Robyn Rihanna Fenty—better known by fans around the world as Rihanna—may have started off her career as a singer, but in just under two decades, the superstar has added CEO, businesswoman, and billionaire to her list of accolades.

Key Takeaways

  • Rihanna’s estimated net worth is $1.4 billion in 2023.
  • She became America’s youngest self-made female billionaire in 2022.
  • Much of Rihanna’s wealth has been attributed to her successful makeup company, Fenty Beauty, which she co-owns with French luxury retailer LVMH.

Rihanna released her debut album Music of the Sun in 2005 at the age of 17, and has since put out eight albums in total, with 14 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She is one of the best-selling digital artists of all time and has 60 million albums and 215 million digital tracks sold, according to her record label, Roc Nation.

Rihanna’s estimated net worth as of February 2023 is $1.4 billion, mainly due to the success of her cosmetics company, Fenty Beauty. In 2022, Rihanna ranked No. 21 on Forbes’ list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women and became one of the youngest self-made female billionaires.

Rihanna and Fenty Beauty

In recent years, the Barbados-born singer generated most of her wealth outside of the studio. In 2017, Rihanna launched her cosmetics company Fenty Beauty, which she co-owns with French luxury conglomerate LVMH .

In 2020, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty brought in more than $550 million in revenue , according to Forbes. The most recent earnings report from LVMH stated that Fenty Beauty doubled its revenue in 2022, thanks to a wider distribution network and successful launches.

Rihanna created Fenty Beauty to be inclusive of all skin tones, and the products are offered in a wide range of shades. Many of Fenty Beauty’s products have developed a cult following and have gone viral on TikTok and other social media platforms—and the superstar’s first Fenty fragrance sold out within hours of launching in August 2021.

Aside from Fenty Beauty, Rihanna’s many brand partnerships and business ventures have also contributed to her wealth. Rihanna owns 30% of Savage x Fenty, a lingerie line, with Bloomberg reporting that the company could be valued at more than $3 billion. The billionaire is also a part owner in the Jay-Z led music-streaming service, Tidal .

In 2014, Rihanna began a four-year partnership with athletic apparel company Puma and served as the brand’s global ambassador and creative director. She also launched her own line of footwear and apparel with them, Fenty x Puma.

Rihanna has had other high-profile brand partnerships, including a capsule collection with luxury footwear brand Manolo Blahnik, and was Dior’s first Black ambassador.

The star also has several movie credits to her name, such as Ocean’s Eight , Guava Island , and most recently released a song for Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever . She also performed at the Halftime Show at Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12, 2023, in Glendale, Ariz.

Fenty’s Fortune: Rihanna Is Now Officially A Billionaire

How the singer became the richest female musician on the planet. hint: it wasn’t from performing., by madeline berg.

W hen Robyn Fenty, known to the world as Rihanna, launched Fenty Beauty in 2017, she sought to create a cosmetics company that made “women everywhere (feel) included .” A perhaps unintended consequence: The beauty line has helped her enter one of the world’s most exclusive ranks: Billionaire.

Rihanna is now worth $1.7 billion, Forbes estimates—making her the wealthiest female musician in the world and second only to Oprah Winfrey as the richest female entertainer. But it’s not her music that’s made her so wealthy. The bulk of her fortune (an estimated $1.4 billion) comes from the value of Fenty Beauty, of which Forbes can now confirm she owns 50%. Much of the rest lies in her stake in her lingerie company, Savage x Fenty, worth an estimated $270 million, and her earnings from her career as a chart-topping musician and actress.

While Barbados-born Rihanna isn’t the only celebrity to capitalize on her social media presence—she has 101 million followers on Instagram and 102.5 million on Twitter—to build a beauty brand, she is the most successful beauty entrepreneur to do so. Fenty Beauty, which is a 50-50 joint venture with French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH (run by Bernard Arnault, the world’s second-richest person), launched in 2017 with the goal of inclusivity. Its products come in a diverse range of colors—foundation is offered in 50 shades, including harder-to-find darker shades for women of color—and are modeled in its advertising by an equally diverse group of people.

Available online and at Sephora stores, which are also owned by LVMH, the products were an instant success. By 2018, its first full calendar year, the line was bringing in more than $550 million in annual revenues, according to LVMH, beating out other celebrity-founded brands like Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics, Kim Kardashian West’s KKW Beauty and Jessica Alba’s Honest Co.

“A lot of women felt there were no lines out there that catered to their skin tone. It was light, medium, medium dark, dark,” says Shannon Coyne, cofounder of consumer products consultancy Bluestock Advisors. “We all know that’s not reality. She was one of the first brands that came out and said, ‘I want to speak to all of those different people.’”

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna are seen filming a music video in the Bronx on July 11, 2021.

While cosmetics sales slowed during the pandemic, beauty companies are worth as much as ever. Stocks of larger beauty conglomerates like Estée Lauder and L'Oréal have bounced back, reaching all-time highs and trading at impressive 7.5 (or more) times annual revenues. Meanwhile, independent brands like Beautycounter and Charlotte Tilbury inked deals with investment firms earlier this year at billion-dollar valuations.

