Speech on Environment for Students and Children

3 minutes speech on environment.

Good Morning to one and all present here. I am going to present a short speech on Environment. Our environment consists of all living beings as well as their surroundings. A healthy environment is one that is sustainable for a long period of time. It is the source of life for everyone. It directs the life of everyone and determines the proper growth and development.

Speech on environment

The good or bad quality of our life is depending on the quality of our natural environment. Our need for food, water, shelter, and other things depends on the environment around us. There must be a balanced natural cycle that exists between the environment and the lives of human beings, plants, and animals.

Human society is playing a vital role in degenerating the natural environment which is affecting badly the lives on this planet. All the human actions in this modern world directly impact our ecosystem.  Many actions of us have brought big changes to this planet, resulting in many environmental problems. Increasing demand for technologies and industries is another important factor.

Various Environmental Issues

There are many harmful effects of human activities on the environment. Some of these are pollution, over-population, waste disposal, climate change, global warming, and the greenhouse effect, etc. The big reason that poses a serious threat to our environment is the harmful gases in the air.

The uncontrolled use of automobiles has increased their effects, which in turn emits harmful gases like Carbon monoxide. The electronic appliances like air conditioners and refrigerators also contaminating air by the discharge of harmful substances. The diverse effect of these gases is causing air pollution as well as global warming.

Deforestation is another major reason. The human population is increasing at a fast rate and therefore to meet their daily consumption we need to cut forests and trees. It may be for home or for fuel, but we are causing great loss to the environment.

Other factors are the depletion of natural resources like water, fuel, and food. On the other hand over-consumption of resources by humans and improper waste disposal have resulted in a huge quantity of solid and hazardous wastes. These wastes are other threats to the environment.

Solutions of the Problems of our Environment

Due to all the above human activities, our planet has reached unsustainable levels. Therefore, it is our duty and responsibility to lower the loss. Every individual can play a significant role in this solution.

For example, we should take a pledge to say ‘No’ to plastics. Instead of it, we may make use of Eco-friendly substitutes like paper and cloth bags.

The government of every country must implement strict laws for industries, those are releasing the toxic wastes for proper waste management. The awareness programs should be organized to encourage citizens to use public transport as much as possible.

Also, everyone must do plantation of trees. The less use of private vehicles will reduce the emission of harmful gases as well will save fuel resources.

In the end, I want to say that we must spread environmental awareness in our society as well as in our daily routine life. It is necessary to save and protect our environment. In my view, it is the responsibility of everyone to do our bit for the environment. Therefore, let us work together towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Long And Short Speech For Everyone

Speech On Environment

As global citizens, we all have a responsibility to be good stewards of the planet we call home. Our natural resources are precious and limited. If we don’t make changes now to live more sustainably, future generations will pay the price.

The decisions we make today will have lasting impacts for decades to come. In this speech on the environment, we describe the environment and the problems associated with it.

Speech No.1: Speech On Environment

Good morning

Respected principal, teachers, and my dear school fellows.

I’m here today to speak about the environment. As is common knowledge, the environment is the fundamental setting in which we live.

In general, we should say that the environment refers to the natural setting in which we are living.

The environment is made up of all the elements of nature, including air, water, sunlight, moonlight, trees, and people. To live healthily, everyone needs a healthy atmosphere. It aids in the appropriate growth and development of our lives. Between the environment and all living things, including people and animals, there is a natural cycle. A significant part of the cycle of natural environmental conditions is played by human activities.

The true value of the environment is something we simply cannot comprehend. To better understand it, we can make some educated assumptions regarding its significance. It is essential for maintaining the well-being of all living organisms in the environment. And it preserves the ecological balance necessary to control life on Earth. It satisfies all of the needs of humans, no matter how tiny or great, by providing food, shelter, and air.

In addition, everything that keeps humans alive depends entirely on environmental variables. It also helps maintain the numerous life cycles on the planet. Most significantly, our environment is the wellspring of all that is beautiful about nature and is essential to preserving both our bodily and emotional well-being.

However, there are some issues too; can anyone point them out?

So as a result of increased air, noise, and environmental pollution, as well as deforestation, acid rain, water pollution, soil pollution, and other dangerous natural disasters brought on by human progress in technology, our environment is now being negatively impacted to a great extent.

However, given the rate at which we are harming the environment, things could change too quickly, and there might not be time for a fix.

Fish and other marine species are already in danger of extinction due to the oceans’ depletion of marine oxygen. Climate change and nutrient pollution are the causes of the decrease in ocean oxygen levels. Climate change is mostly a result of human activity, and it poses a threat to the entire environment. These changes are likely alarm signals warning mankind of the environmental harm they cause. It would be pointless to even consider any type of life on earth without a clean and secure environment.

India’s government has unveiled the Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) initiative. But altering our way of life is not simple. Our routines are profoundly established, and many aspects of our surroundings constantly reinforce them. It’s not always simple to turn our intentions of helping the environment into deeds. It’s not impossible, though. We may alter our way of life and develop enduring environmentally friendly habits by taking one step at a time and making one change every day.

According to studies, practicing a behavior for at least 21 days can help it become a habit.

Although the environment is self-sustaining and capable of recovering from harm, a lot depends on how humans handle it. We will receive from the environment in the same manner that we treat it. The message is crystal clear: take care of the environment, and it will reward you. Mistreat it, and be ready to receive mistreatment in return.

To ensure that our natural environment remains safe as normal forever, we must all collectively take a pledge to defend it.

Thank you

Speech No. 2: 2 Minute Speech on Environment For Kids

  • Speaker: Primary School Students
  • Audience: Students, Teachers, General Publi c

Good Morning My Friends and Teacher,

I am (Self Intro)…

Every day we listen to the ‘environment’.

You have a question in your mind ‘What is the Environment’ right?

Today I am here to speak for 2 Minutes on the environment.

The environment is everything around us. This includes the air we breathe, the water we drink, the land we walk on, and all the plants and animals that live with us. It’s like a big house for all living things!

Taking care of the environment is extremely important as it helps us to be healthy and happy. When we keep the air clean, we can breathe easily and do not fall sick. When we conserve water, we can drink it without any worry. And while we take care of the land, we can play and grow delicious food.

But sometimes, people do things that can harm the environment, like littering the ground or using a lot of electricity. When we do these things, it can pollute the air, water, and land and also harm animals and plants.

We can all be superheroes for the environment by doing small things every day. Like picking up the garbage and putting it in the dustbin, turning off the lights when not needed, and using less plastic. We can also plant trees and take care of them so that they give us fresh air to breathe.

Remember, we only have one Earth, so let’s be kind to our environment and help keep it clean and beautiful for ourselves and for all the wonderful creatures that live here with us!

Save Environment Speech For Students

Speech on Save Environment is an important topic for students. Students can avail a well-written speech on the topic ‘save environment speech’ and learn how to write the speech that will impress the audience.

Long Speech

Good morning to one and all present here. I am glad to be given the opportunity to present a speech on Save Environment. Our environment is where we live. There must be harmony between the environment and living beings. In the present scenario, due to overpopulation, the environment is under distress. The situation is alarming as our natural environment is overexploited to meet human needs. It is because of many human activities that we are not able to maintain a healthy balance with nature.

The threat we are facing includes manmade disasters and global warming. These threats are real and have raised an alarming situation. We need to come together to save our environment. This speech on saving nature throws light on why it is needed by mankind to protect and preserve the environment. Our environment offers everything from clothing, water, food to shelter. All living beings are a part of the ecosystem. Hence, it becomes our responsibility to take care of the natural habitat.

Environmental pollution is one of the biggest issues that the modern world faces today. To meet the wants of society, we are putting too much pressure on the natural environment. This leads to damage to nature. The soil is losing its fertility, and in most places, soil pollution makes it difficult to grow crops. Even air and water pollution is the effect of mass urbanization and industrialisation. Controlling the pollution is a need of the hour, however, this still gets neglected by us. I am delivering the speech to save the earth to make you aware of what can be done by each one of us sitting here. We can make our earth a better place to live by taking simple steps like planting a tree, throwing waste in proper bins, saying no to plastic bags, etc. Rather than complaining about pollution, such small steps must be taken to make our environment sustainable.

Environmental problems are also the result of vast technological advancements in the last few years. The overuse of resources to build IT infrastructure is responsible for the loss of the natural environment. Government and international organizations must take proper steps to control pollution and save our mother earth. Environmental protection policies must be strictly enforced. Everyone has to come together to save our mother nature.

Saving our environment is much more important today than ever before. The degrading quality of earth life is what we all are familiar with. However, the early signs of the upcoming destruction are visible. The harsh weather conditions, increased carbon dioxide emissions, melting of glaciers, etc. are the major concerns that needed immediate attention. Let us all do what we can to save our environment and preserve our resources for future generations.

Short Speech

Good morning to all. Today, I am going to give a short speech on saving the environment. We are all aware of how the environment is important to us. We cannot afford to harm the environment any longer. In today’s modern world, our planet earth is affected significantly. However, if we want to live in harmony with nature, we cannot put the entire pressure on the environment. Living beings, for their survival, depend completely on the natural and manmade environment. It is impossible to live without the resources that the atmosphere provides. In such a situation, it becomes critical to save mother nature from getting over-exploited due to the increasing population.

