Essay on Our Local Market

We have a small market near our house it is our local market. Though it is not very big, one can buy almost everything there.

The marketplace is always crowded. The shops are mostly small in size. Some shops sell fruits and dairy products, some sell groceries, some sell fish, some sell utensils, some sell gift items and stationery. One can also find shops selling electronic goods. There are shops for repairing damaged things also.

In the middle of the market, there is a big medical store. It has all kinds of medicines available.

There is also a nice bakery shop just outside the market. It sells delicious cakes and cookies. I love to go to the market as my mother busy me goodies like candies and cakes.

My mother goes twice a week to the market to buy various things.

This local market has made our lives very easy as all day-to-day items are available at a comfortable distance. The shopkeepers are honest and sell quality products at reasonable prices.

Moreover, shopping in the absence of friends could be a boring activity to do. Therefore, going with your friends for shopping is a prudent approach.

The biggest difference between shopping alone or with friends is that in the first scenario the whole process does not take much time however in the latter case it takes much time because while shopping with friends other activities too take place.

3. What are the disadvantages of shopping in a big mall?

The biggest drawback is that the products and services are overpriced as compared to local shops. Because the shops inside the malls pay hefty rents , and they have to do a lot of investment in infrastructure. Ultimately they recover all these costs from their customers, by raising the prices of products. Apart from this, usually, these malls are on the outskirts of the city . So quality time goes to waste while visiting these big malls.

4. Why do people like to buy branded products?

People buy branded products because a large section of society believes that branded products are more durable, safe, and long-lasting than local products. Big brands do a lot of research in improving the quality of their products. Moreover, in case of any issue their customer care team helps you to rectify the problem

5. In your opinion are big discounts real or just an advertisement?

Huge discounts are real in most cases because they usually come because of season or change in demand. For example, at the end of the summer season, most of the clothing companies offer discounts of as high as 70 per cent on their garments. Similarly, mobile companies too, offer a huge discount on their old phones whenever they come out with a new model of the same phone.

Clichés provide conventional ways of describing things, but they don’t tell the reader anything about your unique perspective on what you’re describing.

Try looking over your sentences to find places where a different word would convey your impression more precisely or vividly. Using a thesaurus can help you find alternative word choices.

In other words, the reader is able to easily understand why she or he is reading the essay, the place the essay will describe, and what the purpose of the description is. This is accomplished by organizing the essay into and introduction, body and conclusion.

Introduction: A captivating hook

The opening of your essay is one of the most important parts because it interests readers. Start with a captivating introductory paragraph. One way to do this is by using anecdotes to grab readers’ attention. Anecdotes are short stories that can be used literally or metaphorically to help readers relate to what you’re going to write about.

For example, an anecdote that opens an essay with descriptive words about what it’s like to be working in the middle of busy production factory might read:

“Imagine every appliance in your house is turned on—your vacuum cleaner, your blender, your fans—and imagine on top of all that, you hear airplanes and helicopters flying overhead and cars buzzing by outside. Meanwhile, you’re trying to focus on your tasks…”

This type of anecdote accomplishes two key things: First, it engages the reader and helps them personally relate to your essay by asking them to imagine. Second, it immediately clarifies the type of place you’re going to write about.

Build your essay with strong imagery. Capture the time, date, weather, and mood of the place.

The introduction paragraph should end by explaining the place the rest of the essay is going to describe and why. This includes any key setting logistics like time, specific location, and who’s involved.

Body: Full of specifics and adjectives

Anecdotes are also helpful in the body paragraphs of a descriptive essay, for the same reasons noted above. The body of a great descriptive essay about a place should be packed full of vivid, sensory language. During the body of a descriptive essay, the reader gains a clear image and understanding of the place being described, as if he or she were actually there. To accomplish this, the body paragraphs use descriptive adjectives and colorful phrases such as, “The chaotic, clashing noise was deafening,” or, “The scent of freshly fallen rain cleansed the sunlit air, and I could see the horizon for miles.”