That is good news for Rihanna. Thanks to the impressive multiples at which beauty companies are trading, Fenty Beauty is worth a conservative $2.8 billion, Forbes estimates. And all signs point to the company continuing to grow. In its annual report for 2020, LVMH said Fenty Skin, which launched last year, was off to a “very promising start” and “generated unprecedented buzz,” and that Fenty Beauty "maintained its appeal as a premier makeup brand."

Fenty Beauty isn’t Rihanna’s only billion-dollar brand. In February her lingerie line Savage x Fenty raised $115 million in funding at a $1 billion valuation. The company, which launched in 2018 as a joint venture with TechStyle Fashion Group, counts blue-chip investors like Jay-Z’s Marcy Venture Partners and private equity firm L. Catterton (in which Bernard Arnault is an investor) as shareholders. Rihanna maintains a 30% ownership stake, Forbes estimates. The latest round of funding will reportedly be used for customer acquisition and retail expansion.

Not that everything Rihanna touches turns to gold.  In February, LVMH and Rihanna confirmed in a statement to Forbes that they had shut down their other venture, a high-end fashion and accessories house also called Fenty. Launched in 2019, Fenty sought to extend Rihanna’s brand of inclusivity and offer styles in a range of sizes. But like many luxury fashion brands, the high-priced line suffered during the pandemic, releasing its last collection in November 2020.

The only complaint some fans may have about her career as a fashion and beauty mogul? It keeps her busy. The singer, who used to release an album almost every year, hasn’t released a new album since 2016’s Anti.

From a financial perspective, that may be just fine: “She is creating a brand outside of herself. It’s not just about Rihanna,” says consultant Coyne. “Even if you don't like her music, she’s created a real style in the fashion and beauty space.”

Billionaire Rihanna named world’s richest female musician

Umbrella singer’s estimated $1.7bn fortune owed largely to success of Fenty Beauty

Rihanna, the singer of hits such as Umbrella and We Found Love, is officially a billionaire and the world’s richest female musician.

However, most of her fortune, estimated on Wednesday by Forbes magazine to be $1.7bn (£1.2bn), does not come from chart-topping singles, but from the success of her cosmetics empire.

Rihanna – real name Robyn Fenty – launched Fenty Beauty in 2017 with a dream to create a cosmetics company that made “women everywhere [feel] included”.

The singer, who has described makeup as her “weapon of choice for self-expression” while growing up, said she was driven to create her own range because established brands did not provide a full choice of products for all varieties of skin types and tones. The brand boasted foundation in 40 different shades when it first launched to “make skin look like skin” and has since expanded to 50.

Rihanna, 33, launched the beauty brand, of which she owns 50%, with the French luxury conglomerate LVMH in 2017. In its first year, Fenty Beauty achieved sales of $550m, far more than other celebrity-endorsed makeup ranges. Forbes magazine estimates that the company is now worth “a conservative $2.8bn”.

Her stake in in the company, combined with a 30% stake in the lingerie line Savage X Fenty and money generated during her 16-year career as a recording artist, take Rihanna’s fortune to $1.7bn, according to Forbes. That makes her the second wealthiest female entertainer on the planet after Oprah Winfrey, who is sitting on a fortune estimated at $2.7bn.

Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s chairman and chief executive, and the world’s third-richest person with an estimated $179bn fortune, has said: “Everyone knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real CEO and a terrific leader.”

Commenting on Rihanna’s success, Shannon Coyne, the co-founder of the consumer products consultancy Bluestock Advisors, said: “A lot of women felt there were no lines out there that catered to their skin tone. It was light, medium, medium dark, dark. We all know that’s not reality. [Fenty Beauty] was one of the first brands that came out and said: ‘I want to speak to all of those different people.’”

Rihanna is not the first celebrity to make a fortune from cosmetics. Kylie Jenner, the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner American reality-TV family, became the world’s youngest billionaire in 2019 at the age of 21 thanks to the success of Kylie Cosmetics , the makeup company she runs largely from her iPhone. Her sister, Kim Kardashian West, also has a cosmetics business, KKW Beauty, while the actor Jessica Alba runs the beauty and wellness brand Honest Co.

Rihanna is officially a billionaire. Here's how her game-changing beauty and fashion lines helped her land among the world's wealthiest entrepreneurs.

  • Rihanna has officially become a billionaire, Forbes reported this week.
  • The singer, actress, and entrepreneur derives most of her wealth from her two businesses.
  • Lingerie brand Savage X Fenty is valued at $1 billion, while Fenty Beauty is worth $2.8 billion.

Insider Today

Robyn Rihanna Fenty has officially reached billionaire status .

The Barbados-born singer, actress, and entrepreneur is now worth $1.7 billion, Forbes reported this week, making her the richest female musician in the world and the wealthiest female entertainer besides Oprah Winfrey.

Though she's been making hit records since she was 17, most of Rihanna's fortune stems from her business ventures — namely, her makeup and skincare brand, Fenty Beauty, and her lingerie line, Savage X Fenty.

