What's New for 2019?

A panoramic sunroof becomes standard on all models and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability join the options list; the two connectivity features are part of the free Smartphone Pack package on all 2019 Range Rover models. Those who plan to take off-road excursions with their Range Rover will be happy to know that Land Rover has revised the vehicle's Wade Sensing system to better inform the driver when he or she is fording rivers. An updated adaptive-cruise-control system now comes with active steering assist, which should help drivers when they're on-road. The plug-in hybrid P400e model–originally scheduled to debut for 2019–has been delayed until 2020.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover starts at $90,795 and goes up to $178,795 depending on the trim and options.

The privilege of owning a Range Rover comes with a princely price tag no matter which model you choose, but since it's all about the luxury (isn't it?), we'd go with the more expensive long-wheelbase model. It boasts extra rear-seat legroom and we'd pay to upgrade those rear seats to feature a power reclining feature with heat and ventilation. We'd also select the Drive Pro package, which adds adaptive cruise control with full-speed range, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Likes: Wide range of engine options, ferocious V-8, fantastic off-road capability. Dislikes: High-powered V-8 limited to the most expensive models, tippy handling, brakes are easily overwhelmed by the Range Rover's mass.

The Range Rover has four basic powertrain lineups, each with its own set of strengths and weaknesses: Entry-level models are powered by a supercharged V-6 while top-of-the-line models feature a raucous supercharged V-8; a diesel V-6 is also available. Every Range Rover comes standard with a selectable all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. We don't have recent test numbers for a Range Rover with the standard supercharged V-6 engine; the diesel Range Rover we tested in 2016 delivered passable-but-relaxed acceleration times. The V-8, on the other hand, delivers shocking acceleration runs and even the most committed environmentalists will have to admit it sounds glorious.

Sporty SVAutobiography models do a surprisingly good job of controlling body roll, but fore-aft pitch is a problem across the lineup. It drives well enough if not pressed, but compared for over-the-road agility against high-performance SUVs such as the BMW X5 M and the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 , the Land Rover is downright sloppy. We're willing to forgive some of these handling deficiencies when we consider the Range Rover's off-road abilities, which remain stellar. Most buyers won't ever take it farther afield than a cobblestone road, but it should be comforting to know that if you needed to, you could.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Of the Range Rover's three gasoline powertrains, only one approaches genuine efficiency, and that's the diesel. We've tested three Range Rovers on our 200-mile real-world highway fuel-economy route. A 2016 diesel model returned a respectable 27 mpg but still fell 1 mpg short of its EPA rating, while a pair of 2017s with the supercharged V-8 engine returned 19 mpg (long wheelbase) and 20 (regular wheelbase).

Interior, Infotainment, and Cargo

Likes: Spacious front and rear seats, high-quality materials, high-tech features. Dislikes: Slow-responding infotainment system, weirdly shaped cubbies mean not all items can easily find a home.

Every Range Rover comes standard with leather seats, a heated leather steering wheel, and wood-veneer trim. When you move up into the more expensive versions, that leather is extended to the headliner, the seats add a massaging function, and the carpet that lines the cargo compartment can be swapped for handsomely finished wood. That's to say nothing of the metal armrest-adjustment knobs, satin-brushed metal cupholders, and bottle cooler that come in top-of-the-line SVAutobiography models.

Dubbed InControl Touch Pro Duo, the Range Rover's infotainment system debuted on the smaller Range Rover Velar crossover and has quickly spread throughout the rest of the lineup. Its glossy main screen tilts out from the dashboard when the Range Rover is started up and looks great, but we've noticed a few hiccups and buggy behavior in our long-term Velar test vehicle. The secondary screen, mounted lower on the dashboard, provides access to vehicle settings, climate controls, and driving modes. Some of our editors have complained that it overcomplicates these features and the small buttons are difficult to use when driving. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are optional but adding them costs no additional investment.

The Range's 32 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row may seem impressive, but it's surprisingly near the bottom of its segment. Still, it can accommodate 13 carry-on cases when the back seats are in use, which is more than enough for most four- or five-person families.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Range Rover has never been tested by either of the U.S. crash-test agencies, so we don't have data on how it might perform in a crash. Land Rover offers much of today's most sought after driver-assistance technology but advanced features such as adaptive cruise and lane-keeping assist are still optional—surprising given the Range Rover's price tag. Key safety features include:

• Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
• Standard lane-departure warning
• Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The Range Rover's warranty coverage mostly matches up with the offerings of its luxury competitors, but it doesn't include complimentary scheduled maintenance; competitors such as the X5 M and the Volvo XC90 both include three years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance in the purchase price.

What is the 2019 land rover range rover.

Land Rover's flagship Range Rover SUV seats up to five and uses aluminum construction to save weight.  Buyers have a choice of a gas 340- or 380-horsepower, supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine; a 254-hp, turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V-6 or a 518- or 557-hp, supercharged 5.0-liter V-8. A plug-in hybrid model with an electric-only range of up to 31 miles, according to Land Rover, is new for 2019. All trim levels come with four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Range Rover comes in two sizes, with the long-wheelbase version adding 7.3 inches of rear legroom and limousinelike amenities such as reclining and massaging rear seats. Competitors include the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and Lexus LX 570.

