Essay on Junk Food in 250 Words

Junk food refers to the unhealthy food. Consumption of junk food such as pizzas, burgers, fried items, pastries, etc. has alarming consequences. Its effect is witnessed as the global obesity epidemic because the masses are more inclined towards eating junk food.

Impact of Consuming Junk Food

Food high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats contributes to weight gain. It will ultimately cause obesity. Obesity is the key source of other diseases that are difficult to cure. Some of the chronic diseases that occur due to the consumption of junk food are high risk of heart failure, GIT disorders, hypertension, diabetes, etc. So, it is crucial to eliminate or reduce the consumption of unhealthy food and replace it with nutritional food.

Affordability

Another factor that contributes a lot in favour of a high intake of junk food is its affordability. Junk food is more accessible as it is available on the streets at a cheaper price. The price factor affects people who cannot afford healthier options. Thus, people tend to consume junk food that is comparatively more affordable and accessible.

Taste over Nutritional Value

Nowadays, people are more inclined towards enjoying the taste of food. It’s obvious that crispy and spicy food will attract you more as compared to salads and pulses i.e. much healthier options with high nutritional values. Consuming junk food on a regular basis has become common for many, and this has led to homogeneity in their diets. So, it’s important to choose the healthy option over a tastier option to minimize the negative health impact due to junk food.

In conclusion, having junk food occasionally is acceptable when you visit any party or celebrate any occasion. However, its regular consumption will disturb your dietary habits and also hamper your health for the long term.

IELTS Model Essay: Schools have the social responsibility to discourage children from eating junk food

feel free to call us    +61.4.50973975      [email protected]

IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic.

Schools have the social responsibility to discourage children from eating junk food. Others think it is the parent's responsibility. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer :

In the modern world, the popularity of fast food such as burgers, fries and nuggets is on the rise, and it has become the most commonly eaten food among children. Nevertheless, its use is a cause of concern for many health experts, claiming that children must be discouraged from eating this type of food as it poses certain risks for health . While some people assert that schools should take the leading role to address this issue, others believe that it is clearly the parents job to prevent their children from eating such food.

Eating fast food can be associated with multiple health risks, and teachers and instructors at school should stop their students from consuming junk food. As children spend plenty of time at school, it is a teacher's job to educate their pupils about the health hazards such as obesity , hypertension and other morbidities from eating fat rich foods. Furthermore, school administration should remove all the  carbohydrate rich content from their canteen and replace it with health friendly eatables, namely vegetables and other organic foods. Recently, Food and Drug Regulatory Authority in the U.S. has passed a legislation to abort the practice of distributing fast food items in schools all across America. As a result, obesity index of students has plummeted in the U.S. Hence, it is clear that schools have a major role in improving their students' health standards by removing fast food from the territory.

On the contrary, it might be thought that parents should train the diet habits of their children. This can be achieved easily if they only provide their wards healthy food instead of fast food right from the beginning. For instance, they should add more vegetables and fruits in their meals.  By doing so, children's taste buds will develop a liking for natural foods. If parents adopt such measures for their children, they will not indulge in unhealthy diet consisting of pizza, chips and Coke in the future. Therefore, it is clear that proper nurturing of young ones can play an important role in conforming their diet habits.

junk food essay for ielts

In conclusion, even though parents should teach their children the importance of natural, health friendly foods, I believe that it is precisely the job of school management to educate their students to conform their diets to match healty standards. This will bring long lasting benefits in their lives in terms of their physical and mental fitness.

Junk Food Among Teenagers IELTS Essay

Many people argue that eating junk food has led to an unhealthy lifestyle. This problem has become more common among young people these days. Do you agree or disagree that junk food is the cause of the issue?

Most people, around the globe; deem consuming fast food as the primary cause of an unhealthy lifestyle, and believed that youngsters are the common group of people that mainly affected by this change. This contentious topic has been profoundly debated in several forums. I agree with the statement that having junk food is one of the causes of health issues.

Throwing weight behind my view, there is no denying that teenagers are the popular consumers of fast food and they are aware it is not healthy and its side effects. This is because most teenagers are students, and the fast-food chains sell their products for a very cheap price that can be easily afforded by students. For example, “Hungry Jacks” is one the famous fast-food restaurant in Australia and their food was really cheap, on top of that they give 2 scratch cards every day to get free food and drinks or even half price on some items which definitely cannot be ignored by the young people or any group of people. ielts-essay

Having said that, consuming these junk foods every day in their life disrupts the metabolism and the immune system. Young people tend to think that they have a good immune system and that their bodies could process those foods easily. However, plenty of scientific studies and research have proven that taking junk food regularly could harm one metabolism and over the period one will have serious health issues like high blood pressure, obesity, and even cancer. For example, North America is the most consumer of junk food as a result they have a higher obesity rate among youngsters. Therefore, rather than visiting fast food regularly, they should do home food more often.

