Collectively, they understand that by working together, they can effect sustainable and scalable change through education leadership jobs in their organizations.
This Doctorate in Education serves a diverse range of experienced professionals. Rooted in a rigorous academic experience and shared passion, the advanced degree is designed for cross-sector leaders who are motivated to create change in education and learning.
Students accepted into the program bring with them real-world challenges. They are encouraged to question and explore, to take risks and succeed, to push and innovate.
This is a unique educational leadership degree that addresses the needs of working professionals with a rigorous online doctorate in education program that can be completed in as few as 24 months.
We [leaders] need to know how to speak to each other in a common language. Our EdD in Leadership and Innovation creates the space where we can find a common language as we work across sectors to solve problems. Dr. Noel S. Anderson Founding Faculty
Solving problems means challenging preconceptions.
Transformative change can result when you allow your point of view to be questioned. So, one of the best ways to develop knowledge, skills, new approaches, and solutions is to work with others — people across all sectors who will challenge you with differing perspectives.
We bring together students and instructors from inside and outside the scope of traditional education to push you to think differently and to ask tough questions.
When you intentionally gather people from different personal and professional backgrounds to collaborate, something powerful occurs: change happens. It’s how to build new processes, solutions, policies, and powerful new tools — and how to create visionary leaders.
We believe leaders are learners, and that education is essential to great leadership.
The NYU EdD is a rigorous online doctorate degree program that combines the discipline of a top-tier university with an innovative approach to education and leadership. We offer accessibility through enhanced technology and the personal connection of face-to-face instruction.
We examine the most important issues leaders in education and learning face today and discover solutions that make change possible for tomorrow. We apply an academic lens to myriad sectors so students graduate from the doctoral program in education with the core competencies for impactful director and executive-level career options.
The research, analysis, writing, and critical thinking involved in students’ strategic design and implementation of a change management project are assets that students will bring to current and future employers.

Advances in computational speed and data availability, and the development of novel data analysis methods, have birthed a new field: data science. This new field requires a new type of researcher and actor: the rigorously trained, cross-disciplinary, and ethically responsible data scientist. Launched in Fall 2017, the pioneering CDS PhD Data Science program seeks to produce such researchers who are fluent in the emerging field of data science, and to develop a native environment for their education and training. The CDS PhD Data Science program has rapidly received widespread recognition and is considered among the top and most selective data science doctoral programs in the world. It has recently been recognized by the NSF through an NRT training grant.
The CDS PhD program model rigorously trains data scientists of the future who (1) develop methodology and harness statistical tools to find answers to questions that transcend the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines; (2) clearly communicate to extract crisp questions from big, heterogeneous, uncertain data; (3) effectively translate fundamental research insights into data science practice in the sciences, medicine, industry, and government; and (4) are aware of the ethical implications of their work.
Our programmatic mission is to nurture this new generation of data scientists, by designing and building a data science environment where methodological innovations are developed and translated successfully to domain applications, both scientific and social. Our vision is that combining fundamental research on the principles of data science with translational projects involving domain experts creates a virtuous cycle: Advances in data science methodology transform the process of discovery in the sciences, and enable effective data-driven governance in the public sector. At the same time, the demands of real-world translational projects will catalyze the creation of new data science methodologies. An essential ingredient of such methodologies is that they embed ethics and responsibility by design.
These objectives will be achieved by a combination of an innovative core curriculum, a novel data assistantship mechanism that provides training of skills transfer through rotations and internships, and communication and entrepreneurship modules. Students will be exposed to a wider range of fields than in more standard PhD programs while working with our interdisciplinary faculty. In particular, we are proud to offer a medical track for students eager to explore data science as applied to healthcare or to develop novel theoretical models stemming from medical questions.
In short, the CDS PhD Data Science program prepares students to become leaders in data science research and prepares them for outstanding careers in academia or industry. Successful candidates are guaranteed financial support in the form of tuition and a competitive stipend in the fall and spring semesters for up to five years.* We invite you to learn more through our webpage or by contacting [email protected] .
*The Ph.D. program also offers students the opportunity to pursue their study and research with Data Science faculty based at NYU Shanghai. With this opportunity, students generally complete their coursework in New York City before moving full-time to Shanghai for their research. New York Top Employers: Catholic Health Services of Long Island, Capital Brokers Corporation, and Stony Brook University
Earning an education online in New York is made easy by the state’s various colleges and consortiums. Online education has grown at astronomical rates since its inception more than 30 years ago. This is undoubtedly due to people’s desire to earn an education on their own time from the comfort of their own homes. Online education grants students access to a flexible education in which they can “attend” school at times that are convenient to their work schedule and personal life. Moreover, students aren’t limited to a given school simply because it is closest to their homes. Online students have the ability to attend many online schools throughout the country that offer online programs for out-of-state students.
Despite the growth of distance education options, online PhD degree programs are often difficult to find; this is not the case in New York. For instance, both Utica College and the State University of New York (SUNY) host accredited online PhD programs. Moreover, the state of New York does its part to foster online options for its residents through the New York Distance Learning Association (NYDLA). The NYDLA is a medium for tri-state area education professionals, schools, and the government to work together to ensure the highest quality distance education options possible.
Your Online PhD In New York
Two of New York’s largest employers are Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHSLI) and Stony Brook University. CHSLI is a health care system consisting of hospitals, nursing homes, a community agency, and a home service group. The system has more than 15,000 employees, of which more than 3,300 are medical personnel. This is a notable career opportunity for New York students enrolled in Utica College’s Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy and the State University of New York’s (SUNY) Post Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice online PhD degrees. Through these programs, residents are able to work full-time while completing their doctorate degree online.
Meanwhile, Stony Brook University (SBU) is a four-year university and a member of the State University of New York. SBU has more than 13,000 employees and 98% of its faculty have a doctorate or comparable degree. The university is known for its medical education and five schools of medicine, including its School of Dental Medicine, School of Health Technology & Management, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Social Welfare. Given this, both graduates of Utica College’s Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy and the State University of New York’s (SUNY) Post Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice online PhD programs in New York may have the credentials necessary to teach at SBU.

