Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Pocket Money

Introduction.

Pocket money is a small amount of money given to children by their parents. It is a practical way to teach kids about financial responsibility.

Importance of Pocket Money

Pocket money helps children learn about budgeting and saving. It teaches them the value of money and encourages them to make wise spending decisions.

Managing Pocket Money

Children should be guided on how to manage their pocket money. They can save part of it, spend some on their needs, and maybe donate a portion to charity.

In conclusion, pocket money is a tool to prepare children for the financial realities of adulthood.

250 Words Essay on Pocket Money

The concept of pocket money.

Pocket money, a concept as old as money itself, is an important tool in a young person’s journey towards financial literacy. It is essentially a small amount of money given to children by their parents or guardians on a regular basis.

The Importance of Pocket Money

Pocket money plays a vital role in shaping a person’s understanding of money management. It teaches the value of money and the importance of budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions. It also fosters a sense of responsibility, as one has to manage their own funds and prioritize their spending based on needs and wants.

Pocket Money and Financial Independence

Financial independence is an essential life skill that begins with managing pocket money. It’s a stepping stone towards understanding the complexities of the financial world. It empowers youngsters to make their own spending decisions, consequently teaching them about the repercussions of poor financial choices.

Potential Downsides

Despite its benefits, pocket money can also have potential downsides. If not properly guided, children may develop poor spending habits or a sense of entitlement. It’s therefore crucial for parents to provide guidance and set boundaries around the use of pocket money.

In conclusion, pocket money serves as a practical tool for teaching financial literacy from a young age. It’s a concept that, when used properly, can cultivate financial independence and responsible financial habits. However, it requires careful guidance to ensure it fosters positive attitudes towards money management.

500 Words Essay on Pocket Money

Pocket money, often considered a simple financial tool, is a profound concept that holds the potential to shape an individual’s financial understanding and habits. It is a small amount of money given to children by their parents or guardians on a regular basis. The concept of pocket money is not just about providing financial support for minor expenses, but it is a practical way to teach young people about the value of money and financial responsibility.

The Significance of Pocket Money

Pocket money serves as an essential learning tool for young adults, especially college students, who are at a critical juncture of their life. It helps them understand the concept of budgeting, saving, and spending wisely. By managing their own pocket money, they gain insights into the financial world, which is crucial for their future independence.

Moreover, pocket money can also help in fostering a sense of responsibility. When students manage their own money, they understand the importance of making wise choices and the consequences of their financial decisions. They learn to prioritize their needs and wants, which is a critical life skill.

The Challenges of Pocket Money

Despite its numerous benefits, pocket money comes with its own set of challenges. The primary issue is determining the right amount. Too little pocket money could leave students struggling to cover their basic needs, while too much could lead to reckless spending and a lack of appreciation for the value of money.

Furthermore, the misuse of pocket money is another concern. Without proper guidance, students might spend their money on unnecessary items or develop unhealthy habits, such as gambling. Therefore, it is crucial for parents and guardians to provide guidance and monitor the usage of pocket money.

Strategies for Effective Use of Pocket Money

To ensure the effective use of pocket money, it’s essential to implement strategies that promote responsible financial behavior. One effective method is to encourage students to save a certain percentage of their pocket money. This not only helps them accumulate savings but also instills a habit of saving.

Another important strategy is to involve students in budgeting. They should be encouraged to plan their expenditures, which will help them understand their spending patterns and control impulsive buying.

Lastly, it’s important to have open conversations about money. Discussing financial matters, such as the importance of saving, the consequences of debt, and the significance of investing, can help students develop a healthy relationship with money.

In conclusion, pocket money is a powerful tool that can shape a student’s financial behavior and understanding. Despite the challenges it presents, with the right strategies and guidance, it can be used effectively to instill financial responsibility and independence in students. The lessons learned from managing pocket money are invaluable, and they lay the groundwork for sound financial habits in adulthood.

Pocket Money For Children Review

Pocket money is money given to children for them to save and spend on what they want. It is quite common for most children to start receiving pocket money when they reach a certain age.

A dilemma for many parents who decide to give their children pocket money is deciding the amount to give, as giving too little or too much can actually make a well-intended gesture negative. Which leaves us with the question, how much pocket money should children be given?

Pocket Money

“Money can make the world go round” seems true on many occasions. More and more people are in debt at some point in their lives. It is therefore, pertinent to introduce the concept of money, its usage and saving, to children at a young age, five being a good age to begin. Pocket Money is the first step towards this aim.

Pocket money is a small weekly sum of money given to children by their parents. This does not have to be earned. It is money for small personal expenses. The sum may vary depending on the income of the family. Each parent can afford an amount which should be discussed with the children and fixed. It should also be decided what the child intends to do with it- buy a box of sweets or WWF-stickers. Then parents should not have to spend money on those items for the child. The pocket money may be withheld as punishment. This may be compensated for good behavior. There are some chores that need to be done at home as a duty and others for which you might be paid. This can be chalked out with parents in the beginning. Again, an increase in pocket money may be given from each Birthday. Having a limit on pocket money is necessary. Only then will the concepts of budget, saving and thinking before expenditure be learnt.

My five-year-old asked me why we are so careful with money when there are so many ATM’s to choose from?! Increasing use of credit cards, ATMs and internet banking makes money and their expenditure invisible to the child. Hence, the pocket money concept is very essential and useful to the growing child.

Short extract of podcast episode.

Money, saving money makes the world go round. And I think it is a really true saying because without it, what would we have?

We’ll have no trade between nations. We’ll have no investment by companies. We’ll have no money to spend. In the supermarkets, no way to feed and clothe ourselves. And generally, people will just struggle.

Of course, we could go back to the old days when we used to barter.

That’s barter . Meaning exchange something for something else.

So if I did something for you and fix the door or put in a window, then you would do something for me like fix my bathroom or cook me a meal or give me some of your vegetables. So this would be a barter where we would exchange one service for another service or some products for a particular service.

But that, I’m sure, still goes on. It does in different parts of the world where the money is not so easy to get.

But in the Western world and the first, second world economies, then money is King as they say. And without it we can do very little sometimes and we have money.

We’re not quite sure what to do with it, but certainly if we don’t have it, then we definitely have a problem. The different words we can use to to describe money, we can call it cash . I like to have cash in my pocket. We have cash in the bank. The ATM is, or where we withdraw money from these machines in the wall. We call them cash machines . So cash is a very common word for it. People say, do you have any money? Can you lend something? Do you have any cash? Could you give me something?

Long and Short Speech on Money

For this money is speech, let's understand what money is. It is an essential commodity that is exchanged when one consumes products or services for themselves. Possessing money by people can be very useful to provide them with all the resources necessary to fulfill their dreams. It can help in so many ways, but it is also important to understand it is not everything. Having enough is good enough for leading a comfortable life. In this article, we will look into various ways of presenting money as speech, or money is not speech. It can be a Long Speech on Money or a Short Speech on Money.

Long Speech on Money

Many people believe that money equals free speech, in this form of speech we will dive into these details and this can be helpful for students in grades 8-12 who are trying to understand the workings of the world.

Good Morning everyone, honorable Principal, respected teachers and my dear friends, I Abc (mention your name) am here to enlighten you with the learnings  I had when I was trying to understand the importance of money. It is certainly an asset to have access to this commodity, especially at a time when the prices are only rising. Money also definitely gives you the power to fulfill your dreams, be it attaining a quality education, traveling, starting a business, owning a luxurious car or helping your immediate family also fulfill their dreams.