We all know that factors like overpopulation, deforestation, etc. are responsible for environmental destruction. Small steps taken by us can go a long way. We must try to use as much public transport as possible to protect the air we breathe. We must throw garbage in the right bins so that proper disposal of waste and waste management can be done. We need to make efforts in the right direction to conserve our natural resources and habitat. Some of the ways by which we can achieve this are to use renewable energy, avoid plastic bags, plant more trees etc.

Mother nature offers so much to us. We must protect the environment and nature and be a part of sustainable development programmes.

10 Lines Speech

A heartfelt welcome to each one present here. I am here to deliver a speech on saving the environment and saving a life. It is no hidden fact that our environment is affected largely due to human activities. It is facing a threat at an alarming rate. We have over-exploited nature due to our greed. This has caused a natural imbalance. However, we can still do something and protect our environment from all the damages. We must plant more and more trees, throw garbage in the dustbins, avoid using plastic bags, etc. It cannot be denied that our natural environment is such an important part of our ecosystem. It is important to educate people about how the environment is getting damaged. Then only we can have green earth to live in.

Main Causes of Environmental Degradation

Pollution, in any form, is destructive to the environment, whether it be in the form of air, water, land, or noise.

Rapid population increase limits natural resources, resulting in environmental degradation.

Increasing population equals more need for food, clothing, and housing. More land is needed to grow food and provide housing for people. Deforestation occurs, as a result, contributing to environmental degradation.

Deforestation is also caused by using forest areas for agriculture, livestock grazing, fuelwood harvesting, and logging. When forest size decreases, deforestation contributes to global warming by releasing carbon into the atmosphere.

The exhaust gas released by industries is one of the primary sources of pollution. Lead is found in large concentrations in the environment due to a range of substances such as gasoline, paints, ceramics, and batteries.

In recent years, there has been a massive increase in the number of private vehicles. The higher the number of cars, the higher the rate of pollution that causes smog. Lower-level ozone, which is detrimental, is caused by hydrocarbons emitted by engines.

Speech on plant trees, saving mother earth is important for students as it will make them aware of how to use natural resources and how a healthy balance can be maintained between the environment and human life.

Crafting a movie requires the crew to plan everything with utmost precision and that’s exactly where the pre-production stage comes to play.

Likewise, before drafting a speech on the environment, you need to focus upon a few things to enhance the speech’s impact on your audience.

At the same time, these tips will help you to stand out in the crowd.

A) Understanding your True Purpose

know your true purpose as a speaker

You possibly cannot deliver a speech about the environment without feeling deeply about the issue.

Firstly, start by questioning yourself, ‘Why should I be concerned about  our environment ?’

Now, start looking for even the slightest changes in your lifestyle in terms of the environment.

These changes can be as evident as the scarcity of water and as ignored as the less appreciation of nature by humans.

This will provide you with the reasons as to how is the issue affecting you?

These reasons can be listed by you during the course of your speech to establish trust, credibility and relatability factor.

Get yourself aware of the urgency of the situation

Go on the internet, research the issue at hand and make yourself aware of the worst-case scenario, that is, ‘what would happen if human beings do not respond now?’

This way, you will connect with the issue emotionally and this will reflect in your voice as you deliver your speech.

You simply cannot expect your audience to feel deeply about the issue unless you yourself feel that emotional connect.

Because somewhere down the corner, we all are responsible for environmental degradation in our own ways.

This realization must first hit you before you convey this idea through your speech.

This emotional connect will reflect in the form of:

  • the content of your speech
  • vocal variety
  • body language

B) Brainstorming Session

mind mapping technique

A speech as informative as this needs to have right facts in just the right amount and at the right places.

The major issue with most of the environmental speeches is that the right facts are not incorporated in the right way.

  • So, begin with researching the issue and note down the environmental facts.
  • Prepare a mind map to better organize your thoughts . Jot down the main points and make a rough skeleton of your speech.
  • Once you have done this, try thinking from an audiences’ perspective . Ask yourself, ‘If I were the audience, what would be my expectations from a speech about the environment?’ Note down those thoughts as well.

Try not to be generic while doing the brainstorming session, include the pointers other speakers have missed out on.

In order to stand unique as an orator speaking about the environment, one must learn from the mistakes made by other speakers.

Understand what exactly is your audience looking for and frame your speech accordingly.

C) Who is your audience?

audience analysis

Understand the demographics of your audience, like age and level of education, to mold your speech accordingly.

For instance, if you are delivering a speech about the environment at school, you might want to include less jargon and break down the content in a much simpler way for the students to understand.

Similarly, if you are delivering an environmental speech at a workplace, you can incorporate jargon along with relatable lifestyle experiences to convey your ideas better.

A) Out-Of-The-World Title

A speech about the environment can create a certain monotony in the minds of the audience, even before you actually deliver it.

As an audience, we expect that monotony in the environmental speeches.

Thus, a boring speech title can bore your audience to sleep.

Many a times, we stumble upon a speech title we haven’t ever heard of and are naturally drawn to know more about the speech.

The major issue with most of the environmental speeches in current times is a boring title. Titles like  Speech on Save Environment and Speech on Environmental Degradation  can seem pretty daunting to the audience and might disinterest them.

Instead, consider having a thought-provoking title that doesn’t give the speech idea away so that when the audience actually listens to your speech, they pay more attention and start connecting the dots.

This way, something unusual yet related to your speech can assist you to hold the attention of your audience.

Let’s look at a few interesting speech titles. All based on the environment!

Admit it, we’ve grown old reading that water is an essential pre-requisite for the crops to survive and grow.

But, what happens when a speech title tells you otherwise? You obviously get drawn to listen to the speech.

I’m sure after reading this speech title, you are now wondering, ‘which country is she talking about?’

So, the moment you come across a speech title like this, a sense of conflict has been created in your mind and you naturally want to know more about it.

B) Catchy Introduction

A catchy introduction begins with a strong opening line while bringing into light the main idea of the speech.

The attention span of the audience is at its peak at the beginning of a speech. So, now that you know this, make sure you capitalize it!

Instead of starting your speech with something as bland as a  Good Morning , attempt hitting new approaches to grip the attention of the audience throughout the speech.

The last thing a speech topic as common as the environment needs is a bland introduction.

Thus, working on a strong beginning is the most crucial element when it comes to speech writing about environment.

Here are a few interesting ways to jump start your speech:

Start with a story

We all love listening to stories! Be it fictional or real . It’s a personality trait which we all share in common.

You can start your speech on the environment with a story inspired from your own personal experience or you can create your own story.

But, remember even while creating a story from scratch, you need to sound realistic and establish relatability . So, it’s ideal to avoid any sort of exaggeration on your part.

Once you have decided on the story you wish to tell, remember to connect your story with the environment, in general.

To assist you in this process of crafting a story, we have written an article on 9 Storytelling Approaches for Your Next Speech . Check it out to know more!

In this TED Talk, the speaker begins by telling a story about camping by revisiting his childhood days. This gripped the attention of the audience all the way more.

Bringing the Element of Creativity

Use of adequate props and placards can assist you to add real value to the audiences’ experiences, particularly in a speech about the environment.

Think out-of-the-box and bring this element of creativity the next time you deliver a speech.

By bringing this visual element, you make your speech all the more memorable.

Let’s understand this better with the help of an example.

In this TED Talk about the environment, the orator decides to begin her speech by bringing a small jar. Have a look at how well she connects this prop with the essence of her speech.

C) Relatable Anecdotes

Well, what is the point of delivering a great speech if your audience can’t relate to it?

By stating relatable life experiences, you sound more realistic and believable . As a result, the audience starts respecting your thoughts.

For instance, while delivering a speech about environmental problems and solutions, start discussing how the environmental problems have affected you and your family and what solutions you are considering to deal with it.

Essentially, convey these anecdotes in the form of a story and make sure that these anecdotes are relatable.

D) Body of the speech

Here lies the main purpose of your speech!

It is at this point that you start supporting your ideas with relevant facts and evidence .

In this case, while delivering a speech about the environment, be aware of the real purpose of your speech.

If your speech about the environment is required to list down the solutions to save the environment, try leading the solutions with the micro-level steps which we all can practice in our day-to-day lives and then move onto the solutions at a community level.

Because the major flaw with most of the environmental speeches is that we focus a lot more upon the changes at a government level rather than bringing into light the changes at the individual and community level.

It all begins at home and then the awareness is spread at a community level.

Steer clear of stating the obvious while citing supporting shreds of evidence and think innovatively to come up with information that can actually add value to audiences’ experiences.

E) Drafting a Memorable Conclusion

A captivating conclusion keeps your speech alive in the minds of the audience.

First things first, avoid ending your speech with a bland ‘thank you’.

Instead, in the concluding statement, sum up the gist of your speech and provide the audience with a key takeaway.

To maximize the impact of your concluding remarks, end your speech with a poem or an intriguing question, and leave your audience awestruck by providing them with something to ponder upon.

Check this article to learn effective ways to end your speech with maximum impact.

F) Set the Right Mood

Setting the right tone of the speech is extremely crucial.

This way, you guide your audience to perceive your thoughts in just the intended manner.

You can set the right tone with the help of effective body language , facial expressions and voice modulation.

For instance, while delivering a speech about the environment which demands you to cite the solutions, a sense of hope must be reflected throughout the course of your speech. You can achieve this by sounding optimistic in your voice and having open body language.

In a similar fashion, a speech about the environmental problems would require you to sound empathetic in your voice.