Here's how Rihanna went from one of the world's biggest pop stars to a fashion and beauty mogul in her own right — and, now, a billionaire.

Rihanna grew up around music, but her first big break came in 2003 when she met record producer Evan Rogers while he was on vacation in Barbados. Over the subsequent year, Rogers helped her record a few demos, which were sent off to record labels.

She was invited to audition for Def Jam, where she impressed rapper Jay Z — then the label's president — and record executive L.A. Reid. She was signed to the label in 2005 and her first single, "Pon de Replay," became a worldwide hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

She released her first album, "Music of the Sun," in 2005. Since then, she's released seven more albums — most recently, "Anti," which came out in 2016.

She's now sold over 60 million albums and won eight Grammy Awards, and has earned millions from her music: In 2016, following the release of "Anti," she took home $2.5 million from music sales and $7.6 million from streaming, according to Billboard.

Rihanna has also grossed millions from touring. Her 2013 Diamonds World Tour earned her more than $140 million, and ahead of her 2016 Anti World Tour, she signed a $25 million sponsorship deal with Samsung.

Rihanna's first foray into business came in 2011 when she released her first fragrance, Reb'l Fleur — the scent reportedly garnered $80 million in sales in its first year. She quickly followed up with another scent, Rebelle, and has subsequently released nearly a dozen fragrances in total with another on the way via her beauty brand, Fenty.

Over the years, she's inked deals with fashion companies like Puma — where she's served as creative director — River Island, Armani, Dior, CoverGirl, and MAC.

In 2015, Rihanna took a stake in music streaming service Tidal. Six years later, Jack Dorsey's Square acquired the company for $297 million, reportedly netting Rihanna and the other artists involved nearly $9 million apiece, according to Variety.

But Rihanna's ascendance to mogul status kicked into high gear in 2017, when she launched Fenty Beauty. The brand's goal from the get-go has been to promote inclusivity in the beauty industry by offering products made for a broad array of skin tones.

rihanna biography and net worth

Fenty Beauty's immediate popularity sparked a trend in the beauty industry: After the brand introduced foundations and concealers in 40 different shades, other companies followed suit, a major shift for an industry that has often underserved women of color.

Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in partnership with French luxury-goods giant LVMH, which owns half the company. Rihanna previously owned 15% of Fenty Beauty, but has since upped her stake to 50%, according to Forbes.

Just a year after launch, Fenty Beauty was bringing in over $550 million in annual revenue. These days, the line is worth at least $2.8 billion, Forbes estimates.

Shortly after launching her beauty empire, Rihanna introduced another venture: Savage X Fenty, a size- and skin-tone-inclusive lingerie line. The brand carries lingerie in sizes up to 3X and includes nude color options in a wide range of shades.

The company's annual fashion show, which is streamed on Amazon Prime Video, consistently includes a diverse cast of models with varying body types and gender expressions, a stark contrast to the Victoria's Secret fashion shows of yore.

Savage X Fenty's investors include Jay Z's Marcy Venture Partners and L. Catterton, a private equity firm that counts LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault as an investor. Last February, the company raised $115 million in fresh funding at a $1 billion valuation.

rihanna biography and net worth

The company may now be considering expanding in Europe and adding new lines like athleticwear, The New York Times reported last December.

Rihanna's entrepreneurial ventures have had some hiccups along the way. In February 2020, Savage X Fenty was the subject of a complaint filed with the Federal Trade Commission for promoting discounts that are only available to customers who pay a $50 monthly membership fee. A spokesperson for the brand said at the time that the complaint was "based on misconceptions of our business."

rihanna biography and net worth

In 2019, LVMH announced that Rihanna would launch her own luxury fashion line known simply as "Fenty," making her the first woman to create her own brand at the renowned luxury house. But earlier this year, the brand decided to press pause on the ready-to-wear line "pending better conditions."

rihanna biography and net worth

The decision came after the pandemic forced Rihanna to stay in Los Angeles rather than fly to Europe to oversee the collection, and amid a wider slow-down in the luxury fashion industry during the pandemic. The line had also struggled to find its footing from the start, with The New York Times describing it as too expensive and "more derivative than groundbreaking."

Still, those rare missteps seem not to have dented Rihanna's fortune. At just 33, she's amassed a beauty and fashion empire and built a net worth of $1.7 billion.

International popstar Rihanna released her first album in 2005 and is known for such No. 1 hits as "Umbrella," "SOS," "Diamonds," and "Work."

Who Is Rihanna?

Popstar Rihanna signed with Def Jam records at age 16 and in 2005 released her first album Music of the Sun , which sold more than two million copies worldwide. She went on to release more albums and an array of hit songs, including "Unfaithful," "Umbrella," "Disturbia," "Take a Bow," "Diamonds" and "We Found Love." A global pop star with an unrelentingly edgy image, Rihanna has also won multiple industry accolades, including Grammys and MTV awards.

Singer Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in St. Michael Parish on the Caribbean island of Barbados. She is the eldest of three children born to Monica Fenty, an accountant, and Ronald Fenty, a warehouse supervisor. Rihanna's childhood was marred by her father's struggles with addictions to alcohol and crack cocaine and her parents' marital problems — they divorced when she was 14 years old.