It however has a way to bring out the worst in people as they become greedy, and try to earn more than necessary and not always by legal means. Those who have an abundance of it are the rich and they are in a position of power to dictate the lives of others, especially ones who lack and are at a disadvantage here.

It is assumed that money is free speech, which suggests when an individual or a community with money has the freedom to be upfront about their opinions and notions about anyone or anything without having to deal with any consequence. But this idea for the large part does not hold because the supreme court money is speech and is not just limited to money. Rather it emphasizes that everyone has the freedom to speak without interference and not be limited by fear.

It is very evident in our daily lives that not everybody has access to everything one needs or desires. People with money have also worked hard to reach a stage where they can not worry about anything and can afford luxuries without feeling guilty. People who follow the righteous path for earning money by putting in a lot of hard work and perseverance value this commodity. And are also aware of other people's hardships and help them in their ways. These people also uplift the credibility of the society they live in.

Whereas people who are only driven by greed engage in illegal means of earning money and even after that they are dissatisfied and wish to earn even more and not even consider the struggles of other people.

Money is truly a double-edged sword, while on one hand, it can give you a certain level of respect and status in society. But it can also rob you of the time where you can enjoy life with the money you earned, spending time by yourself or your loved ones. One is always on the go when driven by such a powerful commodity. So it is important to understand where to draw the line, not overwork and drain yourself in the process and use it for good purposes.

Short Speech on Money

For students in grades 4-7, this format of a short and brief speech is helpful, as this money speech is easy to convey using simple words .

Good morning everyone, I am here to speak on the topic of money. Money is one of the most important reasons which divides society into different classes. It is just a commodity to be exchanged for purchases, but it seeps into so much more deep-rooted ideas and ways of living.

When one possesses lots of it, they are the rich and upper class who can live an extravagant life and can fulfill their desires and dreams due to the easy access and availability of resources. And they lead a very privileged life.

Whereas the middle-class man and a middle-class family must be very diligent in saving up for the future, like for the education of their children, and invest their hard-earned money very cautiously. It is a hard life to tread when you lie in the middle of problems, and you cannot afford to even get out of it.

The lower-class who have only a bare minimum to get by the day and have no access to quality education or good food, live in very unhygienic places like slums toil extremely hard to earn a basic minimum wage.

This class difference in different communities creates a division in many things that is necessary for a good life. The rich have access to fine food, and the poor are only able to afford 1-2 meals a day. Everything divides these communities, in aspects of the school, food, home, vehicle, health because many poor children are facing the issue of malnutrition and the most crucial are better healthcare facilities. To support their families, children start working and the illegal practice of child labour increases.

There are a few organizations that try to help these underprivileged societies. This is a never-ending fight, but the gap only seems to be increasing.

Speech on Money in 150 words

Good morning, a warm welcome to everyone present here. Today, I am going to speak about the topic “Money”

Money is defined in a variety of ways. In terms of economics, it is defined as an economic unit that serves as a means of exchange in an economy. Money can be regarded as an item that is commonly accepted as payment for goods and services consumed. The three primary functions of money are the center of its interest. They are 1. The means of exchange: this is the medium through which goods and services are exchanged for money. 2. Unit of account: in economics, this refers to the monetary value of a product or service. 3. The term "store of value" refers to an asset that can be kept for future use and sold at a better price to profit financially.

Speech on Money

Good morning everyone.

I am here to give a speech on Money. None of us can exist in such a competitive society and world without money. We require money to meet our basic needs, such as purchasing food and other basics of life that are impossible to achieve without it. People who are wealthy and own property are regarded as respectable and respected members of society. A poor person, on the other hand, is seen with hatred and no good feelings. Money improves a person's social position and helps him create a positive image. We all want to get rich by making more money through business, a good job, a good business, and so on so that we can meet all the modern world's expanding needs. However, only a small percentage of people can fulfill their dream of becoming a billionaire. As a result, money is a significant factor in one's life.

Money cannot purchase or stop time, nor can it buy true love and caring. However, it is still required by all to keep life on the proper track. Even though money cannot buy us time or love, it can buy us happiness, confidence, fulfillment, and physical and mental well-being. As a result, we can go about our daily lives with ease and overcome even the most challenging problems.

10 Line Speech on Money

This is helpful for explaining to the students in grades 1-3 to understand in short and simple sentences.

Money is very important for getting the resources useful for living a good life.

It is the commodity used as a means or mode of exchange when in consumption of a product or service.

Everyone needs it, but one has to strive hard to earn, save and grow forward with it.

It can be cash, which is usually a note or coin that is now used as an exchange commodity.

Earlier, the barter system was used and slowly gold and silver coins were introduced leading up to today.

One must have enough to survive with the access and availability of basic resources like food, clean water and shelter.

To have a better life with good healthcare, schooling, and luxuries, one must possess a lot of it.

One who has more holds a lot of power and commands respect from others in society.

Money need not necessarily be directly proportional to happiness, but it sure does give you the means to fulfill your dreams and desires.

It has to be smartly invested for it to be of help in this ever-increasing expense of the world.

Meaning:  Cash is any kind of money in the form of bills (paper money) or coins. It’s the easiest way to pay someone if you’re physically going out to buy something.

Your total is $14.99. Will you be paying with cash or credit card?

Below, you’ll find the two main types of cash in English: coins and bills.

Meaning: As seen above, one form of cash you may use is coins. Coins are often round in shape, although this can vary depending on the currency.

The child saved the coins he earned as pocket money to use at the fun fair.

Meaning: Instead of only using coins, to avoid having to carry tons of coins around when dealing with a higher value of money, you can use bills.

Have you got a $5 bill ? I haven’t got enough quarters to put in the vending machine.

Note that some English-speaking countries like Australia, New Zealand and the UK use the term “banknote,” or more commonly “note,” instead of bill.

Meaning: Nowadays, it’s far more common for people to carry these around and make payments “by card.” Not only are there certain places that no longer accept cash, but for many, it’s a simpler and safer way to carry money and make purchases.

This shop only accepts payments by card .

The most common types of cards are a “debit card,” a card that already has the amount of cash required to make the purchase available, and a “credit card,” a card that allows you to make purchases by borrowing money, which you will then pay back over a period of time.

Meaning: When you buy something in a store, you are given a sales slip or receipt. This can either be printed out on paper or sent to you via email. It’s used as a proof of purchase and is important to keep in case you need to return the item.

I was given a sales slip when I bought the TV, but I can’t find it anywhere.

I gave them my email address so they could email me the receipt .

Meaning: In this context, the word change can have various meanings.

Firstly, it can mean the money you are given back after paying for something using cash:

Here is your change .

This term can also refer to coins:

Do you have any change ? I need a quarter.

Meaning:  The amount of money a person earns per month or per year. A person can earn an income through work, collecting rent or by investing in other companies (also called an investor).

Earning a good income in this economy is a really hard task.

Meaning:  To be thrifty is to use money very carefully, without wasting. The word can mean positive and negative things based on the context and the intent of the speaker.

My dad always taught me to be thrifty  with money. This has helped me through some really tough times.

Meaning:  This word is similar to the word “negotiate,” but it’s generally used in an informal context. To haggle with someone is to discuss the price of an object persistently (without ceasing).

