Review CAPP 60-31 Cadet Staff Handbook . If you are interested in a position above your grade, you may apply to be an Assistant in that area.

Submit the following by the application deadline. You may submit these in person or via email to the squadron Commander (1st Lt Tim Hagen). Please also copy the Deputy Commander for Cadets (2d Lt Jennifer Swanson).

  • Include (1) which position(s) you are applying for and why, (2) why you would be a good choice for the position(s), and (3) what you would do to improve the squadron through your service.

Cadet Commander

Commands the cadet squadron, sets goals for the cadet corps, and leads the cadets toward mission success, to include:

  • Establishing plans and procedures to accomplish the policies established by the unit commander
  • Directing cadet cadre and mentor subordinate cadets in their leadership and character development
  • Coordinating with senior staff and serving as liaison between senior staff and cadet cadre

Cadet Element Leader

Responsible for the supervision and training of the cadet element, to include:

  • Assisting the flight leadership in training cadet element members, especially in drill, uniforms, and customs and courtesies
  • Assisting the flight leadership in ensuring that cadet element members follow all safety rules that have been set for a given activity
  • Serving as a link in the unit’s chain of communication, passing cadre instructions down to element members and passing cadet feedback up to the cadre or senior staff
  • Ensuring element members wear their uniform properly, render military courtesies correctly, promptly correcting cadets as needed

This is the only command staff position open to C/Amn. C/A1C may also apply to be assistants to Support Staff Duty Positions. The cadet element leader should be familiar with CAPP 60-20 and CAPP 60-31.

Cadet Administrative Officer/NCO

  • Assist with taking attendance.
  • Organize sign-up rosters (currently SignUpGenius) for special cadet activities.
  • Maintain squadron calendar of events.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Cadet Aerospace Education Officer/NCO

Assists the senior member aerospace education officer in directing the cadet aerospace education program, to include:

  • Instructing cadets in aerospace subjects.
  • Tutoring cadets who require extra assistance in aerospace education.
  • Leading cadet aerospace activities and STEM kit laboratories
  • Serving as the cadet project officer during cadet orientation flight activities

The cadet aerospace education officer should be familiar with CAPR 60-1, CAPP 60-20, New Cadet Guide, CAPP 60-31, and aerospace resources on the national website.  

Cadet Cyber Education Officer/NCO

Assists the senior member aerospace education officer or cyber education officer in directing the cadet aerospace education program, to include:

  • Instructing cadets in cyber-related subjects.
  • Tutoring cadets who require extra assistance in cyber topics.
  • Serving as the cadet project officer or team captain during cadet cyber activities

The cadet cyber officer should be familiar with CAPR 60-1, CAPP 60-20, New Cadet Guide, CAPP 60-31, and aerospace resources on the national website.  

Cadet Emergency Services Officer/NCO

  • Assist the senior staff in training cadets in emergency services.
  • Assist the senior staff in developing emergency services plans.
  • Additional duties as assigned.  

Cadet Fitness Education Officer/NCO

  • Must be familiar with the PT/HFZ manual and the current testing process.
  • Assist in testing and ensure that the test scores are entered into eServices by the Senior Testing Officer or Fitness Education Officer.
  • Assist the First Sergeant in the planning and running of squadron PT nights.  

Cadet Leadership (Mentoring) Officer/NCO

This position is typically reserved for past executive staff. The cadet leadership officer instructs cadets in leadership topics and leads or supervises leadership activities. Because the duties are similar to those of a flight commander, commanders should carefully divide the labor of the two positions to avoid overlap.

  • Instruct cadets in leadership topics.
  • Coordinate and oversee local mentoring programs.
  • Support cadet drill and ceremonies training.
  • Mentor the NCO staff  

Cadet Public Affairs Officer/NCO

  • Take promotional photos, awards photos, and activities photos.
  • Provide photos to Senior PAO to post on social media.

Cadet Recruiting Officer/NCO

  • Assist the Senior Recruiting & Retention Officer.
  • Welcome and oversee all potential cadets until their registration process is complete (must attend 3 regular meetings).
  • Ensures that potential cadets are fully informed about the basics of what CAP is, the activities and classes cadets take part in each week, the various opportunities available outside regular meetings, and the steps to join.
  • Answer questions potential members might have (ask other staff if needed).
  • Send a follow-up email after a guest’s first meeting and provide helpful links and offer the chance to ask questions.
  • Send follow-up emails to guests who do not return; encourage them to return and ask if they have questions.
  • Track prospective members using a shared spreadsheet on the squadron Google Drive, so other members of staff can easily view the current status.  

Cadet Safety Officer/NCO

  • Assist the Senior Safety Officer in presenting monthly safety briefings.
  • Assist the safety officer in conducting risk management (RM) reviews during special events and when in the field.

Cadet Supply Officer/NCO

  • Assist the senior Supply Officer in outfitting cadets with uniforms and equipment. Keep track of Curry Voucher expirations.
  • Monitor inventory of chevrons, ribbons, and other items in the “squadron BX,” (base exchange or supply box) if one is maintained.
  • Prepare pins and ribbons for pinning ceremonies.
