If there is a country’s flag that stands out among all other countries it is the flag of Nepal . Our flag is very unique and cannot be compared to other countries’ flags due to its shape. It also has a hidden meaning behind it which represents the country’s peace-loving and friendly nature, bravery, and immortal history.

My country Nepal is situated between two countries, India and China. Although it is sandwiched between international powers, conflicts have not happened between any, and peace remains. Nepal is a country of various castes and cultures. In other words, it is like a beautiful garden of flowers with people of different ethnicities and backgrounds.

My country Nepal is not only unique for its flag but also its geographical terrain, the variety of castes and cultures you can find, and the rich history of it. It is the land of various great places and important figures that people know far and wide. The temperature here spans from cool to hot and is a heaven for residing in.

There are about 126 castes in Nepal each with its own rich history and culture which makes Nepal a rich place for culture. Some dating back to the millenniums. Not only that, our country is very rich in its geographical terrain. From the lowest point of just 70 Meters from sea level to the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest (8848.86 meters) , we have temperature scales that vary from place to place. It is divided into three regions, Terai, Hilly, and Himalayas each according to their altitude and geographical differences.

Himalayan regions have high and mighty Himalayas that are breathtaking to look at. Out of the world’s top 10 highest peaks, 8 of them fall in my country. It is already a great pride to have come from such a country. The diverse flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes, lush and green jungles, historical and religious places in Nepal are enough to gather the attention of foreigners and locals too. People from all over the world pay thousands of dollars just to see our country’s snow-capped mountains, rivers, cliffs, waterfalls, other beautiful landscapes, the rich flora and fauna, and sites of great religious and historical importance. It just doesn’t end there.

Our country ranks in the top 5 for the richest in water resources. With just a small country with an area of 1,47,181 sq kilometers, it has the potential to fuel hydropower worth 2% of the entire world. It may look small in number but taking our country’s small area in context, it is a potential incomparable to all. The Terai region holds fertile land and smooth flowing waters that are excellent for farming and cultivating.

Nepal is also known as an agricultural country where 60% of the people here follow agriculture as their work. Our country also has huge historical importance. Gautama Buddha the founder and preacher of Buddhism which is practiced worldwide was also born in Nepal. Buddhism is known to preach peace and non-violence and to love everyone. King Janak is also an important figure who holds great importance to communities in Nepal.

Other personalities include Bhrikuti, Araniko, etc. Our country is also known for its bravery. Our country never has to celebrate Independence day as we were never under the rule of any other. We stood and fought against the Britans and other Mongol countries. Brave Gorkhalis were united after a long struggle and fought their way to preserve their country. The courage and bravery of Nepali people are also know world wide. Many brave Gorkhalis went to fight under countries in world wars and won various colors and medals. This brought our country so much respect that we even enjoy it for granted to date.

Although our country’s history, culture, terrains, and achievements make anyone feel proud, the power struggle for the politicians, previous kings, and presidents have made the country weak and fall in the developing country category. Our rich natural resources have not been utilized and we have fallen way behind. Corruption is widely prevalent in our country and the loans we have taken from other countries are in a large number. The amount of food and other materialistic consumption has made Nepal import more and export less.

Our country is poor but the people here are rich. This is because of the corruption and the illegal working/trading that has been done. The government has not made significant progress and the people aren’t responsible. Although I feel proud to be A Nepali, the condition of my country makes me feel bad. People should feel responsible and carry out their duties and not just complain about the government.

The government too should implement proper policies and rules and enforce them accordingly. Utilization of our natural resources should be done in an effective way and social evils such as discrimination according to castes and genders, other superstitions should be slowly removed. Centralized development should stop and we should control the people moving out to other countries with their skills that are wasted abroad. This way we can slowly develop our country.

To understand the historical and contemporary context in which schooling education in Nepal developed, one has to raise certain questions: When and how did formal school education evolve? How did the state regulate the opening of schools before and after the 1950s? How did intersectional dynamics of caste, class, gender and societal politics play in the establishment and expansion of schools? How the state-led ‘nationalisation’ of schools and ‘standardisation’ of curriculum shaped the knowledge and impacted the learning experience of children from diverse social backgrounds? Readers will get answers to these questions in the book ‘School Education in Nepal: History, Politics and Society’ published by Martin Chautari, a Kathmandu-based research organisation.