Miss Thurstone always haggles with the baker to save five cents on every purchase.

Meaning:  When a shop or a business lowers prices of something for a limited period, it’s called a discount. If you’re in the US, this is especially important on “Black Friday,” the day after Thanksgiving when the largest discounts of the year are given in many stores. (A day where lots of Americans shop for Christmas gifts.)

I always buy mobile phones when there is a discount . Otherwise it’s just too expensive to own a good smartphone nowadays.

To learn more vocabulary related to shopping, read  this post .

Meaning:  The amount of money available to spend on something is called a budget. It can also mean a plan where you decide how and where you will spend the money you have over a specific time period, like a monthly or weekly budget.

I always go over my budget when I shop for clothes. That’s why I always take my parents with me, so they can stop me from spending too much.

Meaning:  A deal can mean an agreement or arrangement between two or more businesses. As a verb it can also refer to doing business in something or with someone.

Apple had a deal with Samsung where they agreed to manufacture smartphones together.

Meaning:  When you buy something or enjoy a service with the promise of paying in the future, it’s called “credit.” This is where “credit cards” get their name, and it’s a common practice almost anywhere in the world.

I prefer not to buy anything on credit since I hate the idea. But my son uses my credit card all the time.

Meaning:  You are said to be in debt when you owe money to someone. Both individuals and companies can be in debt, and the word is used for more formal occasions such as taking a loan from a bank or a company.

If our company does not stop going over budget every year, then our debt will force us to close down the business.

Meaning:  If you have a formal discussion with others to reach an agreement between all the people involved, then it’s called a negotiation. Generally people negotiate when they want something from each other but some demands are not acceptable to the other parties.

When these discussions happen between businesses, then they are known as “business negotiations.” (For a complete list of common verbs used in business writing, read this post .)

I always take John with me to every big business negotiation . He can make anyone trust him with his conversation skills.

Meaning:  Profit is when a person or business makes more money selling something than buying or producing that thing. Loss is when one has to give more money in making or buying a product or service than the money they receive after selling it.

It takes a while for a new business to see a profit . Typically, it will take a loss  during the first year or so.

Meaning:  A market is a place where you buy and sell things, whether it be a shopping market or the stock market . It can also be used as a verb. “To market” something is to promote a product or a brand.

I prefer our neighborhood market over the mall. There are so many unique things you can find there!

Meaning:  The processes, people, tools, factories and things used to create a product or service. For instance, the car industry includes everything involved in making cars.

I think the paper industry will shut down after some years. All the people I know use computers for reading documents.

Meaning:  In general, “recession” means the act of receding or withdrawing from something or somewhere. In terms of money, a recession is a period of decreased economic activity where people lose jobs and things get more expensive. The last major recession happened in 2008  and affected most of the world.

I could not find a job for a whole year after the recession of 2008. I even had to sell my car to pay my rent.

Meaning:  In today’s world we generally use this word for the official currencies of different countries. Dollar, pound, rupee, yen, ruble, etc. are all examples of currency.

The US dollar is an international currency because it can be used in almost every country of the world.

For more financial vocabulary, take a look at this post !

Meaning:  This phrase is used when you want to mock someone who spends without thinking. It means that money is hard to earn and it’s not free, unlike the leaves of any tree.

He asked me if I could buy him a laptop and I just told him that I couldn’t afford it. Money doesn’t grow on trees!

Meaning:  Squirrels have this amusing habit of storing away large amounts of food in secret places for the winter. When someone does the same thing with money, we use this idiom. Generally, someone does this so they have a substantial amount of money they can use in times of crisis.

Luckily, I had squirreled away around ten thousand dollars that helped me a lot during the recession.

Meaning:  To break the bank is to use all your money to buy something. It’s also used when you need to say that something is far too costly and you cannot afford it.

There’s no way I can go on vacation to Miami. I’ll need to break the bank just to buy the plane tickets.

Meaning:  Bread and butter is often considered to be the essential diet of many English-speaking people. In terms of money, it’s used for the work you do to earn your basic income, with which you can feed yourself and your family.

Although I like writing novels, being a banker is my bread and butter .

Meaning:  To be “broke” or “flat broke” is to have absolutely no money. It’s informally used to mean that you are having difficulty buying even basic things like good food or bus tickets.

With this salary, I’m always flat broke by the end of the month. I think I need to find another job.

Meaning:  When you give a rough estimate of some calculations involving money, you use this idiom.

Although I’ll have to check how much this house will cost you exactly, I can give a ballpark figure of around ten thousand per month.

Meaning: When something is very expensive, it costs an arm and a leg.

After they canceled our flights, we had to hire a car and drive across the country to make it home in time for Christmas. It cost us an arm and a leg !

Meaning: This idiom is used to say that money is being wasted.

He bought a brand new car but doesn’t even use it. I can’t help but think that he’s thrown money down the drain .

Meaning: When you have a lot of money, often more than necessary, then you are said to have money to burn (spend or waste).

Five years ago he won the lottery and invested everything. He now has a lot of money to burn .

Meaning: This idiom refers to being more careful with your money and spending less.

Lately, he’s been trying to tighten his belt and only buy what he really needs.

Learning new vocabulary and witty English idioms is important to talk about money.

It’s also essential to know what you should not say in a simple English conversation . Money can be a very sensitive subject for people. For instance, asking someone what their salary is, especially when you’re meeting them for the first time, is thought to be extremely rude in English-speaking societies.

Saying that someone else is having financial difficulties in front of other people can be seen as an attempt to make the other person look bad. But if you share your own financial difficulties with other people, they’ll often think that you trust them and this can make your relationship stronger.

Lesson overview, lesson summary .

CASH. BIG ONES. BUCKS. MOOLAH. QUID. COIN. There are LOTS of ways to talk about money in English. It’s one of those topics with quite a diverse range of vocabulary – particularly slang words that are commonly used in one country, and never heard in another! In this lesson, we’ll go through some of the most common, universal money words – nouns, verbs and adjectives – to help you talk about money AND sound more confident and natural when you speak English!

CLICK HERE to read the full lesson transcript.

Video Transcript Section 1 Well hey there! I’m Emma from mmmEnglish and in this lesson, we’re talking about cash! Moollah. Big ones. Bucks. Quid. Dosh. Dough. Coin. Money.

Now, most countries have their own currency – the name for their money. So..

In fact, can you do me a favour and write the name of your country’s currency in the comments below this video? I’m curious to see just how many currencies we can collect down there.

But currency is not what this lesson is about. This lesson is about the nouns, the verbs, the adjectives that we use to talk about money in English and there are plenty!

The thing about money is, it’s a pretty dang important part of life really, isn’t it? So it’s no wonder at all why we have so many different words to talk about money including plenty of slang words. Plenty more than I’ve listed here. And these words are often unique to a place or to a community. They may not be understood by all native English speakers or even used by all native English speakers.

So if you’re visiting an English-speaking country, do a little research before you arrive because you’ll hear ‘quid’ and ‘skint’ in England but they’re not commonly used here in Australia. We would probably say ‘bucks’ and ‘broke’ instead, which is a little more like Americans. So when you’re in an English-speaking country, make sure you’re listening out for these words. Listen for the way that local people talk about money.

Now the noun ‘money’ is a universal word, you can use it anywhere in an English-speaking country. In Australia, you’ll hear people use any of these words to refer to money and more of them. But the most common ones are bucks, cash, coin and of course, money.