Use one or two strong adjectives to convey descriptions in your sentences. This creates a flow throughout the entire essay. Be sure to note, not every sentence requires an adjective or adverb.

If you’re having trouble with finding adjectives and adverbs, use strong action verbs instead.

Conclusion: Reminding readers of the meaning

Just as the introduction of a descriptive essay previews what place will be written about and why, the conclusion reminds readers of what was just described and why it’s important. The key is to not sound redundant. For instance, while the introductory paragraph hooks readers and then tells them what they can expect to read, the conclusion summarizes what was written and leaves readers with thought-provoking ideas to consider, helping them to understand how the essay may relate to their lives, or why it’s important to the reader.

Revisiting the production factory introduction example, the same essay’s conclusion may summarize with a statement highlighting the essay’s takeaways, such as, “The chaos and noise of the factory made it difficult to focus, but after working there for five years, I learned how to overcome that challenge. Now I can focus in even the most noisy of places.”

Steps to writing a great descriptive essay

1) choose a topic.

Depending on the purpose of your descriptive essay assignment, you may have varying flexibility in terms of what place you can choose to write about. Nonetheless, try to choose a topic that vividly stands out in your memory. The more you can remember about a place and how it felt, the better your descriptive paper is likely to be. For example, if you’re assignment asks you to write about a place you’ve traveled to, what destination comes to mind first? Perhaps it’s a foreign country. Or, if you haven’t traveled much, it could even be a different town.

2) Observe the details

If you’re writing about a place you’re currently at or can easily visit, spend time observing the details. Watch what the scenery looks like, including colors and objects. What sounds do you hear? What’s the temperature? What scents do you notice? How do you feel being there? All these questions will help guide your descriptive flow writing process (step six).

If you’re writing about a place you visited in the past, ask yourself the same questions. Perhaps look at old photos to jog your memory. Finally, if you’re asked to describe a place you’ve never been, use your imagination to answer similar questions. The more time you take to list details about what your place feels like, the easier the next steps will be.

3) Understand why your place is important

Ask yourself why you think it is important to share this with your readers. Having a clear understanding of your essays’ importance will not only help you write your introduction and conclusion, but it will also help you stay focused on describing the details that matter most.

4) Outline and organize your writing

Now it’s time to begin the actual descriptive writing process by organizing your ideas into an outline . Your outline doesn’t have to be formal; just a simple numbered list of points to include in your introduction, body and conclusion will suffice. This will guide your writing process and keep you focused.

5) Start with the introduction

Remember step number one and three, “your topic ” and “why your place is important?” Those are the two main highlights you’ll want to make clear in your introductory paragraph. When writing your introduction, be sure it explains what you’re about to describe and why you’re going to write about it.

6) Write the body in free-flow style

The body paragraph of your essay can sometimes be the most difficult part, depending on length, a great way to start is by free-flow writing. This means that you simply start writing your detailed description of the place you’re writing about, without editing or analyzing as you write. This often helps to overcome writer’s block while making sure that all the critical details you jotted down in step two, “observe the details,” get down on paper and into the body of your essay. You’ll be able to go back later and edit the body of your paper for organization, flow and grammar. As long as you start your free-flow within the bullet points of the outline you created, the process will be relatively simple and easy.

7) Revise the body of your essay

Now it’s time to go back and be sure all the free-flow writing you just did is clear, makes sense and follows your original outline. You may need to re-arrange a few sentences or even paragraphs. This is also a great time to check for spelling and grammar errors.

Next, read the body paragraph of your essay and pretend you’re someone else reading it for the first time. How does it sound? Does it make sense and flow? If not, ask yourself what would make your descriptions more understandable for the reader. Finally, remember that not every sentence of your descriptive essay needs to sound fancy, artistic, or be long. Vary your sentence length, breaking up long sentences with short sentences to make reading easier. Use exciting language, but don’t over-do it or adjectives will lose their power.