Education system in Nepal – Research Essay

Introduction

In my research essay, I explore the education system in Nepal. I am already aware that the education system in Nepal was based on home schooling and Gurukula, but since they become a democracy in 1951, they have made many improvements. It is my intention to find out what those improvements are.

Methodology

My main methodology will include reading written research on the subject from local libraries, University libraries, and trusted online resources. I will also research and read records and websites relating to trusted statistics. They have school and higher education, where a student has to apply for higher education as people have to in other countries.

A student gets a school-leaving certificate for completing school and getting their education. Grades 11 and 12 are considered higher secondary education, for which a student gets a certificate for completing by the HSEB, which is the Higher Secondary Education Board.

If you opt for higher education, then you may earn your bachelor degree, masters and PhD in a Nepal college. There is also vocational education that starts in lower school and allows a person to work towards a trade and get a “Technical School leaving Certificate”. Research

The first school in Nepal was made only for elite learners and was opened in 1853. More have come about since democracy broke out in Nepal, and again in 1971 when the country built its education department and started allowing and funding schools in Nepal.

In 1971, there was a literacy rate of 5%. There were also a total of 10,000 students spread across 300 schools. Now much of the population receives some sort of education and the number of schools, big and small, is 49,000. The adult literacy rate has jumped from just 5% to 60.3%.

Nepal has done a good job to come so far in such as short space of time, but there is still a long way to go. Poverty and social exclusion are two very big restraints on people and their ability to get a good (or usable) education. There are also more males getting an education than females. There are 46.3% of females getting an education, whereas there are 73% of males getting an education. These are very good figures and show that the government in Nepal has been working towards improving the education system in Nepal. Conclusion

The education system in Nepal is not as bad as it was, but there are still massive holes in their education system. They really need to up the pace if they want to get anywhere near to the quality levels of many other countries.

There are clearly more opportunities for students in Nepal these days than there was, and they have certainly created a good structure on which to build a good education system, but it needs a lot of work. Too many people are excluded from school because of poverty or social exclusion, and females are not getting as good of an education than male students are (especially since fewer females attend school).

There were 22 or 24 sets of states in Nepal, which were unified by the King of Gorkha, Prithvi Narayan Shah. It was called Nepal, with its capital in Kasthmandu, presently known as Kathmandu. Jungbahadur Rana established the Rana Dynasty, which ended after 104 years. Later, the monarchy came, which was finished in 2063. Now we are practicing it as a pure democratic country. My country has been divided into three geographical zones: Terai, Hills, and Mountains, including Valleys. The culture of one place does not completely resemble that of another. The wear, food, and standards of living also differ. There is a difference in language, too. Religious tolerance exists among people of various ethnic groups: Hindu festivals are celebrated by Muslims and others. Similarly, Hindus also participate in the festivals of minorities. There is no history of communal riots in my country.   I am more proud that the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, Kapilvastu (Lumbini), is here. He established Buddhism, which is followed approximately all over Asia and partly on other continents, too. Janakpur is well-known for giving birth to Sita, the incarnation of the goddess Laxmi.   Thus, I am proud of my country because it is a source of inspiration for the whole world. It has its glory and natural history that can bring it up more and more, and my pride will be spreading day by day. I'll proudly say I am Nepali, and my country is Nepal.

Our country, Nepal, is a landlocked country. It is located in South Asia, between two massive countries, China and India. India lies to the south, east, and west of Nepal, whereas the Chinese autonomous region of Tibet lies to the north. It is divided into three distinct geographical zones: the highest Himalayan range, the hills, and the low-land hills. It is an agricultural country full of natural resources. The highest peak, Mt. Everest, is in Nepal.

Life in a mountainous region is extremely difficult. There is a lack of transportation. So people living there rely on air transport. Cultivation is also very difficult, so it is famous for the husbandry [cattlekeeping] occupation. Hilly areas contain some road facilities. They have stair-like fields for cultivation. But the lowland region is an appropriate place for good cultivation. The cultivation and products from it vary according to place and climate. In the Himalayas, it is very cold. In hilly areas, it is temperate, but in the low-land hills (terai), it is sometimes too hot and sometimes too cold.

Our country is called the second-largest country in the field of water resources. There are many rivers in our country. They are the Mechi, the Mahakali, the Seti, the Koshi, the Bagmati, the Kamali, the Narayani, the Gandaki, the Rapti, the Bheri, etc. But we don't get many advantages from it. Similarly, it is full of natural resources, but we are unable to take advantage of them due to a lack of money, good technology, and strong will. There are only a few factories in our country. But we are unable to provide them with electricity to run them smoothly.

