सूती कपड़ों की जानकारी : कॉटन से बने कपड़ों के एक नहीं अनेक फायदे हैं!

सूती कपड़े (Cotton Clothes) की जानकारी के बाद शायद कॉटन के नाम पर 'कुछ भी' खरीदने से आप बच सकते हैं। भले ही कॉटन क्लॉथ स्टाइल व फैशन के मामले में थोड़ा पीछे हैं। मगर सूती कपड़े के फायदे इतने लाजवाब हैं, जो कि बहुत नाम-दाम वाली ड्रेस में शायद ही मिल सके।

नेचुरल फाइबर के कपड़े अपने आप में औषधीय गुण से भरपूर होते हैं। इस कारण ये दवाई की तरह काम करते हैं। जो फाइबर प्राकृतिक रूप से पेड़-पौधों से प्राप्त अथवा कीड़े द्वारा निर्मित हो उसे प्राकृतिक फाइबर की श्रेणी में रखा जाता है।

जैसे- कपास के पौधे से सूती कपड़ा (Cotton) , अलसी के पौधे से लिनन का कपड़ा (Linen) , रेशम के कीड़ों से रेशम/ सिल्क (Silk) प्राप्त होता है। इनकी सबसे खास बात ये होती है कि प्राकृतिक रेशे से बना कपड़ा स्किन को किसी भी प्रकार से नुकसान पहुंचाने का काम नहीं करता है।

सूती कपड़ों की खास बातें

कपास से सूती फाइबर बनाए जाते हैं। कपास बेहद नरम और आरामदायक होता है, जो कि आप महसूस कर चुके होंगे! सात ही यह हाइपोलेरगेनिक भी है। इस कारण सूती के कपड़े त्वचा को सांस लेने, गर्म हवा से बचाने, त्वचा की नमी बरकरार रखने में सबसे अहम भूमिका निभाते हैं। ये कपड़े लंबे समय से चले आ रहे हैं।

ऐसा कहा जाता है कि सूती कपड़े गर्म मौसम में शरीर को ठंडक देने व सर्दी के दिनों में शरीर की गर्माहट बनाए रखते हैं। ये कपड़े शरीर और मौसम के बीच एक सामंजस्य बनाए रखते हैं। इस कारण हम आरामदेह महसूस कर पाते हैं।

गर्मी में सूती कपड़ों का महत्व

मॉइस्चराइजिंग/नमी (moisturizing).

गर्मी के दिनों में त्वचा की नमी बरकरार रखना कितना चुनौतीपूर्ण होता है इससे हम सब वाकिफ हैं। अधिकतर लोग नमी बरकार रखने के लिए क्या-क्या जतन करते हैं। चूंकि सूती कपड़े से हवा का आना जाना नहीं रुकता। शरीर की त्वचा को आसानी से ऑक्सीजन मिल जाता है। इस कारण ये सूखते नहीं।

हीट प्रतिरोधी

शुद्ध सूती कपड़े अच्छी गर्मी प्रतिरोधी होते हैं। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब तापमान 110 डिग्री सेल्सियस से कम होता है, तो ऐसे मौसम में ये शरीर को पूरी तरह बचाने का काम करता है। इसके अलावा धोने के बाद भी इनकी गुणवत्ता बरकरार रहती है जो कि अन्य फाइबर के कपड़ों में नहीं मिलती।

क्षार प्रतिरोध

क्षार के लिए कपास फाइबर प्रतिरोध अपेक्षाकृत बड़ा माना जाता है। ये शरीर के पसीने को सूखाने व सोखने का काम करता है जो कि अन्य कपड़ो में शायद ही मिल सके। ये कीटाणुशोधन के अनुकूल है।

एलर्जी से बचाव

इसमें किसी प्रकार के हानिकारक केमिकल का उपयोग नहीं किया जाता है। इस कारण ये स्किन को किसी प्रकार का नुकसान नहीं पहुंचाता है। एलर्जी या रेशेज होने की संभावना बहुत कम होती है। खासकर, गर्मी के दिन में गलत कपड़े पहनने से हमें स्किन से जुड़ी समस्याएं हो जाती हैं।

