NEW DELHI: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has invited applications for admission to PhD, MPhil, integrated MPhil PhD programmes for the 2021-22 session. The last date for submission of the online application is February 15, 2022. Candidates can apply by visiting BHU’s entrance test portal bhuonline.in.

BHU online application process requirements

Candidates are required to have an e-mail ID, mobile number, access to a computer with internet connectivity, printer and scanner, recent passport size colour photograph and signature, which should be in "jpeg" format, not exceeding 100KB. Candidates are also required to have access to any of the online payment services like net banking, credit card or debit card. If not, candidates can pay through challan through any branch of HDFC bank.

How to fill BHU online application

The BHU online application form can be filled out and submitted by following the steps below:

Candidates should first register on the BHU entrance test portal at bhuonline.in for the online application process.

Select the particular programme to enrol as per choice

Fill up the details in the application form in fields that appear on the screen

On the review page that appears, press the 'confirm' button to submit if the details are correct. If not, edit the details before confirming submission.

Pay fees, submit the application.

BHU PhD Admission 2024-25: Banaras Hindu University Admission for the academic session 2024-25 will soon start the PhD admission 2024-25 session. BHU PhD Admission will be based on the Entrance exams like RET and NTA PhD. Earlier, BHU only considered RET scores for PhD, But from this year, the university will also taking the BHU PhD Admission 2024 through the NTA PhD test. BHU PhD Admission 2024-25 last date is 22 September 2024 *. Students can register online at @bhu.ac.in with a registration fee of INR 800 . Candidates who are willing to pursue their Ph.D. degree programme from BHU must ensure to register before the last date by visiting the official website of NTA. The candidates need to appear in the BHU Ph.D. Entrance Exams, any candidate who fails to show up for the entrance exams will not be considered eligible for the BHU Ph.D. Admission.

The entrance examination for BHU PhD Admission 2024-25 is scheduled to be conducted on 26, 27, 30, and 31 October 2024* . Students who have registered must appear for the entrance examination as per their shift which will soon be announced by NTA.

BHU PhD Admission 2024 last date is 22 September 2024* to submit the online application form for the entrance examination. Candidates are advised to submit their application form before the deadline for them to be considered eligible.
The BHU PhD Application fee is Rs 400 for SC/ST/PwD, and for other students, the application fee is Rs 800 for the BHU PhD course. Students have the option of paying the fee by debit card, credit card, or net banking.

BHU PhD Admission 2024 will soon announced by the university. Admission to the PhD programme offered by Banaras Hindu University is done based on the Research Entrance Test (RET) 2024 conducted by NTA. 22 September 2024* is the last date to apply for BHU PhD Admission 2024-25, and the eligible students will be able to register through the official website @bhu.ac.in . The university offers admission under two categories: RET 2024 and RET (Exempted) 2024. The RET 2024 method has three levels that the candidates have to go through for admission to the PhD programme. The RET (Exempted) 2024 method has a single level for admission, provided that the first two levels are fulfilled by the candidate.

Candidates are required to submit the online application form which is released by the National Testing Agency on their official website. Candidates who fail to submit the application form before the last date will not be able to appear for the entrance examination. The candidates must appear for the PhD entrance examination conducted for BHU PhD Admission 2024. This examination will help the institute to shortlist the top candidates who will be allowed admission to the research-level degree programme.

To appear for the RET 2024 examination and get BHU PhD Admission 2024 for the academic year 2024-25, students are required to register for the examination on the university's website. To fill out the form, follow the steps given below:

Visit the official website of the university.
Click on Application for RET 2024.
Read the instructions on the page and create a new account on the website.
Select PhD as the course and your subject specialization from the list.
Fill in your Personal and Academic Details.
Select your preferred Exam City and Centre.

BHU PhD Admission 2024 Important Dates

Bhu integrated phd-mphil admission 2024.