We must be willing to utilize natural resources to develop our nation; we should advertise its beauty all over the world so that lots of tourists can come here. We should also try to save its beauty. We should take an oath to maintain unity among its citizens forever.

But even after nature blessing our country, we have not been able to fully utilize it. Problems such as corruption and political instability run deep in the country. Our natural resources are not being taken care of properly and our country is being poor day by day. People are rich but the country is poor. Poverty is also seen in our country. Lack of proper management of wastes has also polluted our water and slowly destroying our forests. This also means our plants and animals are slowly being extinct. Illegal hunting and farming of precious animals and plants are also ruining our ecosystem.

This is why to save our country from further danger and poverty proper management and a responsible leader are required. The citizens of our country should also feel responsible for the country and not only blame the leaders. Proper plans and policies should be required to protect our resources. Social evils such as discrimination should also be tackled. Conservative-minded people should be given awareness and strict punishments for corruption and other illegal acts should be given. Employment opportunities should also be created as many people are leaving the country for jobs abroad.

' Unity in Diversity' defines my country. Located between two of the biggest countries in the world China and India, my country Nepal, is geographically smaller and a landlocked country. Nonetheless, eight of the highest peaks of the world lie here, Light of Asia, Gautam Buddha was born here, the highest peak of the world, Mt.Everest lies here. Also, 10 of the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites lie within this small country. Nepal is a historically, biologically, and spiritually a unique country in the world.

Though, Nepal's current geographical area is 1,47,516 sq.km., the Greater Nepal in 1804 was much bigger than what we have right now. Another surprising fact, yet a matter of pride is that we have never been the colony of foreign powers. So, we have never celebrated the Independence Day.

Geographically, our country is divided into three landforms: Mountain, Hilly and Terai. Altogether, people of 125 castes and 123 languages live here following their own tradition, culture and norms and values. Despite these major cultural differences, we are united to each other by a bond of sovereignty, mutual understanding and respect for each other.

The language of the country is Nepali. It is also one of the toughest language to learn in the world. You might have heard that our country's flag is the only non-quadrilateral flag in the world. This is true. It has two triangles with sun and moons in the middle of each. This symbolizes our existence till the sun and the moon exist in the universe. Our national animal is cow, national bird is Lophophorous, national flower is Rhododendron and the national color is crimson.

Our ancestors, also known as Bir Gurkhe, are known for their bravery. And, we have always been praised for our kind and generous nature. Every of the foreign tourists that visit our country always return to their home country taking positive vibes along with them. Showing hopsitality to the guests is well known to us.

While talking about our cultures, let us not forget we have numerous festivals, rites, rituals and cultural ceremonies. Among them, Indra Jatra provides us to dance with the God. As 81% of people of Nepal are the followers of Hinduism, Dashain and Tihar is celebrated in the happiest way here.

Nepal is also rich in biodiversity. We have been blessed with agricultural potential. Also, our country is an agricultural country. However, the inability of us to modernize and commercialize the agricultural sector adversely affects the economic prosperity of our country.

We are a federal, democratic, republican state and have our own constitution. To sum up, though we are limited geographically in a small land area, the happiness and pride in the eye of every Nepalese represent the greatness of our country, Nepal.

Nepal is a landlocked country with highly diverse and rich geography, culture, and religions. Nepal owns many snow-capped lofty mountains. The highest peak in the world, Mt.Everest attracts thousands of tourists every year. For administrative purposes, Nepal has been divided into seven provinces, and the provinces are divided into 77 districts. the districts   are further divided into municipalities and rural municipalities.

The magnificent mountains in the north, undulating slopes, passes, swift-flowing crystal-like rivers, lakes, valleys, tars, etc are attractive things that identify Nepal as a piece of heaven. It has been a major choice of a large number of foreign tourists for the last few decades. The world's highest mountain Mt. Everest, called the roof of the world identifies Nepal throughout the world. It also possesses a lake at the highest altitude, the deepest gorge, and so on.

We are renowned around the globe for not only our natural heritage but also for our cultural heritage. The major heritages that are listed in the World Heritage List such as Lumbini, Chitwan National Park, Sagarmatha National Park and many more introduce us as prosperous people of small heaven. Moreover, one can see several temples, and Kathmandu is a city of temples.

