. Sources have told CBS News the retaliation could include attacks carried out both by Iranian forces, and proxy groups around the region that it has been funneling additional arms to for weeks.  

The officials said it would be challenging for the Israelis to defend against an attack of that magnitude, and while they held out the possibility that the Iranians could opt for a smaller-scale attack to avoid a dramatic escalation, their retaliation was believed to be imminent. 

Asked Friday how imminent he believes an attack is, President Biden responded, "I don't want to get into secure information, but my expectation is sooner than later." The president urged Iran not to move forward, saying his message to Tehran was: "Don't."

Tehran has not indicated publicly how or when it will return fire, so it's unclear how far Iran's leaders will go. If they decide to carry out a direct attack on Israel, there's fear it could blow Israel's ongoing war against Iranian ally Hamas up into a much wider regional conflict.

With the Iranian retaliation expected at any time, the U.S. State Department on Thursday warned Americans in Israel not to travel outside major cities, which are better protected from incoming rocket fire by the country's Iron Dome missile defense system. The latest guidance noted that travel by U.S. government employees in Israel could be further restricted with little notice as things develop in the tinderbox region.

"Whoever harms us, we will harm them," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Thursday as he visited troops at an Israel Defense Forces airbase. "We are prepared … both defensively and offensively."

On Saturday, all U.S. embassies in the Middle East were put on high alert and required to hold emergency action committee meetings. Diplomats in Lebanon and Israel were specifically told not to travel to certain areas within those countries.

Sima Shine, a security expert and former official with Israel's national intelligence agency Mossad, told CBS News it was a dangerous moment for the region, and the "most worried" she has been. She said anxiety over an all-out war was likely just as high "on both sides, in Israel and in Iran."

If Iran does choose to strike Israel directly, it could involve a complex missile and drone attack similar to the one Iranian forces launched against a Saudi oil facility in 2019 .

"They will try to do it on the military or some military asset," Shine predicted. "But the question will be the damage. If there would be many injured people, killed or injured … I think it has the potential for a huge escalation."

Shine stressed, however, that she still believes neither side actually wants a regional conflict.

U.S. "really trying to avoid war"

The U.S. sent a senior general to Israel this week to coordinate with the close American ally on any response it might make to an Iranian attack. Speaking Friday on "CBS Mornings," America's top military officer said, "we're really trying to avoid war."

"This is part of the dialogue that I have with my counterparts within the region, to include the Israeli chief of defense, who I talked to yesterday," said Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr., adding that the U.S. military was "doing things not only to prevent a war, but at the same time, one of my primary things is to make sure all the forces in the region are protected."

"My role, as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, is to plan and prepare," Brown said. "That's one thing we do very well."

Brown's Israeli counterpart, Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, "completed a comprehensive situational assessment on the readiness of the IDF for all scenarios," Israel's military said Friday. 

"The IDF is very strongly prepared, both offensively and defensively, against any threat," Halevi was quoted as saying in the statement. "The IDF continues to monitor closely what is happening in Iran and different arenas, constantly preparing to deal with existing and potential threats in coordination with the United States Armed Forces." 

The IDF said the visiting U.S. general, Central Command chief Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, was taking part in the IDF's situational assessment.

The dilemma for Iran, said Israeli expert Shine, is to figure out how to deliver its promised response to Israel's attack in Syria, but in a way that does not lead to further escalation. Likewise, Shine said Israel could choose to show restraint when it responds to whatever Iran eventually does.

If either side gets the balance wrong, the consequences for the region, and even the world, could be dire.

One person was killed and 13 others were injured Friday when a stolen semi careened into a Department of Public Safety office in Brenham, Texas.

The truck was being pursued by multiple law enforcement vehicles when it crashed into the office, DPS Sgt. Justin Reese said at a news conference. The driver had been denied a commercial driver's license at the location Thursday, he said.

The suspect was identified as Clenard Parker, 42.

While he was there Thursday, "the drivers license staff advised Parker that he was not eligible to renew his commercial driver’s license," Reese said.

