Culver's celebrates National FFA Week with essay contest
Since its founding in 1984, Culver’s has passionately advocated for the importance of agriculture in providing ingredients for great food and in creating a better world. As National FFA Week (Feb 19-26) approaches, the national restaurant chain is celebrating its relationship with the organization of future agriculture leaders by launching its eighth annual FFA Essay Contest.
Culver’s longstanding relationship with FFA is part of its Thank You Farmers® Project, an initiative that aims to celebrate and advocate for the role of farming in creating a more resilient and sustainable world.
“We know how important it is to promote the impact of agriculture in the world, and FFA members are among the young leaders working toward that mission,” said Alison Demmer, Culver’s marketing specialist and former Wisconsin FFA president. “The Essay Contest gives them an opportunity to continue exploring their passion and use their voice to share the importance of agriculture in the world while also trying to earn money for their FFA chapter.”
Three winners will be selected, earning prizes of $7,500, $5,000 and $2,500 for their FFA chapters to pursue additional educational projects and initiatives. Culver’s has awarded over $100,000 in prizes to contest finalists since 2015.
In addition to the option of writing an essay, participants will again have the opportunity to enter a video submission for the contest.
This year’s prompt is: Agriculture impacts the world in so many ways. Share three ways the industry is making a positive difference that you want people to know about.
Written essays (1,000 words or less) and videos (five minutes or less) will be accepted at culvers.com/essaycontest until the deadline of April 11, 2022, at 9 a.m. CT. Students must be active members of their FFA chapter for the 2022-23 academic year in order to be eligible.
CDEs & LDEs
Career Development Events and Leadership Development Events are designed to recognize FFA members for their development of skills related to the events. These events align with content that is taught in agricultural education classes. Teams and individuals representing the chapter should be chosen through local contests following related classroom instruction.
Kentucky FFA Career Development and Leadership Development Events are governed by the rules on this page as adopted by the Kentucky Association of Agricultural Educators (KAAE.) While the National FFA Career Development Event guidelines may provide helpful resources, they should be used as a reference only.
General rules for all Kentucky FFA contests and events are listed in Rules Governing FFA Events . Rules for specifc events are psoted below along with score sheets and other materials that may be helpful in preparing for these events. Accommodations may be requested by advisors by completing the Accommodations Form and submitting it to the Executive Secretary at least 21 days prior to the event.

The winners of the contest are receiving hefty monetary awards to fund for their FFA chapters. In all, $15,000 was awarded to further learning opportunities. The FFA members chosen to receive awards are: First place ($7,500): Katlyn M., Clyde FFA in Clyde, Ohio. Second place ($5,000): Gwen H., Cambria FFA in Randolph, Wisconsin.
The essay must be 500 -1000 words (two to four pages not counting the cover page and bibliography) and written on the provided topic. Essay entries must be typed, double spaced, and have a cover sheet with the participant's name, FFA chapter, and age. Essays should be bound in a folder in the following order: cover page, essay, and bibliography.
The FFA Essay Contest is part of the Thank You Farmers® Project, an initiative created by Culver's that encourages smart farming through agricultural education programs. The Thank You Farmers Project has donated over $4 million to agricultural education over the last ten years and awarded $100,000 to FFA Essay Contest finalists since 2015.