8) Finish your essay strong

Writing a strong conclusion is key to leaving a lasting impression with your readers. Body Paragraph 3

• Topic Sentence - The beach is ideal just to relax, destress, and take it easy. 
• Sensory information - To relax as you are massaged by either human hands or the sun is a pleasure. Lazing around might be frowned upon, but the beach is the ideal place to spend some time taking care of yourself and letting the stresses of the world melt away.
• Physical description - Whether it’s reading a book, or enjoying a refreshing beverage with umbrellas in it, you can get taken care of on the beach. Building sandcastles, painting, and meditating are other activities easily and freely enjoyed. 
• Transition sentence - The beach has so much to offer.

• Restate the thesis - That’s the main reason that a beach is the ideal vacation spot, it allows for diverse ways of having fun.

The farmers markets, which are often organized as non-commercial organizations, play an important role in the emerging of the alternative food network. The impact of these organizations on the development of the food network partially can be explained by the processes of the regional clustering 1 .

The farmers market in this particular case fulfils the function of the food distribution from the agricultural to the urban environment. With the rapid growth of the urban population, the need for the food supply is constantly increasing. At the same time, many products are produced in the suburban areas.

Together they form the chain that plays an important role in the food supply.

“Allegedly the tradition of direct agricultural markets was brought to North America from Europe and spread across the continent with European settlement” 2

The first reported case of the farmers market appearance in America took place in the seventeenth century. However, the real boom of the farmers markets was observed beginning from the 1970. The existing popularity of this AFN may be explained by many factors.

These are not only the producers wish for the attaining benefits and the consumers interest in the fresh foods, but also the specific friendly atmosphere on the farmers market. The importance of this sphere for the American food system can hardly be overestimated.

The benefits of the farmers market are obvious as for the consumers as well as for the farmers. The consumers are attracted by the fresh and healthy products, and by the great variety of them, as compared with the supermarket chain.

Qazi and Selfa in their research found out that the major part of the customers were attracted by the freshness of the products and by the great possibility of choice, rather than money economy. 4

At the same time, it must be admitted that there are several definite problems with which the producers of the agricultural products face. Industrialization is one of them.

Historically the structure of agriculture in America was organized on the basis of the hereditary system which was “a powerful and effective form of economic organization” 5 . Such a structure was not only the basis of the economic wealth, but also the “important social and political value to the development of our nation”. 6

Last time, there is a tendency for changing of this agricultural structure. In the present time, the circumstances force farmers to increase the output of the production. It leads to the industrialization and the commercialization of the agricultural structure.

According to the statistic research the amount of farms are constantly decreasing. Such a tendency constitutes a menace to the existing of the farmers markets.

The problem is not only in reducing the amount of farms. At the present day, a great deal of farmers in order to be competitive use the modern technologies. The industrialization of the agricultural sector often leads to the usage of the genetic engineering in farming.

Many researches state that the industrialization possesses a definite threat to farming. In spite the fact that the influence of it on the global economy of the country is doubtful, Hamilton proposes several ways to sustain it at least in the agricultural sphere.

First, it is necessary to reignite the debate over the industrialization 7 in order the society to understand all its consequences. Secondly, it is necessary to regulate some economic relations, such as the use of the contract production in the cattle breeding.

Moreover, there must be implemented a certain regulatory environment for the farmers protection.

In spite all these negative factors, it is necessary to mention some positive events in the sphere of the farming. Not so long ago, there appeared several farming independent organizations such as the American Farm Bureau Federation, or the National Corn Growers Association.

Though the tendency for the industrialization of the agricultural field is still high, the consumers’ interest for the fresh agrarian products does not subside. With the development of the industrialization, the price for the natural products becomes a less significant factor for the consumer.

The interest to this AFN will promote the appearance of the new markets.