One of the trickiest things about money words in English is how they are used because dollars and bucks are countable nouns. So if you have more than one, it must be plural. Make sure you check your pronunciation on that, it’s very common for English learners to drop the plural ‘S’ and say “five dollar” which is incorrect, “five dollars” .

Now, ‘bucks’ is just an informal casual word for dollars. It’s a synonym.

Can I borrow ten bucks?

It has exactly the same meaning as “Can I borrow ten dollars?” It’s just more informal.

And often ‘bucks’ is used as a bit of a sales or marketing tool because somehow ‘bucks’ makes things sound cheaper or less expensive.

It’s only twenty bucks ! Let’s get it.. What? Twenty dollars ? I’m not paying that. No.. it’s only twenty bucks . It’s nothing!

So this is exactly the same amount but using ‘bucks’ makes it sound cheaper somehow. So it’s a good sales tool.

‘Cents’ and ‘coins’ are also countable nouns relating to money.

Do you have any coins ? I need them to pay for parking. Sorry, I’ve only got fifty cents .

Now, ‘quid’ is countable but it doesn’t have a plural form.

It’ll cost you a quid . Can you lend me twenty quid ?

There is no plural sound. Now when you think about money like this, it’s easy to see how it’s countable, right? We know exactly how many dollars and cents we have in the bank. So of course money is countable, right? But actually, some English nouns that refer to money are uncountable and this has a huge impact when you’re using these words in English sentences. So to find out more about that, check out this lesson I made about uncountable nouns but right now, we’ll continue talking about uncountable nouns relating to money, okay?

‘Money’ is an uncountable noun and ‘cash’ is a synonym. It’s also an uncountable noun which means that they have only one form. There is no plural form. We would never say ‘monies’ or ‘cashes’.

Did you bring any money for the tickets? I haven’t got enough money to pay for lunch. Sorry.

Now, this is interesting! Once an amount gets over a thousand, you’ll notice people saying ‘grand’ or ‘K’ and this just means thousand. So this is quite common across all English-speaking countries.

He earned 80 K in three months. We borrowed fifty grand from my parents to put a deposit on a house. So that’s fifty thousand dollars ($50,000).

Now some nouns in English can be countable and uncountable. ‘Coin’ is like this. Coins are countable, you can see I’ve got several of them right here. Now this is the common use of ‘coin’, right? There are several coins here but ‘coin’ can also be used informally as a synonym for money.

She must be on some good coin. They’ve just bought a new house!

So this means she must be making lots of money. “She’s on good coin” not “She’s on good coins”

Okay so let’s talk about some verbs to use when you’re talking about money in English. So when you go to work, you earn money, don’t you? Have you ever wondered how much money someone else earns? Some people are much better at saving money than others, right? Some people spend their money straightaway as soon as they get it and then they have to borrow money from their friends and family. Do you know anyone like that?

When you borrow money from a bank, you take out a loan. So the bank loans you money, when you don’t have enough. So notice here that ‘loan’ can be a verb and also a noun. But the problem is that then you owe the bank money. I hate the feeling of owing someone money. I always try to repay that money as quickly as possible. When you loan money from the bank, you have to repay the money, right? With interest. So if you don’t blow all your money as soon as you get it.

That’s just an informal way of saying “Spend all your money.” So if you don’t blow all your money as soon as you get it, you may be able to invest the money. And when someone, perhaps a relative, passes away or they die, they might leave you some of their money. And when this happens, you inherit money.

So the reality is that most things cost money, don’t they? Not everything, but most things cost money. Goodness, there are lots and lots of different verbs to use with ‘money’, aren’t there? And also they can be used with the synonyms of ‘money’, as well. Lots of collocations to try and remember.

Let’s talk about adjectives that you can use when you’re talking about money. So it’s important to know that there are different adjectives to use with things. So the things that you can buy with money and people.

So let’s start with adjectives that describe things that people can buy. So of course, you’re probably used to the adjective, ‘expensive’, when something costs a lot of money, right? And ‘cheap’, when something doesn’t cost a lot of money. But I want to introduce you to a few other words, other adjectives. I want to push your vocabulary a bit further today.

So I want you to think about a situation where you bought something in the past and you were happy with the price. It wasn’t a cheap item but you were happy to pay the price. In your opinion, the value that you get is equal to the cost. The benefit of the item is equal to the amount that you will pay for it. So then, you can say “it’s worth it.”

We paid more for the house than we wanted to, but it’s worth it . It’s in a beautiful location.

You might also say that the price was fair or reasonable but if something costs more than you think it’s worth, you could say that “it’s pricey.”

I almost bought a new sofa today but I decided it was too pricey . I’ll keep looking for one that’s a little cheaper.

Now the adjective ‘cheap’ is not always a positive one. It can suggest that something is poorly-made, that the quality is bad. So if you want to say that something is cheap but express it in a more positive way, you could use ‘affordable’ or ‘economical’.

We need more affordable housing options in the city. Catching a bus to Thailand is more economical than flying.

That’s a positive way to express ‘cheaper’.

So how can we describe people and their money? You probably know someone who is generous with the money that they have. They share it with everyone around them. They’re generous. Now if someone has a lot of money, you could say “They’re rolling in it.” As in they’re rolling in money. They’ve got lots of it!

Another common one, “They’re loaded” or even “They’ve got heaps of coin.”

Now if someone doesn’t have much money, you might hear “They’re broke” or “They’re skint” . So ‘broke’ is common in Australia and in America, ‘skimp’ is commonly used in the UK but both being that someone doesn’t have much money or any money.

I’m completely broke .

Now if you know someone who doesn’t like to spend their money, you could say “they’re tight” or “a cheapskate” . Now these are both insults, they’re not kind words. So don’t use them to talk about your friends unless you’re joking around.

My boss is so tight , he cancelled our Christmas party because there were too many people to invite.

So if you don’t mean to insult someone and you’re suggesting that it’s a good thing that they don’t spend their money, then instead use a different adjective like ‘thrifty’ or ‘money-conscious’.

My auntie is thrifty with her money, she doesn’t earn much but she lives comfortably.

Now if someone doesn’t like to spend money, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, is it? Sometimes that’s a really positive quality.

So I’ve introduced a lot of new words throughout this lesson. Lots of words to do with money. What I suggest you do, is take a few moments to write a paragraph right now. Write about the people in your life who suit these adjectives or things you’ve done with the verbs that we talked about earlier. Do you know someone who’s loaded or someone who’s thrifty ? Tell me about it in the comments.

Practise using these words in sentences. I really hope that you enjoyed this lesson. Money is something that we all talk about a lot, don’t we? So I hope that you learned some new ways to express yourself today.

Speech on money.

Hello everyone, I am here to present a speech on Money. Money is anything that people use to buy goods and services. Money is also that people receive for selling their own things or services. Most countries have their own kind of money such as the United States has a dollar, Britain has pound and Indian has rupees. Money is also called by many other names such as currency or cash.

Types of Money

There are different types of money as commodity money, convertible money, inconvertible money, bank deposit, and electronic money. Commodity money can be used for other purposes besides serving as a medium of exchange. Cattle, silk, gold, and silver are some examples of commodity money.

Convertible paper is money that can be converted into gold and silver. Inconvertible money is the money that we cannot convert into gold and silver. Notes and coins are inconvertible money. Such type of money is a country’s legal tender.