4. A Sample Speech on the Environment

“Why should I be studying for a future that soon may be no more, when no one is doing anything to save that future?”, asked Greta Thunberg, and I’m sure we all are in search of an answer to this question, more so in these unprecedented times when the entire world is at a standstill. Environmental depletion, a term we take so lightly, has been increasing with each year passing by. This year (2020 as of writing), Earth Overshoot Day was observed on August 22, exhausting nature’s budget for the year in just seven months. Even as I speak and you listen to this speech, The residents of Goa are raising their voices against an infrastructure plan which is all set to cut through Mollem National Park and destroy the habitat of thousands of animals. Even as I speak, 10,000 clothing items are being sent to landfills every 5 minutes. All because of Fast Fashion! Even as I speak, more than 80 percent of the world population is living under light-polluted skies. All because of light pollution!  And, when we actually reflect upon all of these things, there’s no one to blame but us.  Yet, we choose to remain silent.  So, I ask you today,   Why are we silent? Why don’t we care about the planet we live on?  I believe that by choosing to remain silent over the environmental issues, we are doing a disgrace to the very act of humanity.  Ain’t we ought to save this environment while we still can?  I know that since time immemorial, we have grown up learning about sustainability. In the most literal sense, we PREACH sustainability. But when it comes to bringing that into practice, our values shy away.  All of a sudden, we start to run short of time. You know why? The reason is we don’t appreciate our environment, anymore. And, that’s the root cause that is holding us back in the pathway towards sustainability.  I still remember when I was 10 years old, my father and I had this really nice ritual of going to the park for evening walks. Back then, it just didn’t matter what headspace we’re in, the air of calmness that surrounded the park would just put us at ease. It was THAT therapeutic!   But, coming back to this so-called modern mechanized era, we’ve parted our ways with this ritual. Now, in these times, even the thought of going to a park sounds cliché to all of us!   We need to learn to appreciate, nurture, and love our environment in order to save it. Because it all begins at home! You and I CAN make the difference and now is the time to inculcate sustainable lifestyle habits. The first step here can be as simple as cutting down the waste we produce in the environment. Be it in terms of buying packaged fruits and vegetables from a farmers’ market or making the area you live in litter-free. Moving ahead, the next step might sound a bit difficult because let’s face it- We ALL love shopping! But, when it comes to leading a sustainable lifestyle, minimalism is the key. Start prioritizing every single time you shop for something. When you do this, you value things you own and don’t end up wasting so much.  Gladly, to our relief, the world isn’t that pessimistic. In this age of globalization, we now have people as ‘environmental influencers’ initiating a call for action. Let’s shower our love and support towards them by drawing inspiration from them.  Therefore, I now say,  Let’s pledge to align our values and actions.  Let’s pledge to spend more time in nature.  And most important of all, let’s pledge to save this planet while we are on this planet.

A Speech on the Environment

(The following speeches were updated 25/05/2020)

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

The following speeches are on the important subject of ‘environment’. Before we examine the topic of environment I would like to give credit that, 13,629,563,106+ trees have been planted as of the 4 th of February 2024 toward the Plant 1 Trillion Trees initiative. While scientists agree it’s not the first choice method for offering a world where heating … with CO2 does not spin out of control, (after all we would love The Indonesian rain forest and the Amazon rain forest to be preserved – and to see the end of CFC’s in air conditioning units) but it’s currently our best back up plan and achievable.

1. Speech on the Environment

The environment plays a pivotal role in the existence and growth of all living things on earth and importantly to humankind’s daily lives.  The condition of the environment is very important for the quality of life that humans lead.

Speech on Environment

Speech on the Environment

The definition of ‘Environment’ by the Cambridge English dictionary: ‘The air, water, and land in or on which people, animals, and plants live.’

The environment is extremely important for the growth of all life on the earth. It is the duty of human beings to protect the environment for all species and for our own future.

The abuse of the environment is a hot topic for discussion in the recent times. Several human activities and the high growth of populations are the most important factors causing harmful affects to the environment.

Let us explore some of humankind’s destructive activities: humankind has always cut down trees to make way for farming and or to use the wood and plants. A few great forests remain, namely the Amazon and Indonesia’s great forests. These are under threat by humankind who are exploiting them for logging or to clear them for farming palm oil which is highly sought after world wide. Brazil and Indonesia should be helped by the international community to save these precious resources from deforestation.

Humankind is filling the atmosphere with green house gasses like CO2 and other harmful emissions from industry and fossil fuel use. Hydrofluorocarbons and CFC’s from cooling found in air conditioners cause global warming.

The oceans are being polluted by plastic waste which causes sea life like dolphins to die from stomach problems. According to Nola:

‘plastic six-pack rings can do to marine life. They tangle the wings of sea birds, choke seals and warp the shells of growing sea turtles.

What are the impending dangers: Staggering CO2 emissions are higher than the previous 400,000 years according to the official NASA website.   With other  harmful emissions such as green house gasses released by coal and natural gas and HFC’s the earth heated up by .8 degrees since 1880.

According to Business Insider and NASA some scientists believe the earth may heat up by an incredible 6 degrees by the end of the century. Nations have pledged to keep global warming down to 1.5 % under the Paris Accord. The last 20 years have been the most warming on record. What does this mean for life on Earth? The outlook is gloomy to say the least unless attitudes change. An unprecedented list of animals will become extinct as habitats shrink and oceans encroach the land.

According to National Geographic , Greenland’s coast revealed it lost 280 billion tons of ice between 2002 and 2016. Newer research revealed by scientists and the BBC is that melting from underneath the surface of Greenland ice is much more severe than thought, causing run offs in to the ocean. Ice caps around the world are melting four times faster in the last decade according to NASA.

360 billion tonnes adds 1 mm to world sea levels. However Greenland’s ice sheets will continue to melt at more alarming speeds while temperatures rise. If it were to completely melt it would raise sea levels by 7 meters. The Greenland ice sheets are a fraction of the world’s ice. All of the major ice sheets are showing alarming rates of melting. Antarctic ice melting is speeding up at 6 times more than 4 decades ago according to National Geographic. In short the tipping point is nearer than first imagined. 13 years is an estimate by many scientists. By the end of the century if current heating of the planet rises as predicted large areas of every major city will be flooded. Crops will be flooded and human kind will be in a perilous position (will be on very thin ice – excuse my inappropriate pun).

In November 2019 Australia recorded Australia’s 2 hottest days since records began. Weather of 42 degrees was recorded in Sydney. Fires have raged across the nation amid the catastrophic heatwave. More than 100 fires broke out in South Australia.

The status quo of the environment is on a slippery downward path and mankind should try its level best to protect the destruction of the environment. To save the environment is the need of the hour and some active steps or actions should be taken immediately as the world teeters on the brink of environmental doom.

The best way to protect and save the environment is that human beings should be made aware of the fact that what the environment provides us and what effects the degradation of the environment will have on us. The heating of the planet by activities of mankind is a major cause for concern. As the earth gets hotter, ice melts and water levels rise, Illness, hunger and flooding will be a major problem this century if nothing is done. Swathes of farming land will be flooded. If all human beings learn the importance of the environment we can actively participate in the campaign of saving the Earth.

What can we do to help?

Some good news: with humankind’s innovation it’s not too late to even reverse global warming and pollution of the environment. Lets look at some cases for the good of the environment. A Florida brewery has unveiled six-pack rings that feed sea turtles rather than kill them. After years of research and development, the rings -made of wheat and barley are now entering south Florida stores. CO2 storage research is making headlines in Science. A team of researchers have found a way of storing CO2 harmlessly under the ocean floor. It will need a change of attitudes and large investment to make this CCS vision practical.

We can help in personal ways and governments should help nationwide and globally. On a personal level we can stop using plastic bags and reusable plastic straws. We can use cloth and other reusable bags when we go shopping. We can try to use less products with palm oil which is prompting widespread deforestation. We can lower our carbon footprint by eating less meat – large scale farming creates huge amounts of CO2 from the emissions and upkeep of cattle.

If we live in cold climates we can switch from gas boilers to heat pumps which are more energy efficient. If we live in warmer climates we can use ceiling fans which are more energy efficient than air conditioning units until industry stops using HFC’s which are warming the planet.

Governments can should stop projects for greatly increase population growths for economic gains as populations are using resources and encroaching on nature and causing CO2. Governments should protect habitats which are almost never given back to nature. Governments can phase out use of Hydro fluorocarbons and CFC’s in refrigerators and all air conditioners as they have a staggeringly high green house warming affects.  Governments should promote the conditions for use of electric cars and electric flight.

2. Environment short speech

The environment is precious and has existed in a remarkable state to allow humans to thrive. We are dependent on the environment for our basic needs. There is a balanced natural cycle that exists between the environment and human beings.

Human beings have started overusing natural resources and have broken this natural balance. Human societies are playing a vital role in upsetting the conditions for wildlife and the wellbeing of the environment that allows humans, sea life and mammals to thrive. The result:  the planet we live in is suffering deforestation, pollution, extinction of various species and rising temperatures.

Human actions directly affect the planet in general. The indiscriminate exploitation of the environment has led to an ecological crisis. With the improvement of technology and medical care, the interaction with the environment has changed. Humankind has in it’s power the skills to halt the problem. Firstly, it will take a change of attitudes.  Populations are growing at rapid rates in some countries, adding to the sad plight of the environment in general.