इस कारण से एलर्जी से ग्रसित लोगों को सूती कपड़े पहनने की सलाह दी जाती है। इनके इसी गुण के कारण ही टी-शर्ट, गंजी/बनियान, अंडरवियर, रूमाल, गमछा जैसे कपड़े इससे ही बनाए जाते हैं।

अगर मैं भारत के सबसे बड़े corporate houses का नाम लेने को कहूँ तो अमूमन आप – टाटा, बिड़ला और अम्बानी का नाम ले लेंगे, लेकिन अगर मैं आपसे पूछूँ कि इन तीनो में एक कॉमन बात क्या है तो शायद आप सोच में पड़ जाएं!

मैं बताता हूँ-

इन तीनो में कॉमन है इनकी origin… इनकी शुरुआत. इन तीनो की शुरुआत टेक्सटाइल यानी कपड़ों के धंधे से हुई है.

टाटा बिड़ला अम्बानी की शुरुआत टेक्सटाइल से हुई 

1850s में सेठ शिव नारायण बिड़ला ने कॉटन ट्रेडिंग का काम शुरू किया. 

  1870s में जमशेदजी टाटा ने मुंबई के चिंचपोकली में बंद हो चुकी आयल मिल खरीदी और उसे कॉटन मिल में बदल दिया.

1966 में  धीरुभाई अंबानी ने Reliance Commercial Corporation की स्थापना एक पॉलिएस्टर फर्म के रूप में की. बाद में जिसका नाम बदलकर रिलायंस इंडस्ट्रीज कर दिया गया, जो आज दस लाख करोड़ की कम्पनी है. 

यानी ये तीनो ही टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री से उठे और आज भारत ही नहीं विश्व के सबसे बड़े बिजनेस घरानों में गिने जाते हैं.

ख़ास है ये टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री  

दोस्तों, हज़ारों लोगों को फर्श से अर्श तक पहुंचाने वाली ये टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री कुछ ख़ास है…और आज मैं अजय अजमेरा आपसे इसी बारे में बात करूँगा.

So, let us start with the most basic question?

क्या है टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री ? / What is textile industry in Hindi ?

दोस्तों, टेक्सटाइल’ शब्द लैटिन शब्द ‘ टेक्सरे ‘ से लिया गया है जिसका अर्थ है बुनाई करना.

So, basically textile means बुना हुआ कपड़ा.

हिंदी में हम टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री को कपड़ा उद्योग या वस्त्र उद्योग भी कहते हैं.

अब इसे आप ऐसे समझिए…

आपने अभी जो कपड़ा पहना हुआ है वो आप तक कैसे पहुंचा… suppose करिए आपने 100% pure cotton की एक रेड टीशर्ट पहनी है….तो ये आप तक कैसे पहुंची?

जिन्हें नहीं पता उन्हें शायद ये जानकार आश्चर्य हो कि इसकी शुरुआत हुई –

• कॉटन प्लांट या कपास के पौधे के एक बीज से जिसे किसी किसान ने अपने खेत में बोया.

• बीज पौधा बना… पौधे में फूल निकले….मशीन या हाथ से इन फूलों को इकठ्ठा किया गया… ट्रांसपोर्ट द्वारा इन्हें फैक्ट्री में पहुंचाया गया ….कई मशीनों से इन्हें प्रोसेस किया गया… cotton bails या रुई के ढेर बनाये गए….जिसकी सफाई करके और कई अन्य मशीनों की मदद से बना धागा यानी yarn. 
• फिर इन धागों की लड़ियों को red color से dye किया गया…अब इन धागों को horizontally और vertically weave करके  यानी बुन करके कपडा तैयार किया गया.
• फैशन डिज़ाइनर के निर्देशानुसार इस कपड़े को कट करके… डिजाईन करके टेलर ने आपकी रेड कलर की 100% pure cotton टीशर्ट तैयार की. ट्रासंपोर्ट द्वारा तैयार हुई टीशर्ट विभिन्न बाजारों में पहुंची  फिर आप ऐसे ही किसी बाज़ार गए और किसी दूकान से या शायद ऑनलाइन पोर्टल पर उस टीशर्ट को purchase किया. 