To conclude, it is indisputable that junk food is one of the primary sources of several health issues. I agree that teenagers are the biggest consumers of fast food due to the undeniable offers, but it is recommended to have self-control and eat more home-cooked foods to avoid certain health issues.

Introduction

  • Paraphrase the topic of the essay.
  • Paragraph 1 – The spread of food to far-away places is cost-ineffective. Such fees related to gasoline, transportation delivery, staff management and other types of insurance are way beyond the pocket of suppliers. However, economically, it bestows upon both producers and consumers more noticeable benefits.
  • Paragraph 2 – The second disadvantage of this trend is believed to trigger the inability to control the quality of food and growing dependence of each nation. The past has shown that Roman, as a consequence of relying on food chain supply of other nations, ever saw its power going into steep decline whereas the task of far-distance distribution can hardly ensure the thorough examination between suppliers and buyers, and trigger unwanted virus damaging the food.
  • Conclude the essay by summarizing the topic and providing an inference.

Sample Essay

We all need food to survive. It is thought that with the domination of cutting-edge technology, such as airplane, food is accessible to everywhere while others see it as a danger, rather than a boon . I totally support the mobile trend in food distribution .

First of all, opponents of this tendency argue that the spread of food to far-away places is cost-ineffective . Such fees related to gasoline, transportation delivery, staff management and other types of insurance are way beyond the pocket of suppliers. However, economically, it bestows upon both producers and consumers more noticeable benefits. Due to scarcity of food in some areas, as a result of frozen or extremely scorching weather, crop failures are predictable, leading to a skyrocketing price . Hence, with the in-time delivery from other zones which are available in this type of needed food, the prices can be curbed and their taste is fully satisfied while businessmen who truly prioritize the demand of customers over others gain a huge amount of profit. Besides, as living standards of human escalates non-stop, their need for varied food, from eastern to western, is more urgent than ever, especially in times of globalization. As there goes a saying “ variety is the spice of life ”, food transported from thousands of miles away from its farm is inevitable.

The second disadvantage of this trend is believed to trigger the inability to control the quality of food and growing dependence of each nation. The past has shown that Roman, as a consequence of relying on food chain supply of other nations, ever saw its power going into steep decline whereas the task of far-distance distribution can hardly ensure the thorough examination between suppliers and buyers, and trigger unwanted virus damaging the food. Nevertheless, gone are the days that food was easily ruined by external factors when refrigerators and other types of modern innovations are employed to keep food fresh and pasteurize it effectively. Another point is that Roman might have seen a quick economic recovery if successfully developing other industries to compensate for their lack of food supply . Geographically, each nation is born to be in a location which could be either suitable or hostile to food production, but by focusing on their inherent strengths and exchanging their products, food supply and other types of products are readily accessible to both, and at the same time, this is conducive to heightening the specialization in their production and maximizing their output in general. Moreover, with this trend growing ever-prevalent , procedures of supervising food set up by food experts are internationalized. Entering the market of Wal-mart in America, customers are able to choose the lowest price dishes, while still feeling satisfied with their quality by dint of clear markings of out-of-date and usage attached to each item. Equally important, this tendency is a contributor to pressuring local food companies to continuously enhance their quality; otherwise, customers will turn to other markets for better ones with less cost.

All things considered , I strongly hold onto the view that more gains than pains are realized in this scenario for its cost-effective, motivational, win-win benefits for customers, producers and governments.

The system followed by grocery traders and merchants for procurement of fresh supplies is quite sophisticated in this day and age. Since the production of farm products is restricted to rural areas, transportation is the only avenue for obtaining fruits and vegetables for the urban market. Although there are various underlying reasons for this trend and there is a debate on whether such a system is feasible or not, this has been the conventional method followed by businesses across the globe. In the following paragraphs, I will explore and provide answers to the questions posed by the topic.

To begin with, we are all aware of the fact that agricultural activities are most prevalent in the countryside. Since rural areas are less polluted and the land is rich in nutrients, farming activities are abundant in such places. Thus, the primary supply of products like fruits and vegetables comes from rural areas. Moreover, due to the abundance of free land, the establishment of huge farms and plantations is easier in the country.

