Hit SOS when in distress: Here's how to use the Disha app

Hyderabad: In an attempt to raise awareness about the Disha app, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy will take part in an event to ensure that every woman in the state downloads the application. The event is scheduled to take place at Gollapudi in Vijayawada on 29 June as part of an extensive campaign to prompt citizens to download the app.

The state government passed the Disha Bill to provide better security and protection to citizens, mainly women. In addition, the government introduced the Disha app to prevent and report instances of harassment, sexual harassment, and other crimes against women. The Gollapudi event aims to make every citizen download the app and also educate them on the use of the application. Meanwhile, various government departments and the AP police are organizing awareness programs on the app's features and usage.

Jagan explained how to use the app, "If a user presses the SOS button, a distress call goes to the Disha special command control room. Ten seconds of audio and video are recorded for evidence by the smartphone and the user will receive a call from the police immediately. If the user does not answer the call, the control room then sends the message to the emergency response patrol which is dispatched to the distressed users' location within minutes."

Features of the Disha app

Some of the salient features of this application include an SOS button that sends out an alert to the Disha command control centre, immediately notifies the police close to the location, and simultaneously notifies registered emergency contacts as well. A total of five numbers can be registered as emergency contacts.

A new feature called "Track My Travel" was incorporated in the application as an added measure for safety and supervision during travel. Emergency dial assistance numbers, 100 and 112, are also included in the application.

An option allows users to receive the contact information of police officers from the nearest police station and also the contact information of hospitals, maternity centers, trauma care centers, blood banks, and pharmacies.

So far, 17,65,000 citizens have downloaded the Disha app and 1,68,483 SOS requests have been sent out and addressed. A total 220 FIRs have been registered and 1,297 actionable cases have been taken on by the AP police.

The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple store.

Disha special officer Deepika Patil said, "Once it is downloaded, the app requests for certain permissions. This is the data that we ought to receive when someone presses the SOS button. To clear another doubt, we do not get access to any personal information of the user until she presses the SOS button, including the location."

దిశ యాప్ ప్రయోజనాలు, ఎలా పనిచేస్తుంది( Disha App Uses, How it works)

యువతులు, మహిళలు ఆపదనలో ఉన్నప్పుడు పోలీసులతో పాటు ఐదుగురు కుటుంబసభ్యులు లేదా స్నేహితులకు తక్షణం సమాచారం చేరవేసే ఏర్పాటు ఉంటుంది. ప్రయాణ సమయంలో ట్రాక్ మై ట్రావెల్(Track my Travel)ఆప్షన్ ఉంటుంది. చేరాల్సిన గమ్యస్థానాన్ని నమోదు చేస్తే అనుక్షణం ట్రాకింగ్ చేస్తుంది. వాహనం దారి తప్పితే ఆ సమాచారం వెంటనే దిశ కమాండ్ కంట్రోల్ రూమ్‌తో పాటు బంధు మిత్రులకు చేరవేస్తుంది. దిశ యాప్‌లో 100, 112 వంటి అత్యవసర నెంబర్లతో పాటు పోలీస్ స్టేషన్లు, ఆసుపత్రులు, మెటర్నిటీ సెంటర్లు, బ్లడ్ బ్యాంకులు, ట్రామా కేర్ సెంటర్లు, మెడికల్ షాపుల వివరాలుంటాయి. కమాండ్ కంట్రోల్ నుంచి పుష్ బటన్ ఆప్షన్ ద్వారా పోలీసులు ఒకే సమయంలో అందరికీ సలహాలు, సూచనలు ఇస్తారు. విపత్కర పరిస్థితుల్లో సమయం లేకపోతే ఫోన్‌ను గట్టిగా అటూ ఇటూ ఊపితే చాలు..పోలీసులకు సందేశం చేరిపోతుంది. అప్రమత్తమైన పోలీసులు కాల్ బ్యాక్ చేస్తారు. ఫోన్‌కు స్పందించకపోతే పోలీసు వాహనంలో ఉన్న మొబైల్ డేటా టెర్మినల్ సహాయంతో జీపీఎస్ ట్రాకింగ్(GPS Tracking)ద్వారా బాదితులు ఉన్న లొకేషన్‌కు పోలీసులు చేరుకుంటారు.

ఆండ్రాయిడ్, ఐఓఎస్ ఫోన్లలో డౌన్‌లోడ్ చేసుకోవచ్చు. డౌన్‌లోడ్ పూర్తయ్యాక మొబైల్ నెంబర్ ఎంటర్ చేస్తే ఓటీపీ వస్తుంది. ఓటీపీ ఎంటర్ చేసి..పేరు, మొబైల్ నెంబర్, అడ్రస్, ప్రత్యామ్నాయ నెంబర్, అత్యవసర సమయంలో సంప్రదించాల్సిన కాంటాక్ట్ నెంబర్లు వంటి వివరాల్ని నమోదు చేయాలి. ఆపదలో ఉన్నప్పుడు దిశ యాప్‌లో( Disha App )ఉన్న ఎస్ఓఎస్ బటన్ నొక్కితే ఫోన్ నెంబర్, చిరునామా, లొకేషన్‌తో సహా వాయిస్ పది సెకన్లు రికార్డు చేసి దిశ కమాండ్ కంట్రోల్ రూమ్‌కు పంపేలా ఏర్పాటుంది.