Many countries have  problems protecting the environment. China is the biggest user of plastic in the world and alarmingly the country’s largest rubbish dump – the size of around 100 football fields – is already full, 25 years ahead of schedule. Past mass population drives have helped cause the problem.

In a positive move to help the environment, China, announced on the 20 th of January, 2024 it is banning single use non-degradable plastic bags in major cities by the end of 2024 and in all towns by 2024. Restaurants will also not be able to use single use plastic straws.

With the growth of populations natural resources are getting depleted. This will cause a huge problem in our future generations. Some effects of this are soil erosion, exhaustion of underground water, shortage of fresh drinking water, rise in atmospheric temperature, melting of ice caps, rise of sea level and the list goes on.

Effect on human beings:

The deterioration of the environment inherently affects human beings. The depletion of the ozone layer causes skin cancer. Moreover, excess pollution leads to various respiratory problems like asthma or lung cancer. It is also said to affect the agriculture. If those causes are not bad enough, if the ice fields melt sea levels will rise causing widespread disasters.

According to research, the perennial snow mountains in Tibet were covered in thick layers of snow. In the recent years it has started melting and is getting thinner day by day. This is a serious issue as it will lead to the rise in the sea level and will also lead to an increase in the average temperature of the planet. As the temperature of the oceans increase, hurricanes and typhoons become more frequent.

Speeches on the Environment

It is time to get past the stage of denial and ignorance. The world is heading towards an inevitable result, and we need to take matters in to our own hands. It is imperative to abide by recommendations issued by The World Health Organization.

What can we do to help the environment?

Planting a trillion trees across the planet is one of the best and cheapest ways of taking 25 percent of CO2 out of the atmosphere and helping tackle the crisis of global warming. The need for urgent action is clear, as rapid climate change is progressing apace.

Short Speech on Environment in English

Respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends. Good morning to all of you.

Today I am going to speak on the topic- Environment.

The environment can also be understood as our surroundings or conditions in which all living, non-live and interact. It consists of all the living things on earth including air, water, sunlight, plant, animals, etc.

Our environment is very important to us as it provides us with our basic necessities to live such as food, shelter, air, and water. This way it plays a very important role in keeping the living beings healthy.

Every essential part of the environment has a role to play for us. For example, trees and plants filter the air we breathe and protect us from harmful gases in the environment.

We cannot repay the countless benefits we receive from our environment. It has helped us from years to grow and flourish but we are harming it every day. As a result, our environment is degrading.

Human activities are causing environmental degradation. We are responsible for air, water, and land pollution. We are also indirectly responsible for global warming, greenhouse gases, and ozone depletion.

We are overusing our natural resources. There are enough resources for man’s need but not for man’s greed. If we will keep consuming our resources at a faster pace, there will be nothing left for future generations for consumption.

Our environment has given us so much to lead a healthy life but in return, we are only degrading it. If we will degrade it completely, we will not be able to survive.

It is high time that we should pay some attention to environmental concerns. Initiatives like the plastic ban, promotion of the use of paper bags, growing more plants, car-pooling, etc are required in order to protect our environment and save it from further degradation. Our small efforts, for example, saving electricity, saving water helps save our environment.

It is our moral responsibility to protect our surroundings. When we can keep our house clean and protected, we can keep our environment too.

Long and Short Speech on Environment in English

Environment speech 1.

Good Morning Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As today, the whole school has been assembled here for this beautiful occasion of World Environment Day that is celebrated on 5 th June every year; I would like to say a few words dedicated to the environment.

The environment is the surroundings made from five elements namely- Air, Water, Land, Sky, and Fire for us to flourish. It has been always said that only earth has the most favourable climatic conditions that help us to survive. We should be very grateful towards the earth that we have been provided with such a great environment that has everything in its nature which helps us to thrive. But day by day we are ruining it on the highest pitch that will eventually lead us towards our destruction.

We should understand the importance of the natural environment and try to deduce our non-eco-friendly activities and imperatively plant as many trees as we can and save water that is the two biggest issues.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Environment

Environment Speech 2

Hon’ble Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As this special assembly has been called for addressing the biggest issue these days regarding our environment, I would like to express my views on it. It has been recognized by the entire world that our environment is not as it was before. There are drastic changes that have been occurred since few years such as climatic changes, increment in natural disasters, etc all due to our changing lifestyle.

Our environment consists of 5 elements- Air, Water, Land, Fire and Sky and we have disturbed the process of entire ecosystem by cutting the vast amount of trees who contributes the most in balancing the environmental cycle, installment of large polluting industries, hunting/poaching of animals leading towards their endangerment, etc.

Out of this, the question arises is that what kind of future we want or what kind of future we are going to hand over to our next generations? Is this the kind of development we all have dreamt about? Walking with a mask on our faces, struggle in floods and earthquakes, destruction of animals who aren’t even aware of what’s happening around.

Now this is the high time where we need to recognize the importance of our natural environment and try every possible action towards saving it from saving water to planting trees.

Environment Speech 3

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers and my dear friends. The topic of my speech is Environment. Environment is the surrounding in which we live. It is the source of life. Our whole life is dependent to the environment. It directs our life and determines our proper growth and development.

Good or bad quality of social life depends on the quality of our natural environment. The need of human beings for food, water, shelter and other things depends on the environment around us. There is a balanced natural cycle exists between environment and lives of human beings, plants and animals. Human society is playing vital role in degenerating the natural environment which in turn negatively affects the lives on this planet. All the human actions in this modern world directly impact the whole ecosystem.

All the actions have brought a big change in this planet which resulted in many environmental problems. Increasing demand of technologies and industries in the modern time impacts the nature. The increasing invention of new technologies has changed the interaction of people with environment which permits more population to grow.

The modern technologies have immense power which has altered the whole environment in an unimagined way. The indiscriminate use of environment is the root of ecological crisis. Such continuous increase in the technologies and human behaviour are correspondingly very serious. Such amazing technologies have become the reason of economic growth in 20 th century however it had dramatically affected the natural resources.

Some of the environmental problems are rapid growth in world population, deteriorating natural resources, diminishing forests and wetlands, erosion of soil and coral reefs, depleting underground water, regular shortage of fresh drinking water, vanishing plants, salinization in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Middle East. Some other issues are loss of biodiversity, rapid extinction of some important animal species, collapse of fisheries, rising air and water pollution, rise in atmospheric temperature, thinning of ozone layer, spoiling rivers, seas and underground resources.

Even though science and technology have radically altered the terms of adaptation to the nature, we still need to adapt to the environment. Human society is embedded in an environment. We must not forget that the human being is first and foremost an animal, sharing living space with other animal species in an environment on which they are mutually dependent. It is our responsibility to save our environment and earth and make the possibility of healthy and happy life here.

Environment Speech 4

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech over Environment. To run the life in healthy happy way, we all need a healthy and natural environment. Continuously increasing human population adversely affects the forests. Human beings are cutting forests to a great extent for making their home to live securely however they do not think of the problems arises due to the lack of forests.

It completely disturbs the natural cycle between environment and life on the earth. Because of the over-population, the number of various chemical elements is increasing in the atmosphere which ultimately causes irregular rainfall and global warming. We cannot imagine the negative effects of global warming over the climate and lives of human beings and other living species.

According to the research it is found that the perennial snow mountains of the Tibet were totally covered by the thick snow in the past however those thick snows are getting very thin day by day over last few decades because of the global warming. Such condition is very dangerous situation and indication of end of life on earth which needs to be taken very seriously by all countries worldwide. It is very true that climate change goes very slow however slow continuous process is very dangerous.

Because of the regular changes in the environment physical structure of the human beings and other living species has been changed from generation to generation. Increasing human population needs more land for agricultural cultivation and living purpose which force them to cut more trees and forests so the deforestation has its own dangerous side effects.

Increasing level of industrialization has countless harmful effects on the atmosphere because of the poisonous chemical emissions and dangerous wastes drainage in the big water resources such as Yamuna, Ganga, and other rivers. The ever changing (negatively) environment is not the issue of only some countries or government; it is the issue of whole human fraternity because we all are the reason of this negatively declining environment so we all are responsible to save our natural environment for the healthy survival of life on the earth.

Protecting the atmosphere is the matter of high importance for all the present and future generations of mankind. The main purpose of my speech today over the environment is only to increase the public awareness among common people about the reasons of declining environment as well as need of healthy and natural environment for the life on earth. So, it is my humble request to all of you that please contribute to save your environment.

Environment Speech 5

Good morning to my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech on the Environment to increase awareness among public about the negatively changing environment. An environment is the natural surrounding which covers and protects us from the natural disasters.

However, our healthy and natural environment is getting worse day by day and taking the form of demon affecting everything from non-living to living beings. What we know is two types of environment called natural environment and built environment. The natural environment is one which exists naturally and the one for which man is responsible such as cities etc is called built environment. There are many natural and unnatural factors polluting the whole natural atmosphere.

Some of the natural factors like volcanoes, flood, etc are the reasons of declining environment. However, manmade reasons are more rampant caused due to the reckless and the caustic human nature are highly responsible for the environmental pollution. Self centred human activities are highly responsible for the destruction of the environment. Other environmental threats like forests degradation, global warming, pollution, etc are the reasons of environment degradation. Continuous increasing temperature of the earth surface in the atmosphere because of the many human made and natural means calls to the various natural calamities causing disturbance to a great extent to the healthy and common life of human and all other living beings.

