A book fair is the book lovers’ paradise. Now I know why it is called because this year I visited the Kolkata Book Fair with my uncle. There I saw lots of stalls. The stalls were nicely decorated. They stood in rows. Lots of books were properly shelved in every stall.

My uncle bought me some story books and a book on painting. I also made a long list of books to buy in future. The stalls were crowded with people of all ages. I was thrilled to see that anybody could touch or read any book. I just rushed from one stall to another because I never saw so many books before. When I was returning home I thought, ‘Had I all the books!’

It was the biennial International Book Fair at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. My friends and I decided to visit the fair since the opportunity comes only once in two years.

We reached the gate of the venue as early as 10 a.m. and bought our tickets. There was a long queue of book lovers before the counter and it amazed me that even in this age of e-books there are people who read books.

After the security check, we headed towards the centre of the action – the different halls. On our way, We could see banners of different sizes, with the big publishers occupying the largest stalls. Apart from the local publishers, national and international publishers too featured in the fair.

We visited some of the stalls and were impressed by the huge collection of books which included story books, novels, books on anatomy, medicine and others.

Later on, we visited the other halls and made sure that we dropped in at the stalls of the international participants. There were food stalls too, to offer refreshments, and we relieved our fatigue by sipping hot coffee.

As hours passed by, the number of visitors also increased and it became difficult for us to move about freely within the stalls which were full of book lovers.

It was 8 p.m. when we started our journey back home. We were almost drenched in sweat though it was a January evening. We were happy to carry the heavy bundles of books that we had bought and wished that such book fairs would be held more frequently so that people would be inspired to read more.

Essay On A Visit To The Book Fair

  • Post category: Essay
  • Reading time: 4 mins read

Books are a great source of knowledge. They are our good friends . They provide mental health and entertainment. The knowledge gained by our ancestors, our culture, and our heritage remains with us in the form of books , Book fairs, and libraries help a lot in encouraging the hobby of reading . In our city book fairs are held from time to time. My father always takes me to these book fairs.

Book lovers, readers, booksellers, publishers, and buyers gather in large numbers at the book fairs. Books regarding all subjects are displayed. One can browse the bookstalls and buy books of one’s choice. Seminars, discussions, and interviews of authors are arranged. This helps in the exchange of views.

I happened to visit a big book fair held in our city recently. Publishers and booksellers from all over the country had come to the fair. There were books on various subjects history , geography, science, technology, literature, travel, etc. There were books in all major Indian languages. But Marathi and English books were the major attractions. The booksellers were offering attractive gifts on the purchase of books. My father browsed through many well-known old and new novels. I searched for fiction books. I bought a dictionary and Harry Potter books. My father bought one autobiography and a couple of other books. We bought Panchatantra for my younger sister. The publisher gave us a 20% discount on our purchase.

It was evening now and the fair was overcrowded. Many schoolchildren and elder people visited the fair. My father and I spent almost two to three hours at the fair. We then returned home with much satisfaction.

Paragraph, Essay and Speech on “Visit to a Book Fair” Paragraph for Class 9, Class 10, Class 12 Class and Graduate Exams.

Visit to a Book Fair

A Book Fair was being held in the Town Hall. So one morning our teacher said that we were going to visit it. We cheered loudly for it meant that there would be no lessons for the day.

We lined up outside the classroom. Then we marched in pairs out of the school, up the pedestrian bridge, down the other side of the road and into the Town Hall just a few hundred meters from our school.

At the Town Hall we were told to behave ourselves. If we wanted to buy any book, we were to take it to our teacher. Then we gleefully buried ourselves among the vast number of books on display there.

There were so many books there. It was impossible to look at all of them. So I spent my time browsing mainly among the books on wildlife and nature, my favorite.

As much as the books were wonderful, the price was discouraging. I could not afford to buy any of them. I would have to ask my mother to buy one for me later on.

Time flew. Two hours seemed like two minutes. Soon our teacher told us to assemble at the front door. There she helped those buying books pay at the counter at a special discount. Not many of us bought books. They were too expensive. I did not buy any.

My Visit To A Book Fair

Last year in December we visited the Kolkata Book Fair. My parents and I had a nice time there. A festive mood was floating in the fair. Hundreds of book stalls stood in rows. Thousands of books were in the show. The stalls were beautifully decorated and lighted. There was a large number of men in a merry mood. They were reading, choosing and buying books. I was busy getting the autographs of great writers. Then my bag became fat with books. But my father rather gave a thin smile. His purse was almost empty.