Banaras Hindu University offers admission to the integrated PhD-MPhil, and MPhil degree programmes through a Research Entrance test. For the academic year 2024, the application form for RET is expected to be released on 01 September 2024 on the official portal of BHU. Once, BHU PhD forms are out students are required to fill them out before the deadline. BHU Integrated Ph.D.-MPhil Admission 2024 The last date to apply is 22 September 2024* .

Students who are willing to opt for BHU PhD Admission 2024 along with the M.Phil degree programme must register and appear for the RET Entrance Examination which is soon going to be conducted by the university. Candidates willing to opt for BHU PhD Admission 2024 with an M.Phil programme should have completed their Masters's Degree programme in a related field with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks from a UGC-approved institute.

BHU PhD Direct Admission 2024

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) also offers direct admission to the PhD and M.Phil degree programmes which are offered by the university. However, the candidates must fulfill several eligibility criteria for them to be considered for direct admission to the research programmes. The students who are offered BHU PhD Admission 2024 in the direct mode will not be required to appear for the Research Entrance Test (RET) 2024. These students will be offered admission based on their marks in the qualifying examinations or other national-level entrance examinations for the research programmes.

A candidate who fulfills one of the following criteria may be considered for direct admission to the BHU PhD course.

Candidates who have qualified for national-level tests like NET-JRF, GATE, SLET, and NET-LS.
Candidates who are a recipient of National Doctoral Fellowship or other fellowships from government/semi-government organizations.
A candidate who is selected under the Quality Improvement Program (QIP) of AICTE.

There are several other eligibility criteria specified by BHU in the PhD Admission 2024 information Bulletin on Page 31. Interested students can check it by visiting their official website .

BHU PhD Admission 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Banaras Hindu University offers PhD Admission to only those students who fulfill certain criteria which are set by the university. Students failing to fulfill the eligibility criteria will not be considered for admission to the PhD programme offered by BHU. BHU PhD Admission 2024 requires the candidates to fulfill the following criteria.

Candidates should have completed their Master's Degree in the field in which they want to pursue the PhD programme.
Candidates should have scored a minimum aggregate of 55% marks in the qualifying examination.
Candidates should have completed their Master's Degree from a UGC-approved institute.

BHU PhD Entrance Exam 2024-25

Banaras Hindu University will be offering admission to the PhD programme considering the marks scored by the candidates in the Research Entrance Test (RET) 2024 . BHU PhD Admission will be done based on the NTA PhD entrance exam for the 2024-25 session, and the registration portal will be active soon. 22 September 2024 will be the last date to submit the BHU PhD entrance exam 2024-25. The entrance exam will be conducted from 26 October to 31 October 2024 by the National Test Agency. Candidates can visit the official website at PhD-entrance.samarth.ac.in to submit the online application form.

The RET 2024 examination will have two components for the evaluation of the performance of the students.
Test A will be based on Subject Knowledge, Assessment of Logical and Analytical Capability, and Research Methodology.
Test B will cover a Personal Interview to test aptitude for research.
The minimum qualifying mark required to score in RET is 215 marks.

Guidelines to fill up the Application Form Online

An E-mail ID for registration and for receiving all future correspondence till the admission process is over and subsequently, if admitted.
A Mobile Number to receive SMS based notifications/communications related to the online application, Admit card, Entrance Test Result, Admission Counseling etc till the admission process is over and subsequently, if admitted.

A recent passport sized colour photograph (for scanning and uploading in "jpeg" format only. File size of scanned photograph should not be more than 100KB).
Your signature using Blue/Black pen on white sheet (for scanning and uploading in "jpeg" format only. File size of scanned photograph should not be more than 100KB).

ATM-cum-Debit card

If you do not have Net Banking facility/Credit Card or ATM-cum Debit Card, you can pay the fee in cash at any branch of HDFC Bank through the Challan downloaded from the Entrance Test Portal. You will be able to download the duly filled up HDFC Bank challan from the Entrance Test Portal only whne you select the "cash payment" option while filling the application form online.