The person who died has not been identified publicly. Five others were hospitalized, officials said. Eight people were treated at the scene and released, they said.

Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura said the driver tried to back up and crash into the building again but was thwarted by first responders, preventing further tragedy.

"There would have been a collapse of that building," the mayor said at the news conference.

Several officers took the suspect into custody, Reese said. He was being held at the Washington County Jail, he said.

A Washington County Sheriff's Office deputy and possibly other law enforcement officers came across the tractor-trailer near a McDonald's not far from the DPS office, Reese said.

Multiple law enforcement units, including the deputy's, tried to stop the truck, but the driver led authorities on a pursuit on U.S. 290 headed west and then, using its loop, east, before moving toward the DPS office, he said.

"The stolen 18-wheeler took a hard right turn" into the structure, Reese said.

Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said the incident was intentional and “done by the suspect who was denied a CDL yesterday.”

“He returned today with intent to harm. Continued prayers for the DPS staff, troopers and civilians affected,” Keough said in a Facebook post.

State Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, said the familiar office is part of a common experience for the community.

“We’ve taken our children to get their drivers license there," she said at the news conference. "I’ve gotten my drivers license there. It’s a place of public service."

She continued, "And so what we’ve seen today is an act of violence."

Three of the injured were taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where they’ve been stabilized, a hospital spokesperson said. They all suffered minor injuries from debris from the building, the spokesperson said.

Aerial video from NBC News affiliate KPRC of Houston shows a large semi in the parking lot of the office, aimed at the building and partially backed out into the street.

The helicopter video shows that the entrance of the building appears to be severely damaged.

The public was asked to stay away from the area, Texas DPS said on X .

Texas Rangers were leading an investigation into the crash, officials said.

"The building is not going to be usable at this point, so it's going to be shut down for a little while," Texas DPS Maj. Gerald Brown said at the news conference.

Brenham is located about 73 miles northwest of Houston.

Maine’s supreme court overrules new trial in shooting of Black man

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine’s supreme court on Thursday reversed an order for a new trial for a Portland man who was convicted of manslaughter for shooting his sister’s boyfriend.

A judge last year vacated Mark Cardilli Jr.’s 2019 manslaughter conviction and granted a new trial after concluding that his trial attorneys provided inadequate counsel. Cardilli was freed on bail after the judge’s decision.

Now, Cardilli faces the possibility of going back to prison to complete the remainder of his 7 1/2-year sentence. His lawyer, Thomas Hallett, said he and Cardilli were “deeply disappointed” and were reviewing his legal options.

Cardilli testified that he fatally shot Isahak Muse in self-defense during a confrontation that escalated after Muse refused to leave the Cadilli family’s home when asked by the parents. Cardilli was 24 at the time, and Muse was 22.

The shooting caused tension in Portland’s Muslim community, with some calling it a hate crime by a white man against a Black Muslim.

But Cardill’s attorneys argued that the case was not about race or religion but about the limits of state self-defense law.

The confrontation happened when Muse, who was dating Cardilli’s 17-year-old sister, refused to leave after a 1 a.m. curfew set by the parents. Muse was barred by the sister’s bail conditions from being in her presence, court documents indicated.

Pandemonium broke out, and Cardilli retrieved a handgun. Cardilli said he was assaulted by Muse and feared for his life when he pulled the trigger.

As Genosha experienced a major mutant massacre, it also became the end for some of the oldest X-Men characters, as it resulted in a number of casualties.

In an interview with Screen Rant , Castorena was asked if Gambit and Magneto are officially dead, and whether or not there were other mutants they were considering killing off in X-Men '97 season 1, episode 5 . The head director and supervising producer confirmed that the iconic Marvel characters are indeed dead, but invited audiences to focus their minds on a different emotion than grief. JAKE CASTORENA: Oh, absolutely. The decision was never finite, like, "We're doing this, we're killing so and so and that's it." This might scare fans, but it changed a bit, it bounced around on who it would be because for sake of story, for sake of pushing character arcs and tying everything in, based on where story trajectory was going, [it] was based on what character it was going to be. But ultimately, obviously, we landed on Gambit and, Magneto. We know someone, a.k.a. Rogue, who is, especially in our show, who was very much intertwined with both.

