Book Learning Vs Experience: Which Is More Important Today?

What is more important for people, book learning or experience? Some have spent their lives studying and gradually acquiring valuable deep knowledge. They are afraid to start and do something wrong. They continue accumulating knowledge, and, in the end, they realize that they have only learned one thing to do well during this time. In contrast, others don’t worry about anything. They quickly start doing something using learning beyond the book, make mistakes, and learn from this experience.

The debate between book learning and experience has been going on for a long time. There is no clear “right answer” yet, but there is strong evidence that experience gives us important skills that can’t be learned in books. The existence of both competency based colleges and traditional credit-hour-based ones clearly shows that academia acknowledges that there is more to learning than credit-hours and GPA. Here are four reasons why experience is more important than book learning.

Book learning is generally called some information that can be useful when a person studies something. The acquired knowledge can be supplemented and improved from time to time. Therefore, it is generally accepted that knowledge has no practical boundaries. Knowledge is a universal category of human communication.

It is the knowledge, skills, and abilities that a person or a community of people has acquired through living, practicing, or working in a particular field. Gaining experience is a great advantage in life. The biggest one is that once you have experienced and accepted it, you can no longer make serious mistakes. Therefore, experience is essential for anyone who wants to learn the right principles and guidelines for a successful life.

A book is like a guide to the pursuit of knowledge. But each of us needs to experience it, learn new things and improve our lives. So, the idea that “ experience is the best teacher ” is quite true. Through experience, you can also learn how to interact with different people. You will also learn how to negotiate and compromise. So, what are other arguments for experience ?

You can become an expert in a particular field

Neither musicians, athletes, scientists, nor doctors have read books and become experts. Of course, reading the best books on learning gives you knowledge, but experience gives you know-how. It comes from practicing again and again. Experts can’t manage to learn only from books. Professionals can make themselves because they devote their work, practice, and time to obtaining this position. This distinguishes them from all the others.

Anyone who wants to be an expert in a particular field needs practice and experience. Unfortunately, no matter how much you read a book, you can’t become an expert.

So, reading more books about something doesn’t lead to success. You can acquire a lot of knowledge by reading and teaching, but there are also ways to accumulate knowledge through experience. Experience helps you understand the theory behind the concept

Book learning to understand a concept is important. But if you can’t understand the application of the concept in real time, the concept is useless. Experience allows you to put the learned concepts into practice. You can learn a lot from books on self-learning. You can’t effectively learn important skills without applying the concept to real life.

Experience is rooted in your memory

The more you practice, the more new ways you have in your brain to do a good job. The more experience you have in practicing a concept you are learning, the better you will master the necessary skills. Of course, with experience, skills and concepts are acquired. They become a part of you.

Experience can help you learn from your mistakes

You can achieve maximum success in any industry if you dare to take on challenges without fear of failure. The more you practice the learned technique, the more you rebuild it until you master it. It is worth trying and failing.

Of course, the experience can lead to failure, but you can also learn from that failure and lead to success. This is valuable knowledge that is not found in any book. It has been said, “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?

English Writing Practice: Topic 4 – Sample 1

There are two main channels for people to learn knowledge –from books and from experience.  Generally , knowledge gained from books is theoretical, and that gained from experience is practical. It is difficult to answer which is more important to us. It depends on the phases and events of our learning. Knowledge learned from books is instructive, which perhaps cannot learn directly from experience.

We often hear thunder and see lightning in the sky, and we can easily find that lightning will be seen sooner than sound will be heard. According to our experience alone, we cannot tell why it happened. But when we learn some physics in textbooks, we will find the answer clearly that because light travels faster than sound does, it takes less time for light to travel the same distance than for sound. Therefore, book knowledge can inform us of some useful theories that can give us general ideas and help us understand the real phenomenon better.

In turn , practice knowledge checks out the theories gained from books. There is an old Chinese saying that practice is the only criterion for inspecting the truth. So not all knowledge from books is credible, even false. When Aristotle wrote in his transcripts that the earth is the center of our planets, no one doubts this for centuries.