Essay on A Busy Market Scene in English

A market is a place where a large number of people assemble for the act of buying and selling. Nowadays the whole world has become like a huge market. But the idea of market being a place still holds good. In big cities, markets are generally localized and specialized. There are cloth markets, the electronic goods market, motor parts market, fruit and vegetable markets, cattle market and so on.

The main markets in Karachi are Saddar Empress Market, Bohri Bazar, Jama Cloth Market, Khori Garden Hardware Market, Jodhia Bazar, Lee Market and Boulton Market. Some famous shopping centers are Tariq Road, Hydri, Paposh, Clifton, Emporium and Saddar is the biggest Centre. You can buy all kinds of goods, commodities and wares from the shops and multiple stores. It presents a busy scene throughout the day. But in the evenings there is a heavy rush of customers, pedestrians and sight-seers.

Some young people simply come to warm their eyes and rub their shoulders with ladies. One of the unique future of Karachi markets is the presence of large number of ladies in fascinating dresses. Men have to loosen their purses only. During shopping sprees-heavy buying and selling at the time of festivals, the shops are open for twenty-four hours. There are generally more attractions and allurements than the money in your purses.

Eid was drawing near. My brothers and sisters insisted to visit the Saddar market. It was evening time. There were unending lines of buses, mines and cars on the streets. In spite of being ‘no- horns’ area, our ears were deafened by the sounds of horns. There were streams of people on the footpaths and the narrow lanes of Bohri Bazar. People of all ranks high and low, fashionable and ill-clad rubbed their shoulders. Due to heavy traffic, it was rather difficult to cross the roads.

The shops were full of customers. After some jostling and elbowing, I pushed my way into Fashion Garments. Clothes of various designs and sizes were scattered all over the counters and floor. Some Ladies were busy in arguing and haggling: It was all rich men’s show. We finished the buying and picked up the packets and made the payment. Suddenly a gentleman howled. “My purse”, He was relieved by some pick-pocket. He had still to make the payment. Anyhow; he borrowed the money from his friend and saved his face.

Our car was parked far away from the busy scene. We stepped on the road. I had to force my way through an unending line of cars. Some fool spit pan from a car. My trousers were spoiled. I cursed the new upstart. In the rush, my small brother was lost. We searched round. He was found enjoying ice-cream cone at a footpath vendor. The funny slogans of the hawkers attracted the children. It looks about twenty minutes to reach our car. When we reached home, the clock truck nine hours.

It was past 5:30pm and was almost getting dark. We had run down like hooligans which made us breath so heavily after we arrived. All the stalls were open now, lit with their lanterns, lamps and hanging bulbs that attracted a lot of mosquitoes and other flying insects. There were lots of pigeons on top of the opposite building and you could hear the constant cawing of the crows. We stood at the edge of the left hand side road as people passed by. The noises were very loud; people talking in all sorts of languages, the daily noise of traffic, constant horns of cars and buses. Both of us were a bit dazed with what we were actually sent down for and got back to work as it hit us.

First we walked by a women in an old yellow sari who was sitting on her plain mat on which she had laid out all her vegetables. She shooed the flies every now and then which sat on her vegetables. We glared at the list in my hand that read “4 good tomatoes and potatoes”. We hardly searched for the good ones the women was already set to it and asked us how many. Her hands were dark and wrinkly as you could see the faintly visible tattoo on her arm which kept reappearing as she picked out the best potatoes and tomatoes. She handed us the blue plastic bag in which she had just put the vegetables in. She smiled and you could see her wrinkly face twist and her broken brown teeth glow.

We passed a couple of stalls this time; vegetables, fruits. We were told to look for the one with the number 4 on it and so we did. There it was before us his standing one man shop. He was selling fruits; bananas, mangoes and oranges in particular. We told him we wanted 6 oranges and a bunch of bananas. He went right to it wearing a white shirt and grey pants and slippers, he assembled the items and put them in a bag which was re-checked by a younger boy who was probably about 10 years old, wearing shorts a shirt and some slippers. He asked us if we were from here…we lied and quickly carried on ignoring his talk from behind.