No printout of online submitted application form or proof of payment of Entrance Test fee is to be submitted to the University. However, the candidates should retain a copy of the said documents for their own record.
No document is required to be submitted along with the application form submitted online.
Original certificates issued by competent authority supporting your filled in details will be asked from you ONLY at the time of admission. If data provided in the online application is not supported by appropriate documents then your application / claim for admission shall be summarily rejected.

Fee Payment & application Submission
For subsequent applications (after the first course) process of filling up 'Applicant Details', 'Correspondence Address and Parental Details', 'uploading of Photograph and Signature' and 'Preference of Test centre' will not be required. These details will be repeated automatically/ copied for all subsequent applications after the first application. If you choose to pay after selecting all the courses of your choice, a combined payment of Entrance Test Fee for all courses you have applied for can be done.

How to complete Registration on the BHU Entrance Test Portal ( www.bhuonline.in ) for Online Application Process?

Step 1: Please click on "Apply for Admission" button given on the home page of the BHU Entrance Test Portal ( www.bhuonline.in ).

Step 2: On clicking the link, you will be directed to a new page having an Applicant Login Box. Below the login fields there is a link "Register Yourself" . Please click on this link.

Step 3: When you click the link you will be shown a Registration Form asking for various details. Fields for information which is mandatory is marked with "Red coloured bullets" and are to be essentially filled up. These fields cannot be left blank. Once you fill the details, you can click on the "Sign up" button at the bottom for completing the registration process.

NOTE: PLEASE NOTE THAT DETAILS SUBMITTED DURING REGISTRATION CANNOT BE CHANGED LATER. SO MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MAKE ERRORS IN THE INFORMATION YOU FILL IN THIS FORM.

Step 4: Activation and validation of Registration

On successful submission of registration details, you would be shown a confirmation message on the screen. You will also receive an e-mail on the e-mail ID provided by you in the Registration Form and a validation code on your registered mobile number. This email will contain an activation link. You need to click on this activation link to confirm and complete your registration process. Note: This confirmation and activation link e-mail might land up in your "Spam Folder" or "Junk Folder'. So, in case you do not find the registration confirmation e-mail in your "Inbox", please check your "Spam Folder" or "Junk Folder'. If you find the e-mail from [email protected] in your "Spam Folder" or "Junk Folder' , please report it as "Not Spam" and/or add the same to your contact list so that the subsequent e-mails from [email protected] always come in your Inbox. Always check your "Spam Folder" or "Junk Folder' for e-mails from the BHU Entrance Test Portal.
Click on this activation link received in the e-mail. You account will not be activated until you have clicked on this activation link, so, do not forget this important step.
On clicking the activation link, you will be directed to the validation page in which you are required to give the validation code sent on your registered mobile number. Enter the validation code received on your registered mobile number to complete the registration process.
On successful validation, you will be allowed login and directed to My Application Section. Select the course of your choice and start filling up the application form online.

How to select Course for which I want to apply?

Step 1: After activation and validation of your Registration on the BHU Entrance Test Portal (www.bhuonline.in), you can login into the programme. After login you will be able to see the following page with the title "Status of Submitted Applications" .

Step 2: Please select course type and course name from the drop down boxes given at the bottom. Check the eligibility and in case you are eligible for the course click the checkbox given below regarding confirmation of the terms and conditions and the eligibility to proceed further for filling up the application form by clicking "Add Course" button.

How to fill up the Application form after I have selected the Course I wish to apply for?

Step 1: After adding the course of your choice, following screen will appear showing status of submitted application. On the left panel, various other buttons such as 'Applicant Details', 'Test Centre Preference', 'Upload Photograph and Signature' etc are given. These are various sections of the form. Application Status section shows which sections of the form is complete and which is incomplete. You can click the left panel button to go to the section of the form which are incomplete.

Step 2: After you have added the first course of your choice and come to the above screen, all the four sections of the Application Form would be shown as incomplete. Click on the 'Applicant Details' button on the left panel. On clicking, following form will appear on the screen. Some of its fields would be pre-filled with the details you gave at the time of registration. Fill up other required details correctly. Note: Mandatory fields have been marked with red asterix. They are to be essentially filled up before you will be allowed to 'Save' of the form.