Golden Knights ignite connections across fields, industries, and cultures at our three physical campus locations in New York State.
Main Campus
Set within 640 wooded and waterfront acres, our main campus is where our college students experience everything Clarkson has to offer: residence halls, academic buildings, athletic facilities, state-of-the-art research centers, and more.
Beacon Institute
The Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries is Clarkson’s Hudson Valley campus. This state-of-the-art technical facility just north of New York City serves as an introduction to the surrounding park and as a research institute striving to develop more sustainable water solutions that preserve estuaries and other freshwater ecosystems in the state and beyond.
Capital Region Campus
Close to many industries that rely on Clarkson's research and educational opportunities for employees, the Capital Region Campus is the headquarters for the Office of Graduate Admissions, which also supports graduate enrollment at the main campus in Potsdam, and offers both in-person and hybrid graduate and certificate programs.

U.S. News & World Report, best known for its annual college rankings, released its 2024 list of ranked graduate programs in business, education, law and nursing on Wednesday, based on data submitted by more than 2,200 programs nationally.
“Deciding where to attend graduate school can be formidable, considering the wealth of schools with distinctive and quality programs,” said LaMont Jones, managing editor for education at U.S. News.
Several local schools, as well as a number of State University of New York campuses, made the lists.
The master's program in nursing at Hofstra University's Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies ranked 38th. Adelphi University's master's program in nursing ranked 92nd and Molloy University came in at 98th. Ranked SUNY master's programs in nursing include Downstate (72), Polytechnic (100) and Binghamton (102).
"We're very proud that Adelphi University's reputation for offering high-quality degree academic and professional programs to our students is growing," said Chris Storm, Adelphi's provost and executive vice president.
U.S. News looked at 15 factors to rank the nursing programs, including an increased emphasis on program size, research and faculty resources.
Hofstra opened a new 75,000-square-foot center in 2023 focused on health care and cutting-edge research to train future nurses and engineers. The $76.8 million Science and Innovation Center includes a fully equipped operating room, intensive care suites, nursing simulation rooms, ambulatory patient rooms and science and bioengineering laboratories.
Charles G. Riordan, Hofstra provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, said this year’s ranking “is a testament to the work and dedication of our faculty, staff, students, alumni in the program and of Hofstra's investment in new state-of-the art facilities.”
Teachers College at Columbia University tied with University of Wisconsin-Madison for the top spot in graduate education programs. Locally, Hofstra's graduate education program ranked 203rd and Molloy University's program in Rockville Centre was listed in a grouping between 237-255. SUNY programs in graduate education included SUNY Buffalo (54), Albany (86) and Binghamton (130).
Evaluations were based on research activity, academic excellence of entering students, faculty resources and opinions on program quality from education school deans and school hiring professionals, according to U.S. News, which also categorized specialties in education from special education to policy.
Rankings of law schools included Hofstra University's Maurice A. Deane School of Law at 130th and the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro University in Central Islip at 168th. SUNY Buffalo's law school was ranked at 108.
Successful placement of graduates made up about 60% of the formula used to evaluate law schools.
Several SUNY programs were ranked for graduate business degrees, including SUNY Buffalo (74), Binghamton (90) and Albany (ranked in a grouping of 115-124). Half of the scores were based on academic metrics and half on successful placement and earnings outcomes of their graduates.
The list also broke down rankings by specialty in business, such as accounting and finance. The top schools nationwide were Stanford and Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania.
U.S. News delayed release of its best engineering and medical schools, saying more data analysis is needed. The U.S. News & World Report rankings have been under increasing scrutiny as more elite institutions, such as the law schools at Harvard and Yale, have declined to participate.