Money is an essential commodity that helps run our lives. Exchanging goods for goods is an older practice and without any money, we can buy anything we wish. Money has become important because people are trying to save wealth for their future needs. Rich people are rich as they know or realize the true value of money. It is a general saying that money stays in the hands of people who know its value.

Money also affects Relationships

There are many people who grow hatred between each other only because of money. There are also people who treat rich people with respect and poor people with disrespect. Women also prefer men who are rich and powerful for marriage. Thus money also has the power to make and break relationships.

It’s important to earn money but it’s also important to save money. Someone has rightly said that if you save money today, the money will save you in the future. If you work hard and spend all the money then it’s of no sense. Saved money can also help you in older age and in times of medical emergencies.

There are many schemes of government that encourages and help people who want to save a portion of their income as savings. Investment is also an option of saving.  One can adopt any kind of investment after proper consultation.

There are several ways to earn money but one should always concentrate on earning money through legal means. As said in our purans, that one should work to earn Gaja Laxmi, which will come slowly. It will come through legal means and stay for long. One should never work to earn money which comes from illegal means. This type of money will come quickly and will go more quickly.

At last, money makes the world revolve and function. Money satisfies our needs and gives us pleasure and satisfaction. Money can bring us everything but money is not everything. One should value relationships more than money. People and our relationship with each other are more important than money.

Money should be utilized for the betterment of society. Rich people should help and respect poor people. We should also inculcate in our children, habit of saving from an early age. Money, if used wisely and properly, will contribute to the building of a strong, developed and powerful nation.

Speech On Money In English

Speech On Money In English - 2200 in words

Money is one of the most important aspects in the life of every person. We need money for the biggest things and the smallest things for ourselves. Money is the cause of economic balance or imbalance in any country. You may be asked to give speeches on money on various occasions. We are sharing with you some sample speeches on money that can help you deliver an impressive speech to the audience.

Speech on Money in English

good morning.

I am very happy to share this happiness with you that we have made double profit in business this year and it has been possible only because of hard efforts of all of you. Thus the Management Committee has decided to share a certain part of the profit as bonus with all the employees.

We understand that money is the most important thing without which we cannot imagine our life. We all know about the importance of money and the things that we can buy with money. This is the reason why everyone wants to accumulate wealth in their life. I need not say that money is an important medium of transaction to buy goods or avail any service. The importance of money has gone beyond the necessity of life. Money is essential to enjoy luxuries and lead a comfortable life.

Money was primarily invented by human beings as a common denominator for trade, exchange of goods and services and aimed at earning income in the form of money. In those days money was the main necessity after moral principles and policies in the society but in today's time money has become the most important need of the people. No person can survive without money.

We believe that it is important to earn maximum money not only for a comfortable life but also to ensure the safety of our family members. Today some things are not certain like money is necessary for emergencies like accidents, natural calamities etc. I do not believe in the notion that one should not work hard to earn more money or that one should be happy with lesser nature's gifts. I believe that enthusiasm to earn more money makes a person competitive and agile. Also less money can meet your present needs but cannot protect you from future accidents. Thus an unseen future definitely needs more money.

In Hindu mythology, people worship the revered Lakshmi and the deity Kubera, the symbol of wealth and wealth. No culture preaches that you ignore your responsibilities towards your family members and lead a life of asceticism. It is important that you fulfill your duties towards your family members to the best of your ability and this will definitely require money to buy things that can make your loved ones happy.

Money is now available in various forms like paper, metal, plastic card, e-wallet, traveller's check coupon etc. Of course, it is the value of money and not its different forms. Second, apart from earning money, you should also consider saving money for future as an important task. For this you land-property, You can consider investing in gold etc as the value of these things is increasing every year. You should always look for different ways to earn and save money but you should not adopt illegal ways to earn money quickly. This kind of money can give you happiness for a short time but later you may have to face heavy penalty for it. Apart from this, you should take care that you do not compare yourself with others. Some may be richer than you and some may be poorer than you. Some things are out of your control, so set your goals for it. Thus you should only focus on hard work for discharging your roles and responsibilities towards your family members, society and yourself.

Dear students.

Hope you are enjoying life to the fullest. I run a meditation center in the city and am often called upon to deliver motivational speeches on various subjects in schools and colleges. Today I have chosen to give a speech about the topic of money which is the main center of attraction for all. Money is something that everyone wants to keep with them and people who already have money want to increase it manifold. Actually we all should work hard to earn more and more money.

Money was ideally invented by man as a medium of equitable transaction that could be used to exchange goods and services. It was also considered as the things in which people can save their income and wealth. Money was not as important in those days as it is today.

As time has passed, the importance of money has increased enormously as compared to other things and people have started looking for means to earn more and more money. Though the truth is that we need money to buy basic necessities like food, clothes, shelter etc but many of us want to earn more money to do our favorite things and live a comfortable life. The purpose of saving money is also essential to meet any emergency or natural calamity. We have to deposit money in the bank as savings so that we can use it in future.

Money is indeed one of the most important elements for everyone but it is not right to give more importance to money than human beings. I agree that if we have money then the people of the society will give us respect. Everyone should be progressive towards earning money but one should avoid adopting unfair or illegal way to earn more money because in future these steps can prove to be very dangerous for you and it can ruin your life. Due to which the balance of your mental peace can deteriorate. That's why we should be happy on the money earned through honest means.

While earning money we should create enough generosity to help the poor section of our society, especially children and women and contribute towards their development and progress. Unfortunately, people of our society these days are paying attention to themselves and do not pay attention to the people around them. There is a large population who live below poverty line and there is no means of earning their livelihood then as a privileged section of our society it becomes our duty to help in the upliftment of that weaker section and bring them forward. Help me. I would appeal to all the students to study hard and establish themselves well so that you can achieve the goals in your life and give a peaceful life to yourself and your loved ones.

Another important aspect that you should consider is that currency is depreciating after every year and things are getting expensive day by day so it is important that we earn more money and save more and more. Many people want to save money through investments in property, gold, mutual funds, land, residential houses, bank accounts etc. It is a good decision to meet future calamities and adversity.

In the end I would say that money is definitely good provided you know how much importance to give to it. In order to enjoy your money you should consider helping those in need. In some religions people donate a certain amount of their earnings for noble deeds and charity. It is totally up to you but you should always follow the right path to lead a fulfilling life.

good Morning ladies and gentlemen.

Today we all have gathered here on the occasion of the opening ceremony of our new bank branch and we are all very excited about it. As the manager of this bank, I feel proud to be a part of such a great and successful company. The opening of a new branch is possible only with the cooperation of the employees and the entire staff associated with the company. Using this opportunity I would like to say a few words about the role of money in today's world as money is the main reason behind the origin of banks.

The role of a bank is important in the life of a citizen as it is directly related to money. Money is a very important or almost essential part in a person's life and hence bank loans, money transactions automatically become important. Money is the source through which we can buy those things which are necessary for a comfortable life. In today's world money is the source of confidence and without money it seems impossible to achieve all this. Hard work enhances the capability and courage of a person. Money reflects the social status and prestige of a person in today's world. Unfortunately the world is lagging behind its moral and social values and this is a very disturbing issue. Everyone wants to earn money in any case. Many people are looking to earn money through wrong avenues like gambling, selling illegal things in other countries. These people have become slaves of money. Yes, servant!