It was getting darker already and the sky had changed its colour course from bright light to murky blue. It was getting late and the noise was getting louder. People passed, cars honked, the temple bells rang, and it was all very busy. We crossed the road which was more like hop, skip, and jump. Women from each stall called out to us this time “Bhenji, Bhenji…Ah! Lardki”, they all sounded alike as though it was some sort of rehearsed routine.

We went to the women in the green sari. The corns that she sold were supposedly the best. We told her to pack 5 yellow sweet corns and she did. There were 2 other people beside us waiting for their corn to be cooked, which was kept on the coal which was balancing on the pieces of wood. She fanned the corn and the coal changed colour to lava every time and then went back to black. The corn burst, making a pop sound every time and its colour yellow was now changed to black .After that was done she would change over every time to get the next side popping to black. She talked with her neighbouring corn sellers and they laughed at jokes. They all wore saris and had their hair tied up in buns or plats. They all wore either bangles, chain or a “piyal” (anklet).They all seemed to have tattoos on the arms, mostly written in Hindi script.

We got our things and crossed the road once again. The overall noise was not getting any softer and the amount of people that came by also increased. The shop lights were switched on all around and the traffic and noise pollution had also increased. The puddles on the road had got my feet dirty and I was going to take a shower. We started to walk and it started raining out of the bloom and there it was. People got out their umbrellas, started covering their stalls, put on their wind-sheeters, ran towards shelter and everything had changed within a second. All The stalls were now covered with what they could manage and all the flies had settled on their food. They all had sheets of blue plastic that covered up their tiny stalls and themselves. The rain was heavy and people had drifted apart and the raging sounds of the rains could be heard everywhere.

Shopping has a pleasure of its own. The modern man is always busy in buying and selling. A market is, therefore, always very busy, overcrowded, and interesting. I visit the market is, therefore, always very busy, overcrowded and interesting. I visit the market almost every day to cater to the various needs of the household. In the market, there is a lot of hustle and bustle. People, rich or poor, young or old, come to make purchases. The market presents a miniature image of the whole city. On one side of the market, there are fruit and vegetable shops; on the other side people deal in clothes, utensils, crockery, toys, sweets, cutlery, stationery, etc.  There are also refreshment stalls where people have either cold drinks or cups, of hot tea. People move about to and fro. They haggle and haggle with the shopkeepers to charge reasonable prices. Customers are afraid of pick-pockets. Some persons sell articles on the footpaths, while others in the wooden stalls. A market satisfies the needs of the customers. Ladies can be seen more in number than men because shopping is basically a feminine occupation. Beggars are a painful sight in a market. Stray dogs also meet our eyes. On the whole, a market scene is worth seeing. It provides a glimpse of the people from different backgrounds.

I had heard that a fish market is the noisiest place in the world. But last Saturday, when I visited the local vegetable market, I felt that probably the expression “fish market” contained half-truth only. Perhaps it was the vegetable market which was the noisiest place in the world. I felt that it was like out-Heroding Herod in its own way.

It was not only the noise that was so conspicuous but perhaps the mud, filth, and stench there broke all limits of decency and human tolerance. I wondered the fortuitous stamina of those who worked there and no less of those who went to purchase vegetables from there.

I, however, realized that just as I was compelled by circumstances to go there, others might also be sailing in the same boat of constraint and compulsion.

Actually, as if coincidentally, a horde of rough-mannered, thick-skinned guests descended in our house that day without my prior intimation. All of them had their separate tastes and demands and it was certain that they would create an infernal state in our house if their demands were not met.

I could not depend entirely on my servant. I took him with me and ordered him to carry a few bags with him.