Visiting a book fair

Visiting a book fair was my dream. I had not visited a book fair in my life. Yesterday my father proposed that we should visit the Howrah book fair in the evening. So we went to the book fair. There were so many stalls full of books. All the stalls are in the queue. We entered every stall and read a few lines. We were trying to understand which books should we buy. Finally, I selected five books from the stalls. My father selected a book on astronomy. We paid the bill at the counter. The seller greeted us with a smile. Finally, we returned to our house. It was my first visit to a book fair. I can’t forget it for my life.

A Visit to a Book Fair Essay 150 words

I have visited a book fair once or twice. But my visit to a book fair last Friday was different from the previous visits. We were returning from school. One of my friends suggested entering the book fair. There was no entry fee. So we entered the fair. We were going from one kiosk to another and read new books free of cost. We had not planned the visit earlier. So we didn’t have any money with us. Then a shopkeeper asked for a quiz. He promised that if we could answer all his questions. he would gift us three books.

After some self-introduction, he began his quiz. He asked a lot of questions from a General Knowledge book. We answered almost all the questions. The mob was thickening in the fair. So he decided to finish the quiz. He was very happy to meet us. Though we were unable to answer all his questions, he gave us three GK books as gifts. We were happy too. Finally, were returned home with new books in our bags.

A Visit To A Fair

Essay No. 01

A visit to a fair is very interesting and entertaining. A village fair presents a colorful and lively spectacle. The Baisakhi fair occupies a unique place in the almanac of Indian festivals. It is held on the first day of the month of Baisakhi every year. The harvesting season is over. It marks the advent of summer. The farmers have stored enough grain. They are full of new hopes and new joys. Their granary is full. Even the small farmers have stored enough wheat. Every heart is happy at such a time. The fair is generally held outside the village or town. It is held near some temple or tank. Small shopkeepers and vendors set up their stalls and hand carts. People from neighboring villages throng the place. Young and old, men women, and children in colorful clothes come to see the fair. Hawkers, sweet-meat sellers, and balloon sellers cry their wares at the top of their voices. Somewhere a juggler is seen showing his tricks to the people. Sadhus wearing saffron clothes and beggars carrying bowls in their hands are seen at the fair. Farmers come on foot, in carts, and on camelback. Many people go round the fair. The Red Cross stall draws a big rush. Mike’s announcements about some child lost or found distract the attention of the people. Children enjoy swings and merry-go-rounds. Outside the arena, wrestling tournaments are held in the afternoon. Races and Bhangra dance attract the attention of the people. Everybody seems to be in a merry mood. The Baisakhi fair leaves a long echo behind.

A Visit to the Fair

Fairs are common in our life. They make our life enjoyable. People wait eagerly for them as they enjoy themselves on these days.

Almost all fairs are common in villages, towns, and cities. But in cities, the fairs are much bigger and are held with more pomp and show.

In Delhi, Diwali fairs have become very famous. At every festival, a number of fairs are held in different corners of the city.

This year, I went to see a grand fair held at Ramlila Grounds during Diwali. I went with my parents. We went there by bus.

The bus was packed with people and the roads were unusually busy. People were going in different directions.

At Ramlila grounds, there was a huge crowd of people at the entry itself. One had to get in a queue for the entry tickets. After getting tickets we entered the fair.

It was all very colourful. Two elephants were there at the entrance to welcome the people.

At the fair, there were over 200 stalls of different items. The sweet stalls were overcrowded. People were standing in queue for their turn to come.

The sweet sellers were doing brisk business. My mother wanted to do some shopping, so we went to different stalls which had clothes, utensils, handicrafts, and jewellery.

There was one stall I liked very much. It was full of wooden toys. My father bought me a wooden doll and a soldier.

They were all beautiful and looked real. Children were buying toys, fireworks, and candles. I also bought some candles and fireworks.

Some children were taking free rides on horses and camels. I also enjoyed a ride on the horse. After roaming about, we felt hungry. We had food at the food stall. It was neat and clean. After food, I also had a cold drink.

While coming back, I pleaded with my father to take a ride on the merry-go-round. All of us enjoyed the ride very much. It was good fun.

After the ride, we started at home. It was a day which I thoroughly enjoyed. Fairs are a lot of fun.

A Visit to A Fair

Baisakhi is a popular festival. It falls on the thirteenth of April every year. It marks the end of the winter season. The wheat crop is ready for harvesting. It is a day of joy and amusement for all.

People look forward to this festival. In our town, a fair is held every year on this day. Almost everyone goes to at- tend it. It is held by the temple.

Last year I visited the fair with my parents. On the way, we met people who too were going to attend the fair. They were clad in their best clothes. The children looked happy and gay.