Step 3: After you have filled up all the required fields of the 'Application form', Click on the 'Save' button given at the bottom of the page (as shown above). Note: For details related to specific fields in the application form, eligibility condition, number of seats, fee etc please refer to the Information Bulletin available on the BHU's Entrance Test Portal ( www.bhuonline.in ).

How to fill up my preference for Test Centres?

Step 1: The BHU conducts Entrance Tests at various Centres. Details can be seen at Section ____ of the UET Information Bulletin/ Section ___ of the PET 2014 Information Bulletin available on the Entrance Test Portal (www.bhuonline.in). To fill up your preference of Test Centre, click the button 'Test Centre Preference' available on the left panel. On clicking, you will see the following screen:

Step 2: Select the Test Centre of your choice in order of your preference from the drop down menu, which will appear as follows:

Step 3: After filling up all your preferences click the 'Save and Continue' Buttom given at the bottom.

How to Upload image file (in jpeg format; size limit 100kb) of my scanned photograph and signature?

Step 1: To upload the image file of you scanned passport size colour photograph and signature, click the button 'Upload Photograph and Signature' button available on the left panel. On clicking, you will see the following screen:

(Your scanned passport photo should be within 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size, scanning resolution should be within 100 dpi & file size should be less than 100 KB.)

Right click on the scaned photo file → Open with → Microsoft Office Picture Manager
Then look at the top menus, Click Picture → Resize
Now look at the right pannel, Select the radio button Custom width x height, And write width = 138px, height = 177px. Then Click OK to complete.
If you are not able to do this properly, then you can try 'Crop' feature for the 'Picture' menu
The save the file.

Step 2: Choose the image file (jpeg format; photo should be within 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size, scanning resolution should be within 100 dpi & file size not more than 100 kb) of your scanned passport size photograph and signature and click the button 'Upload Photo' and 'Upload Signature' button given below the Box. After you have successfully uploaded the photograph and signature, you will see the following page:

Upto this stage, you have completed all stages of the Application Form. Now, click the ' Preview before Confirmation' button given at the bottom of the page. This will help you see entries made in various sections of the Application Form. In case you want to edit some details, you should do so before clicking 'I confirm the above' checkbox and clicking the 'Confirm and Submit' button because once you confirm and submit an application form, it cannot be edited further. NOTE: If you are sure that all details are correct and you do want to submit the application then click on the button "Proceed for submission and payments". When you click on the button you would be shown a page which lists the various applications which are completed. There is also a small declaration which is to be confirmed. Select the applications you want to submit and click on the declaration after reading it thoroughly. This is important.

How to pay the Entrance Test Fee to successfully submit my Application Form(s)?

Step 1: Click the 'Make Payments' Icon from the 'Dashoard'. On clicking you will see the following screen.

Step 2: You can select the applications for which you want to pay the Entrance Test Fee by clicking the checkbox given in the extreme right column with the column heading 'Select to Pay'.

Step 3: You have option of paying Entrance Test Fee online (using Netbanking, Credit Card/ Debit Card) through payment gateway available on the Portal [by clicking 'Continue for online Payment'] or to pay in cash at any branch of HDFC through challan printed from the portal [by clicking the 'Cash Payment through' HDFC Bank' button on the right side].

Step 4: On clicking 'Continue for online Payment', following screen will appear:

How do I know that my Application Form is successfully submitted?

Step 1: Go to 'My Applications' section using the dashboard. The Section will show as follows. You can see that after successful submission (only after payment of Entrance Test Fee), Application Status column shows 'Entrance Test Fee Paid' and a payment id has appeared under 'Payment Id column'. This shows that application has been successfully submitted. Also note that after this stage, the 'Delete' column is blank. This means that after this stage you will not be able to delete an application.

Step 2: After successful payment of Entrance Test Fee (either online payment or in cash through HDFC), you will get an e-mail message from from the Entrance Test Portal that your form has been successfully submitted. Take a printout of this e-mail and retain it for your own record and future reference.