I implore audiences to ponder and be curious about what that would do to someone of Roque's caliber and potentially, I would say focus less on what we have lost and I would focus on more who or what lies ahead, if that makes sense for you. But ultimately, at the end of the day, Gambit and Magneto are dead and we'll have to watch the series unfold to further understand what those consequences are going to be for not just for our team but for potentially for the rest of the world.

What x-men '97's major deaths mean for the future.

With how X-Men '97 season 1, episode 5, ended , this will obviously be a major fallout for the rest of the season, as two core characters from the original show have fallen. For Rogue personally, it was clear in the episode that she will be the one to be affected the most, given her ties to Magneto and Gambit. Whether or not this will potentially take her down a dark path remains to be seen, but given how Rogue was willing to take out the Wild Sentinel, it is possible that her arc will get rougher in the coming episodes.

As far as the rest of the X-Men go, they have now lost another leader, even though they were reluctant about Magneto to come on board at first. They now have to deal with the fact that, in a very short period of time, they have had to see both Professor X and Magneto, two mutants with a complex dynamic, be taken away from them. As they grieve Erik's sacrifice, the team will have to try to figure out who will lead them in Magneto's place.

Looking at society as a whole, the tragic massacre in X-Men '97 season 1, episode 5, will likely also bring a major political discussion to life in their world, as there will most certainly be sides that are either pro or against this incident. With the rights of mutants still being fought for, the genocide of Genosha could start a whole new battle for the team, as there are bound to be differing opinions on how to proceed after this. For now, the audience will have to wait and see what transpires in X-Men '97 season 1, episode 6, and beyond.

"Do you think you can keep yourself safe?"

Jacqueline has been in my office for about 10 minutes. The tears she’s kept choked back begin to flow down her cheeks. She shakes her head “no” and looks down at the floor. She’s been my patient for a little over a year, and in that time she’s been hospitalized about once a month. This is the first time she’s shown me the depths of her pain; usually her family brings her into the ER after they find a razor blade stashed under her bed or discover her with a rope around her neck.

I begin to fill out the required paperwork while thanking Jacqueline for being honest with me and praising her recovery. She asks if she can call her family. I say yes, of course, and even though I don’t speak Spanish I can guess how the conversation is going. Jacqueline speaks in hushed tones. The voice on the other end sounds frazzled, almost angry. I write down in detail when she told me she wanted to kill herself, how she plans to do it, the number of times she’s tried before. After a few minutes, we’re both ready. I put on my coat, and together we walk from the outpatient clinic where I work to the main hospital building across the street.

Jacqueline and I have been meeting weekly, and we’ve developed a good working relationship. It’s hard for me to see her down like this, although I admire her vulnerability. According to Freud , I’m supposed to be committed to neutrality and work to contain my own wish to see Jacqueline happy again. I also remember that Freud’s case notes show that he didn’t practice this himself, so I decide to plunge ahead and tell her something that’s been on my mind lately.

“You know, Jacqueline. I do have some news. My wife is pregnant .”

She’s the first patient I’ve told. My wife is now safely outside of the first trimester, so I no longer feel as worried by the possibility of a miscarriage . Jacqueline’s face lights up instantly.

“She is? Oh my God, that’s so wonderful! I know you’re going to be such a great father.”

The smile remains on her face as we walk into the ER, even though I’ve just signed an affidavit swearing that she is at imminent risk of harm. I motion her to one of the vinyl couches in the waiting room while I speak with this charge nurse, and once I am finished we sit next to one another. The television in the corner silently flashes the day’s news. I show her ultrasound pictures on my cell phone, and we wait for her name to be called.