Both my servant and I landed ourselves in the filthy miasma of the place called a vegetable market. We contacted different vendors and rehari wallas. We haggled with them over rates.

Finally, we filled our bags and sacks with carrots, radishes, turnips, peas, cabbages, cauliflowers, green chilies — indeed; whatever we could lay hands on at a reasonable rate. We hired a rickshaw and returned home. We unloaded our luggage in front of our mother and before our shameless guests who just smiled and gesticulated, getting a savage pleasure out of my fate. But I thanked God I hadn’t got an infectious or a skin disease like scabies, eczema, bronchitis, cough, pneumonia, or asthma while slogging through the rotten vegetables.

A marketplace is the place spread out in a specific area, where a variety of goods of daily requirements are available for purchase b customers. There are an umpteen number of markets that cater to the daily requirements of the public, and they are placed close to residential areas for the convenience of the customers.

 I had heard a lot about a market called Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi but had never seen it. Once this year, in the month of October, on the occasion of my sister’s marriage, when my mother was going to Chandni Chowk for shopping I insisted that I would also like to accompany her. My mother and even my sister tried their best to dissuade me from going but, I insisted. They even told me that there would be too much crowd and that a child of my size may get suffocated there. However, I heard none of their comments and pleas but insisted on accompanying them. We started on our journey from Vasant Kunj and even when we were just halfway through, my patience gave way as the distance was forbidding. Nothing could be done in the matter now, and I had to keep quiet as I had myself put the suggestion and locked a noose round my neck. After about one and a half hours on the road, we finally reached the much talked of the market – Chandni Chowk – the biggest and oldest market of Delhi.

 What I saw in this market in the first place was a sea of men rushing up and down everywhere on all the roads. It appeared as though all the people were just rushing to some very important mission to and fro on the roads. The sight of the crowd the one of the like I had never seen before just frightened me out of my wits, and, I already started why I opted to come here. As we proceeded to wander towards the shops yes, I was really impressed. There, all yes all items of consumer needs could be seen in plenty but all the shops were just too crowded.

 Since we had gone there for shopping for my sister s marriage we also had to wade through the crowd and do our work. First, we went to a jewellery shop. The sight of that long road full of jewellery shops on both sides of the road took me by surprise. I had never imagined that such an expensive item like jewellery was also available in dozens of shops and, each shop was crowded with customers. I came to know that, this road dotted with shops of jewellery was called Dariba Kalan , and all the shops here were decades old. Here we sat for almost an hour in the shop where Mummy had ordered some items and thus for a while, got some relief from the pushing and jostling on the crowded roads.

After our work here, I was once again a bit fresh and now we moved to saree shops where we had to make bulk purchases for my sister and gifting to friends and relatives Oh my God what a shock awaited me here. So many narrow lanes were emerging from the main road and leading to huge saree shops with stocks of thousands of sarees. Sarees of golden work called zari were just glittering in those tiny shops. Here in these lanes, I think we spent nearly three Hours peeping into one shop and then another, and making selections of sarees. This part of the market was not even visible from the main road but, it appeared to be an of important business center having brisk sales. I was absolutely dazed to see huge stocks piled up in each of these tiny shops. All salesmen in each and every shop were busy catching customers. I noticed that most women would come to a shop, see a few sarees, and just go away, while some others were other making purchases of thousands of rupees. The sale was rather brisk considering that the items bought were far too expensive. Seeing the fast movement of customers in and out of the shops, I asked one of the shopkeepers if this was the situation prevailing every day. To this, the reply was the obvious one that, these days the sale is more than usual because this period of the year was the marriage season, and the festival season is also round the corner. This reasoning did convince me to some extent but I still continued to wonder how much crowd there could be daily. This I thought because I am told that this market is forever congested, all the year-round, only becoming unmanageably crowded on occasions like marriages and festivals.