अब उस बीज को बोने से इस टीशर्ट को प्राप्त करने तक के सफ़र में जितनी भी चीजें आयीं वो सब टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री का एक हिस्सा हैं. इसके अलावा एक बहुत बड़ा हिस्सा man made fibres या synthetic fibres, जैसे कि नायलॉन, रेयान, polyster इत्यादि से बने कपड़ों का है.

दोस्तों,  टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री, एग्रीकल्चर के बाद दूसरी सबसे बड़ी employment generate करने वाली इंडस्ट्री है. 

 💡 140 Bn$ की ये इंडस्ट्री साढ़े चार करोड़ (4.5 Cr) लोगों को डायरेक्टली और 6 करोड़ लोगों को इनडायरेक्टली रोजगार उपलब्ध कराती है.  और यही कारण है कि यह किसी भी सरकार के लिए एक बहुत महत्त्वपूर्ण इंडस्ट्री है.

कितनीं पुरानी है टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री ? History of  Textile Industry in Hindi

पर सवाल उठता है कि ये इंडस्ट्री इतनी बड़ी बनी कैसे?  इसकी शुरुआत कैसे हुई? इंसान ने कपडे बनाने और पहनने कब से शुरू किये?

दोस्तों, अगर सिर्फ टेक्सटाइल या कपड़ों की बात करें तो आदि मानव जानवरों की खालों को कपड़ों के रूप में इस्तेमाल करते थे. 

Stone age यानी पाषाण युग में बुने हुए कपड़ों के मौजूद होने के साक्ष्य हैं. 

कई अध्यनों से अनुमान लगाया गया है कि मनुष्य  1 लाख साल से भी पहले से कपड़े पहन रहा है. 

और कपड़ा सिलने वाली सुई का आविष्कार 50,000 साल पहले हो चुका था. साउथ अफ्रीका में एक गुफा के अन्दर से bird bone से बनी एक सुई की खोज हुई थी. 

अगर भारत की बात करें तो Indus Valley Civilization, जिसे हम हड़प्पा की सभ्यता भी कहते हैं में लोग वस्त्रों के मामले में बहुत विकसित थे. मोहनजोदड़ो में मिली “प्रीस्ट किंग” नाम की साढ़े चार हज़ार साल पुरानी एक मूर्ती में एक व्यक्ति फूलों की कढाई वाला शाल ओढ़े हुए है.

यानी कपड़ों और इंसानों का नाता बहुत पुराना है. 

लेकिन अगर हम मॉडर्न एरा की बात करें जबसे textile का mass production शुरू हुआ तो ऐसा औद्योगिक क्रांति यानी industrial revolution के दौरान England में हुआ.

औद्योगिक क्रांति के युग में, 1733 में फ्लाइंग शटल, फ्लायर-एंड-बॉबिन प्रणाली और 1738 में जॉन वायट और लुईस पॉल द्वारा रोलर स्पिनिंग मशीन जैसे आविष्कारों के माध्यम से उत्पादन की गति बढ़ाने के लिए बहुत प्रयास किया गया था। । 

लुईस पॉल बाद में 1748 में कार्डिंग मशीन के साथ आए और 1764 में कताई जेनी भी विकसित की गई।

इसके बाद 1784 में  एडमंड कार्टराइट ने पावर लूम का आविष्कार किया।

Power Loom Used in Textile Industry

इन अविष्कारों के कारण 18 वीं शताब्दी में टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री एक मेनस्ट्रीम इंडस्ट्री बन गयी.