The day on which I hospitalized Jacqueline was in many ways an ordinary day. The clinic where I work is the outpatient psychiatric department of a safety net hospital on the West Side of Chicago. After Jacqueline was admitted, I went back across the street to the clinic and saw six other patients the same day, all with varying levels of need.

The movement to create clinics like the one where I work began in 1963 when President Kennedy signed the Community Mental Health Act. This act delegated federal funds to build community mental health centers across the country, a notable shift away from the institutional model of years prior. Kennedy’s sister Rosemary underwent a forced lobotomy in 1941 that left her with the intellectual capacity of a two-year-old. I like to think that Kennedy had this in mind when he offered an alternative, humane way to treat those with mental illness.

As people with serious mental illness were increasingly encouraged to live in their communities, the need for robust out-patient mental health services based in the community increased. Unfortunately, the growth and availability of such services did not proceed nearly as rapidly as the pace of deinstitutionalization, and the gaps in care continue to the present day. For those states with the poorest options for mental health care, providers (social workers like myself, counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners) would have to treat six times as many patients as those in well-funded states. Of course this is impossible, so instead people are forced to do without.

In Alabama, for instance, there is one mental health professional per 1,260 residents. Alabama doesn’t even rank last in terms of the percentage of the state budget allocated to mental health services; at 1.5 percent, they’re ranked thirty-fifth in the nation. Arkansas is last with just 0.7 percent. Mental health services are rarely a priority and were particularly hit by cuts made in the wake of the 2008 recession; states slashed at least $4.35 billion from their mental health budgets between 2009 and 2012. The most recent statistics from the Bureau of Health Workforce tracking Health Professional Shortage Areas that lack adequate healthcare estimated that 110 million Americans, roughly a third of the country (but concentrated in urban and rural areas), lack access to a psychiatrist.

Access to mental health services in Chicago, like so many other things, depends upon your ZIP code. If you live in one of the richest neighborhoods, such as the Gold Coast, there are 4.41 mental health professionals per 1,000 residents. Travel to the Southwest Side where I work and that figure drops to 0.17. But it hasn’t always been like this. In the 1960s and 1970s the city had nineteen community mental health centers spread across the city. Various mayoral administrations chipped away at this until the city was left with twelve. Then came Rahm Emanuel who closed six more of them.

Teen charged in Preston Lord killing posts bail, released from jail

A juvenile charged in connection with the fatal beating of Preston Lord was released from jail.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday that Talyn Vigil, 17, posted bail. He is under electronic monitoring, according to the Sheriff's Office. Vigil was arrested on March 6.

Lord, 16, died two days after he was assaulted at an Oct. 28 Halloween party in Queen Creek.

Vigil is one of seven people charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in connection with Lord's death. A Maricopa County grand jury also indicted Treston Billey, 18; William "Owen" Hines, 18; Jacob Meisner, 17; Talan Renner, 17; Taylor Sherman, 19; and Dominic Turner, 20. Renner, Meisner and Vigil were charged as adults.

Billey, Meisner and Turner also were charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a necklace  that authorities say was taken from Lord's friend as the attack unfolded.

A $1,000,000 bond amount was ordered for each of the defendants. The other six were still in custody as of Friday morning.

Snapchat post: 'I hit a kid ... then got word he died so idk'

Vigil had made incriminating statements about his involvement in Lord's death, according to an interview and a social media post. His former girlfriend told police that just minutes after the fatal beating, he climbed into a car and bragged: "I knocked that kid out."

The girl's mother recounted the moment to The Arizona Republic in a December interview. Karli Heinmiller said her daughter was interviewed by detectives who later had her walk them through the crime scene.

After the attack on Lord, Vigil appeared to make a confession on Snapchat. A screenshot of the post has circulated widely on social media and appears many times in police investigative records.

"I hit a kid and this kid feel hit his head and then they kicked his head in the ground then i got word he died so idk," the post read.

The Republic could not verify the authenticity of the post. The teenager and his parents have not responded to multiple interview requests about it.