Rihanna also struggled with crippling headaches for several years during her childhood, a condition she attempted to hide from her friends and classmates so that they would not think she was abnormal. "I never expressed how I felt," she remembered. "I always kept it in. I would go to school ... you would never know there was something wrong with me."

Move to the United States

As a teenager, Rihanna turned to singing as a release from her troubles at home. She formed a girl group with two classmates; when they were 15 years old, they scored an audition with music producer Evan Rodgers, who was visiting the island with his Barbadian wife. Rogers was awed by the precociously beautiful and talented Rihanna, to the unfortunate detriment of her two friends. "The minute Rihanna walked into the room, it was like the other two girls didn't exist," he admitted.

Less than a year later, when Rihanna was only 16 years old, she left Barbados to move in with Rogers and his wife in Connecticut and work on recording a demo album. "When I left Barbados, I didn't look back," Rihanna recalled. "I wanted to do what I had to do, even if it meant moving to America."

"Pon de Replay," "Unfaithful" and "SOS"

Only eight months later, in August 2005, she released her first single, "Pon de Replay," a reggae-influenced club track that reached No. 2 on the Billboard singles chart and announced Rihanna as the next up-and-coming pop star. Her first album, Music of the Sun , released later that month, reached No. 10 on the Billboard albums chart and also featured the single "If It's Lovin' That You Want." Rihanna released her second album, A Girl Like Me , the next year, spawning two major hits in "Unfaithful" and "SOS," Rihanna's first No. 1 single.

"Umbrella"

In 2007, Rihanna effected a transformation from cute teen pop princess to superstar and sex symbol with her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad , fueled by its smash hit lead single "Umbrella," featuring Jay-Z. "It shows such growth for her as an artist," Jay-Z said about the track. "If you listen to the lyrics to that song, you know the depth and how far she's come."

"Don't Stop the Music," "Disturbia" and "Hate That I Love You"

"Umbrella" topped the Billboard singles chart and earned Rihanna her first Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The album reached No. 2 on the charts and also featured the singles "Shut Up and Drive" and "Don't Stop the Music," the latter featuring a sample of Michael Jackson 's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'." Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded , released the following year, scored further hits in "Disturbia," "Take a Bow" and "Hate That I Love You."

"Only Girl (In the World)" and "S&M"

Continuing her onslaught of hit albums, Rihanna released Rated R in 2009 with the singles "Hard" and "Rude Boy." Her 2010 album, Loud , was once again a commercial success behind the songs "What's My Name," "Only Girl (In the World)" and "S&M."

Besides her own laundry list of hit songs, Rihanna collaborated on a host of popular songs by other artists from around this time, including Jay-Z's "Run this Town," Eminem 's "Love the Way You Lie," Maroon 5's "If I Never See Your Face Again" and Kanye West 's "All of the Lights."

"We Found Love"

In 2011, Rihanna released her sixth studio album: Talk That Talk . The album included "We Found Love," a track with DJ Calvin Harris that won the 2013 Grammy Award for best short-form music video.

"Diamonds" and "Stay"

On her Grammy-winning 2012 album Unapologetic , Rihanna turned out such hits as the No. 1 Sia Furler tune "Diamonds" and "Stay," featuring Mikky Ekko. (Interestingly, Unapologetic was the first Rihanna album to hit No. 1 on the pop charts.) She also worked with Coldplay on the track "Princess of China" and, the following year, reached No. 1 again with another Eminem collaboration, "The Monster."

Known for her sexually provocative imagery and wild style, Rihanna made headlines for the sheer dress she wore to the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards ceremony in June 2014. She was there to receive the CFDA's Fashion Icon Award and told the crowd that "Fashion has always been my defense mechanism," according to an Associated Press report. Rihanna acknowledged that there were some rules to fashion, but explained that "rules are meant to be broken." Around this time, the singer made a bold professional move as well: She switched from the Def Jam label to Jay-Z's Roc Nation.

"FourFiveSeconds"

In August 2015, NBC announced that Rihanna would be the key adviser on The Voice 's ninth season. That same year she contributed vocals to the single "FourFiveSeconds," a collaboration with West and famed Beatle Paul McCartney , as well as releasing "B**** Better Have My Money," a tune allegedly inspired by court wranglings with her former manager that also featured a highly controversial, violent music video. In 2015 Rihanna also became the first artist in history to have 100 million singles digitally downloaded and streamed.

"Work"

In late January 2016, Rihanna released the album Anti , allowing Jay-Z's online streaming site Tidal to exclusively feature the collection of tracks for a week. The gambit paid off for the struggling service, with one million trial subscribers joining Tidal in less than a day to partake in a download promotion for Anti . The album's lead single, "Work," featuring rapper Drake , earned two Grammy nominations. In 2017, Rihanna scored another No. 1 hit as a featured artist on DJ Khaled 's "Wild Thoughts."

Branching out to screen work, Rihanna co-starred in the sci-fi flick Battleship (2012) and later voiced the lead character in the animated blockbuster Home (2015).