However, when Galileo read about it, he did not suspect it at first, but when he made some observations and research, he found it is not the truth. Then comes the new theory—the Sun center theory. In our daily life, we can learn much information from practice. To learn swimming , it is useless to be absorbed in reading skills written in books. Only when you learn it in a swimming pool, can you make it? There are still a lot of things you must learn from your own experience, such as driving a car, riding a bicycle, and operating a machine. And the most important is that it is often easier to learn knowledge from practice than from books. As far as the average person is concerned, it is natural to learn from experience. Primitive people learned skills hand by hand which is the way they were handed down from one generation to another. Modern people also learn things in practice.

In workshops, leading workers teach apprentices carefully; in activity clubs, teachers teach youngsters to be familiar with their hobbies. It is obvious that all things considered knowledge gained from practice is closer and more direct than from books. Therefore, two kinds of knowledge have importance.

For research people, knowledge from books is more important, while for our average people, knowledge from practice is more important . As students, we must first learn knowledge from books well, and at the same time we must have  the good sense to tell what is right and what is wrong

We gain our knowledge about the world and our life from two sources: experience and books. These two resources are both important, but which of them is more important?

Knowledge from books forms a very important part of our knowledge structure . In schools and colleges, we learn knowledge that is fundamental to our future careers. We learn knowledge from books in order to make our contributions to this society in the future. A student learns mathematic equations and other scientific knowledge and becomes a scientist or engineer.

We will be  illiterate and ignorant without learning knowledge from books. Moreover, we acquire knowledge about life and the world by reading books, magazines, and newspapers. This is also very important as we cannot experience everything all by ourselves. Therefore books are a very important source of knowledge. On the other hand, we can’t learn everything from a book. “Experience is the best teacher” is an old cliché, but I agree with it. The most important, and sometimes the hardest, lessons we learn in life come from our participation in situations. We learn how to  get along with others or how to have self-respect from our experience, not from books. We cannot learn emotional feelings, such as love and care, through books; they come from our real-life experiences. Knowledge from experience is also a very important supplement to knowledge from books.

Needless to  say both learning sources,  books and experience, are very important to us . But in my opinion knowledge from experience is more important, because, without knowledge from experience, it is impossible to get a real understanding of knowledge from books, and how to apply this knowledge to real-world situations.

The Sample Essay

              Nowadays, there are many ways for people to learn about the world.  In my opinion, the knowledge we gain from our personal experiences is more important than what we learn from printed sources.  I feel this way for two main reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.

               First of all, books are not always accurate and often contradict what we find in the real world.  This is a result of the fact that books are often written by unqualified authors, but also because even respected and trained academics have biases and personal shortcomings.  Even if a diligent professor writes a book with the best intentions and tries to avoid factual errors, his research might be faulty as a result of major shifts in world affairs.  My own experience visiting the Republic of Sokovia several years ago is a perfect example of this.  Before I took my trip, I read a great number of textbooks, articles and guide books about the region.  All of these informed me that Sokovia was a very conservative place, and suggested that the people there might be unwelcoming.  However, when I actually arrived, I encountered a very welcoming, progressive culture.  Though the books I consulted were only a few years old, they were wholly out of date and did not match my personal experience.  This example demonstrates some of the problems with depending too much on books for our knowledge.

               Secondly, the knowledge we gain from personal experiences stays with us longer than things we read.  We often put books away and forget about them after we read them.  For example, I was a university student for four years and I read hundreds of books during that time.  However, it is now a decade since my graduation and I can only remember just a few of those books.  The rest of them all blend together and the knowledge I gained at the time is lost to me now.  In contrast, I still have very vivid memories of the aforementioned trip to Europe.  What I learned there about culture, people and society is burned into my memory and I will never forget it.  This is because I had a personal connection to my trip, while I had only a temporary academic connection to my university studies.