At the fairground, there was hustle and bustle. There were many stalls, which were tastefully decorated. The stall owners were doing a roaring business. There were stalls of different things – snacks, sweets, toys, garments, cosmetics, books, puries and jelabies, drinks and ice cream. People were seen buying things or eating at different stalls, some were drinking hot tea or cold drinks. Children were busy buying balloons. Girls too were busy buying bangles of their choice.

There were many other things to attract and amuse the visitors. There were jugglers, a snake charmer, fortune-tellers and palmists. Children were seen enjoying swings. We also rode on merry-go-rounds.

In a corner, there was a big stage. Cultural programmes were going on there. Many women presented folk dance. Farmers were singing rural songs to the beating of drums. All these things were worth watching. The organizers had also organized wrestling matches. There were policemen to maintain law and order. They also controlled traffic.

It was great fun at the fair. We returned home at 7 p.m. It was an unfortunate visit to the fair.”

Fairs and festivals are very common in India. Fairs let the people get together to make merry, drown differences if any and create better understanding among them. Some fairs last for a few days. In such fairs temporary bazaars and stalls are set up.

Last Sunday I and some of my friends made a plan to visit a fair held in a nearby village, Ramgarh. There is a temple and people worship Goddess Durga there. As fixed we reached the fair at about 10 o’clock. We had enough time, so there was no hurry. First of all we went to the temple, worshipped the Durga, offered prasad and finally started for sight seeing.

The actual fair was a place of great pomp and show. There were shops of general items, toys and sweets all decorated nicely and had irresistible attraction for people of all age groups. We saw huge crowd at almost every shop. Men, women and children in their gaudy dresses, looked veiy busy in doing this or that. There was a great rush outside the temple gate. People were standing in a queue with an earnest desire to have a glimpse of Goddess Durga.

There was hustle and bustle everywhere in the fair. All were enjoying it (the fair) in their own way. Young girls and newly wedded brides were seen busy in buying radiant bangles of various colours and sizes from the bangle-sellers. Newly married ladies made a lot of purchases of cosmetics.

Elderly ladies were not less busy. They were buying goods of household utility. There were hawkers too at several places, all crying in different tones to sell their goods. We were getting amused by their tones and gestures.

The whirling and turling merry-go-rounds with cracking sounds were also a centre of attraction especially for the young children. They were enjoying rides on them. Some people were dancing to the beating of drums. Their folk dance was worth- seeing and we watched it with great happiness.

There were snake-charmers and jugglers too. The rope dancers and magicians were also busy in their different activities. We saw in one corner some foretellers. There was also a great rush. I too wished to go there and know my future. But soon my inner voice prohibited me from doing this and I with my friends moved on. I thought I should not believe in fate but in hard work which alone can bring all success in life.

The whole fair was full of activity. There were some volunteers and scouts who were helping the people in several ways. Some were regulating the traffic; some were providing water to the thirsty while some were engaged in restoring the lost children to their parents. There were good police arrangements to maintain law and order.

In the evening the fair came to an end. People began to return to ‘their homes. We too came back with a nice feeling. The fair is, no doubt, a good source of knowledge about the varied life of our country and we must visit it whenever we have suitable time.

My dear friend,

At first, you take my love. Hopefully, you are doing well. I am fine too. You will be very glad to know that I am just back from a visit to a book fair and can hardly resist the temptation of giving you a short description of it.

You know that books are my first love. Whenever I get the chance, I visit the book fair. This year on February 21 on the occasion of International Language Day a book fair was arranged at Pragati Maidan in Kolkata and continued up to February 28.

I visited the book fair with my parents and younger brother. When I reached the spot at about 3:00 p.m., the place was full of crowds. A vast area was occupied to create the fair. The entire maidan was filled with bookstalls. The stalls are set up on each side of the maidan so that there was an open space in the middle. The stalls were housed in temporary sheds and these were gorgeously decorated.

Many booksellers and publishers turned up here to sell their books related to novels, dramas, stories, science, etc. The spectators came here from all over the locality to busy books and enjoy the book fair. The most crowded, however, are the stalls which offer for sale children’s books. My father purchased some science books, my mother bought some books on cooking. I purchased storybooks for me and “Thakurmar Jhuli” for my younger brother.

We took tiffin from a tea stall at the fair. Cultural functions were held every day at the fair and these were the main attraction of the book fair. After ending our visit we returned home at night. Overall I enjoyed the time while I was roaming the book fair from one stall to another.

I invite you to come to our town and visit the book fair yourself.

With love to you,

Your loving friend,