In 2017, Rihanna made recurring appearances in season 5 of Bates Motel , and earned a prominent role in the science fiction flick Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets . That year, fans also got their first glimpse of the pop superstar alongside Sandra Bullock , Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway in trailers for Ocean's 8 , a female-led spinoff of the popular Ocean's Trilogy which hit theaters in June 2018.

The following spring, Rihanna co-starred with Donald Glover , aka Childish Gambino, in the Amazon musical Guava Island .

Philanthropy and Personal Life

In 2012, Rihanna launched the nonprofit Clara Lionel Foundation, named after her grandmother, which supports and funds education and early response programs around the world. For her philanthropic efforts, she was honored with the President's Award at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards.

Rihanna has also made headlines in her personal life, although often for circumstances beyond her control. She first made gossip column headlines in 2006 when rumors swirled that she was having an affair with her mentor, Jay-Z, though she and Jay-Z dismissed such allegations as ridiculous. Later, she was romantically linked to billionaire Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel, before their split was reported in early 2020.

In late 2020, Rihanna began dating rapper A$AP Rocky . In January 2022, it was revealed that the couple is expecting their first child.

Chris Brown

In 2009, Rihanna was the center of a media firestorm after a domestic violence incident in which her then-boyfriend Chris Brown assaulted her before an awards show. The incident sparked a huge public outpouring of support for Rihanna, and she became a spokesperson against domestic violence. "This happened to me," she said in an interview with Diane Sawyer. "It can happen to anyone."

"I put my guard up so hard," she said in a separate interview with Rolling Stone . "I didn't want people to see me cry. I didn't want people to feel bad for me. It was a very vulnerable time in my life, and I refused to let that be the image. I wanted them to see me as, 'I'm fine, I'm tough.' I put that up until it felt real."

In 2012, Rihanna appeared to be reconnecting with Brown. The pair worked together on the song "Birthday Cake" released that year. Rihanna also spoke very candidly with Oprah Winfrey about her relationship with Brown that August. She told Winfrey that Brown may have been the love of her life and she has developed "a very close friendship" with him. The two officially dated again for a time, with Rihanna maintaining in a Rolling Stone interview that Brown had changed and that any form of abuse would be unacceptable.

Rihanna Is Officially a Billionaire

By Claire Shaffer

Rihanna has officially entered the billionaire’s club,  Forbes reported on Wednesday.

The publication estimates that the pop star and business mogul — founder of fashion house Fenty as well as makeup line Fenty Beauty — is now worth $1.7 billion, making her the wealthiest female musician in the world and the second-wealthiest female entertainer in the world after Oprah Winfrey. An estimated $1.4 billion of that fortune comes exclusively from Fenty Beauty, of which Rihanna owns a 50 percent share. Much of the rest of her net worth — around $270 million — comes from sales stemming from her music and acting career along with her stake in her lingerie line, Savage x Fenty.

Forbes attributes Fenty Beauty’s success not only to its celebrity founder but also its uniquely diverse product line, with a foundation available in 50 different skin tones for women of color. A 50-50 joint venture with French luxury conglomerate LVMH, which also owns makeup retailer Sephora, Fenty Beauty was reportedly racking in $550 million during its first calendar year in 2018, beating out other celebrity lines like Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics and Kim Kardashian West’s KKW Beauty. Cosmetics sales have bounced back from their pandemic lows and are only expected to increase in the coming year.

Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty line has also proven to be a success, raising $115 million in funding this past February at a $1 billion valuation. The company, also founded in 2018, is a joint venture with TechStyle Fashion Group; Rihanna maintains a 30 percent ownership stake. The singer’s fashion and accessory house Fenty proved to be much less profitable: Launched in 2019, Fenty was confirmed to have been shut down by Rihanna and LVMH in February due to low sales during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, there’s still no word on when Rihanna will be releasing new music, as her last album,  Anti , came out in 2016, prior to her major brand expansions. “She is creating a brand outside of herself,” consumer goods consultant Shannon Coyne told  Forbes . “It’s not just about Rihanna.”

rihanna biography and net worth

Forbes has rolled out its annual billionaires list with Rihanna making her debut and fellow artists Jay-Z and Kanye West also making apearances. Rihanna's net worth has swelled to an estimated 1.7 billion thanks, in large part, to ventures outside of music including her Fenty Beauty cosmetics line and the Savage X Fenty lingerie business. This places her at 1,729 on the Forbes list.

Narrowly behind her is Jay-Z, whose worth is estimated at $1.4 billion (2,076) on the Forbes list. His bank balance was boosted in 2021 by the sale of TIDAL to Jack Dorsey's Square , as well as LVMH buying Armand de Brignac champagne.

Sitting above both, however, is Kanye West with an estimated $2 billion worth. Ye's earnings are linked to his Yeezy partnership with Adidas and a lucrative partnership with Gap . He has leaped 200 positions on his 2021 ranking and sits at no. 1,513 on this year's list.