Banaras Hindu University is an internationally reputed temple of learning, situated in the holy city of Varanasi. This creative and innovative university was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, in 1916, through close cooperation with great personalities like Dr Annie Besant, who viewed it as the University of India. Banaras Hindu University was established by the Parliamentary legislation-B.H.U. Act 1915.

New research scheme for PhD students introduced in BHU; here are the details

Under this scheme, phd scholars will be provided an opportunity to spend one semester (six months) in a reputed university or research laboratory in india to carry out research..

The Banaras Hindu University today launched a six month External Research Experience for PhD students which will help foster good quality research. Research scholars with a very good academic profile at undergraduate and postgraduate level, having completed their course work and quality publications to their credit will be eligible to apply for the programme.

Under this scheme, PhD scholars will be provided an opportunity to spend one semester (six months) in a reputed university or research laboratory in India to carry out research. They will also be able to utilise this opportunity for developing experimental, theoretical or professional skills. Students benefiting from the scheme will be exposed to a diverse, multicultural and competitive research atmosphere which in turn will help them excel academically and professionally.

In this programme, the visiting research scholar will receive a monthly maintenance allowance of Rs 15,000 which will be in addition to the usual fellowship.

“We want our PhD students to carry out high quality research for their thesis and prepare themselves for challenging assignments ahead. This scheme will enable them to carry out research in a diverse and multicultural environment and gain very valuable experience,” Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain said.

The scheme, implemented as part of the Institution of Eminence, BHU, is being managed by the Sponsored Research Industrial Consultancy Cell (SRICC) headed by Prof. D. S. Pandey.

Doctor of Philosophy

Disciplines

IIT Guwahati offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in various disciplines through the following Departments/Schools/Centres. In each discipline, specific specializations and/or research areas may also be advertised for a particular session of admissions.

Interdisciplinary Research

IIT Guwahati also offers PhD programme in Interdisciplinary Research areas. The students admitted for this interdisciplinary research will work under the joint supervision of faculty members across departments at IIT Guwahati on the specified research proposals.

Research proposals offered for the interdisciplinary research shall be advertised for admissions of the academic session starting from July. Desirous candidates may apply for the interdisciplinary research by choosing the option given in the online application while selecting the research areas of the respective departments.

The selections of students for the interdisciplinary research will be along with the selections of the departments mentioned against the proposals.

Joint Degree PhD Programme with IIT (BHU)

IIT Guwahati and IIT (BHU) jointly offer PhD programme. The students admitted to this Joint Degree PhD programme (JDP) will work under the joint supervision of faculty members from both IIT Guwahati and IIT (BHU) on the specified research proposals. The students admitted at IIT Guwahati primarily work with IIT Guwahati but they will also visit IIT (BHU) for meeting the academic requirements and avail research facilities at IIT (BHU). The degree will be issued jointly by both IIT Guwahati and IIT (BHU).

Research proposals offered for the JDP with IIT (BHU) shall be advertised for admissions of the academic session starting from July. Desirous candidates may apply for the JDP by choosing the option given in the online application while selecting the research areas of the respective Departments/Schools/Centres.

The selections of students for the JDP will be along with the selections of the Departments/Schools/Centres mentioned against the proposals.

Project Mode

IIT Guwahati also offers PhD programme through Project Mode . The eligibility criteria for admission into PhD programme under Project Mode is same of that of the Regular category. The students admitted under Project Mode will be funded through sponsored research projects of IIT Guwahati. The students will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator (PI)/Co-Investigator (Co-PI) of the projects for their PhD theses. The students will not do teaching assistance duties; rather they will be working for the projects.

Interested candidates may opt for the seats under project mode by choosing the advertised projects in the online application while selecting the research areas of the respective Departments/Schools/Centres. The selections of students for the project mode seats also will be along with the selections of the Departments/Schools/Centres mentioned against the proposals.