Our natural environment has become hugely changed in the last few decades and has taken form of big and powerful demon affecting the lives of people every single moment. Nature has made everything to run in balance with the natural cycle however many factors causes environmental corrosion. The factors like population growth and economic advancement are considered as the major factors giving rise to many other secondary factors.

We must understand the importance of ecological balance and try our best to run it naturally in order to prevent the effects of environmental disasters and promote the existence of healthy environment. We should promote common public in our surroundings for the clean and green environment to prove the meaning of proverb like “We won’t have a society if we destroy the environment”.

Environment Speech 6

First of all I would like to say good morning to the Excellencies, respected teachers, and my dear friends. As we all know that we have gathered here to celebrate this auspicious occasion, I would like to speech over the environment in order to make you aware of our continuously declining environment so that we all together can be successful in saving our environment by taking some effective steps. As we know that we live on the planet of earth having different types of surroundings called environment within which we can eat healthy, breathe freshly, and live safely.

However, what happens to our lives if any means of natural or manmade causes of environment degradation takes place, we cannot imagine the extent of loss to the human and other living beings existence. The ecology balance and natural cycles has become disturbed which is very hard to bring back and give it a natural shape. However, there is a common saying that “prevention is better than cure”, so we never gets tired of trying our best to save the environment.

Physical environment on this planet provides all of us a favourable required condition and supports the existence and growth of various forms of life here. Natural or physical environment is provided by the nature however all forms of the living beings together constitute another environment called biological environment. Both of the environments are closely connected to each other and make a unique natural system for the life survival. If the biological environment gets disturbed, physical environment automatically gets disturbed and both hugely affect the human lives together.

Another environment which is completely depending on the human is socio-cultural environment made by the human beings. Whatever environment is, it must be healthy, safe and secure to continue the evergreen life on the earth in present and future.

We should realize our mistakes and concern about the environment in order to keep it clean, safe and secure for the healthy life. Many of the human activities like deforestation, industrialization, technological improvements and so many are leading our environment towards danger and keeping lives at risk by influencing the growth, development and survival of all organisms.

Various types of environmental pollution such as water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution, etc are disturbing the ecosystem and causing variety of health hazards to the human beings and animals. Environmental pollution is damaging the ecosystem and destroying the delicate balance of the natural ecosystem. So, now-a-days environmental pollution is the matter of great concern and consideration for which we all together follow some effective steps and carry on until problems gets solved completely.

Long and Short Speech on Environment in English

Environment speech 1.

Good Morning Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As of today, the whole school has been assembled here for this beautiful occasion of World Environment Day, which is celebrated on 5 th June every year; I would like to say a few words dedicated to the environment.

The environment is the surroundings made from five elements: Air, Water, Land, Sky, and Fire for us to flourish. It has always been said that only earth has the most favorable climatic conditions to help us survive. We should be very grateful to the earth that we have been provided with such a great environment with everything in its nature that helps us thrive. But day by day, we are ruining it on the highest pitch that will eventually lead us towards our destruction.

We should understand the importance of the natural environment, try to deduce our non-eco-friendly activities, and imperatively plant as many trees as possible and save water, which are the two biggest issues.

Thank you, and have a nice day!

Environment Speech 2

Hon’ble Principal, Teachers, and My Dear Friends!

As this special assembly has been called to address the biggest issue these days regarding our environment, I would like to express my views on it. The world has recognized that our environment is not as it was before. Drastic changes have occurred in a few years, such as climatic changes, increment in natural disasters, etc., all due to our changing lifestyle.

Our environment consists of 5 elements- Air, Water, Land, Fire, and Sky and we have disturbed the process of the entire ecosystem by cutting the vast amount of trees that contribute the most to balancing the environmental cycle, installment of large polluting industries, hunting/poaching of animals leading towards their endangerment, etc.

Out of this, the question arises what kind of future we want or what kind of future we will hand over to our next generations? Is this the kind of development we all have dreamt about? Walking with a mask on our faces, struggling in floods and earthquakes, destruction of animals who aren’t even aware of what’s happening.

Now, this is high time we need to recognize the importance of our natural environment and try every possible action towards saving it, from saving water to planting trees.

Environment Speech 3

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers, and my dear friends. The topic of my speech is Environment. The environment is the surrounding in which we live. It is the source of life. Our whole life is dependent on the environment. It directs our life and determines our proper growth and development.

The good or bad quality of social life depends on our natural environment. Human beings need food, water, shelter, and other things depending on their environment. A balanced natural cycle exists between the environment and the lives of humans, plants, and animals. Human society plays a vital role in degenerating the natural environment, negatively affecting this planet’s lives. All the human actions in this modern world directly impact the whole ecosystem.

All the actions have brought a big change to this planet, resulting in many environmental problems. The increasing demand for technologies and industries in modern times impacts nature. The growing invention for new technologies has changed the interaction of people with an environment, which permits more populations to grow.

Modern technologies have immense power and have altered the whole environment in an unimagined way. The indiscriminate use of the environment is the root of the ecological crisis. Such continuous increases in technologies and human behavior are correspondingly very serious. Such amazing technologies became the reason for economic growth in the 20 th century; however, they dramatically affected natural resources.

Environmental problems include rapid growth in world population, deteriorating natural resources, diminishing forests and wetlands, erosion of soil and coral reefs, depleting underground water, regular shortage of fresh drinking water, vanishing plants, and salinization in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Good morning to the Excellencies, my respected teachers, and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech over Environment. To run life in a healthy, happy way, we all need a healthy and natural environment. Continuously increasing the human population adversely affects the forests. Human beings are cutting forests to a great extent to make their home live securely; however, they do not think of the problems arising from the lack of forests.

It completely disturbs the natural cycle between the environment and life on the earth. Because of the over-population, the number of various chemical elements is increasing in the atmosphere which ultimately causes irregular rainfall and global warming. We cannot imagine the negative effects of global warming on the climate and the lives of human beings and other living species.

According to the research, it is found that the perennial snow mountains of Tibet were covered by thick snow in the past; however, those thick snows are getting very thin day by day over the last few decades because of global warming. Such a condition is a very dangerous situation and an indication of the end of life on earth, which needs to be taken very seriously by all countries worldwide. It is very true that climate change goes very slow; the however, slow continuous process is very dangerous.

Because of the regular changes in the environment physical structure of human beings and other living species has been changed from generation to generation. Increasing human population needs more land for agricultural cultivation and living purpose, which force them to cut more trees and forests, so deforestation has its dangerous side effects.

The increasing the level of industrialization has countless harmful effects on the atmosphere because of the poisonous chemical emissions and dangerous waste drainage in the big water resources such as the Yamuna, Ganga, and other rivers. The ever-changing (negatively) environment is not the issue of only some countries or government; it is the issue of whole human fraternity because we all are the reason of this negatively declining environment, so we all are responsible to save our natural environment for the healthy survival of life on the earth.

Protecting the atmosphere is a matter of high importance for all the present and future generations of mankind. The main purpose of my speech today over the environment is only to increase the public awareness among common people about the reasons of declining environment as well as need of healthy and natural environment for the life on earth. So, it is my humble request to all of you that you please contribute to saving your environment.

Environment Speech 5

Good morning to my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to give a speech on the Environment to increase awareness among the public about the negatively changing environment. An environment is the natural surrounding which covers and protects us from the natural disasters.

However, our healthy and natural environment is getting worse daily and taking the form of demons affecting everything from non-living to living being we know is two types of environ: natural environment and built environment. The natural environment is one that exists naturally, and the one for which man is responsible such as cities etc., is called the built environment. There are many natural and unnatural factors polluting the whole natural atmosphere.

Some of the natural factors like volcanoes, floods, etc. are the reasons for the declining environment. However, manmade reasons are more rampant caused due to reckless and caustic human nature are highly responsible for the environmental pollution. Self centred human activities are highly responsible for the destruction of the environment. Other environmental threats like forest degradation, global warming, pollution, etc. are the reasons for environmental degradation. Continuous increasing temperature of the earth’s surface in the atmosphere because of the many human-made and natural means calls to the various natural calamities causing disturbance to a great extent to the healthy and common life of human and all other living beings.

Our natural environment has become hugely changed in the last few decades and has taken the form of a big and powerful demon affecting the lives of people every single moment. Nature has made everything to run in balance with the natural cycle however many factors causes environmental corrosion. The factors like population growth and economic advancement are considered as the major factors giving rise to many other secondary factors.

We must understand the importance of ecological balance and try our best to run it naturally to prevent the effects of environmental disasters and promote a a healthy environment. We should promote common public in our surroundings for a clean and green environment to prove the meaning of proverbs life “won’t have a society if we destroy the environment.”

Environment Speech 6

Hi all, I would like to say good morning to the Excellencies, respected teachers, and my dear friends. As we all know that we have gathered here to celebrate this auspicious occasion, I would like to speak over the environment of our continuously declining environment so that we all together can be successful in saving our environment by taking some effective steps. As we know that we live on the planet of the earth, having different types of surroundings called environments within which we can eat healthily, breathe freshly, and live safely.

However, what happens to our lives if any means of natural or manmade causes of environment degradation occurs? We cannot imagine the extent of loss to the human and other living beings’ existence. The ecology balance and natural cycles has become disturbed which is very hard to bring back and give it a natural shape. However, there is a common “saying that “prevention is better than cure,” so we never get tired of trying our best to save the environment.