               In conclusion, I strongly believe that knowledge gained from experiences is more important than knowledge gained from reading books.  This is because books are sometimes inaccurate, and because our personal memories stay with us longer than the facts we read about in print.

Knowledge can be acquired from many sources. These include books, teachers and practical experience, and each has its own advantages. The knowledge e gain from books and formal education enables us to learn about things that e have no opportunity to experience in daily life. We can study all the places in the world and learn from people will never meet in our lifetime, just by reading about them in books. We can also develop our analytical skills and learn how to view and interpret the ‘world around us in different ways. Furthermore , we can learn from the past by reading books. In this way , we won’t repeat the mistakes of others and can build on their achievements.

Practical experience, on the other hand, can give us more useful knowledge. It is said that one learns best by doing, and I believe that this is true, whether one is successful or not. In fact, I think making mistakes is the best way to learn. Moreover, if one wants to make new advances, it is necessary to act. Innovations do not come about through reading but through experimentation. Finally , one can apply the skills and insights gained through the study of books to practical experience, making an already meaningful experience more meaningful. However, unless it is applied to real experiences, book knowledge remains theoretical and, in the end, is useless. That is why I believe that knowledge gained from practical experience is more important than that acquired from books.

The invention of Braille was a major turning point in the history of disability. The writing system of raised dots used by visually impaired people was developed by Louis Braille in nineteenth-century France. In a society that did not value disabled people in general, blindness was particularly stigmatized, and lack of access to reading and writing was a significant barrier to social participation. The idea of tactile reading was not entirely new, but existing methods based on sighted systems were difficult to learn and use. As the first writing system designed for blind people’s needs, Braille was a groundbreaking new accessibility tool. It not only provided practical benefits, but also helped change the cultural status of blindness. This essay begins by discussing the situation of blind people in nineteenth-century Europe. It then describes the invention of Braille and the gradual process of its acceptance within blind education. Subsequently, it explores the wide-ranging effects of this invention on blind people’s social and cultural lives.

Lack of access to reading and writing put blind people at a serious disadvantage in nineteenth-century society. Text was one of the primary methods through which people engaged with culture, communicated with others, and accessed information; without a well-developed reading system that did not rely on sight, blind people were excluded from social participation (Weygand, 2009). While disabled people in general suffered from discrimination, blindness was widely viewed as the worst disability, and it was commonly believed that blind people were incapable of pursuing a profession or improving themselves through culture (Weygand, 2009). This demonstrates the importance of reading and writing to social status at the time: without access to text, it was considered impossible to fully participate in society. Blind people were excluded from the sighted world, but also entirely dependent on sighted people for information and education.

In France, debates about how to deal with disability led to the adoption of different strategies over time. While people with temporary difficulties were able to access public welfare, the most common response to people with long-term disabilities, such as hearing or vision loss, was to group them together in institutions (Tombs, 1996). At first, a joint institute for the blind and deaf was created, and although the partnership was motivated more by financial considerations than by the well-being of the residents, the institute aimed to help people develop skills valuable to society (Weygand, 2009). Eventually blind institutions were separated from deaf institutions, and the focus shifted towards education of the blind, as was the case for the Royal Institute for Blind Youth, which Louis Braille attended (Jimenez et al, 2009). The growing acknowledgement of the uniqueness of different disabilities led to more targeted education strategies, fostering an environment in which the benefits of a specifically blind education could be more widely recognized.

Several different systems of tactile reading can be seen as forerunners to the method Louis Braille developed, but these systems were all developed based on the sighted system. The Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris taught the students to read embossed roman letters, a method created by the school’s founder, Valentin Hauy (Jimenez et al., 2009). Reading this way proved to be a rather arduous task, as the letters were difficult to distinguish by touch. The embossed letter method was based on the reading system of sighted people, with minimal adaptation for those with vision loss. As a result, this method did not gain significant success among blind students.