In total there are 87 less billionaires on the 2022 list than there were in 2021, with the overall wealth of the collective billionaires down $400 billion year on year. Tesla founder Elon Musk sits atop the pile with an estimated $219 billion net worth. Behind him, a mere $50 billion short, is Amazon's Jeff Bezos ($171 billion).

Rihanna Is Officially a Billionaire and the Wealthiest Female Musician in the World

preview for Rihanna's Nighttime Skincare Routine | Go To Bed With Me

Rihanna, Forbes writes, can attribute much of her net worth—$1.4 billion of it, to be exact—to Fenty Beauty. (Rihanna owns 50 percent of the beauty company; Fenty Beauty is a 50-50 joint venture with LVMH.) Her lingerie line, Savage x Fenty, is estimated to be worth $270 million. The rest of Rihanna’s net worth beyond her businesses comes from her acting and music career.

Rihanna spoke to Sarah Paulson for Interview magazine in June 2019 about how she didn’t initially envision herself building an empire and becoming an entrepreneur; it just happened as she continued her music career and explored other creative routes.

“I had one dream and that was for my music to be heard all over the world,” Rihanna said. “I didn’t even think about the fame part, and then that came, and I was like, ‘Oh, shoot. Do I really want to do this?’ But the thing that keeps me alive and passionate is being creative. With every business outlet, I’m making something from a vision to a reality, and that’s the thing I really enjoy. Music had led me to these other outlets, and to things that I genuinely love. My mom pretty much worked in the beauty and perfume industry for a long time—she did makeup for people and was a makeup artist—so I always loved that.”

Who Is Rihanna - Singer & Billionaire: Biography, Personal Life, Net Worth

Sally Polly

Who Is Rihanna: Biography

Rihanna, byname of Robyn Rihanna Fenty, (born February 20, 1988, St. Michael parish, Barbados), Barbadian pop and rhythm-and-blues (R&B) singer who became a worldwide star in the early 21st century, known for her distinctive and versatile voice and for her fashionable appearance. She was also known for her beauty and fashion lines.

With sales of over 250 million records worldwide, Rihanna is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She has earned 14 number-ones and 31 top-ten singles in the US and 30 top-ten entries in the UK. Her accolades include nine Grammy Awards , 13 American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, and six Guinness World Records. Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2012 and 2018. Forbes ranked her among the top ten highest-paid celebrities in 2012 and 2014; as of 2021, she is the wealthiest female musician, with an estimated net worth of $1.7 billion.

Aside from music, Rihanna is known for her involvement in humanitarian causes, entrepreneurial ventures, and the fashion industry. She is the founder of the nonprofit organisation Clara Lionel Foundation, cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty, and fashion house Fenty under LVMH. Rihanna has also ventured into acting, appearing in major roles in Battleship (2012), Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017), and Ocean's 8 (2018). She was appointed as an ambassador of education, tourism, and investment by the Government of Barbados in 2018.

Rihanna: Early Life

Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados. She is the daughter of accountant Monica (née Braithwaite) and warehouse supervisor Ronald Fenty. Her mother is an Afro-Guyanese, while her father is a Barbadian of African and Irish descent. Rihanna has two brothers, Rorrey and Rajad Fenty, and two half-sisters and a half-brother from her father's side, each born to different mothers from his previous relationships. She grew up in a three-bedroom bungalow in Bridgetown and sold clothes with her father in a stall on the street. Her childhood was deeply affected by her father's alcoholism and crack cocaine addiction, which contributed to her parents' strained marriage. Rihanna's father used to physically abuse her mother, and Rihanna would try to get in between them to break up fights.

As a child, Rihanna had many CT scans for the excruciating headaches she suffered, recalling, "The doctors even thought it was a tumor, because it was that intense." By the time she was 14, her parents had divorced, and her health began to improve. She grew up listening to reggae music. She attended Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary School and Combermere School, where she studied alongside future international cricketers Chris Jordan and Carlos Brathwaite. Rihanna was an army cadet in a sub-military programme, where the later Barbadian singer-songwriter Shontelle was her drill sergeant. Although she initially wanted to graduate from high school, she chose to pursue a musical career instead.

Rihanna: Career

Come May 2005, Def Jam rolled out "Pon de Replay," Rihanna's first single and the lively introduction to the full-length Music of the Sun. Produced almost entirely by Rogers and Sturken, the song synthesized Caribbean rhythms with pop-R&B songwriting. "Pon de Replay" caught fire almost immediately and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, denied the top spot by Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together." Music of the Sun, released that August, spawned a Top 40 placement with "If It's Lovin' That You Want" and ranged stylistically from a remake of Dawn Penn's rocksteady-styled crossover hit "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)" (featuring dancehall star Vybz Kartel) to the Beyoncé-like "Let Me" (co-produced by emergent duo Stargate). Music of the Sun was only eight months old when Rihanna followed up in April 2006 with A Girl Like Me. It showed that the singer wasn't a fluke success and could also stretch out, laced with three dissimilar hits. "SOS," high-gloss dance-pop with a sample of Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love," topped the Hot 100. "Unfaithful," her first big ballad, and "Break It Off," an electro-dancehall hybrid (with Sean Paul), became her third and fourth Top Ten pop singles.