The physical environment on this planet provides all of us a favorable required condition and supports the existence and growth of various forms of life The nature provides natural or physical environment however all forms of the living beings together constitute another environment called biological environment. Both environments are closely connected and make a unique natural system for the life survival. If the biological environment gets disturbed, the physical environment automatically gets disturbed, and both hugely affect human lives together.

Another environment that is completely dependent on human is the socio-cultural environment made by human beings. Whatever environment is, it must be healthy, safe and secure to continue the evergreen life on the earth in present and future.

We should realize our mistakes and concern about the environment in order to keep it clean, safe and secure for a healthy life. Many human activities like deforestation, industrialization, technological improvements, and so many others are leading our environment towards danger and keeping lives at risk by influencing the growth, development, and survival of all organisms.

Various types of environmental pollution, such as water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution, etc., are disturbing the ecosystem and causing a variety of health hazards to human beings and animals. Environmental pollution damages the ecosystem and destroying the delicate balance of the natural ecosystem. So, nowadays environmental pollution is a matter of great concern and consideration for which we all together follow some effective steps and carry on until problems get solved completely.

Short Speech On Environment For Students

Speech On Environment For Students In School – Speech is an idea or thought conveyed by someone to the public verbally at a certain event or meeting, such as the environment day. There are many themes that can be conveyed in a speech, one of them is about the environment.

If you’re looking for an example of short speech about the environment, then you were coming to the right place. Because we will be providing a short speech on environment for students.

Good morning to the honorable teachers and all of my beloved friends Let us together praise to God because of His blessings we can all gather in a healthy state on this day. My friends that I’m proud of, First of all we need to realize that the environment is a living place for us all, mankind. So we have to keep our environment healthy in order to make a profit for us, not a loss or even a disaster for us. One way that we are able to do to keep the environment healthy is to keep the environment clean. In maintaining the cleanliness of the environment, we need to know in advance what is the meaning of environmental hygiene. The real meaning of environmental hygiene is a situation where the environment is suitable for human beings, where the state of human health can be physically maintained. So we must maintain the cleanliness of the environment in order to create a decent and prosperous life. My lovely friends, Maintaining the environmental hygiene is the best way to prevent diseases that lurk in the rainy season as it is now. Maintain cleanliness of the environment can be started from cleaning our beloved school. If our school is clean then other people will not hesitate to imitate our good habits in cleaning our school. Moreover, we, as residents or parts of this school, are also got the positive impact in teaching and learning activities that we feel comfortable because our school environment is clean. Maintain the cleanliness of school environment can be done by throwing waste in the school environment into the trash, carrying out regular class picket activities every day and doing the program of cleaning the school environment together in 30 minutes every Thursday in order to clean the school environment from diseases, such as dengue fever caused by mosquito. My friends, In conclusion, I reemphasize that cleanliness is a part of faith so if someone does not care about cleanliness then he is not really a full believer. In the future, I also hope we, as human beings, can be even more active in maintaining the cleanliness of the environment, especially the cleanliness of our school environment. That is all from me. I apologize for any mistake I have done. Thank you for your attention.

That was the short speech on environment for students. You can use it for any important event about the environment, such as The Environment Day. Keep practicing the speech and good luck!

With 19 Words, Louis Gossett Jr.'s Oscar Acceptance Speech Taught a Bittersweet Lesson

It's very short, but there's a line in it that caught my attention--and then had me looking up the story.

Louis Gossett Jr. died Friday at the age of 87. It's sad news. As people mourn, I'd suggest looking back to a specific line in the late actor's 1983 Academy Awards acceptance speech, which carries a hidden note of optimism that I think is very relevant today.

If you don't know Gossett, here's your binge-watching assignment: Start with the movie for which he became the first Black actor to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, An Officer and a Gentleman (it still holds up today), then go back and check out Roots , and work your way down his IMDB page.

A prolific performer with a 70-year career--Gossett was in The Color Purple last year, and he's in several other works that haven't even been released yet--it was at the suggestion of one of my editors at Inc. that I went back and looked at his Oscar speech.

It's short, but there's a line in it that caught my attention--and then had me looking up the story. It really comes down to these 19 words:

"I've got a spirit that guides me, starting with my great-grandmother who died at the age of 117."

Although he didn't have time to get into it on stage, Gossett explained his great-grandmother's story in an interview a few years later.

In short, her name was Bertha Ray, she had been born a slave, and she was one of the people who raised Gossett as a child. He also revealed that her exact age wasn't known, but that it has been somewhere around 115 or more:

"We started the family Bible after slavery was abolished. My great-grandmother remembered the Bible being started, which meant that she was a slave as a young girl. When she died, the Bible was at least 105 years old, so she must have been nearly 115 years old. Her daughter, my grandmother, died at 97, and her husband at 98. It was the older women who took care of the children, and the matriarch of my family was my great-grandmother. She raised us all, including all my cousins."

Elsewhere on an episode of PBS's American Masters , Gossett shared a photo of himself with Bertha Ray, and revealed that she had lived long enough to see him star in a leading role on Broadway in 1953--his first professional role.

I know that I can be a bit sentimental. But it's striking and bittersweet to imagine that even in the third decade of the 21st century, our collective American history is short enough that an acting icon who died a few days ago could have been raised, at least in part, by a woman who had experienced firsthand what it was like to have been enslaved in the United States.

It's also ironically hopeful, given what the horrors of slavery would have been like, to realize that Bertha Ray would have lived to see so many things she could never have imagined. And then, to be remembered to the world as she was via her great-grandson's speech.

Truly, Gossett had a heck of a career in film, on television, and on stage. Heck, when I went through my officer basic school for the army in 1999, his performance as the drill sergeant in An Officer and a Gentleman was already so iconic that I remember my fellow soldiers imitating him (along with Ronald Lee Ermey's drill sergeant performance in Full Metal Jacket , of course).

Gossett knew Nelson Mandela, and he also talked about experiencing racism firsthand, including a story about how on his first trip to Hollywood, police arrested him and left him handcuffed to a tree for three hours.

This was for the crime, as he put it, of being Black and driving a fancy car. But he also seemed to have a strong capacity for empathy and even forgiveness.

And he credited his great-grandmother, Bertha Ray, as one of the people who led him to become what he was.

"We'd better take care of ourselves and one another better," he said toward the end of one of his last long interviews, with CBS Sunday Morning in 2020. "Otherwise nobody's going to win anything. We need each other, quite desperately, for mutual salvation."

Here's Gossett's Oscar speech from 1983:

Speech on Environmental Pollution

Environmental pollution is an issue of grave concern. Day by day, the condition is getting worse, and it’s high time to take action. Read the following article, collect maximum ideas, and develop a comprehensive speech about pollution in our environment – one of the interesting speech topics for kids .

Table of Contents

Environmental pollution speech in english, two-minute speech on environmental pollution, one-minute speech on environmental pollution, top quotes to use in a speech on environmental pollution, frequently asked questions on environmental pollution, sample speeches on environmental pollution.

A couple of sample speeches are given below. Go through them and utilise the resource to prepare a short speech on pollution.

What is pollution? Pollution can be defined as the introduction of unwanted harmful substances into the earth that brings adverse effects on the environment and living organisms. It destroys the ecological balance. There are mainly six types of environmental pollution and they are air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution, thermal pollution, and radioactive pollution.

Air pollution can be defined as the mixing of external harmful gases and particles in the atmosphere. It is caused by the release of contaminants like toxic gases, chemicals, and other particulate matter. The impact of air pollution can be severe; it varies from person to person. Air pollution impoverishes our lives by causing global warming, acid rain, ozone depletion and increasing the risk of cancer, respiratory diseases, skin diseases, etc.

Water pollution is caused by the illogical waste management of human beings. Contaminants are introduced into the water bodies by human activities like disposing of untreated industrial sewages, agricultural runoffs with fertilisers and pesticides, dumping of solid wastes, etc. Water pollution is a great threat to marine life. Disrupting marine life affects our food cycle and damages our ecosystem.

The contamination of soil due to the presence of chemicals or other harmful particles is called soil pollution. It, directly and indirectly, affects our lives. Excessive use of chemicals like pesticides and fertilisers for agricultural production, mining, improper waste disposal, and acid rain are some of the major causes of soil pollution. As a result of soil pollution, the soil loses its fertility and deteriorates natural vegetation. It adversely affects the organisms residing in the soil, degrades agricultural productivity, and even results in famine.

Noise pollution is caused by the excessive amounts of noise in our environment. Noise pollution is generally man-made, and it badly affects the natural balance of our ecosystem. Any sound which is over 85 decibels is harmful to human health. Due to globalisation and industrialisation, the level of noise pollution in our environment has increased drastically. Some of the main contributors to noise pollution are machinery used in industries, noise emitted by vehicles, sounds produced during construction work, noise during public festivals and social events, etc. Noise pollution has become a major issue for many developed and developing nations. As a consequence, people are facing sleeping disorders, hearing loss, hypertension, stress-related illnesses, etc.

Thermal pollution is caused by the sudden increase or decrease of the temperature of a natural body of water. Industrial machinery and power plants are the major contributors to thermal pollution. For the process of cooling machinery, water from nature is collected and used. But after this mechanism, the temperature of the water gets altered. By pumping back the water, the thermal balance of the natural source of water becomes affected and results in thermal pollution. It changes the oxygen level and destroys ecosystems.