Louis Braille was bound to be influenced by his school’s founder, but the most influential pre-Braille tactile reading system was Charles Barbier’s night writing. A soldier in Napoleon’s army, Barbier developed a system in 1819 that used 12 dots with a five line musical staff (Kersten, 1997). His intention was to develop a system that would allow the military to communicate at night without the need for light (Herron, 2009). The code developed by Barbier was phonetic (Jimenez et al., 2009); in other words, the code was designed for sighted people and was based on the sounds of words, not on an actual alphabet. Barbier discovered that variants of raised dots within a square were the easiest method of reading by touch (Jimenez et al., 2009). This system proved effective for the transmission of short messages between military personnel, but the symbols were too large for the fingertip, greatly reducing the speed at which a message could be read (Herron, 2009). For this reason, it was unsuitable for daily use and was not widely adopted in the blind community.

Nevertheless, Barbier’s military dot system was more efficient than Hauy’s embossed letters, and it provided the framework within which Louis Braille developed his method. Barbier’s system, with its dashes and dots, could form over 4000 combinations (Jimenez et al., 2009). Compared to the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet, this was an absurdly high number. Braille kept the raised dot form, but developed a more manageable system that would reflect the sighted alphabet. He replaced Barbier’s dashes and dots with just six dots in a rectangular configuration (Jimenez et al., 2009). The result was that the blind population in France had a tactile reading system using dots (like Barbier’s) that was based on the structure of the sighted alphabet (like Hauy’s); crucially, this system was the first developed specifically for the purposes of the blind.

While the Braille system gained immediate popularity with the blind students at the Institute in Paris, it had to gain acceptance among the sighted before its adoption throughout France. This support was necessary because sighted teachers and leaders had ultimate control over the propagation of Braille resources. Many of the teachers at the Royal Institute for Blind Youth resisted learning Braille’s system because they found the tactile method of reading difficult to learn (Bullock & Galst, 2009). This resistance was symptomatic of the prevalent attitude that the blind population had to adapt to the sighted world rather than develop their own tools and methods. Over time, however, with the increasing impetus to make social contribution possible for all, teachers began to appreciate the usefulness of Braille’s system (Bullock & Galst, 2009), realizing that access to reading could help improve the productivity and integration of people with vision loss. It took approximately 30 years, but the French government eventually approved the Braille system, and it was established throughout the country (Bullock & Galst, 2009).

Although Blind people remained marginalized throughout the nineteenth century, the Braille system granted them growing opportunities for social participation. Most obviously, Braille allowed people with vision loss to read the same alphabet used by sighted people (Bullock & Galst, 2009), allowing them to participate in certain cultural experiences previously unavailable to them. Written works, such as books and poetry, had previously been inaccessible to the blind population without the aid of a reader, limiting their autonomy. As books began to be distributed in Braille, this barrier was reduced, enabling people with vision loss to access information autonomously. The closing of the gap between the abilities of blind and the sighted contributed to a gradual shift in blind people’s status, lessening the cultural perception of the blind as essentially different and facilitating greater social integration.

The Braille system also had important cultural effects beyond the sphere of written culture. Its invention later led to the development of a music notation system for the blind, although Louis Braille did not develop this system himself (Jimenez, et al., 2009). This development helped remove a cultural obstacle that had been introduced by the popularization of written musical notation in the early 1500s. While music had previously been an arena in which the blind could participate on equal footing, the transition from memory-based performance to notation-based performance meant that blind musicians were no longer able to compete with sighted musicians (Kersten, 1997). As a result, a tactile musical notation system became necessary for professional equality between blind and sighted musicians (Kersten, 1997).

Braille paved the way for dramatic cultural changes in the way blind people were treated and the opportunities available to them. Louis Braille’s innovation was to reimagine existing reading systems from a blind perspective, and the success of this invention required sighted teachers to adapt to their students’ reality instead of the other way around. In this sense, Braille helped drive broader social changes in the status of blindness. An essay is a focused piece of writing that explains, argues, describes, or narrates.

In high school, you may have to write many different types of essays to develop your writing skills.