What's New on the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover?

The new HSE P400e plug-in hybrid is offered in standard-wheelbase form with a 296-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine; an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. Total system output is 398 hp. Adaptive cruise control with steering assist and a wade sensing system that provides real-time wading depth information are new options.

What Features in the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Are Most Important?

Though most owners will seldom venture off paved roads, the Range Rover is one of the more capable SUVs available with a sophisticated 4WD system that allows it to go almost anywhere, an adjustable air suspension and the ability to wade through 35 inches of water. The Range Rover also spoils occupants with opulent interior furnishings and a quiet, comfortable ride. An impressive array of safety and driver-assistance features also are available, including parallel and perpendicular parking assist, high-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability.

Should I Buy the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover?

A "base" trim level costs around $90,000, and the top-shelf SVAutobiography trim tops $200,000, so the Range Rover is clearly for high rollers. It is extremely capable on- and off-road and offers a suite of amenities that few vehicles can match, but Land Rover has yet to establish a consistent record for reliability and dependability like competitors such as Lexus; the brand placed last in the most recent J.D. Power dependability index.

Good Performer

Good power, handling, heavy load carrying ability. I'm a big guy and the cabin is a bit tight primarily in width. Driving economy is good considering a Supercharged model giving about 23 MPG on a cross country trip and around 18-19 MPG city. It is enjoyable to drive and gives excellent all around visibility

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover comes in five trims: base, HSE, Supercharged, Autobiography, and SVAutobiography Dynamic. Some of these trims are available in long-wheelbase variants that provide additional rear-seat legroom. Every Range Rover comes with a lot of features, a powerful engine, and legendary off-road ability, so many buyers will do just fine sticking with the base trim.

If you're looking at one of the alternative powertrains – the turbodiesel or the plug-in hybrid – your trim choices are limited. Only the base and HSE trims are available with the turbodiesel, and only the HSE is available as a PHEV.

When new, Land Rover offered a lot of options for the 2019 Range Rover. That means you may be able to find Land Rover Range Rover models with features in addition to those listed here.

• Land Rover Range Rover: The base Range Rover has a 340-horsepower supercharged V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard features include an infotainment system with two 10-inch touch screens, a Meridian audio system, leather upholstery, heated front seats, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, a hands-free power liftgate, and 19-inch wheels. A 254-horsepower turbodiesel V6 is available.
• Land Rover Range Rover HSE: In addition to the base trim’s engine and features, the Range Rover HSE comes with 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, blind spot monitoring, driver drowsiness monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and a surround-view parking camera system. A 380-horsepower V6 engine and the turbodiesel are available, and this is the only trim in which you can get the 398-horsepower plug-in-hybrid powertrain.
• Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged: The Range Rover Supercharged comes with a 518-horsepower supercharged V8 engine, 21-inch wheels, and premium LED headlights.
• Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography: The Range Rover Autobiography features the same V8 engine that comes in the Supercharged. It adds a locking rear differential, an upgraded Terrain Response system, massaging front seats, ventilated front and rear seats, a 29-speaker Meridian audio system, a head-up display, park assist, and quad-zone automatic climate control.
• Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic: The Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic is the range-topping trim and the only one that comes with the 557-horsepower supercharged V8 engine. It includes upgraded styling and comes with nearly all the features you can get in a Range Rover.

What Does Land Rover's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Land Rover offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles five years old or less and with fewer than 60,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. Land Rover offers a one-year/unlimited-mile warranty or a two-year/100,000-mile warranty following the expiration of the four-year/50,000-mile new-car warranty for its certified pre-owned vehicles. Every CPO Land Rover must pass a 165-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing, roadside assistance, and trip interruption benefits may be available.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Alternative Fuels and Charging

For 2019, Land Rover added a plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) model to the Range Rover lineup. The P400e is Land Rover's first plug-in-hybrid powertrain, and it comprises a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that combine to produce 398 horsepower.

Land Rover projects that the PHEV Range Rover has 31 miles of all-electric range. You can activate a Save mode that will conserve electric-motor usage for congested city driving. There's also a Predictive Energy Optimization setting that works with the navigation system to analyze traffic patterns and recharging times to provide optimum efficiency. The P400e gets 19 mpg and 42 MPG-equivalent in combined city/highway driving.

With a 120-volt household-style power outlet, Land Rover says the P400e can get a full charge in about 14 hours, but a 220-volt outlet can drop that time to just two hours and 45 minutes.

Kaylee Goncalves' car was picked up from the Moscow, Idaho, city lot on Thursday. Two Moscow police officers in plain clothes were spotted helping a man start the car and scrape ice off of it.

Attorney Shanon Gray helped a pair of Moscow police officers scrape ice from the windshield and brush away snow on the 2016 Range Rover Evoque that Goncalves excitedly purchased days before her slaying. 

At around 3 p.m., Gray drove off in the silver SUV nearly six weeks after Goncalves was killed in a rental home near the University of Idaho campus.

Kaylee Goncalves, her best friend Madison "Maddie" Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were stabbed to death inside the King Road house between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Nov. 13.