The pollution caused by the release of radioactive substances into the environment during nuclear explosions, nuclear weapon production and decommissioning, mining of radioactive ores, and disposal of radioactive wastes are called radioactive pollution.

All this pollution has had a great impact on our lives. Many environmental catastrophes like global warming, acid rain, famine, drought, earthquakes, etc., are the returns given to us by earth for our greed. If we continue to pollute, then be ready to face the end.

Environmental pollution is one of the most troubling global issues. It is caused by the harmful effect of pollutants that are discharged into the environment by the irrational actions of human beings. The actions of such pollutants badly affect our environment and transform it into an unhealthy place to live. Environmental pollution can be stated as the unfavourable alteration of our environment with severe long term consequences. Improper waste management, exploitation of natural resources, and urban-industrial technological revolutions are considered some of the main causes for environmental pollution.

Environmental pollution is a global issue, and it is not at all a new term to any of us. The phenomenon has been here for many decades, but the solution still remains obscure. The wheel of time is spinning over human beings and nature. Nature will always find its way to survive, and it’s our only hope. Like the words of John James Audubon, “A true conservationist is a man who knows that his fathers do not give the world, but borrowed from his children”, let’s realise that the conservation of our environment is never a choice but an urgency for our future.

The aftereffects of environmental pollution are intolerable. It results in the loss of vegetation, irregular functioning of the ecosystem, loss of biodiversity, and poses a threat to human life. Any pollution that brings undesirable changes to the environment can be listed as environmental pollution. The types of pollution vary depending on the nature and the component on which the pollutant marks its effect.

Nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide, mercury, CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon), particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds are some of the harmful pollutants that cause environmental pollution.

  • “Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. It can only be prevented.” – Barry Commoner.
  • “Sooner or later, we will have to recognise that the Earth has rights, too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans.” – Evo Morales.
  • “Where the quality of life goes down for the environment, the quality of life goes down for humans.” – George Holland.
  • “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” – Mahatma Gandhi.
  • “The only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved.” – Richard Rogers.
  • “Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans.” – Jacques Yves Cousteau.
  • “Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be dispersed because we’ve been ignorant of their value.” – R. Buckminster Fuller.
  • “Pollution is a serious one: water pollution, air pollution, and then solid hazardous waste pollution. And then, beyond that, we also have the resources issue. Not just water resources but other natural resources, the mining resources being consumed, and the destruction of our ecosystem.” – Ma Jun.
  • “We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.” – Aldo Leopold.
  • “The ecological crisis is doing what no other crisis in history has ever done — challenging us to a realisation of a new humanity.” – Jean Houston.

What is environmental pollution, and what are the main pollutants?

Environmental pollution can be stated as the unfavourable alteration of our environment with severe long term consequences. It is caused by the harmful effect of pollutants that are discharged into the environment by the irrational actions of human beings. Any pollution that brings undesirable changes to the environment can be listed as environmental pollution. Nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide, mercury, CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon), particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds are some of the harmful pollutants that cause environmental pollution.

Long Speech on Environment 600 Words in English

Environment Essay is usually given to classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Greetings to one and all.

The environment plays a crucial role in the growth and development of all the living things on Earth, especially to humanity’s everyday life. Environmental conditions play a vital role in determining the quality of life that humans lead.

The environment is an important segment that enables the growth of all life and biotic components on Earth. It is man’s responsibility to protect the environment for all the species for the near future. However, the contemporary world has gained an increasing demand for industries and technologies that have led to environmental abuse.

Before the inception of industrialization, the environment was in a pretty good state- with clean water resources, pure air, fertile soil, and happy natural environment for al living things.

Human society is the sole reason behind the degeneration of the natural habitat which has now altered and led to the adverse effects on this planet. Human actions in the contemporary world have impacted and caused an imbalance to the ecosystem. Many of our activities have created drastic changes, resulting in many environmental problems.

The rapid urbanization and industrialization have led to massive exploitation of our natural resources. The contemporary world’s hot topic of discussion is the abuse of the environment. Several human activities and the high rate of population growth have created an adverse impact on the environment.

We have carelessly degenerated and exploited the natural resources without any care for the environment. We have cleared forests relentlessly to pave the way for new buildings and cities. Our need for electricity has led to a massive amount of burning coals resulting not only pollution but also global warming. Now the earth’s atmosphere has trapped heat, creating a dangerous situation.

Various other factors threaten the environment, they are :

  • The depletion of natural resources like fuels, food, and water
  • The over-consumption of natural resources have led to improper waste disposal, and they have resulted in the massive depository of hazardous and solid waste
  • Mohith Agadi rightly said ‘The environment is no one’s property to destroy; it’s everyone’s responsibility to protect.’ So let us all pledge to “Save our Mother Earth” in every possible way.
  • There are multiple methods we can adopt which effectively contribute towards the cause.
  • We can plant more and more saplings in our surroundings as well as in any empty spaces.
  • We can set an example by planting a few trees in our backyard or any small area outside or near our house. You can even keep small tubs of plants in your balcony, doorway or windows to make your living space look aesthetic as well contribute to our Earth.
  • Another effective way is to habituate ourselves to use public transport over personal vehicles.
  • Walking and Bicycling to short distance places contributes to a better environment and good health. Its time we stopped wasting energy at home, or workspace- switch off your devices when not in use.
  • The use of fluorescent light bulbs over regular LED bulbs is another small initiative towards a better environment. These bulbs are on the expensive side, but they cut down the electricity bills and emit 70 per cent less heat in comparison to standard/ LED bulbs.
  • To create a worldwide awareness to protect our environment, the United Nations has decided on June 5 as World Environment Day.
  • To protect the environment and prevent any hazards to human beings, other living creatures, plants and property, the Indian government has imposed the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

Let us all join hands to spread environmental awareness in our everyday life as well as our society. Let us work together towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Short Speech on Environment 200 Words in English

The environment is the natural world that comprises of air, water, land, animals, plants, etc. as our surrounding. This Environment is a legacy given to us by the universe in a perfect condition with abundant natural resources.

However, man has directly impacted the whole ecosystem, leading to many environmental issues and problems. The increasing demand for industries, natural resources, and technologies in today’s world has impacted Mother Earth. This, in turn, has led to other series of problems and has altered the whole environment in an unimagined way.

The indiscriminate use of the environment is the root of the ecological crisis. Some of the significant problems are – deterioration of natural resources, depletion of underground water, erosion of soil and coral reefs, regular shortage of fresh drinking water, diminishing forests and wetlands, and salinization.

Some other issues such as rapid extinction of animal species, rising air and water pollution, the collapse of fisheries, loss of biodiversity, reduction of rivers, seas and underground resources, increase in atmospheric temperature, and thinning of the ozone layer have become a severe threat to the environment.

We need to adopt the principles of sustainable development in our lives. Each of us must protect the environment from environmental issues which can lead to disastrous health issues. By taking small initiatives like the usage of jute, cloth, paper bags, recycling the waste products, saving drinking water, planting saplings, reducing the use of automobiles, etc., we can reduce the deteriorating impacts.

To save and create awareness among brethren, the UN has declared June 5 as the World Environmental Day. It is our responsibility to protect our Mother Earth and environment and make the possibility of a healthy and happy life.

River murky, tainted after 40 days of Lake O discharges, but temporary relief's in sight

short speech on environment a

More than 40 days into high-volume releases of polluted Lake Okeechobee water to Gulf and Atlantic estuaries, coastal stakeholders are frustrated. Algae now streaks the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie watersheds, some of it potentially toxic.

On Friday, U.S. Army Corps Col. James Booth confirmed a long-promised two-week pause in the discharges. Here are some takeaways from the Corp's Friday call with members of the media:

Water managers concerned about high lake levels

El Niño weather has swollen the big lake instead of shrinking it during what would usually be the dry season.

Six weeks ago, with the lake at 16.4 feet, Corps began making “high-flow” releases to protect from flooding as hurricane season approaches, Booth says. Though levels have fallen, the lake remains some 8 inches higher than it was this time last year said Savannah Lacy, Corps water manager. Booth called the current lake level of 15.3 feet a “pretty successful” drop.

The environment has paid the price

“(Releasing lake water) has some negative environmental impacts," Booth said. "We certainly hate to do that, but we think it was the right choice,” especially as forecasters warn of a potentially severe hurricane season.

Though the Caloosahatchee needs some fresh water during the dry season, when it comes in the form of polluted lake water, algae blooms often follow.

Friday, green streaks and patches were visible at Fort Myers' Shores' Davis Boat Ramp and at the W.P. Franklin Lock in Olga. An aerial map of the region on the state's algae-tracking website didn't show any potential blooms, but a disclaimer noted cloud cover when the images were made obscured visibility. Though a sign at the Alva Boat Ramp warned of the potential for algae toxins in the water, the health department has issued no recent advisories.

On the east coast, U.S. Rep. Brian Mast held a press conference about the releases Thursday. "There is no bigger polluter of our community than the U.S. government," Mast said.

Short-term relief is on the way

The good news, Booth says, starting this past Friday, the Corps is pausing releases for two weeks, to give the environment a chance to rebound, rebalancing salinity and allowing pollutants like nitrogen to wash out to sea “and hopefully reduce some of the risks of harmful algal blooms.”