On the other hand, the demand for such farm products is greater in urban areas due to cities and towns being more densely populated. Consequently, traders have to bear enormous expenses on transportation so that these products are made available to the urban population in supermarkets and grocery stores. Although such expenses can be managed by large scale organizations with economies of scale, the same is not possible for small-time businesses. Furthermore, there are other costs like proper storage of these products as they are perishable in nature. All these limitations make this current approach costly and impractical for new and small-scale vendors.

In conclusion, I would like to say that even though the framework of procuring farm products through long-distance transportation is widely practised, it is not suitable for various reasons. As the integrity and the quality of such products become questionable when travelling huge distances from rural to urban areas, an improved process that is both efficient and cost-effective has to be implemented.

Automatic Refunds and No More Hidden Fees: D.O.T. Sets New Rules for Airlines

The Transportation Department issued new requirements on refunds when flights are canceled or delayed and on revealing “junk” fees before booking. Here’s what passengers can expect.

A blue airport screen showing extensive cancellations and delays is shown in close up with a man standing in front of it.

By Christine Chung

The Transportation Department on Wednesday announced new rules taking aim at two of the most difficult and annoying issues in air travel: obtaining refunds and encountering surprise fees late in the booking process.

“Passengers deserve to know upfront what costs they are facing and should get their money back when an airline owes them — without having to ask,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a statement, adding that the changes would not only save passengers “time and money,” but also prevent headaches.

The department’s new rules, Mr. Buttigieg said, will hold airlines to clear and consistent standards when they cancel, delay or substantially change flights, and require automatic refunds to be issued within weeks. They will also require them to reveal all fees before a ticket is purchased.

Airlines for America , a trade group representing the country’s largest air carriers, said in a statement that its airlines “abide by and frequently exceed” D.O.T. consumer protection regulations.

Passenger advocates welcomed the new steps.

Tomasz Pawliszyn, the chief executive of AirHelp, a Berlin-based company that assists passengers with airline claims, called it a “massive step forward and huge improvement in consumer rights and protection” that brings the United States closer to global standards in passenger rights.

Here’s what we know about the D.O.T.’s new rules, which will begin to go into effect in October.

There’s now one definition for a “significant” delay.

Until now, airlines have been allowed to set their own definition for a “significant” delay and compensation has varied by carrier . Now, according to the D.O.T., there will be one standard: when departure or arrival is delayed by three hours for domestic flights and six hours for international flights.

Passengers will get prompt refunds for cancellations or significant changes for flights and delayed bags, for any reason.

When things go wrong, getting compensation from an airline has often required establishing a cumbersome paper trail or spending untold hours on the phone. Under the new rules, refunds will be automatic, without passengers having to request them. Refunds will be made in full, excepting the value of any transportation already used. Airlines and ticket agents must provide refunds in the original form of payment, whether by cash, credit card or airline miles. Refunds are due within seven days for credit card purchases and within 20 days for other payments.

Passengers with other flight disruptions, such as being downgraded to a lower service class, are also entitled to refunds.

The list of significant changes for which passengers can get their money back also includes: departure or arrival from an airport different from the one booked; connections at different airports or flights on planes that are less accessible to a person with a disability; an increase in the number of scheduled connections. Also, passengers who pay for services like Wi-Fi or seat selection that are then unavailable will be refunded any fees.

Airlines must give travel vouchers or credits to ticketed passengers unable to fly because of government restrictions or a doctor’s orders.

The vouchers or credits will be transferable and can be used for at least five years after the date they were issued.

Fees for checked baggage and modifying a reservation must be disclosed upfront.

Airlines and ticket agents are now required to display any extra fees for things like checking bags or seat selection clearly and individually before a ticket purchase. They will also need to outline the airline’s policies on baggage, cancellations and changing flights before a customer purchases a ticket.

The rules, which apply to all flights on domestic airlines and flights to and from the United States operated by foreign airlines, have varying start dates.

For example, automatic refunds must be instituted by the airlines within six months. But carriers have a year before they’re required to issue travel vouchers and credits for passengers advised by a medical professional not to fly.

The IELTS is administered jointly by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment at over 1,100 test centres and 140 countries. These test centres supervise the local administration of the test and recruit, train and monitor IELTS examiners.

IELTS tests are available on 48 fixed dates each year, usually Saturdays and sometimes Thursdays, and may be offered up to four times a month at any test centre, including Elektrostal' depending on local needs.