People are moving towards becoming the slave of money or are lusting for money because of their increasing love. The thirst for money leads to corruption, Reduction in tough fights as well as the degradation of moral values. People are not using money to fulfill their needs but only to increase its number and quantity. They do not care about their health to increase their wealth. Due to his carelessness towards the family and not taking care of his own health, his family has to bear the brunt of it. You cannot lead a healthy and happy life just by increasing the balance in the account. Money can buy many things but it can't buy your time. Money once spent can be earned again but time once spent cannot be earned again. People only regret after losing health and family. They have forgotten the taste of a real life and are living in a limited world where money is everything.

So it is better to be the master of money than to be a slave because a master knows where to spend money and how to fulfill his desires. Using money in the right way is very important.

With this, I want to conclude my speech and hope that this bank will achieve great success with the confidence of the citizens.

Respected Principal, Respected teachers and my dear friends!

Today we all have gathered here in this meeting hall for the speech competition organized by our school whose theme is money and its drawbacks. As a head girl of this school, I am very happy to start this competition by saying few words on money. Money is one of the most wonderful creations of man. In today's time money is the most important and a powerful factor that we can get. People work day and night just to earn money. They earn money for fulfilling their desires and for their satisfaction. With money a person can earn almost everything.

If we look at the system of ancient times, when money did not exist, there was barter system. In barter system people had to exchange their goods with each other in case of double coincidence of needs. The exchange of goods was possible only when a person gave his thing for his thing. It was not always possible to have a double coincidence of needs and thus the system no longer existed. With the passage of time it was not possible to be self-sufficient for the exchange of goods as well as for the exchange of goods. Thus it became necessary to make money.

The pursuit of money has made many things easier. Now we don't need any kind of coincidence to fulfill our needs. You need money in your pocket to fulfill your demands, needs or desires. Money is needed everywhere but still there are many things which are not fulfilled by money or which cannot be bought like love. Our parents do not love us for money because it is unconditional love. Money may be the most important thing in the world but still there are some places where the need for money is negligible or meaningless.

We all know about the lifestyle of all the people today. Most of you are busy in earning money. Most are becoming careless towards their health and family. Money has many positive effects on the whole world but also many negative effects. Corruption is one of the major problems faced by many countries today. This is because of the growing addiction to earn more and more money. Yes, it is such an addiction that many people are engaged. They can do anything to earn money. Getting started gambling because of the addiction to making money is a very serious issue.

To overcome these problems we need to understand that money is just a source of fulfilling our needs and happiness but not more important than ourselves or our family members.

With this, I would like to end my speech and wish you all the best for the competition. God bless the hardest working person wins this competition.

Thank you. Good day to you all.

Money is the most basic requirement of the life without which one cannot fulfill his basic needs and requirements of the daily routine. We can never compare the importance of the money with the importance of love or care. When one need money, love cannot fulfill this requirement and if one need love, money cannot fulfill this requirement.

Both are highly required for the healthy life but they have their significance and importance separately. Both are required by us on urgent basis so we cannot rank both on the same scale. Money is the basic requirement of the life without which one cannot imagine a healthy and peaceful life. We need money even buying a little needle. In the modern time, where growth of civilization is going very fast and following western culture, we need more money because of the increasing prices of everything. Earlier there was a system called barter system in which one was allowed to exchange things to get goods however, in the modern one need only money to buy everything.

The importance of money is increasing day by day as the living has become so costly. The significance of money has increased to a great extent in the field of production, consumption, exchange, distribution, public finance and etc. It plays a very crucial role in determining the input, income, employment, output, general price level of anything, etc.

Money Essay 3 (200 words)

In such a costly and competitive society and world, no one of us can live without money. We need money to fulfil our basic needs of the life such as buying food, and other many basic necessities of life which are almost impossible to buy without money. People in the society who are rich and have property are looked as honourable and respectful person of the society however a poor person is seen as hatred without any good impression.

Money increases the position of the person in the society and gives good impression to him. All of us want to be rich by earning more money through good job or business in order to fulfil all the increasing demands of the modern age. However, only few people get this chance of completing their dreams of being a millionaire.

So, money is the thing of great importance all through the life. Money is required by everyone whether he/she is rich or poor ad living in urban areas or rural areas. People in the urban areas are earning more money than the people living in backward or rural areas as the people of the urban areas have more access to the technologies and get more opportunity because of the easy sources.

Money Essay 4 (250 words)

Money is very much required thing in the life however; it cannot buy things like time, love and true care. It can only fulfil the outer needs of the person and not the inner needs like true love. Now-a-days, everything has become so costly but necessary to buy for living a simple life. And what if we have no money, either we would die or suffer more if saved.

Money has capability to buy anything virtually and helps us a lot throughout the life. By taking the importance of the money in our life we should never destroy or waste the money without any purpose. We should not compare the money and love because both are required separately to run a successful life.

In this competitive world, everyone wants to get good study with higher education from the popular college and university to get good job in order to earn more money. A person needs more money to fulfil the requirement of the all members of the family especially one who is only working person of the family.

He or she needs to fulfil the eating, clothing and living requirements of the family members and for that money is required. Rich people of the society are given particular recognition and popularity however poor people live their life by arranging just food for two times a day. All the changes and differences are just because of the money.

Money Essay 5 (300 words)

Money is really a very important thing for the human beings to lead their life in the satisfactory way. Unlike animals and plants, we need more money everywhere. In order to live in the society, we need to maintain our status and position in the society for which we need money. In order to eat food or drink water, wear cloth, get admission to the school, take medicine or go to the hospital and other many activities we need lots of money. Now the topic arise is, where we got such required money. We need to get higher level study and do hard works to get good job or open our own business which requires more skill and confidence.

Earlier the condition of poor people was very poor because of the pressure of the rich people. They were not helping the poor people and use them only as a servant on the very low salary. However the condition of the poor people has become good as the rule and regulations of the government as been change in order to equalize the condition of both. Now everyone has equal rights to study higher and get good job. Many people understand that money is the origin of the evil in the mind however I do not think so because thinking is the process of human mind and not the creation of money.

I understand and believe that money is the most important key of happiness gifted by the God. It is the human mind to take anything in different ways. Some people take it only to fulfil their physical needs and they never take it heartily however some people understand everything to the money and they can do anything for getting the money such murder, corruption, underworld work, smuggling, promoting bribe, etc.

Money Essay 6 (400 words)

There is no any doubt that money is so essential for our healthy living. Money is almost everything for us to live a life and maintain the good stats in the society. It is the money which fulfils the need of bringing necessary comforts and amenities of the life. If one has money, he/she can get anything in his/her life. It is the money which helps us in developing good personality, improving confidence, makes us able to creditworthiness, improving capacity, increasing capabilities and enhancing our courage to a great level. Without money we feel helpless and alone in this world where no one is ready to help and assist. In the current materialistic world, money is very important and powerful thing without which one cannot live and survive.

Now-a-days, in order to earn more money in wrong ways, bad people are taking help of corruption, bribe, smuggling, murder rich people of the society, and other callous activities by degrading the moral and ethical values of the humanity. Lazy people follow wrong ways to earn money as they understand that these ways are simple and easy however it is not true. One can earn more money in less time and effort but not for long; surely he would be lost in the near future as he is following wrong and weak way. The people who are earning money by following all the rules of humanity earn less money but for long time and they become the high status personality of the society.