In the positive news side of the ledger, he said the Corps’ research center recently announced a grant with the South Florida Water Management District to study algae treatments: “What are some better ways of doing business when you start to see a harmful algal bloom” as well as new prediction tools.

Nonprofits like Calusa Waterkeeper on alert

Water advocates are keeping close watch. In its weekly water conditions report, the nonprofit Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation noted that flows have been damaging for more than 38 days.

"It's somewhat abnormal that we're seeing cyanobacteria and cyanoactivity this early in the game," said Calusa Waterkeeper Codty Pierce . "This is not normal cyanobacteria blooming season (but) we're experiencing higher than normal water temperatures ... As we move into the La Nina weather pattern, there isn't going to be that consistent, stable weather pattern that we're used to so it just adds to the complexity."

Pierce has no doubt that the lake water is responsible for the emerging algal hot spots. "That we have been experiencing such high discharges for this duration, we really have nowhere else to look for the point of inoculation other than coming through the (Caloosahatchee)."

He likens the current conditions to a growing fire. "The fire hasn't gotten out of control; it's not threatening anything else at this point but the fact that it's gaining momentum is extremely concerning."

That acute exposure can make people sick and kill dogs is not in question. Longer-term effects are less clear, but algal toxins have been linked to a number of serious illness, including liver cancer and neurodegenerative diseases like ALS and Parkinson's that may take years after exposure to develop.

Beyond the human health risks linked to some algae toxins – rashes, gastrointestinal distress, liver cancer and neurodegenerative disease – are the hazards to wildlife and the region’s tourism-based economy.

We must stop using poly and plastic bags to conserve the environment and instead choose eco-friendly alternatives.

By accepting and adopting a basic lifestyle, we may safeguard our environment for the next generation in various ways.

We may avoid using petroleum by taking public transportation daily, and saving energy will assist in saving a significant amount of coal and water.

Promoting digital technologies will result in fewer papers from natural resources such as wood.

We should save clean water by adjusting our regular habits, such as using less water when showering, cooking, and cleaning.

Governments must take concrete action to address the overexploitation of timber, water, and other natural resources.

A safe environment is critical to the continued existence of life on Earth.

The continued use of natural resources may result in the most significant imbalance in the atmosphere.

As inhabitants of this earth, we must work together to do their part to preserve the environment.

Short Speech on Conservation of Environment

Long speech on conservation of environment.

Speech on Conservation of Environment

We are all aware of how vital the environment is to us. In other words, we cannot disregard the need for environmental protection. People are accountable for hurting the environment to improve their livelihood. The atmosphere is confronting numerous destructions at the time of development. It becomes critical to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. As a result, you must be aware of environmental protection. Environmental contamination is caused by deforestation, population increase, and illiteracy.

Human Activity and Environment

Human activity has a negative impact on the environment in numerous ways. These include issues with pollution, population growth, waste management, climate change, global warming, and the greenhouse effect, among others. The main factor endangering our ecosystem is the presence of dangerous gases in the air.

Automobile usage that is out of control has escalated its impacts, which releases dangerous gases like carbon monoxide. Electronic equipment like refrigerators and air conditioners also contaminate the air by releasing dangerous chemicals. The many effects of these gases are contributing to both air pollution and global warming.

Humans are the only ones who are accountable for environmental devastation as a result of their activities. As a result, no one other than individuals can contribute to environmental protection. We must make numerous efforts, such as avoiding damaging products, using renewable resources, avoiding plastic bags, taking public transportation, etc. These activities will aid in the preservation of the environment.

Environmental contamination is one of the most serious issues confronting our modern world. However, there has been significant technological advancement in recent years, which is also detrimental and harmful to the environment. We can improve the planet by taking modest steps like planting trees. To save our environment, we must all work together to support it.

Need to save the environment

We are all aware of Earth's deteriorating quality of life, but we must start seeing the signs. The severe weather proves that people need to save and secure their assets now more than ever. As we can see, natural catastrophes and calamities are becoming more common, and people have died due to these calamities. The melting glacier is another alarming reason we must protect our environment.

Furthermore, increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is proven hazardous. We shall be in a good situation if we take immediate action. It is always said that by conserving our environment, we rescue humanity. The earth has endured for many years and will continue to do so; only society is at peril, so we must begin today.

Ways to save the Environment

Recycle | To safeguard the environment, we must begin with proper trash disposal. We need to start with recycling and proper garbage disposal to accomplish this. Along with reducing coal usage, renewable energy sources such as solar and hydropower must be increased. It allows us to live a more environmentally friendly and healthy lifestyle.

Water Conservation | On a city scale, we can see that they must plan based on available water supplies. This can aid in the conservation of water resources. When feasible, avoid using hot water and instead use cold water. Furthermore, the farmer employs organic fertiliser on their land instead of insecticides.

Air Pollution | Along with reducing air pollution at any cost. Everyone should avoid using personal vehicles. Reduce global warming by taking public transportation and not wasting electricity. When not in use, turn off the lights and fans. Make sure to utilise a recycled product to avoid creating extra waste.

Plastics and Plantation | Avoid using plastic bags in favour of reusable bags, and most importantly, plant as many trees as possible. When you plant a tree, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere drops, improving air quality. Planting trees is just as vital as preventing deforestation, so discourage it.

Initiatives to be Taken

Government must enact stringent regulations for businesses that release toxic waste in order to handle waste properly. The purpose of the awareness campaigns should be to motivate people to use public transportation as frequently as feasible. Additionally, everyone must plant trees. The less private vehicle use, the fewer dangerous gas emissions are produced, and the more fuel is conserved.

Every year, we lose numerous plants that have the potential to clean the air, and it may begin with us. So, I request each of us to plant a tree every year, which helps reduce environmental pollution. Teach your parents, friends, and others to be environmentally responsible and to try to save the environment for a brighter future.

Biden Administration Finalizes Rule Curbing Use of Short-Term Health Plans

The new regulation reverses a Trump-era policy that expanded access to health plans with fewer benefits than those sold on the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces.

By Noah Weiland

Reporting from Washington

The Biden administration announced on Thursday that it had finalized a new regulation that curbs the use of short-term health insurance plans that do not comply with the Affordable Care Act, reversing a move by the Trump administration to give consumers more access to cheaper but skimpier plans.

Under the new rule , the short-term plans will be able to last for only 90 days, with an option for a one-month extension.

In 2018, the Trump administration issued a rule allowing the plans to last for just under a year , with the option of renewing them for a total duration of up to three years. Previously, under an Obama-era policy, the plans were required to last for less than three months.

The plans, often with lower premiums than those found on the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces, do not have to cover people with pre-existing conditions. They are also free from the health law’s requirement that plans offer a minimum set of benefits, like prescription drug coverage and maternity care.

Democrats deride the so-called short-term, limited-duration plans as “junk” insurance, and the Obama-era policy was meant to ensure that healthy consumers could not use that option to sidestep the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces, leaving a sicker pool of customers enrolling in the comprehensive plans offered under the health law.

The White House cast the new rule as a way to fortify the marketplaces. In a briefing with reporters on Wednesday, Neera Tanden, President Biden’s domestic policy adviser, said that 45 million Americans were now covered through the marketplaces or the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. More than 20 million people signed up for plans on the marketplaces during the most recent open enrollment period.

“President Biden is not taking his foot off the gas,” Ms. Tanden said.

Supporters of the short-term plans have said that the less expensive options are well suited for people who are unable to afford a marketplace plan. Brian Blase, who worked on the 2018 rule as a White House official under President Donald J. Trump, said the plans were also ideal for contract and self-employed workers, including those with incomes too high to qualify for more generous subsidies on the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces.

Mr. Blase said the new rule could cause insurers offering marketplace plans to face less competition. Sick consumers buying a three-month plan could also lose coverage without a better immediate option, he added.

“Nobody benefits,” he said.

But critics of the short-term plans have warned that insurers can mislead consumers who enroll in them, including people who might be eligible for free coverage through the marketplaces. The new regulation requires insurers to provide a disclaimer explaining what the short-term plans cover.

In its announcement on Thursday, the White House cited a man in Montana who accumulated over $40,000 in health costs because his cancer was considered a pre-existing condition, and a woman in Pennsylvania who underwent an amputation and received roughly $20,000 in bills that her plan would not cover.

Sabrina Corlette, a research professor at Georgetown University’s Center on Health Insurance Reforms, said the plans often showed up prominently when consumers searched online for health insurance, with deceptive advertising.

“Often the marketing materials say they cover hospitalizations and prescription drugs,” she said. “To the average consumer it looks like a real health insurance plan.”

Georgetown researchers last year conducted a so-called secret shopper study , calling 20 sales representatives to ask about health plans for people who had lost Medicaid coverage and were eligible for free marketplace plans. They found that none of the representatives mentioned the availability of the free plans. The brokers often used aggressive and misleading tactics to sell short-term plans without providing written plan information, the researchers found.

Ms. Corlette said that brokers typically received higher commissions for selling short-term plans than they did for more comprehensive options.

As a consumer, she said, “you have to be so savvy and careful.”

After the Trump administration issued its rule in 2018, some states moved on their own to limit the sale of short-term plans. Democratic lawmakers urged the Biden administration to reverse the regulation, and the administration issued a proposed rule to do so last summer.