DIKSHA - National Teachers Platform For School Education

DIKSHA stands for Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing. It is a National Teacher Platform which is currently being used by teachers and students across the nation to provide school education through distance mode.

Amidst the disruption of schooling due to COVID-19, DIKSHA makes it possible for all states and Union Territories to enable learning and education at home through innovative state programs. DIKSHA is leapfrogging the use of technology for the benefit of teachers and learners across India.

Latest on Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing – DIKSHA Platform

• In February 2021, the Indian government’s edtech app DIKSHA hit 10 million installs. DIKSHA is 100% free to use, and owned and operated by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

• NTP is a minimal and generalised technology platform built using Open Standards and Application Program Interfaces (APIs) and will host Open Educational Resources (OER). It will also have tools and interfaces for the creation and consumption of teaching and learning content. As a shared infrastructure the platform will avoid duplication of effort and save costs.
• It will cater to the needs of teachers including the development of attitude, skill and knowledge. The platform will continuously develop and evolve in an iterative manner based on user needs and stakeholder feedback.
• NTP will cater to teachers from all stages of school education including pre-primary, primary, upper primary, secondary and senior secondary.
• DIKSHA is available for the use of all states and UTs of India. Currently, it supports 18+ languages and the various curriculum of NCERT, CBSE and SCERTs across India.

Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing – Related News

The Government of India has planned to start the next academic year virtually since many schools have been shut early March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Steps taken –

• The Centre plans to restart classes in the distance mode, with teaching via dedicated TV and radio channels in English and Hindi such as e-pathshala and Shiksha Vani respectively.
• Swayam Prabha, an existing program, is a group of 32 DTH channels devoted to telecasting high-quality educational programmes on 24X7 basis using the GSAT-15 satellite.
• If States are willing to produce the content in local languages, the Centre can give them 2-3 hours on the channel. Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA) mobile app has been offered to States as a platform to provide content in local languages.
• NIOS has been asked to create a structured programme for schools class-wise. This is being done along with the NCERT using their syllabus. The material will be ready for use by schools following the NIOS or the CBSE syllabus.

3 Lakh download disha app in a day

VIJAYAWADA: NTR district administration and police on Friday conducted Disha App awareness and registration drives across the district. In order to ensure all the women and college going students in the NTR district install the Disha SOS mobile app and alert police during emergencies, NTR district police and district administration conducted a public awareness and registration drive across the district on Friday. Nearly three lakh persons downloaded the app and around two lakh registrations were completed during the drive.

Collector S Dilli Rao and Commissioner of Police Kanthi Rana Tata inaugurated the campaign and appealed to women and college students to download the Disha app. “Not just women, men can also download the app and use it if they face any problem like a medical emergency,” the Collector said. Addressing mediapersons on the occasion, the officials said that the app has one of the fastest and best in class response mechanisms. After the inauguration, police teams have visited various educational institutions, government and private offices, factories, shopping malls, public places and created awareness on Disha App.

“There is a need for women to install Disha SOS app. The app even works without active internet connection. In a record time of less than five minutes, police are responding to SOS calls and reaching the victim, and addressing their problem,” he said.

Kanti Rana Tata said Disha App and Disha Act were the brainchild of Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and more than 1,000 cases of crimes against women have been registered across the State based on the complaints received through the app. Rana said, “the application does not have permissions to track or monitor the activities of the users. Only the user’s location will be detected by the control room staff when he/she clicks the SOS option.

How to Download Disha App

Open Google Play Store on any Android-based mobile. Type Disha SOS in the search bar. Download the application created by Andhra Pradesh Police Communication wing. Install the application and register with a valid mobile number. Register by submitting basic details like Name, age, sex and address

How to use Disha SOS app

By shaking the phone after opening the app three to five times, GPS in the mobile will be activated automatically and nearby police will be alerted in case of emergencies with the help of a push-button messaging system Click on SOS to call Dial 100 or other helplines where the user will be directed to the Central Call Centre from where the details will be shared to the nearest police station or police on duty.

Disha contains tracking and safety features for every user which helps police to track the user if she alerts using the App during any emergency situation. This APP also gives you phone numbers that you can dial to get emergency help and support.

When in danger, app users can either push an SOS button on the app or shake the phone thrice if the ‘hand gesture’ feature is enabled, to send an SOS request. The SOS request sends the user’s location

In less than five minutes, police personnel equipped with GPS and mobile data tracker and body-worn cameras will reach the spot and rescue the user. DISHA app also integrated with needful information like nearby safety places, nearby police stations, nearby hospitals and useful contacts.