भारत में textile industry का आगमन 

अगर भारत की बात करें तो सन 1818 में देश की पहली कपड़ा मिल कोलकाता के निकट स्थापित की गयी. लेकिन सही मायने में कॉटन टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री की शुरुआत 1850s में हुई, जब एक पारसी कॉटन मर्चेंट ने 1854 में बॉम्बे में कॉटन मिल establish की. धीरे-धीरे सन 1900 आते-आते कोलकाता, मुंबई, अहमदाबाद समेत भारत के कई शहरों में कुल 178 टेक्सटाइल मिल्स रन करने लगीं. 

आज का परिदृश्य  / Today’s Scenario of Textile Industry in Hindi

अब बात करते हैं आज की. आज भारत में टेक्सटाइल मार्केट कितना बड़ा है? हम दुनिया में कहाँ स्टैंड करते हैं और कैसे हम इस क्षेत्र में खुद को और मजबूत बना सकते हैं. 

2018 में घरेलू  textiles and apparel industry  140 Bn $ की थी, जिसमें से 100 Bn $ की खपत तो सिर्फ भारत में ही हो गयी और बाकी का 40 Bn $ का माल विश्व भर में एक्सपोर्ट किया गया. 

आज ये इंडस्ट्री भारत की कुल GDP का 2.3% contribute करती है. हमारे देश में जितना भी industrial production होता है उसका 13% textile industry ही करती है और भारत के कुल एक्सपोर्ट में भी इसकी 12% की हिस्सेदारी है. 

और ऐसा भी नहीं है कि कपड़ा और परिधान उद्योग stagnate हो रहा हो, नहीं ये तो और भी मजबूती से आगे बढ़ रहा है. 

2019 से 2021 तक इसकी CAGR ( compound annual growth rate) 28% रहने की उम्मीद है.जबकि अगर हम global textile market size की बात करें तो वो  4.24% CAGR के साथ 2025 तक 1.23 trillion USD पहुँचने का अनुमान है.

वहीँ  2024-25 तक हमारे टेक्सटाइल एक्सपोर्ट की वैल्यू 300 Bn $ तक पहुँच जाएगी. 

और वर्ल्ड मार्किट शेयर में हम 5% की हिस्सेदारी से बढकर 15% की हिस्सेदारी तक पहुँच जायेंगे.

Growth Drivers

शायद आप सोच रहे हों कि टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री इस तरह की phenomenal growth कैसे attain करेगी?

जबरदस्त डिमांड 

• भारत दुनिया की सबसे तेजी से ग्रो हो रही अर्थव्यवस्थाओं में से एक है, जाहिर है इससे लोगों की इनकम बढ़ेगी, जिससे उन्हें अपने कपड़ों व परिधानों पर और अधिक खर्च करने की ताकत मिलेगी. 
• बहुत से उद्योग, टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री के उत्पाद प्रयोग करते हैं, उनसे भी डिमांड बढ़ेगी.

रॉ मटेरियल की उपलब्धता 

• पूरी दुनिया में भारत कॉटन और जूट का सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक है. 
• पॉलिएस्टर, रेशम (सिल्क)  और फाइबर के production में भी हम विश्व में दूसरे स्थान पर हैं. 

सस्ता व स्किल्ड लेबर 

• इसके अलावा हमारे पास एक बहुत बड़ा एडवांटेज स्किल्ड और unskilled labour की पर्याप्त availability का है. जो कम दाम पर उपलब्ध है जिससे cost of production घट जाता है और हमें competitive advantage देता है. 

सरकार का सपोर्ट 

• अगर हम Government Support की बात करें तो भी टेक्सटाइल सेक्टर में सरकार ने 100% FDI की अनुमति दी हुई है. और एक्सपोर्ट्स बढाने के लिए  ASEAN ( Association of Southeast Asian Nations) देशों के साथ फ्री ट्रेड भी allow किया गया है. 
• साथ ही सरकार Scheme For Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) और Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme में भी काफी पैसे इन्वेस्ट कर रही है ताकि private companies के लिए इस सेक्टर को और भी अधिक लुभावना बनाया जा सके और वर्क फ़ोर्स को ट्रेन किया जा सके.