It is the land that gave birth to world-famous persons. Gautam Buddha, the preacher of peace and founder of Buddhism, Prithivi Narayan Shah, the builder of modern unified Nepal. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the first human to reach the summit of Mt. Everest with Hilary, etc. were those who possessed to Nepal. Not only them, but brave soldiers such as Bal Bhadra Kunwar, Amar Singh Thapa, Bhimsen Thapa, and others demonstrated extraordinary bravery in preventing the British empire from colonizing Nepal.

Though Nepal is a multi-lingual, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious country, there has not been any conflict between any group in the name of language, religion, or ethnicity. the unity among diversity that is prevalent in Nepal proves that Nepalese are cooperative and peace-loving. It also inspires other nations to follow its people's harmonious unity. Nepalese people respect guests as their gods since there is a popular belief that  "Atithi Debo Bhawa". It is a strong example to prove that Nepalese are spiritually rich though they are economically poor. Nepalese people love freedom and democracy. That is why they have fought several times for democracy through their leaders deceiving them time and again. Recently, Nepal has been declared a republic country and promulgated a new constituent.

The capital city of Nepal is Kathmandu. Nepal is known for its stunning mountains, natural beauties, as birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha and brave peoples. It is diverse in geography, culture, religion and people. 

Nepal is a democratic nation. The total area of Nepal is 141,181 sq.km. It is divided into three different geographic regions: hill, mountain and terai. Terai occupies most of the land area and is good for agriculture. Hill and mountain regions are cold, snow covered regions with complex geography. These regions have poor vegetation but they are rich in natural resources and biodiversity. 

The population of Nepal is around 29 million. The people in Nepal are diverse. Nepal is a secular nation where people of 125 castes/ethnic groups, who speak 123 different languages and follow 10 different religions reside. Though the country is ethnically and culturally diverse, there is no dispute or conflict between the ethnic groups. All people respect each other and live a happy and simple life. Every festival and ritual are celebrated with joy and happiness. 

Nepal is basically an agricultural country. So most of the GDP of the country comes from agriculture. Many people from Nepal have gone abroad for the sake of income. Thus remittance also has a great role in the economy of Nepal. Beside these, tourism is also an important part of Nepal’s economy. Many people visit Nepal to explore and adventure. Campus Protests Over Gaza Intensify Amid Pushback by Universities and Police

There were dozens of new arrests as universities moved to prevent pro-Palestinian encampments from taking hold as they have at Columbia University.

A wave of pro-Palestinian protests spread and intensified on Wednesday as students gathered on campuses around the country, in some cases facing off with the police, in a widening showdown over campus speech and the war in Gaza.

University administrators from Texas to California moved to clear protesters and prevent encampments from taking hold on their own campuses as they have at Columbia University, deploying police in tense new confrontations that already have led to dozens of arrests.

At the same time, new protests continued erupting in places like Pittsburgh and San Antonio. Students expressed solidarity with their fellow students at Columbia, and with a pro-Palestinian movement that appeared to be galvanized by the pushback on other campuses and the looming end of the academic year.

Protesters on several campuses said their demands included divestment by their universities from companies connected to the Israeli military campaign in Gaza, disclosure of those and other investments and a recognition of the continuing right to protest without punishment.

The demonstrations spread overseas as well, with students on campuses in Cairo, Paris and Sydney, Australia, gathering to voice support for Palestinians and opposition to the war.

As new protests were emerging, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, visited the Columbia campus in New York, where university officials were seeking to negotiate with protest leaders to end the encampment of around 80 tents still pitched on a central campus lawn.

Mr. Johnson said the school’s president, Nemat Shafik, should resign if she could not immediately get the situation under control, calling her an “inept leader” who had failed to guarantee the safety of Jewish students.

The speaker said there could be an appropriate time for the National Guard to be called in , and that Congress should consider revoking federal funding if universities could not keep the protests under control.

Republican lawmakers have accused university administrators for months of not doing enough to protect Jewish students on college campuses, seizing on an issue that has sharply divided Democrats.

Some of the campus demonstrations that have taken place since the war began last year have included hate speech and expressions of support for Hamas, the armed group based in Gaza that led the deadly attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, sparking the war that has left more than 34,000 people dead in Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

One of the biggest new protests on Wednesday was in Texas, where dozens of police officers, many of them in riot gear and some of them on horseback, blocked the path of protesters at the state’s premier public university, the University of Texas at Austin. At least 34 people were arrested after refusing to disperse, according to a state police spokeswoman.