After having bought a lot of sarees, I don’t know how many, we finally got up from the shop to get out – and believe me, we forget our way out, and got lost in those tiny congested lanes and by-lanes. Finally, we had to ask someone to guide us to the main road. Here on the main road we again saw a row of big shops of all kinds of items and all full to the brim. Next, we were told that there are several other markets branching out from this main road of Chandi Chowk. All these other roads specialise in special items and are wholesale dealers. An entire lot of these markets branching off from the main road of Chandni Chowk is altogether called Chandi Chowk. Special shops for clothes, stationery, grains, etc. are offshoots of this main road. Since we had no other work, now we went out to the car, which again was a long walk through a crowd.

 This visit to Chandni Chowk has been my first experience. The wading slowly through thick crowds, the shops full of items of daily consumption, the different markets for different items did impress me. Though it was a tiring day but a wonderful shopping experience. This was my most interesting visit to a market of repute in Delhi.

It was around Diwali. We wanted to buy clothes, Diwali lights, and many other items. Chandni Chowk is famous for such items. My mother asked me to join her and see myself what this famous market is like. My mother and I went to Chandni Chowk. It is near the Red Fort in Old Delhi. There were a lot of crowds. Everyone was pushing each other. There were traffic jams and the vehicles were blowing their horns. Street vendors were selling various items which were very cheap. They were shouting on top of their voice to solicit the customers for their wares. Many customers were bargaining with the shopkeepers. Some poor beggars were asking for food and money. We went to a shop, where my mother bought a saree and a suit for me. She bought some artificial jewelry for me. We also bought some sweets from the famous shop of Ghantewala. From the Electrical Market, we bought Diwali lights and electric iron. I also bought some CDs of famous music albums and a video game for my brother. We were all tired after shopping. We took a cold drink to refresh ourselves. Thereafter we returned home. I enjoyed the shopping very much, although the market was very crowded.

A market place is a very busy place where people go to buy articles of their needs. It is a centre of attraction for both buyers and sellers. There is no other place in the area having so much brisk business as the market.

I always find a big crowd there. There are several shops, all decorated beautifully. Big shops look more attractive. Businessmen come here from far and wide for purchasing or selling their products. The market is always crowded with carts, horses, donkeys and camels. They come loaded with the produce of the season such as cotton, grain, oil seeds, vegetables, etc.

Whenever I visit a market I find the hawkers shouting loudly to sell their goods. They try to attract the people by several names. Generally they sing songs in praise of their goods. They face hard competition because there are several hawkers selling the same article.

As the prices of the items are not fixed, the hawkers as well as the buyers do bargain. I watch these people who feel greatly satisfied after purchasing a thing at a minimum price from the hawkers.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The market is at peak in the evening. There is not a single shop where a big crowd is not seen. Everyone seems to be in hurry. There are jewellery shops which shine brightly in the light. Cloth shops and ready-made garment shops do great business during a festival.

The hotels and restaurants are also crowded with people. Some people are seen with plates of ‘chat’ others are seen enjoying cold drinks. There is flavour of all kinds in the surrounding area. It is very difficult to drive a car in a market place.

What to talk of a car or a motorcycle sometimes it becomes difficult even to walk. On the occasion of festivals like Diwali, Dussehra and Holi the situation becomes worse. It seems all the population of the country is on the road. There is great hustle and bustle. In between the cars and motorcycles, we see those carrying different articles for sale. They create great problems as sometimes they bring the traffic at a halt resulting in loud horns from the car-drivers.

The market is really a very noisy place. One can meet all sorts of people there. There is joy and laughter on all sides. Friends welcome one another and enjoy fast foods. Some people are seen discussing politics in the light of their business.

Our markets are quite different from the markets of the western advanced countries. Our markets present a rural glimpse and fill us with a feeling that we belong to India whose soul lies in villages. It is really very pleasant to move in a market, particularly in the evening.

I always welcome those moments when I visit the market for this purpose or that. It is a place where one can see the life in so many colours. One can get valuable experiences too by visiting market and buying different commodities.