Academic essays at college level are usually argumentative : you develop a clear thesis about your topic and make a case for your position using evidence, analysis and interpretation.

The structure of an essay is divided into an introduction that presents your topic and thesis statement , a body containing your in-depth analysis and arguments, and a conclusion wrapping up your ideas.

The structure of the body is flexible, but you should always spend some time thinking about how you can organize your essay to best serve your ideas.

Your essay introduction should include three main things, in this order:

  • An opening hook to catch the reader’s attention.
  • Relevant background information that the reader needs to know.
  • A thesis statement that presents your main point or argument.

The length of each part depends on the length and complexity of your essay .

A thesis statement is a sentence that sums up the central point of your paper or essay . Everything else you write should relate to this key idea.

A topic sentence is a sentence that expresses the main point of a paragraph . Everything else in the paragraph should relate to the topic sentence.

At college level, you must properly cite your sources in all essays , research papers , and other academic texts (except exams and in-class exercises).

Add a citation whenever you quote , paraphrase , or summarize information or ideas from a source. You should also give full source details in a bibliography or reference list at the end of your text.

The exact format of your citations depends on which citation style you are instructed to use. The most common styles are APA , MLA , and Chicago .

Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why? (IELTS Exam) Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience Knowledge is multisource in our life. One of these sources are books the other source for Human beings is experience. It is clear that books are not the unique source of knowledge and recognition but they are the most important source. First, books are inevitable an essential tool for learning because they actually elicit and conclude the experiences, efforts, stories, cultures and civilizations of peoples all over centuries in the world. For example, reading history books or novels give the human a huge pieces of information about social life in different countries over past times. Second, those books are authored and written by influential figures in societies such as scientists, researchers, scholars, and politicians in all arenas of life. Reading scientific or economic books for instance, increase your information about biology, physics or business that are based on searching results and precise criteria. As a result, these books can be source of laws and rules for government and officials to manage and administrate their societies in all aspects. On the other hand, it is right the fact that human learns from his experience by participating in several situations in his lives that are not mentioned in books. However, this experience benefits and influence one person only ,who faced difficulties, struggled to achieve his dreams and attempted to change his life but not the other people. For example, if anyone set up a business and failed, he will not follow the same pattern in managing his work next time. Otherwise he will put a new plan by avoiding the mistakes he done first time. This undocumented event highlighted the personal situation of one person in economic status not the life of all people and not in all fields of knowledge. In conclusion, books are an intrinsic source of knowledge and more significant than experience but that does not mean that we can live without or dispense with our daily brush.

Even if you're someone who reads regularly, it can be hard to keep up your reading goals.

Trying to read more can be a hard habit to stick to – even if you're someone who regularly reads a lot.

Just ask Nadia Odunayo, the founder and CEO of The StoryGraph, a book recommendation website with over a million users. Odunayo said that when she started The Storygraph in 2019, reading more felt like an essential goal.

"It felt like it very much became part of my identity as a reader, " Odunayo told Morning Edition . "Like, I run a books company, I need to make sure I'm reading."

In a few years, Odunayo went from reading 13 books a year to well over 70.

While she feels like that's a realistic goal for her, it's not an achievable goal for everybody.

Odunayo says setting realistic expectations about how many books you want to read can be the key to success. But making sure you pick the right a mount of books to read in a year can be tricky.

"It was a combination of making the time, but also being excited about a lot more books, " Odunayo said.

Reading goals don't always have to be numerical. Goals such as wanting to read books from more diverse authors or reading more of a specific genre can be better than just focusing on a number. Brea Grant, one of the hosts of the podcast Reading Glasses , says she realized she didn't want to set a number goal when she found herself reading books she didn't like, or finishing books just for the sake of hitting a number.

"That's not fun because that's going to eventually turn you off from reading," Grant said.

Sites like The StoryGraph features reading challenges that users can participate in to expand their reading habits. One challenge recommends books from 10 different countries for users who want to read from more diverse authors.

You can also create your own goals. If you're an avid fantasy romance reader, for example, you may want to see how many science fiction books you can incorporate into your reading habit.