आपके लिए टेक्सटाइल सेक्टर में क्या अवसर हैं… क्या opportunities हैं?

कपड़ा उद्योग पर निबंध | Essay on Textile Industry in Hindi.

Essay # 1. कपड़ा वस्त्र उद्योग का अर्थ (Meaning of Textile Industry):

कपड़ा वस्त्र उद्योग में सूती, ऊनी, रेशमी तथा कृत्रिम वस्त्र उद्योग शामिल हैं । कपड़ा उद्योग विश्व के सबसे पुराने उद्योगों में से एक है । इस उद्योग में शुद्ध कच्चे माल का उपयोग होता । शुद्ध कच्चे माल का वजन और उसके उत्पादन कपड़े का वजन बराबर होता है ।

कपड़ा उद्योग की स्थापना पर परिवहन भाड़े का भारी प्रभाव पड़ता है । इस शुद्ध कच्चे माल को कारखाने के कपास उत्पादन क्षेत्र में लगाया जा सकता है अथवा बाजार (नगर) में लगाया जसतस है जहाँ कपड़ा बेचा जाएगा ।

आधुनिक वस्त्र उद्योग की उत्पत्ति एवं विकास ब्रिटेन में हुआ था, जहाँ रुई से धागा तैयार करने वाली मशीन का आविष्कार हुआ था । ब्रिटेन से सूती कपड़ा तैयार करने वाली मशीनें, यूरोप के अन्य देशों, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका, चीन, जापान एवं भारत पहुँची । वर्तमान में वस्त्र उद्योग विश्व का सबसे अधिक विस्तृत उद्योग है ।

वस्त्र उद्योग के विस्तृत एवं विश्वव्यापी होने के निम्न कारण हैं:

(i) कपड़ा एक आधारभूत आवश्यकता है – कपड़ा प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की माँग है । इसकी माँग सदैव बनी रहती है ।

(ii) मशीनीकरण (Mechanization) – मशीनों की सहायता से अनपढ श्रमिक भी कपड़ा बुन सकता है ।

(iii) कपास का उत्पादन विश्व के बहुत-से देशों में किया जाता है ।

(iv) धागा जल्द नष्ट होने वाली वस्तु नहीं है ।

(v) इसके कच्चे माल और पक्के माल (कपड़े) का ढुलाई भाड़े में विशेष अंतर नहीं होता ।

विश्व में सूती वस्त्र उद्योग विशेषतः संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ब्रिटेन, चीन, सेंट्रल एशियन गणतंत्र, मिस्र, इटली, फ्रांस, स्पेन, जर्मनी, नीदरलैंड, जापान, दक्षिण कोरिया, रूस, यूक्रेन, थाइलैंड, इंडोनेशिया, मलेशिया, फिलिपाइन, श्रीलंका, पाकिस्तान, म्यांमार, अर्जेटाइना, कोलंबिया, ब्राजील, दक्षिण अफ्रीका, नाइजीरिया, आस्ट्रेलिया तथा न्यूजीलैंड़ इत्यादि ।

Essay # 3. भारत में सूती वस्त्र उद्योग ( Cotton Textile Industry in India):

भारत में सूती वस्त्र उद्योग बहुत पुराना है । ढाके की मलमल विश्व भर में प्रसिद्ध थी । भारत में सूती वस्त्र का आधुनिक कारखाना 1818 में कलकत्ता (कोलकाता) के निकट फोर्ट गलोस्टर स्थान पर लगाया गया था, परंतु यह प्रयास सफल नहीं हो पाया था ।

तत्पश्चात् 1851 में मुंबई में सूती वस्त्र का कारखाना लगाया गया । 1958 में मुंबई, अहमदाबाद, पुणे, शोलापुर, कोल्हापुर, कानपुर, नागपुर, मद्रास, चेन्नई, कोयंबटूर, इरोडे, मदुरई, तूतीकोरिन, अल्वे, एलप्पी, कोची तथा त्रिचुर में सूती वस्त्र के कारखाने लगाये गये ।