When starting a company, it is important to determine who your potential customers are and what their needs look like. You must get a handle on the market. Who are your main competitors and what could you do better or differently? Writing a market description is a good way to place your product appropriately. Potential investors and customers will garner a better sense of how your product fits into its target market. Although you may have other instances where you need to write a market description, the most common is as part of a general business plan .

Doing Market Research

• Before writing a market description, be aware of the “iceberg principle.” The majority of the iceberg is underwater. This represents your research time and spent energy. Only the tip is visible. • For example, let's say you are starting a high-end laundering service. Your customers could be professional workers with high amounts of disposable income. Only two businesses exist for a population of 125,000 people and they are both located in the same neighborhood. A Visit to the Market

I love going to market, so yesterday when my mother told me to get her some eggs and other groceries, I obeyed gladly. Picking up a bag and some money, I cycled down to the nearest market. It was modest in size but catered to the daily needs of the people living close by.

As usual, there was a lot of activity going on in the shops, and the hawkers seemed to be doing good business too. I bought some chilli powder and a tin of cooking oil from the grocery store, then went to the chemist’s shop to buy my father’s medicine.

Thinking that I would leave the purchase of eggs for the end, I walked into the sweet-seller’s shop where a wonderful, rich aroma assailed my nostrils. I could not resist buying some hot jalebis which I devoured greedily. Then, wiping my sticky hands on my skirt, I went to the dairy shop and bought a packet of milk and a dozen eggs. Putting them carefully in my bag I came out to find that a man had settled down on the ground with his wares displayed on a sheet. He begged me earnestly to buy something from his colourful assortment of handkerchiefs, ribbons, soap-dishes and packets of safety-pins. I admired his goods but said I would come another day.

Picking up my bicycle from the end of the road, where I had parked it along with a whole lot of others, I hung my shopping bag over the handle and cycled home. I returned the left-over change to my mother, who jokingly remarked that since I had eaten jalebis my stomach must be full, so she needn’t cook any dinner for me.

Novopodrezkovo Flea Market

On a busy day, this immense flea market hosts around 4,000 to 6,000 traders. Less well-known than its smaller brother, Izmailovsky, it has remained very much a typically Muscovite haunt and a local favorite. This means that Novopodrezkovo is virtually untainted by hiked-up tourist prices or manufactured souvenirs. For those lucky few foreigners in on the secret of Novopodrezkovo, there are bargains aplenty to be found. However, a visit to Novopodrezkovo is always a gamble: offerings can range from moth-eaten clothes and rusty tools to haute-couture and fabulous antiques. Fight through the hundreds of babushka laying out their Soviet-era wares to find some real treasures. Formerly located in the city center, the market has been moved a little further from the city and is open on weekends. Hop on the train to Novopodrezkovo at Moscow’s Leningradsky railway station or catch bus 370 from the Rechnoy Vokzal metro station to find the market by Novopodrezkovo station.

Bloshiny Rynok

For antique fanatics visiting Russia , Bloshiny Rynok is the place to come. Nowhere else in Moscow are there so many pre-Revolutionary items all jumbled together in one fascinating place. Towering piles of bargain electronic goods fill this former television factory. An excellent spot to pick up second hand CDs, DVDs, video games, the Gorbushka market also sells electronic goods and household appliances, all at astonishingly low prices. The mind-boggling range of films, albums, and vintage vinyls means that, no matter your taste, you’ll be sure to find something at Gorbushka. The market’s origins lie in the park near the Gorbunov Palace of Culture. The park acted as a meeting ground for film and music enthusiasts who would come and swap records, but its immense popularity and rapid growth meant that the market had to move, eventually settling in a spacious warehouse by Bagrationovskaya metro station.

Sevastopol Hotel

An ethnic paradise, the exotic wares at this market inside the Sevastopol Hotel hail from India , Pakistan , and Afghanistan to name but a few.