People doing corruption save their money as a black money in other countries to keep hidden from the common public and use that money for bad works or increasing their physical luxury. However, common people of the society respects a lot to the people earning money using wrong techniques as they have fear of them and little bit greediness that they can get some money in return whenever required by giving them respect. They are generally called as the bhai or dada or don. Money cannot buy or stay the time as well as cannot give true love and care however highly required by all of us to run the life on the right path. It cannot give time and love however gives happiness, confidence, satisfaction, feeling of well being mentally and physically, makes life easy by solving all the difficulties, and many more.

Could you please enlighten us if there are teachers who offer the service of practicing English speaking online with them , and what would be the cost for each hour of online practice, also are there any interactive online classes for more than one candidate at the same time (similar to online conferences) so that we benefit from brainstorming and different ideas and inquiries raised by others?

hi madam rebecca i would like to thank u alot 4 these priceless things u r doing, what puzzles me in english is that sometimes i dont understand the american accent and they often speak in the way which really excruciates me alot because i’m mad about english and i have a myriad of vocabulary in which i guess no learner has, because vocabulary has always been my favorite thing in english, the other thing is that english has got uncountable words and synonyms as well,my question is(do i have to know it all)because u know it takes lots of time to be all known and i have been reading in dictionaries 4 such along time, for example(fascinate, mesmerize, bewitch, smite, enthrall, captivate, enchant, charm, entrance, infatuate, thrill, spellbind, enamor),u definitely know that there is a slight difference between these various words but the meaning is roughly the same, can u please help if u dont mind, thanks a bundle

I think it’s pretty amazing that you’ve devoted so much time to studying English vocabulary. It shows that you’re very determined to do whatever you do very well and that’s a great characteristic.

To communicate successfully, you don’t have to know every single word. English has so many words that no-one knows them all. So if you enjoy learning the vocabulary, then please go ahead.

If you’re getting tired, then slow down and think about the context in which you need to use English. Then practice the vocabulary you need for that purpose. It will be more useful to you.

The other words you have mentioned are useful if you wish to read fiction or literature. You may or may not need to differentiate so specifically when actually speaking in English.

In any case, I wish you the very best and respect your desire to learn more. My best to you, Ahmed.

I enjoyed your class about money. It was very didactic. I like your accent, too. Thanks a lot.

You’re welcome, Maria. Thanks for your input. It helps all teachers to know what their students think. My best wishes to you.

You don’t respond to anyone sweety?

Sorry, Ashraf, sometimes it takes a while. I will try and respond more frequently!

Thank you so much Rebecca, truly you are a very nice person , I have noticed that you gave here so many responses (as much as you could) which reflects that you are a person who cares for others. I am very sad because a month ago I got 6.5 in my IELTS exam (1st time) and I asked the British Council for a re-mark and paid the requested fees . Best regards and our appreciation.

Please don’t feel bad about your IELTS score. The IELTS is a difficult exam in the sense that some of the questions are confusing, even if you have prepared for it. Actually, to get 6.5 the first time is pretty good.

If you need a higher score for university admission or some other purpose, you can try the exam again. Of course it costs money, but take note of what your individual scores were on the different sections and focus on improving those skills.

My best wishes to you, my friend.

Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for your kind reply. Thanks God, my speaking score became 7.0 instead of 6.5 and my writing became 6.0 instead of 5.5 , the overall score remained 6.5. I don’t have any doubt regarding the fairness of London IELTS Senior Examiners , but I am not pleased that I scored 6.0 only in the Writing exam. I performed badly in it although I could achieve a higher score. Being a Financial Manager I am writing business reports (in English) to the E.O. and the Board of Directors on regular basis and I read the UK. Independent , Daily Telegraph, and the Economist , I don’t have any problem to express myself in English talking about several issues. My suggestion to all IELTS candidates is to read a lot of newspapers and magazines in English and to watch the BBC Channel to be familiar with the correct pronouncation of the English Language. I like to watch the ” Hard Talk” program on BBC Inter. :) My best regards.

thank you so much

Welcome! Best of luck with your English.

thanks for teaching me

' src=

Thanks for writing to me! My best wishes to you, Habib.

Please what about OWE ? Can I use it instead of borrow ? . AS

I borrowed some money from the bank. OR, I owed the bank some money.

Well, the two words are related but quite different.

After you borrow money from the bank, then you will owe the bank some money.

To borrow means to take from someone or somewhere temporarily.

To owe means to have an obligation to return something, such as money or a favour.

Hope I was able to clarify the point for you. All the best with your English, Shaker.

Dear Rebecca thank u so much

' src=

You’re very welcome. Ortiga. My best to you.

Hi Rebecca, I read on your profile something about study in Toronto where you are teaching, I’ve been saving money to go to Canada I’ve been planning go to Vancouver but after watched your video lessons I changed my mind, what should I do to get more informations about school and rules to apply myself to an interchange course during my next vacation in July 2010.

Hugo, São Paulo, Brazil

I will contact you from our school email. Thanks so much for your feedback. My best wishes to you, Hugo.

Dear. teacher, Rebecca. your video was very useful . thanks for teaching me.

I have a question about your quiz sentence.

“I shouldn’t have gone to the casino ! I just _____________ $200 in half an hour!”

I wonder “in half an hour” ‘s “in” mean. I thought preposition “in” present “future mean” before saw the sentence. for example, “He will be back in a few days.” mean “he will not back until 2~3 days later.” right?

but , I just _____________ $200 in half an hour!”

What is “in” mean in this sentence?

Now I’m confused. Please, help me. tell me grammar point. I wanna know “in” preposition secret.

Sincerely Yoo, From Korea.

' src=

Thanks for your question. I know that prepositions can be very tricky, but you seem to have understood a lot already.

In the example you have given, “in” means “within” or ‘within that time”.

It’s like when you say,

I’ll be back in 5 minutes.

There too, it means within 5 minutes.

I hope this helps. Of course, the preposition “in” is used in many ways, and that may be what’s making you wonder. You’ll get it, I;m sure, you seem to be a serious and determined student.

My best wishes to you.

Do you mind if i ask something from you,can you tell me how to use “whom”,i got too confuse of it,thanks,I AM FROM MALAYSIAN.

I could explain, but an easier message would be to tell you that in North American English, you could just use “who” and that would be fine, too.

Okay? My best to you.

Dear Rebeca, would you intruduce a new book for teaching as second language. Hossein

Dear Rebeca,

Your class is excellent. My best wishes four you in this christmas,

Kind regards

' src=

I wish you a happy holiday season too.

Thanks for your wishes and all the best with your English.

Dear Teacher, Rebecca ! Thank You so much for lessons. It’s always interesting for me. Please, explain me what is meaning for word “Charge” in finance. Thank You so much for answer .

To charge has various meanings. Let’s look at some possibilities.

a) It can mean to require payment. For example, ‘ How much do you charge for a one-hour private lesson?”

2) It can mean to defer or delay payment. For example, ” He bought a shirt and charged it on his credit card.”

3) It can mean to debit an account. For example, ‘The bank charged me $10 to buy a money order.”

So as you can see, the word has several meanings. Hope this helps you. Thanks for your feedback and my best wishes to you.

' src=

Thanks for your feedback.

It would be great if you could join a conversational English class to help you improve your listening and speaking skills. You could also benefit from working with a private teacher.

If you join a series of courses, or make a plan to improve your English, you can make steady progress.