Superstar status was attained with Good Girl Gone Bad, an album that built on Rihanna's commercial momentum and developed into a blockbuster. Released in May 2007 and "reloaded" with additional material the following June, its lengthy promotional campaign yielded several chart-topping singles and boasted collaborations with A-listers such as Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake. Lead single "Umbrella," co-written by the-Dream and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, sounded like nothing else on the airwaves and shot to number one, as did "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia," while "Hate That I Love You" and "Don't Stop the Music" added to the tally of Top Ten entries. "Umbrella" gave Rihanna her first Grammy win for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The album was on its way to triple platinum status by October 2009, when Rihanna set the dark and provocative tone for fourth album Rated R with "Russian Roulette," another Ne-Yo collaboration and Top Ten single. Abused lover, dominatrix, and murderer were among the perspectives Rihanna offered throughout the album, released that November.

Annual studio albums, each one with a November release date and a broad range of light and dark material covering EDM, contemporary R&B, adult contemporary, dancehall, and straight-up pop, continued well into the following decade. In 2010, just after Eminem featured her on the diamond platinum "Love the Way You Lie," there was Loud. Led by the Stargate-produced "Only Girl (In the World)," eventually a Grammy winner for Best Dance Recording, it was sustained with additional Hot 100 toppers "What's My Name?" (featuring Drake) and "S&M." Talk That Talk was heralded in 2011 with Rihanna's most triumphant single, "We Found Love," on which she collaborated with Calvin Harris. After she nabbed yet another Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy, this time for her role on Kanye West's "All of the Lights," the streak concluded, and culminated, with the 2012 set Unapologetic. Her first LP to top the Billboard 200 (after all of the previous six had gone Top Ten), it also became her first to win a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album. "Diamonds," the anthemic and inspirational standout among some of Rihanna's brashest moments, became her tenth number one pop hit and 18th to peak within the Top Ten.

Within a span of three years, Rihanna had released her fourth through seventh album s. An equal amount of time passed prior to the release of her eighth full-length. In 2013, she lengthened her list of chart accolades as a featured artist with an assist on Eminem's "The Monster," which became her 25th Top Ten hit as a lead or featured artist, went to number one, and led to her fourth Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy. No longer with Def Jam -- a deal had been signed with Roc Nation via Jay-Z, who left Def Jam several years earlier -- Rihanna released non-album singles throughout 2015, beginning with the unembellished "FourFiveSeconds," an unlikely matchup with Paul McCartney and Kanye West that reached number four. "American Oxygen" didn't flourish as much from a commercial standpoint but upon release became one of her most remarkable recordings, a dignified ballad with a personal, pro-immigration theme.

Album eight, the strikingly composed Anti, became Rihanna's second consecutive number one album following its January 2016 arrival. She partnered again with Drake, resulting in another number one hit with "Work." "Needed Me," a buzzing slow jam cooked up with a production team including DJ Mustard and Kuk Harrell, and "Love on the Brain," a throwback soul belter involving Harrell and Fred Ball, entered the Top Ten as well. Those who missed the comparative lack of high-spirited exuberance in Anti were placated across 2016 and 2017 with Rihanna's guest appearances on Calvin Harris' "This Is What You Came For" and N.E.R.D.'s "Lemon." Meanwhile, Drake, Future, DJ Khaled, and Kendrick Lamar likewise profited from Rihanna's featured spots. Lamar's "LOYALTY." made Rihanna a five-time winner of the Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, setting a record for women artists in that category.

Rihanna: Personal life

Rihanna owns a $14 million penthouse in Manhattan, New York. She also purchased a house in West London for £7 million in June 2018, in order to be closer to her work with her FENTY fashion label. In December 2018, Rihanna put her Hollywood Hills mansion up for sale after a break-in six months before. The mansion was reported to have been selling for $10.4m.

According to the New York Post, Rihanna filed a lawsuit against Peter Gounis and the firm Berdon LLP for $35 million in 2012, on account of alleged fraud, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty, but settled out of court for more than $10 million in 2014. Forbes began reporting on Rihanna's earnings in 2012.

In 2007, Rihanna began dating fellow singer Chris Brown. Their relationship ended in February 2009, after which Rihanna dated Drake on-and-off from 2009 to 2016. In a January 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, Rihanna confirmed that she had rekindled her relationship with Chris Brown, though he remained under probation for the 2009 domestic violence incident. The confirmation followed persistent media speculation throughout 2012, regarding the pair's reunion. In a May 2013 interview, Brown stated that he and Rihanna had broken up again. Rihanna began a relationship with Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel in 2017. The couple reportedly split in January 2020.

She has also earned over 30 top-ten songs in the UK and Australia, making her the only artist in the 21st century to achieve this feat so far.