Sometimes, it can be as simple as reading books on a topic you're interested in. Grant, a filmmaker, decided that this year that she wanted to read more books about filmmaking.

"I didn't go to film school, and I realized that I haven't even read that many books about filmmaking, even though I've been a filmmaker for so many years," Grant said. "So I think that focusing on reading more books about my craft is a better goal than a specific number of books."

Reading can often seem like a solitary hobby, but it doesn't have to be.

Check your local area for book clubs and reading-related events. Or find someone to talk to about books – and you don't even have to ask about what they are currently reading. You can ask them about their favorite book, or the book that impacted their life the most.

"That's another way that people can show that they're bookish without necessarily being like 'I read 400 books this year'," Mallory O' Meara, who hosts the Reading Glasses podcast with Grant, said.

If you'd rather get lost in a book alone, O'Meara says you might enjoy finding new spots to read in your city. It might feel intimidating going into a coffee shop or bar alone, but it can be a fun way to explore your neighborhood while doing something you love.

"We really encourage people to make it an activity," Grant said. "Get a cozy blanket, get a cup of tea, something that you look forward to at the end of the day."

Whatever you prefer, Grant says it's always important to remember why you want to read more, and not get too caught up in feeling like you have to read a certain number of books.

"Reading is a hobby, and you want to get the maximum enjoyment out of it," Grant said.

Don't be afraid to adjust your goal

At the beginning of the year, it's easy to set high expectations of yourselves. You think you can workout everyday, or read a book every week. But as the year goes on, you might want to adjust that number to a goal you know you can reach.

"There's a lot of things we won't achieve in life," Grant said. "Make reading something you know you can get done."

Finding that perfect number can be hard.You want something that challenges you, but doesn't feel unrealistic. Additionally, life can get in the way. These challenges could include large work projects or family obligations that you didn't anticipate at the beginning of the year.

Suzanne Skyvara, who leads marketing at Goodreads, a book recommendation site where over six million users participate in its annual reading challenge, recommends adjusting your number later in the year if you need, and encourages not to think of changing your goal as "failing."

"If you're finding that you've set the goal too high in the middle of the year and it's becoming demotivating you can bring it down, which re-energizes me and gets me back on track," Skyvara said.

After all, reading should be a hobby, not homework.

"The goal should always be to enjoy your reading life more," O' Meara said. "To read more books that you either love or teach you something or you connect with in some way."

In our live, we can learn from books or learn our own experiences.Both of them play different and main role for people.To my way of thinking, books are more important than experience. First of all, an efficient way of obtaining knowledge is learning by readings books.There are large amount of knowledge in books, such as literature math,geography and so on.For example, if you want to know your country’s landscape you can get through geography books.Moreover, books save us a lot time and money to achieve knowledge.For instance, if you want to know about Egyptian Pyramids due to of photographic books or guide books, you are able to learn approximately sharing two hours about Pyramids.Therefore, you don’t need to travel to Egypt,which is impossible with your condition. After looking at these examples, needles to say that books tend us to gain extensive knowledge without waste a lot of time and money.Besides, books give us excellent reference on things occuring in the past,also offer many ideas what is happening in the world today and even what may go in the future.It is impossible to gain such knowledge through experience.For instance,doctors make an operation or treat their patients according to their readings.As a matter of fact my practise supervisor said that I had accustomed to translating news without knowing theory.As a result, chief editor corrects many theoretical mistakes in those materials and he suggests me to read a range of theoretical books.Of course these examples show that knowledge is the root of the experience.As a consequence, reading books extend aid to develop personality, moral integrity and experiences.

Capone, you are working way ahead of yourself. Slow down and learn the way to construct a sentence in a clear and understandable way. You are clearly in a hurry to achieve a certain standard, but this you will have great difficulty in doing if you don’t concentrate on just what it is that your sentence is supposed to be saying. My advice is that you read. Read slowly, and understand exactly what the writer is saying and how they are saying it. This is the most overlooked mistake that all learners ignore.