Can’t say how long it will take. It depends on so many different factors, but most of all on how much time you can spend learning and reviewing.

My best wishes to you, dahmani.

RebeccaESL great way of teaching really i impressed with this way. take care B.Regards, M.Yasir

Glad the lessons help you, Muhammad. My best wishes to you.

dear Rebecca

So glad I could help. My best to you.

hi madam rebecca i just wanna ask u about sth. once i saw an interview on youtube with an english actor called Hugh Laurie and it was on slang words and expressions, this actor asked the interviewer about some expression which is(chuffed to bits)which means to be pleased or delighted etc,and the interviewer didn’t know its meaning.and here is the link of that interview if u r interested in it.once again i saw an interview with the canadian singer shania twain, the interviewer said to shania at the very start of that interview”i’m really chuffed to see u again” ,what puzzles me is that canadian accent and american are too much similar to each other and that american interviewer in the 1st. interview i saw didnt know the meaning of chuffed or chuffed to bits as it was in the 1st.while shania twain who is a canadian singer knows the meaning and it wasn’t expected to be known by shania as she is canadian or semi-american i can say,and here is the link in my dictionary the word chuffed is available while in others it is not.

Slang varies according to regions, and that’s why not everyone who speaks English knows all of the expressions.

It’s good that you are interested in the details of the language. This way you will learn even more.

My best to you.

hi her is the link of the 1st. interview that i forgot to post in the above comment

thanx soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much

thank you so much~ i really appreciate it may i ask you a question? what’s difference between “deposit” and “save”? thank you for your reply in advance :)

' src=

When you deposit money in a bank, it just means that you place it in your account. If you keep it there, it may mean the same thing as saving it.

However, you may not leave the money in your account for long! Theoretically, you could withdraw it and spend it all the next minute, and then you wouldn’t have saved any money at all.

When you save it, you actually keep it aside and you don’t spend it. Maybe you are saving small amounts to buy something expensive, or for your retirement, or for an emergency.

I hope this helps. My best wishes to you.

hey rebecca,

thanks for your lesson .. i found your style of teaching is much more easier than all of other teacher here .. i am not that good in this language .. but i want your guidence to learn correctly

' src=

thank you very much i need your advise to help me to become translator in a company ,now i am reading a lot and translate also but it’s not prevent there are a lot of words which i don’t what it means until what i still use the dictionary , when every day i face a lot of new words (please tell me what can i do?)

From what I understand, one should translate into the language you are most familiar with.

To be a translator is not an easy job. You will need to be patient and kind to yourself and move forward step by step.

All the best to you, Magdy.

Hi. I would like to tell you I love this website and your lessons as well. I like Rebeca’s clear and understandable speech, Ronnie’s crazy way of teaching but my favourite is James. I wish I had teachers like you folks:). Keep it going. Greetings from Poland.

Hi Rebecca I’m writing from Venice, Italy. Now I’m studying english because of needs of my work- I’m a technician in an electrical plant and by now I have to speak in english almost every days. I re-started to study english four years ago (I’m 46, and I study it every days for two hours (including on weekend or in vacation). Now I read easily and I understand enought when an english colleague speaks with me but I don’t understand anything when an American collegue (from Texas) speaks with me. In my native language (italian)there is the need to explain well the sentence pronouncing the words properly. This my american colleague jump the auxiliary, he links the words in such a way the they seem other words. For me don’t understand is terrible, I go home with headache. When I listen him, the convertation seems like to listen a scratchy radio. You can understand, my frustration, I try to listen and listen everything I can f.e. podcast, movi, radio, broadcast naturally in english but it is very difficult. When I speak I have to traslate from my language so I don’t speak fluenty and not in property english way. I know, I should go to U.S.A. for a few time in order to make more fluenty my english but this is impossible for me now,. The only thing that now I can do is study a lot…. can you suggest me something else?? Ciao, and sorry for my english.

' src=

Hi rebecca thanks for this leson about money but i propose to give us more deeply lessons about finance, example : accounting, stock market, investing money in projects nafnaf

Sorry Madam when I use the keyboard, I often make mistakes Hi Rebecca, The lesson you presented was clear and concise. Many of my colleagues have enjoyed it. However, our problem here, in Tunisia, is that we lack teaching materials. We often surf the net so as to find some that we can download, but in vain. By the way, I am a 56-year-old Tunisian teacher of English at a faculty of economics and management. I really need reading materials in business English. Thank you so much Ahmed

Hi madam, These videos are commendable and many people across the globe are benefitting through these online lessons as it is observed from the comments by many many people. I have a query given below: A scholarship is to be announced in Curtin University of Australia to get registered in PhD. I am preparing for IELTS in order to get this scholarship as having a score of 6.5 in IELTS is mandatory. IELTS exam costs around AUD215 which is a big amount for a person like me belonging to middle class family. Kindly lend me a hand with some suggestions in order to score well in the exam so that I may not appear for it again. I am fervent to learn English but my reading and writing skills are not as strong as they should be. Could you please suggest me something through which I may enhance my these two skills.

Looking forward for your kind reply. Sania Pakistan

Hi Rebecca, thanks for your classes, and I´d like to solve a doubt ! in the quizz about money, the first expression is “I forgot my wallet at home.” It´s writen “forgot” but in that case, you know where the object is, so do we have to use forgot or left ? So many thanks in advance to clarify my doubt ! Cheers

You use “forgot” because, even though you know where your wallet is, you meant to bring it with you but didn’t remember. If you purposely didn’t bring it with you, you say “I left it at home”.

Thanks for such a great video.

I have to save more money this year. You have to deposit the money before we start loading the containers. Our company borrowed $300000 from the central national bank. He owes me $200 and I have told him that I need that this week. I can lend you only $20 sorry you can ask Jim if he could give you the rest. Last year I invested $1000 in an online marketing project and now I have $3000. I will drive to the bank to withdraw the money you need. My son wasted too much money during the Black Friday night. She transferred the money last night it should show up in your account by today. Before you spend your money think about it if you really need that.

Can somebody please correct my examples?

' src=

Great class Rebeca!

I learned a lot of the differences between this vocabulary.

For you What is the meaning about stock market? in my country es like a walmart jaja

2 Minute Speech On The Money Management In English

Good morning to everyone in this room. I would like to thank the principal, the teachers, and my dear friends for allowing me to speak to you today about money management. Money must be managed carefully since it is so important to our everyday life.

The amount of accessible discretionary money determines the standard of living. It determines where people live, the standard of healthcare they may get, their access to education, and every other necessity for a decent life.

The significance of proper money management cannot be overstated. A personal budget is one tool for money management. A budget is a thorough examination of a person’s financial strategy. It is a crucial instrument for managing personal finances. In essence, it helps to figure out how much money is made and spent.

It has to be dissected down to the last detail. If it isn’t specific, it won’t be complete, which makes it useless. One is in a better position to make accurate short- and long-term financial estimates and judgments if they are aware of how much money one earns and spends.

Ignorance is the biggest cause of people not maintaining personal budgets. Maintaining a personal budget will assist in identifying wasteful spending. Then, this money may be used to fund profitable endeavors like saving or investing in bonds or stocks. Most of these issues may be resolved by implementing efficient money management techniques.

Knowing that one can afford to obtain high-quality goods and services frees up mental space so that one may concentrate on other, more essential things like innovation, a happy family, and strong social ties. Thank you.