भारत में सूती वस्त्र के प्रमुख औद्योगिक केंद्र मुंबई, अहमदाबाद, बड़ोदरा, सूरत, भावनगर, राजकोट, शोलापुर, नागपुर, पुणे, भोपाल, रतलाम, इंदौर, उज्जैन, ग्वालियर, जबलपुर, आगरा, बरेली, कानपुर, मेरठ, मोदीनगर, मुरादाबाद, हाथरस, वाराणसी, हावडा, कोलकाता, मुर्शिदाबाद, पटना, अमृतसर, लुधियाना, फगवाड़ा, हिसार, भिवानी, बियावर, भीलवाड़ा, बैंगलूरू, मैसूर, पांडिचेरी, चेन्नई, कोयंबदूर, इरोडे, अल्वे, कोची तथा त्रिचुर इत्यादि ।

निर्यात ( Export):

भारत का विश्व में कपड़ा निर्यात में दूसरा स्थान है । भारत से सूती वस्त्र रूस, फ्रांस, जर्मनी, ब्रिटेन, इटली संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका, नार्वे, स्वीडन, आस्ट्रेलिया, नेपाल, इथोपिया, केन्या, सऊदी-अरब तथा खाड़ी के देशों को निर्यात करता है ।

Essay # 4. सूती वस्त्र उद्योग की समस्याएँ ( Problems of Cotton Textile Industry):

भारत का सूती वस्त्र उद्योग बहुत-सी समस्याओं का सामना कर रहा है ।

इस उद्योग की प्रमुख समस्याओं का वर्णन निम्न में दिया गया है:

i. कच्चे माल का अभाव:

सूती वस्त्र उत्पादन में कच्चे माल की भागीदारी 35% होती है । भारत में उत्तम प्रकार की कपास का अभाव है । भारत लंबे रेशे वाली कपास का आयात मिस्र, सूडान, पाकिस्तान, तुर्कमेनिस्तान तथा संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका से करता है ।

ii. पुरानी मशीनें ( Obsolete Machinery):

भारत के अधिकतर सूती वस्त्र कारखानों की मशीनें पुरानी हैं, जिनकी क्षमता कम है तथा उत्पादन की गुणवत्ता भी घटिया होती है ।

iii. ऊर्जा की कमी ( Shortage of Power):

सूती वस्त्र उद्योग में ऊर्जा की कमी के कारण उत्पादन पर प्रतिकूल प्रभाव पड़ता है ।

iv. अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाजार में प्रतिस्पर्द्धा ( Competition in the International Market):

चीन, दक्षिण कोरिया, जापान, मलेशिया तथा इंडोनोशया से विश्व बाजार में भारी प्रतिस्पर्द्धा है ।

v. घाटे में चल रहे सूती वस्त्र कारखाने ( Sick Mills):

भारत में सौ से अधिक कपड़े के कारखाने घाटे में चल रहे हैं जिनको वित्तीय सहायता की आवश्यकता है ।

vi. हड़ताल एवं तालाबंदी ( Strikes and Lockout):

श्रमिकों की बार-बार हड़ताल तथा कारखानों के मालिकों के द्वारा तालाबंदी का भी उत्पादन पर खराब प्रभाव पड़ता है ।

vii. आधुनिकीकरण की मंद गति:

सूती वस्त्र कारखानों की पुरानी मशीनों के स्थान पर नई मशीनों के लगाने का कार्य बहुत मंद गति से हो रहा है ।

प्रारम्भ में मनुष्य नंगे बदन रहता) था। सदी में उसे कपड़ों की जरूरत । महसूस हुई। उसने मारे गए जानवरों की खाल और फर को शरीर पर लपेटकर अपनी आवश्यकता की पूर्ति की पर लपेटने में उसे परेशानी होती थी। कई बार  वह खुल जाती थी और उसे अपने हाथों से थमना पड़ता था। उसके हाथ दूसरे काम, जैसे-शिकार करना, सामान ढोना आदि नहीं कर पाते थे। उसने एक नुकीली हड्डी से उस खाल में दो छेद किए। और फिर हड्डी को उसमें फंसा दिया। इस प्रकार वह हड्डी बटन | का काम करने लगी।