Sometimes we meet really wise persons, who become our authorities. We want to follow them and know, what exactly made them so worth respect: books or life experience?

First of all, I would like to emphasize a value of books. What we experience in daily life is only a tiny part of all the world and history. Humanity experience reaches really old times and the most splendid thing is that a lot of that wisdom was written and saved on paper. E.x. antiquity thinkers such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle (via books) can teach us about life much more than we would do it by ourselves.

On the other hand, these magnificent people can help only if we not only read their wisdom, but also use it in a real life, cope with difficulties and improve our personalitites. Otherwise, person, who spends all days with books, will have only a theoretical understanding, while person, who probably does not read at all, will be accustomed to life trials and capable to deal with them.

To conclude, although both of these two sources play really significant role in our life, I believe that experiences without books are more needful than the opposite variant.

If someone who wants to learn how to swim or drive a car just reads through books and never experiences himself, he cannot be successful. This example can tell us how important it is to gain knowledge from experience. However, a larger knowledge is acquired from books since book is a good teacher. Almost everything can be learned through book. In fact, book is more important than experience for three reasons. The first reason is that some knowledge cannot be learned from experience. It is undoubted that knowledge which is recorded by scientists or people from ancient times to present can only be acquired from books. Book not only give us excellent reference on things occurring in the past, but also offer many ideas on what is happening in the world today and even on what may go on in the future. Without recorded source like books, it is hard for us to inherit the large amount of precious knowledge from forefathers? Another example is that you can learn the outer space. Obviously, it is impossible for one to obtain such knowledge through experience. An additional reason why knowledge from books is estimated more valuable source is that it is not only a broad and major source but also an effective way to learn. Gaining knowledge from such source saves plenty of time and energy. It is not necessary for a college student to test every theory in experience. In contrast to experience, books help people understand theories more quickly and even much better. The last but not the least reason is that knowledge from experience is remarkably limited in comparison with knowledge gained from books. As human life is limited, if one wants to improve mental powers, one had better read books. As a matter of fact, reading books extend aid to develop personality and moral integrity. Above all, books enrich us with vast knowledge. In conclusion, it is argued that book is a more important source of knowledge than experience. Knowledge from such source is proven less errors and less time to gain. Knowing the value of books, people should spend more time of a day reading them to receive benefits for a intellectual and active life.

Are books more important than experience?

Books gives us insight into life! When we look at our life, the question arises, do we learn everything from books or is it experience? I personally believe the basics come from the books we read, but when we practically apply them again and again, that is our experience. Experience is of much more value, I beleive. Things learned through experience, become a strong memory and also books knowledge can not be simply applied to every scenario in our life. First of all, when we learn through air experience, it becomes a strong memory, and stay there in our heads, for the rest of our lives. What happens is, when things are applied in life, especially those learned from books, we use most of our senses: speaking, listening, recalling, learning to put most of that important stuff in mind. As a result of involvement of all these senses, stuff stays longer and does not fade away easily. I have my own compelling example; I am a medical student. When we study examination methods from book, we look over them and try to memorize steps, But, on the contrary, when we try those steps on our patients, we tend to remember the whole interaction episode. So everyone consider doing those examination methods practically, instead of revising them again and again in your head. Another thing to be mentioned here is that, when we apply our knowledge practically, we always do not face the ideal scenario mentioned in the books. Those book point and summaries might not work. Instead, we may have to alter or apply our own tricks. For example, when I initially started approaching patients, for there medical history, i used to ask the questions mentioned in books word to words. But unfortunately, in most of the cases I was unable to get my question across. It was frustrating. With experience I realized, sometimes it is better to break down the question further, for easy understanding and comprehension of the patient and also to paraphrase it if they can not exactly get it. Cutting the long story short, I am a firm believer of the fact that experience is more important than books, but the importance of the books can not be shadowed. All the basic knowledge is in the books, which we can apply in our lives.