Rihanna: Net Worth

Rihanna reportedly owns 50% of the partnership and the brand is worth $2-3 billion. She also owns 30% of a lingerie brand called Savage X Fenty which is currently worth around $1 billion.

rihanna biography and net worth

Rihanna was born on the 20th of February, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados, but she grew up in Bridgetown. She was born to a Guyanese mother and a Barbadian father. She grew up listening to Caribbean music like reggae and American R&B and hip-hop. From her father’s side, Rihanna has two brothers, Rorrey and Rajad Fenty, as well as two half-sisters and a half-brother who were all conceived by various mothers during her mother’s past relationships. She was raised in a Bridgetown bungalow with 3 bedroom apartment and worked with her father in a street stall selling garments.

With the help of two friends, Rihanna formed a girl trio, and in 2004, she caught the interest of American record producer Evan Rogers. He assisted Fenty with the recording of a demo, which led to an interview with rapper Jay-Z , who at the time was the chairman of the Def Jam record company. Jay-Z quickly signed the up-and-coming vocalist. She decided to use Rihanna as her stage name for her professional career. With the bubbly, dancehall-influenced hit “Pon de Replay” from 2005, Rihanna attracted a large, global fan base.

The song’s popularity helped her debut full-length album, Music of the Sun (2005), sell more copies. On the album, traditional R&B ballads coexisted with Caribbean-inspired dance-pop that highlighted her melodic Barbadian lilt. Soon after, Rihanna released the upbeat club-oriented album A Girl Like Me (2006), which included “S.O.S.” The song, which featured a sample of the 1981 new-wave smash “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell, became Rihanna’s debut number-one record on the Billboard singles list.

For Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), Rihanna sought to transform her youthful image. With the assistance of such high-profile collaborators as Timbaland and Justin Timberlake, she abandoned the tropical rhythms that had adorned her first two albums and recorded a collection of sleek R&B that presented her as a fiercely independent and rebellious woman. The gambit paid off, as the album sold several million copies worldwide, and its anthemic lead single, “Umbrella,” featuring an introductory rap from Jay-Z, became one of the year’s biggest hits and earned Rihanna a Grammy Award.

In early 2009 Rihanna was beaten by her boyfriend, fellow R&B star Chris Brown, in an incident that was widely covered by tabloid news and gossip blogs. Following their separation, he was convicted of assault. The album that followed later that year, Rated R, much of which she co-wrote, was marked by icily stark production and brooding lyrics that touched on revenge. Despite a little dip in sales, she had another big hit with “Rude Boy.” Rihanna made a comeback with less ominous music on the upbeat Loud single (2010). The album’s sexually explicit single “S&M,” which was released in early 2011, earned her 10th number-one Billboard hit, making her, at age 23, the youngest artist to ever accomplish that feat. Her well-known collaborations with hip-hop artists T.I. and Eminem, which appeared on their albums of theirs, were included in the total. Many people thought her vocals on the latter’s “Love the Way You Lie” (2010) song, which depicts an abusive relationship, gave the song depth.

On the albums Talk That Talk (2011), which yielded the contagious global hit “We Found Love,” and Unapologetic (2012), which was led by the starry-eyed “Diamonds,” Rihanna maintained a steely and seductive persona. The latter album’s contentious duet with Brown, with whom she briefly revived her romance, was also included in that edition. Anti, her eighth studio album, was made available in 2016. Later, it was revealed that Rihanna would take the stage for the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show.

In addition to her music career, Rihanna has performed in the films This Is the End and Battleship (2012). She also provided the voice for one of the lead characters in the animated film Home (2015). Later, in Ocean’s 8 (2018), a female-driven remake of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise from the early 2000s, Rihanna made an appearance as a hacker. She and Donald Glover co-starred in the 2019 Coachella Valley Festival debut of the musical Guava Island, which was later streamed on Amazon.

Fenty Beauty & Fashion

Early in the 2010s, Rihanna and other artists worked together on numerous cosmetics lines before launching her own line, Fenty Beauty, in 2017. Fans of the brand embraced it with fervor and commended it for being inclusive by providing 40 various foundation tones. The fashion label Fenty will be produced by Rihanna in collaboration with LVMH Mot Hennessy—Louis Vuitton, it was revealed in 2019. As a result, she made history by becoming the first woman of color to lead a fashion house at LVMH, the biggest manufacturer of luxury goods in the world. Later that year, Fenty’s debut collection was unveiled.

Personal Life

In 2007, Chris Brown, an American singer, and Rihanna started dating. She began dating Canadian rapper Drake after their romance ended in February 2009, and the two had an on-again, off-again relationship that lasted until 2016.

Rihanna started dating Saudi entrepreneur Hassan Jameel in 2017. In January 2020, they broke up. ASAP Rocky, an American rapper, announced on May 19, 2021, that he and Rihanna are presently dating. The couple announced they were expecting their first child on January 31, 2022. It was confirmed that Rihanna has given birth to a son on May 19, 2022.

For a total donation of $4,200,000 in April 2020, Rihanna matched Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s donation of $2,100,000. She did this to help those experiencing domestic violence and their children during the lockdown by giving an additional $2,100,000.

Controversies

Rihanna’s anticipated appearance at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards was postponed on February 8, 2009. According to reports, she had been physically abused by her boyfriend at the time, Chris Brown.