अब मनुष्य को नंगे रहना बुरा लगने लगा; उसने कपड़ों की तलाश प्रारम्भ की। उसे ऐसे कपड़ों की तलाश थी, जो धोने पर जल्दी सूख जाएं और पहनने में अच्छे लगे। कपड़ों का आविष्कार किसने किया, यह तो ज्ञात नहीं है; पर यह अनुमान लगाया

 जाता है कि उत्तपाषाण युग में कपड़े बनाने और उन्हें पहनने की परम्परा प्रांरभ हुई। धीरे-धीरे कपड़े पहनना सिर्फ शरीर के बचाव के लिए ही आवश्यक नहीं रहा वरन् वह समाज में व्यक्ति की स्थिति को भी दर्शाने लगा। गरीब लोग साधारण वस्त्र पहनने लगे, जबकि अमीर  लोग उत्तम वस्त्रों की तलाश करने लगे।

अमेरिका में 1793 में दो महत्वपूर्ण घटनाएं हुई। एली व्हाइट ने नो बकपासा के रेशों से बीज निकालने के लिए मशीन तैयार की। दूसरी ओर सामुवोल्ला स्लेटर, जो बुनाई मजदूर था, ने पहली कपड़ा मिल लगाई।

अब मानुष्य कपास से बने सूती कपड़ों से सन्तुष्ट नहीं था। उसने कृत्रिमा रेशों से मनपसन्द कपड़े तैयार करना प्रांरभ किया। नायलॉन इस दिशा में पहला प्रयास था। धीरे-धीरे सिंथेटिक कपड़ों की बाढ़-सी आ गाई  

पहले कपड़े हाथ से सिल जाते थे, फिर सिलाई मशीन  आ गई। लोग ह्माथा या पौरों से चलनेवाली मशीन से कपड़े सिलने लगे। उसके बाद बिजली की स्वचालित मशीनें आई और अब रेडीमेड कपड़ों की बाढ़-सी आ गाई है।

कपड़ों की दिशा में प्रयोग अभी जारी हैं। पर्वतारोहण के लिए अलग कपड़े बनाए जाते है। अंतरिक्ष यात्री अलग किस्म के कपड़े पहनते हैं।

भारत का वस्त्र उद्योग पूरी दुनिया में अपनी अलग पहचान रखता है। यहाँ के खादी वस्त्र, बनारसी साड़ियाँ, कश्मीरी शॉल आदि की देश-विदेश में खूब माँग रहती है। इन सभी में भारत के अलग-अलग राज्यों की संस्कृति की झलक दिखाई देती है। यही वजह है कि कश्मीर घूमने जाने वाले अपने मित्रों से हम वहाँ की पशमीना शॉल लाने के लिए कहना नहीं भूलते, तो बाजार जाने पर सिल्क के कपड़े हमेशा दक्षिण भारत के खास सिल्क के ही माँगते हैं। वर्षों से इन वस्त्रों की देश-दुनिया में माँग बरकरार है तो इसके पीछे वजह भी है। आज जबकि पूरी दुनिया में मशीनों से तैयार कपड़ा पहना और बेचा जा रहा है, तब पूरी तरह से हाथ से तैयार खादी सभी का ध्यान अपनी ओर खींचती है। न केवल यह हाथ से बनाई जाने के कारण खास है, बल्कि उपयोग के लिहाज से भी यह अच्छी रहती है। इसे सर्दियों और गर्मियों दोनों में ही पहना जा सकता है। गांधीजी के समय चलन में आने वाली खादी आज दुनिया में सबसे ज्यादा और सबसे महँगे बिकने वाले वस्त्रों में से एक है।