Gov. Greg Abbott said that arrests there would continue until the protesters dispersed. “These protesters belong in jail,” he wrote on X . “Students joining in hate-filled, antisemitic protests at any public college or university in Texas should be expelled.”

Hours earlier, at the Dallas campus of the University of Texas, a large group of student protesters briefly staged a sit-in near the office of the university president, demanding divestments. The students left after the president agreed to meet with them.

At the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, the police moved in just before lunchtime to break up an encampment of about 100 pro-Palestinian protesters at the center of campus. As demonstrators chanted, “Shame,” officers tackled at least one protester and put that person into a campus police car, but the protester was later released.

Claudia Galliani, 26, a master’s student in public policy at U.S.C., said she was protesting “to stand in solidarity with the students of Columbia and other campuses across the States who are receiving brutality due to their advocacy for Palestine.” She said that the protesters had been ostracized and accused of antisemitism.

Many U.S.C. students were angered at the cancellation of a commencement address by the valedictorian Asna Tabassum, who is Muslim, after complaints from groups on campus that cited her support on social media for Palestinians.

“I think universities don’t want what’s happening on the East Coast to spread to the West Coast,” said Maga Miranda, a doctoral student in ethnic studies at the University of California, Los Angeles who joined the protest at U.S.C.

Protesters returned later in the day, but the university prevented, for the moment at least, a permanent encampment from being established, as the tents that had been forcibly removed in the morning were not re-erected.

Just before 6 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers ordered them to disperse and threatened them with arrest and expulsion from school. Many protesters moved outside of a police perimeter, but more than two dozen locked arms in the middle of the campus quad, some holding Palestinian flags.

Officers later arrested between 25 and 30 protesters, according to Sgt. Scott W. Wilhelm of the L.A.P.D.

At Brown University in Rhode Island, scores of students pitched tents on the campus’s Main Green on Wednesday. Organizers said their minds were on the children and students in Gaza, not on the administration’s warning that the new encampment violated university policy. They promised to stay until they were forced off.

“What we’re putting on the line is so minimal in risk, compared to what Gazans are going through,” said Niyanta Nepal, a junior from Concord, N.H., and the president-elect of the student body. “This is the least we can be doing, as youth in a privileged situation, to take ownership of the situation.”

She said the emergence of a national student movement on college campuses had galvanized Brown students. “I think everyone was ready to act, and the national momentum was what we needed,” she said. Rafi Ash, a sophomore from Amherst, Mass., and a member of Brown University Jews for Ceasefire Now, said the student protesters were in it for the long haul. “We’ll be here until they divest, or until we’re forced off,” he said.

Administrators at Harvard University sought to head off a similar scene by shuttering Harvard Yard, a central gathering place on campus. But students flooded the yard’s grassy patches anyway on Wednesday, rapidly erecting tents as part of an “emergency rally” against the suspension a pro-Palestinian campus group.

At Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, Calif., administrators said they were shutting down the campus through the weekend, concerned that protesters occupying two buildings could spread to others.

Late Tuesday, two students were arrested at Ohio State University, school officials said, during an on-campus protest that had since dispersed.

The protests at the University of Texas at Austin were among the first to take place in a Republican-led state in the South, occurring within walking distance of the governor’s mansion. Like other Republican political leaders, Gov. Greg Abbott has been outspoken in his support for Israel, and last month, he vowed to fight any antisemitism on campus.

University leaders on Tuesday said they had revoked permission for a protest and warned those who might seek to gather anyway.

“The University of Texas at Austin will not allow this campus to be ‘taken,’” two administrators from the Office of the Dean of Students wrote in a letter to the Palestine Solidarity Committee.

State police were deployed to the campus on Wednesday at the request of the university and at Mr. Abbott’s direction, said the state police spokeswoman, Ericka Miller, “in order to prevent any unlawful assembly.”

When protesters began to congregate despite the warnings, the response was swift. Scores of officers formed crowd-control lines, some clutching batons. After having ordered the protesters to disperse, some officers surged into the crowd and hauled several people away, then returned for others.

“Let them go!” some people shouted as the crowd grew.

At one point, hundreds of students and their supporters were gathered on the south mall of the campus, including some who gathered in a large circle and chanted, “Pigs go home!” Soon, the police moved in again, pushing through the crowds and making further arrests.

Ms. Miller said the majority of those arrested were charged with criminal trespassing.

In a statement, the university’s Division of Student Affairs said that the university would not tolerate disruptions “like we have seen at other campuses” and would take action to allow students to finish their classes and final exams “without interruption.”