"She just bought a brand-new vehicle for herself, her first vehicle," Kaylee's mother Kristi Goncalves told Fox News' Lawrence Jones last month. "She went home Friday to literally go show off her new vehicle. She was like, ‘Maddie has to see my new ride. Like, she has to see this.’ And she was talking to Maddie the whole time going back and forth between the car she was buying."

The luxury car symbolized the promising future that had awaited Kaylee, who was set to graduate in December, embark on a backpacking trip across Europe in January and start a well-paid marketing job in Austin, Texas, in February.

"She was a hard worker, always having a full time job on top of her studies even in high school," according to her obituary. "Kaylee loved the nicer things in life and took a lot of pride in buying those things for herself." 

Kernodle's blue Honda was picked up from the city lot on Wednesday.

Police have not identified a suspect or recovered the large fixed-blade knife they believe was used in the horrific attack that has left the small college town reeling from grief.

The coroner said the victims were likely ambushed as they slept and each was stabbed multiple times.

Investigators are asking the public for tips to help track down a white 2011 to 2013 Hyundai that was seen near the crime scene in the early morning hours of Nov. 13.

What we know about the 4 Idaho college students found dead in an off-campus home

MOSCOW, Idaho — The killings of four University of Idaho students Sunday elicited shock and sadness on campus, in the college city of Moscow, Idaho, and beyond.

The victims were Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, who became fast friends in the 6th grade; Ethan Chapin, a triplet from Washington state known for his love of sports and his sense of humor; and Xana Kernodle, a marketing major whose family recalled her positive and light-hearted personality. 

The four were found slain at a home off-campus. A suspect has not been arrested. Moscow police said they don't believe there is an ongoing threat, and that “evidence indicates that this was a targeted attack.”

Goncalves, Mogen and Kernodle lived together at the home, according to Ellie McKnight, their neighbor and a friend of Chapin's at the University of Idaho.

Here is what we know about the victims:

Kaylee Goncalves, 21

Kaylee Goncalves, of Rathdrum, a city close to Coeur d’Alene, was “the ultimate go-getter,” her sister, Alivea Goncalves, told NBC’s “TODAY” in an interview.

She was a senior majoring in general studies in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, and was in the Alpha Phi sorority, the university has said.

Goncalves and Mogen had been friends since middle school, and members of both families treated them as one of their own. The Goncalves’ took Mogen with them on cruises, and vice versa.

“We’re all sisters — and Kaylee and Maddie were, especially,” Alivea Goncalves said.

“They did everything together,” Alivea Goncalves, said. “They fought like sisters, they loved like sisters, they shared clothes and fought over the clothes they shared like sisters.”

Kaylee Goncalves had recently bought a 2016 Range Rover, she planned a trip to Europe for next year, and planned to move, probably to Texas, also next year, her sister said.

“She had everything going for her, absolutely everything,” her sister said. “She had her job lined up. She had worked really hard for it, she just bought a new car, she had trips planned.”

Madison Mogen, 21

Mogen, of Coeur d’Alene, was a senior majoring in marketing and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, the university said.

“I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to be the main character in all my childhood stories,” Kaylee Goncalves wrote on Instagram in May to wish her Maddie a happy 21st birthday. A slideshow showed them grow up from young girls to the college students they were.

"I love you more than life! My best friend forever and more," Mogen replied, with a heart emoji.

Mogen planned to move to Boise after graduating this spring, family friend Jessie Frost told the Idaho Statesman newspaper .

Mogen also worked with Kernodle at a restaurant, and Mogen helped run the business’ social media pages, the newspaper reported. The restaurant, the Mad Greek, posted on Facebook that the two women "brought so much joy to our restaurant and all of those they encountered."

Ethan Chapin, 20

Chapin was a freshman from Mount Vernon, Washington, a city in Skagit County north of Seattle.

He majored in recreation, sport and tourism management, and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, according to the University of Idaho.

Chapin had just turned 20, and was a triplet, his parents, Stacy and Jim Chapin, told NBC affiliate KING of Seattle .

“Everything we do, is all of us, together,” Stacy Chapin told the station. “We’re a pretty tight family.”

Chapin and his siblings were athletic, and among the sports he played was club soccer for years, his parents said. He was funny and loved country music, they said. "He literally lit up every room," his mother told KING.

He also was in a relationship with Kernodle, and the two had been dating since the spring, McKnight said.

In an Oct. 29 Instagram post, Kernodle wished Chapin a happy birthday and said life was "so much better with you in it."

Xana Kernodle, 20

Kernodle, of Post Falls, Idaho, was a junior majoring in marketing, and she was also in Pi Beta Phi sorority, the university said.

“I am lucky to have had her as a sister,” her sister, Jazzmin Kernodle, said in a statement.

Jazzmin Kernodle recalled her sister as someone who was so positive and light-hearted she "always lifted up a room." The family is at a loss for words, and are waiting to find out more from the investigation.

“Our hearts go out to Kaylee, Maddie and Ethan and all their families as well. They were all amazing people, and were loved so much,” she said. “My sister was so lucky to have them in her life.”