वहीं दक्षिण भारत की सिल्क की साड़ियाँ भी अपने बेहतरीन सिल्क और सुंदर, बॉर्डर के लिए जानी जाती हैं। खासकर मैसूर के कोलेगल, तमिलनाडु के काँचीपुरम् और आंध्र प्रदेश के अरनी की सिल्क साड़ियाँ खूब पसंद की जाती हैं। दक्षिण भारत के अतिरिक्त असम का मुगा सिल्क भी उच्च गुणवत्ता वाला होता है। यहाँ का पारंपरिक परिधान, मेखला चादर आदि इसी से बनाए जाते हैं। इस पर विभिन्न डिजाइनें बनी रहती हैं।

भारत के अलग-अलग राज्यों के वस्त्रों की अपनी विशेषताएँ हैं। दक्षिण से थोड़ा ऊपर चलें तो आता है बंगाल। सांस्कृतिक रूप से अत्यंत समृद्ध बंगाल अपने मलमल के लिए मशहूर है। कई तरह की सुइयों के प्रयोग से रंग-बिरंगे धागों से बना मलमल बेहद नरम होता है। बंगाल के अलावा भी आज भारत के कई राज्यों में मलमल बनाया जाता है। कशीदे, छापे, फूलों के डिजाइन वाला और जामदानी मलमल पूरी दुनिया में लोगों की पहली पसंद बन चुका है। आज भारत में इतनी तरह के वस्त्र मिलते हैं, तो इसलिए कि अलग-अलग राज्यों में स्थानीय कारीगरों ने अपने हुनर को पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी आगे बढ़ाया है।

कपड़े मानव निर्मित चीज है । कपड़ों का उपयोग हम कई तरह से करते हैं । कपड़ों का उपयोग पहनने के लिए किया जाता है । इसके अलावा कपड़ों का उपयोग चादर बनाने के लिए किया जाता है । जो हम दोनों के दोनों में हमें छुपने के लिए मदद करता है । 

कपड़े का उपयोग तोलिया बनाने के लिए किया जाता है । घरों की खिड़कियों दरवाजों पर पर्दा लगाने के लिए भी कपड़े का उपयोग किया जाता है । कपड़े के बैग भी बनाए जाते हैं जिनका उपयोग हम किसी तरह की घर की सामग्री को रखने मे करते हैं । कपडे धागा से बनता है धागे का निर्माण कपास या ऊन से किया जाता है । 

अक्सर लोग पहनने वाले कपड़े या बैग बनाने का कार्य अपने घरों से भी करते हैं । वह घर से कार्य करके अच्छा पैसा भी कमाते हैं । अक्सर कपड़े बुनाई करके या  सिलाई करके तैयार किए जाते हैं । कपड़ों में बटन लगाए जाते हैं । इसके अलावा भारतीय महिलाएं सलवार , कमीज , जींस टीशर्ट आदि भी पहनना पसंद करती हैं । 

इसके अलावा महिलाओं के कपड़े बनाने के लिए उनमें कढ़ाई भी की जाती हैं । हमारे भारत देश में पहले के लोग अधिकतर धोती कुर्ता पहनना पसंद करते थे लेकिन आजकल के समय में लोग पेंट शर्ट पहनना पसंद करते हैं । महिलाएं साड़ी पहनती हैं एक साड़ी लगभग 9 मीटर लंबाई की होती है ।

A दुपट्टा is a long scarf that covers the shoulders and is worn over the head. The दुपट्टा can be made out of cotton, silk, and may be lined with gold threads. The दुपट्टा may be plain or monocolored, or lined with intricate patterns. During the Mughal Times, the दुपट्टा was worn for modesty, but now not only is it for modesty, it is also a fashion statement. Nowadays one side of the दुपट्टा can be thrown over one shoulder.

A धोती is a piece of cloth that is knotted and worn around the waist by men. The धोती is considered a type of formal clothing. For purposes of convenience, sometimes the ends of the धोती is folded; thereby showing the legs. However when talking to a superior or a woman, it is disrespectful to have the layers of the धोती folded. Usually some type of कुरता is worn in addition to the  धोती.