Special Scheme for CSIR/UGC-JRF Candidates

IIT Guwahati also offers a specific number of seats specially allotted to CSIR/UGC-JRF candidates for admission to PhD programme. This scheme is available in the following departments:

Depending on the availability of seats, admissions through this special scheme shall be considered four times a year. In addition to admissions in July and December, the concerned departments may conduct the admissions in October and in April. CSIR/UGC-JRF qualified candidates can apply for this special scheme to pursue PhD programme. Selected candidates will be admitted under Regular Category for availing UGC/CSIR Fellowship. These candidates will not be considered for converting to Institute Assistantship at any point of time.

Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme

IIT Guwahati also offers Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT (Phase-II). Along with regular admissions, a specific number of candidates will be selected under this scheme in the following departments:

ISE graduate student and faculty member.

The doctoral program provides advanced study and training to prepare students to be research scholars with expertise in operations research, human factors/ergonomics or production systems & manufacturing.

Admissions Requirements

A baccalaureate degree in engineering or a related technical field, such as math, physics, behavioral sciences or health sciences. Appropriate academic background varies by graduate specialization.
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for all undergraduate work undertaken during the last two years of the applicant's studies.
GRE scores are optional for PhD program admissions.
We will also consider demonstrated practical engineering experience and demonstrated leadership skills
Earned MS degree or demonstrated research experience is preferred for admission to the PhD Program

In addition to the above requirements, proficiency is required in mathematics through the level of multivariate calculus, probability and statistics considered from a calculus point of view, and computer programming. Students whose backgrounds have not adequately prepared them to enter the graduate curriculum directly may be asked to take appropriate undergraduate courses. Credit for these courses will not be applied toward the minimum number of hours required for the MS/ME degrees. In exceptional cases, the department may admit an applicant who does not meet all these requirements; in such cases, the department will set special performance criteria for continuing in the program.

Application Fee

A non-refundable application fee of $85 must be submitted for each graduate application before it will be reviewed. You can pay the application fee in your Application Status Portal via credit card. The link to pay your application fee will appear shortly after you submit your application. If you have an issue with your application fee, please contact [email protected] .

We do not offer application fee waivers for our programs. Only US Military/Veterans and their spouses and participants in special programs such as Americorps, McNair Scholars, EOP, HEOP, SEEK, or Project 1000 are eligible for an application fee waiver. Program participants must also be a US citizen or permanent resident. There are no exceptions. If you are eligible and requesting a waiver, please contact [email protected] with documentation of your military service or program participation.

Materials Checklist

Personal statement.

Your application package must include a brief statement of purpose describing your background and your academic and career goals. The Personal Statement can be typed into the space provided on the application or uploaded electronically to the application.

Transcripts

Unofficial copies of transcripts are to be uploaded to your online application. Official transcripts are not required at the time the application is submitted. If an applicant is accepted and decides to attend our program, official transcripts will be requested at that time.

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation are required for PhD program applicants. While we will accept letters from professional sources, we strongly prefer letters from professors who are acquainted with your academic interests, achievements and abilities.

Requests for letters of recommendation will be emailed to your recommenders upon submitting your application form. Recommenders can submit their recommendations online. Once submitted, they are automatically uploaded to your online application.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

GRE scores are optional for the PhD program admissions. Please note: the GRE may be required for some scholarship/fellowships.

English Language Proficiency

International applicants are required to provide proof of English proficiency. The exam results must be dated within two years from your proposed date of admission and remain valid upon entering the term for which you applied. The University at Buffalo has a minimum TOEFL score requirement of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based). On IELTS, UB requires an overall score of 6.5.

Information and arrangements to take the GRE and TOEFL exams can be made by contacting the Educational Testing Service (ETS) . It is strongly recommended to make test arrangements early in the year so sufficient time can be allowed for the results to be reported before our application deadline.

International Student Financial Form

All international applicants must submit a completed financial form. Answer all questions thoroughly. An I-20 cannot be issued without this form and supporting documentation showing necessary funds for each year of intended study (two years for a master's program; five years for a PhD program). Financial Aid

If you are interested in financial aid in the form of a teaching assistantship or research assistantship, please check the appropriate box on your application form.
